Hello gamers of the jury. Today I present to you:
A color-coded analysis of why c!Eret betrayed L'Manburg (made with assistance from @fanceknight)
the more stuff from old vods we dig up on how they felt about the betrayal the more i've been wanting to do this, seeing as we've got more and more information directly from the date of the betrayal instead of a retrospective. c!eret is such a cool and interesting character and its really fascinating to look into why they made such a pivotal decision :D not to mention we can extrapolate a lot of what the original deal might've been (and how much the stinky green man might've manipulated them into the decision, teehee)

Do you have clips of ceret talking about memory loss prior to the recent stream?
They did a whole thing with Foolish more than a year ago, it’s been a large part of their lore and it’s impacting the character to this day. I know @dissonantharmony is a big clip hoarder, they may have more recent examples. And try their c!Eret information dump tag! Eretblr is almost always happy to chat about our favorite blorbo.

kind of a tragedy how everyone remembered eret’s line “it was never meant to be” but i don’t remember people ever talking about the line “it was mine to destroy” regarding l'manburg dropped less than an hour later. not to mention it was pretty fascinating. eret talked about lmanburg’s strength much more literally than the others did. she saw their strength and value in things like how many weapons they had, their tools, the security and strength of their walls, their armor and food—things that she made an effort to supply them with. like tommy said, eret wasn’t thinking about if the better deal would hug him at night like his old friends would. eret was thinking about how without him, l’manburg was weak and the war would end quickly if their supplies were taken away thanks to the fcr. as king, eret would be powerful. it’s a pretty self-centered way of thinking, forgetting the individual powers and friendships of the other l’manburgians that don’t tend to lie in fighting, but rather strategy and love and pure, unadulterated belief in what they’re doing. the kind of unpredictable things such as tommy giving up his discs for the sake of l'manburg that eret couldn't imagine, because supposedly nothing was worth more than the things that gave you power.

ive just found you through the c!eret quiz so i thought youd be the person to know if there was any sort of vod library of old eret streams? ive just come across an old flash drive i used to download a good few dsmp start-lmanburg era streams from a couple creators. i know older dsmp streams are hard to find so i was hoping to figure out if i have anything thats been lost to time and if i did i could upload them publicly somewhere for people to see
OOOOO ok ok. the best places to upload those would probably be archive.org and youtube—archive.org in particular is pretty great because it has a really good search system and i don't tend to see vods getting removed on here like they do on youtube sometimes.
as for specific eret vod libraries:
My specific search filters for looking for Eret vods on archive.org (scroll to the top while it loads or else the page breaks lol)

ALSO - Even if you find out people have uploaded some of these vods already, I'd still recommend uploading them. I've seen countless vods and vod channels disappear right before my eyes, so it is Always good to have a backup.

oooo, and things to say about c!eret.. hm
well one of the things i like about dsmp c!eret is despite all the negative reactions he gets to his eyes, he still shows people them frequently for a While. he also seems to really enjoy scaring tommy in particular with them which is honestly kind of adorable
i’m also fascinated with how they’re kind of… scared of change? they caused one of the biggest changes on the server and they acknowledge it, and yet so often it seems like they’re desperately clinging to any way they can find to bring things back to what they consider “normal.” she wishes the betrayal had worked so the fighting would end and the server would go back to how it was before the war. she trusted the eggpire enough to go to the red banquet in the hopes they’d turn over a new leaf, so much so that she nearly paid for it with her life. his museum is a literal fucking time capsule of hundreds of little moments in the server that are either gone now or irrevocably changed. eret wanted to bring wilbur back. eret wanted the revive book. eret wanted to protect people. she wanted to preserve an entire damn ancient stronghold and pretty much make it look like it was when it was first made above water. i just think deep down eret is really fucking scared of change, especially changes she herself caused, and every step away from that “perfect” start to the server she remembers is almost more than she can bear.
uh. Anyway i’m not sure where that came from. did you know c!eret and p!eret are both lightweights

as one of the foremost experts in c!eret, what do you think are the most striking differences between eret when he first joined the server (ex. l'manburg eret) and the eret at the end of it all? (ex. The Curator of the museum)
Oh My God uh uh. fumbles my notes. Shit uh
i mean for one. ceret Really early on in the server was very much focused on power and dominance (source: literally most of his stream titles), and mentioned on their first or second day they wanted to surround the server with walls and essentially take it over. when we move on to l'manburg they still seem to have a bit of focus on strength and power, and they dedicate a lot to trying to make l'manburg stronger as well (better armor, better walls, etc.). and of course when they betray l'manburg, power's one of the main things they focus on. their interests, if i had to sum it up just based around my shitty memory, are basically split between power and friends. in l'manburg they try to make those interests coexist, but uh. you can see how that went lmao. a betrayal for power and peace </3
basically, one of the biggest changes about them is how their interests did and didn't change? eret's still reaching for power by the end of it all of course--power to protect the server they're the king of, power to bring people back to life and right those wrongs. but it's a turn towards nobler intentions, i think.
as for the friendship aspect: for someone who's also focused on friendship, eret canonically spends a lot of the server isolated and lonely, and by the end of it, she's definitely recovering. she's made a lot more connections with new and old friends and has managed to forgive herself for the betrayal.
aside from power and friendship, eret is also very dedicated to preserving history by the end of the server and has done very good things with their museum (although as aimsey pointed out the reasons for the museum's creation point more towards self-harm). they collect the history of the server, give tours and help people learn, and are altogether very dedicated and kind about it. although, of course, their original mischief is still there--eret is stealing things for their british museum knockoff right until the very end <3
altogether it feels like... eret has changed, but not? she went through countless struggles and came out with her goals the same, but. scarred, essentially. she still wants power, she still wants friends, and she's still a little shit, but everything about what she does is simultaneously fundamentally different because of what she's been through.
i hope that makes sense!! this is the most coherent i think i've Ever been about eret's personality and character dear god i hope it's comprehensible

things c!eret did during the pogtopia era:
attempted to start a rebellion and tried to stir up dissent among the citizens (“up with the revolution, boys, it was meant to be!” is a line i…don’t really see anyone talk about)
offered sanctuary to tommy and wilbur when they were escaping
stopped fundy from destroying the flag the first time he attempted it and tried to rescue the flag when it was burnt
continued to support the rebellion on the 16th even after dream told them to stay neutral and eret admitted to chat that they were scared of him
tried to protect the walls of lmanburg and took as much of it as she could when they tore it down (i assume this is what she meant by the “original” wall from lmanburg is in the museum)
contemplated assassinating schlatt on numerous occasions
essentially threatened war with schlatt by telling him he was “lining up for a second war”
warned schlatt that “those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it”
downed a strength potion and attacked schlatt
burnt down the election podium
tried to break niki out of prison
gave techno a tour and showed him where the spider spawner was
built a massive potato farm to supply the pogtopians with food (all named “humble forgiveness offering - eret”)

c!eret and friendly fire in the final control room
(aka, pluto went through every perspective of the fcr they could find and figured who attacked eret)
Alright gamers! It's Pluto, back to torment everyone. As you may have been able to guess by the above, Eret takes damage twice in the events of the Final Control room.
Once at the very start, losing half a heart--
And a second time, losing a full heart initially and ultimately two from fire damage.
And because I'm so incredibly regular (insert sarcasm), I decided to find out who did it. The process was long and annoying and I won't repeat it all, but here are the results:
Sweeping edge hit: Punz/George
Initially I thought it was Dream, seeing as Tommy and Eret take damage simultaneously from Tubbo's point of view. But if you look at it from Tommy's POV, Dream takes damage as well! And Wilbur!
Looking back on Tubbo and Eret's POVs, we see George and Punz as the potential sources of the blow. But going through the vods from Eret's perspective, we can see they literally land blows almost instantly together.
Therefore, this injury goes to both of them.
Direct hit: Punz
Unlike the previous blow, we can manage to pin this pretty solidly on Punz. However, once again, it's difficult to tell at first, because George and Punz are once again stacked on top of each other. In fact, the only reason I could figure out it was Punz who directly hit Eret was because George takes sweeping edge damage at the same time.
In conclusion: Eret angst beloved, commence the angst fics, and stay silly. Thank you for your time gamers of the jury

(pokes my head out from behind the door, visibly frothing at the mouth) hey kids. wanna see some. forbidden views of the final control room tunnels from august 2nd 2020

fun fact! because of these clips and some Thoughts @enby-chaos and i had, the terrible terrible conclusion was come to that the entirety of the lmanburg war for independence may have been staged.
after all, it's a bit odd that the dream team focused mainly on tnt and arrow attacks during the war despite their gear and fighting advantage, then proceeded to retreat from ponk's tower during the arrow fight--only for eret to pull the final control room on lmanburg.
however. chaos did some lovely math on an estimated distance of the fcr tunnels using these clips, and it's very likely that ponk's tower was right next to the dream team's fcr tunnel entrance. especially considering eret and the dteam hang out here mere minutes after being seen in the fcr tunnels.
the conclusion? this was planned from the start. the dream team intentionally retreated so they could get to their tunnels, cuing eret to lead lmanburg to the final control room. lmanburg was never meant to win the war.

started thinking about the mexican lmanburg conflict again so i'm unloading my thoughts on you sorry not sorry <3
but man. ceret really did learn her lesson after the dethronement didnt she. stands behind dream compliantly, acts how he wants her to act, parrots what he says. it drives me nuts. she's been shown how little power she has in a way she cannot deny and now she sacrifices her pride for the power she knows is meaningless. but what can she do? what is she without this title, what could she do if she wasn't called king? she became king to help and killed her family to get there, and she's discovered now how little she can do but can't leave it behind because that means she would've killed them and ruined her life for nothing.
the deciever turned decieved, the power hungry become powerless. the karma that comes from sacrificing all that was and all that could've been, she supposes.
YEAHHHHHHHEXACTLY EXACTLY EXACTLY
not to mention eret gathering the knights of eret and probably feeling a bit of genuine hope that she has some power and can do something to fight back , if not against dream then against the people who attacked her. and then dream shows up and she’s back to being his puppet and quackity is throwing the fact that shes a puppet in her face and trying to use it to his advantage instead of doing something about it and aughuagh grabs you by the shoulders puppetduo makes me want to eat GLASS

(an entire infodump abt c!royalduo on november 16 because someone accidentally got my brain started and now it’s GOING)
ok so THIS LITTLE SHIT

THIS LITTLE SHIT, after the november 16th battle, ended up in a conversation with the badlands, who were under the impression eret was still king. when dream joins the conversation and they find out the truth, sam and dream start squaring up to fight. eret, seeing he seems to have people on his side, messages technoblade—you know, the guy who helped blow up a country like an hour ago?
and eret says this.
You whisper to Technoblade: want to join another overthrowing party?
You whisper to Technoblade: Think it could be fun :)
Technoblade whispers to you: perhaps
You whisper to Technoblade: George has claimed he’s the king of Dream SMP, so we want to kick him out
this was at about 1:39:54 in this vod. at 1:43:00, when the group enters the holy land, techno joins the call.
Techno: Someone’s doing a—a king thing here?
Eret: Yeah I was hoping you could come help, just do another, like overthrow party? That’d be great.
Bad (overlapping): So, Techno—
Techno: Alright. Who wants to overthrow George?
Eret: Yep.
Dream: [laughing]
Sam: [overlapping, indistinguishable] —all of the Badlands. Do you wanna overthrow George, Techno?
Dream: The thing is, there’s no overthrowing of George because it’s like, the land that he owns—he doesn’t own anything. The only reason he’s called king is just for… formalities.
Techno: Well, you know what? Let’s stop him before he gets land.
Eret: [above overlapping voices] Yeah, great idea! let’s do that! Great idea!
[Eret and Techno start yelling about content and audience retention.]
after this, the focus shifts to sam and dream’s fight for a while save for a brief skirmish at 1:46:27, when george steps out of the holy land on accident and eret starts shouting that he’s outside, but techno can’t get to george before george gets back inside the boundary.
at 1:47:43 techno and eret quote the beginning of the soup store video. not relevant i just thought it was important.
after a very long fight and a very long conversation about the badlands and george refusing to give them land, the group heads to the castle and eret messages techno again at 2:05:40.
You whisper to Technoblade: George left the safe zone
You whisper to Technoblade: At castle if you’re still on board
at 2:07:30, techno arrives and attacks george. he drives george towards eret, who actually attempts to get the final hit on george, but is both a millisecond too late and missed by a few pixels.
big f, eret. you tried.
after george is killed, eret cheers for techno and celebrates with the rest of the badlands.
(interestingly, when eret tries to sit on the throne after this, dream comes up and crits them multiple times with his axe to get them off.)
afterwards, once everyone disperses from the castle, eret destroys her throne and herobrine shrine and runs, eventually joining techno and phil’s vc at 2:17:25 and going to techno’s river base. they have a very awkward but friendly chat, which i really recommend listening to because it is both very fun and has quite a few jokes about the lore lol.
