I won’t lie your constant exposure to carnivore diet and other things you talked about have intrigued me but I’m currently a poor uni student with no job rn. Do you have any small tips for me on a low budget? I know I should be more specific about the advise but I’m asking as a catch all I guess. Sorry if I’m being a bother
(Sorry for the ramble I get sidetracked easily)
You're not bothering me. To some degree my advice will depend on whether you're a man or woman and what animal products you're willing to include/exclude. The "purest" form of carnivore is only red meat (meat from ruminant animals such as beef, lamb, elk, venison, goat, etc) with no dairy and no eggs. If that's not your style then include whatever you like. HOWEVER. I strongly recommend making fatty red meat the primary food, as well as eggs and butter if you like them and have no allergies. A lot of people think that the trick to keto/carnivore is that it's a low carb and high protein diet, but in fact the key to carnivore is that it is a high fat diet. Fat is the body and brain's optimal fuel source, so make sure you eat a lot of it. Lean meats like poultry and lean beef/pork cuts will not produce good results. If you're a woman, you will likely find that a caloric ratio of about 80% fat to 20% protein will feel the best. It is unclear exactly why women seem to benefit so much from this while men don't see much difference, but this means that women seeking this so-called "high fat carnivore" will have to supplement their meat with extra fat sources such as butter or fat trimmings. Personally, I get beef fat trimmings from a local butcher and cook them with each meal. If you're not a woman you can still do this, but it may not give much benefit over just eating meat normally (although there are male athletes who report that high fat is better for them, so for men it may come down to activity level). My theory for why women thrive more on a higher fat ratio is that large megafauna, most of which are now extinct, likely had a fat-to-muscle ratio that was closer to what the female body needs to support optimal hormonal and reproductive health. In the evolutionary timeline, these animals have not been gone for long and there's no reason to assume our biological processes would have evolved to be fully adapted to their absence yet. That's just my speculation though.
Anyway, for affordability, I think the most obvious answer is to shop the sales on everything and learn to work with cheap cuts of meat. I personally buy my beef by the animal, so I end up with a small handful of the prized cuts such as ribeyes and strip loins, and a whole lot of roasts, ribs, and ground beef. as a university student you do not have the financial bandwidth to do this, so you are stuck searching for the cheaper cuts like chuck, shank, top/bottom round, sirloin tip, as well as ground beef. all of these cuts can make delicious meals, especially if you opt to continue using seasonings (i personally do not, but neither do i begrudge those who are unwilling to give them up). these cuts are leaner, but if you add extra fat (trimmings or butter) then you can still get a good caloric ratio out of it.
if you or anyone you know has a Costco (or equivalent store) membership, you can also buy wholesale primal cuts. upfront cost is a bit high, but the price per pound is significantly cheaper than grocery stores. you can get brisket for like $2/lb at Costco
chicken is generally pretty cheap, especially if you buy the cheaper cuts like drumsticks and thighs. but again, it's very lean so be mindful of that. same goes for pork. also salmon is a really good and fatty option if you like fish.
i also save the melted fat which comes off when I cook beef fat, and reuse that whenever i need cooking oil for a different meal, so i don't burn through store bought tallow/lard or butter.
one of the biggest factors in determining your cost will be whether or not you are fussy about conventional vs pasture raised meat. if you are happy to eat conventional, then your costs will be significantly lower than if you insist on pastured products. as far as the impact on your health, there isn't much information about the difference between the two, i know people who eat conventional and others who eat pastured, they all feel good. for myself, and many people who choose pastured products, it's an ethical decision more than anything.
lastly, again i don't know your financial situation but if you have some wiggle room, you can look into an online butcher such as butcherbox, moink, betterfed, and others. the meat is a bit more wholesale so the price per pound tends to come out much cheaper than buying from a grocery store, however this again, like Costco, has a higher upfront cost.
i hope this information is helpful! let me know if you have any other questions and i'll do my best to answer them (hopefully with less rambling next time).

Quick and easy high protein, low carb breakfast in a bowl
You know those “just add an egg” bowls they sell? We bought a couple and enjoyed them. I also realized how simple they would be to DIY.
I bought some uncased sausage the other day and cooked that up. Put it into a few Ziploc bags. One in the fridge, 2 in the freezer. We also have bacon crumbles from Costco.
Ingredients: A scoop of sausage and/or bacon, a bit of cheese, and 1-2 eggs. Cooking instructions: 1, mix all ingredients in a bowl 2, microwave for a 40 seconds for 1 egg, 60 seconds for 2 eggs 3, mix 4, microwave for same duration as #2 I put a splash of taco sauce on top. Consume! Paper bowl and plastic fork for on the go and no cleanup. (No idea on the macros.)

ad. 👩‍🍳 Check out my new favorite Costco Find! This Don Pancho Cilantro Lime Crema from @donpanchofoods
is freaking delicious! It tastes great on just about Everything! I have 4 bottles that won't last long in our house because it is so good and tastes great on so many different dishes! It's my favorite sauce for tacos, burritos, or any mexican dish. I also like to drizzle it on baked salmon or steak, mix with roasted veggies, spread on sandwich or burger, after-school snacking as dip with carrots and veggies, dollop on top of quiche or breakfast omelet! It even makes a yummy dip for french fries, tater tots, chips or chicken skewers! This delicious, creamy sauce is made with fresh cilantro, lime juice, and sour cream. It's keto-friendly and a healthier salad dressing alternative too because it only has 40 calories and 2 net carbs per serving.

You can find Don Pancho Cilantro Lime Crema in the REFRIGERATED section at @Costco. And, be sure to keep refrigerated at home.

betrayal cookies
I bought these keto cookies with the intention of having Car Snacks for after sport and they are Bad, actually.
(I also got them from Costco so they're not only bad, there's so many of them.)They're sweetened with erythritol and xylitol.
Erythritol "may" cause diarrhoea, bloating and gas. So does xylitol. They also have chickory root fibre, which yeah. Also does. The eryithritol provides an unpleasantly cold mouthfeel.
There's probably some rule that you're only supposed to eat one, because keto people are ridiculous.
But they're TINY, so one doesn't actually fill you up (I guess you just accept that you've had "enough" calories and stay hungry if you're keto?)
(I had three. I didn't go nuts.)
So anyway, eating these leaves you hungry, bloated and shitting your guts out and you can't even taste the macadamia. Also, may poison your dog. 0/10, do not recommend.

Hello beautiful world and welcome to Bio Peak Nutrition’s very first blog post! Allow me to introduce myself: I’m the co-founder of Bio Peak Nutrition, a Canadian start-up that sells artisan high protein energy bites, vegan/gluten-free cookies and keto bombs online.
I will start off by telling you a bit about how my hubby and I got into this business. One day, following our honeymoon in Banff, my husband and I decided that we wanted to start eating healthy and to reduce sugar and eliminate unhealthy foods from our diet. Our decision was a result of having gained a bit of weight from binging on sugar-filled desserts in Banff (you don’t care about what you eat on your honeymoon!). As such, we started looking for alternatives to our usual go-to snacks which contained ingredients such as excessive refined sugar, palm oil, preservatives and ingredients we couldn’t recognize or pronounce.
We tried many different snacks from Costco, looked up snacks online on Amazon but still were not satisfied with the quality of the snacks because they all had a laundry list of ingredients or quite frankly, didn’t taste good (or as my husband likes to put it “they tasted like flavoured cardboard”).
Fed up of our failed search, one day I decided to make energy bites from scratch using ingredients found in our kitchen pantry (I love to bake and cook, thanks to my foodie hubby!). I whipped them up quickly from the fewest quality ingredients such as dates, oats, nuts and agave nectar, and asked my husband to try them. His immediate reaction was “wow these are absolutely delicious!” and he ate the entire batch in one sitting! Thereafter, my husband asked me to make him these bites every day for the next few weeks and then one day came up to me and said “we seriously need to start selling these!”. From that point onward, we started working towards making our dream a reality and Bio Peak Nutrition was born.
So what makes our Terra Bites unique? For starters, they’re absolutely delicious and contain only 4-6 main ingredients. They are predominantly nut based and have ZERO preservatives, no artificial flavours or colours, no palm oil, no trans-fat and are ridiculously delicious. Why not try some for yourself- shop now at biopeaknutrition.ca and let us know what you think!

Started my journey towards a healthier lifestyle today!
I woke up today with the motivation to start making healthier decisions.
I purchased a treadmill to place under my standing desk to help get my steps in while I work. I don’t think I’ve even been getting 1k steps a day due to my WFH job and the summer heat that’s plaguing the city right now. I also purchased a new yoga mat and resistance bands to complete my home gym set up. I can’t wait to make progress towards my cardio and strength training goals.
I achieved drinking 1 gallon of water today! It was quite easier than I anticipated. I noticed that my skin was less itchy and irritated today (prior to this I would get random itchy bumps/hives that would appear on my arms, face, and neck). I also felt like my skin had a slight glow to it and I felt really energized throughout the day! I paced out my drinking by consuming 16 oz every hour. I felt really proud of myself each time I logged another water bottle’s worth into my tracking app.
I also did some light upper body training with 5 lb and 10 lb weights while I watched ‘Dated and Related’. I’ll continue to build on this habit because I was easily able to do 2 hrs of these exercises while watching the show. I also felt better about myself because I was being productive while indulging in my trash reality tv instead of just being a couch potato.
I consumed 1,177 calories today! I listened to my body when it told me it was hungry and made good food decisions by prioritizing protein and veggie intake. Next time I’ll take photos of my meals to document my healthy nourishing creations! I had a tofu wrap for lunch (who knew cold tofu straight out of the package could be so delicious?!) and shrimp tacos for dinner, both made with Keto tortillas and Bitchin’ Sauce (yum!). I didn’t have any meat or cooked with any oil and I think that is why I felt so energized and full without feeling the discomfort of being bloated! I was even able to snack on some yummy guilty pleasure of chips with Boursin cheese and 1/4 of a Costco blueberry muffin for dessert. This diet combined with my water consumption goal is so attainable to do everyday. I can’t wait to see what my results will be at the end of the month!

It wasn't that long ago, even back as recently as 2018, where keto branded snacks were nearly impossible to find. What a time to be alive & to own a @costco membership! https://www.instagram.com/p/ChLxJ5jOtel/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
