~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Warning:  This one’s so fluffy it may make your teeth rot.
“Yeah, so I’m having a lot of abdominal pain,” Leroy said loudly to the receptionist of the Storybrooke Walk In Clinic, which shared a wing of the hospital with the OB/GYN ward.  “Feels like my bowels are all twisted. Maybe if I could empty them fully I’d feel better, but I’m all stopped up.”
Emma rolled her eyes as she sat with Killian waiting eagerly for their big prenatal appointment.  “I don’t know about you, babe,” she said, squeezing her husband’s hand, “but I can safely say that is more than I ever wanted to know about Leroy’s bowels.”
Killian laughed, bringing their joined hands to his lips and giving her hand a quick kiss.  “Quite so, love.  Almost makes me long for the days where we were so busy chasing the latest villain, we didn’t have time for such mundane things.”
She chuckled, determinedly pushing aside the small kernel of insecurity his statement brought up–fear that Killian would grow bored with a mundane Happily Ever After and leave her for further adventure.  She knew she’d never completely rid herself of the insecure inner child who’d never mattered to anyone and didn’t think she ever would, but she wasn’t that child anymore.  She was an adult with many, many people who loved her and who she loved.  She wasn’t going to let her insecurities ruin her idyllic life.
Inside, she felt the small flutters of their baby moving and kicking away, and she placed a gentle hand on her slightly swollen belly.  She’d only just begun to feel their little magic bean, and every time she felt the sensation, it was like magic.
“Everything alright, love?” Killian asked, eying the way she held her belly with concern.
“Absolutely wonderful,” she said, beaming a smile at him.  “The baby’s kicking!”
Killian placed his hand next to hers and was still for a moment, before shaking his head.  “I do wish I could feel it.”
Emma reached up and cupped his cheek.  “All in good time, Killian,” she said.  “Just wait a few months, and this little guy or girl will be waking you up at night with their kicks.”
“You’ve no idea how much I look forward to that,” Killian said, with a bright smile.  “Now explain to me again what is so momentous about this particular appointment today?”
Emma had reached the twenty week point in her pregnancy last Monday, and so today was the day for the big anatomy scan ultrasound.  She’d opted for a 4D ultrasound, because she couldn’t wait to see her baby; really see it, beyond the grainy images standard ultrasounds provided.
Nor could she wait to see Killian’s reaction when he got to see his son or daughter for the first time.  She had no doubt he would declare it to be magical, and come to think of it, maybe he wasn’t far off.  Imagine being able to use sound waves to see your baby inside!
She’d had her first ultrasound at her first doctor’s appointment at seven weeks.  She’d been alone that time–not that Killian wouldn’t have dropped literally everything to be with her, but because….well because she didn’t want to get her hopes up.  They’d been trying for a baby for so long, and there had been a few times her period was late that they’d really believed they’d succeeded.
Only for the pregnancy tests to all come back negative.
The disappointment had been hard on both of them, and so this time around when she missed her period, when she started feeling nauseous and fatigued, even when she took a positive pregnancy test, she was afraid to believe.  She’d decided to get verification before she got Killian’s hopes up yet again.
Her heart swelled as she remembered that day, Whale doing the ultrasound himself and showing her her baby on the screen and the strong beep of his or her little heart. She’d never forget the look in Killian’s eyes when she showed him the indistinct still the ultrasound tech had printed out and then explained to him what he was looking at.  Happy wasn’t a strong enough word for it.  He looked like a man who’d been given the greatest gift of his life, and the kiss he had given her afterwards, tears streaming from his eyes, would go down in history as one of the best kisses in the history of the kiss.
“So today’s the big day, isn’t it?” Leroy said cheerfully as he took a seat next to Emma in the waiting area.  “Lot’s riding on this, you know.”
“....a lot’s riding on my prenatal appointment?” Emma asked with a raised brow.
“Well, yeah,” Leroy said.  “Dwarves and I have a pool, betting on whether you got a boy or girl in there, the size, birth date. The works.  I went girl all the way.  Just a feeling.  The winner of the pool gets all his meals at Granny’s paid by the rest for a month, so I’m counting on you two.”
Killian rolled his eyes.  “We shall endeavor to ensure your meals are properly paid for, dwarf.”
Leroy shrugged and for a moment was silent as he watched Storybrooke citizens slowly filter in and out of the waiting room.  “Lots of people coming into the clinic today,” he mentioned idly.  “You know why it is, right?”
“I’ve no doubt you’ll soon enlighten us,” Killian said, putting an arm around Emma and leaning back in his chair.
“It’s that big forest fire up north,” Leroy said, “makes the air quality here really bad.  You know it’s the werewolves that caused it, right?”
“The were….what?” Emma asked.
“The werewolves!” Leroy said.  “Somebody was up there hunting them, and as everyone knows, if you don’t catch a werewolf the right way, they catch on fire and then become REAL werewolves.  Gotta be what happened!”
Granny, who’d come in complaining of a sinus infection, slapped him upside the head before really laying into him as he continued to plead “I don’t mean good werewolves like you and Ruby!”
“Never a dull moment around here, is there love?” Killian asked with a grin.
She laughed along with him just before a nurse called them back.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Killian sat on his living room couch, looking down at the photo he held and feeling his eyes mist again.  This was her; this was his daughter.  The level of detail available on these 4D ultrasounds was incredible.  Love like he’d never felt rushed on him yet again.
Emma plopped beside him, wrapped an arm around his waist and set her head on his shoulder.  “She’s cute, isn’t she?”
“She’s gorgeous, love,” he answered softly, almost reverently.  “Looks just like her mother.”
Emma chuckled.  “She does kinda look like me, doesn’t she?  Except for when the ultrasound tech first focused on her face and she raised one eyebrow.  She was her father’s daughter all the way there.”
“She’ll be the best of both of us,” he said, running a finger across the image.
He’d had many singular and unexpected experiences since he first came to the Land Without Magic, but he knew that never in all of his days would he forget this day.  He remembered the tech slathering Emma’s protruding belly with a slimy, gelatinous substance and then running a strange looking wand all around.
He’d been curious about the procedure, wondering how it all worked, but then his daughter’s image had appeared on the small moving picture box the wand was connected to, and everything had fallen away.
This was his child, his and Emma’s, the physical embodiment of their True Love, and she was perfect.  He watched as she smiled, yawned, waved her arms around and kicked. She was an active one, their little magic bean, and she’d likely lead them a merry chase.
The tech had taken her time, examining their child and monitoring her progress.  “Everything looks good,” she said.  She’d gone on to give them the news that their little cygnet was a girl. She’d congratulated them, printed them out a few pictures from the scan and then taken her leave.
“You’ll spoil her rotten, Killian,” Emma said as he leaned down to kiss her, still overcome by the news they’d received, even all these hours later.
“Aye, that I will,” he agreed, “but the gods help any suitor who breaks her heart!”
“This kid is lucky to have you for a father,” Emma said, eyes fixed on their baby’s first picture.
“Not nearly as luck as she is to have you for a mother.”
“We are pretty great together, aren’t we?” Emma asked with a grin.  “We must be if we can make someone like her.”
“The road has been long,” Killian said, “and far from smooth, but we’ve made it; we’re a family.  This may be the greatest adventure of our lives, but I can’t wait for it.”
 Notes:
–So apparently pregnant Emma is all I want to write about lately.  I just really, really wish we’d gotten to see more of CS’s happily ever after!
–This story was inspired by real life events.  My allergist’s office is in the same building as an urgent care center.  Last week, while I was waiting the obligatory 30 minutes after my shot, an old man came in and went into way too much detail to the receptionist about his abdominal pain and bowels.  He then proceeded to take a seat next to this woman who looked to be in her early twenties.  He began talking….and pretty much never stopped, and the things he said….well, let’s just say, I wasn’t exaggerating Leroy for comic effect.  This old man told the (very much uninterested in the conversation) young woman that the recent forest fires in Canada were a result of people hunting werewolves.  He stated matter-of-factly that if people try to kill werewolves the wrong way, they catch on fire and then become REAL werewolves.  (What were they before being incorrectly hunted?  He didn’t say.)
–Naturally, this rather bizarre incident immediately left me with one burning question: How can I turn this into a CS au?  And here we are!
Some fun things while running through Frostmas Year Two! First off, I'm so glad it's not as bad off as CS was! It's holding up well--I've had little edits to make and that's it! No huge rewrites!! Mainly there's been some expanded dialogue and rephrasing of awkward sentences and fixing the voice so that it's ALWAYS Jacqueline narrating, so that's been fun. Anyway! I learnt two things while working on Y2 today!
the source wouldn't block magibeans from swearing on paper, which bot Jacquie and I just realized. Needless to say, she's gone full potty mouth now lol. I did think it;d be funny if every time you wrote FUCK the source used the magic in the air to change it to FROST but nah, i think that in Frostmas of all things, Jacqueline should be allowed to swear!
The dream life <3 Can’t imagine Miles (E-42) confusion at his sweet gf suddenly all out
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ⰶ Hii lovely<3, I CONSIDER THIS A REQUEST IDC. SO. basically made a oneshot(?)cs why not? My mind if filled with a bunch of what ifs so here are some hcs or not :)
Ⰶ Do enjoy!
Ⰶhonestly Js fluff! No warning that I know off
Ⰶ Y/N is still getting use to Miles as they recently started dating, keep this in mind so it can make sense!!
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Y/N gets a text from her mami, that’s theres gonna be a family cookout and to, QUOTE “trae al moreno lindo tuyo”
Y/N is like ‘why not’, so she does exactly that, struggling to tell Miles, what was planned for the day
Miles being the loving boyfriend he is, is rubbing her back encouraging to speak up from her reserved nature
With that Y/N says “I want you to come with me to my family cook out!”
Miles is like how ironic cause you already went to his now it’s his turn to go to yours
Otw there Y/N is kinda nervous cause I mean this is gonna be the first time Miles meets her family officially WHO WOULDNT BE NERVOUS
They get to the house/park it was being hosted at and going into the open space the couple is greeted with a bunch of “Y/N’s HERE!” Coming from a few younger cousins
The kids and the same age and older cousins greet their favorite cousin so yk how that goes, some how Miles manages to end up at edge of the circle around his girlfriend
Miles is like “:0” cause he didn’t know she could be such a extrovert(????????)
Miles is greeted by Y/N mom and aunt as they laugh at his surprise and here come the boss lady saying “didn’t know y/n was like that did you?” Mother dearest says laughing and nudging him to have a seat
“No I did not” he chuckles
After that commotion Y/N goes back to miles ONLY TO BE CALLED BY HER UNCLE pulling her away from miles for the 2nd time this night!
“Mi sobrina favorita!! We need you on los papás y hamburguesas!” Her uncles calls out, and you can literally hear the other children groan at the “favorite”
“Ya vengo” y/n says now pulling her hair behind her ear and into a loose bun(anyone else tries less when tying their hair when it’s curly??)
Miles watches I’m awe forgetting what he was about to tell her as she ties a apron from one of the lost chairs and makes her way to her uncle.
Miles just smirks taking mental notes of Y/N habits when she’s let loose, also making sure he’s the first in line for his Girls cooking🥰how cute
The eating and mingling portion is done now it’s later in the afternoon and on of Y/N older cousin calls out (I ran out of options) “who wanna shadow box”
“THAT MEANS YOU Y/N” your cousin yells from the other side of the yard
“I HEARD YOU THE FIRST TIME” Y/N calls out making her way to the group of cousins bringing miles along
Miles takes out his phone to record and Mayb post later and when Y/N litterally annihilates getting a 3 for 3
“OHHHHHH” miles hears eb say (LMFAO having tm fun)
And with that the night was spent, and yk they otw home
I kid you not Miles would turn to you and challenge you
“Match me rn”
“Huh??” Y/N is dumbfounded she so confused
“Juega me”
“Me? Oh no I can’t I could possibly-“
“Oh tu si puedes”
And ya would get home to find miles crumbling in defeat LMFAO
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
This was fun, maybe not exactly BUT YK WHAT? I had fun writing this so idc!
Don’t be afraid to submit something, I’ll literally make anything out of limit sources<3
A Christmas Surprise- NEW CHAPTER!!
Tumblr media
Summary: Elsa Jones enlists her friend Emma Swan to come up with a scheme to surprise her niece Alice Jones when her Papa, Killian, returns from deployment just in time for Christmas.
If you're thinking this fic sounds familiar, you're right! I originally wrote this fic two years ago, but last year an idea came to me of how I could continue the story. It was too close to Christmas last year to get it done, so I wrote this addition last spring and it's been waiting for December to get here so I could post it!! I still think this fic is the cutest thing I've ever written and I hope you enjoy this continuation. The addition turned out to be much too long, so I divided it up into three chs. The next ch will post on Tuesday with the final ch posting next Friday.
On ao3 from the beginning/ current ch
Words: 5225 of 18,550
Rating: G, total Christmas fluff ahead!!!
All the love and thanks to @jrob64 and @snowbellewells for being the best betas out there. I so hope you enjoy and let me know what you think!
Tagging the usuals. Please let me know if you'd like to be added or removed.
Under the cut, unless Tumblr ate it.
Killian Jones sat in the darkness of the giant present in which he was hiding, waiting for his daughter’s Christmas program to begin. He couldn’t wait to see his starfish when he surprised her after she sang her solo this evening. He was proud to serve his country, but the long deployments made things especially difficult. Having Liam and Elsa so close by and willing to care for Alice when he was gone was a blessing he didn’t take for granted in the least, but he was so thankful that he was home for good now and was eligible to retire in just a few more months.
Which made him think about what would come next. What the future might hold and how the lovely Emma Swan might fit into it. He’d been thoroughly gobsmacked when he laid eyes on the golden haired beauty who was Alice’s teacher when he arrived at the school earlier. And then the revelation that she was single sent his heart rate ratcheting up like he hadn’t experienced since he’d met his late wife. It had been six years since he’d lost his beloved Milah, and the thought of re-entering the dating scene hadn’t crossed his mind once in all that time. He was still relatively young and handsome, but with his very young daughter and Navy career, he didn’t have the time or inclination to put himself back out there.
But Emma Swan might just change his mind on that front.
He knew his countenance sported a goofy, thoroughly besotted smile when he heard movement on the outside of the box in which he sat. Bright light from the auditorium flooded the dark space as the small door in the side of it opened, helping him immensely in the schooling of his features before being confronted with the object of his thoughts as she handed him his dinner.
“Do you have enough light to see to eat in here?” Emma asked, looking around.
Killian grimaced. He hadn’t really thought of that. “Perhaps not.”
“I can stay for a bit while you eat, turn the flashlight on on my phone. So you can see to eat,” she stammered. The blush on her cheeks was adorable, and Killian’s heart rate picked up yet again.
“That would be great. Thank you, Emma.”
She smiled as she moved into the space with him. It was a bit cramped with them both sitting on the floor, but he didn’t mind it at all. He tucked into his Christmas meal of roast turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans and cranberry salad as Emma told him about some of the antics Henry, Alice, and her cousins had gotten up to this semester.
She told him about Liam Jr and Colin hiding Alice’s pencil box on the first day of school. Meant as an initiation of sorts, it had made Elsa’s morning that much more hectic and stressful trying to find it and make it to school on time. Emma related how she’d had trouble containing her giggles when the twins confessed what they’d done, handed over the pencil box, and got exactly what was coming to them from their mother. Later on the same day, in retaliation, Alice and Henry had hidden away the twins’ lunch boxes. Killian had to stifle his laughter at the story.
Then Emma told him about the time just a few weeks ago when Alice was delayed coming back from the restroom. When Emma went to look for her, she found the child peeking into the auditorium where her cousins were engaged in a basketball game with another school in the area. Colin had just made a shot, and Alice was cheering loudly for her cousin from the hallway when Emma found her. Killian’s heart swelled.
By this time, he’d finished his meal and it was time for Emma to depart.
“Alice’s solo is I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” Emma explained. “Do you sing at all? Why don’t you join her for the last line of the song? She’ll just be singing the stanza we all know and love twice, with a bridge in between, so you’ll know exactly when to come in.” Emma’s face was lit up in the light from her phone, and Killian grinned, even as his cheeks heated.
He scratched behind his ear in embarrassment as he spoke. “I’ve been told,” he shrugged, “I have a reasonably nice sounding voice. I think that’s a great idea. So the second time she sings the verse, I’ll join her for the last line and come out of the box?”
Emma nodded. “Yes.” A little giggle burst from her lips as she rose, preparing to leave the cramped quarters, and Killian was utterly charmed. “I can’t wait to see the look on Alice’s face. I’ve been looking forward to this all week.”
“I have too,” Killian agreed. “When Elsa told me what you had planned, I was excited too. And a bit overwhelmed,” he admitted. “That anyone besides Elsa would care so much about Alice that they would arrange something like this…” He trailed away for a moment. “Thank you, Emma.”
Emma had to look away from his sincere expression, a blush heating her cheeks. “You’re quite welcome, Killian. She’s an absolute dear and one of my favorite students. I’ll see you at the end of the program.” And with that, she slipped out of the box, leaving Killian to his thoughts.
~*~*~
Sitting there in the dark listening to the program going on onstage was torture. He could hear everything, and he had no doubt that if he joined in the laughter with the audience and then the sing-along towards the end of the program, the children on the stage would be able to hear him, thus spoiling the surprise. But the time finally came for Alice to sing her solo. A smile with just a touch of sadness and nostalgia broke over his face. Milah hadn’t been able to carry a tune in a bucket, but she loved to listen to him sing, especially to their baby girl at bedtime. He could hear the piano music, and then his Starfish began to sing with her strong and sweet voice.
I’ll be home for Christmas.
You can count on me.
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents by the tree.
Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light gleams.
I’ll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams.
Tears were coursing down his face as he listened, and he didn’t know if he was going to be able to wait for the last line of the song. He heard Alice begin the next stanza, but suddenly, she stopped singing and a hiccupping sob escaped her. Killian quickly dried his own tears and picked up where his Starfish had left off as he opened the box and stepped out in front of it.
Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light gleams
Killian’s heart melted with love and pride when his eyes landed on Alice. She was looking at Emma who was knelt down next to her and was pointing towards him, tears shining in her eyes.
Alice turned toward him and the confusion on her face melted into pure unadulterated joy when she spotted him.
“Papa!” she shouted.
She ran across the stage and leapt into his waiting arms. His little girl had grown a lot in the last nine months, and he was nearly toppled by her enthusiastic greeting. Spinning around with his daughter in his arms, he planted loud, smacking kisses all over her face. He knew she missed him as much as he did her because she didn’t try to wiggle out of his embrace when he did that.
After he set her down, he looked around the quickly emptying auditorium, finding the rest of his family waiting to welcome him home. He hugged his twin nephews, Liam Jr. and Colin, tightly, exclaiming how they looked more like their father than ever. Then Alice was back in front of him, holding the hand of an older boy behind her.
“Papa, this is Henry Swan,” she introduced. “He’s my best friend.” She turned to her friend with a wide smile on her lips. Killian held out his hand for the young man to shake.
“It’s so nice to meet you, Henry,” Killian said, sincerely. “I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you befriending my Alice when I deployed last spring.” He looked down at his daughter as she hugged him tightly around the waist, draping his arm across her shoulders. “She can be shy, so it means a lot for someone to reach out to her when she only knew her cousins here at the school.”
The boy blushed as he shook Killian’s hand. “It was my pleasure, sir,” Henry said, a bit shyly himself.
Killian felt his own cheeks heat as he moved toward Emma, scratching behind his ear in nervousness.
“Thank you so much for this, Emma,” he said sincerely. “I truly can’t tell you what it means to me.”
Emma smiled, the action lighting up her green eyes, and Killian caught his breath. “I was happy to do it, Killian.”
He scratched behind his ear again, not meeting her eyes, searching for the words to ask this beautiful woman out on a date. “Could I… uh, would you mind if…” He remembered that Liam was fond of saying a man unwilling to fight for what he wants, deserves what he gets, and Killian had a feeling this lovely lady in front of him was definitely worth fighting for. He finally looked up at her and just spit it out. “Would you like to get a cup of coffee sometime? It’s the start of Christmas break, is it not?” he asked as she looked back at him after looking down at Henry, who stood beside her grinning widely.
“It is,” she affirmed. “And I’d love to have coffee with you, Killian.”
Killian couldn’t keep the grin off of his face if he tried. Being back home with his daughter and family around him, and now going on a date with one of the most beautiful women he’d ever laid eyes on, he had a feeling his life was on the precipice of something great. And he couldn’t wait to see what the future held.
~*~*~
It was Christmas Eve, and Killian didn’t think he could possibly be any happier. Having this time with his family after being away for nine months was a respite he desperately needed. And the addition of the time spent with Emma since they’d met a little over a week ago was only the icing on the cake.
The day after the Christmas program, he and Emma met for coffee, which stretched to lunch, and then all the way to the end of the day. Killian could feel his cheeks heat as he remembered the wide happy smiles on Elsa and Liam’s faces as they passed in front of the coffee shop where he and Emma had met, herding the four children toward Granny’s a couple of doors down for lunch. Killian had been completely oblivious to the time, and when Elsa caught his eye as they passed, he’d pulled out his phone, stunned to find that over two hours had passed in Emma’s delightful company. They quickly settled their tab and joined the rest of them at Granny’s where he got an up front and personal look at just how well Emma and Henry fit into his family. It was enough to really get him thinking about seriously pursuing Emma.
After lunch, he’d been loath to part from her, so had spontaneously invited her and Henry to accompany them as they sought out the perfect Christmas tree. Elsa and Liam hadn’t yet decorated when they received word that he’d be arriving home and decided to put it off until after he got there. It took the rest of the afternoon and evening to find, put up, and decorate the tree.
Since that first all day “date”, Emma and Henry had joined the Jones family for all of the requisite holiday traditions- decorating the rest of the Jones’ domicile, holiday baking, and ice-skating on the frozen pond in the park.
The kids had arranged an ice skating outing for all of them the previous Tuesday. Killian Jones might have served his country in the United States Navy for almost twenty years, but there was a big difference between being on a ship in the middle of the ocean and trying to navigate frozen water on nothing more than a single blade in the middle of his feet. Why they didn’t have double-bladed skates for adults to rent, he’d never know.
But he really couldn’t complain much since Emma was usually the one helping him to his feet when he fell. Alice and Henry had been concerned at first, but the more he fell, the funnier they thought it was. By the time he was ready to hang up the skates and just watch the rest of them, Alice and Henry’s red faces were as much from their laughter at him as from the cold. But again, he couldn’t complain, because seeing the happiness and laughter on his daughter’s face was well worth the humiliation of multiple wipeouts on the ice in front of the woman he really liked and wanted to impress. Thankfully, Emma soon joined him on the bench, where they sipped hot chocolate and laughed as they watched the children cavort on the rink.
Now, arriving back home after the Christmas Eve service at church, Killian couldn’t help the love and happiness blooming in his chest as he watched his family and the woman he was quickly falling for and her son gather around the tree for their gift exchange.
As he stood in the doorway to the kitchen watching them, Emma stood up and approached him. Her smile was bright and happy, and Killian returned it as she got closer.
“I’m just going to refill my glass,” she said, holding it up to show him. He moved quickly to the side to let her pass. A minute or so later, she stopped next to him on the way back out to the living room. “Are you coming?”
“Yes,” he replied. “I was just watching everyone for a minute.” He paused for a moment, and she was silent as he gathered his thoughts. “I’m so happy to be home,” he said in a whisper. He turned toward Emma, not sure if he spoke loud enough for her to hear him. Her eyes and smile were soft, and he knew she had.
“I know you are,” she said. “And I know how happy Alice and the rest of your family are to have you home as well. They missed you.”
“I missed them,” he said, looking back out at the room where everyone else was gathered. “It’s very hard being away from them for so many months at a time.”
“I couldn’t imagine,” she commiserated.
Liam looked up at them then and a spark of mischief appeared in his eye. Killian immediately was on the alert. That look always meant Liam was up to something.
“Oh, would you look at that,” he called jovially, pointing at them, then up to the top of the doorway where they stood.
Killian looked up and immediately felt his cheeks flame. He glanced at Emma, her countenance still directed to the greenery hanging above them, her jaw hanging open slightly. When she looked at him, bashful but pleased surprise was all over her face. He couldn’t believe he’d forgotten Liam and Elsa’s habit of hanging mistletoe in the doorway to the kitchen.
It was a tradition that had begun when they were dating. Liam had Elsa over for dinner in his apartment, and when he started bringing the dishes he’d prepared for their meal from the kitchen to the table, Elsa jumped up to help him. Each time they passed each other in the doorway, they’d kiss, so when Christmas rolled around, they decided it was the perfect place to hang the mistletoe. And it had hung there every year since.
Elsa couldn’t disguise her glee when she looked over at them. “Go on, Killian,” she urged. “You can’t break tradition.” Everyone in the room was now staring at them, with the kids exchanging furtive glances before joining together in only a moderately loud chant kiss kiss kiss. Killian glanced at Alice and Henry, taking in their smiling faces before turning back to Emma.
He leaned in close, never taking his eyes off hers. They sparkled with undisguised anticipation, but he had to make sure she was really agreeable before doing anything else, no matter what the members of the peanut gallery wanted.
“Are you alright with this, Emma?”
Her smile widened even more. “Yes, Killian,” she whispered.
“We’ll save a real kiss for when we don’t have an audience watching,” he whispered huskily, before brushing his lips against the corner of her mouth. He pulled back and was thrilled to see a deep blush on her cheeks and wide smile on her lips. She looked down, embarrassed, before making her way back to the living room where everyone had broken into whoops and cheers of celebration. Killian couldn’t help the surge of satisfaction he felt that she appeared to welcome his advances. He followed her into the living room and sat on the sofa, wrapping his arm around Alice as Liam Jr. got ready to play Santa and hand out the gifts.
Once they were handed out, it didn’t appear to have made any sort of dent in the pile under the tree. The twins and Alice had each been allowed to open two gifts- one a new set of pajamas they got every year, and then a second of their choosing from under the tree. Gifts between the adults would be exchanged in the morning, but Liam had gotten a joint gift for Elsa and Emma who also had gifts for each other, and Alice had a gift for Emma and Henry, Henry had a gift for Alice, and Emma had a gift for Killian.
They watched Henry and Alice open their presents to each other first. Henry was thrilled when he opened a new journal for him to write in, which appeared to have been hand made by his friend and was decorated with writing quotes and stickers. Henry was blushing furiously as Alice opened her gift, a hardbound copy of a story he’d written just for her. Alice and Killian both were completely stunned at the gift. Killian couldn’t imagine the kind of time and effort it would have required to make a gift like this. Alice threw her arms around Henry’s neck and gave him a loud smacking kiss on the cheek.
“Thank you, Henry,” she gushed. “I’ll treasure it always.”
Then it was Emma’s turn, and she opened a travel mug with World’s Best Teacher on the side from Alice, and she was the one to open the gift for herself and Elsa from Liam- a gift certificate for the two of them for a spa day that included facials, massages, getting their nails done, as well as a gourmet lunch. Elsa squealed, and planted a very enthusiastic kiss on her husband’s lips in thanks. Emma laughed at the display.
“I won’t be doing that,” she quipped at Liam, a wide grin on her face. “But, thank you.”
Liam laughed. “I wouldn’t expect you to,” he shot right back at her, his arm around Elsa’s shoulders. “But, you’re welcome.”
Emma then opened her gift from Elsa to find warm fleece pajamas. Elsa knew how hard Emma found it to stay warm in the Maine winters, so the yellow and forest green plaid pjs were very welcome and appreciated. Emma bought Elsa a gift card to her favorite coffee shop that would likely last her at least a month.
Finally, Emma brought the gift she’d bought for Killian toward him. Killian was surprised, and he was sure she could see it on his face.
“You shouldn’t have, Emma,” he protested. “I don’t have anything for you.”
Emma shrugged, but she had a smile on her face. “Don’t worry about that. It really isn’t much. I know we haven’t known each other long, but I feel like I do know you after hearing Elsa and Alice talk about you the whole time you’ve been gone. So when I saw this while I was grocery shopping last week, I thought you probably missed it while you were gone.” She handed him a relatively tall and round gift, wrapped with the same paper that had wrapped the box he’d hidden in for the program. He opened it carefully and his jaw dropped in surprise before his eyes met hers.
“How did you know?” he asked, completely flabbergasted. In his hands was a very large tin of one of his very favorite treats, Pirouline hazelnut creme filled wafers.
“Elsa told me,” she replied. “She found some at the grocery store and bought them for Alice not long after you deployed so she could have one of her Papa’s favorite treats every day, since you couldn’t while you were gone.”
Killian felt the tears gathering in his eyes as he thought of his little girl enjoying the cookies on his behalf so she hopefully wouldn’t miss him quite so much. Emma grinned as he hugged Alice tightly to him and placed a kiss on the top of her head, so grateful to be back home with the ones he loved again.
“Thank you, Emma,” he choked out. “This means a lot.”
“You’re welcome.” She turned back toward Henry, catching him in the middle of a huge yawn. “Come on, kid,” she cajoled. “It’s time to head home and to bed, or Santa won’t come.”
“Uh huh,” Henry replied, a tired yet sarcastic smirk on his face as he rose to his feet. Emma ruffled his hair and smirked back at him in return.
“Or more likely, if you don’t go to bed soon, you won’t wake up early enough in the morning for us to make it to Grandma and Grandpa’s house for Grandpa’s Christmas pancakes,” she added. That got Henry moving quickly toward the door. Emma turned and faced the room. “Merry Christmas, everyone. We’ll see you…” Emma trailed away with a quiet chuckle. “Sometime next week.” Elsa rose to see Emma and Henry out, and Killian squeezed Alice and whispered in her ear.
“I’m just going to say goodnight to Emma, too,” he said. “Is that alright?”
Alice beamed at him. “Yes, Papa. I love Miss Swan. And I know you’ll love her, too.”
Killian was taken aback. Could she possibly mean…? Surely not, she was much too young for that. Or at least, he hoped she was…
Alice wasn’t finished. “You should go out on a real date. Without all of us.”
Killian frowned. “How do you know about dating?” he asked. “Aren’t you a little young for that?”
Alice rolled her eyes at him. She looked just like her mother when she did, and Killian felt a pang go through his heart. “I watch TV, Papa,” she informed him like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Killian rolled his eyes in response.
“So you’d be ok with me dating Miss Swan?” he asked, just to make sure.
Alice smiled and bopped him on the nose. “Yes, Papa.” Killian nodded and kissed Alice on the tip of her nose.
“I love you, Starfish.”
“I love you, too, Papa.”
Killian squeezed her one more time and rose from the sofa, arriving at the front door just as Emma and Henry were walking through it.
“Emma,” he called softly. She turned toward him and the smile that covered her face took his breath away. Elsa gave him a pleased and bashful smile as she moved back toward the living room and the rest of the family. “I just wanted to tell you goodnight, and thank you again for my Christmas present.”
Emma blushed at his words and cut her eyes away from him for a moment before meeting his gaze again. “I’m glad you like it.”
“Uh, I was wondering…” He trailed away and scratched at the spot behind his ear. “Do you have plans for New Years?”
Emma’s smile widened even more. “I don’t,” she replied.
“Would, ah, would you like to go out with me?” he stammered. He didn’t know what was wrong with him. He’d never been this nervous asking a woman out before, not even in the early days of dating Milah. And he’d already spent time with her and was quite sure she was interested in him as well. Maybe it was the fact that his entire family was only a few feet away and could easily hear them if they were so inclined. He hoped they weren’t, but given how they acted earlier when they were caught under the mistletoe, he wasn’t terribly optimistic.
“I’d love to,” she said, her smile even wider, if that was possible, and her eyes sparkling. “I’ll need to find a sitter for Henry…”
“Oh, don’t worry about Henry,” Elsa called from the living room. “He can spend the night here with us. You two go out and have fun.”
Emma’s eyes widened and then cut away from his as he bowed his head and chuckled at Elsa’s offer.
“Thank you, Elsa,” Killian called, only slight exasperation at her obvious eavesdropping coloring his tone.
“You’re welcome,” she called back. He could hear the satisfaction in her voice and could imagine her smug face, even if he couldn’t see it.
“I’ll pick you up at 7?” he asked.
“That’ll be great, Killian,” she said, her smile softening as she looked back out the door toward where Henry was waiting in her car. “I’ll see you then.” She looked back at him, raised up on her toes, and brushed her lips against the corner of his lips, just as he’d done earlier. “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
~*~*~
Some hours later, Killian and Liam sat in front of the dying fire, sipping from tumblers of rum. The rest of the family was sound asleep in their beds, but the brothers hadn’t had much time to be alone, so Liam had stayed up with Killian to help him put together the doll house he’d bought for Alice. And now that it was finished, they were enjoying a quiet drink together.
“How long before you report back for duty?” Liam asked.
“I report back February first,” Killian replied.
“And retirement date?”
“Officially it’s May 31,” he informed him, “but with my terminal leave saved up, the ceremony is April 11th.”
Liam nodded. “Have you given any thought to what you’ll do after you retire?”
Killian took a deep breath. “As far as working, no.” He paused for a moment. “But I have thought about dating Emma.” His voice wasn’t much more than a whisper, but he hoped his brother heard his words and he wouldn’t have to repeat them.
“Good.” Killian looked at his brother to see a satisfied smile on his face. “I’m glad to hear it. With your retirement imminent, you really don’t have a valid reason anymore to not date.” Liam’s eyebrow rose and Killian couldn’t help but bristle a bit at his brother’s words. “Don’t get your back up, Killian,” Liam continued, moving his hands in a placating gesture. “I know you loved Milah very much, and being a father to a young daughter is more than enough reason to be cautious in that area,” he acknowledged, and Killian could feel his ire receding at his brother’s words. “But I know Emma. And I know you. And I think you could be very happy together.”
Killian smiled at that last statement. “I think you’re right,” he agreed.
“And that brings us to housing arrangements.” The smile on Liam’s face made Killian smile too.
“I can’t impose on your hospitality forever, brother,” Killian said.
“There’s a house in the next neighborhood over,” Liam informed him. “It’s lovely. Two story, storage in the back, a view of the sea. I don’t know square footage or how many bedrooms it has, but it looks like plenty of room for a family.” Liam’s face was entirely too innocent, and Killian chuckled and rolled his eyes.
“You don’t need to do that, you know,” he said. “You couldn’t be more obvious. You want me to move here.”
Liam smiled. “You have to admit, the idea has merit. Your family is here, Emma is here, Alice could grow up with her cousins and Henry…”
“But what kind of job opportunities are there here?” Killian asked. “I’ve got some savings, but I can’t live off my retirement. I have a much better chance of finding good work in Boston.”
Liam scratched behind his ear with the same nervous tell Killian had. “This is very hush hush and isn’t public knowledge yet, but the firm is gearing up to open a whole new division for commercial property. With the surge of vacationers we’ve seen the last couple of years, the demand for services has really grown, and we have businesses coming out of the woodwork that need buildings to move into. Storybrooke doesn’t have the infrastructure to support them at the moment. I was the top agent in residential sales for the last two quarters and I’m on track to do it again this quarter as well. I’m sure I could put in a word for you and they’d agree to hold a position for you until April. They’ll be announcing the expansion and accepting résumés after the new year.”
Killian’s eyebrows rose nearly to his hairline. “Really? Wow…” This information all but sealed the deal for him. Of course he’d have to see numbers- salary, benefits, the price tag on the house Liam mentioned, but he couldn’t deny how well it all seemed to fit together and intersect perfectly with his own needs and desires.
“Since this is still on the down low, and the office is closed this week, I can give Nemo a call Wednesday or Thursday and tell him you’re interested.” Liam paused for a moment, his gaze on Killian intense. “If you’re interested, that is.”
Killian took a sip of his drink before replying. “Yes, I’m definitely interested.”
Liam’s relieved smile rivaled the lights on the tree as he stood. Killian stood as well, and the two men embraced warmly.
“This would be a dream come true, brother,” Liam said, patting him on the back before releasing him.
“It would,” Killian agreed. “I’ve missed you all.”
“We’ve missed you, too,” Liam said. “It’ll be so good to have you and Alice here in town and working in the same building.”
“It’s not a done deal yet, Liam,” Killian said laughing. “There’s still a lot up in the air about the entire situation.”
Liam scoffed and waved his hand in a dismissive gesture. “Pfft. It’ll work out. I can feel it in my bones.”
Killian smiled warmly and turned toward the stairs. “We’ll see. I hope so. Goodnight, brother. Merry Christmas.”
“Goodnight, Killian. Merry Christmas. Love you.”
“Love you, too.” Killian smiled and climbed the stairs to his room leaving a very happy Liam behind him.
"Open to Interpretation" by kazoosandfannypacks
Chapter 2/16: An Attempt to Flirt? Pairing: CaptainSwan Rating: General Word Count: (1K/24K) Summary: Emma Swan is appalled at works by modern artist Killian Jones- until a handsome stranger convinces her otherwise- and after introducing himself as the artist in question, he invites her out on a date. As their relationship develops, they find that they might not be as different from each other as originally thought. Chapter Summary: After revealing his identity, Killian decides to do something he hasn't done in years- ask someone out on a date. Tags: au, fluff, captain swan, modern au Author's notes: This was supposed to be a oneshot. I was perfectly okay with writing just a cute meet-ugly between them and leaving the rest of the story, well, open to interpretation. However, I was a little blown away by the few of you who asked for me to continue this story, so I secretly began a longer draft a couple days after posting. It's been really fun to keep this one under wraps, and I hope it lives up to the first one!  After how bold her words against his paintings were, it was almost ironic how quiet and shamefaced this Emma got as soon as she knew who he was.
 "Oh gosh," Emma said, "you're the…"
 "The 'talented artist with a clear message in his works,'" Killian alluded to her statement from half a minute ago.
 "I don't believe it."
 "Well, you should," Killian said, flipping around the lanyard he was wearing so she could see his vip id. He then handed her a brochure about the display out of his jacket pocket, pointing out to her his picture in it.
She leafed through it for a moment.
 "Alright, I'm convinced," she handed the pamphlet back to him, "but you didn't think that was relevant to our discussion?"
 He paused for a moment as he put away the brochure, as if pretending to think, then smiled and nodded, "Nope, not at all."
 She rolled her eyes and shook her head in response.
 Rather than let their conversation reach an awkward lull, he decided to turn on the charm. He'd been out of the dating game for a while, but this woman seemed reason enough to get back in. The moment he'd laid eyes on her, he knew he had to find a way to talk to her, and as they conversed he could feel the chemistry between them, and he was drawn as well to her fire and way with words.
 "It's not every day I hear such honest feedback," he explained, "and never from someone who's knowledge of the subject matter is rivaled only by how radiant she looks as she says it."
 "So this is an attempt to flirt with me?" she asked.
 "It's only an attempt if it doesn't work," he leaned in a touch closer, "I beg your pardon if I'm overstepping my bounds, but are you free this Friday?"
 "That depends."
 "The museum is hosting a charity benefit dinner that evening," he explained, "I've an obligation to attend, of course, but seeing as I'm a little new to the area, I've yet to find a date for the evening. Would you care to accompany me?"
 "Is this how you get all your dates?" Emma asked, "hang around your own exhibit in the hopes that a beautiful woman will waltz in and listen to you talk about yourself?"
 He wasn't about to admit that he hadn't asked someone out in years, that he'd been so devoted to his art career he hadn't thought of a social life since- since some time well before he painted Grief.
 "It's not every day a beautiful woman waltzes into my exhibit in the first place," he said, "least of all a woman as beautiful as you. My deepest apologies, though, if I've misread you."
 He'd certainly thought she'd seemed interested in him, or at least intrigued by him, but he wasn't about to pressure her if she wasn't.
 "What time's dinner?" Emma asked.
 "Friday at six thirty," he said, taking hope in her curiosity, "but we ought to aim to arrive a little early."
 "Sounds like a date," Emma almost laughed a little, and Killian smiled in response, surprised and excited that she'd accepted his offer.
 He noted again how well her pale green eyes complimented her golden hair and faded blue shirt- he half contemplated composing a similar color palette for his next piece.
 "Can I have your number?" he asked, pulling his phone out of his pocket and opening the contacts app.
 "Of course," Emma pulled out her phone and handed it to him as he handed her his.
 He typed his name and number into her phone, then they exchanged phones again.
 "Lemme send you a text to make sure I got my number right." Emma said.
 Half a second later, his phone dinged, heralding a message that just said "hey -emma."
 "hey -killian" he texted back, and her phone buzzed in response.
 "Perfect," Emma said.
 "Almost perfect," Killian said, "though I suppose I can't ask to take a picture of you for the contact photo."
 "Why not?" Emma asked.
 "Museum staff won't let me," he said, "they don't always encourage people to take pictures of the masterpieces."
 "That was the corniest line I've ever heard."
 "Then why are you blushing?"
 She didn't answer, but instead tucked a strand of hair in behind her ear and looked away.
 "Let's break the rules just this once," Killian said, "Selfie?"
 Emma smiled, "Sure."
 He held out his phone and stepped next to her.
 "Permission to touch the masterpiece too?" he asked.
 He watched her in the camera on his phone, taking a picture of her flustered smile before she looked back up.
 "Permission granted, rulebreaker." she teased.
 "I aim to be the first artist kicked out of his own exhibit," Killian joked, then put his arm around her and leaned a touch closer for the picture. He felt her arm reach around his side as well, her hand on his back, her touch like magic.
 A moment after he took the picture, they let go of each other, and before he updated her contact photo he sent it to her.
 She pulled out her phone as it vibrated, then looked at the time.
 "I gotta get going," Emma said, "didn't realize how late it is, and I've got a half hour drive back to the apartment, after I work my way out of this labyrinth of a museum and remember where I parked my car."
 "Would you like me to escort you?" Killian asked.
 "I think I can manage," Emma smiled.
 "Alright then," Killian held his hand out to her, "pleasure to meet you, Miss Swan."
 "Nice meeting you too," Emma shook his hand, "see you Friday?"
 "I'll pick you up at five thirty." he said.
 "Sounds great."
 She let go of his hand, then smiled at him one more time before she left.
 "Wow," Killian thought, his eyes fixed on her as she walked away, "Friday can't come soon enough."
cs: Tatsuya Himuro ah, I wanted to write for this character a long long time ago. He’s so pretty heart eyes here. Also, I’m a sucker for characters that have beauty marks like you are royalty crown here honey pardon my rambling session again.
He's such a pretty boy and sometimes you have to pinch your skin to check that he truly is your boyfriend! You know, it kind of resembles a reality check but for all the good reasons. He's so popular among women, you are constantly hearing them gossipping about how they would give him the night of his life or make sure he would put a ring on it.
Honestly, at first witnessing these conversations from afar was not easy to handle, you wanted to let them know they could keep on doing that thing called dreaming, such a beautiful tool us people have uh. Not you giving them a taste of their own medicine but you talked to your boyfriend about it and he said that you should not worry.
That's exactly what you started doing from now on, it didn't bother you anymore. You knew that you're the one he is with and vice versa.
Friday came by and this was a pretty good way to commence the weekend. As soon as he came back from work, you jumped on him making it evident he had no chance to escape which he understood.
"Hey hone-"
He barely has the time to drop his work bag that you're already all over him. He knows that he is really lucky to have you by his side.
You cut him off because you kissed him
He kissed you back, he knew that he had to make up for all the time he spent away from you and what better way than this?
"What is all this for? Why are you in a hurry?"
Ah, he definitely knows something happened, you will tell him later.
"Just want you inside and close to me! Is that too much to ask?"
"No, it certainly isn't!"
He picked you up and set you on the couch on his lap, you both chatted a tad bit before kissing and grinding on each other.
He frees his erection and you pump his length for a little while whispering sweet things in his ear that make him shudder. He languidly plays with your bead between his thumb and index finger while he sucks on the side of your neck. It doesn't take long until he is heavily panting under you.
"I just want to do cockwarming for now" You tell him
" That's fine by me, darling" He answers
It feels so good to smell his spicy cologne, to be in his strong embrace, you couldn't have asked for a better boyfriend than this. He's so robust that there are times where you wonder if it isn't just your sheer strength kink acting up.
You slide your panties to the side to let him in and you sighed when he is fully sheathed inside your cunny, right where you wanted him to be all day long after hearing those women from the second floor in that tea place.
You hug him, he puts his hands on your hips occasionally grinding which causes you to whimper, he loves to hear those coming from you. He is stroking you back with one hand while you rest your head on his shoulder and finally say
"Welcome home babe"
"Love you too" and he kisses your forehead.
a/n: Hello! This plot just randomly came to mind. It's kind of sad and a little angsty but you'll get through reading it. I promise! also, the words in italics is a flashback :)
Tumblr media
Your family has been a close family friend to the Lee’s family and that was because your mother and Mrs Lee were best friends since high school. Also the reason why you were only 27 days older than Mr and Mrs Lee’s only son. However, not everyone has a happy friendship. In this case, it was you and the said son. His name was Lee Sangyeon and it was pretty obvious that you two could never get along since you were in diapers.
Despite your mothers being best friends and have been for the past 30 years, give or take. It’s no wonder that when they were pregnant with the both of you, they kept fighting with each other over small silly things when they barely got past even the slightest of arguments throughout their friendship.
And yet, it seems like luck was never on your side to begin with because throughout your whole education life up till today, he always ends up in your school or at least the school that you chose specifically hoping to be as far from him as possible.
It always baffles you how he would be the first person you spot amongst the crowd during the first day of school.
Did he do all these on purpose?
Why would he go to this extent just to annoy you if you both hated each other?
Maybe he didn’t in fact do this on purpose, but still, what are the odds that you end up in the same campus amongst the hundreds of schools available? That was a mystery you never plan on solving.
It was a bright Tuesday afternoon, students were scattered all over the large campus of Hangang University. You had just parked your car in a free space, exiting your vehicle before proceeding to lock it and walk towards the Computer Science building. You were halfway through the parking lot when someone suddenly swung an arm over your shoulder.
“Good morning my favourite person in the world!” Lisa giggled to your left as Rosie appeared on your right with her usual beaming smile that could melt hearts with just a glance.
“Hey girls, you’re early” You asked with a soft chuckle knowing Lisa was always late for class.
“Yeah, I wanted to leave my apartment now like I always do but Rosie begged me to drive her today because her baby is in the workshop.” Lisa huffs, only for the blonde girl on your right to defend herself.
“Hey, at least we got here on time. You’re welcome.”
With that, Lisa stuck out her tongue at Rosie, earning a laugh from you. The three of you continued to walk to the CS building, only to find Jennie and Jisoo chatting by the lockers while Jennie scavenged through her locker.
Tumblr media
“Ew, is it just me or is the barbeque chicken a little dry today?” Jisoo scowls as she drops the chicken leg back onto her plate.
“No, I agree. It’s foul.” Lisa’s face contorts in disgust before you speak up.
“Do you guys want my salmon instead? I'm kind of full already.” You said, only to find them staring at you in concern. They began asking you if you were feeling okay and if you needed any medication of any sorts. To which you shook your head and just told them you were already full from the breakfast your mother made for you before she left for work with your dad.
Lisa and Jisoo ended up sharing your salmon piece, making you smile. At least your food wouldn’t be wasted, you thought.
A few hours later, your classes for the day were finally over. All you know is that your bed has been waiting for your arrival since the minute you left for school. You left class slightly later, telling the girls you had something to discuss with your lecturer regarding the assignment.
You told them to just head home first and not wait for you.
Almost 20 minutes later, you finally left the lecture room to head towards the parking lot where you had parked your car earlier. Your mind was clouded with the assignment requirements as you scrolled through the soft copy of the assignment through your email, too caught up in your thoughts to notice the group of boys walking down the hall.
That wasn’t until your shoulder roughly collided against someone’s back. It sent your whole body to stumble back from the impact. You were about to apologize when you heard a snicker coming from whoever it was.
So you glanced up and lord behold, it was just the person you were looking for…
Not really.
“Can you pay attention to where you walk? It’s not that hard to use your eyes.” Sangyeon’s voice was monotonous yet a pitch higher than others, just like his ego.
“That’s because you’re in my way, Lee.” You said sarcastically as you walked past him, not forgetting to purposely bump into his arm. He let out a scoff under his breath, fiery glare burning a prominent hole into the back of your head.
God, you can be such a pain in the ass sometimes. Him included.
A few days later, it was finally a Friday. You heard words going around campus saying that one of the seniors in the school’s football team was having a frat party at his place tonight. He invited everyone in the football team, and people that he knew. Turns out he also told his teammates to bring whoever they wanted whether he knows them or not.
Lucky for you (or maybe not), Rosie’s boyfriend happens to be one of the football players. If you remember correctly, his name is Yunhyeong.
And so you already know where this is going.
Hence, the reason why you were now standing right outside the house where the party was held.
No doubt the house was a beautiful landed property at the hills that overlooked the city, it still didn’t give you complete comfort knowing that you would be surrounded by drunk young adults who have no care in the world once the alcohol takes over their system.
Sure you sometimes go to these parties but you weren’t really that type of girl. It’s always an unpleasant surprise to others who aren't your girls, when you decline their offers of alcohol saying you don’t drink.
Though there were instances where you’d have some people still insisting on giving you a drink, you rejected them firmly whether they liked it or not.
And today was no different.
One moment, you were talking to your friends. Another moment, and you were suddenly left alone by the kitchen island. Isolating yourself from the countless intoxicated bodies, dancing freely without a single care in the world.
It suddenly dawned on you that you were indeed alone, with no other individual that you recognize in that huge house. Your friends were scattered around the main living area, each of them either with their significant other or just randomly hooking up with someone. Using alcohol as an excuse to be brave and approach someone at a party like this.
You sighed, reaching into your back pocket to fish for your phone. You were so close to texting them you wanted to head home first, when a deep voice broke your little bubble of thoughts.
“Hey… Y/N right?” The handsome boy asked as he smiled down at you softly.
He clearly didn’t seem too drunk, nor was he completely sober like you.
“Yeah… you are?” You asked, hoping you didn’t sound like a bitch.
“I’m Changkyun. I see your friends have left you so I thought maybe you’d want some company?”
Well, at least he’s being considerate enough.
“About that… I was actually about to-” As you were talking, your eyes were searching the room for at least one of the girls. But instead, your gaze was locked on a specific individual who was leaning against the staircase railings just staring at you with a subtle frown on his face, making your voice halt in your throat.
It was Sangyeon.
You should’ve known he would be there tonight. He’s the freaking midfielder in Hangang U’s soccer team for goodness sake!
For some reason, the moment you met his eyes, it was as though you got sucked into a black hole with no way to escape. That wasn’t until the warm touch on your arm made you jolt away and soon turned back to Changkyun who was now staring at you with worry.
“Hey? You okay? What’s wrong?” He asked, hoping he didn’t scare you away by that simple touch.
“Y-Yeah… Sorry Changkyun, but I think I’m gonna head home. See you around.” You gave him a sincere smile before turning to leave after he said his goodbye.
There is no way you’re gonna stay there any longer. It’s not like you were drunk or anything. Not like you’d expected him to show up in black leather pants, dark grey button down shirt tucked in, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, his hair parted close to the middle to frame his face and show his forehead, attractively. And definitely not like you felt as though your stomach was doing a flip in your abdomen after seeing him there physically.
Right?
No. You still hate him. He’s just a walking nuisance in your life. You don’t feel anything for him. Maybe he needs to stop appearing in your line of vision every 5 minutes.
It’s been two weeks since that frat party in which you had texted your friends saying you were already at home. Of course you didn’t get a response immediately but they still replied to you the next morning, telling you they were safe and they were glad that you were too.
It was a rainy Wednesday afternoon where students were all stuck on campus with nowhere to go. You were just seated at a wooden table alone with your laptop and scattered notes on the surface when the ray of sunlight that was previously shining down on you, got blocked by a figure.
You glanced up and not surprisingly, it was Sangyeon. He was alone. For once. He was always with his friends, so you wondered why he chose to walk around alone today.
“What?” You asked nonchalantly before looking back down at your laptop.
You heard a scoff from him only for him to speak up, “Did your parents tell you?”
You got confused as you looked back up to him and blinked, incredulously at what he just asked you.
“Tell me what?” You asked. He wasn’t sure if he was faking it or not but he figured with how genuinely confused you look, it was quite clear you weren’t pretending to not know what he was referring to.
“My parents are coming over to your home this weekend to discuss ‘something serious’. I’m not going. I’m not about to sit there and listen to what the ‘something serious’ is, let alone sit there trapped and stare at you the whole night.” Sangyeon said blankly as he burned holes in your head.
“Good. I wouldn’t want you there anyway.” You scoffed, only for him to push himself off the table and smoothed down his shirt.
Sangyeon left without saying anything else, watching as he turned his head as though in search of his friends. However, the minute you looked back down at your laptop, it seems like you missed the way he glanced at you subtly before turning back in front.
That same day, you went home to find your parents in the living room. Your father was watching the news on the flat screen tv while your mother was just watering the potted plants on the shelves.
The minute you stepped into the living room, your father turned to you and smiled brightly, “Oh, sweetie you’re back. We wanted to tell you that Mr and Mrs-” but before he could finish, you did it for him, stunning them in the process.
“-Lee are coming over this weekend to discuss ‘something serious’... I know.”
With that, your mother and father glanced at each other before a smile appeared on their faces again. You already knew what they were about to ask so you beat them to it.
“Sangyeon told me… So what’s so serious that they wanna come over here and talk about it?” You asked, not knowing what to expect but all you got was silence.
“We have to wait till everyone’s there.”
“Not everyone’s gonna be there…” You said.
“What do you mean?” Your mother asked.
“Sangyeon said he’s not coming. He doesn't want to.”
“B-But, he has to be there. It’s important.”
“What’s so important that he has to be there for?” Your voice laced with annoyance at the thought of having to sit in a room with him for minutes too long. Your parents got quiet before your mother spoke up again but for some reason, her voice sounded weak.
“You’ll know on Saturday.” She gave you a weak smile. Too weak to the point that she almost looks… pale?
Why is she pale?
But your mind was too jumbled up with what the main topic for this said family dinner would revolve around. Hence, why you were now sprinting up the steps and to your room. You didn’t want to think about it anymore. You just hoped the weekend passes by before you know it.
Tumblr media
Saturday came in a flash and to say you were ready for whatever family gathering this was, is definitely a lie. You were curious. You were desperate to know just what important business is there to discuss with you and Sangyeon. Despite knowing he won’t be there for whatever this meeting is about, it still rendered you curious on just how important this said matter is.
You were told to look presentable even though you’ll just be at home. So you pulled out the nicest outfit you could find and just opted for a simple blouse and your denim jeans.
Once you were done getting ready, you left your room only to hear your mother calling out to you from downstairs, “Y/N sweetie, the Lee’s are here!”
You made your way down the marbled steps, ready to greet the elder couple when your eyes fell on their son who clearly said he wasn’t going to be here. But of course, it looked like he had been forced against his own will to be here and you were right.
“Oh! My sweet Y/N! It’s been so long. How are you my dear?” Mrs Lee asked as you broke your gaze from Sangyeon only to smile happily when you looked at his parents.
“Hello Mr and Mrs Lee. I’m doing well despite my crazy uni life. I hope you’re both well and healthy!” You said as Mrs Lee hugged you warmly like how she had been doing since you were young.
After greeting them, the 6 of you began walking to your dining room. You then turned to Sangyeon who was walking beside you, only to ask out of curiosity, “Didn’t you say you weren’t gonna come?”
With that, he turns to you and shoots daggers at you through his glare but it does nothing to scare you away.
“Do I look like I wanna be here?”
“Clearly.” You said, just to get on his nerves and it did.
“Fuck you.”
“I’d gladly fuck myself too.”
Sangyeon frowns at your comment despite knowing it was sarcastic. But he still found it amusing that it came out from your mouth. Sure you’ve cursed him a lot of times when you fought with him, but this was a different thing.
All of you finally sat down in the dining room, you helped your mother set the table.
A few minutes went by and everyone was just chatting amongst one another. Well, more specifically the elders while you and Sangyeon simply sat there across each other in silence. You were absentmindedly picking on your food, suddenly losing appetite.
All you wanted was for them to start discussing the very important business. Which is why your patience has run thin, making you blurt out the question that has been floating in your head since Wednesday.
“What’s the important thing you called me and Sangyeon here for?”
The room fell silent as you kept your eyes on your plate of untouched food. Completely ignoring the way Sangyeon had his eyes trained on you. After what felt like hours, your mother finally announced it.
It made your heart stop for a moment.
“We have decided to marry you off with Sangyeon.”
That was the last thing you ever wanted to hear from them. Never did you expect it to be this. Why were they doing this to you? Of course you know you’re single and not dating anyone but still… How could they?
“What?!” Both you and Sangyeon said in unison.
Tension filled the air, thick in its wake. You couldn’t look elsewhere except for your mother who had announced the news.
“You’ve got to be kidding me…” You mumbled under your breath as Sangyeon got up, letting the chair drag painfully across the wooden floor. His mother grabbed his wrist to stop him but he roughly yanked his wrist from her and simply replied with his firm answer, “There’s no way I’m marrying her. I’m out.”
Sangyeon stormed out and you were so tempted to do the same but all you could do was glare at your parents in disbelief.
“Sweetie-” Your mom began but you were quick to interject.
“No! That’s not happening! Mom, you know we hate each other! How can you ask me to marry him when I don’t even love him?!” Your voice was raised as you stood up from your seat. Blood boils in your veins, heart pounding rapidly in your chest out of pure anger. You wanted nothing more but to scream.
You turned in your heels to leave but your mother caught your hands when you were about to reach the stairs. You pulled your hand from her grip, throwing your arm behind your back from the force.
“Sweetie please, listen to me-”
“No mom! I’m not marrying him and that’s final!” You yelled, too furious to even notice the way your mom had clutched her chest as her breathing started to become shallow.
Before you knew it, your mother collapsed to the ground but you were quick to catch her body right when she was about to crash onto the hard wooden floor.
“Mom!” You gasped as your dad and both of Sangyeon’s parents rushed over to where you were.
Mr Lee called the ambulance in which they came just 10 minutes later, carrying your mother’s unconscious body onto the stretcher and bringing her into the ambulance. Your father followed her in the vehicle while Mr Lee offered you a ride there.
Hours passed and you were waiting patiently outside the ER when a doctor came out. Your dad rushed over so you could only guess that she was the one who attended to your mom.
“Doctor, how’s my wife?”
“Your wife’s still under constant checks but so far, her heart is beating stably. However, it seems that her abnormal white blood cells have rapidly multiplied since her last check up.” The doctor said, making you frown.
“White blood cells? What’s going on? What’s wrong with my mother?” You asked desperately, still not sure of what’s going on.
“Your mother was diagnosed with Leukaemia stage 2 but from what I saw today, I believe it’s now up to stage 4.” The doctor announced, making you even more confused.
“What?” You whispered as you stared at your dad, hoping that it’s not true. But all you got was a disheartened smile that broke you into a million pieces.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” You whispered to him sadly, upset that they’ve been keeping this a secret from you.
“I’m sorry baby, but your mother told me not to. She… She didn’t want you to get worried.” He replied.
You don’t understand. You knowing about this was better than keeping it hidden from you. If you had known about this sooner, you wouldn’t have shouted at her. Instead, you would have taken extra care of her. You would have given her more love than what she gave you. And you wouldn’t have to stand here, right now, hoping for your mother’s safety and health.
You slumped onto one of the chairs, staring into space as your father rubbed soft circles into your back to calm you down.
Tumblr media
Three days passed and you have been visiting your mother at the hospital diligently after your classes. You stayed till night time, allowing your dad to fetch you from the hospital after he also came by to visit your mom.
You were currently alone in the room with your mom as your dad went out to buy dinner for all three of you.
She was just lying there sleeping peacefully after having a deep conversation with her about some things, her eyes now closed, breathing consistent, chest heaving up and down according to her oxygen intake.
You were just about to doze off when the heart rate monitor suddenly began beeping rapidly. It caused you to panic as you ran out of the room to call for the nurses.
When you came back, your mother was shaking on the hospital bed. Tears started streaming down your face as you found yourself curled up in the corner just watching the hospital staff do whatever is necessary to help your mother.
You didn’t notice your dad who had just come back, only to rush to you after putting the food down on the desk. It was when he cupped your face, that you finally realized his presence.
He pulled you against him as you couldn’t tear your eyes off your mother’s figure, shaking violently on the bed.
It was as though someone had dropped a bomb just a few feet away, a deafening silence pierced your ear drums followed by the single beep sound that was continuous without a pause. The sound soon became a mere ring in your ears.
You slowly brought your line of sight towards the heart rate monitor beside your mother’s bed and that’s when you saw it. The painful straight line with no spikes going up or down.
That’s when you knew, she was gone.
No. This can’t be real. This is just a dream. Wake up Y/N. Pinch yourself. Slap yourself. Do whatever it is to wake yourself up from this nightmare!
And yet, you’re still there in your dad’s arms listening to the nurse who wrote down the words you never hoped to hear.
“Patient is Jeong Hyemin. Time of death, 2143hrs.”
All the more you cried harder against your father’s chest. You were broken. Completely and utterly broken. Your mother left you before you could even say goodbye. She left before you could even tell her that you love her unconditionally even though you told her that everyday.
As much as your heart hurts, you knew you had to accept it. You knew you had to be strong for your mother. And that was exactly what you did.
The next whole week, you didn’t come to school. You emailed your lecturers personally and told them about your loss. They all sent you their well wishes for you and your dad, to which they excused you from school to attend your mother’s funeral. It broke you but you couldn’t collapse just then.
Your mother would want you to be happy, to continue living a wonderful life, with or without her. And that’s exactly what you were gonna do.
Tumblr media
The next two weeks came as a blur and you were dreading for the day to finally arrive. You couldn’t bring yourself to look in the mirror and see what you looked like. Because at that very moment, you were in an item of clothing where you never thought you would wear anytime soon.
It was a wedding dress. Your wedding dress. It has finally come to this.
Your makeup stylist did a few touch ups to your eyeshadow whilst another lady adjusted the bow on your waist that separates your laced top with your beautiful silk gown that drops to the floor elegantly behind you.
If you were being honest, you had hoped for this very day to come when you would walk down the aisle with your arm linked with your dad’s while your mother stood at the front row, watching you proudly. Witnessing you entering a new life with your chosen partner whom you’d love with all your heart.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t the case for you and it hurts you. But you kept telling yourself the same thing over and over again.
“I have to stay strong.”
That was the last thing you mumbled to yourself as you left the bride’s room, only to head towards the outdoor wedding ceremony where your parents had already booked an incredibly beautiful mansion located at the highest hills of the city.
It was a small ceremony with only your family and his, and very close relatives of both sides but that was it. None of your friends were there but you already told them about today.
Little did you know, his friends knew about it too.
You were approaching the outdoor garden where everyone was waiting for you when all of a sudden, your emotions started swirling in you.
A tear rolled down your cheek the minute you saw your dad standing at the doorway which leads you directly down the aisle. Your dad gave you a soft smile before cupping your face and kissing your forehead. He wiped the tear away with his thumb as he whispered, “You look so beautiful, sweetheart. I’m sure your mother would be so happy to see you like this.”
With that, you had to force your tears back, swallowing them as you nodded before linking your arm with his.
The song started playing and soon, both of you began to walk down the aisle. The first thing you saw was Sangyeon standing at the foot of the platform. He was wearing a navy blue tuxedo, looking quite handsome if you were being completely honest.
But the frown on his face was evident enough for you to know that he didn’t like this as much as you didn’t like this either.
Once you were standing just two feet away, you turned to your dad who kissed you again on the forehead before putting your hand in Sangyeon’s outstretched ones. After your dad left your side, Sangyeon guided you up the steps carefully.
His touch was soft, almost as if he wasn’t touching you at all. Minutes went by and right after you’ve both said your vows, it was time for the exchange of rings and sealing the deal with a kiss but of course, neither of you agreed to it. So when you were officially announced as husband and wife, you both looked at each other with a familiarity in your eyes which screamed “I hate all of this”.
Sangyeon lets out a soft groan before planting a chaste kiss to your temple, pulling away as soon as he kisses.
Both of you walked back down the aisle and once you were in the mansion, it took you less than a second to walk away from him and make your way straight to the bride’s makeup room.
Sangyeon didn’t bother to call for you as he too made his way to the common room, wanting to be as far away from you as possible. He hated every single minute of this. He never wanted this. But he was being forced to. And he doesn’t even know why.
When he heard from his parents that you accepted the arranged marriage, it baffled him.
You were both so adamant on rejecting this whole fiasco during that night of the dinner so what changed your mind?
That was a question he could never solve.
Tumblr media
Days became weeks and you had moved into the new home that his parents and yours bought for Sangyeon and you to live in. It was a beautiful one story home that had 3 bedrooms, one study room, one living room and a backyard complete with a swimming pool. You were thankful for the home but you didn’t think it was necessary considering the state that you and Sangyeon were being put in.
Nevertheless, you didn’t want to disappoint the elders. Hence the reason why you moved in with Sangyeon without a single argument with your dad and in-laws.
Unfortunately, the fact that you two were now living under the same roof, it was quite expected of you to end up fighting over the smallest little things. If being within radius of each other on campus brought unnecessary snickers and curses to one another, living under the same roof only heightened those said things by 80%.
There wasn’t a day where you could walk around the house peacefully unless the other wasn't home.
It has been 8 weeks since you lived there with him. Despite the constant fights and heated arguments that the two of you often get into, none of it leads to the other doing unfaithful things behind each other’s back.
Before the marriage, it was quite clear that you weren’t in any sort of relationship with anyone nor were you the kind to sleep around with strangers you just met at a club or parties. Whereas, Sangyeon on the other hand was completely that, except he too was single. He tends to sleep around with girls he met at a party or the clubs he went to.
But never did he actually pursue any of his one night stands because he simply didn’t feel that way for them.
However, when he got married to you despite being against it, he made a promise to himself that he should not do all those things to you even if he doesn’t love you. Because he knows that it’s wrong and that he despises people who cheat on their partners.
For that, he told himself not to be that monster.
And he didn’t. Thankfully.
But that doesn’t mean he couldn’t storm out of the house after an argument just to get fresh air and be away from you at that very moment.
This goes both ways as sometimes, you would do the same if you couldn’t stand being in radius of him.
But tonight was different.
You were just washing the dishes when the front door opened to reveal a very drained Sangyeon who had just gotten back from the gym.
He strolled through down the hallway with his duffle bag strap resting on his right shoulder, the wet patches on his grey tank top sticking to his torso, black track shorts resting on his hips. His hair was slicked back from being drenched in sweat.
You spared him a quick glance over your shoulder before you turned back to the dirty dishes. Unfortunately for you, he caught you glancing just in time.
He walked past you to go to the fridge after putting his bag down on the floor, opening it and immediately grabbing the bottle of iced water sitting there patiently for him to take it. He downed half the bottle in less than 5 seconds, only to hear him let out a satisfied sigh right after.
You remained quiet as he looked at you for a moment, a small part of him wanted to ask you if you’ve eaten but a bigger part of him, more so his ego, was telling him to walk away.
For some reason, he decided to go with the former. Something he hasn’t been doing all these years.
“Had your dinner yet?” He asked, making you turn off the tap after setting down the clean dish onto the rack above your head before turning to him with a slight confusion on your face.
“Mhm. You?”
“Not yet.” He said as he leaned his hip against the counter top.
“What do you feel like eating?” You asked, wiping your hands dry with the towel hanging off the hook on the wall.
“I kind of have the feel for kimchi fried rice… I’ll just make do with what is there in the fridge. No worries.” Sangyeon said with a soft smile on his face before he left to take a long shower. Something he always did when he had a lot going on in his mind.
The minute he left, you stared at his descending back for a minute before turning back with a confused frown on your face.
Sangyeon was in the shower for almost 20 minutes. Taking a warm bath to calm his tensed muscles due to the intense workout he did with Juyeon and Hyunjae earlier. After his stress relieving bath, Sangyeon changed into a pair of sweatpants and his oversized shirt he normally uses to sleep.
He towel dried his hair, leaving it in an utter mess on his head with no care whatsoever.
He simply brushed through his wet locks with his fingers haphazardly before leaving his bedroom toilet. Sangyeon and you weren’t sharing bedrooms. It was just a mutual agreement right from the first night together.
You took the master bedroom in this house while he took the second bedroom.
Sangyeon was just walking down the hall, scratching the back of his head randomly when he caught a strong whiff of something delicious filling his nostrils.
“What the?” He whispered to himself as he cautiously made his way closer to the end of the hall. The minute he made a right turn, that’s when he saw you scooping out the contents of the pan into a clean plate. To his surprise, it was the exact dish he told you he was planning to cook earlier.
He finally stepped out of the shadows, only to startle you.
You flinched but that was it.
“Hey… I figured you’d be too tired to cook so I made it for you. Just leave the plate in the sink after you’re done. I’ll wash it later.” You pressed your lips into a small little smile before placing the dish on the kitchen island together with a spoon.
Right when you were about to leave the kitchen, his voice stopped you from walking any further only to hear him whisper a soft “thank you” to you.
You gave him a nod and soon left.
Sangyeon stares at your descending back before you disappear from his trail of sight, only to then tilt his head in amusement at your sudden kind act. For some reason, he found himself smiling as he took a mouthful of your delicious fried rice.
Another 3 weeks went by and you had just gotten back from your night study session with Lisa and Jennie, only to find Sangyeon slumped on the couch. He had his face buried in his hands as he looked like he hadn’t slept for days.
You frowned as you locked the door and soon went over to stand behind the long couch, diagonally from the couch he was sitting at.
“Rough day?” You asked quietly, but all you got was silence so you tried again.
“Have you eaten?”
Silence.
“Do you want anything to eat?”
Silence.
“Sangyeon, even if you hate me, at least say yes or no so I can-” And that’s when he bursts.
“Shut the fuck up!” Sangyeon yelled as he glared at you. His nostrils flared upon every heavy breath he took. You were stunned by his harsh tone, clearly not wanting any argument when you first asked the question.
“Excuse me?” You asked with a tone that was pretty obvious to anyone that you were clearly offended by his words.
“Didn’t you hear me?! I said shut the fuck up!” Sangyeon stood tall, his face red as you could only imagine he was stressed about something. A scoff left your lips, feeling the anger seeping through your skin with every word he said to you.
“Why? Why do you want me to shut the fuck up so badly?!” You asked as you stared at him with mixed emotions.
“God, you’re so fucking annoying!” Sangyeon growled as he began to storm off but you stopped him by grabbing his wrist.
“Answer my fucking question, Lee Sangyeon! I was just being nice and caring about your well being and all I got was to shut up? You’re a fucking asshole you know that?” You said, your words filled with venom as he gritted his teeth, jaw clenching tight.
“Who taught you to be such a brat? Your mother?” Sangyeon accidentally blurted that out of sheer anger. Your grip around his wrist left and the next thing he knew, your eyes were glossy from the tears threatening to fall.
“Don’t bring my mother into this.” You warned but he was still fuming with anger.
“Why? Why can’t I?! She’s the only reason why we’re in this stupid marriage anyway!”
You didn’t know what ran through your mind but the minute those words left his mouth, you couldn’t help but swing your hand onto his cheek. This shocked him to a certain extent as he simply glared at you but never did anything to hurt you physically.
“Do you know why I accepted the marriage proposal? Do you wanna know why I decided to walk down that fucking aisle and have myself being called as your official wife?! Well here’s the reason why. I promised my mom I would.” You paused as he remained quiet. You could almost see the cogs turning in his brain as though trying to process your words.
“My mom died wanting me to marry you. She told me she wanted to see me walk down the aisle one day and into your arms. Until now, I don’t understand why she specifically wants it to be you, but that’s what she wanted. So I promised her that she would be there for when that day comes. But she left me before she could even witness that for herself. She left before I could even say goodbye. It broke me. It fucking broke me Sangyeon! That’s why I chose to accept the proposal even when…”
You stopped for a moment, not realizing that you had been crying until you tasted salty tears on your lips.
“...even when I didn’t love you. I did it because I made a promise to her. I don’t want to let her down, Sangyeon.... I never wanted any of this to happen. And I know you feel the same so I’m sorry.” Those were the last things you said to him before going to your bedroom and locking yourself in there.
Sangyeon was left standing there, feeling completely shitty with what he said to you earlier. He never meant to hurt your feelings. He should’ve known better not to mention your mom but he only said that out of pure anger.
He knows it’s his fault but his ego was too high for him to simply give in to his mistake.
He was about to just brush this off when he heard the door click and soon, you were seen leaving your bedroom with a cross body purse on you. You didn’t give him the chance to speak as you just left the house with a soft slam of your front door. He watched as you took your white mini cooper and drove out of the driveway.
Tumblr media
“Sweetie, why don’t you want to accept the proposal?” Your mother asked weakly as you sat on the chair beside her hospital bed.
“Mom, you know I don’t love him. We’ve been fighting since we were kids. I don’t see why I should marry someone who I don’t love.”
“Oh sweetie, you can only learn to love by loving.”
“Mom, that’s just fairy tale talk.”
“Do you wanna know something?” She asked as you stared at her quietly while you caressed the back of her hand with your thumbs as he took this silence to continue.
“Your father and I weren’t on good terms too when we first met each other. We always fought in high school and it went on for quite a while until Mrs Lee set me up on this blind date and it was with your father. At first we found it ridiculous, but after that first date, I realized that maybe your father wasn’t as bad as I thought. And so, we started to slowly understand the process of loving someone and soon enough, we fell in love. Love doesn’t always come to you directly. Sometimes, you need to find it yourself.”
She paused, studying your facial expressions carefully to make sure you weren’t angry or about to burst at her for the next thing she was planning to say.
“Can you promise me something sweetie?”
“Anything… Anything at all mom.” You said with a glint of hope in your eyes.
“Can you promise me that you’ll marry Mrs Lee’s son? I don’t care when. Just… as long as it’s him. Even if I’m not around anymore...”
“Mom-”
“Please? For me?”
Your heart broke hearing her pleading voice. You don’t understand why she was so persistent in you marrying him but for now, you couldn’t bear to say no. You couldn’t bear to break her heart. So, with a heavy heart, you chose your mother’s happiness before yours.
“Okay mom… I promise. But you have to promise me too that you’ll be fine and that you’ll come back to me and dad, okay?”
“I promise, sweetheart. I love you so much.” She said.
“I love you too mom.”
Tumblr media
That night when you came back to your old house, your dad greeted you at the door with a shocked look on his face. He asked you why you were there at such a late time so you explained to him that you got into a big fight with Sangyeon and that you wanted to stay there for the next few days. Of course your father was happy that he would finally have someone in the house with him, but he was also worried that Sangyeon would be concerned over you.
You told him not to tell Sangyeon anything and that you wanted time away from him for now, in which your dad just nodded understandingly. The next few days, you spent your days diligently avoiding Sangyeon as much as you can despite being in the same campus. Lucky for you, he had very different schedules than you.
Which means, better chance for you to avoid him and not accidentally bump into him on campus grounds. And so far, your plan is working.
It’s been at least 3 weeks since you last went home to your shared place with him and you were starting to run low on your clothing supply back at your old house. Which means, you probably had no choice but to go back there now.
In all honesty, you weren’t mad at him anymore.
You were just too stubborn to face him after that argument. But it looks like you have no other choice now.
Hence, the reason why you were currently standing outside your doorstep at 8pm, noticing the vehicles parked outside your gates. By the looks of it, those probably belonged to his friends. And you were right. Because the minute you unlocked the door, you were immediately greeted by the chattering and laughter coming from the living room.
You walked in further, carefully after taking off your shoes and placing them in the shoe rack. Right when you had just made it by the end of the hallway and the living room was in full view, that’s where you saw the 6 figures scattered around the room.
The TV was playing a movie while the coffee table was filled with boxes of pizzas and other snacks for them to munch on.
Before you could speak up, two of them noticed your presence, making the blonde haired one to say hi, “Oh, hi Y/N.”
With that, the rest of them finally turned around upon hearing their friend greet you. Sangyeon, who was standing right in front of the TV, checking the cables, whipped his head around only to lock eyes with you. He froze in his spot, unsure if this was real considering you’ve been avoiding him like a plague the past 3 weeks.
“Y/N…” Was the only thing he managed to whisper under his breath as you awkwardly chuckled, hoping you didn’t create an unsettling atmosphere for them.
“Hey…” You whispered as he carefully made his way to you. The moment he was standing right in front of you, neither of you spoke. Both of you are afraid of saying the wrong thing which could potentially lead to another argument. But Sangyeon was smart enough to know not to make unnecessary comments to you after what happened the last time. So instead, he opted for an apology.
“Listen, about that night… I- I’m really sorry… I didn’t... I didn’t know.”
You could only give him a small smile that he could clearly see was weak and almost drained as you spoke up, “It’s okay. Anyways… I think I’m gonna rest.”
He simply nodded, resisting the urge to pull you into a hug and tell you how sorry he was for treating you like crap all these while. These past 3 weeks have made him realise that he wasn’t the nicest of people to you, that he said a lot of things that had definitely hurt you in the past, that he has been nothing but mean to you.
Upon hearing your bedroom door close, Sangyeon lets out a defeated sigh before walking back to his friends who then asked him if everything was okay. After he told them that everything was indeed okay, he plopped back down on the couch but it seemed to worry his friends seeing how sad Sangyeon looked at the moment.
Whenever he was with them, he has always been the goofy, savage, often picking on the others to get a reaction out of them, kind of guy. They’ve never properly seen this softer side of him.
It’s been nearly an hour since you came home and yet, he hasn’t caught a single glimpse of you anywhere. He got worried for you, not knowing whether you’ve eaten or not. So he decided to check on you. He got up from the ground to excuse himself, telling them to just continue what they were doing.
When he arrived at your supposedly shared bedroom, he found you seated on the window couch just staring into the night sky. However, before he could even knock on the door and push it wider, he heard soft sobs from you that gradually grew louder. He stayed by the door and unintentionally listened to your whispers.
“I miss you mum… I’m sorry if I couldn’t live up to my promise just like you wanted me to. I know I’m not the best wife to him, but I’m trying… I’m trying… for you. I wish you were still here beside me. To guide me on how to be a good wife. To love someone without feeling trapped. To love someone the way you and dad loves me. I’m so sorry mum… I’m so truly sorry…”
Sangyeon’s heart shattered into a million pieces for you. That’s when he realized that his feelings for you had changed. That all he wanted to do right at this very moment was to protect you. You were broken, fragile and yet, he’s been treating you horribly all these while.
He couldn’t take it any longer. With that being said, he carefully and quietly made his way to you. Not making a sound as you had your head buried in your knees, cries getting louder the closer he came to you. However, when you felt his soft hands caress the sides of your arms, you looked up. Your eyes glistened under the moonlight, your cheeks soaked with your freshly falling tears.
At that moment, you looked so vulnerable.
So when he pulled you into his embrace, you easily let him. Burying your face into his chest as he gently rubs circles onto your back, caressing your head comfortingly.
After a few seconds of silence, you finally whispered against his chest. Just loud enough for him to hear, but soft enough that nobody standing outside the door could hear.
“I miss her Sangyeon…”
Sangyeon wasn’t sure how to respond to your confession but he tried as best as he could to make you feel better.
“And I know that she misses you too. But it’s okay, she will always be with you. You’ll be okay… I promise.” He whispered and almost immediately, you pulled back as he frowned in confusion.
“You shouldn’t promise me anything…” You said, your tears slowly getting lesser and lesser by the minute.
“Why do you say that?”
“Because the last time someone made me a promise, they promised me that they’ll be okay and that they’ll never leave me… And yet she did...” Your voice hushed. He could tell that that was your trauma. Making promises.
He felt a tear threatening to roll down his cheek but he managed to hold back. Sangyeon softly reached up to cup your face and caress your cheeks with both thumbs before he spoke up, “I’m sorry she did. I’m sorry that promise got broken. But it’s not her fault. You know it wasn’t. So let me make a promise to you now and this time, it won’t be broken.”
With that being said, you cried even harder as he just pulled you against his chest almost cradling you like a child. After almost 20 minutes in the room, he finally let go of your fragile figure and asked if you wanted to eat.
You told him you weren’t hungry and that you just wanted to rest. Sangyeon nodded, bringing you to the bed as he carefully tucked you in to make you cosy. He was about to leave you alone when you grabbed his wrists. Sangyeon turned around with such a soft gaze on you, it nearly melted you.
“Where are you going?” You asked with a soft voice, almost shy. Sangyeon found it so endearing that he couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
“I’m gonna go back to the boys and maybe call it a night early.” He smiled, to which you felt his other hand come to wrap its fingers around your extended wrist, gently pulling it away before caressing the back of your wrist with his thumb.
“Can you come back after… please?” You whispered as you saw him smile again before putting your hand down on the mattress softly.
“I will.”
Soon enough, Sangyeon left you in the room to rest for a bit while he went back to his friends and relayed the message to them. Thankfully, the boys were very understanding. They told Sangyeon to send their well wishes to you in which he definitely would. After they left, Sangyeon went ahead and cleared the leftover trash.
Silently thanking the boys for cleaning most of the mess up before he even came back into the living room. He was almost done cleaning, not forgetting to brush his teeth before going back to your room only to find you already asleep with your back facing the door.
Sangyeon couldn’t help but smile as he closed the door behind him and soon made his way quietly to the other side of the room.
He carefully pulled the duvet up, climbing into bed after putting the duvet back down.
He very gently lifted your head up to let his right arm slide under your neck as a pillow, proceeding to pull your body closer against his chest. Once you were both in a comfortable position, he gently wrapped his other hand around your waist. Caressing your side in a comforting manner.
“Goodnight Y/N.” He whispered as he soon drifted off into slumber.
Tumblr media
Ever since then, both of you had stopped the constant arguments. You weren’t always annoyed by every little thing the other did. In school, when you’d accidentally bump into one another, either one would smile and acknowledge the other. Some people who witnessed this, found it strange but your close friends didn’t.
It’s been a good 4 months since you’d reconciled with Sangyeon. Though there were disagreements at times, those arguments would however, be resolved as quickly as it came.
But one thing’s for sure, is that during the past 4 months, you and Sangyeon had slowly found yourselves falling for each other. Neither of you said it out loud, but apparently those around you could visibly tell. Especially your friends.
It was a Thursday afternoon, you and the girls were just walking to the lunch hall when Lisa spotted Sangyeon and his friends just walking down the main building. It seems like they were heading towards the lunch hall as well. With that being said, Lisa called out to Sangyeon’s name, causing him and the rest to turn.
The minute Sangyeon’s eyes locked on Lisa’s and then on you, his gaze softened as you saw the corner of his lips curving upwards into a cute smirk.
They stopped walking to let you girls catch up and once you did, Lisa immediately went to Juyeon and began talking to him casually. The other girls went to walk with the rest while you came to a quick stop beside Sangyeon before you continued walking with the others ahead of you.
“How was class?” He asked, his arm accidentally brushing against yours as you walked further down the building.
“Horrible. Can you believe he wants us to submit 10 codes by the end of this week? I swear that man wants me dead.” You groaned in annoyance, only to hear him chuckle. But what he said next, caught you by surprise.
“But I don’t want you dead.”
With that, you turned to him as a small smile appeared on your face despite the frown you had. Both of you walked in silence, just basking in the conversations of your friends when you felt a soft tickling feeling on your fingers.
You glanced down to see that his hand was playfully brushing against your fingers, making you look up to catch him already staring at you.
Sangyeon smiled at you innocently, not sure if he wanted to say anything else until he felt you slide your hand into his, lacing your fingers with his easily. Now it was his turn to look down and then back up at you. All he did was chuckle, a sound you could definitely get used to.
A week passed and it was finally the weekend. You and Sangyeon didn’t have anything planned for the day.
Or at least you thought.
You were just lounging on the couch on a beautiful Saturday evening when Sangyeon came over to plop down beside you with a cheeky smile on his face.
“You’re oddly happy? What’s going on?” You asked with a raise of your eyebrow.
“I have a surprise for you but you have to go get ready okay?”
“Get ready? It’s already 7 o’clock. Where can we go?” You asked but all you got was a soft whine from him telling you to just do it. You opted to listen as he reminded you to wear prettily. You weren’t sure where you were going so you didn’t want to either overdress or underdress.
So you opted for simple denim skinny jeans, a baby blue sleeveless top, a white long knit cardigan and a pair of beige chunky heeled sandals.
When you left your shared bedroom to go to the living room, you were surprised to see him dressed handsomely in his black skinny jeans, a white button down shirt with the first few buttons undone, along with a navy blue bomber jacket. You saw him look at your outfit from head to toe, only for him to smirk playfully at you.
“Damn, who knew my wife could look this beautiful?” Sangyeon teased, making you giggle.
“Sangyeon, I literally wear jeans everyday.”
“Exactly.”
When you realized what he was trying to say, you soon found yourself blushing as you walked over to him and gently slapped his chest with your hand. Urging him to go before you slapped that cute smirk off his face.
Sangyeon couldn’t help but laugh but nonetheless left the house in his matte black Bentley. You watched as he drove down the street, bringing you to a part of the city where you don’t remember going to before in your life. The car ride was filled with jokes and laughter coming from both of you. He distracted you too much to the point where you didn’t even notice you were already at the location he wanted to bring you.
You looked out the window and that’s when you realize, “Is this an outdoor cinema?” You gasped when you saw the open field with a large screen at the centre, along with the endless rows of couples seated on their own blankets with snacks and drinks of their preferences.
“Sangyeon… This is…” You were speechless and he could see.
He chuckled as he just stared at you with such endearment in his eyes. Some people would just call it love.
“It’s wonderful.” You finally got to finish your sentence, turning to him with a smile.
“I’m glad you think so. Now let’s go! The movie’s about to start.”
Two hours had passed and you were now a few minutes in of the second movie. You noticed some couples were starting to get comfortable on their blankets. You were starting to get tired just sitting up straight and Sangyeon noticed your subtle shifts, desperate to find a comfortable sitting position.
“Hey, you okay?” He asked quietly.
“Yeah. I’m okay, just a little tired from sitting up.” You explained with a bashful little smile. Just then, Sangyeon thought of an idea that was completely beyond your imagination.
Hence, when he patted the space in between his legs, you glanced down and then back at him who was seen smiling softly to you. None of it was making you feel creeped out. In fact, you felt safe and that you could trust him. After all, he was your husband anyways. Of course you trust him.
“Come here.” He said as he stared at you calmly. He wasn’t sure if you were entirely up for this but before he could take his words back, that’s when he saw you carefully crawling towards the space he patted earlier.
Once you were seated in front of him, Sangyeon scooted forward a little before he slid his arms around your waist.
He soon pulled you against his chest, before he whispered in your ear, “Comfortable?”
You turned your head to look at him but instead got slightly flustered by the close proximity that led you to feeling his lips accidentally brush against your own. You got quiet for a moment, praying that he didn’t hear the way your heart was pounding against your chest.
You couldn’t trust your voice so you opted for a soft hum to answer his question. The next few minutes, you found yourself getting more and more comfortable in his arms, putting your hands on top of his forearms as you unconsciously caressed his skin in a calming manner. All the while, Sangyeon was behind you, completely distracted from the movie in front of him.
Instead, his mind was fuzzy with how close you were to him at that very moment. This was something he never thought would happen back when he was still young.
But now that he was here with you, just cuddling at an outdoor movie theatre, he couldn’t help but want more of this. Sangyeon found himself smiling as he couldn’t help but give your sides a gentle squeeze, telling you that he was there with you and that he would never leave you.
Thankfully, you got the silent message.
Because right after he did that, you turned your head to look at him. His eyes held the galaxy. You found yourself getting lost in his eyes.
Both of you were silent but it wasn’t awkward. You didn’t know what came over you but a sense of confidence washes over you. With that being said, you carefully leaned forward to close the gap and soon pressed your lips on his.
To say he was taken aback slightly, is definitely an understatement.
But it took him less than 3 seconds to finally move his lips against yours in a smooth rhythm. You brought your right hand up to gently cup his face as you kissed him.
Sangyeon tightens his hold on you, pulling away from the kiss only to look into your eyes with such adoration. He wasn’t sure if now was the right time to express his feelings for you, but he thought, what was there to lose. So with that thinking, Sangyeon took a small breath before he uttered the 3 words he never thought he’d say to you but he did. And every single word he said at that moment, was as sincere as ever.
“I love you.”
You couldn’t help but smile softly at him before you kissed him again in a longing kiss before pulling away and replying to him with the exact emotions you felt for him genuinely.
“I love you too, Sangyeon.”
so, it’s friday, and to thank you for your undying support, love and care, and to give back for reaching an absolute crazy milestone, this is my version of the celebration I wanted to do. instead of doing one big one, I thought I’d welcome you to an old segment called:
Weekends With The Hoe
I think that’s what I used to call it when my username was diegohoegreeves, anyway.
you can either:
check out the list below and submit a prompt for a drabble
message me about anything and everything, ask me things, ask me random things, whatever
say hi, I don’t bite.
to partake in the drabbles:
check this list (thanks to the creator for the masterpiece)
choose a prompt or a few (tell me which sections it’s from if you use numbers etc)
tell me which character, either matt or buck
and wait for me to write you a drabble with it either from 100-500 words—but let’s be real, I always go over.
I’ll give the weekend to get prompts in or will close if this is crazy popular.
T&cs to note: I may twist the prompt, muhahah, and depending on number you may not see them all the same day you submit them | I don’t do dark stuff | you can either super specific or not at all.
hope this makes sense, I’m so nervous!
The minute I saw this image a fic idea popped into my head - but in true me form it took 2 weeks to actually come together into anything. Unbeta’d and about 1100 words of fluff. Post CS wedding with a side of Captain Charming feels.
A Picture Tells a Thousand Words
For close to three hundred years, the memories of Killian Jones had been curated solely by the power of his mind. Highly reliable, of course, with impressive attention to detail - as he frequently reminded Henry when he shared tales of his past life with the young author.
(And he had yet to find the lad’s eye-rolling any reason not to continue.)
With such a power of recall, there seemed little chance any of the intimate details of the day he married Emma Swan would slip into the shadowed recesses, no matter how many dark curses or damned fairies were thrown at them.
Yet he found himself drawn again and again to the simple black frame that hung on the wall of their living room, a moment of utter bliss captured perfectly in the curve of their lips and the light in their eyes as they danced together for the first time as husband and wife. He had known many a treasure over his long years on the sea, but none of those would ever be more valuable than this image, he thought, lovingly tracing a finger along the contours of Emma’s face.
“You are going to wear a track in the glass, Killian, if you don’t stop doing that.”
Emma’s arms snaked around his waist, her chin coming to rest on his shoulder. Though he couldn’t see her face, he had no doubt of the smile she was wearing - yet another image firmly locked in place without need of a photograph.
“Of all the magic I have ever come across,”  he said, turning in her arms until their foreheads came to rest together, “I think these photographs are the most powerful of all. A single moment preserved in time and yet it tells so much more of the tale.”
Emma smiled as she pulled back from him. “They say a picture tells a thousand words,” she said and he pondered the unfamiliar idiom, nodding sagely when the truth of it became clear.
“Indeed, love,” he agreed, his eyes drawn back to the image on the wall, knowing a thousand words would hardly have been enough to explain his feelings in that moment. His face in the picture, however, hid nothing; love and hope and utter, utter joy radiated from the static image; emotions mirrored exactly in the expression of his bride.
Not even a million words would do that justice.
Looping her fingers through his, Emma led him towards the kitchen table. “If you like that, I think you’re going to love what else I’ve got for you,” she said, eyes ablaze and pink colouring her cheeks in a way that never failed to bring out his mischievous side.
“Shall I lock the door, love?’ he said, eyebrows dancing as he pulled her towards him, nuzzling at the soft skin of her neck. “Head off any unwanted intruders....”
Emma snorted and stepped back from him, gesturing towards the nearest chair. “Just sit down, Captain,” she said with a grin, pushing a large, leather-bound book towards him. “This is what I’ve got for you.”
She pulled a chair towards his and sat down beside him, nudging his shoulder until he reached for the book. On the first page, he found the very same picture from the frame in the living room coupled with an embossed card with their names in gilt lettering. Although smaller, the joy in their union was no less apparent in this image and his finger went to the curve of Emma’s cheek without thinking.
“It’s a wedding album,” she said quietly, resting her hand on his.”I thought you might like a few more photos than just that one on the wall.”
He turned another page. On the facing pages were several smaller pictures, all taken as they made their vows, the smiles on their faces matched only by that of the Cricket as he officiated. So taken had he been by his bride, he had not realised at the time how delighted the doctor had been to see them wed - genuine pleasure shone in the man’s eyes as he stood between them.
He turned yet another page and then another, struck every time by joy on the faces of their friends and family despite the impending curse - and they were theirs, he realised; not Emma's alone, merely tolerating a pirate in their midst out of love for her, but people who had accepted him as one of their own despite his villainous past. In one image, Henry beamed out at him, his arm around his grandmother, both faces so alike, so full of hope. In another, Emma danced with her father; David’s pride in his daughter shining in his eyes, a father’s love displayed for all to see - he could only hope to feel the same one day with a child of his own.
Emma noticed the tear at the corner of his eye before he did, brushing it away with the pad of her thumb just as it began to fall. She leaned in to kiss his cheek, her lips soft and warm against his skin as she pushed her chair back and stood.
“I’ll leave you to look through it,” she whispered into his temple, kissing him once more before moving away. “I think you’ll especially like the next page.” She left the room without another word and he turned back to the book, slowly turning the page to see just what Emma had referred to.
He chuckled softly to himself when he saw it, and yet the lump in his throat as he considered just what this image represented would not abate. David stood by the altar, Emma by his side - and yet the prince’s eyes were not on his daughter. Instead, his gaze rested elsewhere, an expression of admiration and acceptance coupled with a wide smile. Despite knowing exactly where the outstretched hand led, Killian’s eyes were drawn along the lines of David’s arm and up into the face of the man whose arm reached out to meet it.
Into the face of the man being welcomed warmly into the prince’s family, no hint of suspicion or doubt despite whatever past misgivings he may have had.
Once, long ago, he had compared David to his brother - he had suggested nothing flattering at the time, so strong was his need to protect his pirate persona and keep the heroes at arm’s length, less they realise his worth was even less than they suspected.
In this photograph, however, this little piece of modern magic, he realised he had indeed found a brother in the place he had least expected - along with a true love, a son, and a large, if somewhat convoluted, family that he would fight for to his dying breath.  And that was a treasure no number of words was sufficient to express.
Fluffy Fridays—Chapter 174: Capitaine Crochet--pt. 2
Fluffy Fridays—Chapter 174: Capitaine Crochet--pt. 2
Pairing:  Captain Swan
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Emma’s first thought upon waking was that she didn’t feel sick to her stomach. Now that she’d entered into her second trimester, it looked like the morning sickness was finally abating.
Her second thought was that she was very much alone in her bed. Killian’s side was not only empty, but cold, proving he’d been up for a very long time. That in and of itself wasn’t so strange; he’d always been an early riser, but normally she could hear him puttering around downstairs or softly whistling sea shanties while he went about his morning. This morning–like far too many of late, the house was still and silent.
Had she snapped at him one too many times about his hovering? Had he finally gotten tired of her hormone and nausea induced surliness? She felt the guilt creep in when she thought of that moment she snapped at him a couple weeks ago and told him to get a hobby. He was just trying to help; she knew that, but old habits die hard. She’d spent so much of her time growing up  licking her wounds by herself that it was hard to let anyone–even the husband she loved with everything in her–take care of her.
Has it finally happened? That small, insecure voice deep within, asked, “Has he finally realized I’m not worth it? Has he gone off to find someone else who will let him care for them?
For a moment, the nausea almost returned, for a reason entirely unconnected to the little one inside, who was currently kicking for all she was worth, but Emma resolutely turned away from her insecurities. She knew Killian; had always known him. That man was as steady and faithful and dependable as any man she’d ever met. She’d be less surprised to hear that he’d doused the Jolly Roger in lighter fluid and set her on first than to hear he’d cheated on her–or even thought of doing so.
Her visits with Archie had really done wonders in helping her overcome her insecurities, even if they occasionally tried to creep back in.
No, it was more likely Killian was keeping his distance because it’s what he thought she wanted, what she needed.  It wasn’t. She needed him, even if early pregnancy discomfort brought out her worst side.
She shouldn’t have snapped at him the way she did. He deserved better.
And so she resolved to set things right–but first she had to find him.
His phone went straight to voicemail, not a surprise there. Killian was wary of technology at the best of times, and he seemed to have a particular aversion to what he called the “incessant chirping of that infernal talking phone”, and more often than not, he chose not to even turn it on in the first place. (They’d need to have a talk about that as she came closer to her due date and needed a reliable way to get ahold of him immediately, should she go into labor when he wasn’t with her.)
She first went to the Jolly Roger, and then to the docks where Smee worked, and then to the library, but all to no avail. Granny’s was the most logical next stop, but when she stepped inside and perused the diner, there was no sign of him.
She was on the point of turning to leave, when Leroy stopped her. “You lookin’ for Capitaine Crochet? Check the sitting room. Odds are he’s having one of his little sewing circles with his princess friends.”
“He’s…what?” Emma asked, fairly certain that there hadn’t been a single intelligible word in what the small man just said.
Rather than answer, Leroy merely hooked his thumb toward the inn portion of Granny’s establishment. Emma decided not to even try to get any more answers out of him. Instead she followed his directions.
She heard Killian before she saw him.
“The trick is to maintain an even tension,” he said. “It was a bit of a challenge to master, but since I have, my stitches are nice and even. See?”
What?
“Oh that is better!” Ashley said. “Thanks Killian!”
The sight that met Emma’s eyes once she entered the sitting room was something she’d never thought she’d see. Killian, the fearsome Captain Hook, sat in a frilly, pink armchair surrounded by Ashley, Kathryn, Mary Margaret, Belle and Ariel. All of them appeared to be…crocheting.
He looked up when she entered the room, his face coloring with apparent embarrassment, as he tried to hide the small piece of fabric he’d been constructing behind his back.
“Swan!” he yelped. “I wasn’t expecting to see you so soon. This was supposed to be a surprise”
“What? I…I was looking for you, Killian,” she said, making her way slowly to his side, and coaxing his hand back to the front so she could see what he was working on.
It looked like…it looked like her baby blanket.
“Is this where you’ve been disappearing every morning?”
He used his hook to scratch at that spot behind his ear and glanced aside. “Well, Love, you told me to get a hobby, and I’m trying to respect your wishes.”
Emma vaguely noticed the other women filing out of the room, giving them privacy for what looked to be a private conversation between spouses. She’d appreciate the gesture, if she could get past the shame she felt at pushing him away the way she had.
“I’m sorry, Killian,” she said, taking a seat next to him, and running soft fingers against the blanket he was making. “I’m sorry I’ve been such a bitch to you. I was kind of afraid I’d pushed you away or something, that you’d decided I wasn’t worth the effort.”
He looked up quickly, the shock evident in his eyes. “I assure you, my love, that will never be the case, no matter how out of sorts you might become. Nothing could ever convince me you aren’t worth the effort. To me, you are worth everything. You and our little cygnet.”
The tears came to her eyes then, and one spilled over and trailed down her cheek. “I know that Killian. I hope you know I feel the same.”
“Of course I do,” he said, leaning in to kiss her softly. “But this project is about more than staying out of your way when you bid me to do so.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah,” he said, looking a bit uncertain. “I must admit to a bit of trepidation when it comes to our child–Oh I want her, more than anything, no fear of that–It’s just…”
“It’s just what, Killian?” she asked gently.
“What do I know about being a father?” he asked softly. “What do I know about caring for a child? What if I fail dismally? I thought, perhaps if I made her her own blanket, like the one you cherish, perhaps I could feel a bit less inadequate.”
Emma began to cry in earnest at that, as she pulled him in for a longer, more comforting kiss. When it came to an end, she stayed close, forehead against his, hand still at the nape of his neck. “Listen to me, Killian Jones. You are a wonderful father to Henry, and you’ll be an equally wonderful father to this little magic bean, no matter what you do or don’t give her. You love her, and that’s all that matters. You don’t ever have to try to prove yourself beyond that. But for the record, she’s going to love the blanket her daddy made her.”
“You really think so?” he asked, holding the half-completed item up for her perusal.
“I know so,” she said firmly, fingering the delicate material before laughing.
“What’s so amusing, love?” he asked.
“I’m just imagining telling that swaggering, innuendo laden pirate I climbed the beanstalk with that one day he’d not only settle down, but lead a crocheting circle with the local ladies.”
 Notes:
–Apologies for the shamefully long time in between updates. I got busy with other projects, and then I kind of forgot this story even existed. That combined with my muse being on strike led to an almost 8 month hiatus, such that I would be surprised if ANY of you even remember what happened in part 1.
–I just returned from a vacation with @kmomof4, @jrob63 and @snowbellewells, and it’s amazing what a little down time with fandom friends can do to get the writing juices flowing again! I will do my best to be less of a stranger in the future!

The Perfect Gift
Tumblr media
Happy Valentines Day to all! So when you’re Single AF like me what better way to spend the day than to write about CS spending Valentines Day? So here it is, Captain Swan with Captain Beauty friendship.
SUMMARY: When Killian learns about Valentine’s Day and Emma won’t go into much detail, he consults Belle who helps him plan the perfect gift for Emma. Pure Valentine’s Day Fluff. Also on A03
Set in the 6 weeks of peace, let’s say Valentine's Day was during this time.
Killian Jones liked to think he was getting the hang of this strange world. Emma had given him a talking phone to contact her when he needed to. Well he’d mastered the Emma button, and half the time she would answer. But most times he would leave a voice message.
He was also getting Belle to help him understand texting, she had described it as writing a letter that is delivered instantly and Emma can read it and reply with a letter of her own when she sees it. There were also funny little drawings when you could send in the text, Belle had said the name before but he couldn’t remember-it was a funny little name. But they had faces, happy, crying and even little heart drawings which he liked to send at the end of his letter-text-to Emma. He saw the way her face lit up when she opened one in front of him once, and he wanted that reaction every time so he continued to use them.
On the topic of hearts, Killian was seeing them all over Storybrooke lately. It was overnight almost, heart shaped teddy bears had appeared in the stores, and even Granny’s was decorated with them. Everything was decorated in pink and red, was this normal for this world? Or was there some strange love curse that had affected the town?
“What’s with all these hearts popping up around town?” He asks Emma when they’re having breakfast at Granny’s one morning.
Taking a break from her stack of pancakes, “It’s Valentine’s Day next week. It’s a stupid holiday we have in this world don’t worry about it.” Emma didn’t want to make a big deal out of it, she had never celebrated Valentine’s Day before unless she was catching a perp and she didn’t want to stress Killian out about it-he was busy figuring out how to save the fairies, Valentine’s Day wasn’t important.
But that didn’t explain the hearts. What was a celebration of hearts all about? And why was Emma so against it?
He turns to Belle, hoping she’d have the answers.
“Valentine’s Day is a holiday this world celebrates. The hearts are popping up over town because it’s a holiday about love, you ask someone you love or like, to be your Valentine. You normally get each other a card and a present maybe, or even go out for a romantic dinner.” Belle explains. Killian assumes she must not be feeling great about this holiday of love after banishing the Dark One.
“So I’m supposed to ask Emma to be my Valentine? And get her a heart shaped gift?” Killian liked the idea of this holiday. Even though those 3 special words hadn’t been spoken yet, he knew how Emma felt about him. He also wanted to show Emma how much she meant to him.
Belle chuckles as she looks through one of her books. “You don’t have to get her something heart shaped. But you could get her something special-something you know she likes or would like. Some girls receive jewellery from their boyfriends, or knowing Emma she may appreciate a Granny’s gift card!”
“Would you help me? I want to find Emma the perfect gift for this Valentine’s Day.” Killian assumed considering her past, she hasn’t celebrated the day in a while and wanted to make sure she knew she was appreciated, and loved (just without saying it, he didn’t need Emma’s walls going up when he was working hard to knock them down)
Belle smiles at her friend. “I’d love to help.”
__
And so Killian sets out to find Emma the perfect Valentine’s Day gift. He considers what Belle said about a Granny’s gift card, but that’s not special enough. No Emma deserves something better.
He finds a card straight away, it’s two Swans kissing with a heart above them, feels appropriate and will hopefully make her laugh too. He wants to see that spark in her eyes he gets to see when she’s happy. While they had only been courting, or ‘dating’ as Emma calls it, for a few months he still couldn’t believe sometimes that they’re together. He never thought he’d see her again when they were cursed, and seeing her at her door in New York was one of the most incredible feelings, even if she didn’t know who he was.
She didn’t judge him for his past, she never did, even before they were together. She understands that it wasn’t always a pirate's life, and that he experienced loss and heartbreak the same as she had. For once in his 300 years, he had someone know the pain he had gone through, he could open up about his abandonment without the other person feeling sorry for him. Emma was abandoned too, so she understood how it felt to be alone.
He looked in the Jewellery store on Main Street to see if there was something that screamed Emma. Sure there were beautiful necklaces and bracelets, but he didn’t want to get her just anything, she wasn’t just anybody: she was Emma, his Emma. She deserved the world, and that’s all he wanted to give her.
Until he comes across a locket. The locket in the store is worth more than the doubloons he carries around (which only Granny seemed to accept), but an idea struck in his head. Sure his ship was gone, but he did keep a few things before he traded it to Blackbeard. And one of those things was a small locket his mother had. It opened up to reveal a small drawing of her and his father on one side, and on the other side was Killian and Liam.
“How would I go about filling a locket?” He asks Belle that afternoon. He didn’t have many possessions coming back to Storybrooke, but he could fit a surprising amount in his leather coat, including said locket, so he finds his old jacket at the back of the closet and finds the locket in one of the pockets.
He shows Belle his mother’s locket and she takes a look at the drawings inside and smiles fondly. Like with Emma, Belle doesn’t pry into his past-she knows he was also a man before his days as a villain that had lost people. “At Granny’s tonight, I will get my camera and take photos of you all, I’ll say it’s for an album full of memories. Then I can print the photos out and cut them into small enough shapes for the locket.”
“Thank you Belle. I appreciate it. How are you feeling about this day? I know it can’t be easy considering the Dark One and all.”
“I actually won’t be alone on Valentine’s Day.” She says shyly, Killian tries to think who could have caught her eye in Storybrooke. “Will, uh Will Scarlet has asked me out, and I accepted.”
Killian smiles, Will was an annoying bastard but he was a good guy and would treat his friend right-far better than the Dark One ever did. “I’m happy for you.”
“Thank you Killian.” She smiles. “And Emma is going to love the locket.”
__
That evening the extended Charming family meet for dinner at Granny’s as they do every Friday. Henry is complaining about homework, Regina is dealing with mayor matters, and Killian and Emma are just happy. They share some rum while Emma talks about her day, how she was called to The Rabbit Hole to break up a fight between Leroy and a bartender who wouldn’t serve him anymore alcohol. Killian tells her that he and Belle are making progress on freeing the fairies-Belle was still working on a translation.
They hadn’t talked about Valentine’s Day since his original question, he wanted to surprise her, which is why he acted none the wiser when Belle walked into the diner with her camera.
“Everyone, get together. I want to make a scrapbook!” She says gesturing for everyone to pose.
She gets Snow and Charming to pose for a picture. Then Emma and Killian, then Emma Killian and Henry and a whole bunch of other combinations until she decides she’s happy.
“Do you have any idea what that’s about?” Emma asks Killian once she leaves.
“Not a clue luv.” He lies putting his arm around her, pressing a kiss to her head, hoping she doesn’t become suspicious. Weirder things have happened in this town.
__
The day before Valentine’s Day, Belle shows him the finished locket. On one side, a picture of Henry and his grandparents and the other side was a picture of himself and Emma. He hoped she would look at it and be reminded that she had so many people who loved and cared about her. They had peace for now, but who knows how long it will last before the next monster or villain comes to town.
Emma stays with Killian on the night before Valentines. Something about not wanting to walk in on her parents. So it gives him the perfect opportunity to give Emma her gift in the morning.
“Ugh What time is it?” Emma stirs in her half awake sleep. Killian had been awake for almost an hour, excited for the day, and to give Emma her gift.
“It’s almost 7 luv.” He kisses her head as she stirs, clearly wanting more sleep. “And Happy Valentine’s Day.”
Her eyes almost immediately open at the sound of those four words and groans. “What have you been told? It’s really not that big of a deal this day.”
She sits up in bed, worried to see what big romantic gesture Killian had planned.
“But Swan, I wanted to know if you would be my Valentine?” He asks with his cute pouty smile that makes Emma weak. He fixes his Hook on and then grabs a card and a rose from the drawer.
Emma groans, this is exactly what she was afraid of if she mentioned Valentine’s Day. She wasn’t good at the whole displaying emotions and expressing love, and there was also the fact she had never experienced Valentine’s Day with a boyfriend before. Being on the run with Neal, they didn’t exactly do romantic dates, especially not Valentines Day ones.
She can’t help but smile at her pirate boyfriend, taking the rose as she gets out of bed to kiss him. “Thank you. You really didn’t need to do this though.”
She opens the card and can’t help but grin at the two Swans. It makes Killians day already, just seeing her smile first thing in the morning, and the way he was able to make her smile. “That’s adorable.”
“I may have one other thing too.” He says, pulling out a white box wrapped in red ribbon from behind him.
“Killian!” She groans, he had already done too much.
“Open it.” He says handing it to her with a grin as wide as ever.
She takes the small box and unwraps the ribbon that he so clearly didn’t wrap-A hook for a hand doesn’t seem like it would wrap a bow as neatly as this one, she wonders who he got to help in his master plan. The lid to the box opens and she finds a silver locket wrapped among white tissue paper. It’s a little rusty but cleaned as best as it could be-clearly it’s not new or bought from a store here.
‘ A. Jones ’ is engraved on the back.
“Alice Jones. My mother. This was her locket.” Killian explains.
Emma opens up the locket to see the photos Belle took the other night. Well that explains what that was about, and who had helped him plan all this.
Inside the locket, her parents and Henry on one side, and her and Killian on the other. They all look happy, and in all honesty this was the first picture she had seen of herself where she looked especially happy.
“Killian. It’s beautiful, but I can’t accept this. This was your mother’s, the only thing you probably have of hers.” She thought he had spent all his doubloons that people of Storybrooke still seem to accept-but this was worse, it was something that belonged to the woman who knew him before he was a pirate.
He had never mentioned his mother, this was the first time she had heard her name. She must have been pretty important, and another death that broke Killian.
“Nonsense love. I couldn’t think of a better person my mother would want her locket to go to.” He takes it from her hands and opens the clasp, gesturing for Emma to hold her hair back as he clips it round her neck.
Emma admires the pictures, the people she loved most were in it. It was a beautiful gift. It was the first time anybody had given her something so sentimental.
“I officially win the award for the worst girlfriend ever. I didn’t want to make a huge deal out of it, and didn’t want you to feel pressured.” She tells him.
“I get it Swan. You didn’t have many people in your life before you came to Storybrooke. I don’t know much about this holiday, but Belle told me it’s about spending it with the people you care about, make them know you appreciate them.” He’s careful not to say the L word, it may be the day of love-but that doesn’t give him an excuse to say it before Emma’s ready herself.
It was though Killian was looking into her soul or something. He got her, really got her. One of the only people who understood her. “You didn’t need to get me anything really. You traded your ship to come find me-your home. You literally win boyfriend of the century with that one.”
“I didn’t do it to win points Emma. I traded the Jolly because I knew you were more important. And you don’t need to get me a present in return, you being with me is the best gift I could ask for. I never thought I would be happy after Milah was killed, but these last few months with you have been the best few months of my very long life.” He pulls her closer to him with his Hook and kisses her softly. She wraps her arms around him and enjoys the kiss.
She was falling. Hard. It would be easy to say those three little words to Killian right now. She was sure she felt it for Killian. But she had never felt like this before, even with Neal. She had told Neal ‘I love you’ countless times, but now she wonders did she truly love him? Because the feeling she gets when she’s with Killian is incredible, she never felt this way with Neal. She loves seeing the way his face lights up when she talks to him, the way his blue eyes shine when he speaks about the Sea. She loves how much he cares about Henry, and how often he takes him out sailing-he didn’t have to do any of it, but he did.
He was such an ass when they first met. It feels like a lifetime ago when she tied Captain Hook to a tree and climbed a beanstalk with him. But he changed, she saw the way he changed over time. And slowly she realised that maybe he wasn’t a bad guy, they weren’t so different. Both abandoned, both heartbroken and both mending their broken hearts together, with each other.
“How about you come over to the Apartment tonight? My parents are out and Henry is babysitting Neal at Reginas. I’m not that great a cook but I can attempt grilled cheese.” She says smiling at Killian.
“Sounds wonderful love.”
Killian was happy.
So damn happy.
After Liam and Milah were gone, all that mattered was killing Rumnplestilskin, until he met a stubborn blonde who changed his life forever. He slowly started to see that being a villain wasn’t all it used to be, and that he could be the man he once was.
When Henry brought Emma to Storybrooke and told her she was the saviour who needed to break a curse, she never expected it would be true or lead her to her happy ending. A happy ending she also didn’t realise would include Captain Hook. Fate was a funny thing. But she was finally happy, and for once was excited for her future.

Honeymoon Fades (A CS Fic)
CS oneshot that provides a snippet into their married life after 30 years together. Includes fluff, feels, and cuteness. Short, sweet, and the perfect weekend treat. Find on FF here and AO3 Here.
A/N: Hey all! This is a short drabble based on the song ‘Honeymon Fades’ by Sabrina Carpenter. This story picks up on Emma and Killian when they’re children are all grown and they’ve been together nearly 30 years. Spoiler alert – the cuteness perseveres after all their years together, and in some ways they’re like honeymooners, still as in love and happy as they were just post-wedding. Hope you enjoy the cuteness and thanks so much for reading!
The silence in this house was still a foreign thing to Emma. After so many years of raising her family, and decades of craziness that she wouldn’t trade for anything, quiet moments still felt like a real commodity. They used to be so few and far between, and every time they found them, she and Killian made use of them. They lived a life of constant motion, and they were always go-go-go, but it kept things fresh and interesting. They were never lacking for love and excitement around here, at least they never used to be.
Now, however, things were different. Take this morning for example. It was 9:00 and she was only just rolling out of bed. She was off today from the station, where she was beginning to take a number of steps back. Her brother Neal had been working with her and her Dad for years, deciding he wanted to join the family business, and he was now the newly elected town sheriff. Emma still worked at the station and ran point on many aspects of Storybrooke’s response team, but even with that, there was never enough to do. She ‘worked’ from 9-5 Monday to Friday, mostly just conferring with the townspeople on what needs they had and what the town could do for them. And then the weekends she had off, totally free, never any hiccups. Just two whole days of… well, whatever the hell she wanted.
Despite the fact that this free-weekend thing was normal (it had been about a year since she agreed to the schedule shift), she was still awed by the premise. When the kids were still home, nearly every moment that she wasn’t working was dedicated to them, to their games, and plays and homework and lives. But now their nest was empty. The kids all had their own worlds and agendas, and weekends were becoming a time when Emma and Killian could genuinely relax.
This morning was the perfect example. After waking up bright and early in her husband’s arms, and after their heated exchange of what Killian always called ‘good morning pleasantries’ (code for sex that had no right to be that hot after how long they’d been together), Emma had fallen back asleep while Killian rested only briefly before heading out to go for a sail or run some errand or another. No matter how much quiet they had, her husband was still an early riser. No amount of downtime would change that. But for Emma a lazy morning was a luxury, one that she soaked in and cherished after years of never having them.
As she showered and got dressed, Emma found herself smiling, knowing that she was a lucky woman in every possible way. She was blessed with healthy kids, a network of supportive friends and family, and a true love who was always in her corner. The sun was shining in Storybrooke, and the summer heat was already beginning to climb. She had a whole host of possible paths to wander today. She could go for a hike, or tend to the garden out back. She could drive up the coast and explore the world beyond, or she could take it easy and relax, luxuriating in this happy, stress-free moment that they currently had going. But whatever she did, Emma knew she’d have company for the ride.
Moving downstairs Emma caught the scent of bacon and coffee in the air, she closed her eyes and hummed out a sound of contentment. Spoiled – that was what she was, and as she walked into the kitchen and saw Killian flipping some blueberry pancakes she leaned against the doorway and bit her lip. Damn, nearly thirty years together, and he was still too hot to handle. Standing there, making her breakfast with that mix of salt and pepper in his hair, her pirate was still fit and ready for whatever fight might come their way. There were more laugh lines etched upon his skin, and he might move just a touch slower than he did back in the early days, but the light in his blue eyes that sparked when he caught sight of her still pierced down to her soul, and the sexy grin of his made her heart skip a beat.
“Finally, the lady wakens,” he joked and Emma shook her head and smiled as she kissed him quickly and then moved around him to pour herself a cup of coffee.
“Sounds like someone missed me.”
“You know how I feel about being away from you, Swan.” The growl in his voice sent a thrill of anticipation down her spine. Damn this man and his sexiness. Thirty years wasn’t enough to get used to him, and some days she still felt like a honeymooner as opposed to a couple long settled and established.
“You’re not a fan as I recall,” she teased and she let out a yelp when he swatted at her ass with the hard metal of his hook. She blushed in spite of herself, thinking of all the times that particular appendage had made itself known before. She could tell from his deep chuckle that he read her like a book, and she cleared her throat and changed the subject. “Any thoughts on what we should do today, Captain?”
“Whatever my wife wishes, I reckon,” he quipped as he placed their plates on the kitchen counter and he held out her chair, tucking her in like a true gentleman before taking his own seat. They discussed the possibilities as they ate, and he caught her up on some friendly neighborhood gossip that he’d heard down at the market, but when their meal was done and they moved to clear the dishes, Emma noticed a little sadness in Killian’s eyes. Immediately she knew the reason for it.
“You miss the kids, don’t you?”
“Aye, love. How could you tell?”
Emma didn’t have the heart to tell her pirate that his expression was totally transparent. Instead she came to cuddle with him, her arms encircling him as he did the same. This was her favorite spot, tucked in her with her true love. It was always her safest space and the place she felt like things would always be okay. Now though it was Killian who needed that anchor, and she was more than willing to give it to him.
“Because I miss them too,” Emma confessed, knowing it was silly. She saw all of her children nearly every day, and they were all in constant contact. Still it wasn’t the same, and time, as beautiful a gift as it was, was also all too fleeting. Years moved by so quickly, and some days it felt like she blinked and that whole chapter of their lives had flown by.
“It feels like only yesterday the whole house was filled with Hope, Liam and Leia running about, and with Henry coming home any chance he got. Remember the morning we found the little ones all in the mud out back?”
“Which time?” Emma asked, laughing even as she shook in horror.
The sight of them that day was so damn funny – covered and filthy and dripping in liquid dirt. But it had also been a logistical nightmare. They tracked the stuff everywhere, ruining the couch and a carpet, and the magic each kid was capable had created some kind of spell where all the stains were permanent. It was maddening but also so freaking funny, and of course, Killian had been a superhero, wrangling all three of them back outside to get cleaned off on the back porch. In less than a day he’d had the couch and carpet replaced, consulting Regina about the rest of the mess, all while Emma was on a shift at the station, and her cheeks flushed at the memory of the night they shared together when he got home. There were thousands of nights like that in the long arc of their marriage, but that one stuck out. She was especially grateful for everything he did for her and their family, and they’d made some truly lasting memories as a result.
“Or the Halloween they started the prank war with your siblings?”
“Oh my God,” Emma groaned remembering. Her kids at that point were so beyond toilet papering and throwing eggs. They had the benefit of understanding their true love magic to a certain degree and they’d made use of it. She and Regina had spent days unmaking the mess, and the town was still a little whacked out energy wise until after Christmas.
“How about the day Leia decided she wanted to be a vet?” Killian said, laughing straight out this time.
“She brought home six cats, four bunnies, and three dogs. I still never figured out where she found them all.”
Okay that wasn’t exactly true. Leia made a ‘wish’ that she could give all the homeless pets a home, and her magic had crafted its own attempt at a spell. As a result, all of the strays in a ten-mile radius arrived at their house, all of them charmed by her daughter, and cute even if they were most of them worse for wear.
“To be fair she was only trying to help them all. And she had a plan, didn’t she? A special room or space for every last one of them.”
“She was fourteen at that point. She knew there was no way we could keep them all, even if Hope was away at school and Liam was on his way to college soon too.”
“Perhaps, but we kept more than a few.”
Emma nodded, thinking of their two dogs and two cats. The other animals had all found homes either with her parents, Henry, or Belle. Even at the time she’d found it endearing, and look at where they were now. Leia was away at her last year of college, and she’d been accepted early to the university’s veterinary program. Even if that one day was madness, Emma knew it was the beginning of a real vocation, which she wanted each of her children to feel.
“You know what I think will help?” she asked, circling back around to how much they missed their family.
“Rum?” Killian asked, though he was kidding. He’d cut back considerably as time went on, but he loved pretending rum was still the answer to all things. Always with the jokes, this man.
“Maybe a little. I was thinking you, me, and maybe a bit of sailing?”
“You had me at you and me, love.”
Emma laughed at his attempt to blend a movie quote from long long ago into their conversation. Despite his being here for so many years, Killian still delivered anything having to do with pop culture like he was fresh from the Enchanted Forest. It made for many a funny moment, and this was no exception. The humor of it was only compounded by how quickly he sprung into action. No sooner had she spoken then idea than he was moving about, grabbing things they might need, and packing them a picnic lunch for them to enjoy hours from now when they were out on the water.  For a moment she watched him, delighting in how adamant he was to spend time with her and get to go make some brand new memories, but before he could get too carried away, she pulled him into her, clutching at his shirt and smiling at him happily.
“I love you, Killian. A little bit more each and every day.”
“For this day and all days,” he agreed, before kissing her sweetly and resting his forehead against hers. In that moment they just enjoyed this, breathing in the peace and calm they’d fought so hard for. And even when they did break apart, and were back in action once more, Emma carried her love for him always, reveling in how magical it was to truly have a happily ever after.

Post-Note: So there we have it. Just a happy little dose of future fluff today. I find that writing these kinds of stories always brings me such a warm feeling, and though I know no show can go on forever, I still wish we’d seen more glimpses into how good things would have stayed for CS for years to come. Anyway, my wish for all of you is that this will have brought you some joy today, and that this chapter finds you healthy and well. I appreciate all of you reading and messaging me and leaving comments. It truly means the world, especially because I am mired down in work and stress and worry. I’m hoping to keep posting some chapters in the meantime, but if I get a bit spottier with the frequency, I hope you all will understand. Anyway hope you have a great rest of your weekend and thanks again for joining me on this fluffy little jaunt!

Which of your fics do you wish got more attention? Which are you most proud of?
The answer to both of your questions is the same:
Savage Garden
That was one I started and stopped a few times over the course of a couple years, and I think it was the CS March Madness event last year that finally gave me the kick to finish it.
The story stemmed from a conversation with friends (mainly @thesschesthair and @fergus80) but kind of took on a life of its own when I started outlining; even I’m not entirely sure where a lot of the plot came from, but it was just one of those eureka moments where ideas flowed and connected. I leaned in HARD to flowery language (thesaurus.com was my bff), and it was super fun to write without (I hope) being too contrived. And putting the sweetness of Deckhand Hook together with the mania of Dark Hook was a real interesting dichotomy to play with.
But because I published it almost a year after the show ended, with the dwindling fandom, it didn’t get a ton of attention. Still a decent amount, and some amazing reviews, but it’s always a little frustrating when you write a cheesy fluff/smut piece and it gets triple the notes of a chapter of an MC you’ve poured your heart and soul into. I know that’s the nature of the beast, but it was a little discouraging.
That said, if any of my offline friends/family ever asked to see my writing, that’s the one I’d point them to. (With the caveat that they not read ANYTHING ELSE, haha.)
thank you for the lovely Q!

Combining a Fic A Versary and Self-Promo Sunday!!
One year ago today, I posted A Christmas Surprise, to this day probably the cutest thing I’ve ever written. And no matter how many times you’ve read it, I hope you let me know what you think!
Original prompt was from @gingerpolyglot: I’d love to see a CS fic where someone returns from deployment and surprises their family like on those YouTube videos that always bring me to tears.

Tumblr media
Under the cut, unless Tumblr ate it.
“Emma!” her co-worker and Henry’s 4th grade teacher, Elsa exclaimed, rushing to where Emma kneeled on the stage cutting out the last of the costumes she had to get made for the school Christmas program this coming Friday. Emma was cutting it close, no pun intended, but Violet’s mom had gone into preterm labor over the weekend and was put on bed rest so wasn’t going to be able to make her daughter’s costume for the pageant, hence Emma working late today to get started on it.
“What?” she replied, raising up to sit on her haunches and blowing at a strand of hair that escaped her braid.
“Killian’s gonna be home Friday,” Elsa enthused, “and you have to help us figure out a way for him to surprise Alice. You know, like on those YouTube videos.”
Emma grinned with delight. “Oh, that is a fantastic idea!” she agreed. Alice Jones was one of her second grade students. This was only Emma’s second year teaching at the tiny private school, so she’d never actually met Killian, since he and Alice lived in Boston. But when he had deployed last spring, she’d come to live with her cousins, Aunt Elsa and Uncle Liam, Killian’s brother and sister-in-law. Emma had heard lots about him from Elsa since then and was looking forward to meeting the father of one of her favorite students.
She looked around the stage at the various pieces of set and props scattered around, racking her brain for a way to surprise Alice.
“Oooo!” she exclaimed, eyes going wide, “How about this? Killian can hide in one of the presents for the last scene, since Alice is singing the solo, and at the opportune time,” she smirked slyly as a grin blossomed on Elsa’s face, “he comes out. She’s been doing so beautifully in rehearsals.” Emma placed her hand on her heart as tears threatened to fill her eyes. “Can you imagine how happy Alice is gonna be?”
Elsa’s eyes did fill with tears as she imagined her niece’s face when she saw her Papa for the first time in nine months. She and Liam were of course happy to care for Alice when Killian was gone, and their boys loved having their younger cousin live with them, but him being gone for so many months at a time wore on the little girl in a way that hurt Elsa’s heart. Friday couldn’t come soon enough.
~*~*~
The week passed quickly, more quickly than Emma would have liked actually. She loved this time of year, but the late nights of rehearsals, sewing, and taking care of numerous loose ends for the pageant, not to mention the anticipation of Alice’s surprise, had made it impossible for her to really enjoy it. She felt like a chicken with its head cut off, running in circles and getting nowhere. But Friday had finally arrived, filled with the obligatory parties all the classes held on the last day before their Christmas break.
Once school let out and all the elementary kids were ushered to the playground to burn off the excess energy and excitement the day engendered, Emma and Elsa met Killian at the front door of the school.
“Killian,” Elsa cried, launching herself into her brother-in-law’s arms. His laughter joined hers as he spun her around in a tight hug before setting her down again. Liam came around from the driver’s side of the car with a wide grin on his face, so happy to have his brother back home again.
Emma was dumbfounded. The man was gorgeous. He was tall with slightly mussed dark brown hair and wore a navy blue peacoat against the December cold. She snapped her mouth shut when she caught Elsa’s smirk.
“Killian,” she began, “this is Alice’s teacher, Emma Swan. Emma, Captain Killian Jones of the United States Navy.”
Emma blushed as Killian’s mouth dropped open for a moment before closing it again as he scratched behind his ear bashfully.
“It… it’s a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Swan,” Killian stammered, his ears turning red.
“Oh, no,” she quickly corrected him, “It’s Miss.” She held out her hand for him to shake and was surprised when, instead of shaking it, he lifted it and brushed her knuckles with his lips. She looked over at Elsa. The woman had one hand over her heart and the other partially covering her mouth as she watched Killian with a look of hopeful wonderment that Emma was gonna have to ask her about later.
“Miss Swan,” he echoed, with a soft smile.
“But you can call me Emma,” she offered with a smile that matched his. His blue eyes sparkled in the afternoon sun and Emma had to catch her breath.
“I think I’ve told you about Henry, Killian,” Elsa interjected, breaking the moment between them. They both turned toward her, slightly startled. Emma had nearly forgotten they weren’t alone.
“Ah, yes,” Killian agreed. “The boy that wants to be a writer?”
Elsa nodded and Emma could feel her cheeks heating up. “Henry is Emma’s son.”
Killian grinned as he looked back at Emma. “Elsa has told me so much about him. The stories he writes for his assignments are so imaginative. And she also tells me about how good he is with my Alice.”
Emma blushed harder. “He has a protective streak a mile wide. Always looking for kids who need a friend. We’re relatively new here too, so when Alice enrolled last spring, he wanted to make sure she felt welcome.”
“I appreciate it so much,” he replied. “Alice tends to be shy and for an older child to take her under his wing like that and be her friend when she didn’t know anyone at the school besides her aunt and cousins,” he put his hand over his heart, “it really means a lot.”
“But we need to get you inside before the kids come back in.” Elsa looped her arm through Killian’s and with a smile at her husband, led them all inside the building. Since the school was so small, only one classroom for each grade, the cafeteria also served as their auditorium. So they had to get Killian hidden in one of the large presents that would serve as part of the set before the kids came inside for their catered dinner before they got into costume for the program.
Emma explained her idea to Killian as Elsa led the way up onto the stage. There on the edge was a six foot square box wrapped with white paper with huge silver snowflakes on it. A huge, sparkly red bow graced the front. The side came off so Killian could easily get in and out of it to surprise Alice when she finished her solo as the finale of the program this evening.
“I’ll bring you a plate so you won’t starve waiting for things to get started,” Emma promised him as she opened the box.
With a final smile at her, Elsa, and Liam, Killian moved into place and Emma shut him in.
~*~*~
Emma sat down next to Elsa and Liam with her own meal after surreptitiously delivering the same to Killian. The noise level in the auditorium was only a moderate roar, which given the excitement surrounding Christmas break and the program that evening was a blessing Emma wouldn’t take for granted. Once she was seated, she took a deep breath and tried to bring her heart rate down to normal. Seeing the breathtakingly handsome man again had sent her pulse fluttering and spread heat across her cheeks that she hoped her friend and her husband wouldn’t notice. That hope was futile apparently, as her eyes met Elsa’s smug smirk.
“You get Killian his dinner?” she asked.
“Yes,” she replied, her cheeks warming up even more than they already were.
She cut her gaze away from Elsa only to be met with Liam’s laughing blue eyes. They were so filled with joyful affection that Emma couldn’t help but smile widely back at him.
“Good,” he said. “I’m so glad he’s home. This was his last deployment, supposedly. He’s eligible to retire in May and I hope he does and moves here. I mean, Boston isn’t terribly far, but it’d be so nice to have him here all the time. The boys and Alice can grow up together, Alice can stay here at the school, and maybe,” here Liam waggled his eyebrows at her suggestively making her cheeks flame again, “Killian can find that happiness he’s been missing since Milah passed.”
“Milah was Alice’s mother?” Emma asked.
“Yes,” Elsa answered. “She was killed in a car accident when Alice was just a baby. Killian hasn’t looked twice at a woman since. Always said he had enough on his plate with his career and raising Alice alone. So when he kissed your hand earlier, I couldn’t help but hope…”
Emma nodded her understanding. “Well, I can’t say I’d be reluctant,” she admitted, biting her lower lip and cutting her eyes away from their perceptive gazes.
Elsa took her hand and a genuine smile broke over her lips.
“Good.”
~*~*~
The program was wonderful. Each class performed a short holiday skit for the audience filled with parents, grandparents, and friends. The upper grades combined to perform the Christmas story as recorded in the Bible. Finally the last scene of the pageant arrived. All the other pieces of scenery and props were moved off the stage and the giant Christmas tree that stood at the back of the stage was pushed forward, until there was hardly any room for the combined choirs to stand in front of it. Once all the kids were in place, the audience joined them in a rousing sing-along of favorite Christmas songs and carols.
When the sing-along was over, Alice Jones looked over at her teacher with anxious eyes. Her heart hammered in her chest until Miss Swan gave her a gentle and encouraging smile and nodded her head toward the microphone in the middle of the stage. Taking a deep breath, Alice stepped down off the risers and approached the microphone.
She looked out at the darkened auditorium and remembered what Miss Swan had told her. Everyone out there was rooting for her, even if she couldn’t see them, and since she couldn’t see them, it would be easy to pretend they weren’t there and simply sing. Sing for her, and sing for her Papa.
The opening bars of I’ll Be Home for Christmas floated out of the darkness and Alice began to sing.
I’ll be home for Christmas.
You can count on me.
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents by the tree.
Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light gleams.
I’ll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams.
Alice stopped for the bridge and looked to the edge of the stage where her Aunt Elsa stood with a proud smile on her face. Alice smiled then turned back to the audience to sing the second verse.
I’ll be home for Christmas.
You can count on me.
Suddenly a wave of emotion came over Alice and she let out a little hiccupping sob as thoughts of her Papa filled her mind. Her eyes filled with tears as she sang the last line of the stanza.
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents by the tree.
She let out a louder sob as her tears started to fall and turned to Miss Swan. She was so afraid she was gonna be in trouble for crying in the middle of her song, but she missed her Papa so much and there was nothing she wanted more than for him to come home for Christmas. Miss Swan was hurrying across the stage to her when a strong baritone picked up the song where she left off.
Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light gleams.
Alice turned confused eyes to her teacher and then to her aunt, both of whose own eyes were filled with tears. Miss Swan pointed to the other side of the stage with a watery smile, drawing Alice’s attention to the huge present that was part of the scenery on the very edge of the stage.
There, in front of the present, stood her Papa! Alice’s jaw dropped and she could hear Miss Swan let out a giggle.
“Papa,” she hollered, pulling herself free from Miss Swan’s embrace and running toward him. He was laughing when she reached him and leapt into his waiting arms. He spun her around in a circle, holding her close and calling her starfish, before peppering her face with kisses- the loud smacking kind that made her giggle and would usually prompt her to wiggle away from him. But not this time. This time, her Papa was home and he could kiss her as much as he wanted.
Emma watched the reunion between father and daughter and could no longer hold her tears at bay. The lights had come up in the auditorium when it became apparent that the song would not be continued and when she looked out at the audience, she didn’t see a dry eye in the house. The school was so small and with Elsa being one of the teachers, everyone knew Alice and her circumstances so they were just as thrilled as Emma at bearing witness to their reunion.
After giving them a few moments, Emma and Elsa turned to their boys on the risers and motioned them all down before they approached Killian and Alice. Killian put Alice back down on the stage before gathering his twin nephews, Liam Jr. and Colin, in his arms for another enthusiastic greeting. Alice turned and spotting Henry, a huge grin split her face as she reached her hand out and pulled him over to meet her Papa. Emma’s heart melted as Killian held his hand out to shake Henry’s and expressed the same sentiments to him that he had shared with her earlier. Henry blushed at the praise and attention before mumbling it was his pleasure.
Then it was Killian’s turn to blush as he scratched behind his ear and approached Emma, Alice’s arms wrapped around his waist.
“Thank you so much for this, Emma.” He looked down at his daughter and Emma’s heart wanted to burst at the love and happiness she saw in his gaze. “I truly can’t tell you what it means to me.”
“I was happy to do it, Killian,” she replied.
His head dipped and his cheeks heated as he scratched behind his ear. “Could I… uh, would you mind if…” he stammered before he finally looked back up at her. “Would you like to get a cup of coffee sometime?” Emma looked down at Henry before accepting, trying to ascertain his feelings about the offer. She found his face filled with surprise and excitement, with no indication of hesitancy in his countenance. “It’s the start of Christmas break, is it not?” Killian asked as she looked back up at him.
“It is,” she affirmed with a wide smile. “And I’d love to have coffee with you, Killian.”
Emma glanced around at the smiles on the faces of Killian, Alice, Henry, Liam Jr, Colin, Elsa, and Liam. She had a feeling that this Christmas surprise was only the beginning of wonderful things to come.
The End... For now...

Yes, that’s right! Last year when I posted this, I got several requests for more in this universe, but I had nothing in mind but a very loose outline of the progression of Emma and Killian’s relationship. Well, a few weeks ago, on our way to vacay after Thanksgiving, the muse spoke up with something a little more specific, and when I ran the idea by @jrob64, she told me I had to write it. There wasn’t time to get it written for this year, but I really like the idea and I am planning on writing it for next year! I already have notes on the doc! Don’t worry, I’ll repost this one to refresh everyone’s memories before posting the next chapter.
Thank you all so much for your love of this fic! I’d love to hear what you thought!
