dyslexia friendly comic fonts!
I made some dyslexia-friendly fonts for comics specifically~ They're free to use for whatever you want, but if anyone wants to give me a tip, that would be much appreciated <3 (i'm disabled and cant work, but can't stomach the thought keeping them behind a paywall, just cause they're so desperately needed)
(im not a pro at font making, so there might be kerning issues, but they work well for me~)
You can get them on my ko-fi!

a tutorial-adjacent thing about how i make comics
this is just a general guide on how i personally do things, and i'm gonna keep it pretty simple. let's get into it!
for this tutorial i'm gonna be drawing some trainers trying to find a particular pokémon.
Tumblr media
i'm gonna jump ahead a little here and show my finished sketch for the full page, so we can see the end goal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the best advice i have is to treat panels as part of the composition. make them work for you. reading a bunch of comics will help inspire you--there are so many creative things you can do with panels.
next, placing dialogue bubbles! these are a bit more complex than they seem at first glance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
once you've got all that sorted, you can move onto the fun stuff, like lining and coloring. keep in mind that you can partially cover dialogue bubbles, break panel lines, etc. do whatever gets your message across. like so:
Tumblr media
you can also apply these guidelines to much simpler comics, too. really, flow is the most important thing, in my opinion. it's like a line of action when you're drawing poses. here's a comic i did that's basically just talking heads, but the bubbles and art still flow together to draw the reader's eye along a path. here's a jokey little scribble comic that does something similar. making a good comic is not about polish at all. it's more about readability, composition, and making your dialogue and art work together.
scott mccloud's book making comics has a lot more useful information than what i can fit on one post. it's been a hot minute since i read it (and by that i mean like. twelve years) but it's a solid resource. you can also just read comics or webcomics that you like and see how those illustrators do it. one of my personal favorites is cucumber quest. it starts off very simple, but by chapter 3 (especially near the end) the artwork, panel choices, effects, etc all work together to make every page a stunning work of art.
anyway, as always please feel free to reach out if there's any part of this that you'd like elaborated on, clarified, if you just have questions, etc. i'm not a teacher by any stretch of the imagination but i love helping people with this sort of thing, so please don't hesitate!
[this post is for @tanlotts <3]

Chaos! HOW DO YOU MAKE COMICS!
asking for a friend... totally not making a comic
👀👀
My ways are unorthodox and probably wrong so idk man
the way I do it is first is I type out a rough draft (Using my last comic as an example)
Tumblr media
a lot of things end up changing, like Tim's Mom's name
Tumblr media
I start out sketching the characters and then the lines, I try to get them to fit in, definitely draw in the text, drawing characters first sometimes keeps the text from fitting in
Next I draw the divider thingies
Tumblr media
Then I line characters on one or two layers depending on if they touch (You should get backgrounds down first, not like me lol)
Tumblr media
then on another layer I do the faces and text, I put the faces on another layer because I end up editing them so much it's easier then editing the entire face when I want to erase a small bit (It's probably a better idea to line the text earlier)
Tumblr media
I do the lines I plan on coloring on another layer (Like the eyes, backpack details, and those people back there)
Tumblr media
Next, I get the base color for the whole canvas, not everyone does this but I like darker colors, it's a bit easier on the eyes to me
Tumblr media
Then ofc I color
Tumblr media
Then I do the background colors, I like the colors to reflect the mood a bit, I also color the background details I also do a little bubble for the text so it's easier to read
Tumblr media
And that's about it, there are probably easier ways to do this, I did not look into comic making a lot before I started making mine
This turned real long, I didn't really think to breakdown how I make comics, but yah, this is how I do it

You're making an amazing cake comics! It was awhile since I was so exited to see UT comics update! I like your Chara a lot!
Thank you 💖
Tumblr media
It’s a bit surreal having read UT comics when I was a teenager and now I’m full on making them myself. (Almost reaching the 2 year mark and I’m-🗿👁️💀)
But It’s been a wonderful experience being able to practice on this comic guinea-pig of mine. I’ve learned so much

Lil comic-making tip because it's a mistake i see all the time amongst new comic artists:
If you need to add numbers or arrows for readers to understand what order to read the text in, consider a different, better layout altogether!
Layouts are super important and can 100% make or break the legibility of your comic. No one wants to have to stop and think about how to read your comic!
Text in your comic should ALWAYS be read top to bottom, left to right (in languages where that's usually the case, of course).
Messing with that order lessens the impact of your words, because the brain has to stop for a minute and think about how to read it, instead of it being second nature.
Of course, you can choose to intentionally break these rules as an artistic choice, but it HAS to be deliberate. Learn the rules before breaking them!

The first concept comic for Cherry's story! Only some of the details are still canon, but the overarching plot and themes are the same. Except the comedy. the comedy will be minimal.

:) as you all know I'm slowly working on my comic! It's a long one so it's going to take a good while 😅
My goal this year is to make at least 200 pages more of it? (Possibly)
At the moment though I got caught up against an issue with text in the comic that I'm fixing for the existing pages. The text doesn't print well 😕 and I have to rewrite all the speech bubbles... in TWO languages so double the work ^^"
BUT let's be positive. I CAN go back and review the text I wrote and maybe make it better. This will slow down the 200 pages goal but I'll be happy if I even make 100 more not gonna lie.
And that's it ^^ have a page sneak peek there! 💙 Obnubilar will happen at some point 👉👈 you can read the 50 trial pages in pdf in my portfolio website!
Or directly READ here: HERE

I’ve not talked about this here at ALL I think….
I’ve been working on a 160 page graphic novel for the past 2 years! 😂
The Story happens in a fantasy city called Lyos, and we follow Vegus Vespríus. A badass thief with dwarfism. He steals a magic chalice and gets chased around the city for it. And It’s all in Icelandic, so maybe not super accessible. 😅 But I’m so in love with it and the character, so I really wanted to talk about it anyway!
I got this gig by being a fan of the author. He wrote like 4 books that happen in this city, I fell in love with it and specifically this little thief. So I wrote him a fan letter, we got talking and now THIS IS HAPPENING.
It’s been a rollercoaster and a great learning experience.😄
Im hoping to be able to finish it this year!
Anyway, just a little personal art here, thanks for checking it out!😘
