The Apocalypse was over and Five Hargreaves did what he did best, drink and cope. The first few weeks of freedom he tried things he had missed early on in his childhood. It started when Viktor took him shopping for a new, more appropriate wardrobe, that someone who looked his age would wear. Then he would often visit the park just to admire the beauty of places that were once a baron landscape. And sometimes he just spent his time reading catching up on what he missed in the last few years.
But old habits die hard when you spend 54 years alone and the next 2 weeks desperate to save yourself and save your family. Maybe Klaus was right when he called the apocalypse his drug because, for a while, it was all he’d ever know.
Five hadn’t slept well in a long time and despite his newfound freedom without the looming feeling of impending doom. He would find himself waking up at 4 am to check his window and just to see if everything was real.
The Academy had been empty for a bit, the first week his family had stayed back to collect themselves, celebrate, and appreciate one another but slowly their lives fell back into place. Allison went back to Claire wanting to get back her career and her daughter back. Luther wanted to find his independence and took a small helping from his inheritance to live on his own. Diego and Lila had also moved out in hopes of continuing to grow their relationship and perhaps find happiness in normalcy. Viktor, now confident in himself wanting to explore the world more began traveling and meeting new people. To Five it felt like everyone had moved on, except him. He had been the one to jump through time, and now he felt like he was stuck in it.
However this morning, his silent coffee and breakfast time was interrupted but a surprisingly sober Klaus barging through the door with a girl no taller than 5’3 who looked as if she had been dragged through the mud and a forest in his arms.
“I didn’t know where to bring her she ran into me frantic and couldn’t speak much,”
“There wasn’t anyone chasing her so I have no idea where she came from and she’s in pretty bad shape.”
Klaus looked panicked, he felt bad for the beat-up girl in his arms but what could he do besides bring her to the place he knew could help her best.
Grace and Pogo immediately took action, bringing the girl into the spare room to care for her wounds.
“What makes you think you can just bring random people in here? She could be dangerous?”
Five arched his eyebrow at Klaus’s behavior. He wasn’t a trusting man but he trusted his brother’s intuition and the girl genuinely looked like she needed help.
“I couldn’t just leave her on the road. I’m not a bad person Five. There’s something different about her I swear.”
Five looked distrustful at what his brother was saying.
“Well, we’ll just have to see when she wakes up.”
The two went back to doing their own things in the Academy waiting for you to wake up.
————————-3 days later————————
The sun shone brightly in the room you stayed at. Your eyes slowly opened, blinking harshly to adjust to the shining light. You had no idea where you were, this new place was uncomfortable and unfamiliar. Warm wood furniture decorated the walls, and the mattress you slept on seemed more comfy, soft, and warmer than your old hay-filled cot. Unsurprisingly your wounds ached but were clean nevertheless. You jumped when the door swung open to reveal a monkey? no an ape? in a suit. "Ah you're finally awake, Ill let the others know"
"I am Pogo by the way, please rest, we don't want your stitches reopening." Maybe it was the exhaustion catching up to you, but you listened to his words and laid back, staring at the large high ceilings waiting to see if whoever brought you here would be your like your old doctors. Back downstairs Pogo noticed Five pacing around in the living room. "Any troubles worrying you?" "Yes that girl, I can't find any information about her, she had no ID, no name card, I even looked around the area trying to track back where she came from, and nothing." Five glanced around, more cautious of his surroundings
"What if the commission sent her?" "This is not good, not good at all"
And with a quick turn, he teleported to the room of which his unwelcome guest occupied. A flash of blue interrupted your daydreams when a boy about your age in a green flannel, cargo pants, with slightly long side parted hair entered your space. Besides appearing out of nowhere he looked almost normal, but that didn't stop you from being scared. Shivering you pushed yourself back on the bed as far as you could to try to get away from him. Sensing your fear Five held out his hands as a way to show you some form of peace. Lowering one hand he slowly approached you. But the closer he came the farther back you shuffled. Something wasn't right Five thought. You were terrified of him, what had happened to you to cause you to be in such a state.
Hey Im not going to hurt you, I don't know who you are but Im not going to hurt you." Five could see that you weren't budging so he reached into his pocket and pulled out a hazelnut toffee-flavored candy. He wasn't a big fan of sweets but had kept some from his last visit to a local coffee shop. "Here you must be a little hungry, it's good to see." He popped it in his mouth to show her that it was safe, not a trick. Slowly you reached out and touched his hand, grabbing the little treat, unwrapping it before letting the gooey sweet melt on your tongue. Five smiled at your reaction. "See? It was good." He thought you looked adorable with big doe eyes waiting to see if he had any more. He reached into his right pocket and pulled out another handle full of candies. "Ill give you one each time you answer a question. Can you do that for me?" You nodded slowly. "Okay, can you tell me your name?" "Angel" you pointed to yourself "Five" you pointed to him. You had heard Klaus shouting his name when you entered the house. "Angel? Do you have a last time?" "Five. Five Hargreeves" He pointed to himself. "Angel" You repeated. Okay maybe you didn't have a last name that was fine, at least he had gotten a name. He gave you another candy and watched you excitedly open it. "Okay Angel, another question where did you come from? Who or what were you running from?" "Doctor" you responded looking down. "What Doctor? What did he do to you." You felt like you should have known better than to trust the boy in front of you, but he looked so earnest so sweet, that you decided to show him your secret. Opening your fist a ball of shadows appeared in your hand before you tossed it into the air letting whatever light was in the room dissipate. Five knew what this had suggested. Whoever took you, held you captive, and experimented on you. Perhaps they were trying to make you into one of the unlucky 43. Another candy was handed to you.
“Show me more” Five demanded. You blinked at him slowly before he put another candy in your hand. “Show me.”
You looked at him and brought both your hands up into the air. He watched shadows run from the ground into the room and swirl around you. It appeared you could summon shadows at your will and control them.
“Good girl” and another candy as placed in your hand. "Tell me, Angel, do you know where or who it was? Do you know the name of the commission?" You stared at him blankly not understanding what he said. Before Five could ask any more questions Klaus had burst through the door. "My Angel! You are okay !" As he rushed towards you to grab your face. Stunned you jolted back from his presence. "Angel, that's why she called herself that, it's not her name, it’s what you called her!" Five went to smack Klaus in the back of the head when his hand was stopped by a shadow. "No hurt, Klaus friend" With heart eyes, Klaus dove into Angel's arms "LOOK AT MY ANGEL PROTECTING ME!!" With the gentleness of a newborn deer, Angel reached out to Klaus with a small sweet in her hand. "Candy?" "For me? Of course, Angel thank you!" Rolling his eyes at the scene Five teleported to his room to think. Where had this girl come from she had no name could barely speak and had a dark power with unknown consequences. Angel clad in Umbrella Academy uniform, and Klaus were in the living room when a flash appeared in the doorway. "Cinco! Where are you off to?" "Library I need to do some research." But just before he would reach for the doorknob a body was flung into his back. "Here take Angel with you, she needs a new set of clothes, can't have her wearing this uniform, you know all about that wouldn't you?" Klaus said as he shoved Angel forward. "I don't have time, I'm not a babysitter." Five expressed as he grabbed your arms and pushed you back. "Five...mad?" You looked up at Five with tears in your eyes. Reaching out to his face with his hand you softly pet his cheek. "Five...happy. Happy"
The time travelers face softened at the kindness you showed while trying to console him.
“I’m sorry Angel, yes Five is happy. Come on let’s go.”
He grabbed your hand ignoring the feeling of his heart when your soft skin wrapped around his.
————————-In the Car—————————
“Alright Angel, as cute as you look in the uniform we have to get you some normal clothes.”
Five looked over at you, but you were looking out the window. His green eyes passed over the cuts on your legs and the faint but visible bruises on your neck. It wondered him how someone could do this to you, turn a girl who seemed like an Angel into a shadow user. He parked the car at Gimble's before flashing to your side of the door to open it, Five was still a gentleman after all. "Okay now Angel, we're here to buy you some new clothes." You nodded your head to show you understood him and hopped out of the car excited to see the world around you. Being locked up for so long you had forgotten what the outside world looked like. Today the sky was blue with warm gusts of winds filling the air. People and families were seen chattering about. You reached out to grab Five's arm and pulled him closer to the store. Five chucked at your childlike antics, letting himself be whisked away by you. You dragged him to the dress section; some of the kinder doctors had given you books to look at to pass the time, many of them being princess books. There were cute frilly dresses that caught your eye immediately. Rushing forward you grabbed 3 dresses that might have suited you. With a sigh Five grabbed your shoulders wanting to tell you to go find some more practical everyday clothes. But after seeing the glimmer in your eye as if you found the most priceless thing...he couldn't bear take that away from you. "Come on Princess, let's go try them on." He ushered you to the changing room and waited outside. As he turned his back you grabbed his hand, but Five had yanked it back at the unexpected contact. He wasn't completely used to physical touch yet.
Ignoring this you grabbed his hand once more and tried to take him into the dressing room with you. "No Angel I can't go with you, just put on the dresses inside and Ill wait out here."
You had refused to let go of his hand. With another sign he allowed himself to be pulled into the confined space of the changing room. You quickly shimmied out of the uniform skirt and tie throwing it into a random corner. Five's face turned a deep scarlet red, although he was an older man the sight of your small and barely clothes body was enough to make him shift in his pants. Before he could embarrass himself any further he blinked out into the waiting room fanning his face as if he ran a marathon. There were small warning signs in his brain, don't get too attached, she doesn't know better, please don't get a boner right now. Trying to collect himself he put his hands in his face wanting to be anywhere but here right now. You interrupted his train of thought when you came out bouncing with a big smile on your face. The dress you picked out was a cute white summer dress that was white had thick straps tied on your shoulders. The skirt part stopped right above your knees and flared out with a twirl. You looked absolutely adorable, an Angel who wielded the power of a devil. "You look...beautiful" Five muffled through his hand. "Beautiful?" You questioned. "Yes you, Angel, you are beautiful." And as if your smile couldn't get any bigger, you ran and jumped into Five, his arms slowly wrapping around your frame to prevent you from falling.
"Five! Beautiful!" You smiled and pointed at him. Your fingers had graced his cheeks into a smile. Pointing at his dimple "Five! Beautiful" you repeated. "Oh, you think I'm beautiful Angel?" Five couldn't help but also feel happy and continue smiling, something about you felt like a breath of fresh air. His last few weeks had been nonstop paranoia and feeling the effects of an identity crisis, but hearing your laughter and seeing you call him beautiful, it felt as if he was actually living again. However, that didn't stop the nagging fear in the back of his mind of where you came from and what had happened to you. Perhaps it was the assassin in him that just couldn't let him...enjoy a moment. "Come on Angel, let’s get the rest of the dresses and pay. We need to head to the library before it closes." You nodded your head and skipped off to grab the rest of your dresses and clothes. You and Five stood at the cashier waiting to pay. "That will be 45.78." Five pulled out a 50 and felt your head lean on his shoulder. "Five, thank you." You looked up at him with a mischievous gleam in your eye. As he was retrieving his change you leaned up and placed your soft lips on the corner of his mouth. "Five happy?" He looked down at you and blushed "Yes Five is very happy." ————————The Library—————————- You were sat in Five's lap flipping through a picture book while he was doing research. Unfortunately, there was almost no information about any kind of suspicious activities in the area where they had found you or even how you even got to the city. Five had to expand his research on places that might have to do with experimental tests but with so little access he was found himself at a dead end. "Nothing! Absolutely Nothing!" Five yelled before slamming his notebook on the table. You jumped in his lap and covered your ears, eyes filling with heavy teardrops waiting to fall. "Shit Angel Im sorry come here." He cooed wrapping his arms around you for the fourth time today. Five pressed a kiss to the top of your hair and inhaled slowly. You smelt like a blooming meadow and a hint of cinnamon. Closing his eyes he rested his head on yours. It wasn't been often when he felt a peace like this, heck he didn’t even remember the last time he felt calm, other than when he was drinking or passed out after a mission. Your eyelashes fluttered on his neck as you began to press small kisses on his jawline. "Come on Angel what are you doing?" "Make Five happy. Kiss you" You mumbled and continued leaving marks on his neck and jaw. Five clenched his fists around you "Angel if you keep this us I'm not going to be able to hold back." Five groaned as he pulled you closer into his lap. And with his last bit of resolve, he blinked you guys back into the car. "Come on Angel let's go home." He kissed your cheek slightly to assure you he wasn't mad and drove the two of you back. ————————the academy———————--- "Mi hermano and Angel ! You guys are back" Klaus shouted from the couch he was currently lying on. You ran into the living room jumping in front of Klaus to show off your dress.
"My cutie Angel! You look so pretty!"
Klaus then swept you off your feet and into a fit of giggles. Five, who had been observing the scene from the bar was actively trying to fight off the green monster that was creeping up his heart. "Leave her alone Klaus we had a long day. Come on Angel let's have your shower and get ready for bed." It was obvious you needed to be cared for and Five had already begun to assume the role. Pulling out some extra pajamas Five had in his wardrobe he handed them to you before showing you the bathroom. "Shower here and come back to my room when you are done okay?" You nodded back and went into the bathroom. With a sign Five flopped on his back in bed wondering more about you. How could someone he just met cause him to feel such a way? Maybe it was his messed up time-traveling brain that was causing these emotions but deep down he knew he had a hidden attraction to you. He began to think more about your powers. You couldn't be part of the 43 because you were too young but you also showed an understanding of your abilities and more control than Viktor did when he first found out about his. Five would have to talk to you after you shower about your abilities. Small footsteps padded outside his room before stopping. The door swung open and there you stood wrapped in only a small towel Grace had given you. Five green eyes turned wide as you skipped into his room.. You had turned to grab the pajamas he had left you on the bed and dropped your towel. Five sat up instantly, his eyes wandered over the curve of your breasts and the plumpness of your backside. Being in the apocalypse and focused on getting back home to his family never allowed him much time for romance or women, besides Delores. You stood up as bare as the day you were born, nipples perked up at the cold air and you put the silk top and bottom on. Now properly clothed you turned to Five who was staring at you with eyes that rivaled a burning sun. In a blink, he was in front of you grabbing your waist with such a force it felt like you would disappear if he let go. Bringing his lips to your neck he kissed gently and dragged his face to meet your eyes. Soft despreate lips met plump shy ones as you and Five melted into each other. The kiss grew hungry, more desperate, both parties missing the feel of one another. The two of you fell back onto the bed with Five on top of you. Two souls both isolated from the world finally finding solstice in one another. All the questions Five had for you were gone from his mind, the only thing replacing it was the thought of how your body felt against his. A small hand reached into the front of Five's pants. "I want to help Five" You had whispered into his ear. It was going to be a long night.

I’d want to make this into a full series although and go really in depth about Angel who she is and how she got her powers and I defiantly want to bring back the rest of the Hargreaves but I'm not sure when Ill have another creative burst.

Short love: Prologue
Tumblr media
Summary: The is about widowed father Bradley Bradshaw who enlists his brother-in-law Jake Seresin and childhood best friend Robert Floyd to help raise his three daughters, eldest Donna Jo Margaret (D.J for short), middle child Stephanie and youngest Michelle in his San Diego home.
Pairing: Jake "Hangman" Seresin x Reader
Warning: Fluff
In the warm embrace of the morning sun, Y/n stood in Bradley's cozy kitchen, a sense of excitement bubbling within her as she prepared to whip up a batch of pancakes from scratch. The tantalizing aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, mingling with the sweet scent of vanilla and cinnamon that would soon infuse the fluffy pancakes.
With a deft hand, Y/n measured out flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt into a mixing bowl, the ingredients coming together in a cloud of soft white powder. She cracked eggs into the bowl, their golden yolks adding richness to the batter, and poured in a splash of creamy milk.
As she whisked the ingredients together, Y/n's mind drifted back to fond memories of lazy Sunday mornings spent in her grandmother's kitchen, learning the art of pancake-making from the master herself. She smiled at the thought, grateful for the tradition that had been passed down through generations.
Adding a dollop of melted butter and a hint of pure maple syrup to the batter, Y/n stirred until it was smooth and silky, the mixture taking on a golden hue that promised deliciousness with every bite. With a satisfied nod, she set the bowl aside to rest, allowing the flavours to meld and develop while she heated up the griddle.
The sizzle of butter hitting the hot surface filled the kitchen as Y/n ladled spoonful's of batter onto the griddle, each one spreading out into perfect circles of golden goodness. She watched with anticipation as bubbles formed on the surface of the pancakes, signalling that it was time to flip them over to cook on the other side.
With a flick of her wrist, Y/n expertly flipped the pancakes, their edges turning crisp and golden as they cooked to perfection. The kitchen was filled with the mouth-watering aroma of caramelized sugar and warm spices, beckoning her nieces to the breakfast table with eager anticipation.
As Y/n finished up the last batch of pancakes, she heard the sound of footsteps approaching from the hallway. Moments later, Stephanie and DJ, her two oldest nieces, appeared in the kitchen, their faces lighting up with surprise and delight at the sight of the delicious breakfast spread before them.
"Good morning, Aunt Y/n!" Stephanie exclaimed, her voice filled with excitement. "What's all this?"
Y/n turned to greet them, her smile widening at the sight of their eager expressions. "Good morning, girls!" she replied, her voice warm and jovial. "I thought I'd whip up a little breakfast treat for my favourite nieces."
DJ and Stephanie exchanged a look of disbelief, their eyes widening in astonishment. "You made all this?" DJ asked, her voice tinged with amazement.
Y/n nodded proudly, gesturing towards the table where plates of fluffy pancakes, bowls of fresh fruit, and pitchers of maple syrup awaited them. "All from scratch," she confirmed, a twinkle of mischief in his eyes.
Stephanie and DJ wasted no time in helping themselves to the delicious spread, their mouths watering at the sight and smell of the pancakes. They piled their plates high with pancakes, drizzling them generously with syrup and adding a handful of fresh berries on the side.
As they dug into their breakfast, laughter and conversation filled the kitchen, the sound of their voices blending harmoniously with the clink of forks against plates. Y/n watched them with pride, her heart swelling with love for her nieces and the joy of being able to spoil them with a homemade breakfast. Together, they savoured each mouthful of pancakes, savouring the warmth and comfort of being together as a family.
As Y/n sat at the kitchen table with her two nieces, DJ and Stephanie, the aroma of freshly made pancakes filled the air, mingling with the excitement bubbling within her. With a warm smile, she decided to share with them stories of her recent geographic news reporting trip to Australia, a journey that had taken her to the far reaches of the continent.
"DJ, Stephanie, did I ever tell you about my recent trip to Australia for work?" Y/n began, her voice filled with anticipation.
The girls shook their heads, their eyes wide with curiosity as they eagerly dug into their pancakes.
"Well, let me tell you, it was an adventure unlike any other," Y/n continued, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she recounted her memories.
"As a geographic news reporter, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to some of the most remote and breath-taking locations in Australia. From the rugged Outback to the lush rainforests, I witnessed the stunning diversity of landscapes that make up this vast continent."
DJ and Stephanie listened intently, their pancake-filled mouths forgotten as they hung on Y/n's every word.
"I explored ancient Aboriginal sites, where rock art told the stories of generations past. I trekked through dense rainforests, where towering trees and cascading waterfalls created a sense of wonder and awe."
The girls gasped in amazement, their imaginations sparked by Y/n's vivid descriptions.
"But do you know what was truly remarkable?" Y/n asked, her voice filled with wonder.
"What?" DJ and Stephanie chimed in unison.
"The people," Y/n replied, her voice tinged with admiration. "I met incredible individuals who were deeply connected to the land and its rich cultural heritage. From Aboriginal elders sharing their wisdom to local communities welcoming me with open arms, I was constantly inspired by their resilience and strength."
As they finished their pancakes, DJ and Stephanie bombarded Y/n with questions about her trip, eager to learn more about the fascinating experiences she had encountered. And as Y/n shared more stories and answered their curious inquiries, she knew that her nieces were already dreaming of their own adventures, inspired by the tales of distant lands and faraway journeys.
In the bustling kitchen of the Bradshaw household, Y/n watched the clock anxiously as her two nieces, DJ and Stephanie, leisurely nibbled on their pancakes. With each passing second, her sense of urgency grew, knowing that they were perilously close to missing their school bus.
"Come on, girls, hurry up! You need to finish your pancakes quickly so we can get you to the bus stop on time," Y/n urged, her voice tinged with urgency.
DJ and Stephanie glanced at each other, their eyes widening with realization as they realized the gravity of the situation. With newfound determination, they began to eat with renewed speed, their pancakes disappearing in record time.
As Y/n bustled around the kitchen, packing their backpacks and gathering their coats, she couldn't help but feel a sense of frustration at the time ticking away. The school bus would be arriving any minute, and she dreaded the thought of having to drive them to school herself.
"Come on, girls, we need to go!" Y/n called out, her voice tinged with urgency as she ushered them out the door.
With a final gulp of orange juice and a hasty goodbye, DJ and Stephanie scrambled out of their chairs and raced to the front door, their backpacks slung over their shoulders.
As they hurried down the front steps and onto the sidewalk, Y/n breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that they had made it just in time. With a quick wave goodbye, she watched as they boarded the school bus, their faces flushed with excitement and the thrill of making it just in time.
As the bus pulled away from the curb and disappeared around the corner, Y/n couldn't help but smile. Despite the chaos and rush of the morning, she knew that she wouldn't have it any other way. After all, these were the moments that made being an aunt so special.
In the early morning hustle and bustle of the Bradshaw household, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed down the stairs as Bradley rushed into the kitchen, baby Michelle cradled in his arms. His face was a mix of determination and concern as he quickly scanned the room.
"Y/n, I'm running late for work," Bradley exclaimed, his voice filled with urgency as he handed Michelle over to his roommate. "Can you watch Michelle for me while I grab my briefcase?"
Y/n, caught off guard by her friend's sudden appearance, quickly adjusted to the situation, taking Michelle into her arms with practiced ease. "Of course, Bradley," she replied, her voice calm and reassuring. "I've got her. Don't worry."
With a grateful nod, Bradley dashed back up the stairs, his footsteps echoing through the house as he hurried to gather his belongings. Y/n watched him go, a fond smile playing on her lips as she cradled Michelle close.
As the minutes ticked by, Y/n soothed Michelle with gentle words and soft caresses, the baby content in her aunt's loving embrace. She hummed a soft lullaby, the melody filling the air with warmth and comfort.
Finally, Bradley reappeared in the kitchen, his briefcase in hand and a grateful smile on his face. "Thank you, Y/n," he said, his voice filled with gratitude as he leaned in to kiss Michelle on the forehead. "I couldn't have done it without you."
Y/n smiled back, her heart swelling with love for her friend and her precious niece. "Anytime, Brad," she replied, her voice filled with warmth. "You know I'm always here for you and Michelle."
With a quick goodbye, Bradley rushed out the door, his footsteps fading into the distance as he headed off to work. Left alone in the kitchen with Michelle, Y/n couldn't help but feel a sense of fulfilment wash over her. Despite the chaos of the morning, moments like these reminded her of the bond that held their family together, strong and unbreakable.
With Bradley gone and the kitchen now quiet, Y/n cradled Michelle in her arms, the baby's warm weight a comforting presence against her chest. As she gazed down at her tiny niece, Y/n couldn't help but marvel at the innocence and beauty of this small, precious life in her care.
With practiced ease, Y/n reached for a bottle of warm formula, prepared earlier in anticipation of moments like this. She settled into a cozy armchair by the window, the morning sunlight casting a gentle glow over the room, and carefully positioned the bottle for Michelle to latch onto.
Michelle, ever the eager eater, eagerly accepted the bottle, her hungry suckles filling the air with a soft rhythm. Y/n watched with a mixture of tenderness and awe as the baby drank, her heart swelling with love for this little bundle of joy.
As Michelle nursed, Y/n gently stroked her soft cheek, whispering words of love and reassurance. She marvelled at the bond that had formed between them, a connection that transcended words and filled her with a sense of purpose and belonging.
Time seemed to stand still as Y/n and Michelle shared this intimate moment, the outside world fading away as they basked in the warmth of each other's presence. In the quiet stillness of the morning, surrounded by love and tenderness, Y/n knew that she was exactly where she was meant to be.
And as Michelle finished her bottle with a contented sigh, her eyelids growing heavy with drowsiness, Y/n held her close, savouring the precious moments of peace and quiet. In these simple moments, she found joy and fulfilment, knowing that she was fulfilling her role as both aunt and caregiver with all the love in her heart.
With baby Michelle nestled in her arms, her tiny fingers curling around Y/n's, the aunt couldn't resist engaging in a little conversation with her niece.
"You know, Michelle," Y/n began, her voice soft and gentle, "we're going to have some special visitors later today. Uncle Bob and Uncle Jake are moving in with us for a while."
Michelle's bright eyes blinked up at Y/n, her small mouth forming a curious O-shape. Y/n chuckled at the adorable expression, feeling a surge of affection for the little one in her arms.
"They're going to be staying with us for a little bit while they get settled," Y/n continued, her tone warm and reassuring. "It's going to be so much fun having them around. They're going to make you laugh and smile, just like they always do."
As Y/n spoke, Michelle cooed softly in response, her eyes fixed on her aunt's face as if trying to understand every word. Y/n couldn't help but marvel at the way Michelle seemed to be taking in everything around her, her innocence and curiosity a constant source of joy.
"I think you're going to love having them here, Michelle," Y/n said, her voice filled with excitement. "They're going to be the best uncles ever, I just know it."
With a contented sigh, Y/n hugged Michelle a little tighter, feeling grateful for the bond they shared and the adventures that lay ahead with their extended family. And as she rocked Michelle gently in her arms, she couldn't wait to see the smiles and laughter that Uncle Bob and Uncle Jake would bring into their lives once they arrived later that day.

(previously on the fabulous adventures of sun summoner ava and the druskelle who’s gonna fall in love with her)
It’s their third day of walking, from one whaling shelter to another, and so far Ava has learned that the druskelle is fastidious to the point of absurdity, that she sleeps on her left side-- potentially due to the cruel burn scar that Ava had seen on the first night, in spite of the way they had both burrowed deep under their respective bearskins until their clothes dried; it starts below her ribcage on her right side and snakes down past her hip, terminating in a splotchy discoloration halfway down her thigh-- that she sleeps light but pretends not to wake up when Ava wiggles closer in the middle of the night for warmth and starts each morning with a set of fifty pushups, and that she’s proven herself impressively immune to Ava’s charming habit of chattering to fill the silence.
She still doesn’t know her name.
Ava’s halfway into a hilarious story-- in Fjerdan, just to irritate the druskelle-- about when she and Diego had managed to prank Frances at the orphanage with an elaborate plot involving a rabbit snare, a basket full of fresh mushrooms, and a piece of twine stolen from the kitchens.  She’s taken a detour in her rambling, away from Keramzin and towards her first and only experience in the unsea, stowing away on a skiff in a desperate attempt to keep her little brother safe, and has been on an impressively colorful five-minutes-and-building rant about how the First Army had treated the both of them after her powers became known.  She can feel her own frustration building, at the situation and at the druskelle and at the darkling, when the druskelle speaks for the first time in hours.
“--and then the lieutenant, that cunt--”
“Should you really refer to your commanding officer so crassly?”
Ava nearly trips at the sound of her voice.  It’s melodious and soft, her accent rounded warmly.  The other druskelle on the ship had sharper accents, thinner edges to their vowels: a Djerholm accent, urban and rich, the accent of the children of nobility plucked for elite service.  This druskelle, though, has a quiet, rural accent that differentiates her from the rest of the druskelle as her dark hair and eyes had differentiated her from the rest of Fjerda.
“She speaks,” Ava manages to say after a split second.  “And here I was thinking that the druskelle had made you take a vow of silence.”
“I speak,” she echoes thinly.  “Only when there is something worth speaking to.  Such as insubordination.”
“Don’t tell me you’re concerned with me respecting a Ravkan lieutenant.”
“You are a soldier, even if you are a witch,’ she says.  She steps around a patch of snow that looks exactly like the rest, and Ava follows automatically.  “Soldiers should respect their commanding officers.”
“Well,” Ava says grandly.  “Forgive me for not agreeing to let my brother get sent to slaughter.  Some of us have beating hearts instead of unwavering obedience to work with.”
The druskelle doesn’t respond.  She continues hiking, and Ava nearly drops the bearskin she’d hauled with her for the last two days, wrapped around her shoulders like the druskelle’s cloak is wrapped around her own.  An irritation builds in her stomach, itching and impossible to ignore.
“Hey,” she says sharply.  “What should I have done, then?  What would you have done if it was your brother?”
“I never had a brother,” the druskelle says without hesitation.
“Fine, play with semantics,” Ava says, unwilling to give up.  She hitches the bearskin higher around her shoulders and scrambles after her.  “Someone you love.  Your best friend.  Your mother--”
“My parents threw me out,” the druskelle says.  She turns abruptly, quick enough that Ava nearly falls on her ass trying to stop from barrelling into her.  “They took me on a carriage out into the wilderness and left me there.  When I tried to go home, my entire village had been destroyed by an inferni.  My parents burned in their beds.”
Ava stares at her, the bearskin heavy at her shoulders.  She’d grown up in Keramzin, meaningless and unimportant and dreaming like all orphans do about parents who loved her, a mother and a father who would love her if they were still alive.  It had never occurred to her, a war orphan whose only memory of her parents was them trying to protect her when the war spilled into their town, that there were parents who might cast their children aside.
“I am druskelle to protect Fjerda,” the druskelle says, fury snapping in her dark eyes.  “To protect other children from losing their families to witchcraft.  From people like you.”
“To protect people from me,” Ava says slowly.  “People like your parents, who threw you away?”
The druskelle’s jaw clenches, muscles in her neck working in stark lines, faint freckles dark against the flush of anger spreading across her cheeks.  “I became druskelle to honor them in their death as I should have when they lived,” she says, voice shaking with anger.
“You hunt people who just want to exist so you can honor people who abandoned you in the woods?” Ava shoves at her shoulder.  It’s weak-- she’s exhausted, and hasn’t eaten in two days, and the druskelle has broad shoulders and powerful arms that Ava has become more familiar with than she’d ever want to, thanks to the Fjerdan cold and the unheated huts they’ve been forced to sleep in, and she barely flinches with the effort.  Ava slams a fist into her shoulder, stubborn and unwilling to give up.  “I never wanted to be grisha.  I didn’t ask to be this.  I just wanted to keep my brother safe and then--”
A groan snaps through the air, and she cuts off when the druskelle’s eyes go wide.  There’s a split second when she’s about to pick up her anger and keep ranting, and then the world cracks below her feet and she falls.
She slams into the side of the crevasse, her shoulder nearly dislocating and an aching pressure around her wrist.  Her face crashes into the ice of the ravine when her momentum stops, and she lets out a pained noise through gritted teeth before looking up.
Above her the druskelle is flat on her stomach, both hands closed tight around Ava’s wrist, and they both freeze.  Ava hangs from her grip, her entire body aching as it hangs from the druskelle’s hands.  She could drop Ava, could just let go and let her fall into the unending dark below her, leave her here to die alone and cold in the middle of the wilderness, and no one would ever find her.  The druskelle who killed the sun summoner, a hero to the Fjerdan people for killing the first hope the Ravkan people have had in four centuries..
Ava hangs in her hands and finds the same desperate need to live, the one that had burst out of her when a volcra’s claws had latched onto her on the deck of the skiff and tried to pull her away from Diego, crawling up her throat.  Sunlight warms under her skin, but sunlight won’t save her here.
“Please,” she says, aching and scared.  The unwavering grip on her arm aches, radiating beautifully down her arm, the only thing keeping her alive.  “Please.”
The druskelle stares down at her, hands still tight around her wrist, and Ava watches her eyes narrow and shoulders somehow square even as she lays half-hanging over the edge of the ravine, and then, suddenly, she pulls.
Ava’s shoulder screams, the joint protesting the tension it’s under, until she can get her other arm up and gripping at the druskelle’s wrist and square up her weight.  It’s only half a minute, maybe, before Ava is able to reach up and latch onto the druskelle’s arm to help pull herself the rest of the way up and crawl over the edge, sprawl onto the snow, but it feels like an eternity.  Her body aches with the effort, but she collapses onto her side next to the druskelle and then rolls onto her back, gasping and shaking and staring at the cold gray sky.
Next to her, the druskelle flops onto her back as well, and Ava’s head rolls to the side to stare at her profile and the way her chest is heaving.
“Beatrice,” the druskelle says eventually.  “My name is Beatrice.”
Ava keeps staring at her, at the straight line of her nose and the arc of her cheekbone and the sweep of her jaw.  The druskelle who saved her life.  Beatrice.
“Beatrice,” she echoes after too long staring.  She speaks carefully, testing the way the name feels in her mouth.  “I’m Ava.”
Beatrice’s head tilts to the side, precise and meticulous, until she can look at Ava.  Her dark eyes are unreadable but her mouth is soft and uncertain, and Ava fights the urge to shift closer and curl herself into Beatrice’s side.
“Pleased to make your acquaintance.”  Beatrice drags one arm up and offers it awkwardly across the space between them, and Ava meets her in the middle without thinking about it.  Her hand is warm, somehow, despite the cold they’re lost in; her palm calloused and her thumb folding carefully over the back of Ava’s hand.
“Nice to meet you, Beatrice,” Ava finally says.
Ava means to let go, but her hand lingers.  Beatrice doesn’t let go either, and Ava can barely feel the cold seeping through her kefta-- the bearskin had fallen away, lost into the ravine-- for long seconds before Beatrice pulls her hand free and stands up, only to offer it back to Ava and pull her up to her feet.
Wordlessly, Beatrice strips her cloak off and wraps it around Ava’s shoulders.  She fastens the clasp and her knuckles brush against Ava’s throat, and a warmth that has nothing to do with her summoning spreads through Ava.

The next morning you wake up, still wrapped tightly in Bradley’s arms, neither of you had moved much during the night. He was still sound asleep, his lashes rested against his cheeks, his breathing deep and even. He looked so relaxed, carefree while sleeping, you felt a tug on your heart. This man had come into your life and had quickly captured your heart. You smiled, knowing that soon the mess that was your life would be in the past and you decided to firmly embrace this new life, a life that included Bradley.
You leaned forward, placing featherlight kisses on his forehead, his cheek, and the tip of his nose before you started to stir. A smile instantly appears on his face when his eyes peek open and focus on you. His hands pull you closer to him, wanting you as close as possible.
“Morning, Sweetheart.” He said, leaning forward to capture your lips in a soft kiss. “Did you sleep ok?”
“Good morning” You replied, against his lips. “I’ve never slept better. How about you?”
“Honestly, I’m not sure how I’ll go back to sleeping without you,” He confessed, “That’s the best sleep I can ever remember getting as well.”
“Thank you.” You said, running your hand over his chest, “For last night…for staying with me… for keeping me and Gracie safe… for being you.”
“Sweetheart.” He said, pulling you closer, “You do not have to thank me for any of that. I will happily stay with you any time. I would do literally anything to keep you and Gracie safe. You two are very quickly becoming my whole world…hoping that doesn’t scare you off.”
“You could never scare me off.” You promised, “You’ve become a huge part of Gracie’s and my world and… I know we both want to keep you.”
“I’m yours, Sweetheart.” He said, his voice confident and sure.
You can hear voices in the hall and know that Jake must have gotten up with Gracie again. It had become a sort of ritual between the pair. Jake would get Gracie up in the morning and it was their time together.
“Shhh” You hear Jake shush, followed by Gracie’s giggle. You and Bradley both smile at the sound.
“Unco Jakey, you open?” Gracie asked Jake.
“We need to let Mommy and Rooster sleep, Princess G.” Jake said, “They had a very long night.”
You anticipated the squeal at the mention of Bradley being here.
“WOOSTA!” Gracie exclaimed, happily, “Pwease, Unco Jakey?”
Knowing he’d be unable to tell your daughter no, you prepared for the invasion.
Jake knocks on the door, “Making sure everyone is decent, incoming princess!” The door opens and Gracie comes bounding through.
“Woosta! Mommy!” She yells, running as fast as her little legs will carry her. Bradley sits up, ready to lift her up onto the bed.
“Good Morning, Princess.” He says, holding her close as he scoops her up into his arms. She snuggles right into him, laying her head on his bare shoulder, her chubby arms locking around his neck.
“Y’all ok in here?” Jake asks, peeking around the door.
“We’re good, Jakey.” You replied, “Thank you for getting up with her.”
“I love mornings with my Princess G.” He replied, “I’m gonna go finish getting breakfast made. Should be ready in a bit.”
“Sounds good.” You smiled, “Nat helping?” You giggled at the blush that crept up over your brother’s neck and face.
“You’re a brat, Tulip.” he said, playfully scowling at you before shutting the door again.
“Woosta, you pway wif me today?” Gracie asked, batting her sweet lashes at Bradley.
“I would love to stay and play with you today, Princess.” He replied, “I do have to go home for a tiny tiny bit to shower and change clothes. Maybe we can convince Mommy to go to the park to play.”
“I come wif you Woosta?” She asked, “Pwease?”
“How can I say ‘no’ to that?” He asked you, looking panicked. You laughed, shaking your head and shrugging.  Seeing that you didn’t seem opposed to the idea, he decided today wouldn’t be the day he told Gracie ‘no’.   “You can absolutely come with me, Princess. We can even stop and get ice cream.”
“Ice cweam?” She asked, eyes going wide in excitement.
“Yup. What do you think, Gracie,” He asked, “Should we take Mommy with us on the ice cream trip? Or should Mommy stay home?”
“Uhh,” She replied, looking at the ceiling and putting her finger to her face, “Yes. Mommy come too.”
“Thank you so much, Gracie Girl!” You said in an exaggeratedly excited tone, grabbing her up and tickling her. She dissolved into giggles, reaching for Bradley to rescue her. He quickly pulled her back dramatically, making a big show of ‘saving’ her from the tickle attack.
“I’ll save you, Princess!” He exclaimed, once more holding her tightly to him. You laughed at their antics.
Once the giggles subsided, Bradley looked at you, smiling, “So, what are your plans for today?”
“Apparently going for ice cream and a park playdate,” You replied, chuckling. “I have to call my lawyer though too and find out from her if I need to do anything.”
“Do you want to do that first?” He asked, “That way, if you need it, I’m here to support you and Jake and Nat are here to wrangle Gracie.”
“Yeah,” You replied, “I might as well get it over with”  Bradley leaned in, kissing you softly in encouragement, Gracie copying him and also kissing you. “My own sweet support group. How did I get so lucky?”
“I think Gracie and I are the lucky ones to have YOU, Sweetheart.” Bradley corrected.
Once you were all up and dressed, poor Bradley needing to wear his clothes from the night before, you all made your way to the kitchen where Nat was sitting at the island, sipping coffee. Jake was flipping pancakes on the stove, a stack of already made ones piled high on a plate.
“Breakfast is almost done.” He said, looking over his shoulder, winking at Nat when he caught her checking out his ass. “Just finishing the chocolate chip ones for Princess G now.”
“I swear between you two men, she’s going to be spoiled rotten in no time.” You laughed, heading to the fridge to get her some milk in a sippy cup.
“Impossible.” Jake and Bradley both chimed in.
“She makes it hard NOT to want to spoil her.” Nat said, “She’s literally the cutest little girl I have ever seen.”
“It’s the Seresin genes.” Jake said, flashing his signature cocky smile, to which Nat just rolled her eyes,
“She’s her Mommy’s mini me.” Bradley said winking at you, “She gets all those good looks straight from her Momma.”
You set Gracie in her booster chair at the table, and set the milk down in front of her. Jake brought over a small plate with a cut up pancake on it with the toddler fork for Gracie
While Gracie was occupied with her pancake you made your way to the living room and called your lawyer. You felt bad calling the emergency weekend line but the officers had told you you needed to contact her today.
“Hello, this is Lauren Kennedy.” She answered quickly.
“Hi, Lauren, it’s Y/N.” You answered, “I’m so sorry to bother you on the weekend, but the officers last night said I should contact you.”
“Good Morning, Y/N. '' She said warmly, “Do not apologize at all. What officers?”
“Umm, well when I got home last night, Trent was sitting in a car out in front of the house.” You explained, “I was coming home…from a date. Bradley… the guy I was with and Jake held him off while I got inside and called the police. The umm, defended me….so Trent went to jail a little banged up.”
“Are you and Gracie OK?” She asked, alert and her voice switching to a fierce, no nonsense tone “Did he get physical or verbally abusive?”
“We’re OK.” You assured her, “Gracie was inside in bed. Trent just ran his mouth about me being on a date… and used derogatory language towards me, but he wasn’t able to physically harm me. Jake and Bradley make very effective bodyguards.”
“That’s good.” She said, “I will head to the station to find out what I can and will make sure he is charged with defying the order of protection. I will be in contact with his lawyer today as well and use this to put pressure on them to sign the papers. I know it must have been scary, but in the end, he may have done you a favor in speeding up this process.”
“It definitely shook me up.” You admitted, “Honestly, I didn’t really think he’d come out here. I’m not gonna lie, I’m kinda scared he’ll try to corner me again. I can’t always be with my brother or Bradley. They both have careers.”
“I understand,” She replied, “I will find out all I can about what is happening. I’m sure he’s called his lawyer and he’ll be working on securing his release. I’ll keep you posted on when that release will be and I recommend trying to make sure you’re not alone for the time being.”
“I just want this to be over.” You sighed, the weight of it all once more falling on your shoulders. The lightness you’d felt when you were on the date with Bradley and again this morning before reality hit again was being replaced with a heavy anxious feeling.
As if sensing you were in need of support, Bradley quietly came into the living room and moved to stand behind you, wrapping his arms around your middle and lending you his strength and comfort. You leaned your head back against his chest, taking a deep breath.
“It will be over soon, Y/N.” Lauren again assured you, “You have my word. I’ll give you a call a little later with an update, OK?”
“Thank you so much,” You replied “For everything.”
“It’s my pleasure,” She said, “In the meantime, try to enjoy your day… maybe spend more time with this Bradley fellow… he sounds like a keeper.”
“I will.” You said, smiling, “And he is.”  You ended the call, pocketing your phone and turning in Bradley’s embrace, wrapping your arms around his neck.
“Everything ok, Sweetheart?” He asked, resting his head against yours.
“Yeah.” You replied, “She said she’s going to call the station to get an update and his lawyer to push to end this. She’s going to call back when she knows more…and when she has information on his release.”
“He won’t get a second chance at getting close to you, Sweetheart.” He promised, “Jake and I already have plans for someone to be with you and Gracie for as long as needed.”
“Bradley, I can’t ask you all to put your lives on hold for me to play bodyguard.” You said, pulling back to look at him in the eyes. “You’ve all already gone way above and beyond the call of duty. Hell you and Jake risked your careers last night physically keeping Trent from me.”
“Tulip, I would do it again in less than a heartbeat,” Jake said, walking into the living room. “I’d bet my future career on the fact that Rooster here would too. You’re not asking any of us to do anything. It’s simply what a family does for one another…for the people you love. I couldn’t live with myself if something happened to either you or Gracie. End of argument.”
It wasn’t often that your brother took an absolute authoritarian tone with you… in fact, you could count on one hand the number of times it had happened….and have fingers left over. The times he DID take the no nonsense tone…the one you imagined he’d used on those under his command… were times where your health or safety were in question. You knew not to argue with Jake when it came to what he perceived he needed to do to keep you safe. The look on Bradley’s face said he was on the same page as Jake and would do anything necessary to keep you and Gracie safe and secure.
Times when Trent would use that authoritarian intimidating tone on you, it would cause you to feel physically ill and uneasy. Knowing with him it was simply from a place of wanting to have and exert control over you, to bend you to his will. With Jake and Bradley you knew they would never force you to obey them or blindly follow orders to stroke their egos or make themselves feel better about themselves. In all other matters or situations, you knew they would bend over backwards, move heaven and earth to allow you the freedom to set your own path.
Sighing, you accepted that you weren’t winning this battle and if making sure you and Gracie were safe and cared for made THEM happy then you would do your part and follow their lead.
“I love you, Tulip.” Jake said, seeing your shoulders visibly relax, knowing he’d gotten through to you.
“I love you too, Jakey.” You replied, stepping back from Bradley’s embrace and hugging your brother on your way into the kitchen to get some much needed breakfast and coffee.
“What did the lawyer say?” Jaked asked Bradley once you’d gone into the kitchen.
“She’s going to call the station to find out what the status of the charges are and calling his lawyer to try to pressure them into settling. She’ll call when she knows more and will give us a heads up about his release.” Bradley replied.
“They going to be with you today?” Jake asked, “I was going to ask Nat out on a real date tonight, if you’re plannin’ on sticking close.”
“Absolutely.”Bradley said, “I’ve got the girls. Go on the date. It’ll make your sister happy too. She really likes Nat.”
“So do I.” Jake said, smiling. “She’s tough as fucking nails, man, and loves to bust my balls… but it’s also what I really like about.”
“You’re good for one another.” Bradley said, “Just… make sure you’re sure. She is the strongest person I know but she’s soft too… if she’s letting you in, cherish it for the absolute gift it is.”
“I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life.” Jake confirmed, “I think she may be the one… and I’m planning on doing everything I can to be good enough to deserve her.”
“You are good enough, Hangman.” Bradley said sincerely, “I think you may be the only one who doens’t believe it.”
“Thanks, Rooster.” Jake replied, smiling softly.
The two made their way back into the kitchen with the girls. Gracie was finishing her pancakes and had managed to get syrup everywhere.
“Ok, looks like a certain Princess G needs a bath already this morning.” Jake laughed, “Let’s go get you cleaned up while your momma and Bradley eat their breakfast, OK?”
“Otay!” Gracie agreed, never one to turn down a bath. “Nix too?”
“I’ll come too, Sweet Girl.” Phoenix smiled at Gracie, “Have to make sure Uncle Jakey doesn’t mess up.”
“I’m wounded, Nat.” Jake pouted, picking Gracie up from her booster seat and winking at you on their way out of the kitchen.
You and Bradley finished eating breakfast going over a rough plan for the day. Once Gracie was all cleaned and dressed, Phoenix brushed her hair and pulled it into pigtails. You’d commented on what a great team Jake and Nat made when they’d presented the final product.
You packed up a diaper bag with snacks, a cup and a change of clothes for Gracie while Bradley got her shoes on her and loaded her into the carseat that they’d loaded into the back of the Bronco.
While Bradley showered and changed, you kept Gracie occupied playing in his living room with a few small toys you’d brought along with you. You looked around the living room as she played, taking in the few pictures he had in frames on shelves and various awards he’d won on display. The space was very put together and clean, which is honestly what you expected from the aviator based on his personality. Even though there wasn’t a lot of stuff in his space, it was still homely and welcoming. Not surprisingly, he had a piano in one corner of the living room, making you smile. You’d heard Jake tell stories of Bradley entertaining the entire Hard Deck with impromptu concerts.
“Mommy, I firsty.” Gracie said, continuing to play on the floor.
“Do you want your juice?” You asked, reaching for the bag you’d packed her.
“Yes, pwease.” She replied, sweetly. You smiled, pulling the cup out from the bag and handing it to her. She took several sips of the juice before setting the cup next to her.
“Who’s ready to go to the park?” Bradley asked, coming down the stairs into the living room.
“Me!” Gracie said, jumping up from where she’d been playing, “Woosta, up! Up!”
He chuckled, swinging her up into his arms. She cupped his face with her little hands, turning his face to hers, “Woosta, I wuv you.” she told him sweetly. Your heart absolutely melted.
“Gracie, I absolutely love you too, Princess.” He replied, leaning forward to softly kiss her nose, making her giggle.
You loaded Gracie back into the Bronco and the three of you made your way to the park. Bradley chased her around through the grass, both of their giggles audible from where you sat on a blanket watching the two play. You snapped several pictures, capturing the moments and fully intending to get some printed and framed. It was easy to daydream to a future scene where Bradley would be chasing after an older Gracie and perhaps a little boy or girl around the age she was now…maybe even with you holding an even younger one. One thing was for sure, it was absolutely easy to picture a future with Bradley in it.
“Gracie wants to go on the swings.” Bradley said, walking over to where you were seated, pulling you from your daydream.
“Ok” You smiled brightly, “To the swings we go.”  You got up and walked with them over to the swings, Bradley securing Gracie in one that was an actual seat with a pull over harness.
“How high do you wanna go, Princess?” Bradley asked, pulling the swing back.
“To the Cwouds!” She exclaimed, “Wike you and Unco Jakey!”
“That’s super high.” You said, “You might launch into outer space!”
“Woosta save me!” Gracie said absolutely confidently. You smiled over at Bradley who was puffed up all proudly at Gracie’s words, a look of pure softness and love on his face.
“I will always save you Gracie girl.” He promised her, “I will never let anything bad happen to you.”
Bradley pulled the swing back higher and released, sending Gracie soaring. You pulled out your phone to record a video of her laughing in the swing with Bradley pushing her.
Gracie was content on the swing for several minutes before she demanded to go on the twisty slide. You compromised and convinced her to go on the smaller slide that was safer for her small size, not wanting to spend the rest of the day in the emergency room.
“Catch me, Woosta!” She squealed, scooting down to slide down the slide. Bradley happily ‘catching’ her and launching her back into the air making you erupt into a fresh round of belly laughs each time. That continued several more rounds before Gracie made it known she was hungry. Glancing at your watch you realized it was in fact lunch time and would soon be her nap time as well.
“We should head back to the house so I can feed her and put her down for a nap.” You said. “She’ll sleep well after playing in the park all morning.”
“Come on, Princess.” Bradley said, scooping her up one final time from the slide. This time he swung her up onto his shoulders, much to her delight. “Time to get you some lunch.”
“What a lovely family you are. We’ve enjoyed watching your little one play.” An older woman commented as you all passed where she was seated with her husband. “Enjoy all of these moments. They grow so fast!”
“Thank you so much.” You replied, finding it easier to go with it than to correct the nice lady, glancing at Bradley to check his reaction. He winked at you, smiling, letting you know with one look that he was absolutely more than ok with the comment. Honestly, you wished he WERE Gracie’s dad and you were just a regular little family out for a day in the park.
When you got back from the park, Jake’s truck was gone, as was Phoenix’s car. You assumed they were off somewhere together but figured Jake would check in at some point. Bradley had mentioned that Jake wanted to take Phoenix out on a date that night so maybe they were making plans for that.
After parking the Bronco, Bradley pulled Gracie from her carseat while you carried in her bag. He took her in to get cleaned up from the park, giving you time to get lunch started. You decided to heat up leftovers for you and Bradley and make Gracie a grilled cheese sandwich with cut up fruit and veggies. You were just putting it on plates when they came strolling into the kitchen.
“Perfect timing!” You smiled at them.
“Smells amazing in here.” Bradley said, dropping a light kiss on your head before moving to get Gracie in her booster seat. “We weren’t gone that long getting cleaned up, how did you manage such an amazing spread?”
“It’s just leftovers” You laughed, shrugging, “It doesn't take a lot of effort to hit the reheat button on the microwave.”
“Maybe not, but it DID take effort to make it the first time and I DEFINITELY appreciate getting to eat it now.” He replied, helping you carry plates to the table.
“Speaking of cooking, any requests for the week?” You asked.
“Sweetheart, you really don’t have to do all that.” He insisted, “I don’t wanna be extra work for you.”
“You’re not.” You promised, “I cook for Jake, Gracie and me anyway. Making enough to make sure you at least have a healthy lunch is absolutely no extra work… and it makes me happy knowing you’re not eating vending machine food.”
“If you’re sure…” He said, “I will happily eat whatever you make.”
“Bradley.” You laughed, rolling your eyes, “It’s ok to make requests. I LIKE making things you like.”
“That’s easy, I like everything you make.” He replied, smirking. “Isn’t that, Princess? Mommy is the best cook ever?”
“Yes!” Gracie agreed, although you’re pretty sure she’d agree with anything Bradley said.
“See?” Bradley winked, taking another bite of his lunch.
“Maybe I’ll leave you to the vending machine lunch after all.” you threatened, sticking your tongue out at him playfully.
“Angel…Sweetheart….Baby…” he said, pouting and giving you puppy eyes, “Please don’t make me eat nasty vending machine food.”
“You’re sure changing your tune now, huh?” You teased him.
After you all finished eating, Bradley volunteered to clean up the lunch mess while you got Gracie down for a nap.
You were getting Gracie settled down for her nap when Jake came home.
“Hey” Jake said to Bradley, who’d finished the cleanup and was sitting on the couch. “How was the park?”
“It was a blast. Gracie has a lot of energy.” He laughed, “She loves to get pushed high on the swing, said she wanted to fly high like we do.”
“That little girl is fearless.” Jake chuckled, pride shining in his eyes. “I bet she becomes a kickass aviator when she grows up.”
“Whatever she does, she’ll be perfect.” Bradley said. “How did date planning go with Phoenix?”
“It’s good. She had some stuff she had to do today and I went to run some errands and get stuff done.” He said, vaguely, “I’m picking Nat up though at 6 to take her to dinner at that new restaurant she’s been talking about.”
“What do we wanna do about tomorrow?” Bradley asked, “Do we pack up the girls and take them to base with us?”
“I know Mav would be fine with that, but I doubt Admiral Simpson would be ok with it.”Jake replied, “I went by the police station today… thought I’d have a little heart to heart with my soon to be ex brother in law.”
“How did that go?” Bradley asked, not surprised that Jake had gone. Kind of surprised the police had let him see him though.
“I reiterated our expectations of him, and what would happen if he didn’t comply.” He said, “I also ran into Tulip’s lawyer while I was coming out… she had to officially discourage me from meeting with him but unofficially stated she was happy that there was someone in Tulip’s corner ready to do what was necessary.”
“More than one someone.” Bradley said, “What are your thoughts man… is she safe tomorrow when we’re at work?”
“I don’t know.” He sighed, “I guess we wait and see what the lawyer says when she calls.”
“Hey Jakey, when did you get home?” You asked, walking into the living room, having gotten Gracie settled.
“Just a few minutes ago.” He replied, “Princess G in dreamland?”
“Yeah, she went right to sleep.” You laughed, “Bradley wore her out.”
“She wore ME out!” He said, chuckling, “I’m more tired now than when I spend all morning flying maneuvers!”
“That girl does have a lot of energy.” Jake agreed laughing, “Tulip, I’ll be out tonight so no need to count on me for dinner. Taking Nat on a date.”
“It’s about damn time, Jakey!” You exclaimed! “But, as I was just telling Bradley before Gracie’s nap, I’ll still make enough so that there’s leftovers for lunches.”
“Tulip, I never turn down your cooking.” Jake smiled, “Especially when it saves me from having to eat soggy sandwiches or my own cooking.”
“See?” You asked, looking pointedly at Bradley, “See how easy it is just to accept the food without a fuss?”
“I just didn’t wanna make more work for you, Sweetheart!” Bradley defended himself, putting his hands up in surrender. “I promise, no more arguments, I’ll accept any and all meals.”
“Rookie mistake, Rooster.” Jake laughed, “Tulip is a natural mother hen. She always has been. Hey… maybe that’s why y’all are so perfect for one another.”
“Now that is something I can agree with and not argue with.” Bradley said, winking over at you. You could feel heat rushing over you.
Later that day, while Bradley and Gracie were playing in the yard, Jake was getting ready for his date, and you were making dinner, your phone rang. Wiping your hands on the towel, you saw that it was Lauren calling. You took a deep breath, and answered.
“Hi, Lauren,” You said, your voice somewhat shaky. “Please tell me you've got good news.”
“I’m sorry it took so long to get back to you with some answers.” She replied, “They’re releasing him on a cash bond  as we speak with an order to appear before a judge for breaking the order of protection. That being said, he was reminded… by several people… that he needs to stay away from you and from Gracie or he will be put back in jail and not allowed out on a bond the next time.”
“When does he appear before the judge?” You asked, trying no to panic.  “I would feel so much better if he was back in Texas.”
“He has a court appearance on Tuesday morning.” She said, “I will be there on your behalf. In regards to the divorce and him relinquishing his parental rights, I was in touch with his lawyer right  before I called you and it looks like he’s still dragging his feet but I made it known that I will be filing a petition for a hearing to move forward with a judge in light of the recent events. I promise you, Y/N, I will have you free of this man as soon as I possibly can.”
“Thank you for all that you are doing.” You replied, mind wandering, you were scared your life would just be like this now… where you would always be in fear of him popping up.
“Y/N, I want to caution you, while he has been warned of what will happen if he comes near you again, it really is in your best interest to not be on your own for the time being.” Lauren said gently. “I reminded Jake of the same thing earlier, he said he didn’t plan on you being on your own, but I always feel better reiterating to my clients that these situations are volatile and men like Trent are not predictable or reasonable.”
“Jake?” You asked, confused, “When did you talk to Jake?”
“He was at the station this morning.” She said, “Although on the record I had to caution him against meeting with Trent and threatening him, off the record I definitely applaud him for protecting his sister.”
“I didn’t know he’d gone down there.” You replied, “That can’t come back against Jake can it? I don’t want him hurt by any of this.”
“No. Even if Trent tried to cry foul, there were cameras and witnesses and there’d be nobody to back up Trent’s side.” She assured you. “But, it might be a good idea to caution him against further altercations.”
“I will.” You replied, “Thank you for calling.”
After hanging up you stood with your hands braced on the counter, head down, focusing solely on dragging air in and out of your lungs. If you allowed yourself to think of anything other than simply breathing you knew you would end up having a massive panic attack.
“Hey Tulip, it smells amazing in here.” Jake said, popping into the kitchen and grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge, “I’ll definitely be looking forward to leftovers for lunch tomorrow.”
Unable to respond, you simply nodded, your gaze remaining locked on the counter.
“Tulip…” Jake said, concern creeping into this voice, “Is everything ok? Y/N? Talk to me. What’s wrong?”
The dam holding back your emotions broke. A sob worked its way up and out, then another, releasing a barrage of tears along with it. Jake set the bottle on the counter and instantly engulfed you into his arms, holding you tightly to him, as if he held you tight enough he could keep you from breaking further.
“It’s ok, I’ve got you.” He whispered, resting his chin on top of your head, his hand rubbing circles over your back, while his other just held you tightly. “Just keep breathing, Sweet Girl. Let it all out.”
He simply stood, swaying gently with you back and forth, letting the storm wash over you. He was freaking out on the inside, going through all the possible scenarios of what made you break, none of them good. On the outside, he was doing all he could to just be your rock and to be strong while you couldn’t be.
After a few minutes, the tears slow and you’re able to regain your ability to breathe. Jake, sensing some of the tension and rigidness leaving your body, tilted his head to look down at you.
“Wanna tell me what happened, Tulip?” He asked. “I’m assuming maybe your lawyer called…or it all just really caught up with you. Maybe both?”
“Lauren called.” You whispered. “He’s being released on a cash bond. He has to stay in the area until at least Tuesday to appear before a judge.”
“I promise you he will not get near you.” Jake insisted, “Tulip, I will take all of the leave I have on the books if I need to in order to keep you and Gracie safe.”
“Jake…” You started to protest, but were interrupted when Bradley came in to get Gracie some juice.
“And when his is exhausted, I’ll use all of mine, Sweetheart.” He said without missing a beat. “I’m going to get Gracie her juice quick and I’ll sit with her while you two talk. We’ll talk while Jake is on his date with Phoenix.”
He dropped a soft kiss on the back of your head on his way past, leaving you and Jake alone in the kitchen once more.
“What else did she say?” Jake asked.
“Well she apparently saw YOU today, Jake.” You said, stepping back and eyeing your brother. “I love you and I love that you’re trying to protect us but I think someone needs to protect YOU! I do not want you to ruin your career or get into trouble for him. He is not worth it Jake. Promise me you’ll stay away from him?”
“I can’t make that promise, Tulip.” Jake said, “If he’s a threat to you and Gracie I will stand between you and him Every. Single. Time.  I can promise nothing I do to him will interfere with my career and I won’t end up in jail over him. What did Lauren say about the divorce and getting that piece of shit to sign away parental rights? I was pretty clear about what I expected to happen.”
“Well, apparently Trent isn’t very smart because he’s still dragging his feet on that.” You sighed, “I can’t live like this forever, Jakey. I want to be able to fully move on with  my life and be openly with Bradley, without feeling like we’re doing something wrong… or potentially getting HIM kicked out of the Navy.”
“Is there anything Lauren can do there?” He asked, “But I promise you, you won’t live like this forever, Tulip. Eventually, something has to give. Also, Rooster will not be kicked out of the Navy” He chuckled at the last part.
“She told his lawyer she’s filing a petition for a hearing to move forward with a judge.” You said, “Hopefully if we get before a judge and she lays it all out, they’ll just order the marriage to be dissolved and his parental rights to be revoked at the same time… but my luck hasn’t exactly been the greatest on that front.”
“Any judge will look at what’s been happening and will dissolve the marriage and will end his parental rights, Tulip.”  Jake assured you. “Just keep some faith, sweets.”
“I’ll try.” You promised, “I got your shirt all wet, and you need to get going to meet Nat.”
“I’ve got plenty of time.” Jake assured you, “I gave myself a little extra room for getting ready because…honestly… I’m a little nervous.”
“Jakey, it’ll be fine.” You promised, offering him a reassuring smile. “You’re both half in love with each other anyway, this date isn’t going to go badly. I promise.”
“I just can’t screw this up.” Jake said. “This time, it matters… SHE matters.”
“You won’t.” You said confidently. “Go change your shirt. Take a deep breath. Knock her socks off… but not literally, it’s your first official date.”
“I love you, Tulip.” He said, hugging you tightly once more. “Enjoy tonight with Bradley and Gracie. Don’t worry about what tomorrow will bring. We’ll figure it out tomorrow.”
“I love you too, Jakey.” You replied.
Jake left for his date with Nat a while later. You’d finished making dinner while Bradley played with Gracie. After dinner you gave Gracie a bath while he cleaned up the kitchen, packaging up leftovers into the fridge. Before tucking Gracie into bed for the night the three of you watched a Disney movie on the couch and then read books, taking turns, until Gracie started to fall asleep between you two. After tucking her in, you and Bradley sat and you opened up about what had happened earlier. The phone call with the lawyer and your breakdown in the kitchen. You communicated your fears about him being with you causing problems for him with the Navy as technically as far as the military was concerned separated or not you were in fact still married, and it was against regulations, punishable by jail time and even discharge from service, to be in a relationship with someone already married. Bradley was very quick to reassure your fears and promise his career was not in jeopardy.
“Sweetheart, if it makes you more comfortable we can take a step back and take this much slower until your divorce is finalized.” He offered, “I don’t want us to do anything that it’s 100% something you’re on board with. I know we talked about going slow but then this thing between us… the pull… is really strong… and then everything happened with Trent showing up… I just…. We’ll do whatever you want us to do.”
“I don’t know that we can slow this down or control it.” You reasoned, “I AM comfortable, Bradley. I feel safe with you. I’ve only ever felt safe with Jak before. I WANT to be with you. I just know that I couldn’t live with myself if being with me hurt you. I care about you too much already. But if you’re sure that you won’t get in trouble and you want to be with me then I am all in. We’re all in… because obviously Gracie and I are a package deal.”
“The perfect package, Sweetheart.” He said, a wide smile spreading across his face. He pulled you against him, dipping his head down to capture your lips with his own in a soft and tender kiss.
***
Penny closed the bar on Monday for inventory, you’d gone in to help her and Ameliak who’d had off of school had come in to help keep an eye on Gracie. Tuesday, the weather ended up grounding flights so Jake had gotten permission for you and Gracie to spend the day on base in the rec room while they were in and out of the classrooms.
Lauren had called to let you know that Trent had appeared in court and his lawyer had actually flown in from Texas to appear with him. He’d been given a $2000 fine and one year probation. In addition Lauren had been able to meet with his lawyer and let him know that the request for a hearing had been approved and was scheduled for two weeks from that appearance. You were hoping that it would all be over then, but you were waiting for the other shoe to drop.
“I’ll put in for emergency leave the remainder of this week.” Jake said, while everyone was together at lunch. “I’m not taking any chances, and as much fun as Gracie is having hanging out here, this isn’t the best solution.”
“I’ll put in a leave request for next week.” Bradley said quietly, his hand tracing over yours where they were joined, resting between you. His other arm holding Gracie, who was laying against him, fighting to stay awake.
“I’ll cover the following week.” Nat said, sitting down next to Jake, much closer than she normally would have, and not going unnoticed by anyone. He looked over, smiling warmly at her, not even trying to hide his feelings.
“I’ll make sure Admiral Simpson approves all of the requests.” Mav said from the doorway. “I’ll fill him in. It shouldn’t be a problem.”
“Consider the rest of us Dagger Spare.” Coyote said. “Anything goes south, one group text and we all come running.”
“I don’t even know what to say.” You whispered, unable to actually voice any words. Tears filled your eyes at the outpouring of love they were showing you. “I’ll keep feeding you all.” That garnished several chuckles from the team.
The rest of the week went by uneventfully. Jake was home during the day with you and Gracie, which she absolutely loved because it meant lots of play time with Uncle Jakey. In the evenings Bradley would end up at the house spending time with you and Gracie, to the point Jake jokingly suggested he just move in. Jake took advantage of Bradley being around though and would go out at night to spend time with Nat. They went out on another formal date on Wednesday night, and she cooked dinner at her place for Jake on Thursday. You were happy that things were going well for them.
“We need to go to the store today, Jake.” You said, Friday morning as you were getting breakfast ready so Bradley could eat before leaving for base. He was currently in the shower and Gracie was still sleeping since it was early. Jake had just gotten back from a morning run, unable to sleep in, even though he was off. “We’re outta mostly everything and I need to get stuff to make dinner for everyone tonight. I’m thinking barbeque again. I want to make a chocolate cake too for dessert.”
“That sounds good. We can go after Princess G is up and dressed.” He said, “Maybe stop at the park first and let her play. We need to build her a playset in the backyard.”
“Jakey, you’re not building her a playset.” You laughed, “She’s not even 3 years old. The most she needs is one of those plastic playskool slides or a swing to hang from a tree.”
“Tulip, do you see a tree that will hold a swing out there?” He asked, “My Princess G needs a whole ass playset… with a playhouse… a CASTLE playhouse! That has a swing AND a slide on it.”
“Absolutely not.” You vetoed,  “First of all, it would take up your whole back yard, secondly, it’s way too expensive, thirdly she’s too little, and finally… just no.”
“Uh oh,” Bradley said, walking in wearing his flight suit, the top undone and tied around his waist. “What’s she tellin’ ya ‘no’ to?”
“You’ll back me up on this one!” Jake insisted confidently, “Tulip is saying Princess G can’t have a playset that has a Castle playhouse and swing and slide. She NEEDS one in the backyard, doesn’t she?”
“I mean, it WOULD be really cool” Bradley said, “A princess needs a castle, and every little kid needs a playset.”
“She isn’t even THREE yet!” You insisted, rolling your eyes at both of them.
“She WILL be.” Jake said, latching on to that, “Actually, she will be VERY soon. We need to start planning that. So I’m gonna go ahead and find her the playset of her little dreams and that’s gonna be her birthday present from Uncle Jakey.”
“I’ll go in on that with you, man.” Bradley said, winking at you. “Princess needs her castle.”
“I can’t with you two.” You said, throwing your hands up and turning to finish making breakfast.  “When she’s spoiled beyond reason, I will blame the pair of you!”
“Fair enough.” They agreed.
Later that night the whole squad descended on the house for dinner. Everyone was out in the backyard since the weather had finally broken and was beautiful. Gracie was in her element playing with her adopted uncle and aunt. Jake was at the grill, making sure the meat didn’t burn while you made sure everything else was prepared. Most of the sides were on the table. You just needed to go inside to finish icing the cake and to grab some of the remaining condiments for the table.
“I’ll be right back.” You told Bradley, standing on tiptoe to steal a quick kiss, “I need to finish the cake and grab condiments quickly.”
“Need any help?” He asked.
“No, it’s ok.” You smiled. “Stay and relax. I’ll be right back out.” You headed inside and to the kitchen. The icing was already made so all you needed to do was assemble the cake on the platter and apply the icing.
You were pulling the spatula from the drawer when the doorbell rang. You set down the utensil and wiped your hands before heading to the front door, assuming it was another one of Jake’s friends or someone from the base.
Opening the door you immediately regretted your decision but before you could slam the door, a foot was blocking it, a hand shooting in to grip your arm hard. Trent had dared to show up once more.
“Let. Go. Of. Me.” You seethed. “You shouldn’t even BE here. You need to leave.”
“Oh, I’m not going anywhere.” He slurred, clearly having been drinking. “You’re goin’ to go get the brat and we’re goin’ to go back to Texas.”
“You’ve lost your mind, Trent.” You said, fear spiking, “We’re not going anywhere with you.”
“I own you and the kid.” He answered, gripping your arm tighter, by now definitely leaving bruises. “I’ve had enough of this bullshit and you whoring around. You best believe when I get you back to Texas you will NEVER see your brother or anyone you hold dear again.”
“Let go, Trent.” You begged, “You’re hurting me.”
“Not yet I’m not.” He promised, “But I will be soon. Go get the little brat. And if you tip off any of those mindless flyboy goons out there, I swear to you, I will make you regret being born.”
Unbeknownst to you, while Trent was threatening you, Phoenix had brought Gracie in to help her use her potty, as she’d just started to potty train that week. Realizing what was happening she quickly kneeled down to get eye level with the little girl.
“Gracie,” She whispered, “I need you to run outside and get Uncle Jakey and Rooster really fast and tell them Mommy needs them inside ok? Can you do that?”
“Yes!” She said, her eyes wide in fear, knowing something bad was happening. She turned and ran back out the backdoor to do as Auntie Nix had asked.
Phoenix immediately charged towards the front of the house in time to hear Trent making his threats.
“Take your fucking hands off her your piece of dog shit pond scum bottom feeder.” She yelled, immediately grabbing hold of his arm and using his shock and at her entrance to break his hold on you. She placed herself between the two of you. “You were given fair warning the last time you came not to make the mistake again. You were also told what would happen if you did. You will be fucking lucky if there is enough for the police to even pick up this time dickhead. Newsflash… We are ALL here this time.”
“You think I’m afraid of some wannabe pilot bitch that I could literally punt across the yard?” Trent asked, recovering from his initial shock.  You saw Natasha’s whole body tense, anger radiating off of her. Trent had made a gross miscalculation in underestimating your new friend.
She didn’t even give him the satisfaction of a verbal comeback or any warning. She simply drew her arm back and let loose with all of the power she had in her entire body. She put all of the fury she had toward him for daring to threaten her friend and an innocent child, she harnessed the fury of all of the times someone had underestimate her because she was a female, and she unleashed it all in a single uppercut to Trent’s jaw, sending his head backwards, knocking him off balance. Not wanting to allow him time to recover, you used your self-defense training and sent your knee flying straight into his groin, effectively disabling him for the time being until backup arrived. You knew they’d be arriving any second.
At that moment absolute chaos broke out. The entire Dagger squad, led by Jake and Bradley came flying into the room with pure fury on all of their faces. Mav had his phone to his ear on the line with 9-1-1. Jake, seeing Nat holding her fist and Trent on the floor in the fetal position, cradling his jaw, immediately looked back to Nat to see she was ok.
“Are you hurt?” He asked,  barely able to control the rage running through his veins.
“No, I’m good.” She said, “It was worth the bruised knuckles. The fucker had his hands on Y/N.”
“Sweetheart, are you Ok?” Bradley asked, his heart in his throat, pure fear, like he’d never felt before coursing through him. He ran his hands over you, checking for injuries before his eyes dropped to the angry red marks on your arms where’d grabbed you. Bruises were already forming. In that moment all of the fear turned to absolute white hot rage that the man had dared to harm the woman he loved.
“I’m ok.” You whispered, shaking from the adrenaline. “Bradley, please… I’m ok.”
Jake, seemingly just registering that Nat had said Trent put hands on you, lunged forward, leaning down to grab the man and hoisted him up in one swift move.
“I fucking warned you that if you came near her again or if you fucking hurt her, there would be nothing for the cops to come and collect.” Jake said, his voice deeper and angrier than you’d ever heard it before. “I promised my baby sister I would keep her safe… you came into my home and fucking put hands on my sister in a place she should feel safe.”
He started walking out the front door with him, Trent’s feet not touching the floor. The rest of the Squad followed him out.
“Bradley, please don’t let him kill him.” You begged, sobbing “I can’t lose Jake. He’s not worth it. Please.”
“He won’t kill him, Baby.” He soothed, his voice still rough. You knew he wanted to be out there beating the shit out of Trent.  Instead, he was in here, holding you tightly, his hands rubbing circles on your back. “Mav won’t let him. Nat won’t let him. They’ll just let him rough him up some more. He needs to do something… you know your brother.”
“Gracie!” You exclaimed, your thoughts suddenly clearing, “Where’s my baby? He was going to take her! He was going to take us both and said he’d make sure I never saw any of you again.” Saying it outloud caused the last of your hold on your emotions to slip and you dissolved into sobs, collapsing completely into Bradley’s hold.
“Shhh” Bradley soothed, “Baby, it’s ok. She’s with Bob. He has her outside. He won’t let anyone hurt her. She’s safe. You’re safe. Nobody is taking either of my girls anywhere.” He picked you up and carried you to the couch sitting down and holding you against him, rocking you as you cried. “I’ve got you, Angel. I promise you it’s all over now. You’re safe.”
Flashing lights appeared outside of your window for the second time in as many weeks. The neighbors were going to really start to hate you. Bradley continued to hold you close while the police took care of once more arresting Trent and questioning Jake and everyone involved outside before coming inside.
“Tulip” Jake said gently, sitting down next to where Bradley held you on the couch, “The officers need to take your statement, Sweet Girl.”
You nodded, scooting off Bradley’s lap to sit between them on the couch.
“Ma’am, can you walk us through what happened this evening?” The officer asked gently.
“We were cooking out like we do every Friday as a family and I needed to finish the cake. I came inside to do that and the doorbell rang.” You said softly, “I figured it was another one of Jake’s friends or maybe Penny and answered the door without looking. I know that was stupid. As soon as I realized it was Trent I tried to slam the door, but he shoved his foot to block the door then grabbed my arm and pushed his way in. He wouldn’t let go. He said Gracie and I belonged to him and he was going to take us back to Texas…that we’d never see Jake or any of our friends or family again. He wouldn’t let go of me, I couldn’t get out of his grip. He told me to go out back to get Gracie and that if I let on that he was there he’d make me regret that I’d ever been born.”
You paused for a moment to take a deep breath and collect your thoughts. Bradley had his arm around you, his hand in your hair, soothing you. Jake held your other hand, squeezing three times letting you know he loved you.
“Right when he threatened that is when Nat came in and was able to get him to let me go. She got between us and when he threatened to throw her across the yard she damn near knocked him out with an uppercut to the jaw. While he was stunned I kneed him in the groin to put him down and that’s when everyone else came in and got him out of the house.” You finished. You glanced at Jake who was looking at Phoenix with what could only be described as heart eyes, drawing a tiny smile from you.
“We’re already aware that he is in violation of an order of protection for a second time in addition to the probation he was just put on for violating the order the first time.” The officer said. “I am confident he will not be given the option of a cash bond this time and will have to sit for a court appearance. This time he will be looking at mandatory jail time. I’m assuming you have an attorney, you should give them a call as soon as possible to let them know the situation. In the meantime, is it for use to take pictures of your arm and wrist for evidence?”
“Yes.” You said, agreeing to anything that will help to get Trent out of your life for good. The officer had you turn your arm over and took several photos with his phone. He gave you his card and told you if you had any questions or concerns to feel free to give him a call.
Once the officers left, the rest of the squad came back inside, shutting  and locking the door behind them.
Bob came in with Gracie from the back, carrying a platter with the meat from the grill.
“We managed to keep it from burning in case anyone was hungry.” Bob said, “Princess Gracie makes a wonderful helper.”
Coyote reached for the platter and carried it to the kitchen, the rest of the group going out back to get the rest of the stuff cleaned up.
“Mommy, you otay?” Gracie asked, coming over to the couch. Jake lifted her into his lap so she was close.
“I’m ok, Baby Girl.” You said, tearfully, reaching for your daughter and hugging her to you tightly. She wrapped her little arms around your neck, knowing you needed her hugs. She was too little to understand what had happened but she knew something had happened and that it had been scary.  Bradley reached over and smoothed the curls on Gracie’s head where it rested on your shoulder. It scared him to think how close he’d come to losing these two girls tonight. Had Phoenix not come inside when she did and sent Gracie out to get them, the evening could have had a completely different outcome.
“I wuv you Mommy.” Gracie whispered into your shoulder.
“I love you too, Gracie.” You replied, “So so very much.”
She lifted her head and looked at Bradley, reaching one of her hands out to him. He took it, smiling at her, leaning in to kiss the top of her little head.
“OK, I think we need to take a raincheck on dinner night.” Mav said, coming from the kitchen. “We put the food up into the fridge and got everything cleaned up in there. If you guys need anything, call.”
“Thank you, Mav.” Jake said, “For everything.”
“No thanks needed.” He replied. “I’m glad we were all here.”
“Me too.” Jake replied.
“Call us tomorrow if you all feel up to it and maybe we can have a beach day with this sweet little Princess.” Coyote suggested,  “A little fun might do everyone some good.”
“That sounds wonderful, Javy.” You said softly, smiling up at him. “I agree… fun would be nice.”
“Do you need anything tonight?” Bob asked.
“We’re good, man.” Jake replied, “Thank you for keeping Gracie safe.”
“Of course.” He replied.
Once everyone had gone, Jake got up to make ice packs for Phoenix’s hand and your arm. Bradley got Gracie some dinner and gave her a bath for you while you iced the bruised arm and called Lauren.
She said she'd push for the maximum sentence this time and ask if the hearing could be moved up. You said as long as he was in custody without the chance of getting out, you could wait the two weeks, but if she COULD work miracles and get it moved up you wouldn’t say no.
After getting off the phone with her you reheated some dinner so everyone could eat if they were hungry. You didn’t have much of an appetite but knew you needed to eat something. You carried plates to the living room, setting them down on the coffee table. You smiled at your brother and Phoenix. He had her perched on his lap, while she iced her bruised knuckles.
“Your girlfriend has a pretty fierce uppercut, Jake.” You smirked, “Don’t do anything to piss her off.”
“Oh, I’ve always had a healthy fear of this one, Tulip.” He said smiling at Phoenix, “She’s fierce. Talented. Beautiful. So damn smart. Best damn pilot. I respect the hell outta her.”
“Why were you always giving me such a hard time then?” She asked, a smile lighting up her face at Jake’s words.
“Because you scared the shit outta me.” He admitted, “I knew how fast and completely I’d fall for you if I let myself and honestly, you’re so far outta my league Nix… I didn’t think I ever stood a chance.”
“Jake, you’re an idiot.” She laughed, “I had the biggest crush on you the moment we met… even when you were acting like an asshole, I still liked you… which just pissed me off. I’m glad you finally came to your senses.”
“Well… THAT…” He said, “Is another thing we can thank my sweet baby sister for. She saw right through me the first day I had you all over here. She told me to STOP being an idiot and ask you out.”
“I had ulterior motives.” You shrugged. “I wanted a badass bestie as my future sister in law.”
“She is a badass, isn’t she.” Jake said proudly. “My beautiful badass girlfriend.”
“Girlfriend, huh?” Phoenix questioned, smiling at Jake. “Guess that means you wanna be my boyfriend?”
“So so much.” He replied, smiling back.
“You two are adorable.” You laughed, getting up to head to Gracie’s room. “I’m going to go find my daughter and Bradley now.”
“Speaking of adorable.” Phoenix called after you. You laughed, continuing to walk. She wasn’t wrong. The bond your daughter had with Bradley WAS adorable.
You found the pair in your room. Bradley was laid out on your  bed with Gracie snuggled up on him while he read her a book about a princess. You stood in the doorway taking it in, letting the stress and terror from the evening wash away from you.
“Hey, Beautiful, wanna come join us?” Bradley asked, seeing you standing there. You smiled, walking into the room and sliding into the bed, cuddling into him. He relaxed even more, as having both of his girls in his arms felt amazing. He turned his head to kiss your forehead before continuing to read Gracie’s book.
When he reached the end of the book, he expected Gracie to be asleep, but the little girl was just relaxed and content to lay in his arms where she felt safe.
After a minute she looked at you  then up at Bradley, smiling she crawled up so she could reach him and kissed Bradley’s cheek.
“I wuv you Daddy Woosta.” She declared before settling herself back down onto his chest and laying her head against his heart as if she hadn’t just dropped the biggest love bomb on the man. His heart exploded in his chest, happiness radiating into every part of his body. At that moment he didn't think anything had ever made him happier.  He froze then, unsure what to do or what to say. What did you want him to do?
He looked at you quickly to see your reaction. Relief flooded him when he saw pure happiness on your face and tears in your eyes. He instantly relaxed and he used the arm holding Gracie to pull her closer to him, turning his head to kiss her forehead.
“I love you too, my little Princess. So So So much.” He told her, his voice thick with emotion, tears forming in his own eyes  “I will forever and always love you.”
“Mommy, I sweepy.” Gracie yawned, “I go my bed now? You and Daddy Woosta take me night-night?”
“Yes, Baby Girl.” You said, “We can tuck you in. Do you want to go say goodnight to Uncle Jakey and Aunty Nix first?”
“Yes!” She crawled over everyone to jump down from the bed and head out on her own to the living room leaving you and Bradley in the room alone for a moment.
“Are you OK with your new title?” You asked, standing up from the bed. You were already pretty sure of his response, but needed confirmation.
“Sweetheart, I can’t even tell you how incredible that was.” He said, a smile spreading across his face again. “That is a title I am absolutely honored to hold if YOU’RE ok with her calling me that.”
“Bradley you’re everything I’ve always dreamed of and wished for in a father for her… but you’re even more.” You said. “Gracie would be the luckiest girl in the world to have you as her Daddy.”
“I was so scared, Sweetheart.” He admitted. “When Gracie came out and said you needed us and Nix sent her out… I knew something was wrong. Then when said he planned to take you and Gracie… Fuck… Sweetheart had we been any longer and it’d have been too late. I could have lost my girls. I don’t ever want to be without either of you. Life is so much better with you in it. It’s brighter. I can’t go back to life without you.”
“I was scared of never seeing you again. Of being back in Texas and trapped in hell with Trent.” You said, “You make me happy Bradley. I feel safe with you. You make Gracie happy and she adores you. You’ve become a huge part of our world and I kinda wanna keep you.”
“That’s great to hear, Sweetheart.” He smiled, pulling you into his arms. “Because I DEFINITELY wanna keep you both.”
Once Gracie was tucked in, you and Bradley joined Jake and Phoenix in the living room to watch a movie and decompress from the day. It wasn’t how you’d pictured the day going, but in the end some good had come from it. Trent would not be a threat, for the time being at least, and from what Lauren said, this would pretty much guarantee your divorce being granted and his parental rights being stripped. You’d happily deal with a few bruises and moments of fear if that was the outcome.
Later, the movie finished and everyone turned in, you were cuddled in bed with Bradley, your head pillowed on his chest, your limbs tangled, arms wrapped around one another. It was exactly what both of you needed after the emotional evening. Bradley listened as your breathing evened out and you’d fallen asleep.
“I love you, Sweetheart.” He whispered, his fingers gently stroking your hair, until he too drifted off to sleep.
A/N: PHEW! What do we think???? That was an emotional rollercoaster. More to come!!

Black Clover Next Generation II ♣️💘
Family Tree of House Silva
Tumblr media
Yes, the Silva were productive... I am biased, obviously^^'
Nymphea and Valentina are twins, with Nymphea being the older one by three minutes. She is more like Nozel personality wise, while Valentina took more after Vanessa. They still got from the other parent, though.
It is a coincidence that they have the same initials as their parents... Nymphea and Valentina were also born on Valentine's Day^^'
Lavinia is the second child of Nozel and Vanessa, also very shy. She doesn't want to be a Magic Knight, finding more happiness in music and songs.
Cassandra was a surprise child, three years after Lavinia, but loved nonetheless. She is the wildest out of her sisters, if there is harshness in the Silva genpool, she got all of it. Cassandra also calls Yami uncle Dumpy.
Diego, Odette, Nebel and Zinnia are quadruplets. Which was a surprised to everyone. Diego and Zinnia are true wild pranksters, mini-versions of their parents, while Odette and Nebel are more calm, almost a miracle given who Nebra and Zora are.
Mathilda came many years later, as a surprise child. Nebra thought that she was done after giving birth to four babies at once, but she was very relieved that it was only one this time. Mathildas birth was also pretty fast, roughly twenty minutes.
The quadruplets are very protective of their baby sister, but baby Mathilda is going to be more a problem child than Diego, Zinnia and her parents together^^'
Eis is the first born of Solid and Rosette. He almost gave his parents and the midwives a scare because he didn't cried immediately when he was born.
Nanthilde is his sister, born four years later. Since she learned how to read, she had a soft spot for riddles and mysteries.
Both Eis and Nanthilde are very kind, like their mother. As much as their father was a brat in his youth, as much they are well-behaved. Solid is actually relieved they don't come too much after him personality wise.
Loreleï is the only daughter of Asta and Noelle. She was born a few days after Eis, which made them best friends since they were babies. Like her cousin Lavinia, she also doesn't want to become a Magic Knight, despite having her mother's amount of magic power.
Her brothers are much younger than her. Airgid is as wild as Asta with Noelles pride, a bit of a brat, but with a heart of of gold.
Nemo is the youngest, wild like his brother but kinder.
Fun fact, both Noelle and Asta were awful at giving names, even for their own children. Nozessa, Zobra and Sosette had to help them on that topic... which wasn't an easy task, but funny.
Nymphea has long silver hair like her father's, wavy like her mother's and Vanessas amethyst purple eyes, she has Silver magic. Valentina has the same eyes as her twin, but long straight hair like her grandmother, in a paler shade of Vanessas rosewood color, her magic is Tapestry. Lavinia has her mother's hair color, but the silky and thick structure of her father's (she wears them in two braids), she also has Nozels metallic lilac eyes, she got Vanessas Thread magic. Cassandra has silver hair, but very wild, a bit of mix of her parents and lavender purple eyes, her magic is Swords... given her wildness, it can be a stress factor for Nozel, one only Vanessa can calm him from.
Diego has his father strong red hair and also his deep blue eyes, looking like a mini-Zora, he has Spark magic. Odette has her mother's silver hair color, very wavy almost curly and like Diego, the eyes of her father, her magic is Cloud. Nebel's hair got a color mixed from his parents, with Nebra's gene a bit stronger, a pale pink, long and straight, his eyes are also a mix of his parents, a strong purple and like his name suggests, he got his mother's Mist magic. Zinnia has also pink hair, but unlike Nebel, her's are a stronger pink and are Wilde like Nebras, she also got her mother's magenta eyes, add to all of this Smoke magic. Mathilda has her father's red hair, pretty wild as well, and her mother's magenta eyes (a heavy contrast) and she got Water magic.
Eis has his mother's straight white blonde hair, which he wears short, his father blue eyes and like his name suggests, his magic is Ice. Nanthilde has curly hair, silver like Solid and Rosettes pale grey eyes (which got her the nickname Most Silver Silva), she got her mother's glass magic.
All of Astelle's children have water-based affinities (personal headcanon that Astas condition is not hereditary). Loreleï has her mother's straight long silver hair (unlike Noelle, she has her hair down most of the time) and her father's bright green eyes, her magic is Snow. Airgid has Astas wild ash blonde hair but wears it shoulder length and Noelles magenta eyes, he has Water magic like his mother. Nemo has silver hair but the same hairstyle like his father and also his mother's magenta eyes, his magic is Mist.

Tumblr media
When you decided to move down to San Diego to be closer to your older brother Pete and his best friend (your honorary brother) Goose, you never imagined you would fall in love with their number one rival.
Tom “Iceman” Kazansky.
From the moment your eyes locked with his dazzling blue eyes you knew you were in trouble, your relationship started quickly.
Luckily you had your own apartment only 10 minutes away from Top Gun so that made your secret meetings easier to pull off, it started strictly physical. You had great sex, Tom knew how to please a woman and often has so much stress and agitation in his amazing body that you let him take it out on you.
But after a few weeks your relationship developed into more, quick hookups became slow. They turned into caressing your bare bodies memorizing every inch of the other, soft passionate kisses that said so much more than words ever could.
It was after you two had sex, that time when you laid together in each other’s embrace when you realized you felt so much more than pure sexual attraction towards the man next to you. You felt love.
“What’s going on in that pretty head of yours darling?” Tom asked from his spot behind you, he had you pulled back against his chest one hand resting around your body tickling your stomach just the way you liked it as it sent goosebumps up your body his other hand resting on your breast gently rolling your stiff nipple in between his fingers as he placed light kisses on your neck.
“Just thinking.” You said reaching one arm behind you to play with Tom’s soft blonde hair
“About what? How amazing I made your pretty little body feel?” Tom asked with a shit eating grin making you giggle and smack his hand that was playing with your breast
“Cocky much?” You asked before squealing when Tom pinched your nipple between his fingers
“You know it baby.” Tom said rolling you onto your back so he could see your blissed expression, you two had already went 2 rounds tonight and the thought of going a third made tingles spread through your stomach and down to your clit. “Your so beautiful. My beautiful girl.”
You smiled when Tom called you his beautiful girl, you wanted more than anything to be his and only his for the rest of your life. No one had ever made you feel as good sexually or emotionally then Tom, he made you feel safe and cared for like you were the only girl in the world.
“I think I love you Tommy.” You whispered deciding to bite the bullet and say what you feel
Tom paused and his gaze moved from where he had been admiring the way your stomach would clench every time he ran his finger along your faint ab lines. He studied your face looking for any sign of a lie.
“You better not be messing with me Y/N.” Tom said running his hands up your body and stopping to cup your face as he leaned on-top of you. “Because if you are I will make sure you can’t sit for a week.”
You blushed at the idea of Tom spanking you, he quickly became the dom in your relationship especially in the bed room. Spanking your ass raw as a punishment was nothing new to you.
“I’m not lying Tommy. You make me feel things no one has ever made me feel before, and not just during sex but when we talk and when you hold the door for me, or walk with your arm around my waist, when you make me walk on the side furthest from the road, when you make me dance with you on the beach, when you take a bath with me and tell me how I’m so perfect and beautiful, and especially when you call me yours. You make me feel so loved and I want to do the same for you because I love you.” You said with a shy smile as you brought your hand up to rest on his cheek
“God I love you too baby. So much.” Tom said pulling you into a passionate kiss
“Show me. Show me how much you love me.” You gasped pulling away from the kiss
Immediately you were being pinned to the bed with both hands above your head, Tom used one of his hands to keep you in place while his other hand moved down your body and stopped at your breasts.
“You move your hands and I stop. Got it?” Tom said and you nodded desperately. “Words baby.”
“Yes sir.” You said and Tom smirked
“Good.” Tom said before dropping your hands and using both of his to kneed your tender breasts, next to your ass your breasts were his favorite body part the way they fit so perfectly into his hands and were so responsive.
Tom brought his head down and sucked your left nippled into his mouth while his other hand squeezed your right nipple hard enough to make you moan out in pleasure, Tom gently encased your nipple with his teeth and barely bit down making you gasp and run your fingers through his hair.
“That’s right, run your fingers through my hair. Show me how much you like it.” Tom said switching to suck on your other nipple
“More. Please more Tommy.” You begged feeling your pussy grow wet and your clit began that familiar tingle
“I’ve got you baby.” Tom said leaving a kiss on your breasts before crawling down your body and stopping between your legs, Tom used his hands to pry your legs open. He marveled at the sight of your wet swollen pussy, your whole body felt like it was buzzing as he leaned close and blew on your sensitive parts.
“Tommy.” You whined grabbing onto his hair making him chuckle
“What do you want baby?” Tom asked turning his head to kiss your inner thigh
“Your mouth. Please.” You begged arching your back
“Ok baby. You want me to eat this pretty little pussy? Want me to make your squirt all over my face and hold you down while I clean you up?” Tom asked and you felt like you passed out from the vulgarity of his words. “Answer me.”
“Yes sir. Please eat my pussy, I need it.” You whined bucking your hips up towards his face
“Ok, lay back I’ve got you.” Tom said holding your hips down with his forearms before using his fingers to spread your pussy lips apart, groaning as he watched your hold clench around nothing. “God baby, the prettiest little pussy I’ve ever seen.”
Tom dove into your cunt and you almost screamed as pleasure coursed through your pussy, he licked from your hole up to your clit and took your sensitive little bud into his mouth sucking it hard making you whine. Tom shook his head back as forth allowing himself to sink deeper into your cunt as he ate you out like it was his last meal, he nibbled on your clit making you arch your back and claw at his hair.
“Tom. Oh god, I’m going to cum.” You mumbled as you felt Tom slip two fingers into your hole the stretch made you whimper as Tom kept sucking and licking at your clit
“I know baby, your so sensitive aren’t you. Your little clit is burning for me, I want you to cum for me sweet girl. Can you do that?” Tom asked before diving back into your cunt
“Yes. Yes, please don’t stop. Tom! I’m cumming!” You warned before you hit your release as gushed all over Toms face making him groan into your pussy as he worked you through your orgasm.
“So good. You did so good for me baby.” Tom praises as he crawled back up your body as brought you into a kiss, you groaned as you tasted yourself on his tongue. “Can you take one more for me baby, I have to be inside you.”
“Please fuck me Tommy. I need your cock.” You whined gripping onto his shoulders and pulling him close to you
“Ok my needy girl. Spread those legs wide open for me, good girl.” Tom said helping you spread your legs wide so he had enough room to enter you, Tom grabbed his rock hard cock and ran it through your folds allowing your juices to coat his thick length. “You ready?”
“Yes.” You nodded as Tom pushed inch by inch inside of your aching cunt
“Fuck baby. Always so tight for me.” Tom groaned into your neck sucking hickies into your neck. “Please let me move baby.”
“Please move.” You nodded and Tom immediately snapped his hips into yours making both of you moan at the friction. “Fuck.”
“God baby, so good.” Tom groaned thrusting into you hard making you gasp and claw at his back, Tom rutted into you making your breasts bounce and legs wrap around his waist pulling him closer to you. “You gonna come for me again?”
“Yes Tommy, I’m so close.” You gasped as Tom brought his hand down and roughly started rubbing your sensitive clit
Your moans mixed in the air and you both were so into your pleasure that you didn’t hear the door open from down the hall. Or the two voices that called out your name.
“Are you sure she’s home?” Goose asked Maverick who immediately went into the kitchen to grab a beer
“Her cars outside, you check her room I’ll check the bathroom.” Maverick said and Goose nodded making his way down the hallway and to your room
Goose pushed the door open before gasping and covering his eyes as the sight of you sprawled out underneath Tom both of you completely naked and joined together was now burned into his mind.
“Ah my eyes! My eyes! Dear god!” Goose exclaimed turning around hearing the shuffle of bedsheets
“Goose! What the hell are you doing here?” You asked completely mortified as you wrapped your blanket around you and Tom who just chuckled trying to pull you back into his arms, obviously not as embarrassed as you were
“We were suppose to have a movie night!” Goose defended himself still not facing you
“Shit I’m sorry I forgot. Wait does that mean?” You asked but were interrupted as Maverick came rushing into the room
“What’s wrong? Oh god!” Maverick exclaimed covering his own eyes. “Oh I’m going to throw up.”
“You two should really grow up.” Tom spoke from his spot next to you on the bed laying against the pillows with his arms behind his head while you were still sitting up clutching the bedsheets to your chest.
“Why the fuck are you in bed naked with my baby sister?!” Maverick asked Tom with a glare on his face
“Do you really need me to tell you?” Tom asked with a smirk making Maverick step towards him
“Woah! Can we please not do this right now? Pete you and Goose just wait in the living room and I’ll be there in a second.” You said with a sigh
“Fine! But this is not over!” Pete said stomping away while Goose sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck
“This might be a bad time, but you know that move you guys were doing? Anyway you could tell me how to do it, I’m sure Carole would love it.” Goose started
“Goose!” You exclaimed covering your face in embarrassment
“I thought not, carry on.” Goose said quickly following after Maverick
You flopped back onto the bed with a groan, covering your face. While Tom chuckled beside you and wrapped his arm around your waist.
“At least we don’t have to worry about telling your brother.” Tom shrugged making you look at him with wide eyes before chuckling
“That was so embarrassing, Goose saw us fucking.” You said shaking your head
“It could have been worse. Mav could have been the one to walk in.” Tom said with a chuckle making you laugh
“I guess your right. Come on, we better face the music.” You said starting to get up before Tom grabbed your hand
“Hey. I love you.” Tom said making you smile
“I love you too.”

“Good morning, Jose, how are we feeling today?”
“Hey Doctor Kerner,” Jose sighed, moving on the bed, “I feel like I’m going to explode.”
The woman laughed as she sat on her stool, “Welcome to the late stages of pregnancy. My husband said I was the worst.”
“I think anyone around me would agree,” Jose couldn’t help but laugh, “My emotions are bad enough without adding in the fact I’m always uncomfortable.”
“Well, let’s take a look and see what little miss up to,” Doctor Kerner replied, grabbing a pair of gloves, “Have you had any contractions that you know of?”
“Nothing consistent or powerful. Maybe one or two in the last week?” Jose replied.
“Well you aren’t dilated and I’m not seeing any signs of your body getting ready for labor,” Doctor Kerner informed Jose, “I think this little girl is okay with staying for a little while.”
“Thank god, I’m not ready for her to be out here yet.”
“Is Lieutenant Bradshaw behaving? I can have a talk with his Captain, I know him very well,” The Doctor rolled away on her stool.
“I-How did you know about Bradley?” Jose questioned.
“Off the record now, but the women on this base talk a whole lot. Bradley Bradshaw was the catch of the base, until you came along. Not to mention my husband and his old wingmen gossip like teenage girls,” Doctor Kerner laughed, “I also have a soft spot for him, my husband and I knew his parents.”
“You knew Bradley’s parents?” Jose questioned, fully sitting up now, “He doesn’t talk about them a whole lot.”
“Goose and Carole,” She smiled softly, “My husband, Ron, went to the Academy with Goose, of course he was just plain Nick Bradshaw then. Carole and I became good friends over the years. Somehow the boys managed to be at Topgun at the same time. Ron was in the air the day Goose died. It wrecked him for a while. Wrecked all of them really, especially Maverick. I think that poor man still carries that day with him.”
“So your husband was a pilot too?”
“A backseater actually, like Goose, only Ron flew with Tom Kasanzky back in the day, better known as Iceman. After Goose, all of us did our best to be there for Carole and Bradley, no matter what. We lost touch when Bradley was in high school though, my Ron and sweet Carole got sick around the same time. Ron’s been gone nearly ten years now.”
“What was his callsign?”
“Slider,” She smiled at Jose, “Moral of the story, Bradley is a good boy…or man. He’s a good man, between him and Seresin, I think you and your baby are going to be well taken care of.”
“I’m not worried about that, more worried about how spoiled she’s going to be,” Jose remarked, “But thank you for the talk, I think I needed it. Jake and Bradley want to set me up with some girls so I have more than just them and Phoenix. They said I need a mom friend too.”
“I think that’s a great idea,” Doctor Kerner agreed, “That’s my full medical opinion. Now get out of here, you and baby Wilson are all clear.”
Later that night, Jose found herself in Bradley’s Bronco, headed towards his ‘Uncle’s’ place. Jose hadn’t met the great Pete Maverick Mitchell yet, but that was about to change. She was also going to officially  meet his girlfriend, Penny, who owned The Hard Deck, and her daughter Ameilia. Bradley smiled as he told her about the young girl, stating that he felt very much like a big brother towards her now.
Jose couldn’t help but be nervous, and it seemed like her baby seemed to feel that too. Because the littlest Wilson wouldn’t stop moving around and kicking. Jose grunted a bit as she shifted in her seat again, hoping to get into a more comfortable position, but the baby just kept kicking and punching at her.
“Is she moving a lot?” Bradley questioned once at a stoplight.
“God,” You groaned, “She won’t stop. I’m glad she’s moving, but she genuinely won’t quit.”
He laughed a little before putting a hand on her bump. In return the baby kicked right where his hand was. He smiled and moved it over a little, only for her to do the same exact thing. Anywhere he moved his hand, she would either kick or punch it. While Bradley was having a great time with this, Jose was grunting with every movement.
“You like playing that game with Bradley, don’t you?” You groaned, poking your stomach, “Maybe do it a little bit more gently. Mama is not the best punching bag.”
“Sorry,” Bradley was quick to say, pulling his hand back, “Forgot it isn’t comfortable for you.”
But Jose just reached for his hand and put it back on her stomach, letting her smile show, “I didn’t say I didn’t like you playing around with her. Just that she needed to kick and hit a little softer. I’m glad she’s responding to you.”
Bradley looked over and couldn’t help but smile at the woman next to him. Every time he thought he knew what she was going to do or say, she kept surprising him. She handled all of his far better than anyone could’ve imagined her to. It made his chest feel almost too small for his heart. For a second, he wondered if this is what his dad felt like towards his mom. He hoped that it was true, he hoped Goose felt a fraction of what Bradley felt for Jose and her daughter.
“If you want to go at any point, just let me know,” Bradley told her as he pulled in front of a small house, “They’ll understand, I promise.”
Jose nodded, squeezing his hand before reaching for her seatbelt buckle. She wasn’t sure about meeting three new people at once, but she trusted Bradley. She knew that he wouldn’t bring her to meet people that weren’t worth knowing. She had to trust that they would be just as great as Bradley.
He led her to the front door before knocking a couple of times. A middle aged woman with dark wavy hair answered the door, automatically pulling Bradley in for a hug before turning towards Jose. Her smile was warm and inviting as she got a good look at her.
“You must be the Jose we’ve heard so much about,” Penny then hugged Jose as tightly as she could without squishing her or the baby, “It’s so good to finally meet you honey. Come on in and sit down, I remember how uncomfortable I was on my feet when I was this far along.”
Jose blushed, “It’s awful really. I have a bowling ball attached to my stomach.”
“I‘ll get you some water,” Penny offered, “Pete! Amelia! They’re here.”
A man rounded the corner. He was shorter than Jose expected for a man of his legend, but seemed more than happy to see Bradley. He hugged him, patting his back several times, before turning towards Jose.
“I’m Pete, but almost everyone calls me Maverick,” He extended a hand, “It’s good to meet you Jose. Dinner should be ready soon.”
“Alright, let me get her settled, okay?” Bradley laughed, putting a hand on Jose’s back to lead her, “The munchkin has been really active and kicking the living shit out of her. Partially my fault.”
“Of course it’s your fault,” Another voice joked from the living room.
Bradley sighed, “Jose, meet Amelia, Amelia meet Jose,” Then he shot the young girl a look, “Play nice.”
She stuck out her tongue, “I’m always nice, birdbrain.”
Jose laughed, nudging Bradley with her elbow, “Huh, Birdbrain, I like that. Fits more than Rooster.”
“Hey! Birds can be smart,” he defended himself, helping her sit down.
“Sure they are,” Amelia snorted.
Bradley glanced around before flipping the younger girl off. She only laughed and returned the favor, narrowing her eyes at him. He told Jose that he was going to help Maverick with dinner, before disappearing out of the back door in search of the older man.
This left Jose alone with Amelia. The younger girl eyed her carefully, looking her up and down. Amelia leaned back into the sofa, stretching her arms out along the back with a sigh.
“So, you’re having a baby?”
“Uh,” Jose looked down at her stomach, almost wanting to laugh, “Yeah, a girl. She could come any day, really. But the plan is to keep her cooking a little while longer. At least another month.”
“I’ll babysit,” Amelia shrugged, “You know, if you need anyone. I’m good with kids. I babysit some of the little baby base rats.”
Jose smiled, “I’d like that. As long as your mom is okay with it.”
“I would love it,” Penny spoke up, “In fact, I insist that you let us watch after that baby every now and again. Seeing as you’re apart of this family now, whether you like it or not.”
Jose smiled. When was the last time that she really felt like she was a part of a family? Her mom sure as hell didn’t give her much of a family feel, not since it was just them and her mom was hardly there for her. Mrs. Seresin tried her best, but the relationship with her husband and some of the daughters made things difficult. Michael was her family once, but then he turned on her.
“I like that,” Jose admitted, “I don’t have much in the way of a family.”
Penny smiled almost sadly, “Well, you do now. And you’re welcome here anytime, with or without Bradley.”
“Thank you, I really appreciate that,” Jose replied honestly.
“And if you ever need any help with the baby, you can call me anytime. It’s been a while since I had Amelia,” Penny told her, “But I still remember a thing or two. It helps to have someone who’s been through it all before.”
Jose nodded, “I’ve been told. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your offer. I’ll take you up on it, I’m sure.”
“Good,” Penny smiled, “Now, let’s go eat. The boys should be finished with dinner.”
And just like that, Jose had more of a family than she ever had. Four people, aside from Jake, who genuinely seemed to care about her. SIx people, including Jake and Natasha, who genuinely wanted the best for her and her baby. And her baby. Her sweet little girl who would be joining the world sooner rather than later. Her daughter, all hers, hers to love and cherish, hers to protect. Though she was scared to death, Jose couldn’t wait to meet her.
She couldn’t wait to see what she would be like. What color her eyes and hair would be. Would she have dimples? Or freckles? Even if she looked like Michael, Jose would love her endlessly. Jose simply just couldn’t wait to meet and hold her little girl. And she certainly couldn’t wait to introduce her to her new little family.

omgg can you do something with yandere viktor hargreeves with a girly reader? like the reader loves skirts and dresses and viktor thinks it's so adorable how sweet and innocent like it is? is that fine with you
note: omg this is my first request so ignore the screaming inside state of mind i'm in rn... anyway! i loveeeee this idea and it's fine by me, hope you like it lovely anon. <3
Tumblr media
viktor's life was filled with chaos since the first day, from his dad shitty parental ways to his brothers fighting just to see who gets the first sip of coffee in the morning. he thought this was his life, his without-purpose life.
until he found you.
he remembers that day as the day he started to thank the universe.
he was shopping with diego and luther, both of his brothers wanting to help him choose some comfortable clothes since they couldn't find anything else to do. at first he was tired (mentally and physically), he didn't want to come and endure their endless bickering and just as he was about to step in luther's speech of black not being the best of colors, his eyes caught a glimpse of your pink skirt.
it was the most... pink clothing he has ever seen.
taking two steps back to see your figure clearly, he swears he could feel the shine in his eyes as he saw you.
you were wearing a soft pink outfit, as if you walked straight out of a barbie magazine, your small smile brighter than the lipgloss in your lips, your manicured hands touching the fabric of a dress that caught your attention; oblivious to the hargreeves sibling stare.
“ hey! ” two voices scream behind him, making viktor slightly jump and raise a fist as a mechanism of defense, turning his head.
“ jesus christ! ” he exclaims with an annoyed glare, now lowering his hand, almost angry that the sight of you disappeared as both of them walked in front of him.
“ we just asked, five times, ” diego holds his hand with five fingers as an emphasis “, your opinion in this shirt and you ignored us- did an emo jacket stole your attention or what? ” diego, more annoyed than viktor, asks with his usual big brother tone; reminding him that time ben called him an emo.
“ n-no, i just got distracted, that's all, no big deal. ” first mistake, never say you got distracted to any of the hargreeves, they will ask—.
“ by what? ” luther asks, putting down a jacket as he looks at viktor; now curious.
viktor just shrugs, now looking at the shirts displayed next to him.
“... by who? ” diego then asks.
viktor looks at him for two seconds. second mistake, corporal language is diego's favorite thing.
“ no way! ” diego screams, getting two close customers attention, viktor now shushing him.
“ wait, i don't get it. ” oblivious luther says with an exasperated look, diego looking around while viktor tries to hide both of them (as if that could be possible).
“ stop, shut up! it's nothing, let's just go- please, please. ” viktor begs, thinking if his dignity is still valuable with the thought of getting in his knees to pray to whoever is up there to have mercy on him.
“ tell me, come on, i won't say anything. ” diego says in a whisper, as if luther wasn't there - who still is clueless.
“ if i tell you, will you stop? ” viktor asks, looking directly at diego's eyes.
“ okay. ”
“ i got distracted by the girl behind me, no big deal, just thought- ”
viktor didn't have time to think of an excuse as diego walks straight to you, being the only girl in the store helped, a triumphant smile in his face.
“ hey, what's up? i'm diego. ” diego says, 'softly', to you.
you raise your head, a surprised glint in your eyes, a beautiful smile now covering your face.
“ hi, i'm y/n! ” you exclaim, clearly excited of meeting new people, your dresses hanging from your arm.
diego has to take a moment, he now understands why viktor got so distracted.
“ hey, so, my brother, ” he points to viktor, who just looks at luther, clearly distressed, his hands grabbing his hair. “ thinks you're beautiful and wants to date you... i think, but he definitely thinks you're beautiful. ”
you're still looking at both of the men behind diego, watching how a tall, buff man tries to calm his brother. tilting your head you giggle, clearly amused.
“ oh well, i'd like to, he seems cute so yeah! ”
“ great. — hey viktor! ” diego then screams, making you slightly jump, hugging your dresses.
viktor turns around, diego calls him over again, making his way to the both of you as he did not want to leave you alone with diego; the sight of him so close to you making him want to stop being the pacifist of the family.
“ hey, i'm sorry, whatever he told you is just- well, we are just- ”
“ she said yes. ” that interrupts viktor rambling, who now frowns in confusion, staring at diego.
“ y-yes to what? ”
“ our date. ” you softly say, gaining viktor's attention once again; who 'dumbly' smiles at you with a starstruck look.
“ o-our date? ” he stutters again, making you giggle, nodding your head while walking a little closer to him.
luther slowly made their way to the three of you, taking diego by the collar of his shirt to give a bit of privacy to their brother, while thinking of a way to scold him for intruding in viktor's love life (even if he would've done the same).
“ you're so cute. ” you say, now feeling a bit nervous at seeing how good looking he was, now that you looked closer, your fingers playing with the fabric of the dresses you were carrying. “ when's the date? — oh! you know, i know a very good café- it's a cat café! you can hug cats! and they're clean so you don't have to worry about higiene or that. ” you start talking excitedly about the place, viktor's gaze just full of love and affection as he hears everything you say, both of you oblivious to the beautiful moments that were going to follow.

a few weeks forwards to that moment, viktor smiles as he watches you model some skirts a friend gifted you; one of the now few friends you had, your boyfriend advising the type of people you should befriend (him and his family) and you listened to him, of course! he is your boyfriend and he wants the best for you.
“ so? ” you ask with a smile in your face, your back facing a big mirror, viktor sitting in your soft bed while holding a teddy bear you had.
“ you look beautiful. ” he says, blinking a few times just to make sure you're not a figment of his imagination.
you pout, making viktor worry he said the wrong thing.
“ vik, you said that already! ” you stomp your feet, a somewhat relieved sigh leaves viktor lips as he stands up, leaving mr. fluff in your bed.
“ i mean, what else can i say? you look cute, perfect, so so so pretty, my beautiful baby. ” he compliments you to no end, knowing you just want all his attention, holding your face to plant a kiss in your pouting lips who now turns into a shy smile.
“ and? ” you ask as you bring your hands behind your back, blinking a few times looking at the ceiling of your room, making viktor laugh at how adorable you looked.
“ and i love you so much. ” he says, almost in a whisper, his smile never leaving his face.
“ hmph, i knooow. ” you say in a 'singsong' voice, giggling as viktor tickles you a bit. “ okay, okay! i love you too- a lot, a bunch, muah! ” finishing your sentence with a kiss.
viktor stands there, in the middle of your room, you leaving to change in the bathroom, for a few seconds he laughs as he falls to your bed; bouncing a bit, with mr. fluff falling next to him.
“ cute, isn't she? ” he asks to the plushie as if it were to answer him, staring at the ceiling with a dumb smile in his lips.
️️ ️️️️️️️️️꙳ ᡃ. ۪ ࣪ 𖦹 ֑ ׂ ۪ ٞ ּ ໋ ݂ ﹢𓄹 ִ ׂ 𝅄 ᡃ. ۪ ࣪ 𖦹 ֑ ࣪ ✿ ۪ ٞ ּ 𝅄ᡃ. ۪ ࣪ 𖦹 ֑ ׂ ۪ ٞ ּ ໋ ݂ ﹢𓄹 ִ ׂ 𝅄 ꙳
you and viktor walked hand in hand through the big store, his other arm occupied by a few bags from other stores you visited.
“ oh, what about this one? ” you excitedly point to a flower decorated dress, the white cloth soft at touch, making you smile as you grabbed it and threw it to the small cart next to the both of you.
“ and this one! no- wait, that one! no, i know! ” viktor just, once again, smiles at you. the dress you were wearing moving like the waves of the ocean, making your silhouette more graceful as you walked to every section of the store that caught your attention, viktor following right behind you.
viktor was never a fan of shopping, it made him more confused than anything, but for you he was the biggest enthusiast. watching you choose every dress, skirt, top, blouse, sweater was almost like watching someone do a magic trick.
in his defense, he is so in love with you that everything you do seems amazing to him (who - almost - ended the world twice, traveled in time and had an alien for a father).
he is so in love with you that he took you shopping so you didn't think of him looking through your phone while you shower, asking you who the hell was 'alan' or... any other male contact that wasn't him.
he is so in love with you that he takes you to dinner, excusing him to the bathroom, moments later appearing to you with a bright smile as he grabs your soft hand to make you pay attention to his tenth declaration of love of the evening; behind you walks a beaten man, his bruised face now scared as he spots viktor, running out of the restaurant before you even acknowledge the surprised gasps of other people around you.
he is so in love with you that he gifted you beautiful white skirts so you can gush about it, looking through the bag, while he grabs some panties from your open drawer hiding them in the pocket of his pants.
he was just, so in love with you.

Short love: Chp 4
Just a little skip
Tumblr media
Summary: The is about widowed father Bradley Bradshaw who enlists his brother-in-law Jake Seresin and childhood best friend Robert Floyd to help raise his three daughters, eldest Donna Jo Margaret (D.J for short), middle child Stephanie and youngest Michelle in his San Diego home.
Pairing: Jake "Hangman" Seresin x Reader
Warning: Fluff, flirting
As Saturday morning dawned, Y/n and Jake found themselves nestled together on the couch, wrapped up in each other's warmth as they savored the quiet moments of the morning. The soft light filtering through the curtains cast a warm glow over the room, creating a sense of coziness and contentment that enveloped them like a warm embrace.
With a contented sigh, Y/n snuggled closer to Jake, resting her head against his chest as she listened to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. It had been a month since their first date, and in that time, their bond had only grown stronger, deepening with each passing day.
As they sat together in comfortable silence, lost in their own thoughts, the sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway, signaling the arrival of DJ and Stephanie. Before they knew it, the two girls came charging into the room, their laughter filling the air as they launched themselves onto the couch with reckless abandon.
"Morning, Aunt Y/n! Morning, Uncle Jake!" DJ exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with mischief as she settled herself next to Y/n.
Stephanie followed suit, giggling as she climbed onto Jake's lap, her tiny hands reaching out to playfully tug at his hair. "Morning, guys! What are we doing today?" she asked, her voice filled with excitement.
Y/n and Jake exchanged amused glances, their hearts full as they looked upon the two girls who had become such an integral part of their lives. With a smile, Y/n wrapped her arms around DJ, pulling her close in a tight hug.
"Well, first things first, how about some breakfast?" Y/n suggested, her voice filled with warmth.
Jake nodded in agreement, his eyes sparkling with mischief as he reached out to tickle Stephanie, eliciting a chorus of giggles from the little girl. "Sounds like a plan," he replied, his tone playful.
And as they settled in for a morning filled with laughter and love, Y/n couldn't help but feel grateful for this moment, for the chance to share in the joy and excitement of being together with Jake and the girls.
As Y/n, Jake, DJ, and Stephanie enjoyed their Saturday morning together on the couch, they were joined by Bob, who descended the stairs with Michelle cradled in his arms. Bob's face was alight with excitement, his eyes sparkling with anticipation as he greeted the group.
"Morning, everyone!" Bob exclaimed, his voice filled with enthusiasm as he made his way into the living room.
"Morning, Uncle Bob!" DJ and Stephanie chimed in unison, their faces lighting up at the sight of their uncle.
Y/n and Jake exchanged knowing smiles as they welcomed Bob into their midst, knowing that he had something special planned for the day. It wasn't every day that Bob had a big show, and they were eager to hear what he had in store.
"Hey, Bob! What's got you so excited this morning?" Jake asked, his curiosity piqued as he leaned forward to listen.
Bob grinned from ear to ear, his excitement palpable as he bounced Michelle gently in his arms. "I've got my big comedy show tonight, and I've been practicing my jokes all morning!" he exclaimed, his voice tinged with excitement.
Y/n and Jake exchanged amused glances, knowing that Bob's comedy shows were always a hit with the audience. His quick wit and infectious humor never failed to bring a smile to their faces, and they had no doubt that tonight would be no exception.
"That's great, Bob! We'll be cheering you on from the audience," Y/n said, her voice filled with encouragement as she reached out to ruffle Bob's hair affectionately.
"Thanks, Y/n! I appreciate it," Bob replied, his grin widening at her words.
And as they settled in for the morning, Bob regaled them with a few of his favorite jokes, his infectious laughter filling the room as they all joined in. With each joke and punchline, the anticipation for Bob's big show grew, and they couldn't wait to see him take the stage and bring joy to everyone around him.
With a mischievous grin, Jake reached out to take Michelle from Bob's arms, a twinkle of excitement dancing in his eyes. "Let me give it a try," he said, his voice filled with playful determination.
Bob chuckled, handing Michelle over to Jake with a knowing smile. "Be careful, Uncle Jake. She's a wriggler," he warned, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
Undeterred, Jake cradled Michelle in his arms, his heart swelling with affection as he looked down at her tiny face. With a flicker of mischief, he lifted her high into the air, eliciting a chorus of delighted squeals from the baby.
"Whoa, look at you, little daredevil!" Jake exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement as he playfully tossed Michelle into the air, catching her with expert precision.
Michelle's laughter filled the room, her chubby cheeks flushed with joy as she reveled in the exhilarating game. With each toss and catch, her giggles grew louder, filling the room with the sweet sound of her happiness.
Not content with just tossing her in the air, Jake leaned in close, blowing raspberries on Michelle's tummy, eliciting even more laughter from the baby. Her tiny fists flailed in the air as she squirmed with delight, her infectious laughter spreading like wildfire.
With a soft chuckle, Y/n leaned against the doorframe, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she watched Jake toss Michelle into the air, the baby's laughter filling the room like music.
"Looks like someone's having fun," Y/n remarked, her voice filled with warmth as she approached Jake and Michelle.
Jake glanced up at Y/n, a bright smile spreading across his face at the sight of her. "Hey, Y/n. We're just having a little playtime, aren't we, Michelle?" he replied, his voice soft but filled with affection.
Y/n laughed at the sight before her, feeling a sense of joy wash over her at the playful interaction between her boyfriend and niece. "I can see that," she replied, her voice tinged with amusement.
As she joined them on the couch, Y/n couldn't help but feel grateful for this moment, for the chance to share in the laughter and love that filled the room. With Jake by her side and Michelle in their arms, she knew that she was exactly where she was meant to be. And as they continued to laugh and play together, Y/n couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth and contentment wash over her, knowing that their bond was only growing stronger with each passing day.
As Jake and Y/n enjoyed the playful moment with Michelle, Jake couldn't resist letting a mischievous grin cross his face. With a twinkle in his eye, he leaned in close to Y/n and whispered, "You know, maybe we should have one of our own."
Y/n's eyes widened in surprise at Jake's unexpected suggestion, a blush creeping up her cheeks as she chuckled nervously. "Slow your horses there, Jake," she replied, her tone teasing but filled with affection.
Jake laughed at Y/n's response, his heart swelling with love for the woman beside him. "Hey, I'm just kidding," he reassured her, reaching out to squeeze her hand gently. "But can you imagine how cute our little one would be?"
Y/n couldn't help but smile at Jake's enthusiasm, feeling a rush of warmth flood her heart at the thought of starting a family together. "Yeah, I can imagine," she replied, her voice soft but filled with tenderness.
As they sat together on the couch, surrounded by laughter and love, Y/n couldn't help but feel grateful for this moment, for the chance to share in Jake's dreams and aspirations. With him by her side, she knew that anything was possible, and she couldn't wait to see where their journey together would take them.
And as they continued to laugh and play with Michelle, Y/n couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement building within her, knowing that their future was filled with endless possibilities and the promise of a lifetime of love.

october 17, 2018 london, england calum
My sister insists that I spend our short break after the American leg in London. We made up our San Diego and San Jose shows yesterday and the day before, and I immediately went to the airport after the show to head to England. I got here around 12:00 local time, and Mali greeted me at the airport very happily. I wasn’t in the mood, but it is always nice to see her.
She took me back to her flat where I took a nap after not sleeping at all on the plane, but she woke me up promptly at 6 pm, saying she has dinner reservations for us.
I’m still not in the mood.
Today should have been my two year ‘official’ anniversary with Orion. In my eyes, I was entirely hers and hers alone since we met at Space Monkey, but I know that’s not how she viewed it. I should be spending the day with her, but instead we’re on opposite sides of the world, both miserable. I assume she’s miserable. If how much misery I’m in is any indication of how she’s doing, I can’t imagine she’s doing well.
And I don’t have cancer.
Mali and I are tucked into a corner booth at her favorite restaurant. It’s dark in here, with soft ambient lighting and candles at each table. It would feel romantic if I were here with Orion.
“Alright, I know you’re kinda down today,” Mali starts, and that’s where I stop her.
“Kinda down?” I ask, narrowing my eyes at her.
She sighs and rolls her eyes. “You know what I mean.”
“No, Mali, I understand exactly what you mean, and you’re wrong. You are belittling everything that I’m going through right now.”
Mali moves her head back, her eyes going wide and she looks away from me. She mutters, ‘wow’ under her breath before she speaks again at a normal volume. “Calum, please. Can I finish what I wanted to say?”
I purse my lips. “Sure, what did you want to say?”
I watch my sister take a few breaths in and out. “I know you’re dealing with a really shitty breakup, but that doesn’t mean we can’t just have a nice dinner together.”
My new signature bitter laugh comes out of my mouth without a second thought. I fold my hands on the table and shake my head, my eyes focused on the cloth napkin rolled around silverware in front of me.
“First, do you know what today is?” I ask, breaking my eye contact with my napkin to look at her.
Her immediate shift to a confused expression answers the question for me.
“It’s supposed to be our anniversary.”
Mali’s face softens and she reaches across the table for my hand, but I pull mine into my lap. She frowns. “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize it was today.”
“Second, Mal, it’s more than just a ‘really shitty breakup.’”
She raises her eyebrows, inviting me to elaborate.
“I am not only getting used to not having the love of my fucking life in my life anymore, the reason she’s not in my life is because she wanted to spare me the shitty experience of watching her die of terminal cancer. She’s dying, and I can’t even be with her through it. Oh, and my best friend—actually, no, my brother knew that my girlfriend was dying and lied about it. Do you know what that feels like?”
Dramatically, I pause, but I know Mali isn’t going to answer.
“No, you don’t, because nobody else can even fathom that it would happen. It’s not shit anyone else, probably ever, has gone through. Shitty is just one word out of hundreds that I could to describe how absolutely soul-crushing, mind-fucking, and heartbreaking it is to experience this.”
My sister is rendered practically speechless and she doesn’t seem to know what to say. I’m upset now, and am even more annoyed by being dragged to dinner. It would be a great time to leave right now, when I’m already being dramatic, but I can’t bring myself to stand up.
“Calum, I’m sorry,” she says with a gentle voice. “Truly, so sorry. I know how much you love her. She loves you too, and we all know it. If I know Orion, or anything about any of the other people close to her, this is temporary.”
My eyes are watering now and I look back down to my napkin. “But what if it isn’t?” I whisper.
Mali sighs, and the next thing I know, she’s on my side of the booth with me, hugging me with her healing big sister hug. “Have some faith, C. Love as strong as yours isn’t going away. It’ll pull you back together again. I’m sure of it.”
We manage to have a somewhat enjoyable dinner together. We split a bottle of cabernet, Orion’s favorite, and I’m able to stomach some of the creamy pasta I ordered. Mali tells me all about her latest music projects and promises to play me snippets of her favorite pieces when we go back to her place. She shares that she’s thinking about getting a cat and has started looking at a few rescues to see if any of them call out to her but she hasn’t found the right one yet.
She also offers to come on the Europe leg with us if it would help me to have an extra support person around right now. I can’t ask her to give up her life just to be there for me, so I tell her it’s fine, but if she wants to join for just the UK section that would be fun.
And now, as we walk back to her flat, warm inside from the wine, I realize that I just did what Orion did.
I pushed my sister away and didn’t want her to join me on tour because I didn’t want her to put her life on hold. I don’t want her to be there for me, not because it wouldn’t be nice, but because I love her and she has a life to live, friends to see, songs to write and record.
Somehow, on opposite sides of the world, the realization makes me feel closer to her.

Note: Finn and Kol could pretty much switch places to each other since they has a lot of similarities - anger issues, trauma from being locked/abandoned in coffins/ graves, being overlooked, underestimated and treated like a fool, dying and coming back to life repeatedly... Kol is also head over heels for a special power girl who had a vendetta against his brother and tried to kill their family. And he also did have a bit of hero complex, given the fact that he died twice for trying to save someone/the world. But I prefer that way because Kol is the one who matches the chaotic energy of Klaus xD

10 years.
It had been 10 years since I watched her die.
Her plane went down in fiery smoke 10 years ago and it was all my fault.
So how the fuck was she standing on my porch?
I had been to places that were much colder than San Diego. But the chill I was feeling was as cold as dry ice, the kind that burns you if you touch it.
She was my everything.
Tom stood against the car behind her, a half smile, half worried look stretched across his face.
"Hey man," Goose tried his best to console me. He and his very pregnant wife had stood by my side at her funeral. Goose threw an arm around my shoulder and all I could do was laugh.
"How do you have a funeral with a casket that's empty?" My voice was shot. I guess that's what I get for spending the last month of my life screaming and crying.
Goose seems taken aback by my question, he shoots Carole a worried glance as she waddles over to us, struggling to sit down in the chair beside me. She put a soft hand on my knee, offering a smile that would do no help.
"It's for her family Mav," Carole said slowly, "how do you think they would feel if they had nothing to bury?"
I look up at her, "I wish they had something to bury, maybe then this shit show wouldn't hurt as bad because at least I'd know I didn't abandon her after her plane went down."
Carole's eyes got softer as she rubbed her thumb on my knee.
"Mav," Goose said softly, "it's impossible that she is alive, you know. There could have been no survivors with the way her plane crashed."
"Mav," her voice came softly to my ears, "Mav it's me."
I was too shocked to move, my body and mind felt like the static on the television and she was messing with the remote's buttons. Her arm reached out to grab mine and the moment I felt her touch I broke down.
In a swift motion, she was in my arms. The both of us collapsed into a pile of tears on my doorstep. Tom kept his distance, watching as I was reunited with my first love.
All of the hurt had vanished in a matter of minutes, she was here, she was real, and she was safe.
"How did you?" She kissed me once before smiling. I study her face, worried that I'll forget it the moment I close my eyes for sleep.
I invite both her and Tom inside, there's a lot she doesn't know.
My house was a mess. A bottle of scotch and a glass sat together on my coffee table as I had forgotten they were there.
"Pete, what happened to you," her voice was soft as she looked around my home, papers were strewn about my living room, my kitchen was a disaster and my room was a mess.
"You happened to me." I joked but the shared look between them as if you question if the other knew that I was this bad.
She took a seat on the couch while Tom followed me into the kitchen.
"Pete, dude." Tom spoke softly, "what happened?"
I looked up at him his eyes filled with wonder and fear.
"I lost myself after I lost her," I said, "I quit everything after Goose died because I didn't have anyone anymore."
Tom put a hand on my shoulder before I nodded and headed back into the living room, Tom following closely behind me.
"Pete, where's Nicky?" Her eyes bore holes into me. I let out a shaky breath as Tom tried to step forward to speak. I threw my arm out to stop him, taking a few steps over to her and crouching down to her eye level.
"He died, about six years back."
I watched as her beautiful eyes welled up with tears, it had always been the three of us on the ship, we were always the three that got into trouble.
***
"Lieutenant Mitchell, Lieutenant Bradshaw, Lieutenant Kazansky," Commander Jardian's voice came through, rung out and tired.
We had been in this fight for three days. We were all exhausted.
"Why is it whenever there is trouble on this ship it is you three imbeciles running the muck?"
Goose tried his hardest to suppress a smile as our best friend stood beside us, taking the screaming like a champ.
"Sir," she began, head held high. "In our defense, Goose had asked a very good question and we absolutely had to figure out the answer to it."
"Merit." Jardian sighed, her call-sign falling off his lips in a tired slope. "What exactly was the question you three just had to answer?"
"Well you see sir," she stood taller to meet his gaze, "Goose's fiancé sent him a bunch of candy that we can't get overseas, and one of those happened to be gummy worms."
The commander applied pressure to the space between his eyes as the three of us shared a quick glance.
"Goose wanted to know what would happen if you licked one side of the gummy and then flung it at the wall." She stated softly.
"Yeah," Goose added, "but then that changed to the ceiling, and once we ran out of gummy worms we discovered what else could stick to the wall and ceiling."
"So you're telling me," Commander Jardian started, " that the reason your bunk room is covered in gummy worms, gummy bears, and all things gummy is because you wanted to see if it would stick?"
The three of us delivered a sharp nod.
"Please," he started, exhausted by the conversation, "get out of my sight."
With a quick 'yes sir' the three of us scurried off, falling into a pit of giggles as soon as the door closed behind us.
***
"No," she said softly, "not Nicky."
I nodded before grabbing her hands.
"What happened since I went down?" Her voice filled with such a sadness only the truly broken would understand.
"Him and Carole got married. They had a beautiful baby boy, his name is Bradley. He is so prefect, he's gonna be 9 this year."
She looked between Tom and I, a mixture of disbelief and sadness in her face broke my heart.
"What happened to him?" She seemed tired, desperately trying to avoid the blanket of sleep that was overcoming her.
"We can talk about that tomorrow, come on let's get you into bed." I outstretched my hand to offer her help in standing up. Tom helping me bring her upstairs, getting her settled into the bed in whatever clothes we could find.
She had been fast asleep for all of and hour before Tom and I found ourselves on the back porch, both of us nursing cups of scotch.
"How did they find her?" I asked, breaking the silence we had.
"Classified, not even I am allowed to know." Tom let out a chuckle, "I got a call one day that they had found her and the next thing I knew mom, pop, and I were rushing into the hospital waiting room, hoping someone could give up any information on her."
I nod along, thankful that she's home.
"How long has she been here?" I ask softly, afraid I'll wake up the girl inside.
"About three months, most of that though was spent in a hospital learning to do basic human functions again." Tom took a sip of his drink, "she asked for you the moment she woke up."
I shutter. If I could have gone after her the moment I knew she had survived.
"Maverick," Tom pulled me from my thoughts, "my sister has been through a lot, please don't break her heart too."
I took a sad glance at Tom and smiled.
"Never in a million years."

Sunday morning you slipped out of bed, pulling on one of Bradley’s t-shirts and quietly making your way down to the kitchen. You decided to treat him to a full breakfast, letting him sleep in while you cooked. You looked in cabinets, finding what you needed to make him some pancakes from scratch, then opened the fridge to find eggs and bacon to go along with the pancakes. You selected a playlist on your phone, setting it on the counter out of the way and got to work cooking.
You were flipping pancakes, swaying to the music when Bradley wandered into the kitchen a little while later. He stood in the doorway watching you with a smile on his face before making his way over to slip his arms around you from behind and burying his face in your neck.
“Morning, Sweetheart.” He said quietly, before placing a soft kiss on your shoulder, then neck, before moving to your ear and finally your lips when you turned your face towards him smiling.
“I was trying to let you sleep in.” You told him, “Did the music wake you up?”
“No, I got lonely.” He pouted, “My beautiful love wasn’t next to me when I woke up and I got sad.”
“Aw, my poor baby Roo.” You cooed playfully, setting the spatula down and turning in his arms to wrap your own around his neck, “Come here.” You pulled him down and kissed him, your fingers slipping into his hair, loving the soft feel.
“I was looking forward to no more lonely mornings now that this is your home too.” He teased, “Only to wake up to no girlfriend by my side.”
“I promise to make it up to you.” You promised, kissing him again before turning back to the pancakes, “Grab plates though, your breakfast is almost done. I wanted to spoil my boyfriend with a nice breakfast this morning.”
“Your boyfriend greatly appreciates his girlfriend making him breakfast.” He said, kissing your cheek before doing as you asked and grabbing the plates.
“How about we eat then shower together before we go tell Gracie the good news?” You suggested.
“That sounds perfect, Sweetheart.” He agreed. “Jake and I are fully committed to taking her to Disneyland as well to soften the blow that we can’t all live in one giant castle.”
“I think the two of you just want a reason to go to Disneyland and you’re using our daughter to do so.” You laughed, turning off the stove after plating the last of the pancakes. You pulled the eggs and bacon from the oven where you’d been keeping them warm and set them on the counter. Noticing Bradley had gone quiet, you turned to see him set the plates down on the table and turn towards you. Without saying a word he was across the kitchen and had you in his arms, holding you tightly, his face buried in your hair, breathing you in. You wrapped your arms around him, your hands running over his back to comfort him.
“Bradley… Baby, are you ok?” You asked quietly, turning your face to place a kiss to his chest. “Talk to me, Roo.”
“I’m more than Ok.” He whispered in your hair, taking another moment before he pulled back and smashed his lips to your own, kissing you deeply. When the need for air caused you to have to separate, he pulled back enough to rest his forehead against your own, not wanting to separate further just yet.
“Not that I’m complaining…” You said, slightly out of breath, but highly confused, “But… what’s going on in your head, Bradley?”
“You called Gracie our daughter.” He replied softly, his voice gravely from emotions and the heated kiss, “I know it’s dumb that it just now hit me because she’s been calling me Daddy and I’ve literally been saying she’s my little girl for a while now, but to hear you say she’s our daughter… Y/N… I can’t even describe the feeling that hit me. It was better than anything that I’ve ever felt… It was more incredible than the feeling I got the first time I flew in an F-18. I just… got a little overwhelmed.”
“It’s absolutely not dumb, Bradley.” You said, pulling back so you can look him in the eyes. “Anything you’re feeling at any time is never dumb. I want to know what you’re thinking and you’re feeling. I didn’t think it was possible, but I just fell even more in love with you.” You pulled him in, kissing him softly but pouring all of the love you felt into it.  When you pulled away, you were both smiling widely, looking at each other with what could only be described as heart eyes. “Come eat, Baby. It’s going to get cold.”
After breakfast the two of you worked side by side to get the dishes cleared and put away then headed upstairs to take a shower…which ended up taking a lot longer than normal because neither of you could keep your hands off of each other.
Bradley left the bathroom first to get dressed while you were drying your hair and applying your lotion and running through your morning skincare routine. When you emerged from the bathroom with a towel wrapped around you, you found him sitting on the bed, dressed in a pair of jeans and a Philly’s T-shirt looking around the room, deep in thought.
You walked over to him, stepping between his spread thighs and cupping his face to gently lift it to look up at you. You smiled softly, bending down to place a gentle kiss on his lips before straightening back up so you could look into his eyes again.
“What has you so deep in thought, my love?” You asked him, slipping your hands around to the back of his neck and lacing your fingers together.  His hands came up to waist to hold you to him.
“Just thinking maybe we can look at new bedroom furniture for in here too…” He said, “While we’re out letting Gracie pick out her new room, maybe we can redecorate our space too… make it ours. And I was mentally making a list of spaces to clear out so you’ll have room in here.”
“I don’t need anything new or fancy, Bradley.” You assured him, “I just need you… and I don’t have much, so please don’t worry about clearing a lot of space.”
“Sweetheart, you may not need new or fancy but I fully intend to spoil my girl.” He informed you, pulling you down so you were sitting on his lap. “I think it’s important for us to turn this into OUR home. As for you not needing a lot of space, I haven’t forgotten our conversation yesterday on the phone. I am taking you shopping and we are not stopping until you have a full wardrobe that you are 100% happy with because you deserve nothing less than that. You’ve done such an amazing job at making sure that Gracie always has everything that she needs and you take care of everyone else all of the time… Sweetheart… please, just this once, let me take care of YOU.”
“I’m not going to win this argument am I?” You whispered, laying your head on his shoulder. “I’m not really good at letting people take care of me… but I’ll work on it. We can pick out new furniture…and go shopping for some clothes.”
“That’s my girl.” He said, turning his head to kiss your forehead, “I should warn you though, when I said just this once… that was a total lie because I plan on always taking care of you. I love you, Sweetheart.”
“I love you too, Bradley.” You replied, kissing his shoulder.
A while later you pulled into the driveway at Jake’s. Bradley parked the Bronco behind your car and the two of you made your way inside. It was already mid morning by the time you got there. Jake and Phoenix were on the couch when you walked in, Gracie running over with various cups and plates of her plastic food serving them.
“Hi Sweet Girl!” You said walking in the front door.
“Looks like you’re having a party and didn’t invite us!” Bradley said, hands on his hips, pouting playfully at Gracie.
“MOMMY! DADDY!” She exclaimed, dropping the plate of plastic food on the couch and running as fast as her legs would carry her towards him. Bradley laughed, scooping her up and tossing her into the air before hugging her tight to him and kissing her face over and over.
“I missed you my little princess!” He said between kisses. Gracie was giggling wildly at his antics. “Did you have fun with Uncle Jake and Aunty Nix?”
“I missed you too, Daddy!” she said, “We had fun! We pwayed! Unco Jakey wet me have ice cweam with spwinkos!”
“Wow, Ice cream AND sprinkles, Uncle Jakey?” You asked, playfully raising an eyebrow at him. You knew he let Gracie have treats when he watched her and you were fine with it. It was cute that Gracie thought she was getting away with something though.
“I’m the fun uncle, what can I say?” He laughed, “Did you two have a good night?”
“We had a great night.” You replied, beaming, looking at Bradley who was still holding Gracie.
“Anything in particular you’d like to share with the group?” Jake asked, winking. He clearly knew Bradley had asked and you laughed, shaking your head.
“Gracie, sweet girl,” You said, “Sit over here with Mommy and Daddy.”  You  moved to the love seat across from the couch, sitting down and Bradley sitting next to you with Gracie sitting in his lap.
“Gracie, do you remember when we were building with blocks and you built a big big castle so we could all live together?” Bradley asked.
“Yes!” She replied, “You wiv wif us Daddy! And Aunty Nix wiv wif us!”
You looked over at Jake and Phoenix who were both fighting smiles as you and Bradley tried to navigate this conversation. You stuck your tongue out at them when Gracie wasn’t looking causing your brother to chuckle out loud and Phoenix to playfully smack him.
“Daddy  and I looked for a big enough castle for all of us, but we couldn’t find one we’d all fit in.” You said, “Would it be ok if you and Mommy move into Daddy’s house with him and we come visit Uncle Jake and Aunty Nix whenever you miss them?”
“Unco Jakey, will miss us too.” She said, her eyes looking sad. Jake could feel his own eyes start to tear up looking over at his niece.
“Come here Princess G.” He said, opening his arms. Gracie jumped down and went to her uncle, climbing into his arms. “I love having you and mommy live with me so so much. But I think that it’s important for you and mommy and daddy to live together, Princess. You won’t be far away like you were before, Ok?”
“Ok.” She said, “But you be sad here awone, Unco Jakey.”
“I won’t be alone, Princess G.” He assured her. “I’ll still come steal you and we’ll have super cool sleepovers with blanket forts and no mommies allowed!” Then he looked over at Phoenix and winked before pulling Gracie to him and whispering in her ear, “You should ask Aunty Nix to move in with me so I’m not sad.”
Gracie beamed at him, then kissed his cheek and scooted over to Phoenix, crawling into her lap. Phoenix eyed Jake suspiciously, but wrapped her arms around Gracie giving her her full attention. They’d already discussed moving in together in future terms so Jake didn’t feel bad about using his niece as leverage here.
You and Bradley watched the scene unfold before you, stealing a glance at Jake, you caught the wink he sent your way. You could guess what your daughter was about to ask Phoenix and you had to hold back the laugh at Jake’s tactics.
“Aunty Nix?” Gracie asked
“What’s up Gracie Girl?” She replied smiling
“You pwease come wiv wif Unco Jakey so he’s not sad when Mommy and me wiv wif Daddy?” She asked, giving her biggest puppy eyes to Phoenix. Jake hadn’t been wrong. You were in trouble when Gracie was a teenager batting those eyes and dimples at you both.
Phoenix looked up at Jake who was also giving her his saddest puppy eyes and pout, his dimples showing too,  causing her to laugh, and fall more in love with the man. There was no way she could tell him ‘no’, or Gracie ‘no’.
“Will it make you feel better Gracie?” She asked, playing along, “If I come live with Uncle Jakey and make sure he’s not lonely?”
“Yes!” Gracie exclaimed.
“Ok, I will do that for you. I will come live with Uncle Jakey and make sure he’s not lonely at all. That way you and Mommy can go live with Daddy so HE’S not loney.”
“I wuv you Aunty Nix!” She said, hugging her tightly. Phoenix laughed, hugging her back just as tightly.
“I love you too, Gracie girl.” She replied, then whispered in her ear, “You should ask Daddy and Uncle Jakey to take you to Disneyland.”
“DADDY! UNCO JAKEY!” She yelled pulling away from Phoenix and whipping around, “We go to DISNEYWAND?”
“Well played Nat.” You laughed, “These two had already planned to offer that up had negotiations not gone well… I think we should make it a Daddy, Uncle, Gracie outting though…”
“Sweetheart…”Bradley said looking at you with a terrified look in his eyes. Glancing at Jake you saw the look in his eyes matched Bradley’s. “I mean… is that… wise?”
“You’re probably right.” You agreed. “We can send Bob to supervise.”
“Tulip!” Jake groaned, “Gracie… don’t you think it would be more fun with your whole family? We can get all of your uncles and maybe even Papa Mav and Penny to come?”
“YES!” She agreed with her uncle, who looked relieved.
“Well, now that that is settled,” You laughed, “We were thinking of furniture shopping today… letting Gracie pick out some things and apparently we’re getting new bedroom furniture too.”
“If you need her bedroom furniture we can move it…” Jake offered, but you could see he really wanted to keep a room here for Gracie. Bradley picked up on it too and smiled. He knew how much Gracie meant to Jake.
“We figured she’d need it when she’s having sleepovers here… if you’re ok keeping it.” Bradley said, “Was going to have her pick out what she’d like in case we needed to bribe her into the new room.”
“I think keeping a room for her here is a great idea.” Phoenix said, “We plan to steal her often anyway, so she’ll need a place to sleep.”
“Absolutely.” Jake agreed, smiling lovingly at Phoenix. “When is your lease up, Sweets?”
“I’ve actually just been month to month until I decided if I wanted to stay in an apartment or if I wanted to look at housing.” She replied, “So… it’s technically up in 2 weeks if I tell them I’m not renewing next month.”
“Tell them.” Jake said, “I’ll come help you pack.”
“I plan on taking my girls as soon as possible.” Bradley said. He pulled you over into his lap, holding you, “I know this week is going to be a lot…and I don’t want to add any pressure or stress to that. We have court and Gracie’s birthday. How about the following weekend we move Phoenix in here and you and Gracie in with me?”
“I think that sounds perfect.” You replied.”What do you think, Nat? Will that be enough time to get everything packed and sorted out with your apartment?”
“Plenty of time.” She smiled, “I’m Navy… I can move with 24 hours notice.”
You spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon with Bradley and Gracie at the furniture store picking out bedroom furniture and setting up delivery. As luck would have it, the sets you found that you liked were in stock so you just had to find a time that the store had a delivery truck and crew available. After leaving the furniture store you decided to stop at Bed Bath and Beyond to pick out new bedding sets and curtains to go with the furniture before grabbing lunch and heading back home for Gracie to take a late nap.
The week went decently fast. Bradley ended up spending every night with you at Jake’s, not wanting to be away from you and Gracie. Jake stayed at Phoenix’s on Monday and Tuesday night to start helping her pack but had promised to be back Wednesday night. He’d stopped into the Hard Deck Wednesday on his lunch while you were working, bringing you something to eat from In and Out Burger.
“I’m not flying this afternoon, so I decided it was a greasy burger, fries and milkshake kinda lunch day.” Jake said, bringing the food up to the bar and setting it all out for the two of you. “And it’s been awhile since I’ve had a lunch date with my baby sister.”
“Thanks Jakey.” You smiled, “You’re the best big brother in the world. I’m actually starving and this smells amazing.”
“You doing OK, Tulip?” He asked, taking the wrapper off of his burger and taking a bite.
“I’m just kinda nervous.” You replied, “I mean… logically I know that with the order of protection, him facing charges and actual jail time the odds are in my favor that the judge will actually terminate his parental rights, but a small part of me is still really scared something will happen and the judge will side with Trent.”
“Baby girl there is zero chance a judge would side with that piece of shit.” Jake assured you. “In fact, I’m confident that this hearing is just a formality to officially free Gracie from him. Lauren pretty much said as much the last time we met with her.”
“I know… It’s just really hard to trust that my world isn’t going to drop out from under me because everything is so perfect.” You confided in him. “Literally everything is going so well… I’m happy Jakey. I am in love with the most amazing man who is literally perfect. He’s stepped right into being Gracie’s daddy without any hesitation and adores her as if she were biologically his own. I’ve made friends…real friends. We have a whole ass FAMILY Jakey. This is… amazing…and yet… scary.”
“I know what you’re saying Y/N.” Jake said smiling sadly, “I hate that you have to feel this way too. I really tried to keep all the bad stuff from ever touching you, Tulip. I guess that just wasn’t realistic. Here’s the thing though… I’ve learned recently from some VERY smart individuals… It’s ok to trust the good stuff. The world won’t fall out from underneath you just because life gets good. The good stuff is what makes life worth living. Just trust that it’s all going to be OK. You’ve survived all the crap life had to throw at you…now you get the good stuff.”
“Listen to your brother, Sweetie.” Penny said gently, coming in from the office, not wanting to startle either of you. “It’s all going to work out tomorrow. Amelia and I will be over in the morning to watch Gracie again. We might take her to the park if that’s ok with you?”
“Thank you, Penny.” You smiled, “She’ll love that. She’ll be excited that Amelia is coming again, she adores her.”
“Perfect.” Penny replied, “I’m going to go take Mav some lunch, he forgot to bring anything. I’ll be back before you leave.”
“Sounds good.” You said, “Take your time.”
You and Jake finished eating your lunch then with some time left before he needed to be back at work decided to play a game of pool.
“So I know you’re moving in with Bradley and you’re in love and everything is great…” Jake said, “With everything that happened with Trent and with what we saw growing up… do you still believe in marriage and happily ever after?”
You looked up from the pool table where you were about to take your shot, trying to get a read on your brother. You couldn’t tell if he was asking because he wasn’t sure how he felt about marriage and happily ever after or if he was really talking about you and Bradley.  You took a minute to think about it, lining up your shot and taking it, sinking the ball in the corner pocket before standing up to walk over to Jake.
“Short answer?” You replied, “Yes. I do. Despite what we saw from our own parents growing up and what I lived with Trent, I DO believe in marriage and happily ever after. I believe in love, Jakey. Do I believe in the fairy tale love that we see on TV and in movies? No, because that’s not real. Love is sometimes messy, it requires work from both parties. It’s give and take… it’s not always 50/50… sometimes it’s one person giving more because the other person is tapped out. What we saw from our parents growing up wasn’t love. But we did see love Jakey. That sweet adorable old couple that used to buy us milkshakes at the diner whenever we went there to escape the fighting? They were so in love with one another after over fifty years of marriage… they thought one another hung the moon. THAT’S love. Bradley had reservations for us on Saturday night at the Italian restaurant we went to on our first date but when I called having a mini breakdown because I didn’t know what to wear and was hating my wardrobe, he realized I wasn’t freaking out about clothes and that going to a fancy restaurant was the last thing I needed so he canceled and planned a perfect beach date on the fly last minute. THAT’S love.”
Jake stood for a moment taking in what you said, letting it all sink in and processing it through his head.
“And because I believe in love, I believe in marriage and if Bradley wants to marry me someday, I will absolutely marry him.” You said, “But if he’s content with us just being together as a family then that’s what we’ll do because I love him.”
“I would do anything for Nix.” Jake admitted quietly. “If someone came through the door and told me that I had to choose between flying and her… I’d choose. Every. Fucking. Time. I would hand over my wings and sign my discharge papers and walk away.”
“Jakey, that’s love.” You smiled at your brother. “But she’d never ask that of you because she loves YOU. Do you believe in marriage, Jakey?”
“Yes.” He replied, smiling as he thought of the rings he had tucked away at home. He made a mental note to make sure they were better hidden before Phoenix moved in. “Can I let you in on a secret?”
“Of course you can!” You replied, gasping, hoping this was going where you thought it was going. Jake chuckled at the excitement on your face.
“Saturday… when Bradley and I were on a top secret mission….” Jake said, “He went with me to help me pick out a ring.”
“JAKEY!” You yelled, throwing down the cue on the table and throwing yourself at your brother. He caught you easily, laughing as you hugged him tightly, and he hugged you back just as tight.
“I take it, you approve?” He asked, chuckling in your ear. Pulling away you gave him a look like he was an idiot, making him laugh again.
“Of COURSE I approve!” You said, “Nat is literally the sister I always wanted and now I get! She’s also the friend I always wished I had. But beyond that she makes YOU happy and THAT is all I could ever hope for. When are you going to ask her?”
“I’m still working on that.” He said, “You better work on your poker face, Tulip. No slipping!”
“I promise!” You said holding out your pinky to him. He laughed but linked his pinky to your own in a child-like promise. “I’m so so happy for you Jakey.”
“Thanks, Tulip.” He replied, “I told you things are going to be good for us. All good stuff from now on.”
“I just ask one thing.” You said, trying to keep a straight face.
“Anything, Tulip.” He replied.
“You’re not allowed to use my daughter to emotionally blackmail Nat into sayin ‘yes’ to marrying you.” You teased, “Moving in was one thing, marriage is totally different.”  Jake threw his head back laughing.
“Tulip!” He gasped, “We’d already talked about it in general Saturday night because I knew Bradley was going to be asking you to move in with him… I just hadn’t made an official ask yet. I swear I wouldn’t ever use Princess G to manipulate anyone!”
“I know.” You laughed, “I just wanted to give you a hard time. Although now that I think about it… there could be some cute proposal opportunities using her as your little wingman… wing..girl?”
“I’ll let you know if I need to borrow my niece.” He laughed. “For now though, I need to get back to base. I’ll see you after work. Do you need me to get Princess G from daycare or are you good?”
“I’m good. I’ll be out of here at a decent time today. I’m thinking about ordering pizzas for dinner though, that OK, I know we just had junk for lunch?” You asked.
“Of course.” He replied, “Tonight is a no pressure, relax and breathe easy night. Tomorrow night, we will celebrate at home, low key. Friday we’ll be over at Mav and Penny’s house getting things set up for Saturday.”
“Ok.” You smiled, “All planned out.”
“Yup!” He said, giving you a hug. “Don’t work too hard, I love you, Tulip.”
“Love you too, Jakey” You replied, “Be safe doing whatever you’re doing this afternoon.”
“Just instructing.” He laughed, “I’ll be on the ground while they’re doing simulations.”
“Perfect.” You beamed. “Tell my future sister in law I said ‘hi’”
“Will do.” He laughed.
The rest of the day went fast. Penny made it back just in time for you to head to pick up Gracie. Bradley called as you were getting in your car to let you know he was done for the day.
“Hey, Sweetheart.” He said, “I’m leaving base now, are you still at work?”
“I’m just leaving now to go get Gracie.” You replied, starting the car.
“I’m going to run by the house to grab clean clothes and a shower then I’ll be over.” He said, “Do you need me to stop to pick anything up?”
“Nope, we’re ordering pizzas tonight for dinner.” You said, “Unless you want something else…”
“Pizza is perfect, Baby.” He replied, you could hear the smile in his voice. “I’ll see you soon. I love you.”
“Love you too. Drive safe.” You replied.
“You too. You’re both precious cargo!” He said.
After picking up Gracie from daycare and getting home, you got her a snack while you pulled out stuff to throw together a quick dump cake. You didn’t feel like cooking dinner but you were never too tired to make a dessert. You knew both Bradley and Jake loved the caramel apple dump cake you made for several of the dinner nights and it was really quick and easy so you didn’t mind.
“Gracie, do you wanna help Mommy make a cake for Daddy and Uncle Jakey?” You asked her. Your daughter loved to help in the kitchen and you loved the quality time with her.
“Yes!” She exclaimed, happy to help bake, especially for her two favorite people.
“Hop on over here my sweet girl!” You said, smiling, pulling up the step stool you sometimes used to reach stuff on the top shelves. You definitely did not inherit any of the height genes in your family. Jake got all of those. You helped your daughter carefully climb up on the step so she could reach the counter better and the two of you set to work dumping ingredients into the glass cake pan.  You had just finished and were putting the pan into the oven when the front door opened.
“Honey, we’re home!” Jake called. You could hear Bradley laughing as he came in behind him. “Where are our girls?”
“Unco JAKEY!” Gracie yelled, jumping down from the step stool and tearing off towards the living room. “DADDY!”
“There’s my Princess G!” Jake said, picking her up. “How’s my best girl?”
“I good!” She replied, kissing him on his cheek, “Unco Jakey, you pway wif me?”
“I will absolutely play with you, Baby girl.” He said, “Let me change quickly first, ok?”
“OK!” She replied, reaching over to Bradley, “Gimme Daddy!”  Jake laughed, passing her over to Bradley before heading to his room to shower and change out of his uniform.
“Hi Princess.” Bradley said, taking her from Jake and hugging her close, “I missed you so much today. Did you have a good day?”
“I missed you too Daddy.” She replied, “I pwayed wif my fwends today and den Mommy bwinged me home and we maked you and Unco Jakey a cake!”
“You did?” He asked, “Thank you, my Gracie girl! I can’t wait to eat the cake. I’m sure it’s the best cake ever.”
“I wuv you Daddy!” She said, grabbing his face and giving him a very big kiss. “We go wiv at your house now?”
“I love you too, Princess,” He chuckled, “We have to wait just a little bit longer. We have to make sure your brand new room is ready first.”
“Ok, Daddy.” She sighed, “You stay wif me and Mommy?”
“Of course, Princess.” He promised, “I’ll stay right here with you and Mommy, Ok?”
“Ok!” She said.
“Someone is turning into quite the Daddy’s girl.” You smiled, coming into the living room.
“Are you a Daddy’s girl, Gracie?” Bradley asked her, tickling her tummy as he held her. “I think you’re Momma’s little angel.”
“I am Mommy’s and Daddy’s pwincess!” She declared.
“Yes you are.” You laughed.
The night is relaxed. Jake and Bradley do their best to keep your mind off the hearing coming up the next day. Jake ordered pizzas to be delivered before he left base so they arrived not long after they’d gotten home. Once dinner was finished the three of you had taken Gracie out to the backyard to let her run around and run off some energy.
“I think you’re going to need to find that castle playsets to put in your backyard Rooster.” Jake said, “Princess G is going to need swings and stuff to play on.”
“I’ve been looking at some actually.” Bradley said, pulling his phone out to show Jake the playsets. You just laughed, shaking your head. You’ve given up trying to reign these two fools in anymore.
After a while you took Gracie in to wash her hands and let her help you dish up the cake the two of you had made and then you carried it out to the back so you could all eat dessert outside. The guys made sure to praise her (and you) for how delicious it was and how much they loved it. Gracie was over the moon that her two favorite people loved the cake so much.
By the time bedtime rolled around, Gracie was worn out. She requested that Uncle Jakey tuck her in and read her bedtime book, which he was more than happy to do.
“Want a glass of wine or a beer, Sweetheart?” Bradley asked, heading to the kitchen.
“Wine please.” You said, sinking down onto the couch.
He returned a minute later with a bottle of beer for himself and a glass of wine for you. Handing you the wine, he sat down, before pulling you into his side, wrapping his free arm around you. You rested your head against his shoulder and took a sip of your wine.
“I can hear your thoughts from up here, Sweetheart.” He teased, gently. “You’re supposed to be relaxing.”
“I am relaxed” You argued, looking up at him and sticking your tongue out. “I just… happen to also be thinking.”
“About tomorrow? Or non-stressful stuff?” He asked, kissing the top of your head.
“Both.” You replied honestly. “I’m mentally preparing myself for tomorrow and thinking ahead for the good stuff.”
“I can accept that.” He replied, “Let’s sort through the thoughts on tomorrow first. What are you thinking?”
“I just keep worrying something will go wrong, so I’m preparing myself in case we don’t get the outcome we want.” You admitted.
“That’s fair.” He said, “Considering everything you’ve gone through up to this point, Sweetheart, I can absolutely understand why you’re planning for the worst. It breaks my heart that it’s your default and I am making it my mission from now until forever to change your default to only expect the best that life has to offer.”
“I love you.” You whispered, turning your head into his chest. “I WANT forever with you Bradley Bradshaw.”
“I love you too, Baby Girl.” He said, setting his beer on the coffee table and using his now free hand to tip your chin up to face him, leaning down to kiss you softly.
“Alright, no making out in front of me.” Jake whined, coming into the living room. “Don’t make me separate you two.”
“Way to ruin a moment, Seresin.” Bradley said, glaring playfully at Jake.
“Sorry, not sorry.” He winked, plopping himself down on the other end of the couch. “What are we watching tonight? RomCom? Action? Comedy?”
“What’ll it be, Sweetheart?” Bradley asks.
“Sweet Home Alabama” You picked immediately, causing both men to groan. “It’s GOOD!”
“Sure…” Jake said, grabbing the remote from the coffee table and turning on the TV.
You spent the next couple of hours snuggled into Bradley watching your favorite RomCom. You started to drift off towards the end, relaxed and comfortable in Bradley’s embrace.
“Come on, Sweetheart.” He said softly, “You’re falling asleep, let’s get you to bed.”
“Goodnight Tulip.” Jake said, “Get some sleep, tomorrow’s gonna be a great day.”
“Night Jakey.” You replied, letting Bradley pull you up from the couch, “I hope you’re right.”
“I’m always right.” He winked.
The next morning, Jake took care of getting Gracie breakfast and getting her dressed while you got ready and Bradley kept you calm and together. Penny and Amelia arrived with coffee and pastries from the bakery down the road from her house. Once she was there to wrangle Gracie, Jake headed into his room to get ready.
“It’s going to be OK, Sweetheart.” Bradley reminded you before you headed down out to the kitchen, “No matter what happens today, you’ve got me, Baby. Gracie is not Trent’s. She calls me Daddy. She’s ours. I don’t care what the judge says. But they’re going to agree with us.”
“I love you.” You said, wrapping your arms around his middle and resting your head on his chest. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“You’ll never have to find out.” He promised, dropping a kiss onto your head and wrapping his own arms around you. “I love you too, Sweetheart.”
You arrived at the courthouse and made your way through security. Lauren was waiting on the other side to meet with you again prior to going into the hearing. “Good Morning!” She said, smiling, “Let’s head into the conference room and we can go over what to expect today.”
She led the three of you to the conference room across from the courtroom you’d be in for the hearing.
“Has there been any new developments in that asshole’s case?” Jake asked, sitting down on one side of you at the table, Bradley  sitting on the other.
“Actually, I have some pretty good news to share with you all” She replied, “I just got an update when I arrived this morning and then his lawyer requested to meet with me first thing.”
“I’m afraid to ask what he wants.” You said quietly, unwilling to get your hopes up or believe the good news would indeed be the news you were hoping for.
“I understand, given the history, that you’re apprehensive with anything coming from him.” Lauren said, smiling gently, “But, Y/N, I promise you, this is all good.”
“Lay it on us.” Bradley said, squeezing your hand in support, and offering you a smile.
“Alright, well first of all, given the fact that he did violate the order twice and got violent the second time, chances of leniency from the judge will be slim to none. His lawyer knows that and I am sure made him aware of that. Trent is looking at jail time regardless.” Lauren said, “The amount of time is what’s up in the air. His lawyer advised him to work with you and give you what you’d originally asked for ahead of the next hearing date and that it’ll help his image in court. It might go a little ways with that judge, I assure you, it won’t be enough to get him out of serving time. I wasn’t going to point that out to his lawyer though.”
“So… is he going to do it?” Jake asked, “Did the piece of shit finally agree to sign off all rights to Gracie?”
“He did.” She smiled, “I have the signed papers here, saying he’s willingly signing over full custody to you, Y/N. He doesn't want visitation rights.”
“Ok, so I have full custody.” You said, “But he’s still listed as the father on Gracie’s birth certificate. Can the judge change that today?”
“We will still ask for that here today.” She assured you. “With him willingly signing over custody and not wanting visitation, we can certainly take it one step forward and ask that all parental rights to Gracie be removed. In the event that something were to happen to you, he’d have zero claim to her.”
“I want that. I can’t let him get her.” You said, “If something happens to me, he cannot have her.”
“He won’t, Sweetheart.” Bradley promised, leaning over to kiss your head, “None of us will let that happen.”
“I can promise you that, Tulip.” Jake said, “He’d have to pry her from my dead cold fingers, and even then there’d be a whole squad of naval aviators right behind me in line to protect her.”
“And in addition to her many bodyguards,” Lauren said, “If the judge for whatever reason, does not remove him from the birth certificate or revoke parental rights, you can create a Will and specify who will become guardian to Gracie in the event that something happens to you. Regardless of what happens here today, I highly recommend you do that anyway.”
“Ok” You said, “Thank you. For everything. I will never be able to adequately put into words how grateful I am to you for everything you’ve done.”
“Y/N, I am more than happy to have been able to help you.” She replied, “I was lucky enough to have had someone there and able to help me when I was in your shoes and now it’s my turn to do the same. Seeing you get to move on and live the life you deserve and see Gracie get the family she deserves… the Daddy she deserves.. And has found Bradley… that’s payment enough.”
“Well, after all this you’re officially a part of our chaotic family, so we’d love it if you'd join us Saturday for Gracie’s 3rd birthday party.” Jake said, “We…may have gone a little overboard on it.”
“We?” You laughed, “I’ve been doing all I can do to reign you idiots in. But absolutely, we would love for you to join us. I can definitely promise it’ll be a zoo…. And depending on how much these two have been planning when I’ve not been around… the zoo might be literal.”
“I would be honored to come celebrate your sweet little girl turning 3.” She replied, “I look forward to seeing what these two have planned.”
“You might not say that when you see what they’re capable of.” You replied, laughing.
“Alright, let’s go ahead and head into the courtroom.” Lauren said, “It’ll be a closed room because it’s for a minor.”
You filed out, following Lauren across the hall to the courtroom. Before entering you saw a familiar face heading towards you down the hall in service khakis. You smiled, nudging Jake.
“Looks like someone snuck away from base.” You said.
“Sweets, what are you doin’ here?” Jake asked, a huge smile spreading across his face at the sight of Phoenix walking towards you all.
“Wasn’t going to miss this for the world.” She replied, pulling him into a hug when she got to him. “Figured you could all use the extra support, so I got Admiral Simpson to give me the morning off. Mav’s covering for me.”
“I love you, Nat.” Jake said, hugging her back. “Thank you for being here.”
“Love you too, Jake.” She replied, “Let’s go free Princess G.”
“Thank you, Nat.” You said, hugging her before you all went inside. “You’re the best.”
“You’re the first female best friend I’ve literally ever had, Y/N.” She chuckled, “My sister from another mister.”
You all made your way inside the courtroom and took a seat at the front. You sat with Lauren on one side. Trent’s lawyer appeared for him, sitting on the other side of the room.
Once the judge entered and took his place, he quickly reviewed the files in front of him, including the additions placed in the file that morning.
“Ms. Kennedy, have you had time to review the new proposals submitted this morning from opposing counsel?” The judge asked.
“I have your honor.” She replied, “Ms. Seresin accepts the offer of full custody and zero visitation stipulation offered from her ex-husband. Your honor we also are requesting that Trent’s parental rights be completely repealed and his name be removed from the minor child’s birth certificate.”
“Ms. Seresin, is there a reason you are asking for her father to essentially be expunged from your daughter’s history?” The judge asked, directing his question to you.
You looked at Lauren who nodded encouragingly at you, before looking back at Bradley who gave you a soft smile. Taking a deep breath you stood up and addressed the judge.
“Your honor, with all due respect, Trent may have contributed the DNA needed to create Gracie that was where his contribution ended, Sir.” You said, “He has never, in her entire life, shown any interest in being her father, apart from when she could be used as a pawn to control me. He wasn’t there when I gave birth to her, You Honor. He hasn’t been there any time she’s been sick or had a bad dream, said her first words, or took her first steps. She hasn’t asked about him one time since we left Texas, nor has she ever called him Daddy.” You paused, taking a  steadying breath, looking back at your brother and Bradley again. “But, my daughter Gracie does have a Daddy. One that she loves very much, Sir. He may not have given her his DNA, but he gives her his love, he shows up, he loves her unconditionally and has done so since the first day he met her. He’s the one she calls Daddy and who she thinks hung the moon.”
“I appreciate what you’re saying, Ms. Seresin.” The judge answered, “Given what I’ve seen in the files here and from conversations I’ve had with Judge Edwards prior to today, I understand where you’re coming from. Strictly looking at the facts on the paper, Ms. Seresin from the two violations of the protection order already, the second being your ex husband attempting to forcefully remove you and the minor child from your residence, it is of my opinion that it is in fact in the best interest of the child to terminate paternal parental rights and in doing so I will grant your request to have his name removed from the birth certificate. You will, however, need to file that with the county in which she was born, which is in Texas if I am not mistaken.”
“You are correct, Your Honor,” You answered, choking on emotions, “Thank you, Sir.”
“I’m assuming the man your daughter has claimed for her dad is here today?” He asked.
“Yes, Your Honor.” You replied, glancing back at Bradley, smiling through your tears. You noticed, he was wiping his own away from his eyes, smiling right back at you.
“I trust that you understand what an absolute honor it is that this little girl has chosen you to be her person?” The judge asked Bradley. “That her mother is putting her faith in you to be the father her little girl deserves?”
“I do, Your Honor.” He replied, “It’s not something I take lightly, Sir. I’d do anything, give anything to ensure both of them are taken care of, loved, and happy.”
“Will I be seeing you back in here at some point down the line to make your father title official?” The judge asked, smiling for the first time at both you and Bradley.
“I would love nothing more, Sir.” He replied, “But official paper or not, Gracie is my daughter.”
“Good to hear.” He replied, “Alright, Counselor, you can tell your client all parental rights are hereby stripped, effective immediately. Ms. Seresin, I know it’s been a long and rough road for you and that little girl. Once you walk out those doors today, it’s all in the past. Focus on the future and the life you’ve already started on building for you and Miss Gracie.”
“Thank You, Sir.” You replied, choking back a sob. It felt like the entire weight of the world had been lifted from your shoulders. For the first time in a long time you could truly breathe. It was over. You had been freed from the nightmare, and now your daughter was too.
“Congratulations, Y/N.” Lauren said, pulling you into a hug, “It’s all over, Sweetie. You did it. Let’s get you all out of here and across to the conference room so you have some privacy.”
She ushered the four of you across the hall, back to the same conference room you’d been in prior to the hearing.
“I’m going to take care of filing these right now to give you all some time.” She said, “I’ll be back in a bit and we can go over the process to get her birth certificate changed.” She left the room, softly closing the door behind her.
“You did it, Tulip!” Jake said, pulling you into him and hugging you tightly, “You got our Princess G freed from that dickhead! I am so fucking proud of you, Y/N.”
You let him hold you, hugging him back just as tight. All of the lingering stress and anxiety from the last few months seemed to leave you at that moment, an intense feeling of pure relief washing over you.
“He can’t touch us anymore, Jakey.” You whispered, “We’re free.”
“You are.” He confirmed, “You’re so so strong, Tulip. You went in there and didn’t give that judge a chance to even think about deciding anything else. You are one hell of a momma bear. Princess G is so damn lucky to have you for her Momma.”
“He’s right, Y/N.” Phoenix agreed, “You were so fierce and strong this whole time. You’re so much braver than anyone I know… and I fly with some crazy ass people.”
You laughed, wiping the tears from your eyes.
“Come here, Sweetheart.” Bradley said, his voice rough from the emotions he was fighting back. Jake released you, stepping back to place his arm around Phoenix while you stepped into Bradley’s outstretched arms. He simply held you tight for several moments, just needing to have you close and feel you in his arms. You needed the same so you were content to just let him hold you.  “I love you so much, Baby. I can’t even put into words how proud I am of you for standing your ground in there today and not only speaking up about exactly what a useless piece of trash Trent is but for what you told the judge about me… and being Gracie’s real dad. I meant what I said to the judge too… I would absolutely make it official at any point, but papers or no papers, she’ll always be my little girl. I plan to keep showing up, and loving her, and her mom, if that works for you?”
“That works for me.” You replied, smiling through your tears, “I love you too, Bradley… more than I ever thought I was capable of. I don’t know how Gracie and I got so lucky but, no take backs. You're ours now.”
“Strict no return policy, so you’re good.” He chuckled, leaning down to kiss you softly.
“Alright!” Jake exclaimed, “Celebratory dinner tonight. Just us, then we can celebrate with the whole group tomorrow while we set up for the party on Saturday.”
“Sounds amazing.” You said.
“Ok, I’ve filed the paperwork with the clerk.” Lauren said, coming back into the room. “Next steps, Y/N you will need to take copies of all of these to the courthouse in the county where Gracie was born and file to change her birth certificate and name. Once that is complete a new social security card can be issued with her new name. It can take weeks up to several months depending on their backlog.”
“Is it something that can be done through the mail?” Jake asked, knowing you weren’t crazy about going back to Texas.
“Unfortunately, no.” She said, “It’ll be a good opportunity to go through the house and get anything out that you wanted and close out any bank accounts while you’re there though. Use it as the closure that it is, Y/N. Afterwards you don’t ever have to step foot in Texas again.”
“You won’t be going alone, Tulip.” Jake promised.
“Damn straight you won’t.” Bradley agreed.
“I feel as though it’s safe to say that you’ll never be without a strong support system again, Y/N” Laurent smiled.
After thanking her again and giving her all the information for Gracie’s party on Saturday you all said your goodbyes and headed out of the courthouse.
“I’ll see you all at the house tonight.” Phoenix said, once you were all outside. “I have to head back to base.Y/N, I’m so happy for you and Gracie. I love you both so much.” She stepped over to you, pulling you into a hug.
“Thank you so much for being here, Nat.” You said, hugging her back. “I love you too!”
“I’ll walk with you to your car, Sweets.” Jake said, “I’ll be right back.”
Jake walked with Phoenix over to her car while you and Bradley made your way to the Bronco. Before getting in, he pulled you into his arms, his head dipping down to claim your lips in a tender kiss.
“I love you.” He said, pulling away just enough to rest his forehead against yours.
“I love you too.” You replied, smiling. “Looks like we have a lot to celebrate this weekend.”
“So much to celebrate, Sweetheart.” He agreed. “And we’re just getting started.”
