Lucanus quisquila (Junk Bug)
I found a good deep box frame, and ended up putting together a bug to go in it. She's made from paper clay around a tinfoil shape, with stocking stretched over to smooth it out, and then just a lot of beads, cardboard, and bits and pieces from my junk drawer.

Prompt 224
DCxDP
Now Booster Gold would like it known he is Not father material, or even responsible adult material. That is Ted, and even then they seem to share a single braincell when they're in each others presence.
But again, NOT anything close to father material. Which he repeats to both himself and the eldritch Time Entity who just handed him what he Knows to be pretty much an unborn child of its species. look, he Knows about Realms Beings- Espranto was literally his first language like many others of his timeline- so he knows the inherent dangers.
But Somehow him becoming a time-cop of sorts has endeared him towards this primordial one, thankfully. Less thankfully, it has given him a whole-ass CHILD. A BABY. HIM. Of all people!
Ted he needs help, he doesn't know if this counts as mpreg or something and he's freaking out man!

This came to me in a dream last night-
If Clockwork were to be asked which of the heroes who regularly messed with time were his favorites...he would wonder who this dumbass asking said question was. After all, Time did not plah favorites...
Don't give him that look, Dan.
While the Flash Family was annoying at times, their resets helped him slip a few of the Observants leashes and little Bart was an adorable imp: he would not call them his favorites. After all, some of the resets caused many a headache.
Though if there had to be one duo he was unbelievably fond of- it would have to be Booster Gold and Blue Beetle (Ted Kord). The dynamic duo really were trying their hardest and well Booster Gold certainly made fewer messes then the Flashes.
Plus little Daniel found the duo hilarious as the now toddler ghostling watched them from his cogs.
So what better babysitters then Blue and Booster when he had to go take care of another time mess?
Booster was rather confused when between one second and the next, he had a tiny glowing toddler in his arms when he stood to get a beer from the fridge. That's not-how did-what. Oh there is a green sticky note.
Do keep my son out of trouble, I will be back in a week. -CW

So many cross overs so narrow of common hero choices. Let's expand a little.
"Rip what the hell is that?"
"It appears sir, to be a small human child. Around the developmental stage of 4-5"
"Even you know better than to cuss infront of kids.
"I was gone for five minutes."
"Actually I snapped you back to a minute after you left."
"Are You misser booser gol?"
"Yeah kid that's me. You a fan or something who got into something you shouldn't to find me?"
"No. Clockie said tis for you." Hands a sticky note to booster.
Note reads: this is Danny. You will care for him from now on. See this as payment for resetting your time line safely. If you even try pass him off to Bruce wayne/batman, I will ensure your entire familial line never touched time traversing. And you stayed forever trapped in the 31st century. -clockwork master ancient of all time. P.s. there is not conning your way out of this. I will hunt down every ancestor or decendant for all time.
"This looks very serious sir. Congratulations sir you are a father Now"
"Wow kid. Clockie must hate you. I'm so sorry."
"I'm not that bad of an option. Obviously I was judged better that batsy."
"Clockie ass hero I want to say wiff."
"OH kiddo and you asked for the greatest hero boostergold?"
"I wike space. He say geen lanern is space. He take care of me."
"I'm so sorry sir, you have already disappointed your new child. Should I take a commemorative photo of this milestone moment for you?"
"No" "yes skeets"
Camera flashes.
"I shall add this photo to a new album labeled baby book. It is labeled Danny's first disappointment, sir."
"Thank you skeets." X2 one sarcastic one pleased.
"I wan geen lanern."
"Think you're gonna need help anyway Micheal. Call one of them. Not guy."
"I would never co-parent with guy. What kind of idiot do you take me for?"
"Rip takes you as the utmost idiot sir. As does most of the justice league sir."
"Thanks skeets."
"You are most welcome sir."
"Can I pay wif the talking space ship?"
"Sure kid." Pushes skeets into the kids hands.
"I do not believe I am rated for physical interaction by children under 10 sir."
"To bad skeets." Picks up Danny who looks up at him instead of at skeets to smile all teeth. "Holy shit are those fangs? We are going to go see my friend Ted now. He will know what to do."
"He will atleast know not to cuss infront of kids. Don't know about the rest."
"Is ted geen lanern?"
Cue shenanigans. They were roommates, but adopted a child.
"Does Batman know you stole a child from him?" <- Jaime when he visits.
"Do not even joke like that. My existence is at stake."
"Batsy is the new beetle juice. In this house."
"Are You geen lanern?"
"Sorry kid I am blue beetle."
"Should I take a picture for Danny's third disappointment since becoming your child sir?"
"No skeets."
"3rd? How long you had him?"
"A week"
"Ouch. Hey kiddo why do you want to meet green lantern? Aren't these guys just as cool?"
"Considering the average human body temperature is 98.6 degrees I do not believe they qualify as cool sir." Jaime is picking up danny to hold on his hip.
"Clockie says geen lanern is space." Danny smiles.
"Are those fangs? Is this a meta kid? You like space? My scarab is from space. Isn't that just as... Oh My, no scarab!" Scarab starts to go into protect host mode while screaming danger desteoy threat in Jaime head just as Danny's eyes start to glow green at the statement and his mouth splits inhumanly wide with even more teeth. Ted and Michael scramble to grab Danny and move him away from Jaime till he gets control of the scarab again. But Danny has a death grip and won't let go of his new friend.
"I do believe sir that your new child qualifies as a meta. Should I take a picture to commemorate your child's first power demonstration sir?"

What suggestions would you have for cool, lesser known DC characters I could write a crossover fic with.
Preferably not Gotham-based characters because as much as I love them I need a break and I want to try something new. I know you mentioned Animal Man in another post. Does he have a solo run I can look up or is he usually in group comics/a side character in somebody else’s comics?
(I am deliberately baiting you to info-dump to me about any DC characters you want and I will write a fic with them so go nuts.)
Sadly at this current moment I can’t infodump nearly as much as I’d want to because my carpal tunnel is being a lil bitch but I can give synopses:
Animal Man- Buddy Baker, a typical suburban dad who also happens to be a hero that can use abilities based on any nearby animal (including bacteria?). He is powered by The Red which is the animal version of The Green (Plant Life). The Red is less the concept of all animals but more the concept that all animals are meat. his comics are either a beautifully terrifying body horror gore fest or a 4th wall breaking mind bending creation. No in between. Having Animal Man fight the Lunch Lady and realize she’s fundamentally a different being and not of The Red would be crazy awesome.
Booster Gold or Ted Kord: Booster Gold is a Time Cop who got his job from stealing shit from the Hall of Justice Museum and heading to the Age of Heroes to fund enough money and fame to pay for his mothers cancer treatment. He could be used in Clockwork related fics a lot and he’s also equally as much as a dumbass as Danny.
Blue Beetle also known as Ted Kord, is basically in the same package deal as Booster. Ted Kord, Late owner of Kord Industries, ja a brilliant master of technology and has stuff from a massive beetle ship to a gun. He’s best friends with Booster and their bromance could be fun if you want Danny to have two partially functional adult mentors.
Wally West. The second and fastest flash. A he’s the most go with the flow dude I’ve seen in recent comics, including dealing with an inter dimensional WWE esque fight where he fights alongside Space Hulk Hogan, and has a wonderful Wife, Linda West, and (sometimes) twin kiddos. The Flash’s entire sthick is family. They’re more family centered than the Fast and Furious movies for god sake. Having Danny find a new home in any speedsters home would be incredible.
The Spectre: the embodiment of Gods Wrath. I would go on far too long of a rant remind me to do one later but for now all I’m saying is that it would be sick as fuck for The Spectre to kill Vlad for the horrible things he’s done.
Green Arrow or in general Star City: Oliver Queen, inheritor of Queen Industries is a dude who got trauma after a boat sank and some island thing (tbh I don’t know his backstory off the top of my head), but he’s a very quippy and hilarious guy who’s jokes would mesh pretty nicely with Danny’s humor and in general he’s underutilized in both dpxdc and DC so it’d be nice to see that change :)
Ok hands are getting angry but I hope that’s a fun starting example list for ya!! :D

What are modern!Aemond’s favorite things about being a parent and the things he struggles with the most?
Hello my darling!! again, so sorry for the late reply. But I kinda wanted to do something different than the usual headcanons or shorter replies I've been posting lately! I really wanted to challenge the mental block I've been feeling since last year and actually write a little something, so here ya go! hope you like this and hope this answers your question!! x
Tumblr media
Aemond hasn't slept a wink.
He's been perched on his reclining chair all night, right by Amaelia's beside. By a cruel prank whatever divine force is angry with him right now, Amaelia caught some sort of stomach bug, on the very same night that his wife had to leave for a work trip - for the first time since giving birth to Amaelia. And while this isn't, by any means, the first time his daughter has been ill, it's the first time he's had to take care of her on his own.
He's watching like a gargoyle, with his eye fixed on Amaelia's breathing, carefully monitoring her temperature every five minutes, like clockwork. He frets about waking her every time his trembling hand rests on her forehead, but, he has to make sure. And like the royal guards of the bedtime stories he reads to her, he's standing by with Tylenol and a glass of water in case her temperature flares up, and a bin in case she throws up again - ready to combat whatever might decide to hurt her next.
This, he decides, has got to be the only thing he dreads about being a parent. If this were any other problem, like bullies in school, or a scraped knee, he could take care of it. He could be storming the principal's office in no time, or scare away the bullies with one of his infamous glares; a scraped tee only takes some mending and lots of hugs afterward - maybe an indulgent treat. But these sorts of illnesses he cannot see, cannot predict how bad they'll escalate, or if they're a symptom of something worse. This is killing him. And braving it alone is killing him.
He gazes at his baby with a forlorn twinkle in his eyes, missing his wife, missing the day before this, when Amaelia was being her bubbly self, jumping up and down in bed while her mother packed for the trip.
His baby.
Amaelia is like a living poem; as Aemond observes, his heart races as his eye travels along the many paths and landmarks of her face that represent the love his wife and him share. The more she grows, the less he can tell where he ends and his wife begins, as Amaelia blooms into her own. In this very moment though, he can pinpoint certain traces and echoes of him, in the shape of her pouty lips as she sleeps; and of his wife, in the way her long eyelashes are delicately cushioned against her chubby cheeks.
This is the best part, he muses to himself. Having participated in the creation of something truly magical, and watch, as time goes by, how that magical being keeps transforming, and surprising him with things about the world that he would've deemed mundane if Amaelia hadn't brushed her strokes of magic upon them. Like when Amaelia told him that in Germany, ladybugs are referred to "Mary Beetles", which is something that his sister Helaena must have told her, but it kick-started Amaelia's fascination over them, and now, whenever she spots a ladybug in their garden, a beautiful awestruck glow paints her face. And he's absolutely certain that he sees light, actual rays of sunlight radiating from her eyes when he cradles the bug in her tiny palms.
It's magic.
And by gods, he's gonna make sure he takes care of her little bud of magic, no matter how terrifying it gets, no matter the hardships and struggles.

still the height of stag beetle season, and today I found 3! a dead medium sized male under a streetlight, a female exhausted in an underpass, and a minor male missing a few tarsi in his death throes in some leaf litter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I took the female to a nice stump where she can rest until nightfall. she was lively so I think she’ll make it
Tumblr media
alive male was doing the “hopeless clockwork” beetle thing that I don’t think I’d be able to fix with any amount of sugar water, so he’ll be pinned with the other
Tumblr media Tumblr media
always pays to inspect every insectoid lump on the sidewalk, sometimes it’s actually a bug and not just a bit of trash. if you want to find (often dying) stag beetles in the eastern US, now’s a good time to poke around near bright lights where they might’ve been drawn to at night

Doctor Danny Fenton: On The Run
Danny knew he was on borrowed time.
Sure, he was harder for Clockwork to find than most- something about it being harder to look for an acausal nexus than a causal one, and the medallion fused into his core severing him from standard causal flow, Dan had explained it to him once, before he... no! Focus Danny! You don't know how long you have until he finds you!
Dragging himself out of his dissociation, Danny took stock. He still had the Infinimap in one hand; it was still green and dripping from something he couldn't afford to think about right now. Where and when had the Infinimap interpreted his shout of "a way to run away" as asking to travel to?
"Dann'O! You're just in time to see our newest upgrades to the speeder!"
"Uhhh... You made it look like a Volkswagen beetle?”
"Oh, Sweetie, no. See!" his mom said, opening up a control panel and poking around, then stepping away from what was now a cargo van.
"Your father and I finally figured out how to fuse ectoplasm with metals to make ecto-alloy! We rebuilt the speeder from it and added a camouflage circuit. Now it can change shape into whatever will blend into the surrounding environment for any ghost hunting scenario."
"And the best part is, it even gives off an ecto-signature! Those spooks won't know what hit 'em when you ambush 'em from this one Mads!"
A transforming vehicle with its own ecto-signature to hide inside? Yeah, that might work, even though Danny remembered the camouflage feature had been a short-lived modification because of how often it would get stuck and have to be put through a hard-reset to get it changing again. And judging by the way the Infinimap was subtly tugging towards the improved speeder that's exactly what it brought him here for.
"Mom, Dad, whatever happens next, I love you, and I'm sorry."
"Danny, sweetie, is something wrong?"
"More than I have time to explain, mom. Look, if you see Jazz... If this timeline... Just, tell Jazz I love her too, ok?"
"Dann'o, you're scaring us."
"I know. I'm sorry. Hopefully you'll have the chance to be able to forgive me for this. Going Ghost!"
Ok. He had made it into the speeder. The new metal wasn't phase-proof, there were pros and cons to that, ones he would consider later if he made it that far. At least the interior was pretty much unchanged, so he'd been able to get the speeder started before he'd heard the sound of a clock tolling and his parents' banging on the door had suddenly stopped.
He'd gunned it into the portal quickly enough to get into the relative safety of the zone before its stop sign frame and hazard pattern doors dissolved into obliterated nothingness along with everything else he had been able to see, or sense, of his home dimension...
Something else to be stuffed in the trauma box to be unpacked never if he was ever able to stop running 'later,' something to unpack 'later.'
The tugging in his hand was getting stronger, so at least he was probably heading in roughly the right direction.
He tried veering a little to the right to see if he could get a better sense for the direction the map was tugging, only for its pull to remain unchanged.
Confused, Danny glanced down to see it was actually tugging towards the dashboard.
Or rather, the ectoplasm- all that remained of Dani... 'LATER!'- which coated it was tugging towards the dashboard.
Desperately hoping this meant there might be something of his favorite halfa left to save, Danny pressed the coated map to the dashboard, and prayed.
Within seconds, the map was gone, absorbed into the speeder. Then things got even weirder.
Weirder than the group of ancients putting aside their many feuds to team up on him had been.
Stranger than those ancients somehow getting the Observants on their side.
More out of the blue than the Observants using their binding vow with Clockwork to force him to try to eliminate any timelines with Danny in them, as well as anyone who was even part Danny.
It had been a hell of a day.
And now the speeder had apparently grown absolutely gigantic after absorbing the Infinimap if the anachrofuturistic room Danny suddenly found himself in was anything to go by.
And according to the view screens it was generating a relativistic time, space, and dimensional tunnel?
Oh Lord. Danny was going to have quite the time explaining this one to his parents if he managed to undo enough of this to have a timeline to return to.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The tunnel let out in a universe with low-to-minimal ambient ectoplasm according to the external sensor arrays.
That phrasing! That was Exactly how Clockwork had phrased it the last time Danny had talked with him as 'Clockwork'; after the Observants took control of him with their vow he had called himself Chrona, which was the first thing which clued Danny in that something was wrong.
What was it Clockwork had told him?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Local ambient ectoplasm levels are an important consideration for stronger ghosts, Danny. Your perception is skewed by the limits of your experiences, as well as your unique biology, but Amity park and the Infinite Realms as a whole are essentially the top of the scale for ambient ectoplasm levels.
Normally, ectoplasm is a renewable, but much more finite resource. A sufficiently powerful ghost can easily consume all that is available in an area with a normal level before they are able to accomplish anything worth the effort if they aren't extremely frugal with their use of power. Normally, it makes any plans which would involve other realms simply not worth the effort and energy expenditure involved, especially with the additional up-front cost of breaching the veil.
There are even locations with low-to-minimal ambient ectoplasm, which makes them practically immune to ghostly influence. Only the very weakest of shades, ones who require next to no ectoplasm to maintain their current state of existence, can naturally persist in such places. Well, them, and extremely rare exceptions such as Halfa's, whose unique state of existence allows them to generate nearly all of the ectoplasm required to sustain their ghostly half. Any other ghosts would have to gather all of the ectoplasm they would need before going to any such spot, like how the astronauts you love so much need to bring everything for survival with them into deep space.
Actually, the deep space metaphor is particularly apt, as there are whole dimensions with far lower levels of ectoplasm than the one you call home.
Should you ever find yourself able to indulge that space obsession of yours, that would be a good place to do it. Most ghosts would be unable to follow you there, and even those who technically could would have great difficulty sustaining themselves once they arived."
"Geez, Gramps, you're feeling talkative today. Usually I can't get anything nearly this direct out of you."
"It will be important for you to understand your options, my young halfa. Speaking of which, keep in mind that your specific nature is vital to your ability to so easily sustain yourself in such environments. Even other halfas will have much more difficulty surviving in the lowest ecto-level locations as a result of their less balanced compositions. I know your young mirror's obsession also involves exploration, but she would require near constant fulfillment of her obsessions to have a hope of generating enough to get by without supplementation for you or another living being with a similar drive to seek new experiences. Mr. Masters would be better off due to his greater degree of human biology, but would also be hindered by the less complete connection to his ghost side. He would likely find transformation essentially impossible outside of survival scenarios- though you yourself probably would as well- and even his human form would experience side-effects like pounding headaches, or the constant sound of his heart pounding in his ears like a drum as it was pushed to maintain his starving ghostly side."
"I'm sure Dani and I could manage. And if we couldn't, we could always call you to pick us up."
"Untrue, actually. Any location with low enough levels to cause young Danielle to suffer would also be extremely difficult for me to reach. Such low levels could require anywhere from days to centuries in order to push enough ectoplasm through the veil to form a link, possibly more if an entity- such as an injured halfa- or anomaly- such as a rift of any kind- on the other side is draining whatever bleeds through. Your own presence may act to shorten that time somewhat if you can generate enough ectoplasm on site, but even then I would have to find you first. My abilities as an ectoplasmic entity rely wholly on manipulation of ectoplasm, and that includes my near omniscience. Should you ever find yourself in a location with sufficiently low ectoplasm, I would have a great deal of difficulty locating you; the link between our cores would mean that I would always be able to locate you eventually, but you would need to stay in one place for quite a while, which would rather defeat the purpose of emergency rescue."
"So if I ever need to hide from you because I actually manage to pull a prank on you which you don't see coming, all I have to do is find and then literally flee to one of a very select subset of alternate dimensions?"
"Pretty much. Although if you're hiding from me you would want to actively muddy the waters as well."
"Setting aside that I don't think I'd ever want to hide from you, Gramps, muddy the waters?"
"I'm a conceptual entity, Danny. I anchor to that concept in every single reality in which it exists. If the concept of time is sufficiently redirected to something or someone else to any degree, whatever portion has been redirected is therefore unavailable for me to latch onto. The same idea applies to Nocturn not being able to enter the DC Dimension because of their Dream of the Endless. Meanwhile, Pandora could enter almost at a whim if not for her guard duties, because that universe associates hope with her almost directly. In my case, anything strongly associated with the flow and concept of time could hinder me, while spreading my own name would allow me a greater share of any ectoplasm generated by the dimension.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok.
Danny could work with this.
He would have to keep traveling so that Clockwork- no, it was Chrona now- couldn't lock onto him or Dani-fused-to-the-dimensionally-traveling-speeder (He would have to workshop that).
If possible, he would also have to find a way to make a myth associated with time in an abnormal manner; the question was how to do that?
And he would need to do all of this while expending as little of his ectoplasm as possible, and probably supplementing Dani's whenever he could if she was ever going to have any chance of reconstituting.
He could definitely work with this; he refused to accept otherwise.
Maybe his parents had left some things he could use in the speeder before they were- 'Later!'
Hmm... No tools lying around... There was the weapons locker, but he should probably use whatever was in those ecto-batteries immediately so they wouldn't act as some kind of concentrated-ecto-homing-beacon. Maybe they could help Dani heal?
As he brought the disconnected batteries to the console in the center of the room, he saw it. There, sticking out of one of the panels which would probably have originally been the cup-holder in the center console before everything was transformed, was his dad's favorite 'screwdriver.' Not that it was even remotely recognizable as a screwdriver anymore; his dad had modified it so many times that it looked more like a futuristic laser pointer now. It had become his favorite hobby project before he was- 'LATER!'
He recognized this one as the version which required next to no ectoplasm to work, but as a trade-off had been completely unable to interact with wood for some reason. Something about still partially living matter and destructive interference with foreign emotional resonance as a naturally evolving survival mechanism in- Ramble 'later', focus on surviving now.
And Danny was actually starting to feel like he could find a way to survive with what he had. It was like his dad had always said about the screwdriver.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"See how many things it can do now, Dann'O! If I had tried to turn it into this version from the start it never would have worked; I would have gotten frustrated and had to move onto some other project for the sake of my sanity, and our house's walls. But since I took it one small change at a time, look at what I've been able to turn it into.
Incremental change, son! It's how any real change happens. If you want to accomplish something big, you try to choose the things which you think will lead towards wherever you want to end up, especially when they won't get you all the way there, big easy changes like that almost never stick for one reason or another. Over time those small steps add up, and you end up somewhere a lot better than where you started. So, what do you think you can do to apply that to working on your grades?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yeah, Danny could start to do something with what he had. He was still half alive, and could keep himself that way as long as he never stopped running long enough for Chrona to find and catch up to him. He had a Time and Dimensional and Relativistic Space ship (still not quite right, but better) with Dani fused into it to help him do just that. And he had his dad's screwdriver and advice.
So where should he start?
Well, if he wanted to build a myth, and to fulfill his obsessions wherever possible, protecting people while exploring all of time and space was probably as good a way as any. A time-traveling madman with an ever-changing camouflaged space-ship and a 'screwdriver', just passing through, helping out, was sure to get some attention.
It just needed a name to really give people something to latch onto.
He had just gotten his doctorate in engineering before everything went to hell, but as much as he'd like to use Dr. Fenton, that was just laying down a trail and begging Chrona to follow. His real name would probably have to be a closely guarded secret; the title was good though, so instead, he would just call himself
The Doctor.
Now, where should he run to next?
Individual clockwork beetles are more fancy accessories than weapons, intended to be companions to the wealthy. There are many designs of beetle, from incandescent ladybugs to majestic stag beetles, usually all averaging about the size of a house cat. Despite not being designed as weapons of war, they usually still have some defensive capabilities, letting them function as emergency protectors of their purchasers with razor sharp mandibles (or occasionally horns), and to facilitate this function they have small reservoirs built into them to allow them to carry venom. Many are unaware of this option, but those who do know usually surreptitiously purchase some venom in the case of emergency.
Rarely however, large numbers of these clockworks can go rogue. Sometimes this is by design, a creator building in some form of override switch or failsafe to take control of any of their beetles as needed. Other times it happens with a more careless creator who leaves bugs in the clockwork beetle's programming, causing them to go wild and bond with each other instead of their intended owner. In either case, a swarm of clockwork beetles has no proper goal or plan, simply flying about erratically and getting into conflicts with those who try and intercept it. Ideally, in such a situation the clockwork mechanisms running the swarm would wind down, but in the case of purposefully designed swarms (and some accidental ones) the beetles are capable of winding each other, prolonging the swarm indefinitely until either dismissed or destroyed.
How does the magic system work?
I talked about it here a while ago, but some of it isn’t accurate anymore. Magic is powered by life and death — creation & destruction. It is a force of nature inherent to the world as gravity or temperature. It’s always there. Soul Energy (EXP), and Souls, are what give things life. In the most basic sense (though there are variables here) the more complex a being, the more EXP they have. If you squash a beetle, you’ll get a little. If you kill a rabbit, you’ll get more. If you kill a person, you’ll get a lot. It goes the other way, too. Sex and birth produce EXP as well. When reproductive sex occurs, the one bearing the child will receive an extra amount of experience. Producing a child releases a small amount of energy into the world, as well as imbuing some into the child itself (because otherwise it’ll be stillborn). Every living creature has some amount of EXP upon conception. Without EXP in your body, you are dead. Even the undead have EXP (they just don’t have the souls that go with it anymore). (more under cut)
So, we’ve established that death and life produce and require Experience, and that experience is the fuel for magic. What does this imply about performing magic yourself? That you must kill. Now, I said organisms have a base amount of EXP upon conception, dependent on their complexity, but this can change over time. You can obviously accrue and lose EXP through your life. For example, if you were a staunch vegetarian and your neighbour was an avid hunter and carnivore, your neighbour would fare better in the arcane arts than you because they would have far more experience in their body to power it. And if your neighbour three houses over was a serial killer/cop, they’d be a magic whiz. To become a wizard, you have to abandon your morals.
This is why villagers, staunch pacifists, have outlawed most forms of magic unless it is necessary, natural or does not require excessive murder. Clerics have to be very touchy about what magic they use. Villagers eat a bit of meat at some times of the year, and accrue experience from killing and eating fish and livestock, so they use this experience for potion brewing and golem construction, relatively low-energy intensive magic forms because they are dependent on other energy sources like redstone and chemical energy. (Enchanting is a little more contentious among villagers)
Illagers, as you may know, were historically descended from villagers who got the boot for doing the darker kinds of magic that DO contradict villager theology. Aka, one’s that require killing. This is why illagers are huge fans of the old ultra-violence [clockwork orange theme plays] because it powers magic and magic means power. Totems of undying are sort of EXP banks where a good deal of the energy accrued from raids is sucked into them for later use/resurrection of its owner. Lapis is an EXP conduit, hence why it’s used for enchanting, and as stated in a previous post, gives anyone imbedded with it (like a vindicator) extreme bloodlust.
Prompt 155
So, Booster would have loved to know that becoming the equivalent of a Time-Cop would mean meeting what is apparently the primordial being of Time itself. He would have also loved to know it apparently also came with an adoption. And a small child that was apparently supposed to be sixteen but there was apparently some sort of accident in the dimension he (was the kid a boy??) came from. So.
He had a kid now. He… well shit, he had no clue what to do. Actually, he knows exactly what he’s going to do, he’s going to call Ted. Who will probably have an idea on what to do. Or what a four- oh you’re five? He’d probably have an idea on what a five year old might need.
He himself would push this hysterical breakdown over the fact he’s apparently now adopted by Time Itself to a later time. A later time when he’s not holding a fragile small child.
"That girl!" Ramonda exclaims in panic. That uneasy feeling was growing, and Ramonda knew something wrong would happen. Namor might be her ending, and she hopes you'll be there for Shuri.
"My queen, what should we do?"
The throne doors creep open, and everyone's eyes turn at the commotion. You shove through the crack as you shout, "Why the hell are those doors so damn heavy?"
Ramonda sighs in relief as she waves the Nymerian forward, "Taraji, tell me, what do you think they should do?"
You huff in disbelief, and the remaining warriors join your confusion. Ramonda raises a hand, and the room quiets. She nods as she waves her hand at you, signaling you to speak.
"Evacuate, um- use emergency protocols, all of it. I don't know what y'all are trained to do," You stammer, your gaze shifting between Ramonda and Riri, the latter giving you nods of encouragement.
Ramonda nods in agreement before turning to the warriors, "She gave you orders."
Ayo slams her spear on the ground, and like clockwork, everyone leaves. The Queen smiles softly at you and raises her arms to cup your face. "You'll be a great Queen."
"You're not dying, and I'm not becoming Queen," You denied, shaking your head free from Ramonda's hold. Riri fidgets as she looks around before stepping forward slightly. "Can't just sit here, so what're we doing?"
"Griot," Ramonda calls, walking upstairs and towards the mullion. "Grant me access to the emergency response fleet."
A holographic map of the city appears, and she begins to pilot the scarab beetles. Glancing back at the pair of young adults, Ramonda nods towards the other mullion as she hands Riri a pair of Kimoyo Beads. "Help!"
You blink, and another water bomb explodes. What if they didn't have enough ships? What if they were too late?
Ramonda glances over when four of the beetles suddenly freeze, and she sighs softly. "Taraji, look at me."
Smiling when you look at her, Ramonda coos, "Everything will be fine."
"You don't know that," You huff, looking back at the controls and piloting the beetles.
"Taraji, answer me. Are you with us?" She asks, guiding the beetles to pick up people. She smiles when you huff out, "Course I am. I'm not leaving any time soon."
"Quick question," Riri interrupts, standing on her tiptoes to look over the hologram. "Is that Shuri?"
A sunbird chases after Namor as he dodges every shot. He dives into the water before shooting up and driving his spear through the aircraft windshield straight into the control panel. He flies away, and Shuri and Aneka crash into the moat.
You're sure she can hear Ramonda saying something, but it sounds far. You could hear Ramonda calling you and Riri telling you everything was okay. But was it? Everything blurs before suddenly clearing, and the process repeats as tears fall from your eyes.
A blob appears in front of you before clearing into Namor. He flies in front of the throne windows and stares at the three behind the glass. His gaze turns to Riri, and you yank her behind you as Ramonda stands in front of you. Hands holding your arm, Ramonda softly speaks, "Everything is alright. Finish our task."
You nod as you and Riri scurry to the mullions. After a moment, Griot's voice chimes, "One minute until the last scarab beetle is to safety."
Riri sighs in relief as you both run behind the Queen. Namor swings his spear into the window and the glass cracks. Ramonda squeezes your arms before wrapping an arm around your waist and her other around Riri's shoulders. "You'll make it through this."
Namor smiles at the trio through the mirror before disappearing. Ramonda shoves you and Riri towards the stairs, "Go!"
"And leave you?" You shout, fighting against her hold. The woman is much shorter than you, but her grip is powerful.
"Run!" She demands, pushing Riri towards the stairs as her other arm still struggles against you.
"She can't lose you. She'll be alone," You tell her, and Ramonda freezes. Glancing between the window and you, Ramonda smiles, "She won't be alone. You'll be there. Take the child and go."
"All this time arguing, if we all go, we can all make it," You say as you grab Ramonda's arm to pull her with you. She yanks free and shoves you, and you flail as you try not to fall down the stairs. Riri tugs you with her, and she grunts when you shrug her off.
"Kumkanikazi, please!" You exclaimed, and Namor emerged with three hydro bombs. (Queen)
"𝐂𝐇'𝐀 𝐓𝐎𝐇 𝐀𝐉 𝐓𝐄𝐏𝐀𝐋!"
He hurls the bombs, and they explode as they crash into the glass, the room floods. The pressure from the water breaks the floor, and everything falls through. Your body jerks and you look around. The Queen's a few feet away from you. You move to help, and she jolts, pointing to Riri.
You glance between the two, and you're faced with a difficult decision.
Save the Queen.
Save your friend.
the spark in her eyes
Tumblr media
Enid didn't like Wednesday at first. She was blunt, stubborn, single minded, and had a personal thing against Taylor Swift. But for some reason, Enid got used to her. She got used to the little things Wednesday did, the small parts of her routine. Enid didn't like change at all, so when she came back to the dorm for classes to see that Wednesday wasn't there, she began to grow worried. It's fine, she told herself. Wednesdays probably just out looking for that 'monster' in the woods....But it has been storming for hours, the exact reason why Enid had called off on painting her team canoe. But it wouldn't be entirely unlike Wednesday to go hunt for monsters in the rain. Enid told herself she didn't care. But she did however, miss the rhythm of a typewriter that night. When Wednesday came home, she barely even looked up.
Enid had woken up countless times to the cello. What made this time different, she didn't know. But she didn't groan and cover her ears with her pillow like she usually wood. It could've been the fact that it was a full moon. But instead of the usual earplugs that came with Wednesdays late night sopranos, instead she climbed out from her bed and went to see. Wednesdays fingers moved with a fast clockwork that Enid never had and never would have. Wednesday didn't even acknowledge her presence as she climbed out the spinning window. All she did was keep playing, her eyes reading the music notes inexplicably fast as her bow followed. It was actually quite lovely, what she was playing. And for some reason, Enid's eyes went from the cello bow to Wednesdays face. She trailed the curve of her cheeks with her eyes. What she had assumed was a gaunt feature to her physique was really just a sharp jaw. She counted her freckles. But what enamored her was her eyes. Large and dark, Enid saw something in them she never saw before. A spark. She could tell that in Wednesday, she loved to play the cello. The thought shocked her. She thought Wednesday played it only to show off, not out of devotion. But just by looking at her, you could tell, she was in love. Enid loudly went back to bed. She never wanted to think of the word love and Wednesday Addams together, ever again.
...Enid had found herself looking for the spark in Wednesday's eyes. She had began sprouting a friendship with her, and what better opportunity? When in Rome. Not like she'd ever admit she was always searching Wednesdays eyes for some abstract concept of a "spark".
...
But if she would ever admit ot, she'd make note that the spark appeared more often than she expected. Usually, Wednesdays eyes were drowning in either boredom or malice, the two emotions Enid easily saw on the surface. But beneath, it was there more often than not. It appeared in her eyes when she wrote. When she played the cello. It appeared when she made a witty quip to Bianca. It came when Enid gave her positive feedback about her story. And it was beautiful. In a weird, goth kinda way. Not just a beautiful situation. It was like how a beetle would be beautiful. Only beautiful because it was weird.
The spark was there much more often, in the worst way. Enid had hoped, a little bit. For some reason she had hoped for a stupid, delusional dream. That maybe one day Wednesday would look at her with a spark. Maybe she did, even. Maybe she could look at her and find the love of a good friend. But that wasn't what Enid wanted...
Enid wanted the love of something more. And someone else got that look. Xavier. How could Enid have been so blind? They were so good together. Resident sad loner artist with the resident genius goth musician. It hurt how well they seemed to be for each other. Enid hadn't even meant to stumble upon them. She just did. It was well after club time, but Enid found herself wondering. And she wondered right into them. They didn't notice her, of course. Why would they notice her? They were too busy looking at each other. Enid zoned in on Wednesdays eyes like she often found herself doing. The spark. Just as bright as when she played the cello, but different. Not the love she had for the cello, or her writing, or from winning an argument. A different love. Enid knew what love it was. How could Enid possibly get in the way of that? She couldn't of course. And what sealed the deal of how she would never do anything was the way Wednesday smiled. Her smile was perfect. Gentle, with one corner pushed up more than the other. Perfect. Enid quietly turned the corner, and disappeared. It felt like the interaction lasted for hours, though it couldn't have even been a minute. Wednesday and Xavier hadn't even talked to each other, they just looked. Maybe they were talking right now. Maybe hugging. Maybe kissing. That stopped Enid right in her tracks. She wanted that.
She wanted to see the spark in Wednesdays eyes when she looked at Xavier, to be directed at her. She wanted to hug Wednesday. She wanted to kiss Wednesday. She especially wanted to kiss Wednesday. But it was a dream. someone as delusional as herself would have. It would never happen, and how could she even expect it to? Enid didn't want to take away the spark in Wednesdays eyes, not even the one she wanted the most. She could only dream.
