Ser padre soltero tenía sus cosas buenas. O eso se repetía a sí mismo Clarke mientras terminaba la maldita maqueta del sistema solar para la clase de ciencias de su hija. Nunca se le habían dado bien las manualidades, mucho menos la pintura, pero ahí estaba: pintando bolas de porexpan con acrílicos de colores. El mejor plan para un jueves noche mientras su hija dormía en la habitación del final del pasillo y un plato de guisantes se quedaba frío sobre la mesa.

Hacía ya tres años que la relación con su esposa había llegado a su fin, y dos y medio desde que había conseguido la custodia completa de su hija, pero aún había días en los que todo eso se le hacía cuesta arriba. Si al menos tuviera alguien con quien aliviar sus penas... pero el trabajo y la niña no le dejaban tiempo para ese tipo de relación social.

El timbre de la casa sonó, sobresaltándole y provocando un rayón amarillo a lo largo de todo Saturno. Así se iba a quedar. Con cuidado, dejó el pincel y el planeta sobre un papel y se dirigió a la puerta, esperando que Diana no se hubiera despertado. Quién llamaba a esas horas a la puerta de su piso y no al portal fue una respuesta que halló a través de la mirilla.

— Buenas noches Victor, ¿sucede algo? —preguntó, sin andarse con muchos rodeos y con una sonrisa cortés, al joven que tenía como vecino.

Chapter 11 Snippet:

Clark usually could temper his curiosity, but the dead silence of the crowd perturbed him. He made his way closer to see what was going on.

The cafe’s window was wide open, and sitting on the counter nearby was an old-fashioned radio. Whatever was broadcasting seemed to have caught this crowd’s attention. Clark shuffled over, standing behind the other customers, where he could also listen in.

Meryl placed her mug down on Milly’s desk and pulled the strap of her bag over her head, depositing it on the floor.

Milly perked up, noticing Meryl walk over, and gave her a big, happy smile.

Before either had a chance to speak, another colleague spoke loudly from the other side of the office.

“Hey, turn the radio up!”
