I made myself cry about Comic Five the other night because I was talking about how very similar and different Show Five and Comic Five are, specifically how they ended up in the apocalypse... ;;
Show Five, he was provoked by Reginald on purpose... Yes, Five was a young boy, but Reginald filled him with a need to prove himself and seek approval, so when Reginald smacked him down too hard it pushed buttons within Five to prove to his father he was worthy, he could do it, he was ready, and he wanted to prove to his father he was wrong about him. It was all very manipulative from the start...
With Comics, it's somewhat the same, but so very different... Comics time jumped to prove the same thing, but also because he wanted to be free... Comics was tired of the abuse, all the constant training, all the rules, and being made to feel inferior and small...
While Show Five's life crashed all around him instantly and he felt great despair and regret immediately... Comics felt free and had his first taste of real true freedom...
He zipped around, he played with toys, he ate junk food he could find, and when he found Dolores he pretended to tie her up and rescue her from a Savage teddy bear and chopped it's head off with a sword he found to pretend to be her knight in shining armor... He truly felt free to be an actual kid...
For a few days, Comics was genuinely giddy with happiness until the moment he realized he was stuck, all alone, surrounded by corpses, deeply missed his siblings, and then spent the next 40 years of his life to try to get back home to his family only to be forcefully ripped from the time stream by the Temps and have awful surgeries performed on him without his consent to force him to be a weapon for their own personal gain...
Both of their stories are deeply tragic and they were both very young when tragedy struck them...
But what gets me is Comics was really just a small child that wanted freedom and to play with toys and have fun... And that fucks me up sometimes...

one thing that will always be funny to me about batfam is that jason is forever convinced that dick is bruce's favorite child while all of his siblings know for sure that bruce's favorite child is actually jason
some random reporter: who's your favorite child?
bruce: how DARE YOU imply that i play favorites, i love ALL of my children equally
dick, without missing a bit: oh he absolutely plays favorites, it was jason
tim: rest in peace
