Little Talks (Namor x f!Reader)

Request: Hii can you please write a namor x fem avenger reader where he’s yelling at her for being reckless during missions and he’s doing this because he cares and worries for her safety

Summary: You get hurt during a mission with SHIELD, and Namor is pissed at you for putting yourself in danger.

(Warnings: nothing crazy, minor descriptions of bruises/cuts, Maria is reader's unofficial adoptive parent, angry Namor, but he's only angry because you're an idiot and not taking care of yourself, fools in love, fluffy Namor, etc.)

The sky shook with thunder, and you braced yourself against the sides of the hangar as it began its slow descent towards Avenger’s headquarters. Every muscle in your body ached with fatigue and you were sure you’d be covered in bruises the next morning. You weren’t injured anywhere specific, but it hurt if you breathed too deeply and every time you tensed your jaw, you were reminded of the teeth-rattling punch you’d taken to the face earlier in the evening.

Everything went according to plan, sort of. You weren’t technically supposed to be in the line of fire, but you realized halfway through the plan that it would never work if you remained hidden, so you’d moseyed your way right into the den of thieves you were supposed to be quietly subduing. It wasn’t like you were an amateur. You’d been training all your life for situations like that one, and you’d be lying if you said the thrill of a physical fight didn’t get your blood pumping in excitement.

Unfortunately, the aftermath of your hasty decision had left you completely spent, covered in cuts and bruises, and if you twisted your body a certain way, a bone-deep rattling ache would claw its way through your ribs. You were alive, though, and you’d completed the mission, so you were content with calling it a win.

Agent Hill, on the other hand, had begun ranting in your earpiece about safety and backup the moment you’d stepped onto the hangar, and she wasn’t anywhere close to being finished. You listened intensely, unable to get a word in to defend yourself even if you wanted to.

The clang of the hangar hitting cement rattled through your body and you tried not to tense up too much as the aircraft landed. The sudden whir of the rear hatch opening had you moving, albeit slowly, towards the exit, eager to wash the dried blood from your skin. Agent Hill’s voice carried on through your earpiece, and when the hatch had fully opened, her voice flowed both in your ear and in through the air in front of you. You slid the earpiece out of your ear and watched as she stomped up the ramp, stopping in front of you.

“You’re lucky to be alive, girl.” She pointed her finger at your chest, grazing the material with the curve of her nail. Her tone was vice-like, a certain finality flowing through it, but the furrow in her brow revealed what she was trying so hard to hide – concern.

“Maria, I-” You lifted your hands in an innocent gesture as she cut you off.

“You not only jeopardized yourself, but also the mission. And for what? So you could get a few punches in? If you’re itching for a fight, I can get an intern to go a few rounds with you in the training arena, but you cannot just rush into dangerous situations with no backup. I trained you better than that.”

You nodded, agreeing with her in the hopes that she’d let you go shower and get the much-needed rest your body was screaming for. It probably should’ve bothered you that Maria treated you so differently than the rest of the Avengers. You were just as trained as they were, more versed in hand-to-hand combat than any of them, and you’d been smack dab in the middle of the battlefield when the Avengers had fought Thanos. But Maria hadn’t unofficially adopted any of the other Avengers when they were toddlers, so it didn’t bother you when she expected more from you. Maria had saved your life, raised you to live with honor, and personally trained you to be one of the most skilled Avengers on the planet. Letting her yell at you when you messed up was the least you could do for her.

“Go clean yourself up.” She muttered, shaking her head.

You stepped around her, intent on doing just that when her voice stopped you.

“He’s waiting for you over by the river.”

You swung around, studying her figure as she tapped away at her tablet, no doubt arranging the next set of missions you’d be sent on.

“You told him?” You groaned, palming your face. The ache in your jaw made you wince and rub the area more gently.

“He overheard mission control when you decided you wanted to go all Mission Impossible on those guys. I didn’t have to tell him anything.”

“Shit.” You shook your head. You’d thought you’d heard the last of it from Maria, but Namor knew what you’d done, and you knew he wouldn’t be happy with you. You slumped towards the elevator, realizing you would not be getting that rest you so desperately needed anytime soon.

After you scrubbed your skin raw in the shower, cleaning up the dried blood and dirt that had quite literally gotten into places it should never be, you stared at your reflection in the mirror. If you were being honest, it looked worse than it felt, but even you couldn’t ignore the steady drum of adrenaline that had yet to leave your body. Your jaw was slightly swollen, a purple bruise blooming from its underside. A cut along the line of your cheekbone was sure to leave a small scar, and you could physically feel the ache in your ribs every time you inhaled. Everything would hurt tomorrow, and you were not eager to feel the consequences of your ridiculously stupid actions.

You glanced toward your bed, so perfectly soft and comfortable and warm. You ached with desire to jump in it, to ignore the world for a few hours, but you could feel his call, deep in your bones, and it was something you’d never been able to ignore. He was waiting for you, and he would not leave until you showed yourself.

Come to me, in yakunaj. Show me what I almost lost tonight.

You trembled with anticipation. His voice, usually so soft and caressing, boomed with anger as he beckoned you to the river. You were left with no choice but to head down the elevator and out the door, towards the man who had stolen your heart and soul.

Namor met you on the riverbank, storming out of the water at a pace that would’ve been alarming to anyone else. His hands cupped your jaw tightly, and you winced when the ache in your jaw increased to an unbearable throb. He immediately moved his hand to cup the back of your neck, resting his forehead on yours. An apology, even though you didn’t feel like you deserved one.

He was quiet for a few minutes, homing in on the steady drum of your pulse beneath your skin. You leaned into his hold, wrapping your fingers around his wrists in a fierce hold.

“Do you not understand the depth of my love for you, in ch'ujuk?” He asked, pulling his head away from yours to look into your eyes.

“What?” You stuttered, unable to comprehend where he was going with his question.

“I have dedicated my life to protecting you, and you repay me by playing the fool?”

“Namor,” you furrowed your brow, shaking your head in confusion, “my love, what do you mean? I know that you love me. I don’t underst-”

His tone turned fierce, laced with a rage you had rarely seen before. “Then why do you throw yourself into such reckless situations? Do you not understand how terrifying it is to hear you struggling when I am so far away? When I cannot help you?”

An annoyance sparked in your chest, and you couldn’t help the anger from seeping into your tone in response. “It is my job to eliminate the enemy, Namor. I can take care of myself.”

Namor shook his head, clucking his tongue in anger. “Do not act like my anger is unwarranted. You made a reckless, stupid, decision tonight, and you could have died. Did you stop and think about where that would have left me? Without you, I am nothing.”

“You cannot ask me to give up the Avengers, Namor.” You jutted your chin out in defiance.

“I would never ask you to do that.” He replied in a hasty, ferocious tone. “But you cannot act like you are immortal, in yakunaj. You bleed like every other human being on the planet. You could have died, and that would have destroyed me. And Maria.”

“I’m fine,” you groaned, suddenly so sick of being coddled that you felt like screaming. “I wish everyone would stop treating me like I’m some fragile little flower. I am more than capable of handling a few bad guys who, I should add, didn’t even have guns!”

“In yakunaj,” Namor’s voice had cooled to a gentle caress, “You misunderstand me. I know, more than anyone, the power you hold. You are strong and you are used to being independent, but you cannot behave so recklessly when you have a family waiting for you at home.”

“A family?” You blinked back tears as the realization washed over you. Namor considered you his family, and you suddenly felt like an idiot for rushing into your mission so blindly.

“I love and protect you. You love and protect me. Is that not what makes a family?” He asked, slightly grinning.

“It is.” You murmured, leaning into his hold even further. You nestled your cheek against his chest where you could hear the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. “I’m sorry for worrying you.”

Namor wrapped his arms around you and rested his chin on your head.

“You are my life, in yakunaj. I would never forgive myself, or you, for that matter, if you got hurt.”

A laugh stuttered out of you, but it quickly evolved into a wince when you realized just how sore your ribs were. Namor wrapped his hand around yours and tugged you towards the water.

“Come, in yakunaj. The water will heal you.”

“I don’t think that’s how it works.” You giggled, kicking your shoes off.

“Don’t argue.” Namor grinned, watching as you stuffed your socks into your boots. “At the very least, it will soothe the ache for a while.”

You couldn’t help yourself. Before he could make it any further in the water, you jumped into his arms and planted a kiss on his lips. Your toes barely scratched the surface of the water as he held you up, smiling into the kiss. Your family was small, and rather unconventional, but you wouldn’t trade it for the world.

A/N: Ya'll know I'm messy so here's part 2 lol

Your heart pounded in your chest as you sat on the throne, your baby boy sleeping in your arm and wrapped in soft cloth to keep him warm and comfortable while you held your royal spear in the other, clenching your hand around it as the nervousness started to become very intense. The guards held their positions while staring at you, keeping you protected by every passing minute. A rush of gratefulness washed over you as it still was weird to have them in the palace, your own palace. The fact that they voluntarily followed you only made you even prouder as former Queen of Talokan as the biggest lessons had never been forgotten by your people: that you stuck together as a civilization through good and bad times.

You let out a shaky sigh before clearing your throat and raising your chin a little bit. reminding yourself who you are.

“He’s here”.

You spoke in a cold tone, sensing the waves of quick motions through the water. Your heart skipped a beat before it increased its pace again as you didn’t feel fully ready to face him again. Unfortunately, you didn’t have a choice, you couldn’t keep the secret to yourself as he had every right to know the reason why everything happened in the first place.

Just seconds later the giant doors to your throne room were slowly pushed open, half of your guards turning their bodies towards the new guest while the others ’s continued to face you. Your eyes immediately rested upon Namor who came swimming into the room with the help of one of his servants, his right foot wrapped in bandages and cuts and bruises resting all over his body.

You couldn’t hide the amused smirk when he approached you before kneeling down and keeping his head bowed down to show you his respect, his servant copying his actions a few feet behind him.

“Leave us. I’ll be fine. He won’t hurt me” you ordered, sensing the doubts of your guards as they feared for the life of their Queen but still obeyed you and made sure to stay outside the room in formation in case something would happen. Namor waited until the last guard left the room and closed the door before lifting his head up and finally looking at you.

Thud…

You listened to his heartbeat which was steady as a rock, his eyes filled with shame, sadness and love.

You continued to scan him from head to toe and couldn’t help but feel a sense of longing, desire and love wash over you as you looked at your husband. He had obviously gone through a lot the past months and you knew all about it because your spies kept you updated on his every move. You couldn’t deny that there were days where you wanted to end it all but you couldn’t do that as the former Queen of Talokan, and now current Queen of Talyra. You were raised to be strong, to not give up as there was always hope on the other side.

“Speak” you ordered.

“[Y/N], former Queen of Tenoch, Queen of Talyra, Mother of Tenoch and my wife, I am coming to you as a humbled King that has been defeated in a war I seeked out. Talokan has suffered a great loss, first of its Queen and now of its citizens….” tears brimmed the eyes of your husband as he allowed himself to sniffle and take a deep breath, his eyes still staring intensely into yours.

You nodded your head as a signal for him to continue.

“I-I lost everything….My honor as King of Talokan, the love of our grown children who have fled our shared palace to join you here and your love. I was a fool. Fooled myself into thinking that I would end up rising like a phoenix from the ashes without you. With someone new”.

You swallowed hard as anxiety.

“What do you want from me” you whispered softly.

“My Queen, please allow me to prove myself as a worthy husband and king to you again. Please forgive me for the hurt and pain I put you through and please let me prove that I’ve learned from this awful mistake and show you how much I still love you and will continue to love you”.

It’s time to show him, mama, the tiny voice from your son spoke in your head, making you look down at your baby boy who was now staring up at you, hiding in the royal wrap while his beautiful big brown eyes spoke to you. You nodded at him and smiled, making him let out an adorable giggle that made your and Namor’s heart flutter in happiness. He was bursting with anticipation to see his son. You averted your gaze back to your husband, dropped your spear and slowly rose from your throne and moved your way down the few steps before hovering in front of him.

“Stand up”.

“As you wish, my Queen”.

The two of you locked eyes once the king rose to his feet and for a split second, your souls connected again. Delicate shivers ran down your spine and your heart fluttered in your chest. Even when being apart for months, your love for him was as strong and powerful as it always had been.

“Look at your son” you shakingly whispered before removing the cloth covering your baby boy and tossing it to the ground. You held baby Namir in front of his father and watched pridefully how his tiny wings fluttered on his little feet. Your husband gasped in shock before kneeling down again, pressing his forehead against the floor while soft sobs left his body.

“The reason why you have been defeated is because you were never meant to win this war. You were never meant to rule over the dry lands. Our son Namir will ease us into a new era, an era where we might have to fight against the dry land walkers. But if we don’t, we will continue to develop into a stronger and smarter civilization. You and I will not live for eternity.”.

“I will spend the rest of my days fighting for your forgiveness, my Queen '', Namor vowed while intense shivers ran up and down his spine. He couldn’t put into words how proud yet ashamed he felt, proud for knowing that his legacy would never cease to exist but ashamed that he thought that he was worthy of eternal life. That he’d be the sole main ruler of Talokan.

He slowly got up to his feet and widened his arms towards Namir, silently asking you permission to hold his son and bond with him. The same way he always had held your other shared children and formed a beautiful bond.

“Not yet. Answer me this question” you spoke, having found your voice again while holding Namir in your arms again so that he could be comfortable.

“I will answer anything you ask me”.

“Was it worth it?”.

The King froze as he never blinked at your question.

“Yes. It was worth it”...”.

Thud…

“I’ve now realized that this was meant to happen…She was meant to happen” your husband spoke without his heart skipping a beat, telling the truth to you.

“I allowed my ego to become bigger than everything you and I have created. Bigger than you, our children and people. She and I were able to share the same generational hatred and disappointment. I confused our shared history of pain with love. We are allies, waiting to merge our forces when future generations attack us. Only allies”.

Tears brimmed your eyes as you nodded your head.

“I am still deeply wounded by your foolish and traitorous actions towards me and our marriage, Namor”, hearing you say his name made him fight back tears again.

“I built this city on my own, in honor of Namir. This is a sacred place I will not allow you or your enemies to destroy”.

“That will never happen”.

Talyra will continue to exist along with Talokan, am I clear?” you stated.

“Yes, my Queen”.

“You and I will continue to reign over Talokan and Tylara as equals. Our children will continue our legacy”, you took a deep breath, “I don’t know how long it’ll take for me to process what you put me through, I cannot guarantee full forgiveness”.

“I’ll make sure to show you every day that you are the love of my life, mother of my children and Queen of Talokan and my heart, even if you find me worthy of forgiveness, [Y/N]”, Namor vowed again before surprising you by gently approaching you and holding you and Namir close to him.

“I am nothing without you, [Y/N]”, Namor his lips against yours, pouring his undying love for you into the kiss and silently promising that he’ll do anything to help you heal from the wounds he inflicted. Your heart fluttered in your chest and you couldn’t help but slowly kiss back, not knowing how your marriage would continue after a disaster like this but hoping tht it would turn for the better. For you, your children and the people of Talokan.

girl I'm down bad for tenoch, like i havent been in a long time for a male celebrity. i am obsessed!! his birthday is tomorrow!

i have so much curiosity about him (as a person, you know), like does he believe in astrology? hes such an aquarius! and because of that, the answer could be yes or no hahah

I have been practicing my spanish more nowadays; i have read almost every single tweet this man has tweeted. im currently reading his book (which is amazing!! must read for people who want to know more about mexicos power dynamics, racism, colorism! very enlightening; as a latina myself, i could swap mexico to my countrys name and it would fit perfectly) (also he is very articulated, intelligent and funny! such an easy-going read besides the theme).

whats his favorite book? what kind of songs he listens to? share your spotify account with me tenoch!!

whats his comfort food? whats his WhatsApp profile picture? is it from a professional shoot or a selfie he took on his phone? did he cave in and bought an iphone? did he have pets growing up? whos taking care of his plants back home?

does he have a nickname? maybe 'Té', or 'Noche'? or is it something that has nothing in common with his name (my family nickname is completely different from my given name)?

and so on so on!! i need ANSWERS!! necesito tomarme un trago con el!! necesito pachequearme y hablar de la vida con este hombre!!!

Same. Like I literally found myself back on this godforsaken site after years because I needed to be able to vent about my love and obsession for this man.

Oh I would love to know his random opinions and his belief systems. I think he would find it amusing that we have looked up his astrological chart to the best of our abilities. Like he would definitely think "wow thats extensive" but he wouldn't make fun of it like some guys do.

So I know like very rudimentary Spanish that I learned because of my job. I got so often mistaken as some type of latin or hispanic person that it was easier to learn enough Spanish to get by and guests were always so understanding. "Oh she can understand us but it's hard for her to reply." I want to learn more Spanish but I don't have the time right now. I wish I could read his book but a translation isn't out yet.

As a filipino I feel like there will be a lot for me to relate to in the book considering the rampant colorism in all parts of Asia. Filipinos are often referred to as the 'Mexicans' of Asia. Which is weird but also fitting. What snippets of translation I've seen have been so interesting though.

I know he hates reggaeton with so much passion its kind of hysterical. I think I remember him mentioning one of his favorite books in an interview but I can't remember off the top of my head. I knoooow this man has all kinds of proud Latin music on his playlist. Also unabashed bangers like Selena.

He apparently has a screenshot from his whatsapp on his twitter somewhere and I think it's like a normal pic not anything professional.

DOES TENOCH HAVE PLANTS? THAT IS THE QUESTION I NEED ANSWERED BECAUSE I AM A PLANT MOM!

Did you see that interview where he was mad hungry and eating the food the interviewer bought him? I wonder if he's one of those mexican dads who is willing to try a bunch of stuff or if he's the type to always choose latin food over anything else.

I've seen some of his activist friends call him 'Noch' or 'Nochie' I also know that Diego Luna specifically calls him 'chiquitin'. And that makes me giggle because I think he smiles his stupid cute smile every time Diego calls him that.

LOL I have two first names and depending on who you are decides which one you call me. So I don't have any nicknames. Everyone would just get even more confused.

I wanna talk to him about everything, life, love, politics, bull shit, the things that make us happy, the things that make us sad. I wanna talk about our pasts, our futures, our dreams.

I want his advice. Like I bet he gives the best life advice.

Hello! Because of my love for Wakanda Forever in all of its GLORY, I have been sucked back into the world of fanfiction!

Formerly known as @krockafella, I actually came back to Tumblr after I left all social media over a year ago, because I am truly hyper-fixated on Tenoch Huerta after his turn as Namor in BPWF. Also the performances that Letitia Wright and Angela Bassett gave in this film deserved all of the awards! Those women, along with Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o are the backbone AND the meat of the film, no question. This film, more than even the first, has me thinking about it and consuming content/media about it almost obsessively now days. Y'all know how it goes.

So now, during this phase of hyper-fixation, I am interested in exploring these characters and reading the ways in which others interpret their motivations and arcs in their writing.

Fic writers in this fandom have been FEEDING me, with such amazing content! Every day I am amazed at the creativity and skill people are demonstrating with the fruitful motivation the film provided.

*If I specify that Reader fic characters be coded as Black or a Character of Color, it's because a lot of Reader fic tends to be coded white. If the reader fic is written in such a way as to truly be devoid of indicators to race/ethnicity, I will read it.

A few things to know:

I ship both Nashuri and Attoye (among other pairings, some of them are rare pairs). I DO NOT engage in fandom wars or discourse. I do not argue with strangers on the internet at my big age. If either of these pairs doesn’t make sense to you, or weirds you out or makes you uncomfortable or upsets you, it’s OK, but we don’t need to argue about it. If you are an author and your fic is on this list, but you do not wish for it to be included because you don’t want it on a list with the other pairing, just let me know (cordially please, without attitude) and I will remove your fic from the list. No harm, no foul.

That said, if there is anything on the list that you feel is beyond simply nonsensical, but problematic, genuinely offensive, discriminatory, et al, please let me know. I do my best not to read or recommend things that fall on that spectrum, but if you have a genuine concern I of course want to know if there's something I overlooked or didn't consider.

These recs will be posted with the link to the fic on ao3 and if the author has a Tumblr, their @handle. If the author has no Tumblr, but is on some other social platform, I will post that instead.

If the fic is posted on Tumblr, I will ❤️ it first, and then it will be queued to reblog on Fridays. I will usually comment on it, but my comments can mostly be found in the tags. If that is unacceptable to you, I’m sorry, that’s the way I like to run my blog. I like to do a rapid scroll, like, and then go through my likes some time later (days maybe weeks depending on how busy I am) and queue them up for reblogs. If you’d rather I’d reblog as soon as you post your fic or not at all, let me know (cordially please, without attitude) and I will do my best. I will only recommend what I have read. I can’t recommend something I haven’t read myself, for obvious reasons. If you want me to read something, please ask. However, if it doesn’t end up on this list, please understand. I am open to giving feedback, but I probably won’t recommend something I don’t like.

more ocean water than blood in him, his mother used to say. born the eldest in the ehekatl family, the summer court’s finest shipmakers, kazakir took to the sand and sea far more quickly than he took to walking. his father was a builder and his mother, much like him, was too restless to stay on land for too long. it became a pastime for them, taking the ships that his father built and testing them at sea where both thrived in stranger tides. when his siblings were born, he carried on that tradition with them.

at sea, among the waves and the water-wraiths, his mother taught him the importance of learning the way of water. it was his family’s duty to provide the ships that guarded and fought for the summer court, their reputation a fearsome one. his mother was a fighter, his father a builder, and somewhere in between, was kazakir.

as gifted at building with words as he was his hands, his connection with both people and the sea earned him a position as the naval commander of the summer court as favorable eyes turned to his family. within its inner circle, he felt at peace. there he could be both sea and shore, just as he always had been.

in time, once the lesser fae rose and the summer court rose with them, his talent for warfare made itself known. just as the sea could embrace, it could also drown. just as the sun could warm, it could also burn. and under his command, the summer court’s navy was a guardian to its people and a bane to its enemies.

but war makes warriors weary and when the fighting was over, the night court having so generously splitting their forces, kazakir observed a sea more bone than salt. by whatever means necessary, whatever it took, there would be no more. a torn hope rests inside him and shifts with the tide.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Spoilers galore:

It was never going to be easy. Chadwick Boseman’s passing was shocking and the loss will ripple through the Marvel universe for decades. What he brought to the character cannot be understated, and what he left behind is equally important.

I give Ryan Coogler all the credit in the world. What he gave us is a wonderful movie that struck the perfect balance between grief and moving on. So much of the movie reflected so much of our real life grief at Chadwick’s passing, but handled it in a way that gave us an opportunity to smile and let go.

We’re never told exactly how T’Challa died, beyond a mysterious illness that was too far gone for Shuri to cure. @thenicecheese thinks it might end up being an illness tied into characters who were ‘snapped’. Maybe so. But for me, it won’t matter- it was just enough information without tying themselves up in knots to explain it. The funeral was just the right length, too, giving us a moment to grieve before seguing into the Marvel title sequence.

Except it wasn’t the regular Marvel title sequence. They replaced all the images on the Marvel logo with images of Chadwick Boseman, and there was no music. Yeah, just stab me in the heart, Marvel.

I’m not going to get too too much into the details. It had its flaws. Some of the CGI wasn’t great; while the water sequences were beautifully done, the air shots were often poorly rendered, particularly the ones with Namor flying around. (That being said, when Shuri cuts off one of his wings? Great scene.) Was also waiting for someone to say, “Just because you’ve killed this scientist doesn’t mean there isn’t another scientist to take over the work.” It was a pretty weak premise for Namor to lose his shit over.

I was surprised at how ‘Big Bad’ they made Namor. Not a lot of grays in his world nor the writers’ depiction of him. There wasn’t really a point where I felt he was justified for killing all those people at the beginning, or invading Wakanda. I will say, Tenoch Huerta, who played Namor, was very good with what he was given. Probably needed just a little more sensuality, but had a great presence.

Speaking of presence- and this surprised me, considering how important she was in the movie- Letitia Wright felt like the weakest role in the movie. Her turn to vengeance was very good, but overall, she lacks a screen presence that draws me to her. Will also say Dominique Thorne (RiRi Williams/Ironheart), while not bad in the role, sort of faded into the background after her introduction. Lupita Nyong’o was so much more compelling, and she barely had much to do.

You know who had the most amazing presence? Oh my god, Angela Bassett and Danai Gurira. The scene where Ramonda strips Okoye of her rank was stunning and heartbreaking all at once. Long after this movie fades from my memory, this scene will remain.

And here’s where I talk briefly about DC movies. This isn’t meant to trash them or put them down in any way; what I’m about to say is honest criticism. There are 2 things Marvel does incredibly well that DC just doesn’t.

1. Music. Sarah Halley Finn does an amazing job at casting, but whoever chooses the music for the Marvel movies is vastly underrated. Have you seen the Quantumania trailer yet? Have you heard that freaky version of “Good-bye Yellow Brick Road”? Who can forget “Dear Mr. Fantasy” that started Endgame? Though it’s not in the movie, “No Woman, No Cry” (covered by Tems) was in the trailer, and my god, talk about perfection.

2. This one is currently out of DC’s hands, but is indicative of how DC has handled their universe. Consider this: Iron Man only came out 5 years before Man of Steel. But what has DC got to show for it? A botched Justice League with a Batman who didn’t even get his own movie. A tepid Batman vs. Superman whose only bright moment was the introduction of Wonder Woman. An Aquaman who hasn’t had anything to do since Justice League (5 years ago). A Flash movie that is under a toxic cloud. A Suicide Squad and a The Suicide Squad. I mean, wtf are they building over there? Which is why it will take them a long time before they have a scene in a movie that makes us gasp the way Okoye getting stripped of her rank did. Which is why it will take them a long, long time before the death of a secondary character will hit us the way Ramonda’s death did. You can’t rush that kind of emotion, but DC just doesn’t want to take the time to build a real foundation. They only appear to build the Hollywood fronts old Westerns used back in the day- a passable facade with nothing behind it.

As I said, Wakanda Forever has its flaws, but it will get a lot of goodwill because of the subject matter that carries this movie (how do we move on from grief?), and how it reflects real life events that led up to it. And that’s okay. Sometimes we all need a good cry. I hope Chadwick Boseman would be proud.

I’d give this 8//10. (For comparison, I’d give Dr. Strange/MoM 7/10 and Thor: Love and Thunder 6/10. For DC comparison, I thought The Batman was 7/10.)

There is one post-credit scene. It comes fairly quickly after the last scene.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022, dir. Ryan Coogler) - review by Rookie-Critic

Okay. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. As with all MCU reviews, this will be vague because I know at least some of y'all have not gotten a chance to see it yet. Does it live up to the near-insurmountable legacy the first one left behind? I think not. However, as mentioned, that was going to be almost impossible, and it shouldn't take away from how great Wakanda Forever really is. Firstly, and unsurprisingly, Wakanda Forever serves as a way to mourn the loss of Chadwick Boseman and King T'Challa, and it is in these moments that the film works best. It is unfortunate that this is mainly felt in the opening and closing scenes of the film. That's not to say it is only in those moments, because it's not, Boseman's presence is felt throughout the entire film, and I think that works both for and against it (even though the latter is not in any way the fault of the filmmakers).

Boseman is missed. Letitia Wright, great actor that she is, has the slightest amount of trouble carrying the film on her shoulders. Thankfully, she doesn't have to entirely. Angela Bassett, an absolute legend, gets to own her fair share of screen time reprising her role as Queen Ramonda, and, in a lot of ways, is just as important as Shuri is to the overall story of the film. Also really bringing it is newcomer Tenoch Huerta Mejía as Namor, the Sub-Mariner, who is a character that has been hotly anticipated for quite awhile by comic book fans. Mejía was, without a doubt, my favorite part of the film. Following up a villain like Erik Killmonger/Prince N'Jadaka is no easy feat, and they pulled it off without even breaking a sweat. Mejía commands your attention, and his cause and reasoning for wanting to do what he wants to do is every bit as empathetic as Killmonger's was the first time around. Dominique Thorne is also incredible as Riri Williams (who comic book readers probably know better as the new-age hero Ironheart). Where Multiverse of Madness failed in their portrayal of America Chavez, Wakanda Forever absolutely succeeds in their portrayal of Riri, and I can't wait to see more of her in her upcoming solo series on Disney+.

It isn't without its problems: a lot of the late stage decisions/revelations feel a little unearned, a big bulk of the middle of the film feels unneeded (and at a whopping 2 hours and 41 minutes, there definitely could have been some fat trimmed), and I could have used about a million more percent M'Baku. Winston Duke is an absolute scene-stealer and deserves so much more screen time than he is given. Not only as a comedic character, but surprisingly as a dramatic one as well. In a way, I'm glad the movie did not try to beholden itself too much to the original, it helps it stand a little better on its own two feet. In another way, though, it loses a little of that magic that made the original one such a triumph of modern film making, even if it was only a little. Regardless, Wakanda Forever shines very bright, and I like to think that part of that is Chadwick beaming at how well his MCU family is doing in his absence.

Score: 9/10

Currently still playing in some theaters, but is probably on it's way out. Look for it soon on Disney+.

I'd also like to point out that this film is led almost entirely by women of color. Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, and Dominique Thorne could all be considered main characters in their own right here, and that is something worth majorly celebrating.

Rocky Dawuni jets off to Costa Rica for Concert after 65th Grammys

Fresh off of his 3rd GRAMMY nomination, Ghana’s revolutionary music star and activist, Rocky Dawuni is headed to Costa Rica for a series of concerts and events. On March 4th, Rocky is scheduled to perform at one of the biggest festivals in Costa Rica, Envision Festival, which is bringing artists from all of the world for 8 days of music, dance, yoga and workshops on the Pacific Coast. He will be sharing the stage alongside artists like Bonobo, California Honeydrops, Rising Appalachia and many more.

“Envision's mission is to create an eye-opening experience that turns us onto a new form of living; a new way to be inspired. To provide tools that can be integrated into the life we are already living or to inspire a complete shift in our life path. The connection to nature can be felt in every aspect of Envision and the ripple effect of what people then take away from the festival is much more potent than just a good party.” The Ghanaian musician is also scheduled to lead a workshop focusing on music, activism and current global issues on Sunday, March 5th at Envision.

Rocky will then head to the Caribbean side of the country for a series of cultural events including headlining the historic “International Concert Against Racism” that is scheduled to take place at the Plaze de Deportes in Playa Negra Cahuita on March 8th at 5 pm. The concert is being spearheaded by the former Vice President of Costa Rica, Epsy Campbell. As a musician whose intention is to create spiritual and cultural bridges between Africa and the Afro Descendent Diaspora, this concert provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the important contributions of people of African descent of across the Americas.

Rocky Dawuni states; “In a time when issues of black people and people of color are increasingly being diminished. There is a need to amplify and empower our collective voice as a means to define our future. Elevating the music and the cultural connection will be key to harmonizing our intentions towards this prime objective.”

In regards to Rocky’s tour, Epsy Campbell, former Vice President of Costa Rica, stated “we will hold in Costa Rica, the first “International Concert Against Racism,” organized by the Global Coalition Against Systemic Racism on March 8th, 2023. Our goal is to raise awareness and create an international community committed to eradicating racism and protecting victims of racial discrimination. We are honored to welcome Rocky Dawuni and his band from Ghana, an artist committed to the rights of

Africa and its Diaspora. Also, will have the participation as special guest the Mexican actor of the movie Wakanda Forever, Tenoch Huerta, a recognized anti-racist activist.
