Does it surprise you, when you see the autumn leaves darken like blood, like the trees are bleeding out their last mournful farewells to the warmth?

Even when you knew all too well that it would happen? Because you know the seasons, you anticipate the pain...

But does it surprise you every time that it's come so soon?

When just yesterday the warm summer rain refused to fall. The mosquitoes rose in thick, angry clouds.

But the trees. They mourn.

Suprise can be true for some. Yet to those who feel as old as those mourning trees, time passes as swiftly as the flap of a bird's wing. As swiftly as a leaf falls from the tree come those autumn months.

Anticipation keeps our minds captive, just when will the leaves bleed and cry? Torn from homes known all their lives. Just when will the air turn cold? No longer full of sweet summer.

One can only guess, anticipate and worry.

Yet it suprises us just the same. Perhaps it came sooner, later. But still, the leaves bleed and the trees mourn with the cold wind whispering in our ears.

Sometimes I wish I was like the others, to whom time passes in a blur. As they live life in a way that seems timeless. Yet I do not at the same time. Wondering what I'd be missing in those short lived moments. Just what happened those years ago? Would I never know?

To me, time still feels endless. Does it feel endless to you?

Do those days of light streaking across the sky that fades into deep darkness with dazzling stars keep you for eons?

Or is everything nothing but a blink? Once it was winter now it is summer, does it feel the same? Does the speeding tempo of time's sound the same to that slow, steadiness of nature?

with my fourth rewrite officially started, it was time for an updated wip intro! some settings, conflicts, and character arcs have drastically changed, but we're hauling ass to finish this damn thing.

Genre: Myth retelling

🏛️ SUMMARY

a hades and persephone myth retelling in which kore, newly dead, is taken to the underworld to rot as mortals do. when hades discovers she is the godly offspring of his older siblings, he tricks her into eating pomegranate seeds and siphons her abilities into his own domain, unleashing a curse that ultimately causes him to start to decay.

NAMESAKE explores stolen girlhood, death and rebirth, patriarchal structures, grief and atonement, and redeemed villains through lyrical, flowery prose. this novel is ideal for devourers of anne carson's translations, circe by madeline miller, and ardent readers of louise glück.

follow along as demeter receives her deserved redemption arc as her harrowing grief threatens the balance of life and death; kore blooms into persephone, queen of the underworld and polluter of the gaian realm with festering necromancy; and hades uncovers a love for humanity and what it means to have agency in a body robbed of it.

Artemis + her relationships with other Theoi 🌙🏹🦌

One of the amazing things about Lady Artemis is how versatile her domain is. Here are just some of the prominent theoi she is connected to.

Artemis + Ares 💥

- These two were celebrated together during Kharisteria/Charisteria ('thanksgiving'), which took place on the sixth day of Boedromion.

- Goats were sacrificed jointly to Artemis and Ares for their roles in battle and war.

- Even though Artemis is not technically a 'goddess of war', her role as the (sometimes brutal) hunter gave her an association with battle and death. They were also both patron deities of the Amazons.

Artemis + Apollon 🎼

- Perhaps her most famous connection is to that of her twin brother. They are opposites but are also, in a certain sense, two sides of the same coin.

- Apollon is the warmth of the sun, Artemis is the light of the moon. (They also shared the epithet 'light-bringer') They compliment each other while contrasting.

- They are day and night, city and country. They complete a cycle, making them almost inextricably interconnected in myth. Yet they also share domain over hunting, healing, death, and even music.

- The muses, who were led by Apollon, were often seen accompanying Artemis and her nymphs as she danced through the forest. Dance and music were also vitally important in her rituals.

- Artemis and Dionysus are both deities of the thin line between us and animals/'beasts.' They symbolize our own wild nature and what it means to succumb to it.

- They historically shared in rituals of 'frenzy', release, and estastic dance. Both are deities of revolutionary liberation and freedom.

Artemis + Hekate 🔥

- These two goddesses are so heavily connected that many conflate/synchronize them. They are both deities associated with the night, the moon, and for their roles in protecting the young/children.

- The Roman goddess Diana Trivia is sometimes thought to be a syncretism of Luna/Selene, Artemis/Diana, and Hekate/Trivia.

- They were both known to hold torches and snakes, and some say that it was Artemis instead of Hekate who used her light to guide Demeter to Persephone during her search. Although most still contribute this part of the story to Hekate, it shows how conflated the two goddesses are.

- In some versions of their stories, Iphigenia was 'turned into' Hekate by Artemis. In others, Artemis 'became' Hekate as a companion of Persephone after her descent into the Underworld. Variations of Hekate's name were also epithets of Artemis.

- It is said that these two were raised together, perhaps with Athena, prior to her descent into the Underworld. They also share domain over nature and vegetation.

- In the Homeric Hymn II to Demeter, (and many other sources) it is said that Artemis and Persephone were picking flowers (sometimes with Athena) when she was taken.

- When Persephone returns from the Underworld, we can only assume that the two sisters and childhood friends are reunited just as she is reunited with Demeter.

- Hekate is also considered to be Persephone's companion in the Underworld. So if one syncretises the two, Artemis-Hekate would be her companion year round!

- As well as being deities of vegetation, Artemis is connected to both Persephone and Demeter in their roles in the Eleusinian Mysteries (Hekate also had a prominent role in this tradition).

- The mysterious goddess Despoine, also central to the Eleusinian Mysteries, is thought to be Persephone, Hekate, Artemis, or some syncretism of them.

- The sanctuary of Despoine, which was vital to the tradition of the Eleusinian Mysteries, was in Arcadia. At this sanctuary, Pausanias stated that multiple representations of Artemis could be found; including a 'six foot tall bronze statue' which stood guardian in front of the entrance to the mystery cult.

- A theory states that Demeter is actually the mother of Artemis, while Leto is her 'sister' or 'nurse.' Pausanias claims that "Artemis was the daughter, not of Leto but of Demeter, which is the Egyptian account."

- It is traditionly stated that Selene is the personification of the moon itself while Artemis is a goddess of the moon.

- At some point, the two were congealed/synchronized as Artemis became more and more heavily associated with the moon. The Roman goddess Diana almost certainly involved syncretism between the two.

Artemis + Pan 🌿

- Artemis and Pan are both deities of the wild, pastures, woodland, animals, and the country. Rural deities with connections to dance and music, these two have a similar untamed persona.

- Pan gave Artemis a pack of seven hunting dogs as a gift, showing their companionship. Pan also famously had a love affair with Selene, so syncretism between Artemis and Selene also connects her to Pan.

Artemis + Zeus ⛈️

- Artemis has always been a favored daughter of her father. Perhaps their most famous interaction occurs from Callimachus when Artemis, still a child, presents Zeus with a list of requests - including her 'eternal virginity'.

- Zeus is happy to oblige and gives her all that she desired and more. This unconditional love and acceptance illustrates Zeus' affection for his feral daugher of the forest.

- Artemis and Athena share many similar qualities, including their 'chasity' and their choice to remain 'virgins' (in the historical sense of the word).

- As mentioned above, Persephone, Athena, and Artemis are said to have grown up together and were seen picking flowers together.

- As with Artemis' connection to Ares, Athena's domain of war, battle, and death are also connected to Artemis. Their sterness, intensity, and ability to commit violence when deemed necessary connect the two deities.

- While these two were often in conflict with each other in myth, they still share connections. In historical celebration and ritual, women/girls progressing to adulthood and/or entering into marriage were ceremoniously passed from Artemis' protection to Hera's. They shared space in the context of transitions.

- In addition, Artemis has been heavily conflated with Eileithyia, a goddess of childbirth and daugher of Hera. 'Eileithyia' has even served as an epithet of Artemis.

Nós, enquanto moderadoras, sempre mantivemos o contato direto com nossos players, buscamos, por meio do diálogo, escutá-los e buscar solução de quaisquer que sejam os problemas que venham a aparecer e, é por meio dessa troca de interação sincera, que muitos já se abriram conosco sobre detalhes íntimos e situações sensíveis e pessoais. E, em resposta a todo esse apego, abertura e a confiança que depositam em nós quando vocês vem desabafar, é que viemos aqui também nos abrir.

Vocês não são obrigados a ler nossas palavras e entenderemos todos que optarem por pular, não há problema algum nisso. Até porque, isso não é um meio de dar bronca, pois não possuímos quase nada de negativo para falar aos nossos players, vocês sempre nos deram muito orgulho, sempre se puseram à frente para nos trazer feedbacks sinceros e alternativas sobre os problemas que enfrentamos, somos muito felizes por termos vocês conosco e agradecemos muito cada carinho recebido.

Antes de tudo, queremos deixar claro que isso não é um fechamento, não estamos vindo anunciar isso, então podem ficar sossegados, pois vocês não ficarão sem um lar. Apenas viemos comunicar sobre uma diminuída na atividade e é apenas isso! Então, aqueles que não se sentirem à vontade para continuar a leitura, podem parar por aqui, aos demais, apenas iremos explicar como trouxemos essa decisão à tona.

Desde o início sempre nos esforçamos e demos tudo de nós, para responder e cumprir com nossos deveres, trazendo eventos, plotdrops, buscando formas de resolver intrigas, das mais simples até as mais complicadas e, por mais que seja algo que cada uma de nós descobriu adorar fazer: moderar, em meio aos passos que demos, começamos a notar que temos dado tanta atenção a isso, que sequer estamos conseguindo separar um tempo para fazermos nossas obrigações OOC, momentos de descanso ou, até mesmo, jogar junto com vocês.

Sim, muitos nos vieram falar diversas vezes sobre como precisávamos descansar, beber água, dormir (especialmente durante a abertura, em que viramos cerca de três noites para podermos cumprir com os prazos), mas somos teimosas e isso não é e nunca foi culpa de vocês. Foram escolhas NOSSAS, entendem? Nós que escolhemos virar cada uma das noites que viramos até hoje para preparar eventos, atividades, arrumar as aceitações, detalhar design do tumblr, nós que decidimos cancelar compromissos da vida real para podermos resolver as questões da comunidade, pois sempre, a todo momento, quisemos trazer o melhor e o máximo de nós para que cada mínimo detalhe estivesse perfeito para vocês. Infelizmente, nem mesmo tivemos tempo adequado para conseguirmos jogar em nossa própria comunidade e isso pode ser um pouco triste, se parar para pensar que o intuito inicial era trazer um ambiente em que conseguíssemos nos divertir também. Algumas das modinhas foram de unfollow ao notar que não estavam conseguindo cumprir com a atividade ideal para não cair de AC que, pasmem, já é considerado longo. Outras ainda lutam para manter o personagem ativo enquanto buscam conciliar com as obrigações OOC e tarefas da moderação.

Até que chegou um momento em que a palavra “cansaço” veio à tona. Não por causa dos nossos players, pois eles, em sua maioria, não nos trazem problemas. Não por causa de haters, pois sequer ligamos para os comentários não construtivos, tanto que muitos de vocês já devem ter percebido como vivemos fazendo piada com eles. Não por causa de brigas, pois nós sempre buscamos separar a amizade que nutrimos uma pela outra, do nosso papel como moderação. Mas sim, pelas nossas próprias escolhas e teimosias. E, sendo transparente com vocês, como sempre fomos e sempre pretendemos ser: o fechamento foi sim, uma possibilidade que veio à nós. Chegamos a definir possíveis datas, pensamos até em finalizar em dezembro, mas após longas conversas e desabafos trocados, inclusive com colegas de fora da moderação, decidimos acalmar o ritmo. E, durante uma dessas conversas que tivemos sobre o assunto, chegamos em algumas conclusões:

1. Se, em algum momento, realmente decidirmos pelo fechamento, nós não vamos fazê-lo da noite para o dia.

Isso não é nenhum tipo de ataque a nenhuma comunidade, mas sim uma escolha nossa para o que nós achamos melhor aos nossos players. Se isso realmente vier a acontecer, nós iremos falar com vocês primeiro. Falaremos sobre o assunto com sinceridade e traremos datas, pois assim, pensamos que será mais fácil e menos desesperador para que consigam ver as comunidades que estarão abertas no futuro, para decidirem, com calma, onde irão, que rumo os plots levarão, se irão encerrar ou continuar em outro lugar ou, até mesmo, em 1x1. Não achamos legal a ideia de pensar que poderão dormir e, no dia seguinte, acordar com uma nota de fechamento, do nada, estampado na face de vocês, sabe? Então preferimos definir esse cuidado que, talvez, possa não fazer diferença para alguns, um grande número de unfollow pode vir quando anunciarmos, antes mesmo do dia definitivo mencionado, mas é algo que decidimos por nós mesmas ao colocarmos em pauta todo o carinho que nos é mostrado. Mais uma vez: nós não vamos fechar a comunidade agora. Isso não é uma nota de encerramento!

2. Vocês sabem como somos molengas.

Somos apaixonadas pelo que fizemos em conjunto, não apenas entre nós quatro, mas também com vocês: cada personagem que há aqui nós temos um carinho grande, pode ser que pensem que cada um não basta de um único player, mas saibam que é muito além disso. Como falamos numa ask anterior, vemos vocês com um carinho especial que nutrimos com o passar do tempo. Independente de sermos mais novas ou mais velhas que vocês: podem nos chamar de tias, AUHSUASH. Não conseguiríamos dar adeus a algo tão maravilhoso assim de uma hora pra outra.

3. Compreendemos que, nesse problema que levantamos, pode haver solução.

Se nos esforçarmos tanto para trazer um ambiente em pura perfeição, nos dá cansaço, então, uma forma de tentar evitar que essa sensação de exaustão se alastre é: diminuir o ritmo. Mas ó, se acalmem! Não entendam errado, não iremos deixar vocês jogados por aí. Apenas iremos diminuir a quantidade de eventos e atividades grandes. Não deixaremos nossa essência de lado, então saibam que ainda estaremos por aqui, do nosso jeitinho de sempre, prontas para fazer brincadeirinhas, trazer jogos e inovações, porém, em um ritmo menor e, principalmente, tentaremos seguir com o período ideal de resposta, colocado na página da moderação. Acho que sequer devem saber que tínhamos definido dias e horários para respondermos as coisas da comunidade, né? Quantas vezes vocês nos viram respondendo coisas em plena madrugada? Pois é, hihihi, nunca seguimos o limite que nós próprias colocamos.

E sim, aos que vieram correndo pedindo por crossovers: nós pretendemos fazer outros, sim! Só que, mais futuramente, tudo bem? Agora, no momento, precisamos descansar um pouco.

Temos VÁRIAS e VÁRIAS ideias de eventos gigantes, plotdrops divertidos e reviravoltas para a Avenida Acropolis, então saibam que a falta de ideias não é e nunca foi um problema! Mas, para conseguirmos aplicá-los, precisamos estar com nossas energias nas alturas. Porque nós podemos até errar ao fazer atividades que passamos noites e madrugadas nos esforçando para organizar, mas nunca nos perdoaríamos em passar algo cheio de problemas para vocês, com a consciência de que sequer tentamos consertar com antecedência pra que desse certo.

Esperamos que possam compreender o nosso lado e agradecemos muito, a cada um que se deu ao trabalho de ler esse comunicado. Somos eternamente gratas por termos a sorte de ter vocês como players e esperamos que continuem conosco, mesmo nessa diminuição de ritmo.

Low energy Devotional Acts for when you don’t have a lot of energy (or time, or money, etc.) pt. 8

🌾Demeter🌾

- if able go on a walk and enjoy the outdoors doesn’t have to be anywhere fancy it could literally just be a walk around the block

- if you can’t go on a walk either sit outside for a bit or just open some windows for some fresh air

- play farming simulator (you think I’m joking but I’m not) or watch vids of ppl playing it

- watch documentaries or do a deep dive on farming and all the stuff that goes with it (maybe you’re wanting to know more about tractors, or farming techniques over the years, etc.)

- if able attend a farmer’s market or look into any that are in your area you don’t necessarily need to buy anything you could just go look around (I do that regularly)

- learn about the role of a farmer and what it’s like to be a farmer (I worked on a farm for a bit in high school and while I loved it I couldn’t do it as a living it takes a very special someone to do it) and look up ways you can support them

- learn about the native plants in your area

- watch foraging videos and learn about it (how to safely do it especially, if it’s something you wish to do at some point)

- if able support local farmers by buying their products (I know here in wi it’s not uncommon for farm stands to pop up this time of year and they sell all sorts of stuff for good prices! One in my town sells the best corn and for only $1 a piece which is perfect)

- point out cows, horses, sheep, goats, etc. while going by them in the car

- learn about homesteading and watch videos about it (though I will issue a heads up that some of these folks veer into uh….’crunchy’ beliefs so just be careful I guess)

- look up recipes you’re interested in trying, try to write your own recipe, or cook something using a family recipe/you’d own recipe if able

- enjoy a fruit, vegetable, or grain/bread product! Have some toast with jelly/jam! Have a salad! A fruit cup! The fruit/veggies can be frozen as well. It’s still that fruit/veggie.

- listen to a devotional playlist for Her

- listen to nature soundscapes

🦉Athena🦉

- learn your rights and by the gods I can’t stress this enough (if you rent learn your tenants rights, learn your workers rights, etc.)

- watch a war movie, show, or documentary (plugging Band of Brothers again because there’s some examples of excellent leadership and all that)

- read or listen to an audiobook about war (can be fiction or nonfiction- my personal favorite is Conversations With Major Dick Winters it’s great)

- listen to a devotional playlist for Her

- is there a weapon you’re interested in? Or maybe a style of combat? Or something else pertaining to combat? Read about it! Watch a video about it!

- if able pick up a handicraft of some sort: knitting, crocheting, sewing, etc.)

- if unable to do that watch tutorial videos for it (I can knit but can’t crochet to save my life but I love watching crocheting videos)

- read or listen to an audiobook about literally anything

- if you’re a student, and are able, do some studying

- or just watch documentaries or read articles and such about stuff that interests you

- if able play a strategy game if unable to do so look up videos for techniques for strategy games you like and pick up some new tricks for when you next play!

- if able do a puzzle (can be as simple or complex as you want)

- if able do something like a word search, sudoko, crossword, etc.

🌾 Subtle Demeter Worship 🌻

Learn how to make homemade bread

Eat fruit and vegetables

Learn how to forage; picking safe berries, mushrooms, and the like (really do your research!!!)

Plant a garden; grow plants in your home/room

Support environmental or preservation organizations

Have a candle that reminds you of her (no altar needed)

Keep a picture of her in your wallet

Wear jewelry that reminds you of her

Honor the changing of the seasons; go outside to admire/respect the natural cycle of seasons

Pick up trash in your neighborhood or area

Visit a local forest or nature preserve; spend time there and explore

Observe wildlife in your area; bird-watching

Educate yourself on local flora and fauna

Have a snake or pig stuffed animal

Have imagery of flowers, fruit, or cornucopia

Learn how to cook or bake

Bake pastries for yourself or loved ones, especially ones containing fruits

Spend time/play with any pets you have

Make flower crowns

Pick flowers (not from someone else's garden!)

Purchase produce from local farmers

Support local food banks

Make a warm meal for someone in need

Try writing your own recipes; try old family recipes, if any

Learn about local invasive species, plants or otherwise; get rid of any invasive plants you see, if safe to do so

Educate yourself on poisonous plants in order to avoid them

Drink natural teas; make your own herbal tea bags

Ground yourself in nature

Take a hike or walk outside

Sit in a field, and bask in the sunlight (during summer or spring)

Feed neighborhood cats, dogs, or birds

Volunteer at animal or homeless shelters

Donate food; canned foods and well-packaged foods are extremely helpful

Be kind to yourself; take care of yourself physically

Eat three meals a day

Bury the pits or seeds of fruits and veggies you eat; give back to the earth c:

Ω PJO DEMIGOD HEADCANONS: 🌾 DEMETER: Goddess of Agriculture and Fertility, of the Harvest & Sacred Law, of the Earth, of the Seasons, Nourishment & Bread 🌽

author's note: I had a sudden idea about writing some headcanons Camp Halfblood demigods being claimed and what it's like for each respective god and cabin, followed by a small blurb afterwards. Thank you for reading and please like and reblog! The order is not in order of the cabin numbers. [PJO DEMIGOD HEADCANONS MASTERLIST]

When you get claimed, the ground beneath you bursts with vegetation. You look around you and notice that among the vegetation, it’s your favourites. Your favourite flowers, fruit, vegetable, and plants. It’s almost like Demeter had been keeping an eye on you this entire time and this was her bouquet for you. A wreath of corn and plants sit upon your crown.

Your siblings cheer and help you take the bouquet of vegetation, taking the roots of each plant to be planted later on, and the rest is gathered. You’re introduced to your cabin and siblings with a small impromptu picnic of said-bouquet as you all break bread together. As you sink your teeth into the nearest food, it fills you with energy you’re not sure how to place other than it’s good.

There are plants everywhere in your cabin and the inside of the cabin is almost like a botanical garden that is also never uncomfortable to sleep in. You look around and you see plants hanging from above and/or rising above. Your bed smells like earth and flowers, and there are vines curling up around the frames. As soon you touch the bed, your bunk bed bursts into your favourite flowers and plants, providing you a little bit of comfort.

The wreath you were given hangs above your head and it remains fresh. It’s like a soft reminder of Demeter’s presence.

You help with the camp’s business of growing and maintaining the strawberries they grow, and you find out you and your siblings all get a small portion of the profits. It’s almost like an allowance for doing your chores.

Being a child of Demeter, you get along with the children of Dionysus and Mr. D.

You also get along with the dryads at camp, being the child of Demeter. There’s a sense of love and respect directed towards you. If you don’t know, you’re later told by one of your siblings, the dryads, or Mr. D himself.

Let’s just say, Demeter is very, very terrifying and you know when they say to never mess with Mother Nature.

Do not mistaken for weakness and unimportance as a child of Demeter. Demeter herself is powerful, and hopefully no one earns her ire.

People might not find your particularly threatening, but know that when the time comes, your hand that has handled the tools that till the earth, is just as practiced as a sword.

Flower power to the max. You can sprout the plants beneath your feet, from the smallest of weeds that can tear apart stone through their cracks, to the network of tree roots beneath your feet that grow and grow. Fungi are also on the table and boy, there's no way more terrifying then razing down enemies with the power of fungi. You carry an assortment of seeds with you and let me tell you, a whip made out of Rose thorns go hard.

You looked at the miniature garden beneath your feet. You quickly take in the fact the plants around you are your favourites. Your favourite fruits, flowers, herbs, plants in general. You can’t tell if it is the pollen or dust, but you feel your eyes prickling at the fact that maybe, Demeter had been keeping an eye on you when her claim brought about your favourites.

You felt the wreath of corn grow on top of your head, the vines and leaves moving and parting your hair behind your ear. It is soft, gentle, and deliberate, almost like a mother’s touch.

You see a bunch of campers take out shovels, spades, and other gardening tools and begin working at your feet, gathering the plants. A girl steps forward and she had her hands on her hips, giving you a smile.

“Don’t worry about the plants. Each new child of Demeter’s claim is different and their plants are a representation of them, so we like to gather the plants to celebrate. My name is Katie Gardner, child of Demeter and cabin leader. Welcome!”

You introduced yourself before catching some of the children of Demeter talk excitedly about what to make with the produce they had gathered. “So what’s going on now?”

Katie gently guides you to the Demeter Cabin as she explains. “To welcome each new addition to our cabin, we also like to hold an impromptu picnic if its early or late enough before meal times, and we use the plants from their claim as the centrepiece. This also lets us get to know each other, a bit of an ice breaker if you get what I mean.”

“That’s actually pretty cool” you said as she led you to your bunk.

“It is, right? I know we may not seem as cool compared to the other gods, but trust me, being a child of Demeter is just as great as the others. We’re just…more down to earth.”

The reaction you gave to Katie as she let out a laugh. “Got you right there” she giggled. “Come on, there’s plenty to show you!”
