Crystalline Subdued
Glowing garnet in the glass here at 7, a rather beautiful example of the variety showing both things we all look for. On one hand the spicy, burnt, south France nuances shine but it’s all relegated into a rather BDX-like package: granting elegance and clean beauty. Transparent ruby with wide amber edges, the nose all polished sweet beauty tip-toeing on tertiary. Herbaceous-tinged fruit with…

Ark Survival Evolved No Engrams Run, part 5
Days 9-10
Welcomed dawn with a no-monke-owned anxiety. Found one mega trashy, tamed it, and of course that's when more spawned around. All trash, still monke. Mated first female with a male, went for a supply crate, then a berry run for a future kid, and returned home to find sad remains of triplets. Tamed a second female, she and male have pretty colors, can't wait to move base and breed them.
Zyzio barely reached adulthood, took him for a murderous spin in the neighbourhood to prepare him for scorpy run. He runs almost as quick as my sprint, has fantastic stam, and leveled him HP and good chomp. Grabbed first monke, Izyda (Isis, might as keep naming them after gods), two stacks of rotting meat and went north.
All was peaceful before I reached Taming Eldorado, aka Jaws Outcrop. Suckers fought like drunkards for a last vodka. No scorpies. Killed everything in sight, picked some crystal for future use, and made rounds. Just before evening turned into nigth found and managed to tame (with difficulties of a noob) The Lowest Level(TM) scorpie female. Named her Trash. Figured it's a start and got her some kills to boost health. Spent the night on a verge of Jaw's beach, far from any more dangerous spawns. Slept on Zyzio, just in case.
Morning saw me knocking out a slightly better scorpie female. Barely better, so named Trash+. Pulmonos finally started spawning in numbers, found the highests and led to my camp. Killed better one by accident when they accosted anky, but couldn't tame two at the same time anyway, and a male survived. Success. Got ambushed in camp by an average minus female, and a sarco visited at the same time. Zyzio took care of it easily while scorpies had a 2v1. Trash fainted just before I could join. Did some questionable maneuvers before the newcomer got knocked out. After that tried to pull a better female, but it got perma-fixated on an argy, and the rest was trash.
Had enough, went back and took the overgrown shrimps with me. Went for a green drop on sands of the south-faced bay, spotted a sarco. Made a drive-by to see level. Highest level female. Escaped and left her alone for now, hope to find later when I have a good bred and tried pulmono.
For some reason, while tamed female is significantly lower level than male, she's almost as good in stam, and has better melee. Odd.
Left scorpies well-fed on an islet west of bay, my favourite base spot. It's far from everything, but it's flat, has bushes, trees, stone, water, there's an oil rock just off the coast, and the worst spawns are raptor and jellyfish. I'd rather head out for an adventure than find it knocking at my door and destroying the place, thank you very much.
With last light and on last legs reached the base. Despite my fears, all dinos are alive and still have some food. Did a quick stock, and I have so much chitin it's not funny anymore. I'd love to repair my chitin chestpiece, but need both smithy and forge for it, and sucks to be me when I can't even grind all this stuff into cementing paste, for of course it has no blueprint anymore. Seriously, I could've more than afforded to trade for the effin' maewing now.
Good loot-wise, I got lots of bows and arrows, a whooping ten tranq arrows, great deer saddle (I want try one for spelunking) and blueprints for a sickle and ghillie boots.
I'm moving base in the morning; will probably need to cull moschopses, but diplos are more than enough to carry my baggage and still zoom around.
There's trash bronto female near red obelisk; first thing after I get my dinos to new base, I'm knocking her out, and by the time I'll get a cooking pot I should have kibble for the sarco.

What You Leave Behind: “Atlantis: The Lost Empire”
Tumblr media
[This post brought to you with major spoilers for Disney’s 2001 animated film “Atlantis: The Lost Empire,” along with some history and math.]
For many, there’s a sense of magic around Disney films. Whether it’s romantic happily ever afters, selfless anthropomorphic animals, or arcade characters run amuck, most films in the Disney Animated canon achieve some sort of joyous acceptance, even if just in the memories of its viewers. However, as with any perceived rule, even the charm of Disney has its exceptions, and a few films in particular have drawn the short straw when it comes to that fan nostalgia.
Wedged in-between the Disney Renaissance Era’s last film “Tarzan” in 1999, and “The Princess and the Frog” in 2009 (in 2008, “Bolt”  would would be the transition film leading to our current era, known as the Disney Revival), eleven “Second Dark Age” or “Experimental Era” films were released with on-average lower levels of financial and critical success immediately following the turn of the 21st Century. On Box Office Mojo’s ranking of total gross for every Disney-parented studio film, “Lilo and Stitch” (2002) ranks the highest of this era’s films at #80, and “Treasure Planet” (also 2002) comes in the lowest at #317 (and is also the only of these films to gross less than its total budget). However, while it may rank in the top 100 for Disney overall, the same site reports that “Lilo and Stitch” earned $167,061,223 less in theaters than Disney’s hardest hitter in the traditional animation category, “The Lion King” which came out 8 years before.
The films produced in this "Second Dark Age” were both transitional and non-traditional for the company, shying away from the Renaissance films’ proclivity for musical numbers, leaning more heavily into computer animation, and exploring new genres of film to pay homage to, including science fiction, buddy comedy and Western. Whether the decade-long dip in popularity was due more to wobbly-leggedness that came with the experimental productions, a greater saturation of competition for animated films in the market, a defiance of the audience’s expectations or a combination of any or all of the above, there seem to be an Internet-full of possibilities. (I recommend researching them yourself, if you’re interested.) The overall consensus is that the majority of Disney films released between 1999 and 2009 are generally less beloved than their Renaissance or Revival counterparts.
While I didn’t realize it at the time, I came to prime movie-watching age in this era. Where I learned language, colors, numbers and animals to the tunes of the Renaissance Era songs, I developed artistic fascination, a sense of humor, and interest in what it takes to actually tell a story alongside the adventures of this Disney dead zone (and, to be entirely fair, some of DreamWorks Animation’s competitive offerings of the same period: “Road to Eldorado” [which apparently also was not considered a commercial success] and “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron” [which seems to have done alright]). I spent many summer breaks popping those DVDs in to play one after another, memorizing the exposition of “Treasure Planet,” singing along to Rob Thomas’s closing number in “Meet the Robinsons.” They still make regular appearances on rough, rainy adulthood nights.
While the “Second Dark Age” films may not have left much of an imprint on the popular consciousness as a whole, they certainly left their mark on me, and one in particular has legacy buried deeply in its DNA.
“Atlantis: The Lost Empire” -- released in 2001-- centers around a 1914 expedition to find the titular lost city, a technologically advanced island civilization lost to the sea centuries before. Funded by an off-beat millionaire (John Mahoney), and guided by the inherited knowledge of linguist and cartographer Milo Thatch (Michael J. Fox), a team of mercenaries and specialists discover that the lost city is not only still intact below the Earth’s crust, but still inhabited by its long-lived citizens under King Kashekim Nedakh (Leonard Nimoy) and his daughter, Princess Kidagakash Nedakh (Cree Summer). When the mercenaries betray the party, kill the king and kidnap the princess, who has melded with the city’s power- and life-source, the expedition specialists are roused to action to protect the city they had once considered an artifact.
From the beginning, the viewer sees Milo as a man driven by legacy: Between the research of his explorer grandfather, who raised him with stories of Atlantis, and the writings of The Shepherd’s Journal, which serves as a guide to the city, his whole life is dedicated to the pursuit of both personal and ancient history. He both seeks to fill his grandfather’s shoes as a scholar and provide the scientific world with proof that Atlantis isn’t just a fairytale, but a real civilization that once flourished. At the beginning of the film he (like some, but not all adventure archaeologists before him) seeks to return proof of Atlantis to the surface to solidify a legacy for both himself and his grandfather, but abandons this soon upon realizing that the city is still inhabited, opting instead to preserve the legacy of Atlantis’s culture by helping to rebuild after the events of the film.
“Sometimes I get a little carried away. But, hey, you know, that's what this is all about, right? I mean, discovery, teamwork, adventure. Unless, maybe, you're just in it for the money.”
Up to the point that the mercenaries forcibly take Kida, Milo’s attitude is placed in some contrast with that of the other specialists on the crew, who admit flat-out that they joined the expedition to make money, though these perspectives are not without nuance. Soon, the crewmembers open up to Milo about the legacies they carry as well: "Vinny" Santorini's (Don Novello)’s family flower shop, Dr. Joshua Sweet (Phil Morris) following in his father’s footsteps as a physician and maintaining a connection with his mother’s Arapaho culture, Audrey Ramirez (Jacqueline Obradors) taking over her retired father’s machine shop. Later in the film, Milo references back to this conversation, implying that a few had plans to continue their family businesses - investment in their own legacies - with the money they would have received upon returning to the surface.
“You're wiping out an entire civilization, but, hey, you'll be rich. Congratulations, Audrey. Guess you and your dad'll be able to open that second garage after all. And, Vinny, you-you can start a whole chain of flower shops. I'm sure your family's gonna be very proud. But that's what it's all about, right? Money.”
When the crew decides to fight for the Atlanteans and forfeit their payment, they place themselves in direct opposition to the true antagonists of the film, Commander Lyle Rourke (James Garner) and Lieutenant Helga Sinclair (Claudia Christian), who describe themselves as “adventure capitalists,” interested in getting rich at any cost. If they have any legacy that they’re trying to protect, it’s never mentioned in the movie, and the lack of regard they display for the Atlantean legacy set them apart from the rest of the characters in a significant way.
In addition to our explorers’ legacies, the Atlantean characters -- especially Kida. In her 2018 SYFY FANGRRLS article “All Hail Kida Of Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Disney’s Forgotten Queen Of Color,” writer and podcaster Afiya Augustine not only describes Kida’s legacy as Disney’s first animated queen of color, but also succinctly describes the history she carries with her, both as a preserver of her people and the heir to historically royal responsibilities, like bonding to the city’s main source of power.
“Turns out, the crystal must bond with a royal host — and Kida, much like her mother, was chosen by the crystal in order to unleash its immense power to protect its world. That’s right — Kida is not only a protector by choice, but she’s been chosen to be such by blood. Like their precious stone, Kida powered the survival of her people.”
Which means that, by the end of the film, Kida is charged with not only restoring her civilization to its former glory, but also carrying the legacy of both her parents, now deceased. It’s a heavy load for a strong character, and one that Kida handles with gravity throughout the film.
And that’s just the character design.
In addition to being the first Disney film to feature a queen of color (rather than the “princess” title that had been utilized in previous films), “Atlantis: The Lost Empire” was also Disney’s first animated science fiction film, launching a jaunt into the genre that would include a other “Experimental Era” films like “Lilo and Stitch” and “Treasure Planet,” leaving its own (generally unacknowledged) mark on the canon itself. It, like many adventurer archaeologist stories before it, pays homage to many a story of lost world before it, from Jules Verne’s depictions in the mid-1800s on through the pulp adventure novels and into the territory of one Indiana Jones. Its art style, with its blocky shadows and angular motifs, pays serious homage to production designer and comic book artist Mike Mignola, an item of his legacy in turn.
“Atlantis” may not be a popular Disney film. It may never have gotten its true sequel or its spin-off television show. Your average casual Disney fan in 2019 might not would have known it existed if it weren’t on Netflix (for now, anyway). But this is not to say that the film didn’t leave its mark, both on the people who did see it and enjoyed it and still enjoy it almost 20 years later, and on the canon in which I truly believe it has rightfully earned its place.

Check out our latest release. The Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade jacket. Look for the "Holy Grail Jacket". It can be found in the New Items on our website, together with the also newly released Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crustall Skull jacket "El Dorado jacket".
“EL DORADO JACKET” #MYBKJACKET This is the jacket worn by our heroic professor in his quest to find the city of gold in the 4th of his adventures. With this jacket on his back survive atomic explosions, commies, dry sand pits, collapsing temples, until he discovered, in South America, a crystal skull with mysterious powers only to be chased by hordes of savages wanting to take his skull. We made this jacket with pre-distressed cowhide of the same kind as in the film. The pattern we used is the correct as made by the late Tony Nowak who offered his jacketss for the film. El Dorado
well this is what I've been working on a few days and it’s finally finished!!! How you enjoy reading it
a oneshot inspired by Exo K’s El Dorado
Word count: 1687 words
(btw is not a fanfiction sorry if that’s what you wanted)
‘’I’m leaving right now,
The bigger adventure,
The danger that follows…’’
I came from a small town in the core of the Amazon rainforest. Me and my family didn’t have or own much so we just got by, making our money by housing desperate bio-scientists, adventurers and anyone who enjoyed studying these areas. When I was younger, I was always so interested in what our visitors would say while I was bringing food and water to them. They told me things about the outside world I never knew of. They showed me famous writings and texts that I have never heard of. My eyes were first opened to the wonders of the outside. I used to spend most of my childhood years with one regular customer. I never caught his name though because he was always referred to, by my mother, as Mr. L. It intrigued me of how he could go into long tangents about some kind of promised land he called ‘Eldorado’. The supposed ‘Eldorado’, as he described it, was a land full of rivers of gold, skies of crystal blue, temples filled with riches; that kind of thing. My mother classified his ramblings as mad when she found out about my infatuation with this ‘fake promise land’. But that didn’t stop me learning about all I could find. Heck I knew so much I could have passed an exam about it. As my obsession for knowledge grew, I needed more than just words in books. I needed to experience the real thing. So here I find myself sitting in a poorly made tent, even deeper in the rainforest, regretting my life choices. Great…
‘’Into the light that spreads out before us,
Towards the future that no one knows of,
This walk will be a legend in the days to come.’’
Day one of this so called ‘quest’ was chaos. In my haste of my mother not seeing me, I forgot many things that would have made my journey easier. I saw no point in any way to bring anything electronic as I doubt there will be anywhere with a signal for miles off. In my decent sized rucksack, I had only packed things I would need for a month or two if I used them sparsely. Essentials like: match-sticks (of course), a cheaply made tent, basic toiletries, a tiny black watch, plain food and maps and books that could help somewhere along my journey. According to the maps, it looks like I am in the first part of the trial. I didn’t know I was getting myself into some Indiana Jones movie. The first puzzle was hidden in depths of lush leaves, so it took me half of the day to, you know, actually start the challenge. Dusk was swiftly approaching across the Amazon and from what I’ve read about this ‘quest’ and my knowledge of the rainforest in general, this wasn’t a good thing. In a panic, I rushed around trying to fix all the pieces of the trial in the right places before the sun is replaced by the moon. Trying to put the last few pieces in was hell, I couldn’t do it even after multiple attempts; my patience was on its last leg until I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was Mr. L…
‘’Even if we’re walking in storms, on some days if we’re together,
I won’t be afraid,
Let’s look for paradise…’’
After that moment, a budding friendship bloomed between us. We shared all our achievements all our highs and all our deepest lows. Instead of facing this journey alone I now had someone to keep me company (and make sure I don’t go insane). It was nicer than going solo although he did get on my nerves, like most friends do. Trials were made easier, gathering food -which I was terrified of- was made efficient and surviving was easy overall when you had an extra pair of responsible eyes watching. Without Mr. L by my side, I might as well have died, that’s how close we were. However, one unfortunate day my worst nightmare was about to turn into reality.
It was a regular morning, I awoke just after the rise of the sun getting ready to get out of my tent and find more clues for the quest but then, while hopping out of the tent, I was not greeted to the sound of heavy snoring coming out of the opposite tent. The green crickets greeted me instead. Well maybe Mr. L went to fetch water for us to filter. Or maybe he was hunting. But I normally do those jobs and I thought we had a set job rota. For a while, I tried not to worry much as I was 99.9% sure he would arrive before sunset, like he always does. Minutes passed and they turned into many hours. Then I allowed myself to go into complete panic mode. My brain was contemplating if I should go and look for him or wait a bit more and he’ll return. It was getting late and by looking at the lunar cycles, no full moon tonight so it will make sense to find him before the glossy orange sunsets. Trudging through the leaves and mud of the forest-floor that I had become so accustom to, I tried my best to spot any shape that somewhat resembled an old man; in the darkening forest. All the while getting my hopes up and for them to crash swiftly to the ground. Around a bend I saw what looked like a snapped twig, so I initially paid no notice until I heard some kind of groaning sound coming from that area. I knew those sounds could only belong to one person. The only person in my life right now – Mr. L… It felt like I ran faster than the speed of light when I saw his limp body on the ground like a fallen soldier. Crouching next to him I searched franticly for any signs of blood or injury while simultaneously checking his pulse and trying to raise its rate, but all was in vain. His pulse rate fell flat, and his heart stopped beating. It felt like mine stopped beating too.
‘’Though we don’t know the end,
Though we can’t go back,
I won’t stay frozen in the same spot,
Even if the high waves of sand come crashing down,
The destiny I shall meet is El dorado…’’
Empty… Was the best way to describe how I felt. Vacant… was the best why to describe my soul. Worthless… was the best way to describe my life. Distraught, I spent the first days after his death mourning and grieving to my heart’s content. After all, my rock the only one I could rely on, life was stolen, by at first what I thought was me. I blamed myself for his death. I blamed myself for not waking up earlier. I blamed myself of not being there for him when he needed me the most. What kind of friend dose that? An awful one. How was I going to explain this to his family (if I ever found them)? So many questions flooded my mind, that I couldn’t think straight. At some point I even thought about giving up. Without him, the main reason I came here in the first place, this quest felt worthless. I was about to pack up all my camping equipment ready to head home in shame. Remembering my mother, a memory occurred about one of her sayings or quotes. The one I was thinking about in particular was, ‘’ No pain. No gain. This is a world of misery. The world judges you it ridicules you. It pushes you to the ground and presses your face in the mud. It can be as vicious as a snake bite. As callous as a criminal. As tough as titanium. Only if you let it to. My child you see you need to be strong. If the world pulls you, you push 10 times harder. If the world chucks you down, get back up as soon as you’ve fallen. If you think the world’s unfair, show it what justice looks like. Once you defeat the world’s taunting, the feeling of accomplishment is the best feeling in the world.’’
It all came rushing to me at once. I felt overwhelmed. I’ve come this far and put in all this hard work it will be a waste to the world and a delight to my enemies if I give up. Most of all, a failure is not what Mr. L would have wanted. At least for him, I needed to make one last push, show this world all I have got before going out with a bang. Time to find the precious El dorado.
One more push. One more trial. One more dash. The last trial was the easiest (of course) it was a race to the ‘promised land’ and to anyone, already deemed worthy through all the trials, who doesn’t make it will have to restart the whole test again. So, the pressure was on full throttle. Avoiding obstacles, jumping, sprinting, quick problem solving it included it all. Close to the ending, I slipped on the track my tired body collapsing on the dirt. To anyone else it would have looked like the end of my story, but I faced the music and danced. I got up as soon as I got down even though I had a slight injury I pushed myself even harder. At the last moment, I finished the trial. The feeling of accomplishment was so amazing, breath-taking that I can not express it in words. Is this what my mother was talking about? But what was in front of me was even better. A land full of rivers of gold, skies of crystal blue, temples filled with riches just like he had described it. It was so much more magnificent than what it looked like in my wildest dreams. Welcome to paradise …
‘’I will prove… that those who believed… in me were… right.’’
thank you if you made it to the end. I really appreciate it :)
if anyone has any sort of constructive criticism please feel free to send me it.
make sure to stay fresh!!
