Hmm, well you could probably do userboxes pretty easily too. If you have Picsart (which can be used via mobile or computer alike) you could make them pretty easily. Plus they're really fun.

There's also a free version of Photoshop called "Photopea" that you can play around with as it acts and is formatted almost the exact same. But you could platforms like Canva or Pixlr.

the pain you carry is the proof that you are human. you are very much alive. after all, humans cannot be called humans without the concept of pain and suffering. we feel to make us alive and pain is one of those aspect that makes us human. these emotions help us grow and after all, there is a saying that we learn from our mistakes, right? the same applies to pain and suffering. you deserve kindness that you give to others and i hope i can give you that, even the slightest bit of kindness that you gave to me. you made me feel less lonely here at tumblr— a platform where i have no idea where to start or what to do and i'm all alone because my friends don't have this site. i hope i could return the kindness and warmth you gave me one day. humans often get lost and confused, there are times where we get sidetracked. times where we just stop at our tracks and be stuck in one point in life but nonetheless, that's part as our traits as humans.

Hi Mr Starbuck! Some friends and I are moving in a few months and we're eyeing various places all over the US. Chicago came up as a relatively affordable big city (compared to LA and NYC) and I have to ask the resident Tumblr Chicagoan his opinion. As a resident who lives and works in the windy city, what's your big pros and cons of residing there (especially things you might not encounter as a tourist)? (also, how accurate is your "guide to chicago" still, since its been a few years!)

Well, I definitely have opinions!

The guide to Chicago is no longer accurate -- too many places have closed or moved, and the pandemic altered a lot (for example the Money Museum still exists but I'm not sure if it has regular hours even now). I should do a new one but like, I really don't get out much anymore so I can't talk about restaurants outside of a VERY local area, and I never could talk much about hotels, which just leaves points of interest mostly already covered by Atlas Obscura. :D At this point it'd just be kind of moot, others are doing it better than I am.

Chicago is inexpensive compared to New York or Los Angeles, but like, that's everywhere in America. Chicago is still a quite pricey city to live in, mainly because the taxes are so high -- 10.25% sales tax, for example, and my property taxes are also pretty steep. People joke about Taxachusetts, but I'm pretty sure Chicago at least has it beat (and 2/3 of the state's population lives in Chicago or the outlying suburbs). Housing is not at a premium in the way it is in NY and LA but depending on where you want to live and how far you want to commute it can still be very expensive. My housing was never less than half of my monthly income until I bought this place, and then ONLY because the job I'm in now came with a $10K/yr raise from my last one.

Chicago does have great culture, great museums, great food, and it's a liberal island in a pretty conservative region. It is however quite segregated, so if you are any race other than white, living here can get a little more complicated than I've portrayed it as a white dude. There is significant crime and particularly gun crime, but it's generally confined to specific regions of the city. That said, even if you discount crime, the Chicago PD are corrupt as fuck and uninterested in being helpful, so if you are from a demographic the cops enjoy harassing, it will not be different here.

I do love the city, warts and all. I like the water, I like the people, I like the midwestern vibe. I'd find it very hard to leave, especially because I have a network of friends here, but also because I just plain like it and I know it really well. There is a very short list of cities I'd consider leaving Chicago for, and most of those would have to have a well-paying job waiting for me. But it did take me time to fall in love with it -- it took a few years before it felt like home.

It's a little difficult to get more specific without knowing more about your situation -- what you do for work, what your budget is like, what your goals are in leaving where you are. Do you prefer to drive most places? (Parking and traffic can both get dicey.) Can you tolerate taking public transit if driving is inconvenient? Is the industry in which you work something that has a lot of openings here? Do you want to live in an urban environment, and if so are you prepared to live in a likely somewhat shitty apartment to do so? If you prefer to live in a house, are you prepared for a long commute? What do you like to do for fun and is there a thriving culture for that here? What is it important to have access to -- museums, concerts, theater, sport? Where do you need to travel to regularly (ie, I go to Austin several times a year) and how do you prefer to travel there?

Ok so here's the second half of my meta thoughts on C3E51 and encounter design, focusing on the powerful NPCs (former PCs, if you will) (first half of this meta is HERE):

It's so fun and makes narrative sense for Caleb and Beau to be there but I don't think they were ever going to stop Ludinus, no matter how Liam and Marisha rolled. The low rolls meant they got captured as opposed to assisting the Hells more, but once they were captured I kind of breathed a sigh of relief? Not a huge one because I figured Matt wouldn't cross that line, but it was confirmation that they have some degree of plot armor. If Matt wanted Beau and Caleb to truly be in danger of dying without their players controlling them (imo, a breach in ttrpg etiquette unless there were serious conversations about it), Ludinus would have killed them right then. Instead we got a full: "Now Mr. Bond, it would be smarter to kill you, but you must be here to witness my triumph!" Which I love, to be clear - monologue your heart out, Ludinus!

So yeah we don't 100% know what happened to Caleb and Beau in the aftermath, but if they weren't killed earlier there's no way they were killed off screen. And the players are clearly thinking about checking in - Liam called out "who has the sending stone to Caleb" before the ended the episode so it's likely we'll get someone trying that out and rendering any speculation moot soon anyway.

Regarding the other former PCs, Keyleth's role in the encounter was very similar, in that of course she would be there, but this is not her story. So she was more of an encounter beat and an important piece of the narrative, and not as active of a presence. Same goes for the Champion of Ravens, who functioned more as a plot device.

And all of this, really, is related to how this is Bells Hells' story, and not any other party or character's. Keyleth and Beau and Caleb and Vax are there, sure, but they're there to raise the stakes or add texture and tension to the world or, in Vax's case, to be a plot device. They're not active in the way Bells Hells are, even though we know and love them. They're not centered here. It's like how Allura had her own history with Thordak, but even with that she was never the one leading the charge against the dragons, and Vox Machina spent a while not even knowing if she survived the initial attack on Emon.

What is centered in this encounter design and the narrative that comes from it is Bells Hells. They are the active movers in the narrative that unfolded, and they will be the most active pieces moving forward - because we're following them, even as the world continues around them! They did enough damage to somehow mess with Ludinus's plan. There has not been an immediate negative outcome on a planet-wide scale to the machine turning on, although one is surely coming. And Bells Hells are now taking a lot more information (what is powering the machine, the knowledge to target Otohan's Echo machine to weaken her, etc.) into future encounters.

This was supposed to be for laughs, mostly (but ended up more sinister). It's March of the OCs, but I don't really do OCs. So they only have dialogue in this, but there IS a bit of backstory implied. I do think the Tracies would have inevitably pinned themselves on the radar of some counterterrorism or intelligence division of the GDF. I also maybe watched too much "Criminal Minds", "NCIS", and "Scorpion". This takes place after "Space Race".

PERSON OF INTEREST

"Please, tell me he didn't do it!"

"I'm afraid he did. The kid's space-rated. With parental concent."

"Ó meu Deus, what was Scott THINKING!?"

"I could throw together a quick profile, but I'm fairly certain that was a rhetorical question."

"The child is TWELVE!"

"Fourteen."

"Yeah, that changes everything and makes him soooooo much more qualified to DISARM AN ORBITAL NUKE!"

"Which... he wouldn't have done without assistance and intel."

"Now we're talking!"

"That's a moot point, anyway. We can't interrogate the boy without a legal guardian present."

"Who is on approach now and due to arrive from an earthquake in Peru in... about seven minutes."

"Four, if he pushes it to Mach 19. Which he will."

"So we don't have much time to coordinate a strategy. I think you better run point on the interview."

"That's... not necessarily a good idea."

"Listen, I'm the Big, Bad, Unknown Quantity guy, who's threatening the pup."

"That's his baby brother."

"Immaterial. Scott Tracy is a pack leader. That's his pup. He's gonna snarl, growl, bare his teeth and bark till I go away and not be a danger to his kid anymore. THEN he's gonna lawyer the child up, down and backwards. Probably the ginger Spaceman too."

"And you think he's gonna be less hostile if it's ME in the interrogation room? You HAVE read my file. We didn't exactly part on amicable terms. He's not going to be more forthcoming if it's me."

"No. But the boy might. He's raised in the household with strong, charismatic female figures. He's not gonna be intimidated. If the child is not scared, Scott is more likely to calm down and comply with the line of questioning. We need to figure out how the nuclear codes were leaked, remember?"

"That's one vague tangent to build an interrogation on. Speaking of... We still need to interrogate the Ginger Tracy. He logged IR in for space junk duty."

"I'm on it. The trick is to get him down from orbit without their Intrepid Leader biting my head off. So keep him occupied, deal?"

"Good luck. That kid's a genius."

"I figured as much."

"No, you don't get it. A genius genius. Top 2% IQ".

"I'll take my chances."

"You do that. Simpson says he was responsible for the original crude code of Eos."

"Whoa! Alright. I'll do my homework, then take my chances. Are they ready to test Eos out in the open, by the way?"
