I think about the fact that the beartaur has a full tabletop display of wammawinks village getting massacred and the only thing keeping her from having to see it was horse’s desperate yell for her not to come in here. A lot, actually. I guarantee you that isnt because it was dangerous, she could clearly hold her own against the beartaur in her *sleep*, it’s because horse knew what she would see and panicked makes a last ditch effort to keep her out and runs away before wammawink’s count of three to avoid her having to see that. And it’s probably one of my favorite moments in the show because of just how horrifying it could’ve been.

centaurworld au: horse as the next evil (origins)
@snickerzanddoodlez wants an au of centaurworld where horse essentially becomes the next nowhere king (cause of that whole "we're no so different, you and i" speech that elk gives her in the finale) and says i should write it. rn i am too busy and lazy to write anything too substantial BUT here are my plot musings for what this could look like
Rider is dying in the finale. none of this goofy, wibbly-wobbly "oh haha we make it look like she's dying but she didn't!" no she's dying for realsies
this is still distressing for Horse. obviously
I'm not sure how Horse would get the Rift Key, since the Woman has it and kills the recombined Nowhere King with it
side note: am I dumb or does it not actually tell us what happened to the key and the Woman afterwards. like, does she die? is the key destroyed? does she just take the key and go back to living with the Beartaur? are she and the Beartaur roommates? are they dating? is this a friends-with-benefits/situationship sorta thing? so many questions, not enough answers
ANYWAYS
we know the Rift Key can recombine things
and it is used to combine things that weren't combined before to make minotaurs (which we see step-by-step in "The Ballad of Becky Apples" with Bayden and almost Water Baby)
side note 2: Bayden NEVER GETS TURNED BACK. when Crandy recognizes him, he (re)gains control of his body and is the dominant personality I guess? (rip to the creatures he was combined with) but like...they don't fix him. he just stays in that form. so that does seem to suggest Woman destroyed it or took it with her or hid it or something unless Bayden just chose to stay that way which I don't think makes sense BUT I DIGRESS
Horse is distraught
and Rider says it's okay (maybe even re-sings her lullaby) and she's ready to die
but Horse can't accept that
because she spent two seasons trying so hard to get back to Rider (heck we have at least two songs of Horse lamenting her fears of everything being all for naught) and what was the point if Rider dies now
so Horse gets the Rift Key
and the herd belatedly realizes what she's doing and try to stop her - especially Wammawink, I'd really wanna highlight her reaction - but they're too late
and Horse uses the key to combine herself and Rider to save Rider's life
leaving us with Rider-Horse-taur (much to Rider's horror)
so we can get some psychological horror of the two vying for control because Rider knows this is wrong and wants them to split again but Horse just can't let her go and is afraid that if they split, Rider will die, so the two are at odds within the same combined body
how exactly does this evolve to being the next Nowhere King? I'm still figuring that out, but the concept was intriguing enough to me that I wanted to write it

Centaurworld didn't show a conventionally attractive man unable to overcome his own self loathing until it became a destructive force capable of starting wars and ruining lives just for y'all to call the beartaur an incel (even jokingly) just because he's a fat nerd with a ponytail and cargo shorts

Every time I rewatch the Beartaur episode in season 1, the implications of the Princess being his roommate just get funnier and funnier. “Any flaws in my collection can easily be traced back to the source material.” Source material, do you mean your roommate? I don’t know bro, seems like maybe if you stopped taking digs at her murals — oh, your work requires more artistry and finesse, does it? — then she would stop pranking you with things like telling you spears look like carrots.

Toying around with the idea that both Garnet and Amethyst are youngish children when Rose and Greg have Steven, and so take on a Big Sister kind of mentality in this AU.
Garnet was made before Amethyst was born and found by the herd, so she's got the most experience being the Big Kid, but Amethyst is excited to be the Big Kid for Steven and wants to show him all the Cool and Important things she's learned x3
Garnet is a liontaur, made by Ruby and Sapphire through magical mishaps and raised like generally any other kid, Amethyst is a (brown) beartaur, very small for her kind in centaurworld, who was lost by her birth family entirely on accident. Rose, Pearl, Ruby, Sapphire, and baby Garnet took in the lost cub as one of their own!
When Garnet is preteen/early teens and amethyst is around ten is when Rose has Steven. They're very much his big sisters in his mind, and he's their little brother in theirs! And everyone else is communal Parents afkjl;fdsajkl;afdsjkl;

I would like you to be aware of the Beartaur form Centaurworld. He’s half bear, the animal, but his human half is a different type of bear.

I still have so many feelings about the trauma in Centaurworld s1.
the tree shamans couldn't bring back Wammawink's herd, because what she needed wasn't for the dead to rise, but to heal. bringing back her family would not have fixed the trauma of knowing they were dead--murdered brutally and torched. necromancy isn't therapy.
the Be Best Competition is focused on appearances and distraction. there is talent on display, but you're not rewarded for artistry or passion, only novelty--or appealing specifically to the particular taste of one person (Johnny Teatime). And you don't even get to enjoy being the winner, because tomorrow you have to compete again if you want to keep the sash. You wake up in the morning and have to choose between being a cut-throat performer who will tear down their friends and loved ones to be closer to fame, or being an audience member--a nobody, because you aren't Performing hard enough. (or you can be normal like David and considered a joke)
the beartaur is definitely a fatphobic stereotype, but also he's a fucking asshole because he see the very real pain and death caused by the war as something Fun To Look At; he's not processing his grief, he's using the grief of others as toys. like the middle class white dudes who obsess over the Vietnam war or collect N*zi "memorabilia" instead of maybe dissecting the fact that their grandfather was a cruel, evil man because he obeyed orders to torture and murder other human beings, and it fucked up his brain chemistry.
the whale shaman herself is a metaphor for suicide, addiction, any form of unhealthy coping mechanism that relies on numbing yourself to everything--not just the hurt. she thinks she's helping (like the people who offer you drugs when you're grieving to "take your mind off things"), but all she does is deprive. I'm really glad she changes, by the way. it is so important that people realize you do not have to disappear from the world. you can stay. you MUST stay.
the human woman's boyfriend turned evil so she locked him in the void and... what, expected everyone else in two entire universes to just never wonder at the Rift and maybe find another way to open it? she expected everyone to share her shame and despair, and lose the ability to hope or fight for those they loved? she let the knowledge of the very real danger fade from everyone's minds, because she personally didn't feel like she could do anything?
I'm almost definitely going to add to this after I finish s2
