I never moved on from pib's final pickpocket on the Baba Yaga and saying "I would like to try to steal back everything she took from us" btw. It's the perfect capstone on a running joke that underlined the character archetype. It's loving and heartfelt and simple and cheeky. It makes no apologies about being a trickster move. Real in what it means to accomplish and unreal in what it makes true about the world.

And then he's honest with her about it. And she remarks that it's just like the two of them, for him to steal and her to be stolen from. That they're so alike, that they transcend this corruption and unmaking and soon to be remaking. They're just so archetypal - a witch and a black cat

So my friend @charminglyantiquated shared a story-game with me that she's working on for @elsewhereuniversity and I became kiiinnnddadaa obsessed so for Christmas I had to make a little surprise for her about for the next letter I sent her.

Without giving spoilers, the narrative features an origami swan with writing on the back, and a special ring and I was like "I CAN DO SOMETHING WITH THAT".

So I did. Pls enjoy my beautiful origami that's hiding SECRETS.

Pointing at the ring is a back and forth between different handwritings "Why a ring?", "Who's is it?", "no idea", "do we need to know?". The last writting at the bottom of the paper is in all caps and reads "These secrets are by season sealed, Only by winter's bite revealed." and had written comments point it it reading "riddle from Canyon, no idea where they got it" and "this is important??" The blue writing was written with a temperature-sensitive ink, which was revealed by making it cold - in this case, she stuck it in the freezer, which is exactly what I did when I tested the ink on the paper. The poem is about the central problem of the narrative :)

BEHOLD. JACK DESIGNS APLENTY TO MATCH WITH THESE SAMMY DESIGNS. I had so much fun designing and drawing these guys, as I wanted to make Jacks that specifically complimented their Sammys. LONG WINDED DESIGN NOTES UNDER THE CUT

Pair 1:

i knew that i wanted to make at least one absurdly tall Jack and he was a perfect candidate

matching music tie and bowtie!!!

i love height difference sam and jacks and jack deserves to be the taller one sometimes

this Jack is probably Dominican. gotta get that latino rep in here lets gooo 💪😎 (lighthearted)

their shirts are the same shade of white which you'll see again in the third pair

iirc i wanted to give tribute to TIOL so I made this Jack orange, though I kept it leaning yellow to better compliment Sammy's blond tips

i think this Jack is the prettiest

Pair 2:

i originally wasn't planning on giving Jack dyed hair but I thought it would be cute for both of them to have it dyed since this Sammy has bleached hair like his VA. I tried to keep it subtle since he already had so much color on him that I didn't want it to look overcrowded

I love red/pink Jacks but instead of a sweater vest I gave him a normal vest since I feel like I don't see that a lot on Jacks?

i tried to lean into more mischievous vibes with him because I think more Jacks deserve to be pranksters, as a treat

he also looks chill to counterbalance a pretty high strung looking Sammy

this Jack is very very loosely inspired by someone I know irl. not really appearance wise, just through vibes

i don't think these two are dating but they are inseparable as per usual

Pair 3:

the glasses on Jack were a last minute addition because i KEEP ON FORGETTING TO GIVE CHARACTERS GLASSES

the green sweater and hat match his Sammy's green eyes (not pictured here). i like to think he does this on purpose

they both have gray hair because i think its so pretty

i think this Jack is probably the cutest

this pair is comprised primarily of soft shapes

Jack's hair is actually inspired by someone i used to know!

Misc. Notes:

i need to give more characters glasses

i forgot facial hair existed oops

i didn't set out on designing them with the intention of making the first pair both Black and the second pair both Asian, but I do think it adds something to how they operate as a pair. you gotta stick together, y'know?

in the initial sketching process i wasn't planning on drawing Sammy along with the Jacks but i realized very quickly i couldnt design them without their Sam there. they are a set! do not separate!!

this does mean that there's a scrapped Jack design sitting in that file...alone....Sammyless.... very sad. I gotta get that man a Sammy

Was icarus's fall so terrible after all? He would've died with a smile on his face, the sun all beautiful on him, setting him ablaze. Golden boy alight in his fall, golden are our kisses which set me ablaze and my wings burn in all their glory as you sweep my ashes 'neath the rug. The wax stuck to my lashes doesn't seem to scald your skin as much as I'd hoped and it seems fair to give it all up, for just a fleeting moment of your rays spreading across my skin, painting my lips, as if all the gold would hide the red underneath. Icarus must've surely died with a smile on his face, for I know I did in your smoldering embrace.

A drawing of Terumis ghost form. Always found it interesting how he has a bit of a digital pattern, while looking like a single cell organism. Makes sense considering he is kind of a techno organism. Kinda wish Blazblue would have went deeper into the gods of the blazblue world. Based of Amaterasu they are like a technological, eldritch entities, with usually no soul…

Maybe I just read too much Lovecraft lately. Would love a cosmic horror story with the boundry and it‘s inhabitants.
