Found the original real world inspiration for the Eshu. The Royal Polaris out of San Diego.
The Royal Polaris is 113 feet in length and 30 feet wide. She is powered by three C18 Caterpillar engines, developing up to 2,200 Horsepower, and two 120 KW John Deere generators. The Royal Polaris has a huge bait carrying capacity of up to 590 scoops of bait and use an RSW (Refrigerated Saltwater) system to bring your fish back to San Diego in a Sushi grade condition. There is also a large spacious galley with a media center including a selection of over 1,000 movies. The Royal Polaris offers free Wi-Fi to all passengers.
Which the Cabrillio Marine Aquarium uses to run an annual trip to San Ignacio Bay.
My parents took us to San Ignacio... I think in 2006, which is how I ended up aboard.
I remember being amazed by how many people that ship held and how comfortably it did so. It's a decently sized ship but not a huge ship. It carried a lot more people than it looked like it could from dock.
I think I had already dreamed up the basic idea of Captain Ferris (I don't think I had made up her first name yet) running a time traveling evacuation / rescue ship. I think I had already decided it was solar powered and blue. And being on the Royal Polaris was just, yeah, this is it. This is her ship.

Donald Duck was the captain of the canal ferry I was taking. He was really bitter that another canal ferry captain was more popular and well liked.

Hmmm, not liking the turn I’m making. So, good time for a break and a stretch.
1,332 words so far today.
My favorite part so far is definitely James being 100% James and giving the heaviest most know-it-all answer possible instead of a simple one.
Captain Ferris asks about lifting an incredibly large and heavy magical object and:
“You shouldn’t have to,” James said. “It should be an affordant artifact for its owner, which you are.”
“Come again?” Ferris said.
“Affordance is the action possibility of an object dependent upon its user. Think of King Arthur and his first sword Caledfwlch, the sword in the stone, the hardness in the cleft. Only the rightful King can pull the sword out of the stone but for him it is easy, he can always pull it out, no matter how often it is stuck back in the stone. And no matter what, no one else can pull it out, because they are not the rightful King. The properties of the sword change depending on who is gripping it.”
“I thought it was called Excalibur,” Zephyr said. “And that there was only one.
“That is its modern name. And it depends on your definition. There was one sword and it was broken and reforged. So there was one sword that was three.”
“How very Christian,” JJ said.
James nodded. “You got it. Palato calls them Clarent, the making Father, Escalibor, the defining King, and Caliburc, the Inheritance of the descendant. They are all Excalibur but at different phases of reality.”
“I’m sure that’s all fascinating,” Ferris said. “My brother would kill me for stopping you but I’m tired, I’m wet, and I want to go home before something else goes wrong.“

Listen, I know that I'm supposed to work on other stuff.
But I am plagued by a worm, that won't let me go.

Hi Rainy!! :D
If neurosurgeon and ferry captain were your only two career options, which would you choose, and why?
ferry captain!! for so many reasons! first of all I should not be entrusted with the intricacies of brain surgery and don't think I could get myself to cut through a human being's skull. but also I LOVE boats. I love to be on boats. they are neat. I don't get seasick ever and I think I would have a wonderful time as a ferry captain. especially if I could LIVE on the boat too that would be awesome.
