this. this is terrifying. i do not want 10:00 pm to hit. it hasn't really hit me that he's leaving tonight. it doesn't feel real, and i know i'm going to cry, but lets be honest about something here: i am going to be mad if they do anything other than kill jay off. if he takes the blame for something hailey did, or something voight did, i am going to be pissed off. it's going to make it worse. i would rather him die than have JAY HALSTEAD take the blame for VOIGHT, which would just contribute to jay's recently very shitty character writing.
i'll be mad, i will be, so i hope/would rather them just kill him off than make him leave chicago, because the jay halstead all of us have known for 10 seasons would never leave chicago. if he's made to leave for the job, he'd probably quit than leave chicago. he has his wife, his brother, and his whole life in chicago, and what, we think he's gonna give it up? no. if he doesn't die, i'll be mad. if he does die, i'll be sad.
and i'd rather be sad than mad.

I want to know more about Hailey Upton’s family.
Like- what are her brother’s names, what are they like- what are they doing with their lives now. Has Jay met them? Do they even know about Jay’s existence? What is her mom’s name? Is Hailey anything like her mom?
We’ve met members of everybody else’s family- Kim’s sister and now her daughter Makayla, Adam’s Dad Disco Bob, Vinessa and Jordan Atwater, Pat Halstead and Will Halstead-- even Voight (who’s blood and biological family isn’t necessarily still alive) we know more in-depth about what happened to Camille and we know he lost his son. Shoot, we even knew about Erin Lindsay’s mom.
But Hailey is just this big question mark where we know what kind of household she grew up in, that she has two brothers, and that’s about it. I want to know more.

Still doing my Chicago PD rewatch. I’m finally on season 10… and it still kills me to see how they RUINED Jay’s storyline. Watching him turn into a version of Voight and witnessing his policing style and even personality do a whole 360, tears my heart to pieces. Even Hailey witnessed it and was like WTF!?!? This was not the man she married and fell in love with… it’s like he starts avoiding her or just completely disconnects from her. Always with Voight.
The whole plot of CPD was Jay completely disagreeing with Voight and his policing style, then after everything happens with Hailey, Roy, and Voight, he wants to protect the woman he loves but also ends up shifting everything about him entirely.
His last episode hurts not only my heart but my soul too… he ends up going in and doing an unlawful search that he never would have done prior to all this shit, gets attacked by one of the criminals and ends up killing him. Of course, Voight covers it up and Hailey helps (because she loves him). It kills me that this is what it took to make him realize he couldn’t do this shit anymore… and he resigns then decides to go back to the Army to “fix himself” and get back to some sort of order to get back to black and white and avoid the gray areas. Him and Hailey’s goodbye is GUT WRENCHING 😭 I’m practically sobbing all over again.
AND THEN… when he decides to leave Hailey in Chicago to return to working with the Army, they make him into an asshole who won’t even talk to his wife. Leading to her sending him divorce papers. I mean… what the actual fuck?
I understand Jesse wanting to leave the show to go and do new things, but his character arc deserved/deserves so much better! Upstead deserved/deserves better!
Does anyone agree? Give me your thoughts. 💭

Low Days
I’ve changed my format and things around cause I like it better that way :D
I think I’ll keep this font for different One Shots like this and keep the normal one for Halstead sister one shots.
I think I’ll be able to finish the day I start it as well. And sorry if there’s horrible grammar I wrote this on my phone😭
Word count:
Summary: Your Matt’s sister and There’s a hostage situation in the hosue
Warnings: Guns, Hostage situation, mentions of Hospitals, Mentions of death, seizures  Small Cursing ~and I think that’s all~
—————-———————————————————
Ever since you were young your older brother Matt has looked after you, along with the rest of the people at 51.
You never really minded staying at the house most of the day. Whenever you weren’t at school you were there and whenever you got off of school you were there.
Everyone spoiled you most of the time. Violet, Stella and Sylvie made sure to spend some girl time with you. Either going out for milkshakes or just talking about drama in or school or boys .And the others spent some time with you and they all were special to you in their own way.
Whenever the truck was gone Kelly, Herman or boden would watch you. If everyone had to go then they would take you with them and you would wait in the engine.
“Y/n have you done your homework?”  Your brother said. “Yeah I emailed my teacher that I finished it.” You were gone for about a week due to being sick. It was late October and of course it’s flu season so you were bound to get it.
Just then Matt’s phone went off. “Hey y/n go get something to eat or drink your sugar is low” your brother said as his phone lit up with a notification. Yeah you had type 1 diabetes, you got diagnosed at 10 after your sugar had dropped dramatically while everyone was on call and they had found you in the truck practically life less.
“Alright I’ll be right back-“ About 10 guys barged into the station holding guns screaming at everyone who was in their sight.
“EVERYBODY DOWN ON THE GROUND NOW. GET RID PF EVERYTHING, PHONES, WATCHES,ANYTHING YOU HAVE IN YOUR POCKETS” one of guys he looked like the leader.
Matt dragged you to the ground and pushed you towards everyone else who was in the main area where the trucks were ~idk what it’s called~
“Hey you put give me your phone now.” One of the guys spat at you. You shook your head in fear. Before he could lunge at you Kelly got in front of you. “She has diabetes she needs her phone.” Kelly spoke. “Diabetes are the least of her worries now. Hand it over.” Kelly and Matt gave you a look. You slid your phone across the floor. Matt read your face and could see that you were worried. “I promise I’ll your glucose meter” Matt reassured you.
***
4 hours, you add the crew have been held hostage for 4 hours now.  CPD has been trying to talk to the leader of this and he was finally arrested . The last number your blood sugar had been at was. 58 and you could tell it was dropping.
“Y/n I need you to stay awake for a little bit longer, okay?” Matt cooed. “Just a small nap” you leaned onto Kelly’s shoulder sleep pulling you in.
Sylvie had ran to your to your drawer that was in the office that contained all of your stuff and grabbed your glucagon and ran back to you.
“What’s her number?” Sylvie asked while opening the bright Red box. Kelly read your phone screen. “29 and it’s dropping.”
“Hey Y/n, I’m gonna test you alright?” Sylvie says. Before she could even test you, you started pulling away.
“She’s having a seizure, roll her on her side, Stella go get nasal spray from the cabinet inside the rig” Sylvie spoke fast and Stella nodded and ran quickly.
“You’re okay Y/n, you’re okay” Matt said.
“Does she need to go the hospital?” Jay walked over to everyone. “No, not unless her blood sugar goes down to where I can’t control it.  Stella returned with the nasal spray and Sylvie sprayed it into your nose.
As you stopped seizing, Matt immediately went by your side “see you’re all good now, we’re gonna make you feel better, then we can go wherever you like you just have to stay with me” Matt said as he rubbed your back.
“Truck 81, Ambo 16. Reports of child stuck on roof”
“Go, I’ll watch after her with them” Jay was like your brother, whenever you couldn’t make it to the station after school because it was snowing or too cold, you would be at the district and hang out with everyone there. Jay would make sure he would give you food, get your homework done, and would make sure your sugar didn’t get to low or high”
Matt have instructions right beofre he wa about to leave “If her sugar drops to 50 or below again after giving her the Glucagon take her-“ “to the hospital and she has another seizure take her to the hospital and keep her in her side. I know the drill man, I got her” Jay had been through this about Three or two times. “Thanks Jay”
***
Your eyes flutter open but you shut them again because of the bright lights overhead.  You soon adjusted to the light and realized you were on the couch in the break room. You looked around and saw Herman, Kelly and Jay talking together. What the hell happened?
“What the hell happened, where is everyone” You muttered. The three men immediately turned to you
“First of all language, second, your blood sugar dropped while we were in the whole hostage situation and you had a seizure” Kelly spoke
“What was it at?” You cried “29 was last I knew of” Jay picked his phone to see what your number were at now. “Atleast I got a new record” you dorsally celebrate. “I can see your humor hasn’t gone away” Herman laughed.
“Where’s Matt” Matt was usually with you after you had a low and you felt exhausted afterwards. “He’s on a call now everyone else should be back soon since it was something small”
“Can I have like pretzels or something I’m really hungry”You begged “you know the drill y/n you have to have something sweet that’s a drink or a snack.” Jay pointed out.  “well can I have Gatorade?” Gatorade was your all time favorite when you were low. “we’re out of Gatorade, since we didn’t go grocery shopping last week. But you can have apple juice” Kelly compromised“well not my favorite but I’ll take it”You shrugged
Kelly walks over to the fridge and retrieves your juice and hands to you. “I almost just died can someone help me open this”
“First of all, don’t say that because of a Matt was around he would freak and yes we’ll help you open it.” Jay laughs as he takes the box from you.
“I’m gonna take a nap, I’m exhausted from today” You pulled the blanket you had on closer. “Wake me if someone brings me food,I love food”
“Yes princess Y/n”
Surprise y’all I posted, apologies for not posting last month. Now I can get onto requests and my other one shot that only need about 200 more words and it’ll post.
Thank you so much for read and I love y’all

It feels like CPD is ignoring a lot of their past seasons to try and make season 10 work. Now that Burzek is back together, they are trying to say Kim has always felt the same way about Adam. No! This isn't even an anti thing, that's just not the truth. I get they needed a ship this year, but they could have just said she saw Adam in a different light now that he is a dad and he was there for her recovery. We all saw seasons 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. She was clear she didn't want a relationship with him. So now Burzek is this couple that has always felt the same way about each other and Upstead is falling apart, even though they have always been steady? I get it. Jay is gone and Burzek was bound to get back together, but they shouldn't have to revise past seasons to make it work.
Nothing further, your honor.

just started rewatching CPD (s8) and I cannot believe I haven’t seen this show for over 6 months. my babies 🥺 I missed them and I missed Jay’s smirk for his (future) wife 💗
p.s. this tumblr account pretends that season 10 never existed and will continue to do so until Upstead is reunited

Theory for Jay’s Exit
Between dodging Hailey’s calls, kicking in doors without cause, roughing up suspects, raising his voice at Hailey, holding things back, and choosing to go to a bar with Voight instead of home to his wife, Jay Halstead was hardly recognizable in 10x02. This is me making sense of all of these things that hardly make sense at all.
I, like most after last night, was left completely baffled by what they’re trying to do with Jay’s exit. I sat there during and afterward replaying Gwen’s words that, “[They] tried to stay really true to his character and to what he stands for and what he means for the show and for the unit.” Watching last night’s episode felt like the complete opposite of that. It felt like there was supposed to be a “Sike!” card waiting for us at the end, and it would all be revealed that this whole thing has just been a big joke.
I was angry, confused, and really upset about what we saw last night and how it could possibly lead into an exit that does the character and the actor justice after 10 years of tremendous growth. I kept coming up short, until @girlinlotsoffandoms threw out this theory that flipped everything around for me.
Last season, we saw Jay make a deal with Voight. It was a deal intended to reign his boss in, to protect him from himself so that they wouldn’t find their careers—their lives—at risk again the same way they were early on in the season. As the season progressed, we saw the way this deal began to falter. For the first few episodes, it was working. Voight turned to Jay as per the conditions of their deal, and Jay was able to find some kosher ways out of difficult situations. This all flipped with Anna. She became a blind spot for Voight, one he hasn’t had since his son or even Lindsay, and the structure of his deal with Jay began to fracture. We saw this all fall apart in the finale. Jay scrambled to fix things, and we saw Hailey have to knock some sense into him. I keep coming back to this conversation:
“You can’t save him from himself, Jay. You can’t find a way out for him.”
“Maybe I can.”
“No, you can’t.”
“We did for you.”
“And look at what that cost us.”
I believe this was the conversation that got in Jay’s head. He was stewing on it, then she got in the car and backed him in a way he wasn’t quite expecting, and it made him recognize through the fogginess of trying to fix the thing with Voight where his priorities lie: with her. With them.
Anna dying only solidified the realization Hailey put into his head. He realized just how much he can’t save Voight from himself, and how things can end when he’s left unregulated. These realizations instilled in him a new need, not to save Voight from himself, but to save himself, his wife, his team, the people he cares about, from Voight.
Enter @girlinlotsoffandoms’s theory.
A new chief presents the perfect opportunity for this. Voight’s out, spiraling over losing Anna, giving Jay the perfect opportunity to partner up with this new guy and come up with a plan to get Voight out. He still cares about Voight (for whatever reason) so he wouldn’t just straight up turn him in. I think he’s planning something bigger, something that’ll push Voight either into a position out of the field, away from making dangerous decisons, or out of cpd as a whole.
Clues that make a deal like this make sense
As Hailey pointed out, the chief knew Jay lied when he came up with an excuse for why Voight wasn’t at the ceremony. Yet, he didn’t question it. He didn’t call anyone out for it. Instead, he ends up giving Voight a longer leash… possibly to let him dig himself into a deeper hole? Jay is acting in a way so against who we know him to be as a person and as a cop so that he can get closer to Voight. We know how much the man pulls in those who instantly march at his orders and pushes away those who don’t. Jay’s behavior is catering to this, trying to get as close as he can and stay that way so that whatever plan he’s worked out with the Chief can come to fruition.
There’s also the conversation from last night. As someone pointed out, there was something incredibly off about Jay’s response/Jesse’s delivery to Hailey asking why he didn’t tell her about Voight/Will at Med. Almost as if he’s holding something else back.
I don’t know how this all unfolds next week in what we’ve all come to assume is Jesse’s last episode, but this is the one theory that helps me make sense of everything we’ve seen so far. It’s the one thing that makes everything Gwen has been spewing about Jay’s exit actually carry some merit. I can’t say I feel certain that this is what’s going on, but I have to hold onto this if I want to feel okay with how this is all wrapping up. I’m preparing myself for disappointment as well, but I’m also holding onto the hope of this theory or something (anything) alike that makes all of this senselessness make sense.

Has no one on PD really had a good exit?
Not really, some exits I guess you could label as neutral, but no I wouldn’t call any of them good. At least not if we’re using good as a synonym for happy. Let’s break it down (including some major recurring guests).
Julie Willhite (season 1): Line of Duty Death
Mia Sumner (season 1): forcibly transferred, IAD mole
Sheldon Jin (season 1): Murdered
Nadia DeCotis (season 2): Murdered
Sean Roman (season 3): Injured Out, and didn’t think they'd be able to hack being a desk cop
Justin Voight (season 3): Murdered
Mouse Gerwitz (season 4): Returned to Army/failure to re-assimilate to civilian life
Antonio Dawson PT 1 (season 4): Transferred own volition (so it could have been seen as a good/happy one if Chicago Justice hadn’t been canceled)
Erin Lindsay (season 4): Transferred to FBI, but would have been fired from CPD if stayed and her mother would have gone to jail, so not much choice.
Alvin Olinsky (season 5): Murdered
Antonio Dawson PT 2 (season 6/7): Drug addiction, moved to Puerto Rico to be near his sister
Vanessa Rojas (season 7/8): Unknown. You can assume happy if you want, but there's no evidence of that.
Jay Halstead (season 10): Rejoined army in some capacity, felt as though needed to leave as he was losing himself
Now, this isn’t to say that the other shows don’t have their share of “bad” exits, either. Fire has had plenty of deaths, injured-out's and fired's. So has Med, who has also had more neutral exits. But they both also have happier wrap-ups interspersed though all that as well. PD really doesn’t.

I am utterly heartbroken. I don’t really know what else to say. Do you all remember Hermoine’s bag that she was able to pull everything out of? That’s what I feel like- a huge bag of a mixture of so many different emotions.
(This post may be all over the place, so I apologize for that).
On one level, I can only wish the best for Jesse. Truly, as a long time CPD fan- even an Upstead fan... I just hope that with whatever the circumstances were, that on some level, he’s at peace with the decision. Regarding whether or not it was his decision or if he was forced out like Kelli Giddish from SVU, I am not sure. While I have my own thoughts about it, per how JLS has talked about the show and whatnot, I definitely lean one way over the other, but at the end of the day, unless someone comes out and gives us any indication on which way the pendulum swings, we may never get an answer. Which trust me, that not knowing is a hard pill to swallow. It may be one of the hardest, given how much we know JSL enjoyed not only Jay Halstead, but Upstead, Chicago, the cast and crew.
It feels like a punch to the gut, and it is. I will say this, one news article dropping the bomb at 10:30EST on a Monday night is a little weird. (Not the normal time to drop some kind of important annoucement??)
It’s not a normal news syndicate time, so they were definitely trying to get the news out there, or at least someone was so we wouldn’t even be blindsided by it. (Even though the irony is we were blindsided.) (I think they were trying to soften the blow... Just get it out there and hope it gets swept under the rug quickly.) I won’t be shocked if we get a new promo with footage within the next few days.
I’ve had my fair share of fan favorites departing from a series, but I will tell you... There is something about this one that just doesn’t sit right. Which makes me extremely nervous for how they are going to handle his departure.
I know we are not usually privy to the behind the scenes discussions on contract negotiations. We usually only hear when the show has been renewed for x amount of seasons, and then we usually hear if a character has renewed their contract or if they haven’t.
I don’t know what the stance of his contract was- was it good through season 10, was it only good through 9 and they were in negotiations and some sort of agreement couldn’t be reached by both parties.
For the time being, these are the type of details we have to be okay with not knowing.
I know we only see a small glimpse into JLS’s life and who he is- but from what we know from him, from other people, and how he has talked about this show… He is proud. He put his heart, sweat, and blood into playing Jay Halstead. He loves that character. I’ll reiterate that to note that I kept it in the present tense- he loves that character.
I find a small piece of comfort in that. Regardless of the circumstances which led to his leaving, he loves Jay. He’s proud of the work that he poured into the character… It’s obvious because look at how much of a fan favorite that he is.
I do think, that somewhere along the line, this was more of an unexpected departure than it was a prepared one. I say that because look at the development they have poured into Jay over the last ten years.
“One day this unit is going to be yours.”
“I’m not going anywhere, Hailey. Really, I’m not.”
“Where you go, I go.”
“I want to start my marriage with the woman that I love out of prison.”
These type of sentences and quotes are laid out in a show, in a relationship between two main characters, for no reason. I think they/he were planning on a long haul for Jay. I don’t think you can convince me of that otherwise… Especially, as stated above, how Jesse talked bout the the cast, crew, his love for Chicago, etc. I do know things go on BTS that we will never be privy to, but the joy he had surrounding the job wasn’t something that was fake to me. He truly loved this gig.
What scares me the most is how they might go about his departure. I think it’s going to be one of four ways (@agent-bash had a very similar post about this too):
He gets a transfer and/or a promotion. Obviously Voight isn’t going anywhere, and after the moral compass debacle that Hailey and Jay were on last year, I could see them using this as a way to put Jay as a Sargeant elsewhere in the CPD. This would allow for Upstead to remain together and have the off screen romance continue. (Also leave the door open for him to return in future episodes..
On the job injury- it’s been alluded to in the past with Mouse back in the early seasons, had a medical discharge from the military. I could see him getting shot to protect Hailey, try to protect another victim, someone and the gunshot injuring him in a capacity that he’d never be able to be fully back in the field. Like Trudy… Which would then allow him to be transferred somewhere else out of Intelligence.
Re-enlistment and/or some sort of military contractor offer. While I don’t necessarily see this as a superbly viable option, given how we know Jay has talked so little about his time in the Army… I could see them opening the door for this to allow him to stay with Hailey and write the off screen romance. I just don’t think his character would be super open to going back to the military, especially as an active duty person, given how he responded to the idea when Mouse wanted to go back to the military.
Killing him— sadly, this one is up there and I feel like they could swindle this one. This one though, is the one that scares me the most.
In reference to number 4: Killing Jay would literally ruin not only his character and character development… But it would absolutely destroy Hailey Upton.
Hailey lost Garrett. She barely got closure for that in 5x18… And it nearly destroyed her.
Hailey almost lost Jay in 6x02 when he went off to avenge the death of his father. She nearly spiraled when she saw him lying on the ground, covered in blood.
She almost lost Jay again in 7x09/7x10. We saw her distraught in the hospital- and then again in the bullpen when she threw that coffee mug because it was taking a while for the son to come up so they could use him against his father.
And then she almost lost Jay again with the whole Roy scenario— she was scared he was going to leave her because of a choice that she made.
“I’ve trusted you since the day I met you.”
“I’d follow you blind.”
“We’re always going to be good.”
“I’m not going anywhere, Hailey. Really I’m not.”
“Where you go, I go.”
“It’s a thing that works between us.”
They literally have laid such a strong foundation for Jay and Hailey, that they are…. At least to me, integral to one another.
IF they kill Jay off- I don’t really see how Hailey is going to survive that. I mean… She won’t- will not- survive Jay Halstead’s death. I mean, having to bury him- put him in the ground… I just… No. There is no plausible universe in which (even with JSL departing) killing Jay off would make sense. Especially for her character development.  Jay is integral to keeping Hailey grounded, rooted in normalcy, rooted in a home— he’s changed her. His death would break her in ways that would be irreparable.
And also- killing him would undo all of the work they laid for his character and development growth over the past ten years. It would make 0 sense. (The hard part about it is that it sadly is usually the easy route to get rid of a character is to kill them off in some form or fashion.)
Additionally… If they go the divorce route… I just can’t fathom what would actually come between them where it would come to the resolution of them getting divorced. I mean, truly… It would be so OOC for both of them, after the years of pining and the slow burn- it wouldn’t make sense to end them like that. Especially after both of their backgrounds, them taking that step- to be together forever- they both meant it, they both wanted it. They both were in it for the long haul, for forever.
This is a hard thing to grieve and process.
On one hand, with whatever the decision was, why it was made, etc... Part of me hopes Jesse is at peace with it. (Or at peace with it the best he can be.)  I truly wish nothing but the best for Jesse, and if this is the best thing for him- then so be it… Conversely, it’s OK to want things for your ship(s) and characters, one you’ve loved so dearly for a long time… Which has been the case of Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton. Ten years for Halstead, half a decade for Upstead. These are long years, where as people you’ve all seen and grown, and gone through things. You’re not just processing the character leaving- you’re processing all that has also happened to you- the friends you’ve made, the memories you have with these characters, the feelings you’ve thrown into this show, etc, that are tied into this show... They are tied into you. You’re grieving all of that, not just the loss of a beloved character.
So remember, through this, be gentle with yourself. With others. We all grieve and process differently.
There’s no right or wrong way to grieve or process this information. Take it day by day.
I don’t know how to end this, because it’s all still so fresh.
I can only hope that the writers remember the work that they have laid out the past few years, the foundation of which their characters were rooted in, the foundation and stronghold these two characters share together, and honor that in an exit that makes Jay Halstead the good, honorable man that the is. Truly, the ball is in their court with is this, and I hope they do him justice.
