Taylor may have a list of sapphic encounters as long as my arm, and more power to her if she does, but all of the supposed “evidence” in the various popular timelines and theories feels like fanfic to me.
Look I don’t know why that’s what we get caught up on. The evidence for Tyson and Matty is slim but people respond to it pretty easily. Loads of people think she dated Zac Efron and like wrote a bunch of songs for him even tho I think he was still with/“with” - I think it was fairly complicated - Van so at best he could be Girl At Home. People deadass say obvious fictional short story Mine is “for” Cory Monteith a man she didn’t appear to date really. People assign WD to Alex Skarsgard even tho, again, there is zero reliable evidence they dated.
Like ya Tay’s major public non showmance (and Taylor Squared and Haylor too but let’s stay focused) relationships have been with men.
She has been rumored to have additional entanglements and has herself implied it to be true multiple times.
So with that in mind, I don’t see it as weird to speculate about her maybe having boned women too along the way.
That said, I do think there’s legit evidence for Dianna, specifically with the song Wonderland. Like... what was that about? Again I don’t believe Haylor dated the way they said not for Gaylor reasons just coz it makes no sense like it’s all transparent fanfic bullshit but even if we live in the reality where it went down exactly as they marketed it WHY WRITE A SONG ABOUT YOUR EX-BOYFRIEND WITH REFERENCES TO YOUR EX-BESTIE’S FAVORITE BOOK? And the “too in love to think straight” line in a song about... Dianna’s favorite book... is sketch.
And tbh I have no rational explanation for a liner that says Hyiannis Port in... every version ever printed up until 2020. It’s not a typo tbh. So what the fuck does it mean? And why did Dianna freak out when asked if she was referenced in the liner when HER NAME WAS DEADASS IN THE 22 LYRICS (along with other girls)?
And why did they stop hanging out because of Di’s boyfriend lol that makes no sense Tay has stayed friends with people with boyfriends and Di was around for Connor and Harry. People love to say she loses friends often but she deadass doesn’t, she’s one loyal bitch and most of her friends stick around for like... aeons. The only two she ever “lost” are Di and Karlie. And I can explain Karlie away as not that deep a friendship and mostly PR and Tay ditching her after 1989 era was done and she had Joe to help promote the next one image wise. But like. Tay and Di didn’t promote jackshit together they barely touched in public. What was the vibe?
Yeah like I’m sorry but Swiftgron most likely happened.
There’s kinda no real way to explain it all away, without just throwing in the towel and going, “COINCIDENCES!” Which I’d maybe buy if it weren’t for like... one being a liner Easter egg like she’s pedantic with those. And if it weren’t for how it ended.
Obvi we don’t know exactly how or what all went down and anyone who claims to is writing fanfic right, like people write Swiftwyn fanfic all the time too, it’s okay to do that... But I don’t know man. I don’t know. I’m a very rational person but I struggle to find an alternative explanation for the stuff I’m listing above and when I add it to what I’ve listed as my evidence of Tay being off straight I... really don’t think it’s absurd like at this point it seems more absurd to think it couldn’t have happened tbh.
I get that she could be a moron or a capitalist who baits for clout but like WHAT WENT DOWN WITH DIANNA???

yoooooooooo, I’m in need of a beta (or betas) for my Garak/Bashir fics since all my usual proofreaders are busy.
summaries/warnings for 4 completed fics are listed under the cut. total word count is 111k+. all are rated ‘explicit’ except for one ‘mature’.
my previous fics are here if you want to know how I write.
preferably I’m looking for someone who can beta all of them, and more fics that come after this, but anyone who can do a one-off is cool too. I definitely want someone who’s good at suggesting things in the name of intersectional feminism and reader sensitivity! or just questioning things and commenting in general. catching typos or confusing sentences would be a huge bonus but that’s not my priority~
please share this with people you think might be interested!!!
--
fics listed longest first, not necessarily the ideal posting order. some of these have been lightly or partially beta’d already.
--
1. The Wolf Who Cried Doctor
Elim Garak/Julian Bashir, Julian Bashir & Ezri Dax
55k, Explicit
Garak is certain: any day now, Julian will discover that the most frequent visitor to DS9’s Infirmary has been going out of his way to fake, cause, and invite harm unto himself in order to gain his dear doctor’s attention. Garak cheerfully tells his lies with just enough variation to remain interesting, but remains afraid that one day Julian won’t believe him when there’s really something wrong.
But Julian is already aware there’s a problem. And the best treatment for an acute case of touch-starved loneliness, he believes, is to provide Garak with as much physical affection and emotional care as possible. It’s not like Julian couldn’t do with some company himself, given how his relationship with Ezri has been fraying.
But neither Julian nor Garak envisioned what could come of it all. Neither of them ever prepared for bliss.
(A post-canon fic where Garak comes back to DS9 and feelings happen.)
Tags: non-endgame pairing:, Julian Bashir/Ezri Dax, side pairings: Ezri Dax/Kira Nerys, Kira Nerys/Keiko O'Brien/Miles O'Brien, Romance, Hurt/Comfort, Fluff, Happy Ending, Angst, Self-Harm, Depression, Mutual Pining, Friends to Lovers, (Julian and Garak), Lovers to Friends, (Julian and Ezri), Sharing a Bed, Cuddling & Snuggling, Massage, Holding Hands, First Kiss, Touch-Starved Elim Garak, Lonely Elim Garak, Jealous Elim Garak, Garak is the quadrant’s most melodramatic drama queen, Lonely Julian Bashir, Bisexual Julian Bashir, Julian’s Foot Fetish, Ezri Ships It, Supportive Ezri Dax, Matchmaker Ezri Dax, Love Triangle, except it’s a tangle of lines, Polyamory, Communication is Hard but Vital, Replicator Malfunctions, Space Station Antics, First Time, Bottom Julian Bashir, Top Elim Garak
Warnings: Garak self-harms (nothing gory or graphic - just hot tea + gravity, improper handling of sewing tools, baiting others to use brute force, purposefully ingesting questionable foodstuffs; scars from past cutting) - but for most of the story he doesn’t think his actions are troublesome, merely viewing self-harm as a means to an end to acquire the physical comfort and emotional attention that he craves from Julian. (Disclaimer: I’m aware this is not the only reason real people might self-harm, but it’s Garak’s reason.)
Unspecific suicidal ideation (Julian tells Garak off and Garak’s like “welp! guess I’ll die now”). Both Garak and Julian are wildly depressed and lonely - and I swear that Ezri, the O’Briens, and I are trying our darnedest to rescue them, but they both have a tendency to spiral into a vortex of doom without talking to anyone about it, so it’s not the easiest thing to do. >:|
Foot fetish is mild but... y’know, present. (Oh, Julian.)
Regarding polyamory/love triangle tags (spoilers ahead!): Julian loves Ezri A LOT but doesn’t realise it’s in a platonic friendship way, and privately ties himself in knots over not being sexually or romantically attracted to her anymore (if he ever was to begin with). Much panicking about unintentional cheating happens, because he’s accidentally in love with Garak while dating Ezri - except (more spoilers) Ezri is trying to set him up with Garak anyway. Ezri is totally poly and way more chill than 99% of people would be in her position. Past Kira/Keiko/Miles.
Special note I mentioned to current betas: you should probably know that i feel some sort of divided way about how ezri is SO accepting of julian's disaster sexuality, because a) i've never once seen any character react like that, ever, in anything fictional or real (potentially bc of lack of bi and poly rep), and b) her reactions are based on how i would react in her place??? (note that i'm aro, ace, and bi, (well that's simplified) so if i was in a relationship with julian it would definitely be platonic but me being madly attracted to him despite that) so it's like... really personal but also i'm worried nobody would relate and would say i made her a pushover. so any pointers you have there would be lovely <3

2. Runabout Rollabout
Elim Garak/Julian Bashir
23.5k, Explicit
Julian Bashir, Elim Garak, Keiko O’Brien, Kasidy Yates, Kira Nerys, Ezri Dax (mentioned)
Eight months after the war ends, Julian invites Garak on a pollen-harvesting trip to Bajor. Distracted by the delight of seeing his friend after so long, Garak gets himself blasted with hormone-altering pollen, and is forced to ride out the repercussions on the runabout journey back to DS9. Symptoms include mood swings, unusual food cravings, and an urgent need for emotional assurance and physical contact. Julian is glad to offer relief, in whatever manner Garak requires. Even in the most intimate of ways...
Secretly, they both hope their brief affair in the runabout’s bottom bunk will lead to something more. But how could it, when duty forever trumps desire?
Tags: Post-Canon, Romance, Hurt/Comfort, Fluff, Porn With Plot, Mutual Pining, Sex Pollen, Mood Swings, Hormones, Cuddling & Snuggling, Public Display of Affection, Smut, Explicit Consent, First Kiss, Caring Julian Bashir, Hormonal Elim Garak, Horny Elim Garak, First Time, Anal Sex, Top Elim Garak, Bottom Julian Bashir, but they do switch briefly, Post-Canon Bajor, Post-Canon Cardassia, Illustrated
Notes: FYI, Julian and Ezri are no longer a couple. How that happened is discussed late in the fic, but Garak thinks they’re still dating when he and Julian sleep together for medical reasons. (Julian is NOT cheating, but Garak guiltily believes he is.)
This one’s probably an easy edit tbh. But I’m still questioning that ^ Garak-thinks-Julian-seeing-Ezri thing, so anyone who can tell me if it feels right, if I need to edit it, or if I should take it out, would be great.

3. Tail Over Heels
Elim Garak/Julian Bashir
Julian Bashir, Elim Garak, Amsha Bashir, Benjamin Sisko, Ezri Dax, Miles O’Brien, Kira Nerys, and everyone else
19.9k, Mature
Despite every attempt to deter her, Julian’s mother is coming to DS9. Here’s the problem: Julian told her he was married, and he’s not. Here’s the solution: Garak stands in as Julian’s husband. She’s meant to hate him. But Garak is just too damn likable - and a liiiittle too convincing in the role of Julian’s lover. Not only does his mother believe the lie, but so does everyone else on the station. Even Julian himself is starting to wonder...
Tags: Romance, Fluff, Fake Marriage, Fake/Pretend Relationship, Mistaken For A Couple, Moving In Together, Roommates, Sharing a Bed, Cuddling & Snuggling, Holding Hands, Eavesdropping, Bickering, Cardassian Flirting, First Kiss, First Time, Garak has a tail, Slightly Alternate Canon, set mid season 7, or an alternate post-canon where nobody leaves
Note: This one’s the oldest and closest to being publishable, and already illustrated and lightly beta’d, so this will likely post first, before the end of March 2020. But it definitely needs another going-over.
--
4. Code for Consent
Elim Garak/Julian Bashir
13k, Explicit
Julian Bashir, Elim Garak, Miles O’Brien, Keiko O’Brien
With Miles away, Julian needs someone else to play the evil villain in his secret agent holosuite program. Garak steps up. But tying Julian to a bedpost and fake-torturing him turns out to be an accidental turn-on for both of them. Julian doesn’t want to break character, so allows Garak to escalate his erotic domination towards the point of no return - yet Garak won’t go any further with their roleplay without clear consent. Now Julian has to figure out a way to show Garak he wants him without saying it outright. (But then again, maybe saying it matters.)
Tags: Smut, Romance, Fluff, Friends to Lovers, Porn With Plot, Porn with Feelings, Holodecks/Holosuites, Roleplay, Cardassian Flirting, Accidental Stimulation, Light Bondage, Choking, Light Knifeplay, Consensual Non-Consent, Rape Roleplay, (foreplay only) - soon followed by:, Explicit Consent, Holding Hands, Making Love, Schmoop, Top Elim Garak, Bottom Julian Bashir, set late season 6
Note: Nobody’s read this yet so idk how it comes across to other people, which worries me. Something about it doesn’t sit right with me but I can’t figure it out and need help with that :/

(also maybe a timeframe of when you’d be able to beta. starting any time in the next couple of weeks is fine.)
(disclaimer to people with anxiety: I welcome anyone <3 if you want to say hi, PLEASE DO. I reserve the right not to pick you for any number of secret reasons, and I might not reply quickly, or at all, because I have chronic fatigue and messages are A Lot for me, but it doesn’t mean I don’t like you or you did something wrong!! promise.)

more thoughts about the magnus archives as i reread the transcripts
i was thinking about how gertrude robinson was really an extraordinary person (not extraordinarily Morally Sound, but extraordinary) just because of who she was, whereas the only extraordinary things about jonathan sims are things that have been arranged for him (i.e. his role). i don't mean this as a diss for jonathan, as i'm not extraordinary either. it's just striking that gertrude was so driven and confident compared to jon. of course, now we know that basically everything she did was in the pursuit of a moot goal (i.e. killing people in order to stop rituals that were already doomed to fail) so maybe my point is somewhat moot as well.
i've been doing some rereading of episodes on my phone (i.e. away from this text document on my computer) and i'll have a realization like "right, i should note that down when i get back to my computer" and i have forgotten all of them now that i am back at my computer. suffice it to say there are quite a few things i misheard/misunderstood on the first listen, unsurprisingly.
reading through the first 20 or so episodes i'm surprised by how well i remember each of them, considering i was listening like 4 episodes a day when i started. then again, it was only a month or two ago that i even listened to them, so one should hope my memory is at least this good. anyway the first episode i'm re-listening instead of rereading is 22 bc that's the first one where we hear martin's voice, i'm pretty sure
i've also noticed some errors in the official transcripts, which aren't a big deal because obviously what matters most is the audio, but still... some of them have been simple typos. magnus archives hire me as your official transcriptionist and i'll make all your transcripts 100% error-free bc im smatr
(reading through the rest of the transcripts and my standards went way down in terms of grammar/stylistic consistency, as most of the later ones are fan transcripts by several different people. i found quite a few mistakes, but obviously i have no particular way to help fix them short of sending an email to the tma transcripts fansite person like “hey there’s all these mistakes. upload my good version instead?” bc i’m not that much of a dick)
the whole reason martin went to the spider guy's building was because he didn't want jon to be disappointed in him for not doing Due Diligence. he says so twice. then he went back for the same reason. it seems the fandom joke is "jon asks his assistants to do crimes for him" but in this case martin is like "oh no maybe i didn't do enough crimes to satisfy jon"
jon was doing his archivist voice HEAVILY in season 1, huh?
tim's first appearance is so jovial compared to how he ends up...
if this boat lady is speaking spanish in brazil, then it doesn't matter if it was "bad spanish" or not. anyway now i understand why we already knew peter lukas was serving the lonely by the time jon mentioned offhand that peter lukas was serving the lonely. it was my whole “let’s not bother noting down any FREQUENTLY RECURRING names”
well i guess robert smirke was a real person. should i feel dumb about this? idk. it’s such a fictional-sounding name, to be fair. but i guess that set the precedent of using a real person as an important historical figure in the fiction that we see happening again when edmund halley is referenced later on. also episode 35 has foreshadowing for the separation of 14 powers, and people thought it was 13 because they mention 13 halls PLUS the one they came through.
totally forgot about tim goofing around in episode 39... he was really not having the worst time at this job before bad things started happening and he realized he was trapped, huh
the worms were trying to make a doorway into the Worm Wealm
ep 40 jon's like "I need to hear it. I need to record it. Or else I can't finish." (lightly abridged)
listening to the season 1 Q&A for the first time and EARL BIGMAC
also good to know there's only going to be 5 seasons. very good to know. this seems like a good kind of series to write with a fixed endpoint in mind, as it's very easy to do an episode that has effectively no bearing on the MetaPlot but which is still a short story in itself and therefore doesn't count as "filler"
jonathan sims performs with a mythical space pirate music cabaret. so he IS a ham
jonny says, "no rude words. i could say bums, maybe..." (alexander j newall does a laugh while i do the exact same laugh irl) "...but i won't."
some dumbass writing into the Q&A to ask if the background music is diegetic... get a podcast brain, ya fool. though for my part, i have to say that one of the most striking things about this podcast when i first started listening (though i never made a note of it before) was the Too Spooky Music, and i didn't like it at all. the reason was that i am, and have been, vulnerable to Getting Spooked about irrational things at night, such that it becomes really hard to fall asleep... and one of the things that has an outsize effect on my level of Spookédness is spooky audio. so if i was watching a video at night and i was worried it would Get Me Spooked, i would just turn the sound off, and it would turn out fine. but obviously you can't turn the sound off on a podcast. and i've been listening to podcasts after work, i.e. after 5pm, and i go to bed at like 8 or 9pm because i'm old. so the way it turned out was that even if the actual subject of the podcast wasn't that scary to me, the music would amplify it in an unpleasant way and make me more likely to have trouble sleeping. also i think most of the episodes would have been fine without the music, or maybe with some less intentionally-disconcerting background music.
this just in: i seem to have totally missed episode 50 on my first listen-through, despite having gone in linear order. bc i'm listening to it now and i've definitely never heard this before. fortunately it doesn't seem to have much of a bearing on the rest of the series, so it's not like i missed any crucial information. tbh the only worthwhile bit was a brief moment of tim being a ham, which was good. i hope i didn't miss any other episodes the first time... still don't know how i managed to miss this one.
the official transcript said [EXTENDED SOUNDS OF BRUTAL PIPE MURDER] ...
so gertrude and leitner WERE played by jonny's parents <:3c i'd thought as much when i saw the cast names but i like that it's confirmed. his mom is a really good actress too. i always find the gertrude episodes to be striking in a certain way
"it's Fine working with your parents. it's Fine." as someone who worked with my mom for like a year i can confirm this
i'm tickled to find that the official transcripts have a sense of humor. i wonder who is behind them. i also wonder, what is the excuse for not having a full set of official transcripts when it is a script-based show? surely you know what is going to be said beforehand, and you have it written down, and if someone ends up saying something different in the final recording, surely it wouldn’t be too hard to give the original script a little edit, and bam! that’s a transcript. i wonder if this approach is not feasible for some reason.
whenever martin reads statements, he says something about jon... whenever he talks to someone, he says something about jon
i think episode 110 is an instance of the tape recorder turning ITSELF off... at the end of the episode. because they walk away, and they say something distantly, and then it turns off. lots of other times, there had to be a diegetic reason for the tape recorder to turn off at the end.
i noticed something which i missed last time, which was that there is a rumor between melanie and georgie and basira that implies that jonathan is asexual. worth noting, i think. [side note added in later: yeah it’s canon. cool]
also i listened to episode 103 again and yes. i had thought-- i had been SURE-- that the person interrogating the traffic cop (using the asky ability) was martin. but it was actually jon. how did i possibly manage that mistake? i'm not great at distinguishing voices, but i'm not THAT bad. the only possible answer: when i was listening to the episode for the first time... i must have been eating a crunchy snack.
"it doesn't have to make sense! alex has to make it sense." (jonny sims re: writing the spiral)
glad to know that jonny sims regrets using his own name for the protagonist. doesn't make a difference either way at this point but yeah
YES i knew episode 100 was improvised. and i see, all the statementers had actually had supernatural experiences, but because the archivist was absent, their statements didn't have the coherence and clarity normally lent to them by the eye (in exchange for becoming cursed). i think melanie or basira actually said pretty much that in the episode itself, but i still couldn't be sure that all of those people had something real to talk about.
"in the same way that tim is dead, michael is helen." good shit
the archivist is canon a bit of a drama queen. the first bullet point in my first tma notes document is vindicated
jonny sims mentions another podcast (apocrypals) that sounds 100% up my alley, so that is appreciated, i will add that to my list i think. (listened to episodes 0 and 1 of apocrypals and i'm heavily struck by how VERY clearly i can hear the smiles in chris sims's voice. i did not know smiling could be so audible, truly.) (listened to quite a few more episodes of apocrypals and it’s certainly entertaining at times. i should’ve been reading along though. maybe some other time)
I DIDN'T LISTEN TO THE SEASON 4 TEASER THE FIRST TIME AROUND.........................................
i must confess something that people who know me well may already know: i hate when stories have a bad ending. an unhappy ending. a painful ending. a hopeless ending. bittersweet is the furthest in that direction i can tolerate. my perspective, which is pretty deep-seated, is that there's no point in getting to know and love characters if you're only going to be hurt by that connection to them when the end turns out to be bad. if i have even a mild inkling that a story is heading toward a bad ending, i make a conscious effort to regard all characters from afar and not develop any strong attachments. this is not so much "how i think all stories need to be," but rather, "the characteristics a story needs to have to appeal to me personally." so i understand that my view is very subjective and mostly based on my own mental weakness. but i can't help but apply it to the media i consume. and the idea that someone would do something like "make characters very human and strongly developed" IN COMBINATION WITH "heading toward a bad end" makes me upset. like, picture a horror movie. think about the characters in a horror movie. with the exception of a main character, if there is one, there's no guarantee that anyone is going to survive to the end of the film... BUT... the characters generally aren't fleshed out and very sympathetic. i wouldn't go so far as to say they're disposable, but you're not SUPPOSED to cry when they die; you're just supposed to get scared. their purpose is as objects of fear, and you never expect or even hope for a happy ending. but in the magnus archives... all i'm saying... is that i would cry if any of the remaining members of the main cast died. and it seems clear that we're not heading to a happy ending. so i'm somewhat afraid, and not in a good way. i don't know how much i can trust jonny sims to give me the story i want, and obviously, i'm not entitled to it.
if your name is jonathan and you want to shorten it, the short form is jon. it ain't john, no matter what the official transcripts say. where'd you get that h, huh? stole it from someone else's name? are you shortening it like JOnatHaN? you can’t just be that sneaky!
i listened to scrutiny again and it hits so hard. now, in heart of darkness, when manuela begs jon not to force her statement, it's really heavy given the direct context of the previous two episodes where we see how compulsion works and how it hurts.
also when jon was talking about how to destroy the dark sun and he was like "i just need to see it," when i first heard it, i assumed he meant something along the lines of, "by seeing it, i will learn how to destroy it." but now i understand that the mere act of the eye seeing it destroys it, because being known is what the darkness is weakest to.
the magnus employees who work in the library probably at least have a LITTLE BIT of a feeling that they work in an almost normal place, given that jon and all his assistants were able to have that impression before transferring to the archives. so i wonder how the magnus library people feel about their institute's director getting arrested for double murder and now the big boss is a completely unrelated ship captain who seems to want nothing to do with the place but simultaneously is trying to continue business as usual
on second listen, listening to jon ask helen when the guilt stops (wrt hurting people in order to feed one's patron fear) is pretty chilling. because it seems like he's definitely accepting that he will have to hurt people, and what he's concerned about is how bad it makes HIM feel. of course, helen then answers with precisely what i just wrote, so...
i should've read the transcript for episode 159 instead of relistening because i forgot that peter lukas's actor got so gravelly and hard to listen to in this one. anyway, time to re-listen to the season 4 finale... then i'll listen to the season 4 Q&As and stuff... and then the new episode. (DOKI DOKI DOKI DOKI DOKI)
i heard in the Q&A that the voice of peter lukas did multiple takes for episode 159?! but it was because of technical difficulties. right. because i can’t imagine the way it turned out being deemed the best take. sorry
ok, things i missed last time i listened to 160: daisy and the other two hunters are missing. also jon mentioned "magnus's body" and martin mentioned "an old man's corpse" and at the time i took this to mean (somewhat unthinkingly) that when jon and martin returned from the lonely, they killed elias/jonah's body. which would be a weird thing to happen "off-camera," so to speak. so i think i must have been wrong? slightly confused. ok, no, i'm now sure that elias survived, so i must have misunderstood. definitely alive.
as martin leaves and jon is about to begin the statement, he sounds so peaceful and satisfied. that's good acting.
by the way, in one of the previous few episodes, i noticed that jonah seems to have body-swapped by switching out his eyes into his preferred body, which i'm pretty sure i missed the first time.
i like that jonny sims checks reddit to see whether people have solved the mystery. that's just a really funny way to do things, sneaking a peek like "hmm how mysterious is my mystery? let's see who has figured it out..." and for the record, i wasn't even close to figuring it out. but to be fair to myself, i didn't try. like i said from the beginning, i started listening with the intent of going along for the ride. plus the mystery had already been solved before i started listening to the series, so it's not like i had a lot of time in between updates to contemplate whether elias was jonah, etc.
JON'S AMERICAN ACCENT FOR THE IONIZED YEAST AD
ALEX WAS THE VOICE OF JARED HOPWORTH?! i mean it was so messed up it could have been anybody but god
ALEX DIDN'T LET GERTUDE CACKLE
i've listened to the bloopers (including a gertrude cackle?) and the season 5 trailer (martin seems slightly cavalier about the end of the world but maybe he's just trying to keep his shit together for jon) and i'm going to listen to the new episode Soon.
final conclusion on rereads/relistens: i had pretty poor comprehension of some important happenings. i’m realizing just how easy it is to mishear/fail to hear exactly what is happening in a podcast when you’re doing other stuff at the same time. there are still a couple things i don’t quite understand, but i think i’ll have a look around the wiki one of these days.

Hello there, sorry for bothering you, just a little question! If I remember correctly you said somewhere that you aren't native english speaker,I've always thought you were,is it your 2nd language? If not, could I ask please how did you improve it that much?I think it's safe to say my english level is intermediate since most of the times I understand what I read and I know a lot more than beginner english! 1/2
I understand what I read but I can't really write myself because my grammar is suck and my teacher isn't helping at all,I need my english grammar to be perfect for a reason,so would you mind me if I asked for a few advice? if you wouldn't thanks in advance ! again sorry for bothering you don't have to answer if you don't want to 2/2
Hi!
Okay, first of all, your English is super fine!
English is my second language, and I struggled with it a lot, still do.
I started studying it when I was in elementary school so it's almost been 20 years. Granted, the teachers were heavily underqualified at the time, and I never had good English teachers for most of my school years. I remember some defining moments in my learning of English: in middle school I was a big fan of Avril Lavigne and I wanted to understand her lyrics (we didn't use the internet that much at the time and there were hardly good translations online) so I armed myself with a dictionary and her lyrics booklet. Towards the end of high school I started watching anime in earnest, and most of the time I watched them with English subs because finding subs in my native language was a hassle. Then a bit later I fell hard for No.6, found its English novels online and started reading those and I realized I understood English enough to read books. So I started reading books in English. Then I decided to translate a couple of novels from English into my native language.
Even then, I realized that my written English, and my listening and speaking skills were very subpar, compared to my reading abilities. We rarely had to write common real-life sentences in school, and we spoke and listened to real-life conversations, like...never.
So (for different reasons) I opened a twitter account where I tweeted only in English and interacted only with other English speaking people (i realized often they weren't natives but that was good bc at least I wouldn't feel conscious about my skills). At the beginning I struggled a lot with coming up with even the simplest sentences, especially if I was in a fast-paced chat, sometimes I couldn't find the words, now it's become second nature. I still make mistakes. My only consolation is that English natives make mistakes as well ("should of", "per say" "your" instead of "you're", they sometimes don't know the meaning of certain, less common words).
Then, in order to improve my listening skills, I started watching movies in English with English subs. It was really hard of course, but I just read the subs until I could feel myself looking at them less and less, and now I can watch most movies without subs. I think doing this could also help your grammar. When I am unsure about a grammar structure I find myself thinking back on if I ever heard someone say a sentence like that, if it even sounds good if I were to read it out loud, and what would be the most natural way to say it. Being used to spoken English can improve your writing a lot. Of course, I also google grammar structures I'm not sure of.
And finally, for written English, you can also download Grammarly, a browser add-on that corrects your grammar mistakes. For example:
Tumblr media
The free version I own doesn't catch ALL of the mistakes, but it helps, especially with typos or when I'm too lazy to add proper commas and capital letters or if I forget a damn 's' for a plural!
Also, based on your native language, you can study (more like, try and become actively aware of) the differences between that and English. I think it helps a lot, because, for example, sometimes I can tell if a person speaks my same native language by the mistakes they make or the weird sentence structures they use. So being aware of these differences is important.
Then, of course, I studied some clauses structure books (though tbh I hardly learned practical things from them lol) and used grammar builders.
Also, I just found this image and I feel it's true. The more proficient you become, the slower it is to improve.
Tumblr media
You're already at an intermediate level and I think it's great. You just need to use English a lot, the things you need to learn aren't many now so it might feel frustrating if you're not making super visible progress every week. Just know that you're still, always learning.

Tumblr media
       Roger Taylor x Reader
previous chapters: ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT, NINE, TEN, ELEVEN, TWELVE
Summary: FINALLY you and Roger started your relationship after lots of arguments and each one of you trying to not admit the feelings for each other. Well, this chapter is mostly how your relationship is going.
A/N: WE ARE HEADING NEAR THE END MY LOVES (tbh idk how many chapters left, but heh, I feel like it’s almost done). Just to not be a rushed story, I tried to show a bit of their relationship, it wasn’t easy to be honest, I’m afraid it was a bit boring, ugh, I hope y’all like like it. Don’t forget the feedback, p l e a s e
> Grammar errors and typos as usual. If you want to know when the next chapters come out, send me an ask for a note so I can add you on the taglist. xx Words: 2k.  “Roger, I can’t concentrate if you keep trying to make everything in this living room a drum.”
           “But-”
“If you want to make noise, why don’t you go home?”
           “But-”
“I need to study or I can’t go to the gig tonight.”
           “Ok.”
“Thank you.” He stayed quiet for a minute then he started to hum one of Queen’s songs.
           “Roger!” you complained again.
“Alright! Sorry.” He apologized in what seemed to be the hundredth time in that day.
“Don’t you want to go out to grab us some lunch?” you asked trying to make him leave the apartment somehow.
“I thought we were going to have pasta-” he started when he saw your face. “Ok, I’ll be right back.”
           “Don’t worry.”
“Day one and she already can’t stand me.” He said while grabbing a jacket, you couldn’t avoid but laugh a bit, he kissed your forehead before leaving the apartment, you could finally concentrate a bit.
Roger had just left your building and it was going to cross the street when he saw a familiar face approaching.
“Roger? Roger Taylor?” the man stopped him. Roger tried to remember where he was familiar from until he said so. “I’m looking for (Y/N), is she home? We were supposed to meet last night but she never showed up.”
           ‘Shit’, Roger thought.
           “Oh, Michael, isn’t it?”
“Matthew.” He corrected. “Is she home?”
“Mmh, she’s busy, mate. Don’t worry though, she will let you know what happened.” And Roger walked away, Matt touched his shoulder, trying to make him stop, but Roger pulled his own shoulder away so Matt couldn’t touch it. He turned around to see what that guy still wanted.
“Are you two together or something?” Matt angrily asked. Roger was done with that guy.
“Yeah, she’s my girl, you should back off.”
“Why that bitch still went out with me if she’s dating you?”
“Ok first, don’t you dare to offend her and second, that’s not of your concern but we only made things official last night.”
“Oh, so it was very easy to keep me up waiting like a moron.”
“You are a moron.” And Matt tried to punch Roger’s face but Roger dodged       it and punched his face, his nose started to bleed. “Don’t show around her again.” He said and left at once.
One hour later Roger went back to your apartment.
“Finally!” you exclaimed watching him arriving.
“I went out for a walk too, so maybe you would have more time to concentrate.”
           “Did you bring my food?”
           “You mean our food?”
“Yeah…” you said ironically. He gave you a box of Chinese food, he had learnt already that it was one of your favorites. “Oh my god, I love you.” You let it out and Roger widened his eyes.
“The food.” You immediately corrected. “I meant the food.”
There was a tension in the air for a moment and Roger didn’t know what to answer.
           “I met Max”
“Max?” you asked confused while eating the food already.
“Yeah, that guy you were dating.”
           “You mean Matt?”
“Yes, that one. I punched him.” You almost choked with the food.
           “You what?” you almost yelled.
“I mean, he tried to punch me first” Roger said as a defense. “He was coming to see you and he confronted me, I said we are now dating and he called you a bitch and well, we got there.”
“I don’t know if I should be mad or flattered.”
“You should clean yourself” he answered handing over a napkin to you, because you got your cheek dirty. The tension was no longer there.
“I see two love birds” it was the first thing an excited Freddie said when saw the two of you arriving together.
“Freddie Mercury, that’s (Y/N), my girlfriend.” Roger said.
“Finally!” Brian said showing up behind Freddie. You just laughed.
“Where’s Deaky?” you wanted to know.
“Probably around that girl again, what’s her name?”
“Veronica, I think. She seems nice.”
“I feel like we will have to help him just like we did to our mate Rog over here.”
And the conversation kept going for a while, until Freddie left to pay attention to other people. Roger was next to you most of the time, making you company and not leaving you alone. For a moment he left you to go grab some drinks, it was when Deaky showed up.
“(Y/N)!” he excited exclaimed when saw you. “How are you?” he sat near you.
“Hello, Mr. Deacon. I’m great, how’s your girl?”
“Pf, can’t believe the guys already said about her.”
“Well, I have heard about her before, but just saying I want to know her. She needs my approval.” You winked.
“Of course” he smiled back “but not today, I want you two meet out of a party like this.”
           “If you insist.”
“And how are the things going with Roger? He’s all smiley and so are you.”
“Apparently we are dating now.” You shrugged hiding a smile.
“Hey, that’s great, honey! Is that what you wanted, isn’t it?”
“I guess, I like him but… I know it won’t last.” Deaky took a deep breath before answering you.
“(Y/N), don’t think if it will last or not, just enjoy the now, alright?” he winked, smiling, right at this moment Roger was back, carrying the drinks. The three of you kept talking until left again to find his girl.
Three months went on very well in the relationship of you and Roger, until the first bad arguing. Roger went out with the guys and got drunk, he didn’t let you know where he was going, he just called you in the middle of the night asking if you were awake so he could go to your place and the two of you could shag; you had to go pick him up. You didn’t like that he didn’t tell you that he was going out, you didn’t mind of him going out without you, you had learnt to trust him, although he didn’t let you know about this time.
It was almost 2am when you arrived at the club to go pick him, your clothes were very normal compared to the others that people were wearing there, so you called out attention, people were opening room for you to pass. You found Roger sitting on a table, drunk, playing cards with other people, a girl in his arm.
“(Y/N)!” he happily yelled when he saw you, standing up, completely ignoring the girl next to him. He hugged you and you tried to avoid him touching you. “Hey everyone, that’s my girl!” he let them all know. “Hey babe, what are you doing here?”
“Roger, you’re shitfaced.” You affirmed as he didn’t know that. He laughed, that only made you angrier. “Let’s go home.”
“Are you angry?” he asked trying to sound worried but he was trying to not laugh.
“No, just disappointed that you didn’t tell me you were going out, you know I don’t mind, why wouldn’t you tell me?”
“Hey, Roger, it’s your turn” some guy from the table yelled at him. Roger ignored him, he couldn’t think straight. You just put your arm around him and walked with him until outside, you looked for his car and caught his car keys in his pocket. You made him sit on the passenger seat, you were going to drive.
During your way home, he was making jokes and disturbing you while you were driving, almost making you crash the car once. You parked the car in front of your building, you were too pissed to help Roger out of the car, well it was his own car, he could sleep there if he wanted to. You went back to your apartment and not much longer he knocked the door, you let him in. You remained in silence the whole time, you went to the bedroom and he went to the kitchen to get something to eat, and drink water.
You were lying on bed, he jumped on the bed, making it creak.
“(Y/N)…” he called you, hugging you.
“What?” you answered roughly. He kissed your neck, his hand going further to grab your breast. You stood up, getting rid of him.
“Not in the mood?” he asked, sitting on bed. “Come on, come back to bed, I promise I will make it good for you.” You knew it wouldn’t do anything if you yelled at him at this moment, he wasn’t himself, so it would worth nothing.
“You’re going to sleep on the couch.” You said, and pushed him making him fell from the bed. He was so drunk that he laid on the floor and didn’t even move, he slept there the whole night.
You had classes the next day so you completely ignored the sleeping Roger on your bedroom’s floor. When you arrived home at the afternoon he was still there, with an ‘I just woke up face’.
“Hey love” he smiled at you when you arrived home, he was sitting on the couch and had a book in his hands. “I went home for a while, I just got back actually.” You just ignored him, heading to the kitchen to drink water. He followed you.
“(Y/N), is everything ok?” you stared at him.
“Roger, why didn’t you tell me that you were going out last night?”
“You had classes, love. You couldn’t go.”
“Couldn’t you have at least let me know? You called me in the middle of the night being drunk as asking for sex. I went to pick you up, you were a mess.”
“Well, at least I didn’t have sex with anyone else.” That was his defense, you hate it; couldn’t he at least apologize for not letting you know? Or were you overreacting?
“That is your answer?” you tried to keep it cool.
“What you want me to say?”
“Anything but ‘at least I didn’t have sex with anyone else” you mimicked him.
           “But that’s true!”
“That’s not the point, Roger. I know that’s quite a big deal for you since you can’t keep your cock in your pants for more than a few days, but what I’m trying to say is that you didn’t let me know.”
“Aren’t you overreacting a bit?” maybe you were but that made you even angrier.
“That’s it, get out.” You said while kicking him out of your apartment.
“Fine!” he said getting his coat and heading to the door.
“Fine.” You shouted back, he had left, slamming the door.
You didn’t talk for two days until he showed up to pick you up at school. You ignored him, but when he first saw you all he did were to apologize to you. He said sorry and kept calling himself ugly names. You agreed with them all. You two were in good terms again and things kept good for one more month, it was when your summer vacations started. Your time to study in London was done – you would have just three months left in the city, during vacations. Or you would go back to Bradford. Queen was going on tour soon again. The new relationship that had between you and Roger wasn’t strong enough to face the distance, especially with Queen on tour. Both of you liked each other very much, but weren’t in love. Maybe the time that Deaky said to enjoy was about to be over.

sinners like us (saeran x reader, part v)

also ray route so soon! i’m very excited but also very nervous...
chapter 1 | chapter 2 | chapter 3 | chapter 4
It was rare for you to leave your room on your own.
It wasn’t that you didn’t like to go out, but you’d already explored every nook and cranny of your home only to find nothing really of interest. When you were younger, the maids would occasionally play hide and seek with you. But when your parents found out, they ordered them to stop, saying that a child shouldn’t be interfering with an adult’s work.
“Pardon my intrusion.”
The door to your room quietly creaked open, revealing one of the house maids. You looked up from your desk and watched her, waiting for her to explain the reason why she’d come. If anything, she had probably come to tell you that your parents had signed you up for yet another extracurricular activity. You’d thought that violin and piano lessons would have been enough.
“...yes?”
“...A family has moved in next door,” the maid said quietly. You’d noticed the moving trucks from the window, but you still didn’t understand why she had come to tell you. “...they have a child around your age.”
Your eyes widened. A… child? You felt something warm burst in your chest. A neighbor your age was someone you could befriend. Maybe your parents wouldn’t let the servants play with you, but perhaps they’d be more lenient with a child. Automatically, you rose from your seat and made your way to the door. The maid, with a small smile on her face, stepped to the side, allowing you to run past. You bounded down the stairs and out the front door. When you got to the gate, you promptly unlocked it and ran onto the sidewalk toward the neighbor’s house.
You watched as a bunch of movers carried a myriad of boxes into the house. Where was the child? Your head whipped back and forth as you searched. The maid had never said if they were a boy or a girl, but you figured you’d be able to find them amongst the sea of adults. But you couldn’t seem to find them. Were they maybe inside?
You wondered if you could maybe sneak inside. Your parents would be mad if they found out. But it always felt like they were mad at you anyway; they never let you have any kind of fun.
“Excuse me?”
You jumped at the sound of a voice behind you. Slowly, you turned to find a young girl around your age.
“I… uh…” you tried to think of something to say, suddenly feeling nervous. “I… live next door.”
The girl’s smile brightened at the sound of your words. “Really?! It’s nice to meet you! My name is Eunju Kim!”
She outstretched her hand towards yours and after a moment of hesitation you extended your own hand to meet hers.
“I’m…”
“Mm…”
The dream fades out as you slowly begin to stir. Part of you wants to go back to sleep, but you’ve crossed too much of the conscious threshold to go back now. You blink your eyes open to find Eunju staring at you, an amused smile playing at her lips.
“Good morning, sunshine, or should I maybe say, good afternoon?”
Your face scrunches up a bit, “...what... time is it?”
“One in the afternoon,” she answers, the smile never leaving her face. “You know, you’ve been getting up late these days… is it perhaps because of your recent midnight visits to a certain screamer boy?”
You flush automatically at the mention of Saeran.
Eunju’s smile widens upon seeing your response and you look away from her, feeling even more embarrassed. After you told her that he’s not as bad as the screaming might imply, she’s taken every possible opportunity to tease you. Eunju leans closer toward you and asks, “...did you see him last night too?”
Part of you thinks that, at this point, it should be obvious, given what she just said. Despite that, Eunju merely watches and waits, an expectant look glowing in her eyes. Finally, you nod, “I… did.”
Looking delighted, Eunju follows up with another question, “Did you guys go on another garden date?”
Your face immediately heats up and you sputter, “Th-that wasn’t a date!”
“You don’t think so?”
“No! I just thought it would be a nice place to go since he’s always stuck in that room!”
Eunju raises an eyebrow and you have the feeling that she doesn’t believe you. “Then what did you do last night?”
“I…” you hesitate for the briefest second. You don’t really want to lie to Eunju but you also don’t want to tell her what you’re actually making. They’re supposed to be a surprise. “I was showing him how to make paper stars.”
“Paper wishing stars, huh…” She glances over at the table beside the hospital bed where a few tall jars filled to the brim with hundreds of the colorful stars sit. The both of you had worked on them together, slowly filling jar after jar over the past couple of months. Gingerly, she reaches in one of the jars and pulls out one single star and rolls it between her finger. Then she looks up at you, “...hey, do you have feelings for him?”
You can see where she’s coming from, but at the same time it seems like such an odd thing to ask. “...we haven’t known each other for very long… Plus I can’t even say I know him very well.”
“And since when has either of those things been a requirement for liking people?” Eunju argues in a gentle tone. “Some people click right away. Like how you and I did.”
You recall the dream you had earlier. After that very first introduction, you and Eunju had become the best of friends. And it’s been that way ever since. Acknowledging her point, you nod, though… “I’m not really sure if you can really say he and I clicked…”
“But you keep going back, don’t you?” she points out.
“And? Do you think I like him just because of that?” you frown a little bit.
“It’s just… I’ve never seen you so interested in someone else…” She pauses for a moment, then then adds in a thoughtful tone. “Maybe you don’t have feelings now, but I think that you definitely could if you gave it a shot. He certainly seems like he could be interested in you.”
You almost tell her that that’s not possible, pushing down the memories of the closeness from the night in the garden and the smile from night before. It probably wouldn’t be wise to look to much into his actions and assume his feelings from those, but along with those memories the memory of that fluttery feeling also comes to mind. And if all those love stories Eunju’s shoved your way over the years are any indication those feelings are possibly a prelude to more profound feelings. “I… maybe. It’s still… too early to tell.”
Eunju gives you a satisfied you a satisfied smile, “Maybe… You know, maybe it’d help if you actually went home once in a while and pick out some nicer clothes to wear when you visit!”
“What?!” you exclaim. “I do go home!”
Eunju crosses her arms, giving you a pointed look, “And when was the last time you went home?”
You take a quick second to think about it, “...two days ago.”
“...maybe I should ask the nurses to not let you use the showers so you go home frequently like a normal person.”
“Two days is not that long. Plus, you know as well as I do that I’ve stayed longer! Besides…” you pause to give her a cocky grin. “Who do you think the nurses are going you listen to- you or me, the hospital director’s kid?”
“...you never know, maybe they’ll listen to me; make you go home every night and give your parents some peace of mind.”
You scoff automatically, “I doubt they’re worried; they know where I am.”
Out of the corner of your eye, you can see Eunju frowning with a concerned look in her eye. You know exactly what she wants to say. The two of you have had that conversation countless times over the years. You know where she’s coming from, why she has the opinion that she does. Eunju has a good relationship with her parents while yours is… complicated.
You barely saw them as a child, but they’d make all sorts of demands in regards to your education and extracurriculars without considering your feelings in the slightest. It was terrible, suffocating even. But through some miracle, they allowed you to spend time with Eunju and her family so long as your grades didn’t suffer. And even now you’re grateful for it; Eunju and her parents gave you a place to go when things got too hard or lonely at home and if it weren’t for that you may have turned out much worse off.
“...don’t say that… They’re just… busy, you know?” Eunju tells you in a soothing voice. “...I’m sure they care, they just have their own way of doing it.”
“...I guess,” you mutter bitterly. “...if they didn’t care, they probably would have ignored me completely when I asked if they’d help your family with the cost of you staying here.”
“...yes, and my family and I are eternally grateful for that.”
“It’s the least I could have done… given everything your family has done for me,” you say softly. The only benefit you’ve ever seen from being your father’s child is that it made it easy for Eunju to get access to treatment when she became ill. It was the first time you’d ever begged and pleaded with him for something. You’d like to think that maybe you got through somehow, but there’s a tiny part of you thinks he may have agreed to get you to leave him alone. “Everything is good, right? The room? The food?”
Eunju laughs a little, “Yes, yes, everything is just fine.”
You pout a tiny bit at her nonchalant answer, but you also know she probably wouldn’t tell you anything different. “...well, if you do need anything, please don’t hesitate to ask me.”
She smiles and nods when the both of you hear a knock on the door. A second later it slides open and reveals one of the nurses. She shoots the two of you a smile as she comes in with a tray in hand.
“I’ve brought your lunch!” the nurse says cheerfully, setting the tray down on the overbed table. Then, with a wave she heads back to the door. “I’ll be back to take the tray in about an hour!”
Eunju nods her head and starts to eat. In the meantime, you reach into your bag and fish out a bag filled with strips for making paper stars and busy yourself with making those. After a couple minutes, Eunju starts to finish up so you get up and walk over to the fridge on the other side of the room. You open it and inside is a long row of pudding cups that you bought for Eunju. While they’re not the most healthy treats in the world, the both of you have loved them ever since you were kids. Usually the both of you end up eating one a day. Two if it’s a really bad day.
“Why don’t you give one to Saeran?” Eunju suggests from behind you.
You turn to look at her, “You sure?”
She shrugs, “It’s not like I’m hurting for pudding. Besides, you’re the one who bought them after all.”
You look back at the pudding cups. Somehow, you doubt Saeran’s getting any sweet treats along with his meals outside of fruit. It’s not that fruit is bad, it’s just not the same though… But does he even like pudding? You don’t even know… What if he doesn’t? Would bringing a pudding offend him if he didn’t?
“What’s up?” Eunju asks, interrupting your internal debate.
“...what if he doesn’t like them?”
“What kind of person doesn’t like sweets?” Eunju responds in a matter-of-fact tone. “And on the off chance that he doesn’t, you can just eat it yourself. It’s a win-win, really.”
She has a point. If he likes it, then you’ve done something nice for him and if he doesn’t then you get pudding. You nod a little to yourself deciding that you’ll bring him one later. Then, you grab a pudding for you and Eunju before shutting the fridge. After you hand her one, you take yours back to your chair, popping it open the second you sit down.
You should probably have a proper lunch, but pudding will do for now. Using the tiny spoon that came with the pudding, you take a bite. You don’t know what they put in this pudding but it always tastes so good and before you know it you’re eaten the entire thing. Eunju, on the other hand, seems to be taking her time, she’s about halfway done by the time you finish.
There’s another knock at the door, and you glance in that direction wondering who it is. The door slides open and the person who walks in is Dr. Kwon, Eunju’s doctor. He glances at you first and smiles, “...I shouldn’t be surprised to see you here, should I?”
You bow your head respectfully, “Hello, Dr. Kwon…”
He nods, acknowledging your greeting and turns to Eunju, “And how are you feeling today?”
Eunju puts her spoon down and gives him a smile, “I’m doing well.”
“That’s good.”
He walks a little more into the room and and gives you an expectant look. Realizing that he wants to have a private talk with Eunju you rise from your chair. You shoot her a smile, “I’ll be back later.”
Eunju nods and you give her a small wave, and walk past Dr. Kwon out into the hall, shutting the door behind you. It’d probably be a good time to get lunch or something. You wonder if you should just get something from the hospital cafe or go to one of the nearby restaurants. Both the main entrance and the hospital cafe are in the same direction, so you figure you can think it over as you walk. You’ll pass Saeran’s room too, so maybe you can pop in and say a quick hello. It’d be different to see him during the daytime hours.
But as you start walking you realize that there are a couple people outside of Saeran’s door, one of the nurses and a young man with bright red hair. Too bad. You’ll just have to wait until later to see Saeran. The man talking with the nurse bows a little, looking somewhat apologetic before the nurse says something to him and walks away. You wonder if Saeran was causing problems again. But you didn’t hear screaming so it must have not been too bad.
Hearing your approach, the man turns his head toward you. Now that you can see his face a little better, something about him seems oddly familiar even though you’re fairly sure you’ve never seen him before. Someone like him seems like they’d stand out. You make eye contact and and his expression changes to something akin to recognition. But as you walk past he doesn’t say anything.
At least not at first.
“Excuse me?”
The two of you are the only ones in the hallway now so you’re the only person he can be talking to. You stop and turn around to face him. Now that you’re closer you can see him a little more clearly, and it becomes apparent to you why he looked so familiar.
The hair is different, and the eyes are different, but… this man looks a lot like Saeran.
