Interwoven
Cori Savard
from the website: "Inspired by the intricate beauty of Naaxiin, this print is a celebration of Maat (Mountain Goat). Our people have long recognized the value and quality of Maat’s wool, and have been weaving the finest regalia with it for centuries. By giving its wool, Maat weaves together the lives of the many people involved in the extensive process of creating Naaxiin regalia. Hunters, weavers, bark harvesters, formline artists and dancers alike. The intricacy of the weaving, accomplished by the formidable skill of the artist, pays the highest respect to Maat as great robes, aprons, leggings, headpieces and pouches adorn our people and come to life in sacred ceremony."

Chapter 9
FIRST DAY FESTIVAL TIME :3
TW/CW: Possessive/obsessive Coryo murderous thoughts
Tumblr media
When the train that weaved its way through the districts arrived at D2, Sunni practically leaped off the train and hugged her friends who were waiting at the station for her. The friend group was quite large, comprising of maybe 6 people.
"Cori, Sej, come here, you guys gotta meet my friends!!" She called, waving to the boys as they gathered their own + Sunni's luggage off the train.
Getting a closer look at Sunni's friend group, Coriolanus realized that she had a very mixed group of friends; black, white, desi, indian, boys, girls, androgynous, plus sized, and skinny friends. He didn't think negatively of that fact, though; he thought it was nice to see her have a large and very close group of friends. Most girls back at the Academy just just stick 1 to 3 people, and there'd be one poc at the most.
"Guys, this is Coriolanus Snow and Sejanus!" She introduced stepping to the side, allowing everyone to shake hands. "Cori, Sej, these are my friends Nero Amadeus; he/him, Maxima Benedictus; he/she/they, Nataila Catullus; any and neos, Viktor Dellis; he/it, Vivian Diamandis; she/her, and the twins Dele, & Demitri Chaconas!"
A chorus of hellos and heys and followed Sunnis friends as the boys shook hands and introduced themselves to Sunni's friends.
"So, Sunshine, how's the Capitol?" Maxima asked as the residents of District 2 led the Plinths + Coryo to the hotel where the Academy students would be staying.
"Uh, shiny," Sunni answered. "And there's more douchebags."
"Ha, fuckin' told you Vik!" Demitri interrupted, reaching over to smack Viktor in the back of the head. He simply ducked, snickering as they instead hit Sunni.
"Hey-!!"
"Sorry, Sun, Vik ducked!"
Nataila laughed to herself as Vivian and Dele shared a look that read "they're so childish".
As the group chatted excitedly about plans for the week and caught up, learning about the Capitol as well, Coryo was glaring daggers at one of the males; Nero Amadeus.
Nero had his hands in the pockets of his jacket as he listened to the chatter, smiling as Sunni. He was happy to see her so excited and to be reunited with her friends but Coryo didn't know why and I was determined to get a straight answer out of the brunette or beat it out of him.
Cracking his knuckles and tossed his suitcase, which was actually Sejanus' that he was borrowing (read as stole), onto his bed once the group reached the hotel; all the Academy children were were on the top two floors and Sunni's group had the highest one.
"I don't trust that Amaedus guy," He huffed out to Sejanus.
"What? Nero? Why?" Sej asked, setting his backup suitcase on his bed.
"I dunno- I just get a bad feeling from him," He replied, tearing his hoodie off as he spoke.
"He seems pretty chill—besides, we just met the guy. It might just be your paranoia since this is your first time in 2," Sejanus offered, taking off his sweater and setting it on his bed.
"No, I don't think it's the paranoia. I'd know if it's the paranoia."
"Jealousy?" Coryo almost laughed. Him? Jealous? Over what? A girl that's not his yet?
"Jealousy, Sej? Really? Im not dating her, so why would i be jealous?" He asked, crossing his arms.
"Friends can be jealous. Hell, I thought Sunni would've replaced me after me, dad, and ma moved to the Capitol, buy she still cares just as much after a decade," Sejanus answered, opening the curtains to check our the view.
"That's different, you're family," the blonde snapped, falling back onto his bed. The was comfy; it felt like it was made entirely out of feathers, and it felt way better than his bed at home.
"Yeah, I suppose, but we should trust them. After all, they've been around Sunni longer than either of us, and for the past 10 years, I've only seen her on visits."
Coryo scoffed and rolled his eyes, mumbling whatever. He was going to find out if Nero had a thing for Sunni and if he needed to dispose of him to make sure he didn't get a chance.
But he'd also have to make sure that no one else would find out about how Nero "went missing". He needed Sunni to completely trust him, no matter the cost.
An awkward silence filled the room, only to be disrupted by loud music entering the room. Coryo sat up, glaring at where the music was supposedly coming from; he didn't need a headache before the festival.
"The hell is that?" Sej inquired, coming out of the bathroom, zipping up his fly. Coryo shrugged, and the two left their room, to see what the noise was. Seeing a door was cracked open, they gently pushed the door open and Coryo feel his blood boil.
Nero and Sunni were dancing to some upbeat and chaotic aong, singing along with it as the others were laughing and talking about an itinerary that Sunni made at some point. When did she make an itinerary, Coryo had no idea, but he didn't care right now. All he cared about was separating his girl from some loser nobody.
"So do you guys plan on making everyone else deaf?" Sejanus shouted over the music, grabbing the others' attention.
"Sorry, Sej, this is what we do all the time!" Sunni shouted back, letting go of Nero so he could turn up his hearing aids once the music was off.
"Why?" He yelled back, walking into the room, followed by Coryo, who was glaring daggers at Nero.
"Why not? It's an homage to how we met; loud music," Sunni replied, laughing as Dele turned the music down.
"Yep: we were all at a skate park, testing our skates and boards and we started bonding over some loud music people were playing," Demitri added as Viktor kicked their ass in another round of COD.
"Dude, how do you get so good at Call of Duty?"
"Eh, having divorced parents who always argue make it easy to find time to game," He replied with a shrug.
"So divorced parents equals being a god at Call of Duty?" Nataila teased, grinning.
"I mean, in my case, yeah."
"So then what does having a dead parent equal?" Maxima inquired.
"Art skills," Sunni answered, hopping her happy little butt onto the counter.
Coryo made his way to her as the others gasped and told Sunni she was quote unquote "wrong for that" while trying not to laugh despite Sunni giving them permission to, when Sunni was laughing and laid his head on her shoulder.
She beamed at this sudden "affection," and gently scratched the top of his head.
"Hi, Cori," She whispered to him as the others, including Sejanus, started talking about things they could do for the first day of the festival.
"Hey, Sunshine," He murmured, his breath hot against her neck.
"You okay?" She asked, gently lifting his head to meet his semi-relaxed gaze.
"Just feel better around you," He lied to her. Well, he wasn't really lying, but he couldn't say he was claiming what's his. He couldn't scare her off. He wouldn't scare her off.
"Okay," She replied, smiling and letting him go back to nuzzling her. Fortunately for Coriolanus, Sunni didn't notice the hateful and murderous glare he was sending towards Nero, who was chatting absent-mindly with Maxima.
Tumblr media
Late into the afternoon, once all the Academy students were settled, the group had set off to explore District 2 and everything that had been set up.
Games, of course, for the little kids who had rich families or the Academy kids who had younger siblings or students who wanted to relax and feel like a child again, but also dancing, music, and all sorts of different delicacies. It was so wonderful, filling, and fun that they all felt calm. Even with the occasional dead dad or divorced parents jokes, which Coryo learned were coping methods that Sunni and Viktor used to cope with the loss, everyone felt happy.
But Coryo wasn't happy. People were calling to Sunni, getting hugs and having her full attention. Sejanus, at one point, had to restrain Coryo from committing any more crimes again because a guy hugged Sunni for 2 minutes too long.
Sure, Sunni reassured him and said he was "just a friend," but Coryo had countered with "friend's don't have their hands way too low where they shouldn't be." Which eventually led to Sunni nodding but telling him he didn't need to jealous because they guy was 15 and just really tall. At that point, Coryo let it go and gave in but has held her close to him, not wanting anyone to pull her away from him. As the group walked to another restaurant to check out the place, Sejanus shot Coryo a text wearing a shit eating grin.
Sejanus: Not jealous, hm? You haven't let go of Sunni since we found out about the loud music lmfao
Seen
Coryo rolled his eyes, seeing the text. Of course, he wasn't going to let go of Sunni. People could've turned against her after she was transferred to the Capitol, for God's sake! He had to protect his girl, even from her own friends if he had to.
Then Sejanus sent Coryo another text, but it was a photo of Coryo with his arms around Sunni's waist and holding her small hands in his and he had his head on top of hers.
He smiled a little at the picture and saved it to his phone before putting his phone in his pocket.
He'd make that his lockscreen later.

If you have anything more to share, I'd love to hear more about Veterinarian! Hob treating lord of cats Dream! :)
I can't START this now not for real for real because there's other stuff I want to finish first BUT...
"Are you going to do the morning huddle?"
Hob doesn't lift his head from his desk. He ought to. He knows. It's smart to go over the surgeries every morning -- not least because Cori gets testy if they don't -- and there are doubtless a few pets checking in for admits today, he's fairly certain that one of them needs a glucose curve, and the last time the owner hadn't brought the dog's bloody insulin...
"I'm coming," Hob says, and proceeds not to move at all, his head pounding miserably. Lucienne lingers in the door to his office as the lights of The New Vet are turned on, one by one. He can see the cars pulling into the lot through his window, and feels, to his horror, a weak pulse of anger, followed near immediately by shame. Not allowed, he scolds himself. You aren't allowed to get burnout. Everyone else is tired, too, and look at how hard they're working. They've all got problems, you just need to hike up your pants and deal.
"Guenevere broke up with me," he says, and Lucienne exhales sharply. "Yesterday."
"At the..."
"Yeah, at the bloody Ren Faire."
"Oh, Hob," she says, and Hob raises a hand to forestall the tide of comforting words that are no doubt coming.
"It's fine," he says, even though it really, really isn't. The fucking Ren Faire. When he'd told her how much he hated the things, how inaccurate they are, how if she wanted a real experience she ought to come with him to an SCA meeting, and really, the people of the Shire of Thamesreach are good, do their own weaving and dying and metallurgy, and then Guen had...
Had dumped him. Right there in front of the jousting ring. And Hob's old enough and wise enough to recognize when he's had a hand in his own destruction, but still.
It's been sixteen years since Eleanor passed. Thirteen since Robyn followed her. And he'd been hoping...he'd been hoping that some part of him might be healed enough for some kind of love. Some kind of closeness. But apparently not. The pit in him, where his heart used to be, is still blackened and smoldering as ever. You're just a lot, Guen had told him, her hands fluttering like startled birds. You've got a lot on your mind, all the time, and you've got a lot going on at work, and you've got a lot to worry about, and it just doesn't end, does it? You being a lot? Well, it's too much for me to deal with, Robbie. I can't fix you, and you won't fix yourself, and I'm done being second in someone's life.
And then she'd walked away, and Hob had gone to the Ye Olde Meadehall tent and proceeded to drink nearly his body weight in surprisingly good-quality mead, so much that he'd needed to call a cab home. His car is still parked at the lot. He needs to go and get it today, unless he wants to add a ticket onto the stack of things gone wrong in his life.
Out in the lobby, Thessaly calls out, "Door's open!" And nearly as soon as she speaks, the reception phone begins to trill. Monday at The New Vet. Everyone clamoring to get in on account of the crises that happened over the weekend. Hob gingerly heaves himself off his desk, rubbing the ribbed marks of pens that have pressed into his cheek.
"It's fine," he says again, and Lucienne smiles hesitantly at him. He tries to smile back, and thinks he manages to fall somewhere around 'wan, but willing.' "Really. We weren't...compatible. Anyways. You're assigned to me today, I think?" Lucienne nods, and Hob picks himself up, and cracks his back, and tries to shake away that brief little flash of anger. That horrifically tempting darkness, like a worm nestled tight and cozy in the brain.
It'd be easy to let it eat him alive, he thinks, as he follows his tech into the back of the clinic. It'd be easy to think of this as a job instead of a calling. He's known vets like that, who get into things like ortho surgery for the money and little else. He's not one of them. He won't be one of them. He can't move on from his dead wife and child, and he can't perform surgery without his hands shaking and his heart crawling out of his throat, and he can't stomach the sight of HBCs anymore, but he's. Managing. He's healing. It's taking longer than he'd like, but that's just the way life is. And life is glorious. He's got staff who appreciate him and support him, he's got his own clinic that's bearing its own weight and not sinking him into debt with each passing year, he'd found a competent surgeon to take his place in the OR, and life is grand.
And you're alone, that awful worm in him whispers. Because something in you broke when Eleanor died, and then it broke again when you failed Robyn, and now it can't ever be fixed. You're not worth the time and effort of fixing.
Hob shakes his head. He's alone. So what. He has the clinic. He has his techs. There's always going to be work to do. No shortage of pets in London, and everyone needing their shots, their checkups, their emergency visits.
Life is rich and varied and ever-changing, and if sometimes the only thing keeping him going is thinking about what will happen to The New Vet if he's gone, well. That's not depression, that's just the truth.
"Who's first?" he asks, and lets the chaotic rhythm of the clinic settle into him, and wipe all other thoughts of broken hearts and dead loves from his mind.

some thoughts i’ve had about cori since beginning to level all the crafters
cori already knows how to do a lot of these things, either her mom taught her or she taught herself. her childhood necessitated a lot of self sufficiency!
they joined the culinarian guild when they first came to limsa, because they are a pretty good cook and it was a simple way to support themself early on esp since they were able to gather the ingredients themself
they are not in the weavers or leatherworkers guild but know enough about weaving and leather working to be able to repair their own clothes, and i think they have made their own dresses before but prefer to buy high quality clothes and repair them, rather than make them from scratch.
they’re not in the alchemists guild either but learned how to make enchanted ink so they could make or repair their own grimoires when needed
i wasn’t going to have them canonically in any other crafting guilds besides cul but i’m inexplicably charmed by brithael. he’s funny to me and he likes cori so much. so cori is in the blacksmiths guild.
they are also in the botanists guild bc they love gathering tbh and they pick up mining as a hobby sometime. not sure when but they join the guild. they’re not in the fishers guild but they know how to fish!

Literally the most random Leora headcanons bc it’s her birthday!! You go girl!!
Cis woman, she/it, bisexual
Actually really good at baking, just gets hurt far too often
Tries to teach Elaine and Cory how to bake
Fails
Can’t cook for the life of her
Typically just eats frozen food
Li Ling attempts to teach it how to cook
Fire everywhere
Li Ling decides to just bring bagged lunch everyday she in the office for her
Leora gets him back by giving him baked goods that it has made
Once, on Tang Xuan’s birthday, she tried to make pudding. It wasn’t very good but Xuan appreciated the gesture nonetheless
Mona and Leora just kinda. Stare at each other sometimes
They don’t know what the staring means and don’t ask because they are both uncomfortable around each other
Then Leora challenges Mona to a sparring match and they are on somewhat good terms
Same thing with Lewis. Except they are a bit friendlier beforehand
Afterwards, he asks it if Bonnie is doing well
She tried to explain that she was pretty much cut off from most of the Shadow Decree members but stops halfway and apologizes
It tried to take up knitting (bc of its deity). It wasn’t very good at it
Elaine laughs at her
Learns later from Elaine that its deity is the goddess of weaving
Decides not to try weaving
She does not go on a major mission for a few months after Tabaton
Raven was vvv confused as to how the mayor ended up dead
Leora panicked and said it was a heart attack
Raven doesn’t buy it and she is half put on the Li Ling
On her birthday, she comes back to her apartment, deciding to just reread Red River Love
It flicks on the lights and it is. a mess
Starts panicking
People start popping out of the walls, namely a very disgruntled Elaine and a grinning Cory
Has a quick heart attack
After that, people sing happy birthday, cut a cake that Elaine and Cory made, and give presents or a few kind words
In the late evening, watches a Disney movie with Elaine and Cory

Hello hello i hope you're having a great day! I just finished reading COA yesterday (read it in Ao3 and binged it for 3 days straight), i figured i would finally read them since i was busy when it first came out, and while waiting for tibyim finale. And holy shit it's amazing literally the best fanfiction I've ever read and the longest thing I've read since middle school (attention span got fucked up when i got older). The way you weave your OCs/ reader inserts in stories is absolutely amazing, so amazing in fact i keep forgetting they're not canon. Everytime I would read a chapter, either coa or tibyim, i get motivated to write myself, in fact I have written multiple chapters of my own story because your writing had inspired/ motivated me so much. So thank you do much for sharing your wonderful works with us. Can't wait for the continuation of coa ( no pressure! I will literally wait for however long it takes) and the finale for tibyim. And if you're gonna post your original stories here I will definitely be reading it. Again thank you so much, you have definitely rekindled my love for reading.
Ps: you made me love Santino even though i couldn't care less about him in the movies. You just have that way of making me love characters throughout the story (ie: hector, step and cori too lmao) s/v forever and wanderer/ dream endgame.
Sorry this was so long, i just realized this is like a love letter lmaoo
-🥭
It’s been so fascinating seeing the crossover of some tibyim readers going back to coa. I really appreciate it. In all honesty coa could def use an edit to tighten it up (younger me loooooved to over-describe!!! everything!!! and my writing style is already descriptive) but I love coa lots and don’t worry it’s not cancelled or anything. She’s just taking a nap while I work on other things.
But have I got great news for you!!! You know how you said you love coa OCs? Well guess what that original novel I keep mentioning is about? This entire collab universe im making with a friend? : )
V? Why she’s going to be her own person, with her own arc and agency. Hector, Step, Lucien, Julian, Dario? All going to be major characters working as a team with V, or Clara now. You know how Marvel was too cowardly to give us that 2012 Avengers All Live Together And Are Friends And Do Domestic ThingsTM story we deserved? Well, I’m giving it to you. Do you love deep friendships/relationships? It got that. Do you love a torturously slow burn with heavy doze of sexual tension? It got that. Do you love a dark academia inspired setting, a mystery, power games, and a cast centred around ‘antagonists’? That’s the first novel. Do you enjoy a diverse group of misfits with their own demons all banding together for a heist/rescue/revenge mission? Good old found family and healing? Lovers to enemies? Why that’s the second novel : )

Bite Me | That Bitch Can Eat Her Heart Out
Warnings: 18+, Public (Semi-discrete) sex, toxic possessiveness, p in v, unprotected sex
Cori is already a somewhat jealous person, so when she sees Blaine flirting with Peyton at Human/Zombie Night she makes sure both of them know who he belongs to.
Word Count: 1.2k
Song: Love Bites (So Do I) by Halestorm
Tumblr media
Human/Zombie night has been their busiest night since it was started. So Cori is surprised Blaine has time to stand around talking while she runs around, helping Don E behind the bar.
That's when she notices who he's talking to, acting mayor, little Miss Perfect. AKA Peyton Charles.
She knows that smile he's giving her, and she can see her blushing at it. Cori's blood boils at the sight of them casually flirting and her eyes go red.
"Uh oh," Don E snickers, "I know that look. Someone's gonna die."
Blaine looks back at what he was doing when she goes to join her friends, a pleased smirk on his lips and she seriously considers ripping his throat out.
She doesn't say a word, just sets the glass she was cleaning on the bar and walks toward him.
"I'll just tend the bar myself then?" Don E asks, but she ignores him.
She takes Blaine by the hand once he's in reach and he looks up at her.
"Hey, beautiful," He smiles, looking confused when she tugs his arm, "Something wrong?"
"Just come with me."
He does, weaving through the crowd to the other side of the club, just two booths away from where Liv, Peyton, and Ravi are.
She pushes him onto the leather cushion, into the corner, and moves to straddle his thighs.
"What're you doing, sweetheart?" He asks, lips stretching into a wide grin. His hands find her hips and he tilts his head back when she kisses him.
Her hands slide beneath the collar of his shirt, squeezing and scratching his chest and shoulders.
"Mmm, Cori," He hums against her lips, "Not that I'm not loving the attention, but what brought this-"
The words stick in his throat when she rolls her hips against his.
"Fu-fuck," He murmurs, feeling himself getting harder with every roll of her body against his, "Cori, baby."
He tries to stand, to lift her so he can bring her back to the office to fuck her, but she grips the back of the booth, keeping them there.
His eyebrows furrow when she pulls away and reaches between them.
"Cori!" His eyes go wide at the sound of his zipper being undone.
"Shhh," She leans down and starts kissing down his neck, "Lemme make you feel good, no one'll know."
He lets out a breathy laugh, hands catching her shirt when he runs them up her back.
"W-what's gotten into you?" He hisses when she palms him through his boxers, "Baby... hah- Cori. Hey, hey."
He pulls her hands away and leans back so he can look at her.
"What's going on?" He looks concerned.
She cups his face and kisses him again, "You're mine."
"Of course I am, sweetheart," He assures her, "Is that what this is about?"
"Need you to say it," She pouts against his lips.
"Cor, there's people around."
She notices the way he shifts beneath her, pressing his bulge against her leg.
"Need to hear you say it," She insists, "Blaine, please."
The needy whine in her voice is turning him on like crazy. He wants to make her cry his name in that voice and beg him for more.
"Oh honey," He coos, fingers running through her hair, "Lemme take you back to the office and we can- Shit! Cori!"
He throws his head back when she grinds down hard on him, breath catching when she drags her tongue up his exposed neck.
"You know, you're making it real h-hard to be a gentleman here."
"I don't remember asking you to be a gentleman," She says, "I only want one thing, and it isn't that."
She tugs his boxers down just enough to grip his hard cock, his eyes screwing shut at the slow pump of her fist.
"Say it and you can have me however you want me," She growls.
"H-huh?" He's already forgotten what they were talking about, lost in the feel of her.
"Blaine?"
He yanks her hips forward, fingers delving beneath her skirt. He lets out a pleased groan when he feels how soaked her panties are before pulling them aside.
He tries to hide the moan forcing its way from him against her neck as he slides into her.
"Fuck, baby," He kisses her skin and sighs, "You're gonna get us in trouble, sweetheart."
His head falls back when she starts to move, slowly rolling her hips, pussy fluttering around him.
She looks up at the group a few tables down, but Peyton is too involved in her conversation to notice her glare.
"Feel so good, Cor," Blaine brings her full attention back to him, the way his Adam's apple bounces when he says her name. She picks up the pace slightly and he keens, "Fuck baby, jus like that."
She tangles her fingers in his hair and pulls him up to look at her. His eyes are unfocused and she almost laughs when she realizes.
"Poor thing," She teases, "I've barely even started and he's already pussy drunk."
Something about her taking control turns him to mush, it always has, even before he was a zombie.
It's like when he's looking up at her like this, his adoration comes out in an unstoppable wave of words and touches.
His hands slide under her shirt, feeling her skin against his.
"Love you," He sighs as he presses his lips to her throat, "Need you."
"Tell me you're mine," She whimpers. She grips his shoulders, riding him harder, both of them moaning at the feeling, "Please, Blaine."
"I'm yours, Cori! I'm yours! I-I'm yours!" He whines. He presses his forehead to the base of her throat, mouth falling open with a groan as he cums, "'M yours. 'm all yours. Jesus fuck, Coriander, I'm yours!"
"That's right, baby. All- ah!" She grips his hair tight, and he gasps for air when she clenches around him, her orgasm washing over her. She looks up to meet Peyton's shocked stare, a proud and blissed-out grin spreading across her face, "All mine."
He leans his head back when she lets go, chest heaving as he cranes his neck to see what she was looking at.
"Oh, come on!" He laughs through heavy breaths, "Is that it?"
Cori looks down at him, anger and insecurity flooding her veins.
"Honey," He holds her cheeks and pulls her into a warm kiss, "Sweetheart... Angel."
He smiles up at her, lovesick and amused.
"Are you jealous?" His teasing tone makes her want to cry, "Don't be. She's not the one with my dick in her, is she?"
He kisses her again, just as lovingly as before.
"And you shouldn't have to worry about her going after me again, not after that little show of marking your territory."
When he puts it like that it fills her with embarrassment and she curls in on herself to hide in his arms.
"Aw, no," He laughs, holding her close, "Don't be embarrassed! You're hot when you're possessive."
"Shut up!"
"Maybe I should flirt with more girls if that's what it takes to get you to take charge."
She sits back and hits his shoulder, "Don't you dare!"
He cups her cheek and runs his thumb against her skin.
"Don't worry, sweetheart, I won't," He murmurs, kissing her softly, "I'm all yours."

A TECHNO-HORROR PORTRAIT OF THE FEARS AND DESIRES OF SIX YOUNG ARTISTS WHOSE LIVES ARE UPENDED BY A CONTROVERSIAL VIDEO GAME, FROM NATIONAL BOOK AWARD FINALIST MÓNICA OJEDA.
Six young artists share an apartment in Barcelona: Kiki Ortega, a researcher writing a pornographic novel; Iván Herrera, a writer whose prose reveals a deeply conflicted relationship with his body; three siblings, Irene, Emilio, and Cecilia, who quietly search for ways to transcend their abuse as children; and El Cuco Martínez, a video-game designer whose creations push beneath the substrate of the digital world. All of them are connected in different ways to Nefando, a controversial cult video game whose purpose remains a mystery. In the parallel reality of the game, players found relief from the pain of past trauma and present shame, but also a frighteningly elastic sense of self and ethics. Is Nefando a game for horror enthusiasts, a challenge to players' morals, or a poetic exercise? What happens in a virtual world that admits every taboo?
Unsparing, addictive, and perverse, Nefando takes us to the darkest corners of the web, revealing the inevitable entanglement of digital and physical worlds, and of technology and horror.

Southwest Review, "10 Must-Read Books of 2023"
"Cerebral, sensual and unapologetically scatological, this techno-horror tale is obsessed with ‘the internal conflict between man and beast, intellect and instinct, life and death.’” —Gabino Iglesias, The New York Times
"Ojeda makes a convincing case that it’s not the machines that created the nightmares, but the humans. When we open our laptops, when we stare into our little screens, all that monstrousness we unconsciously fear about ourselves, words and images we worry will remain forever uploaded—all that human terror—looks back at us." —Rhian Sasseen, BOMB Magazine
“Nefando deserves attention for not only the polished craft of Booker and Ojeda, but its insistence on staring directly at genuine horrors—both online and in the real world—and unflinchingly asking why, if we won't tolerate these problems in one space, we allow them to be perpetuated in the other.” —Cory Oldweiler, The Star Tribune
“Ojeda’s work bubbles from this need to write the unspeakable—to write not just of horror, but of the moments of desire, pleasure, or love that might lie within it.” —Anna Learn, Full Stop
"Nefando isn’t for the faint of heart. It confronts the evil, unspeakable aspects of human nature, refusing to turn away its lucid, dissecting gaze.” —Sébastien Luc Butler, Foreword Reviews
“Like the fictitious Nefando itself, this is a work for voyeurs, searchers, escapists, doomscrollers. At times I feared this book, yet I couldn’t put it down. At some point you sense it coming to life, and what began as recreation quickly turns to compulsion. Even at the final page, you fear the book will go on without you.” —Daniel Peña, author of How to Look Away
“In Nefando, Mónica Ojeda compels us to bear witness to the most vicious form of sexuality as it intersects with the perversion of family and the trauma of a broken childhood. The experience of pain goes beyond what can be said, but Ojeda persists in naming it with language as poetic as it is crude. This choral, fragmented novel masterfully reveals and weaves together the darkness of our time.” —Gabriela Ponce, author of Blood Red
