I think wukong was trying to get the crew to quit the 2nd journey.

Ok, hear me out so at the end of season two he doesn't want them to come because "they have this little thing called mortality" they insist and he 'accepts' and then goes on to say "but really really dangerous".

Then start an episode of season 3 when the ship falls into the sea and is filling with water he says "a little water never hurt anyone-oh right mortality".

These two scenes would have happened within a few hours of each other there is no way he forgot they were mortal or not realized this was a dangerous situation. He knows water like this is not good for mortals. Out of every immortal Chinese god I know of, he would know that this is unsafe. For one he was born mortal, two he went with a mortal monk on a 15-year-long journey through dangerous territory, three he lives with normal mortal monkeys and has done basically his whole life and four he has MK as a mortal human student who he has yet to even injure despite sparring with him multiply time.

Even if he wasn't with mortal he wouldn't comfortable in this situation because water enhibits his movement because he is made of stone and make him valible which we all know he hates.

In this frame, we see wukong's real reaction to the water and he looks quite annoyed. Well, that or really deep in though maybe. Either way, he is not enjoying the water like we see when he 'forgets' that everyone is mortal and in danger.

now you now be asking when was the change from to achelly accepting the others on the trip?

It isn't until the scene above that Wukong even considers that he may need help on this. It isn't until he is struck and staring down a dragon that relieses how powerless he is at the moment.

Here you can see that he relieses that his reputation is not going to help him get out of simulations like he thought originally. People aren't not going to fight him because he is the great sage because they know that he doesn't have his powers.

And then may steps up and gets Ao Gaun to back off. she helps sun Wukong and he is astounded by it. This is when he understands that these mortals are capable and he doesn't have to worry so much about them dying. He accepts that they can come on the journey and even trust Mei to break them out and get the map. Because he knows that they are going to be ok and are actually helping him as opposed to being another thing to look out for (like with Tripitaka). He can focus more on regaining his powers for the fight with the lady bone demon and leave the less dangerous stuff to them. Which is what he does.
