Let's introduce the main cast a bit more in detail!
Meet Lucius, the protagonist!
He is a stoic, down-to-earth Roman oil merchant of Hispanic descent who travels to Egypt with Hadrian's court to look for a cure for his bedridden son. During the imperial journey throughout the Nile, he ends falling into the river and gets fatally bitten by a venomous snake. He is saved by Djet, who turns him into a vampire and brings him to the settlement.
Despite travelling a lot, Lucius is very proud of being Roman and considers that Rome is superior to other "barbaric" cultures.
