Akai Ito, ou "Fio vermelho do destino" é uma lenda chinesa que se espalhou por toda a Ásia há mais de 2 mil anos atrás. Conta a lenda que no momento do nascimento, os deuses amarram uma corda vermelha invisível nos tornozelos daqueles que estão predestinados a se encontrar e se tornam ali, "almas gêmeas".

Antiga crença chinesa
Acredita-se, que quanto mais longo o fio, mais distante e tristes as pessoas estarão, e também o contrário; quanto mais próximas as pessoas destinadas estiverem, mais curto o fio e mais felizes serão. Ainda de acordo com a lenda, não importa quantas pessoas ou quantos relacionamentos passem por nossa vida, pois só seremos felizes de verdade com a pessoa que estiver na outra ponta do fio vermelho.
O mito no Japão
No Japão a lenda se tornou muito popular, mas sofreu algumas modificações. A linha que conecta as almas seria amarrada no dedo mindinho ao invés de nos tornozelos, e ganha o nome: Unmei no akai ito , que significa: Corda vermelha do destino. A história também fala sobre um fio invisível que conecta duas pessoas que estão destinadas a viver juntas para sempre! Uma ligação espiritual e que representa o amor em sua forma mais plena!
