With the 5 of cups, it feels like for the longest time you were struggling in your career. This does not necessarily mean that there was no progress, but it was not emotionally fulfilling for you. This could also talk about a lack-mindset in terms of your career, i.e., not feeling worthy of it or not seeing a future with it. Some of you might feel like an imposter in your current position. I feel like you were once very passionate about your current career but fell out of love with it because you were overworking yourself too much, nearly burning out. Something significant will happen that will indicate the end of one cycle and ring in a new one of abundance and emotional fulfillment. You will experience a lot of success in your career, which will bring you lots of abundance. There is a sense of alignment and harmony. This most likely refers to your mindset. I feel like you are going to check yourself, and seek out an environment that fulfills you. Implementing the changes that need to be made to end this cycle of adversity and struggle. This is truly a positive spread, especially with the devil reversed ending this. You will step into self-empowerment. There is a sense of breaking free from things (be they people, situations, or mindsets) that held you prisoner. I see you freeing yourself from this hustling mindset and stepping into a deeper understanding of your wants and needs. A wild “fuck” appears in the English language

Fuck reveals itself in the 1400s—literally, as the word is used in a code in which each letter is the one behind the actual letter. The poem, composed in 1475 in a kind of English-Latin hybrid, takes on certain friars of questionable chastity who “non sunt in coeli”—aren’t in heaven—because they “gxddbov xxkxzt pg ifmk.” What looks like gibberish actually means “they fuck wives of Ely.”

Work out the gxddbov and you hit two obscurities. The x is for u despite our sense that v and w intervene between them because, first, u and v were considered the same—good Roman inscriptionese was JVLIVS Caesar and that sense of u took a while to fade. Then, w was written as “uu” and wasn’t considered a separate business. So, v and w didn’t yet exist, and hence before x came u. As such, at the end of gxddbov, if u and v are the same, then v is not after the u but is a u, which as always comes after t. If you take each letter one step back in the alphabet of the time, “gxddbov” emerges as fuccant—“they fuck”!

The coded fuccant is the earliest example we have of someone expressing our little word, but earlier than this are usages of fuck in personal names, vivid attestations that people certainly knew the word. Another century back, in 1310, Roger Fuckbythenavel is less of a surprise than he may have been otherwise. He is listed in court records, and whether that qualified as a surname or nickname for being a scamp is less the issue than that it was used at all. And Roger wasn’t alone. A few decades before, in the late 1200s, we find ordinary citizens such as Henry Fuckbeggar and Simon Fuckbutter, and not as scrawls in privy stalls: Mr. Fuckbeggar was in Edward I’s retinue. This was an England in which one could take a stroll down Gropecunt Lane reminiscing fondly about lunches al fresco in Fuckinggrove. One of the things that would most throw us as time travelers to the Middle Ages would be how casually people of all strata used words for sex, excretion, and the body parts involved. Again, in this era one talked nervously around matters of God—what was up there, not down there.

Fuckbeggar did have an alternate name, Bute-vilein, meaning “hit-churl,” as in “churl-hitter” in the same way as a pickpocket is someone who picks a pocket—here, someone who would hit a humble guy. But the explanation strains for Fuckbythenavel. Sure, of late one may refer to “hitting that” as a way of referring to the conjugal act. But when it’s about the belly button, and what it sits directly north of, isn’t our meaning of fuck both more likely and more representative of the wit that undergirds the human spirit?

Mr. Fuckbutter was indeed a dairyman, but while we might think of butter churning as a kind of hitting, let’s face it, the physical parallel with you-know-what is rather precise. Not only that, at the time these names were committed to paper, we also find our first attestations of the bird called a windfucker. More interesting is that windfuckers are the kind of bird that mount the wind and sail upon it.

What about John the Fucker, who technically gives us our very first fuck, in 1278? Well, he was John le Fucker, and the French angle puts him out of the running. His name resembled our fuck only accidentally, being but one of many possible outcomes of a common French name of the period that started as Fulchier and Fulker; there were Fulchers as far back as Old English before the Norman conquest.

Full moon in Gemini

The Gemini Full Moon falls into my fourth house. I take a flight home, my second full moon flight home of the year. My IC, or immune coeli (lowest point in Latin), sits at 25 degrees Gemini. This is the deepest, darkest point in astrology; the most personal point. It is the part of a person only witnessed by their nearest and dearest. I’ve found this point to be reflected at me as bright as the full moon itself this past week.

“You have zero dumb bitch energy,” the girls in my improv team tell me, the ones whom I’ve probably spent the most time with in Chicago. It’s a Chicago-style compliment, one that doesn’t state a positive, only writes off a negative, while maintaining a certain level of snark.

I’ve started studying Cosmic Time to see that synchronicity is truly divine. My hall of mirrors mind maintains meaning making but my heart is growing in both love and humor, knowing meaning is yet another mechanical paradigm.

To have the IC in Gemini, is to be constantly curious and wondering about the somewhere that you’re not. I wanted the city because I thought the greatest minds would be there but they’re not. They’re not moving nor thinking fast enough while the city rots. It’s funny to see social justice torn apart by the mainstream. I no longer wonder why true knowledge is so hidden.

At home in California, I almost wonder, why did I trudge through Chicago so long when it is so much easier here? But then I quickly pick up the old ways of the family though my highest goal is change. My family home is a place I’m safe from the world but in danger of the same.

FFXIV WoL questions (still accepting!)

1. Why did they pick their first class/job? What about the job they main now?

Coeli Qoet: Started off as a lancer because her mother fought with a spear before leaving the forest with her father. A chance encounter in Coerthas set her on the road to becoming the Azure Dragoon, a title she has attempted to set aside - the events of Shadowbringers lead her to pick up Reaper, as she hopes to bring some sort of harmony between the Void and the rest of the shards.

Ernaswys Lubbloefwyn first learned to fight in the Marauder's Guild (her mother and oldest sister are Yellowjackets), but didn't get far before they kicked her out. She sort of tripped into joining the Rogues instead, and no one's really sorted out the wild series of events that led to her becoming a ninja; no one's quite certain how a seven-foot-tall Sea Wolf in bright pink sparkly clothing who bursts into tears if she experiences any emotion stronger than a 6 qualifies as a ninja, but she's got the knives and can perform the mudras, so no one's looking at it too closely, either.

Ibakha Dotharl is a warrior of the Steppe, and has wielded her axe since she was strong enough to carry it. If you ask her, she's been wielding an axe since before she was born, and has in fact done so for several lifetimes.To watch her fight, it's easy to believe it.

Tajna Ratyasch prefers to fight from a distance, but has no gift for manipulating aether - so she started out as an archer, but when the guildmaster tried to point her toward becoming a bard, Tajna proved too shy to sing. She tried picking up a machinist's flintlock, but didn't care for the loud noises, and the manufactory's sights and smells were a little daunting. She returned to Limsa in disgrace, but happened to sit in on a performance by dancers from Radz-at-Han, and one thing led to another. Where she found herself too shy to sing, Tajna has found she has no such difficulty when it comes to dance, and her size and strength translates to grace with surprising ease.

Furan Banjo joined the Rogues honestly, and worked as one of them for several years before a traveling group of bumbling adventurers caught their attention - Banjo decided to travel with them, just to see what trouble they could get into along the way. They've dabbled in a little bit of everything, but they always come back to the stabbers; they know what they like.

Bjarni Iryut just likes swords, and a gunblade is sort of like a sword, with the added bonus of "I don't have to keep track of where I put my shield yesterday."

[I don't currently have a "why" for Sleeping Smile being a RDM that isn't just "I'm gay," and Silent Fox likes to be a healer because she likes holding people's lives in her hands, that's all.]

13. What are their speech patterns like? more formal or informal?

Coeli: Sometimes overly formal. She's getting much better about that as of Shadowbringers; earlier on in the story, she can be borderline insufferable - part of this is trying to mask growing up in Limsa Lominsa, but most of it is just... Coeli. Ernaswys: Bubbly, informal, very Lominsan. Routinely swears in front of the leaders of nations. Prone to nicknames, prone to saying whatever's in her head, no matter how little sense it may make at the time. Ibakha: A bit stiff; Eorzean is a second language to her, and the Echo makes it even stranger. She tends to always be shouting. Not the best diplomat. Tajna: Quiet, a little halting. Tends to phrase things as a question because she isn't confident enough to try to push things on her own. Repeats things for clarification. Banjo: Doesn't talk much, prefers to watch and listen, only injecting suggestions when they think it'll be funny. Heavy Lominsan accent when they do speak, a little garbled. Bjarni: Also doesn't talk much; usually lets his twin do the talking, which is probably the worst thing he could possibly do. Smile: Very crisply polite, not quite as formal as her teammate, Coeli, but very to-the-point. Doesn't like small talk, prefers to get the job done and reap the rewards. Silent Fox: As the name suggests, she's quiet, but her words are always barbed. She can play a politician's game, though, and (along with her teammate, Rusted Knife) is usually more than capable of handling the more public elements of being a Warrior of Light (moreso than Erna or Ibakha, anyway).
