The Miseducation of Cameron Post Rant

Okay so this is probably gonna make no sense but I just wanna talk about how much I love this book i think its my favourite book of all time.

My favourite thing about it is it shows pure lesbian love but also doesn't focus on love as the main point of the story.

I've watched the film and read the book and I understand the film had to take detail out but it makes me sad just how much it skipped. I don't love the way Jamie is portrayed in the film because in the book he is pretty supportive (after the initial shock) and Cameron always knew Coley told on her.

Particularly pissed at Coley ruining Cameron's life like that because she was ashamed, that internalised homophobia really getting to her.

I think this story shows just how lovely Cameron is like she never hated Coley even though she had every right to.

And I just love the lesbian representation but I'm also really thankful it shows the dark side of not being straight as I feel like a lot of straight people, especially now, believe lgbtq+ people have it as easy as they do which is completely untrue. I liked how raw and uncensored it was because conversion therapy is horrific and should not be a thing. It also shows we haven't moved forward that much, the book is set mostly in the early 90s and a lot of the same attitudes towards LGBTQ+ people still exist, especially in the church.

TLDR; this book is very important to me and I'm never getting over it tbh

Review: The Miseducation of Cameron Post

Length: 485 pages

Genre: Fiction (realistic), LGBT, YA

Rating: ★★★★★

I really, really liked this book. On my search for books with more queer representation, I (luckily) found this one. I think my favorite part of this book is that there is more than one thing going on. In a lot of other books, there's the main character, and then one central story line revolving around one other thing, and it often feels rushed. But this book took it's time, in the best way.

I was expecting one love story, followed by a trip to a conversion camp of some sort. I was pleasantly delighted that that's not what I got out of this.

There are several love interests, several important side characters, several stories linked together. We get to read about Irene, about Lindsey, about Coley, about Jamie and Bucking Horse, about Jane and Adam, about Rick, and about so much more. There were so many things going on in this story, and often times when authors try to write too much they write themselves into a corner, or just flood the story in general, but that was not the case here.

I felt like it actually reflected the life of Cameron Post (and the life of a person in general) because circumstances change, and where we are at the beginning of a story is not where we often end up by the time we're done. I appreciated that this book reflected what felt like the story of an actual person.
