My Only Problem with SasuHina

This isn’t really supposed to be a hate post, but I wanted to talk about a problem that I see with the SasuHina ship that I haven’t heard people mention.

Hinata is not forward enough to enter a relationship with Sasuke.

I don’t feel like doing a full character analysis, so the short of it is that Sasuke isn’t the type to be the assertive one in a relationship. No, he isn’t meek or submissive, he isn’t even avoidant, but he doesn’t go out of his way to start relationships. Naruto starts their rivalry, Sakura is always the one to talk first, Sai offers friendship first, etc. The only exceptions I can think of are when he asks Naruto what advice Sakura gave him on tree-walking, when he said Sakura was the best at genjutsu on their team, and when he gathers Team Hebi. What do all of these have in common? Sasuke gained something from starting all of these interactions. Asking Naruto for the advice he got would help him perfect his chakra control and learn how to walk up the tree, complimenting Sakura would boost her confidence enough to keep her from dropping out of the chunin exams or weighing their team down, and forming Team Hebi was necessary for finding Itachi.

I don’t mean that Sasuke is a selfish or manipulative asshole, he’s just an introvert. He knows about the importance of relationships (see Team Hebi) and he shows he cares through acts of service, but it’s only after those relationships are formed. And 9/10 he isn’t the one to form them. Unless his goal revolves around a romantic relationship with someone (which I find hard to believe in any universe), he isn’t gonna start one.

Of course this wouldn’t make the entire ship impossible to believe, but it is why I think the fanwork of Hinata and Sasuke coming together is often ooc. Hinata would have to be the one to make the first move and waiting around for Sasuke would be a waste of time.

By the way, I’m focusing on Hinata changing because Sasuke’s lack of assertion in forming relationships stems from being an introvert (as I’ve already said). Being an introvert isn’t a problem to be solved or character flaw to overcome. Hinata’s lack of assertion in relationships in general stems from her lack of confidence from her being the shamed heiress of the Hyuga clan, which is a character flaw (one that she was actually overcame in Shippuden until the sequels reverted her).
