listen I expected literally Nothing from the D&D movie okay, like I can't make it clear enough that I expected the most soulless money grab with a good cgi budget imaginable, I went in having already gone through every stage of grief and landed on acceptance and LISTEN
I fucking CRIED during this dumb RPG movie. it wasn't just "not terrible" it was objectively good with a clever plot and compelling characters and sincere emotional beats. this movie loves D&D so fucking much and it NAILS the "a bunch of goobers try to be cool and accidentally discover The Power Of Friendship And Also Great Violence" classic D&D party vibe. their barbarian's last name is fucking Kilgore and my entire family cried in the theater.
And boy do I have words for this lil bean. While he's not my favorite ( still love him) I can really appreciate him as a character who subverts expectations. We have this joking, silly goblin name Gricko, pronounces things wrong and at first glance seems like an idiot. And then boom, he's a father to an Owlbear, a good and responsible one at that too, and then suddenly throughout the campaign you see him be a moral compass to the group, especially Gideon and Kremy, and suddenly he's supporting and protecting Torbeck like a father, talking about politics and having good ideas. In the beginning of the campaign you almost just see him as the joke to contrast Frosts seriousness, and while in some ways thats true you see how Gricko can also provide stimulating conversation. Congratulations Mikey, you introduced a seemingly shallow character and then gave him more layers than Shrek's onion.
NPC Encounter: Merry Coriander, a kind and welcoming halfling who runs her village’s mathom-house. She considers it her calling in life to make sure that magic items are used and appreciated by the people who own them. Merry will encourage your party to sort through their Bags of Holding, consider whether each item is useful to you, and discard the ones that are not. For each item you discard, you may add +1 to the effect of an item you keep.
Saw your selenite (monk?) Tav and shadowheart comics. Instant follow.
Browsed through your blog and saw you also play DND and DM ??
-bows down to your greatness-
Out of curiosity how long have you been DMing ?? And do you DM homebrew or do you have a preferred world/setting ?
!!!! I have been DMing for 6 going 7 years!!,
1 year in Faerun (as a player)
2 years in potterverse (as a DM) I homebrewed the world for DnD including 5e compatible Harry Potter Spells, Fantastic Beasts statblocks, currencies, potion brewing mechanics, and so much more. We had to leave after JKR went krazy
And finally
3 (going 4) years in our homebrewed world of Wrosdour!!
Here is the map I made and character portraits I painted as gifts for my players putting up with my BS
recently got to give bg3 a try n kinda just used it as an excuse to work on a design ive been struggling with. reminds me a lot of making murder lizards in skyrim as a middle schooler it's fun :3
Dnd campaign poster babey!!! God I adore this campaign.
Characters from left to right:
Enodia, hexblood circle of stars druid, creepy lady. At one point she flirted with someone by talking about eating them. She also fully popped off her nail and gave it to a party member as a gift. Surprisingly, she also has mom energy.
Doc, harengon artillerist artificer and my character. His experiments keep exploding, except for when he wants them to. He has the energy of a sopping wet cat. Also seems to not like magic at all, for some reason
Il, reborn fighter/ranger. Big piece of armour. We are pretty sure there is nothing beneath that armour. He keeps saying ominous shit like “the taste of blood never leaves you” much to Doc’s dismay. We are also pretty sure he’s over hundreds of years old
Airuna, air genasi path of the storm barbarian. Pretty and gentle lady. Has been travelling with Enodia, they seem to have a mother daughter relationship. She’s very gentle for a barbarian
Vilkas, shadarkai bladesinger wizard. Is a very eccentric wizard who seems to have powerful ambitions, however he almost lost a fight with a regular fish. Also wanted to keep dreadfire (the fantasy equivalent to a nuke) when presented with it. We had to stop him
And lastly, up top, “friend” a NPC we were introduced to pretty quickly, who somehow has been able to follow us, and also present us with the horrors. They are creepy and cool as shit
