Jheronimus Bosch outfit
My latest sewing and crafting project is finished! This outfit for my Blythe doll Saskia is an homage to the Dutch 15th century painter Jheronimus Bosch.
Today I did a photoshoot, in the beautiful morning light.
I made her whole outfit, except for her boots.
I made her a brushed yarn wig and a purse; yesterday I did her face up. Her dress and bonnet are totally handsewn.
The starting point for this outfit is a cleaning cloth for glasses, printed with Jheronimus Bosch creatures which I purchased two years ago. Since then I have been designing and collecting materials. This cleaning cloth is cut to pieces and incorporated in her skirt and bag.
I’m so pleased with the end result, Saskia’s dark and gothic look is exactly what I envisioned for her.

one frustrating element of the new content bans on gumroad and patreon is that they're doing it to stay in line with their payment processors' policies, which themselves are in place to stay in line with FOSTA-SESTA.
which is a law passed in the united states, a country of which i am not a citizen and in which i do not live. i was legally prohibited from voting for or against FOSTA-SESTA, but because the platforms and payment providers i use are based there, i am expected to comply with it anyway.
and the tiktok situation shows us that any platform based outside the US can and will be either blocked from operating within it or forcibly divested from its foreign owners.
this is just another facet of american empire, by the way. it's more than bombs and guns and client states: it's that the US leverages its dominance over technology and finance to set policy for, effectively, the entire world.

it's funny, I was talking to someone last night who didn't really know what an illustrator was. so when I introduced myself as one, he gave a speech that would've probably gone over well with a gallery artist, but which was precision-tailored to make any illustrator within a 50 mile radius go into eyes-glowing-red kill mode.
his speech was about how there is a difference between craft and art, and how people can practice craft (as in, skillfully execute a painting) without it having any artistic merit.
so I'm someone who gets paid to paint waffles for restaurant menus and dinosaurs for museums exhibits, and AHHHHHH! AHHHHHHH! you can't make art without it being something something you've made. does that make sense? like every illustrator I know has an individual way of approaching any given imagery that is informed by a lifetime of inspiration, and of passive intake of culture, and of the specific mistakes they make because of whatever their particular mass of grey matter deems as important thing to render or unimportant, just fuck it up.
I can make something that is informed by both a century of Canadian print-making and by my own particular neurosis, and it can also be commissioned commercial imagery that I regurgitate without care because I want to pay my mortgage. everything is art, nothing isn't art, art is something sticky and impossible to shake off of you.
anyway he got very wide-eyed and said "I'm sorry if I offended you," so today I feel a bit bad for having gotten so, uh.... excited.

also i put the wrong amount of chromatic aberration on the donuts so they look a bit like donuts viewed while ascending into the 12th dimension. i'm not mad about it.

hi i am quietly asking people in the TSP fandom read my fics if they like weird analysis on the game and its functions and its endings and its meta--and yeah okay MAYBE it gets shippy but it mostly is about two people trying to become friends and trying to overcome the fact that this game doesn't WANT them to be friends, but they still are trying to make it work
it's out of order because it was a collection I started writing on tumblr first in response to people's reads on TSPUD but it's designed with flashbacks and interconnections and it has a throughline of trying to learn to empathize, and failing sometimes, and trying to learn to be better
on top of studying how the game makes you play it, what that looks like in a character's head, and how it can change but still meet its fundamental goal of spinning forever.
because I have thought about this and thought about this and I've been here ten years thinking. and at the end of the day I'm like the old fart of a narrator. I wanna be heard too. wouldn't you?
