It's crazy that in early maze days cOwen mentions he doesn't know first aid and he doesn't know how to fish. Like how did you survive as a soldier if you can't use the resources around you??

Also cOwen apperently not knowing hand to hand combat is insane. All his memories after the reunion show him fighting close up, and most of his kills later are close up too. I guess you could say that he remembers this stuff later on but it's still really funny to think about.

Over the past few days, I started The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles case 2-4 and wrapped up the first investigation phase last night.

At first it was all fun and games. I saw the obvious reference to the Red Headed League from the original Sherlock Holmes stories and Herlock's dyed hair was so over the top for him. But Sholmes will do anything to solve the greatest dilemma (where the rent is coming from.)

But it quickly became serious and dramatic when Ryunosuke and Susato went asking about the missing prison warder, Daley Vigil. The guy was fired from his job and it happened ten years ago! And apparently his wife Evie didn't know. (But she might be lying.)

Mr. Vigil was involved in the Professor case. He was the one who was supposed to walk The Professor to the gallows.

And who else was involved?

Inspector Gregson!

And before we could find out anything else about the case of the missing warder, we hear from a very tear-eyed Gina that Gregson was shot and killed. And Barok van Zieks has been arrested for his murder.

(Gina is not the only one grieving Gregson either, all the other officers on scene are also mourning him and speaking highly of him. He was as much of a legend as Herlock Sholmes.)

But if I look at the facts, it looks like a lot of people involved in the case ten years ago are disappearing one way or another...

Dr. Courtney Sithe - Arrested and awaiting a separate murder trial after she failed to frame Professor Harebrayne for her crime.

Enoch Drebber - Arrested for being an accomplice to murder.

Odie Asman - Murdered during the Great Exhibition by Sithe and Drebber.

Daley Vigil - Missing and not found yet. He apparently tried to help a convict escape (likely Genshin Asogi) and was fired for it.

Genshin Asogi - Sentenced to death ten years ago and apparently shot after he "rose from the grave."

Considering what happened to Gregson and Van Zieks just now, I think it's safe to assume that there's a massive cover-up taking place, and a gag order isn't enough. Someone wants people permanently silenced. And Lord Stronghart has a big hand in a lot of these deaths, arrests and disappearances.

He's behind it all. I know he is.

And it's even worse when you consider that he has a pattern of bringing a prosecutor against a defendant with whom they have an axe to grind: First Barok van Zieks against Genshin Asogi and then Kazuma Asogi against Barok van Zieks, respectfully.

I feel like the Lord Chief Justice is not only pulling the strings, but happily making new ones and getting everyone to dance to his tune.

But it's hard to know why Kazuma agreed to prosecute this trial.

I thought Kazuma wanted revenge on Van Zieks for his father's execution, but if he really wanted it that badly, he could have just faced a hopeless public defender or even went forward with Van Zieks having no legal defense at all! But he doesn't do that. Instead he tells Ryunosuke what little he knows about the man he was an apprentice to, and hands him a photograph of Barok in the good old days before this decade old tragedy.

This photograph is enough for Van Zieks to finally let down his walls and accept Ryunosuke's legal counsel.

Kazuma wants to face Ryunosuke in court for...what?

The honor of a fair trial his father never got?

Playing the long game in exposing the cover up (and only trusting Ryunosuke to do it?)

For amusement??

I suppose I'll see when I get to the first part of the trial. I've never been so eager to start up a game again!

I KNOW THIS IS JUST BRAIN ROT. I know it. Judge me not!!!

I saw a summary post of the current Batman arc ((Gotham War)) and my brain is full of bunnies so the panel of Jason having that panic attack (<- litcherally went to go find fic of this concept immediately after because HELL yes I want to see Jason suffering. Messed UP, Bruce!!!!!) BUT. The concept of a chip that makes you afraid whenever you feel adrenaline. Oh my god. Oh my god ❤️ fear toxin is already amazing. BUT THIS?? SO good. My tags have jason fic rambles but unfortunately I am Currently a Tim Drake stan first and foremost so my brain went:

Huh, Fake Anxieté? 👀 and was like concept: young!Tim's parents find out about his forays into Gotham and his slowly expanding Lack of fear to consequences (he's faced scarier in Gotham simply walking home from school! He's a teenager now and no teenager is able to understand their own mortality it's a literal Thing!), and thus he is Not being a Good and Obedient Young Son. They will Fix This. And so Tim gets chipped (oof don't think about the dog and leash metaphor in this thank you :)) and I like the angst of him not realising it. Having to deal with this sudden influx of anxiety, barely wanting to leave the house because he's started to get panic attacks when he goes out to photograph things, the human brain tries hard to protect itself. If you're constantly getting flooded by adrenaline and fear your neurological pathways adapt and tell you everything is bad.

And it's. He knows this isn't normal. Tries to get his parents to help, gets assistance from online pysch self-help, struggles so hard with it, and then Jason dying 👀 Tim deciding he has to do something even if he's terrified of the outside world. Using every trick he can to get Dick back in the game and when Dick scoffs and does that (I can't remember it verbatim) but the vibes of well if you think he needs a Robin so bad why aren't you volunteering? line. Bro. The angst.

ANYWAY because this is an au (even if using more fanon!tim characterisation 'cause. Chip) I'm also like. Make him fight scarecrow as his first bust.

...Tim literally stuck here in: I can't mode, but if he doesn't, Batman and Nightwing die- it's not even adrenaline that gets properly triggered by his chip anymore, as soon as any of it starts he just gets flooded with fear and his brain makes it so much worse. Alfred watching him have a total breakdown 🥰 <- bad. Being like Hm I think something is Wrong With This Child. And managing to help enough that Tim - who has spent YEARS battling his (fake, thanks parents) anxiety - powers through and then shakily collapses when he's home.

Also this is when Tim is like okay. This is so not normal. I just had a three day hallucination. And Also that felt a LOT like fear gas. Figuring out adrenaline is the trigger and trying to suppress it...oof. And the coping mechanism he uses to get through Robin is just. Completely shutting down. It is CREEPY to everyone else. There is a subsection of mooks terrified that Batman bought the old Robin back to life through his dark magic and that's why he goes from bubbly poking-Batman to Completely Silent and Darkness.

Alfred like: this young man has an anxiety disorder

Tim: something is greviously wrong and I can't bring it up with batman yet because this is an InternshipTM until Batman is able to function on his own but as I get better at being Robin I'm sure I'll figure out why my brain is so weird and Also how it is that I'm immune to scarecrow's gas (that's weird right?)

Nightwing: this kid is a wreck how on earth is he managing Bruce's mental health so well- oh yeah wait nevermind he probably has lots of help with his own. Hm. Let's make sure he doesn't get hurt- why on earth does he go through missions like a robot this is supposed to be fun and adrenaline inducing does he not like FUN????

Batman: Jason 😔

Ever since Mu had told Hat about the Earth celebration of Mother's Day, Hat had been in a bit of a panic. Cooking Cat would be coming by their spaceship later that day to help them make dinner, and Hat and Bow needed to act fast to make a present.

"We need to cook something!" Bow had insisted. "What better present than letting her know her cooking lessons have payed off?"

Hat wasn't worried about fire, she had plenty of experience with fire and explosives before. No, her concern was that the present had to be perfect. "Our cooking won't be as good as hers, it'll be such a disappointment!"

"We can bake cookies!" Bow snapped her fingers as she thought of the idea. "She gave us that recipe book and that had some cookie recipes. And I remember baking cookies a few times back home! It can't be that hard."

Hat bit her lip, anxious. What if they burnt them? What if they forgot an ingredient? What if they measured ingredients wrong? 'Can't be that hard', then why could so many things GO WRONG?

"Hat, it's fine! Baking is just like science! Measurements and mixtures, you've done all this before-!"

"But I haven't mastered it! Why don't we just make a friendship bracelet or something-"

"Well, okay, I can bake them myself…"

Hat shook her head so hard her hat flew off and fell to the ground. "No way! If something catches fire I don't want you to be alone here.."

"Okay! Then let's do it together!" Bow smiled.

Cooking Cat entered the spaceship, opening her mouth to announce her entering when a scent caught her attention. It smelled sweet like sugar.

She walked toward the kitchen curiously and peeked through the door.

The kids hadn't noticed her. Bow was sitting at the table, sipping a warm drink from a mug. Hat, much less calm, was pacing around the room.

"Are we sure they're not burning in there?" She asked, glancing at the oven, and Cooking Cat got anxious realizing they were actually baking something on their own.

"Hat, there's no way they'd burn already, it's only been a minute." Bow giggled a bit. "You're getting too worried, I bet it'll be great!"

"She's done so much for us…" Hat was pulling on her cape. "What if they taste bad? She'll be so disappointed that her lessons aren't paying off and-"

"Well they smell amazing!" Cooking Cat smiled, fully entering the room.

The two jumped. "CC!"

"I'm sure you two did a great job, but what's this for?" She asked gently, pulling them into a hug.

"It's Mother's Day…" Hat mumbled, still fidgeting with her cape.

"Yeah! And we wanted to make a gift, so we're baking cookies!" Bow exclaimed happily.

"Wow! That's so sweet!" CC gasped, hugging them tighter. "I love them."

"But… you haven't tasted them yet?" Hat said, confused.

"I love them because they're a gift from my very thoughtful daughters." She smiled. "I think it's very sweet that you made a gift. I'm sure it'll be delicious."

"Yeah!" Bow smiled, mouth open wide.

Hat's face lit up a bit, finally giving a little smile. "I hope so.."

CC bit into a cookie. It was soft and sweet and warm. Her daughters were looking at her, trying to read her expression. "They're perfect." CC finally said, softly.

The way their faces lit up warmed CC's heart. In truth, it didn't matter if the cookies tasted good, though. Spending time with the kids was gift enough.
