I want to ask about Law and Usopp’s exchange in chapter 930. It’s the one where Law told him “if you get caught don’t say a thing, just let them kill you”; then Usopp went “wtf Luffy would never say that”
Can you translate what Law said next? I’ve seen it translated as “I’m more realistic” or “we prefer things deadpanned” or “we enjoy dry humor”
yeah! he says ウチはドライなんだ/uchi wa dorai nanda. his use of uchi means he's referring to himself along with his crew, like i was just talking about here. dorai is the adjective you're wondering about, and it is a loanword in from the english 'dry.' it can mean either dry as in dry humor, like in the english usage, or it can mean like generally a more unemotional / practical / businesslike attitude. the variety in translations is almost certainly a result of translators having different opinions on whether or not law's joking, because in the original it's pretty ambiguous- if i was going to translate it i would probably also do something like "we're more realistic" to maintain that uncertainty.

ZORO IS OUT HERE WITH A MILLION SWORDS KICKING ASS, AND USOPP IS JUST AS CONFIDENTLY..... doing nails on a chalkboard. And it's working.
I love him.
