— As much as pet names make his heart soar, he melts when you call him by his first name. The tender way your lips form around each syllable as if his name was something so dear to you. It makes his stomach flip every time you utter it. Kyojuro. Kyojuro. Kyojuro~ nothing sets his heart ablaze quite like your adoring voice echoing his name back to him.

— He’s Rengoku to most that know him, big brother to Senjuro, but to you he’s just Kyojuro. Your Kyojuro.

— However, there are some pet names that get those butterflies going: my love, honey, baby—something about being called baby makes him soften visibly. He gets that wet smile on his face and big eyes that say, Yes that’s me.

— He really really likes it when you call him “husband” there’s something so domestic and coy about it that makes his heart flutter.

“Husbanddd, I require your assistance!” You often shout to him from the other room when you need help with something, and whether it’s simply a dish from a high shelf or a piece of furniture that needs to be moved, he pops his head into the room with an enthusiastic “Yes, wife!?”

(He especially likes it if you aren’t married yet, so when you teasingly call him “husband” it sounds like a promise.)

— Kyojuro has a multitude of pet names for you! He thinks your name is beautiful but he only calls you it when he’s feeling serious. Prepare to adopt second names by the day.

— Names such as: my love, my flame, my heart’s fire, darling flame, my heart.

— And if he’s feeling particularly syrupy? He'll sing out names like sunflower and sunshine. cus you’re the ever-glimmering light of his life 🥺

— Everything that comes out of this man’s mouth sounds like a declaration of love.

— Another one he’s fond of is little flame.

“I’m not so little!“ you’d proclaim, making a face as he pats your head affectionately.

“Compared to me you are!” he’d laugh with his whole chest, teeth showing as he tosses his head back in glee.

— And even if you’re taller than him (which I’m sure he’d find incredibly enchanting, being able to rest his head on your shoulder and standing on his tippy toes to kiss you) you’re still his cute little flame.

𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐉𝐈𝐑𝐎 𝐊𝐀𝐌𝐀𝐃𝐎

— He’s pure as they come when it comes to romance; shy but loyal to a fault! Tanjiro is a little clueless on how to go about the whole relationship business being so sheltered, all of his knowledge of courting rituals and such he observed from his parents (and they weren’t around very long to teach him 💀)

— Tanjiro honestly loves to call you by your name. He thinks it’s pretty and suits you perfectly. It took a great deal of conditioning to convince him it was alright to call you by your first name. To call you by your first name feels like an honor, so naturally, he’d want to utter it as often as you’d allow.

— You can’t help but love the way he almost whispers it like a precious secret between you. His gentle voice always takes on an adoring quality when he says your name, every syllable honeyed and reverent.

— Tanjiro’s pet names are sickeningly sweet things like: sweetheart, flower, beautiful, and petal.

Nothing better than waking up to his kind gaze already trained on you, a muttered “good morning, beautiful.” against your temple as you’re still stirring from sleep. He gets that lovesick puppy look on his face when you reply with, “good morning to you too, handsome.”

— Tanjiro would let you call him anything you wanted, no matter how silly. You can’t go wrong with a cute shortening of his name like Tanji or a simple “my love” if you’re feeling sappy—and with such a loving partner as Tanjiro, wouldn’t you? He loves you so passionately it’s hard not to let the syrupy pet names fall like rain when he looks at you like that.

— His favorite though? Honey. Something about it just makes his brain turn to mush, he’d do anything for you when you call him that.

“Tanjiro honey, the bathroom door’s stuck shut again!” You’d holler, bouncing a fussing child with one hand and trying to pry the stubborn door open with the other.

He’s at your side in seconds, wrenching the door open with considerable force. You sigh in relief, smiling when you feel his lips against your cheek, and watch as he shushes your child by simply stroking a thumb over their forehead.

“Thank you, honey,” you sighed, planting your own kiss to your husband’s cheek. He only beams, holding the door open for you and scooping your child into his own arms to let you have some much-needed alone time.

𝐙𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐒𝐔 𝐀𝐆𝐀𝐓𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐀

— I think it’s pretty obvious that Zenitsu is an avid pet name enjoyer, both giving and receiving!

— He struggles not to shorten your name or replace it entirely with sugary pet names before you’re even official. And once you are irrevocably his? Prepare to forget your real name because you’ll never hear it from him again. Y/n? Who’s that?

— Your new names include: dearest, my love, sweetie, angel, peach blossom, sugar, honey—the list goes on and on!

— His pet names only get sillier and sappier, but you’ll never have a dull moment with him that’s for sure. Zenitsu also uses the silly ones to make you laugh and can you blame him? It's his favorite sound <3

— Zenitsu doesn’t expect you to pick up his habit and start calling him your own sweet names.

— The first time you called him sweetheart his head whipped around so fast, eyes sparkling as he looked left and right, pointing to himself to ensure you were speaking to him. And when you nod he nearly bursts into joyous tears, fists clinging onto your kimono. It’s the first time he’d been given a sweet name, he can’t help blubbering his approval into your clothes.

— Zenitsu turns to mush before your eyes for any pet names, but his personal favorites to be called are: sweetheart (he melts every time), my love, my heart, and baby—that name in particular makes him get all misty-eyed and following after you like a puppy (another name I HIGHLY recommend calling him)

— Definitely soft for being called “husband.” it reminds him that he’s found someone that isn’t going to give up on him. No matter how many times he cries or falters; you’ll always be right there by his side. And then of course being married is his ultimate fantasy, so he can’t help but puff up with pride when you refer to him as your husband.

I started hurting myself a few years ago and now I didn‘t do it since Easter Holidays and the scars are still there and I‘m actually very close to relapsing so I thought you could eventually do a Tanjiro x Reader headcanon on how he‘d react to his gf doing that to herself and what he‘d do now that he knows

Ngl, first thing that comes to mind is: he’d be a lil clueless as to what to do/how to react

My pet peeve (which, I realize SH is a personal experience and don’t mean to assume/project onto anyone else’s experiences) when it comes to SH is ppl overreacting (yes I’m hurting; no don’t treat me ~too differently), but ofc, underreacting certainly doesn’t feel particularly supportive or loving either

And I think Tanjirou would be intuitively aware of this (the tentative balance between showing concern vs becoming overwhelming), and thus panic inwardly: Do I hug them? Should I ask questions? How can I help? Is it even my place to help?

All the while you’re staring at your palms (for the sake of imagery/setting: how about your bedroom? there’s something intimate and genuine about sitting crossed legged—facing each other—toward the edge of your bed, Tanjirou grappling w/ his words as you avoid eye contact), unsure whether you’d rather he say something or nothing

“Thank you for telling me,” he finally murmurs, eyes soft and glistening, voice strained yet steady — disappointed but adoring

“I just thought you’d want to know,” you mumble quietly, stare sharpening, attempting to drill holes through your trembling fingers, hyper aware of his searching, caring gaze

“I want to know everything about you,” he admits, fondness creeping onto the tip of his tongue

And you promised yourself you wouldn’t cry, but the trust and fragility in the hesitant way his fingertips dig into his thighs has your eyes glistening too

“You can touch me, you know?” you whisper, space between you wavering, his fingertips pausing, calloused thumb reaching for the damp splotches on your palms, smearing your fear with a practiced reassurance

Are we okay? Do you hate me? Can you love me as I am? tangled roots grown over days, months, years; of loathing, of proving yourself To whom?, of a sticky, familiar dread

“You don’t want to touch me?” you hadn’t intended to verbalize the worst case scenario etched in your skin, but confession brought as much relief as it brought a condescending urgency to lose yourself to the infinite noise of What if Tanjirou’s lying?

He frowns at that, harsh, “No!” puncturing your cushion of deprecation, “I want to touch you!” blushing despite himself, “I want to touch all of you,” scooting over until his knee bumps against yours, “I cherish you.”

Because even though he’s still figuring out how to perfectly communicate the scribbles—the insatiable desire, need to make you believe—clinging to the back of his throat, he wants you to know

Wants you to know how deeply, indisputably, he believes in you

He knows believing isn’t enough: knows pretty words and prettier gestures can’t replace uprooting, well, the root of the problem — knows he isn’t qualified to help you

But he can support you, encourage and listen to you, dispel the creases in your loneliness

TL;DR? I hate romanticizing SH, but I also strongly hc that Tanjirou would have comforting ~instincts

100% the type to overthink his immediate reaction, but you can just feel that he means well

Lets you take the lead, all the while offering his hand, his head, his heart

Physical proximity? Researching therapists/educating himself to better understand SH? Floating further than you could possibly return safely from; needing someone to remind you of what’s real?

CHILUMI (CHILDE X LUMINE - GENSHIN IMPACT)

This ship gets way too much hate, most ppl saying it's pedophilia but lumine and aethers ages are confirmed to be over 500 years if it were pedophilia i think Childe would be the victim lmfao. They are literally so cute they have the enemies to lovers cliché which is basic but I love it. This ship is also so good for angsty fanarts and fics.

XIAOVEN (XIAO X VENTI - GENSHIN IMPACT)

To be fair I haven't been indulging in this ship in a while but it's gotta be my favorite Venti or Xiao ship. This ship is also extremely viable with angst. This is ship is so innocent too I love it 💕

RENGA (REKI X LANGA - SK8 THE INFINITY)

Im pretty sure the ENTIRE sk8 fandom ships this lmao. They're just perfect for each other. They complete each other. Gay skater boys what more could i say

IZUOCHA (IZUKU X OCHACO - MY HERO ACADEMIA)

Well they're canon so like i gotta ship it. Deku's flustered moments are so amusing to watch imo. I literally rewatch everytime uraraka gets jealous bc deku is literally surrounded by other girls for no reason. They're friendship is also adorable i might even be ok if they didn't up being confirmed canon relationship.

BAKUDEKU (KATSUKI X IZUKU - MY HERO ACADEMIA)

In comes the toxicity??? Idk I'm still kinda new to the BnHA fandom but ik the fandom is super toxic abt bkdk vs izuocha or just ships in general. But how could I NOT ship this??? As a multishipper i feel obligated to ship anything that works and is cute. I don't even know which deku ship i like better, it's the same as how i can't choose who my favorite character is (bakugo or todoroki??) But yeah bkdk dynamic is like friends to enemies to friends to lovers or something even more complicated lmao. Idk why but I see a lot of fics and edits that are like angsty?? Like deku likes kacchan but kacchan likes Kiri (｡•́︿•̀｡) or baku likes deku but deku is looking at uraraka (ᗒᗩᗕ)

XIAOLUMI (XIAO X LUMINE - GENSHIN IMPACT)

Tbh this isn't rlly an OTP anymore but it used to be. Like a year ago. The ship is still super cute tho Xiao is protective but not in a possessive way like Childe whos a possessive yandere and will personally chop you into pieces if you so much as look at her for a second too long... Why am I making this abt chilumi now NO. The traveler is the only one Xiao opens up to which is cute, traveler is the only "mortal" he responds to.

TODOMOMO (SHOTO X MOMO - MY HERO ACADEMIA)

Idk they're just cute yk. They have the rich power couple vibes, they both got into UA through recommendations. They are literally each other's biggest fans and of all todoroki or yaomomo ships this makes the most sense.

GIYUSHINO (GIYU X SHINOBU - DEMON SLAYER)

Not really an OTP but they are cute. I think I might ship it more if i didn't know how things end up with shinobu. It's cute when shinobu teases tomioka and tomioka is just so clueless abt everything i love giyu i ship giyu x me /j

TANKANA (TANJIRO X KANAO - DEMON SLAYER)

There isn't that much canon content fueling this ship but I always have the fanarts which make me ship everything even more... i didn't finish the manga but I do know that it's implied that they end up together and have grandchildren, but that last episode from season one Kanao was totally feeling something prove me wrong. Kanao reminds me of myself.. docile :(

Also do ppl actually ship tanjiro with rengoku that's kinda... Pedophilia and weird even if it wasn't....

XINGYUN (XINGQIU X CHONGYUN - GENSHIN IMPACT)

They are so babie. They have such a cute friendship that im ok with a romantic or platonic ship between them. They are undoubtedly the cutest most innocent ship in genshin if you ignore the fanarts about yandere Xingqiu hahaha....ha...

Are They Even Human?

kny one-shot | tanjiro-centric | slight manga spoilers for Inosuke's backstory | some minor ocs (Tanjiro's grandparents, Zenitsu's parents)

People called Tanjiro many things when he was younger.

His family adored him. They called him 'amazing' and 'the best big brother in the world'. Those words would always make his heart soar and his eyes smile.

The people in the village thought he was weird. The children would walk up to him on his coal-selling trips in the village and call him names.

They'd say;

"You're too boring"

"Your scar is weird"

"You're too obsessed with your family"

"Creepy"

"A human dog"

"Your eyes look unnatural"

"Boring"

He didn't mind. They were all clueless kids who never knew of the joy of being able to put food on their family's plates. If he was anyone else, he'd call them slackers. But Tanjiro wasn't like that, he was someone who loved humans. He was filled to the brim with empathy and compassion.

Still, he couldn't ever shake off the pit in his stomach whenever a kid pointed at him and laughed when he walked past them.

He knew he could never tell anyone in the village about his ability. He couldn't tell his family either, what if they thought he was weird too?

So he stayed quiet.

But the thing was, Tanjiro was way less normal than what met the eye. His eyes could see the dead.

Tanjiro wouldn't necessarily call what he saw spirits. No, what he saw was the regrets of humanity in a sentient form. They didn't have smells either. There was no way he could compare them to humans. Not when the people he saw were so full of life. Not when 'human' included all his little siblings and his mother. There was no way.

The first one he saw was his grandfather. One moment, the old man lay gasping for breath on his death bed. His hands intertwined with his wife's, the light behind his eyes fading as his fingers went limp. Then another, he was standing next to Tanjiro.

He tapped on his mother's arm.

"Why are you crying?"

She wiped the trails of tears of her cheeks, "Tanjiro, ...he's...not gonna wake up"

Tanjiro tilted his head.

"But he's right there," He said, gesturing to his grandfather beside him.

Tears pooled up in her eyes as she pulled him into a hug. Tanjiro didn't understand. Why was she so sad? This was all a huge joke right? He was right there!

Tanjiro ripped himself out of his mother's arms and grabbed onto his grandfather's hand.

His fingers grasped thin air.

Tanjiro started noticing them more after that. He noticed how some people looked a little too pale. How someone could be crying on the side of a road but there tears never pooled up on the ground. The way some people walked through solid walls and floated a little above the ground.

He also noticed how some people would have ghostly pale figures following them.

His grandfather never left his wife's side, whenever Tanjiro hugged her he had to try his best not to look into the old man's eyes. Luckily, she barely visited and isolated herself in her own home until she died of despair. With her left her husband.

He was not prepared for his father's death. Sure, Tanjuro Kamado was a sick man and he was getting worse everyday but actually seeing him on his death bed was a whole other thing.

As his siblings cried, he dreaded what he'd see when he looked anywhere other than the floor.

He looked up, praying that he'd see only one of his father. Tanjiro's gaze met nothing but the limp body of his father, a smile still on his face and his eyes closed.

Somehow, that was worse.

Tanjiro knew his family was dead the moment he saw them waiting for him at the bottom of the hill.

His heart sank into his chest.

Rokuta tried pulling on his sleeve but his tiny little fingers went through the fabric. His face scrunched up and he wailed.

Takeo picked him up and stared straight into Tanjiro's eyes. His mother held on tightly to the shivering forms of Hanako and Shigeru.

She looked at him with tear filled eyes, "Nezuko is still alive"

Tanjiro had never ran faster in his life.

On the day before the final selection, Tanjiro asked his master about what he saw.

"Who knows? Maybe you see ghosts? Maybe you're crazy? I personally think you see the last wishes and thoughts a human possesses before they die"

"You believe me?"

"We live in a world full of man eating demons. Ghosts aren't that much of a surprise"

Tanjiro thought about Sabito and Makomo. It had always bothered him how much they reminded him of the things he saw. But the fact remained, they were too alive. They were strong, they could kick his ass. No other ghost he saw was like that. Maybe those two were just that extraordinary.

"I guess they didn't want you to be lonely, Urokodaki-san"

Inosuke and Zenitsu were weird, and that was coming from Tanjiro. And he wasn't talking about they're personalities. Tanjiro grew up the oldest of six, he had his fair share of experience with childish antics.

What he found weird was the ghosts that followed them.

A woman hovered behind Inosuke wherever he went, mumbling about pinky promises. The woman always tried to hug him and looked heart broken every time her hands phased through him.

A young man and woman trailed after Zenitsu wherever they went. They looked at him and shouted apologies through tears. Tanjiro didn't think his heart could take another 'I'm so sorry for leaving you behind!'.

One day, the three were talking and landed upon the subject of parents.

"My parents abandoned me when I was younger...my mom probably hated me

Tanjiro looked at the people standing behind Zenitsu.

"No, I'm pretty sure your parents loved you more than anything"

The woman mouthed a small 'thank you' as the man smiled for the first time.

Inosuke laughed, "I don't have parents!"

"No stupid, everyone has a mom!," Zenitsu countered.

Tanjiro looked at the woman, "Yeah I'm pretty sure you did have a mom. I bet she loved you a lot"

The woman smiled and tried to hug Inosuke. She still looked sad when her arms passed through him.

The pillars had the most ghosts he'd ever seen. He was overwhelmed with all the people he saw. Tanjiro definitely looked like an idiot, looking into thin air, mouth gaping like a fish.

At the butterfly manor, he saw a woman with butterfly clips and a sweet voice. She talked to him about how she wished demons and humans could coexist when he paced around the gardens alone.

One day, the insect pillar caught him talking to her.

"Who are you talking to?"

Tanjiro thought about Sabito and Makomo, so full of life even after death. Inosuke's mother, who still wanted to stay with her son after death. Zenitsu's parents, who's apologies could only be heard by Tanjiro. His family, trying to save Nezuko moments after death before disappearing. They were more human than the demons he killed every day.

"Someone"

Shinobu raised her eyebrows, "A little more specific?"

Tanjiro smiled, "I'm just talking to another human"

I pause my shows a lot to get down these notes…then Crunchyroll or my internet (or both!) cursed me with regular buffering (that can sometimes play video and subs through it, but generally sets down a few seconds after unpausing and lasts for a minute) and made it a pain in the butt to make these notes. But you do realise I basically have notes for almost every show I’ve ever watched under this system? These notes are special to me, which is why I put up with the buffering. It also means impactful scenes lose their impact, meaning well-paced shows get favoured in my picking process on CR these days.
