I think the reason why Naruto fans get so passionate and upset about the series is because of how real it can be. Naruto isn’t about paragon heroes outdoing dastardly villains. It’s about human beings fighting tooth and nail to survive in a world surrounded by death. It’s about broken systems made and perpetuated by broken people.
The Hyuga clan isn’t just antagonistic or pretentious, they practice slavery.
The Uchiha clan weren’t just killed by some raging psychopath, they were systematically massacred.
Itachi isn’t just cruel to Sasuke because he’s a bad brother, he’s cruel because he’d been told time and time again that you can only survive by being cruel and he wants nothing more than for Sasuke to survive.
Nagato isn’t trying to take over the world just for the sake of power, he’s trying to take over the world because it beat him down to the point of believing that the only chance at peace there is is the world being forced into compliance through fear.
Iruka isn’t hard on Naruto just because he’s a strict teacher, he’s hard on Naruto because he knows from experience how unforgiving the world is towards orphans.
Kakashi isn’t just some silly and slightly lazy teacher, he’s a contract killer still grieving his loved ones and struggling to do better without knowing how he’s supposed to.
Sakura isn’t just a fangirl, she’s a normal girl in a very dangerous and abnormal world constantly being made to choose between what she’s supposed to do and what she feels.
Sasuke isn’t just some edgelord, he’s a survivor who lost everything then gets repeatedly told that he has to choose between keeping what he’s gained and doing better than his brother.
Naruto isn’t just trying to be the best Hokage there ever was, he’s trying to prove his worth to a society that abandoned him just for existing and, in a way, confirm his worth to himself.
The Naruto story is about humans trying to force themselves into the role of weapons because that’s what they were told they had to be. It’s a story where everyone is a perpetrator but no one is trying to do wrong. It’s a story where everyone is a victim but no one is a perfect victim.
The world and the characters aren’t simple and trying to simplify them only takes away from them. So of course we get passionate about showing off all the reasons why they shouldn’t be simplified and all of the ways they’re complicated. Of course we get upset when we see others simplifying them or selling certain aspects of their characters short. Of course we get upset when the series itself simplifies them. Of course we get upset when the series chooses to abandon them. Because it not only feels like the characters are giving up, it feels like the series is betraying anyone who chose to get invested in its complexities.

there was a note at the door, it was tied around some wildflowers. It read in scribbly barely coherent letters
Yur qite welcoom for the sheny  stooff and the flowers here have some moore that I found on my walkalso also how  did I wright  thes  I have nu hands
Tumblr media
A happy, gross growl-squeal left the boy, taking the flowers and the note that upon a quick glance he folded around the flowers.  Why try to decipher a note he can’t read, right?

*About Sasuke*
Sakura: I can fix him
Naruto: I love him no matter how many men, women, and children he’s killed
Kakashi: I gave up on trying to fix him
Sai: “I can fix him” Okay Bob the Builder, relax
Ino: “I can fix him” You can’t even fix your sleep schedule bestie
Itachi: I can fix him by making him worse
Orochimaru: “I can fix him” That’s cute. I can break him. I can leave him a shell of who he once was.
Suigetsu: I can fix him, but whatever he’s got going on is much more amusing.
Karin: “I can fix him” Yeah? Well I can accept him as he is. You don’t like the murder? Grow up. The atrocities are a part of him and I’ve decided that they’re funny.
Juugo: What’s there to fix?
Obito: I can stick around and see how much he can fuck up. It’s kind of like watching a train wreck.

Hashirama: Well this is an adventure!
Tobirama, littered with bruises and solidly ignoring his brother: …
Madara, ripping a kunai out of his arm and barely resisting the urge to stab his friend with it: …
Izuna, with a bleeding eye and holding his side: …
Izuna: No, this is an ambush during a diplomatic mission, Senju! We hate you!

Kakashi: Because I wanted you to ruin your life in order to kill my former teammate.

Ranking the Akatsuki Based on How Well Liked They Are in the Organization
1 Kisame Hoshigaki - He’s surprisingly friendly for a former Blood Mist Village friend killer. He's honest, even if he follows strict “don’t ask, don’t tell” and “need to know basis” rules, and he seems be both loyal to the organization and it’s members. He’s agreeable, a good listener, and easy to get along with.
2 Konan - She doesn’t interact with the Akatsuki’s members very often, especially outside of missions. Some members regard her as boring, but she’s respectful enough, not antagonistic, and will go out of her way for the members if it benefits the organization. It’s a low bar for normal people, but the Akatsuki aren’t normal.
3 Pein - He’s respected for his strength, drive, and ability to pull something like the Akatsuki off in the first place. The members have an ongoing debate of whether his attempting his goals is courage or arrogance. He has a bad habit of going on philosophical tangents. Sometimes he says things during meetings and no one can tell if he’s teasing them or… Like Konan, no one knows much about him outside of that because he rarely interacts with them.
4 Itachi Uchiha - He usually keeps to himself but occasionally gets really nosy. He thinks he’s subtle. He isn’t. He doesn’t act like someone who would kill their clan and he refuses to talk to anyone about it. He’s sick and he’s tired all of the time, no one has agreed on what he’s like outside of that. Since he’s so unreadable, many members don’t know whether or not he’s trustworthy. Average brought down by Deidara.
5 Zetsu - Everyone is uncomfortable with how he insists on keeping tabs on them. Outside of that, opinions are mixed. Black Zetsu is rude but he makes sure everyone gets their work done on schedule. White Zetsu is an idiot but is the closest thing to good company after Kisame. Hidan and Kisame gave them the nicknames Dokuzetsu and Jozetsu and they just kind of stuck. Everyone has chosen to ignore the cannibalism. Pein and Konan don’t seem concerned, so he’s probably safe, right?
6 Kakuzu - He’s aggressive and short tempered, but he won’t bother anyone unless they’re late on work or go over budget, for the most part. He’s so stingy that most of the Akatsuki prefer paying out of pocket over fighting him about “unnecessary mission expenses” like food or shelter. Most members just ignore him and he ignores them right back.
7 Deidara - He’s good at his job, so everyone understands why he’s there, but he’s also regarded as loud, overconfident, dramatic, short-tempered, only interested in art, and immature. Him being the youngest member of the Akatsuki, even if it is only by three years, doesn’t help the immature allegations. Most members were over him by week 2.
8 Sasori - He’s critical and condescending. He is ready and willing to attack anyone who makes him wait. He is unapologetically nosy and doesn’t even try to hide it like Itachi. If you don’t tell him what he wants to know, he’ll just gather intel on you behind your back. If it weren’t for the skill and knowledge he’s accrued, no one would like him.
9 Hidan - He’s loud, vulgar, and will take any chance to preach about his religion. He has been kicked out of meetings on more than one occasion. If he gets too bored, on missions or not, he will start picking fights. He complains all of the time, even about things he doesn’t actually care about. He’s made it abundantly clear that not only is he neither loyal to the organization nor its members, he’s expressed that he hates both.

I don’t really want to become known as a “Tobirama dick-rider” or whatever other insult is being used to refer to his fans, but why are people acting like he created shinobi and the shinobi system? Shinobi have been around since Ashura and Indra. Tobirama was one of those child soldiers sent off to war.
Tobirama helped create the village and many of their systems (academy, chunin promotion exam, anbu, police force, etc.) and many of those are questionable, but all of those were created with the intent of doing good. I actually think that the systems he made are accurately flawed for the creator being someone who grew up in war and doesn’t really know what peace looks like or could be. Especially since he’s meant to be the more pragmatic/realistic Hokage.
If everyone’s just blaming him for all of the village’s flaws, then I’m just gonna say that he wasn’t the only one to build the village. It would be pretty stupid if Tobirama was the only one to get his ideas incorporated and all of his ideas were used with no one having the power to overrule them. At a minimum, Hashirama and Madara were also there and it’s quite the stretch to say that Tobirama is steamrolling either of them.
Also, say what you want about it, but the village worked up until other shinobi villages were made. The clans of the Land of Fire were fighting for centuries up until the alliance and subsequent village was built. Konoha is FAR from perfect (or even good if I’m being honest), but the goals of ending the warring states era and raising the age minimum of soldiers to lower the rate of child death were accomplished. If you ask me, the village’s biggest problems are more because of there being room to take advantage of the system and none of the future leaders pushing for much progress, not the village itself being a fundamentally flawed idea.

Naruto, texting: The next booth over is selling wooden swords. Does our son need a sword?
Neji: No. Absolutely not.
Naruto: It says “Message Failed” I’m getting him a sword
Neji: It does not say message failed. Do not get him a sword.
