"You think it would be gross if we kissed?"
Steve thinks you might actually sound hurt, but he also thinks the face he's making is hilarious beyond belief: kind of contorted and screwed inward, nose scrunched and trying really hard to batten down a grin. You glare at him from the passenger's seat, arms crossed tight over your green Family Video vest.
You think he's wonderful despite his naiveté. If only he knew how handsome you thought he was, all caramel locks and big brown eyes and the kind of smile that reaches his eyes before he's even thought of it. No wonder he has an ego up to the moon. No wonder he still manages to weasel his way into the creases and crevices of any living creature's heart. Even yours. Hell, especially yours.
"Yeah, duh!"—and he's so sure of it, you could cry—"You're like the little sister I never had!"
You chuckle but you look like you're about to hurl yourself out of the car or get yourself arrested for manslaughter. Thank God he's only a block away from your house, or he'd never see the light of day again. Does he really think of you like that? The soft laughter peters out into a grating silence that burns right down your throat and feels like hard metal settling in your lungs.
He doesn't dare glance over at you. He only bites down hard around nothing and grimaces, eyes set hard on the lines dashing beneath the grill of his car. Jesus Christ, he does not think of you like that. And he begs whatever stupid pride is keeping him steady in this nonexistent pissing contest to leave it be, but its jaw is set in the tender meat of the game.
"Don't have to be so jovial about it," you grumble.
"What?"
"Mine's on the left," you grumble, nodding out the window. Oh, he's definitely in trouble. You only ignore him like this when he's done something boyish to a fault.
"I know. I drive you home every—hey!"
"Bye," you coo, booking it up the steps to your door, refusing to turn over your shoulder for fear that you'll burst into tears upon seeing him smile or frown or crack the slightest look of confusion.
He watches you slam the door and rolls the passenger window up with a frustrated sigh. Where the Hell did that come from and why. All while you're sitting against the foot of your bed, chattering into the phone at Robin, still wearing your uniform and tugging at strands of your hair as expletives weave themselves between every three words.
"Oh my Fucking God, I'm so fucking embarrassed right now, Robs—Does he—? Does he think I'm some sort of fuckin' baby? I just don't—"
"He's just being Steve, okay? He probably didn't mean it—"
"The way he looked at me, Robin, I felt like a fucking imbecile. Of all the dickheads in the world I could fall for, my heart chose Harrington? Maybe I'm the idiot." You sigh and kick your feet out, the frustration winding up new nerves and letting them go like tight springs to fling out over your body.
She sighs and it rattles through the grainy speaker. "You're not an idiot; he has his moments. Don't beat yourself up, you know how he gets. He's probably not thinking straight, just... tell him? The worst he can say is—"
"That I'm like a sister to him? Oh, how delightful. That's even worse than just flat out admitting I'm unattractive."
"You're not unattractive, don't do that."
"I am to him," you groan.
"Hey," she hums after a beat of crackling silence. You close your eyes and grip the sickly yellow receiver a little tighter.
"I really like him."
"I know."
"And it sucks."
"I know." The other end rustles and you let out a curt sigh just as you move to stand. "I love you, and I'm here for you. Especially when dumb boys make you feel like shit. You'll always be the most amazing and most beautiful girl in my life, don't forget that."
"Thank you. I'll see you, Robs."
"Take it easy."
Steve wakes up to an ache in his neck and a soreness in his knuckles. You didn't call him last night. And he's assuming you didn't call him before school this morning because his alarm clock flashes eleven, first period starts at eight-thirty, and the tone his ancient landline emits is shrill enough to deafen a man. Let alone wake him up in a cold sweat. He concocts a sick feeling in his stomach of burnt orange shame and maroon guilt because he has to wait until closing shift tonight to explain himself to you.
But by then, he's feeling spiteful. You weren't home when he went to pick you up and he waited ten minutes and knocked on the door in bulk. Until someone who was not you answered and told him that you'd gotten a ride with some jerk from the Hawkins High football team. That's not how it was originally said, but that's how he heard it. So you're avoiding him? It makes him spit up a little in his mouth, and he's going about twenty over the speed limit the entire way to make it on time.
By the time he can fling open the glass door and hear the sound of the tiny bell, he spots you in the back corner with a stack of tapes under your arm. Listening to music. To drown him out. And it makes him frown. Six hours. That's how long he'd have to endure this, then he could go home and not call you and not be able to sleep.
The casette in your Walkman can only run for so long, right? But he watches you rewind it after an hour and a half and slumps against the front desk when you grab a new stack of tapes from behind him. He simmers down after the first half of the shift, and of course, the fact that you won't talk to him rubs him the wrong way, but what's even worse is that now you're bumming rides off of losers on the worst football team in all of Indiana.
He gets worked up thinking about that guy's motivation and how many times he probably tried to make a pass at you. Steve would never do that to you. Even if he wanted to, he's a gentleman at heart. He could beat that jerk to a pulp just imagining him giving you the look. God forbid that sucker puts his hands on you. Steve would get charged with battery before ever letting that happen.
It's not like he can say anything to you about it either. He's pissed, and he knows himself. He'd get all angry and confrontational, and you deserve better than that. It's his fault you got there first, and it's his fault you got to stocking, and it's his fault you're tuning him out. But he didn't think what he said last night would be worth all that trouble.
"If you keep up the optic blast, I'm gonna buy you a ruby-quartz visored monocle." And that droning voice could only belong to one overbearing manager.
"What do you need, Keith?" Steve grumbles, and out of the corner of his eye, he catches you looking to the front of the store to watch the encounter with a smirk.
"Duty calls, Harrington. Corporate sent us more shelf space. Need someone to unload it into the office," Keith murmurs, shooting a glance your way, "And, uh... it's kind of unwieldy, so get the kid to help you out."
It makes Steve's eye twitch because you're not some kid. And if you heard Keith refer to you as such, you'd unleash a fleet of curses on him. Only Steve is allowed to call you that. Because it's funny, duh. You're a year younger than him, obviously he's going to use that to his comedic advantage. Oh.
He lets out a sigh—"alright"—and leaves Keith to man the front while he skirts to the back of the store and leads you by the hand through the office.
"'The Hell, Harrington?" you hiss, but you keep your fingers locked between Steve's, abandoning the rest of the tapes on Keith's desk and jogging to catch up with his stride. As forward and demanding as his grip may be, you have to admit, the warmth of his palm is comforting and it makes your heart race because you've never held hands with Steve before. And in any other circumstance, you might've been able to enjoy it a little more.
"Keith told me to tell you that you have to help me bring a shelf in from the truck."
"Oh, I have to?" you bark, now pulling your hand away and putting your headphones around your neck once you exit through the back door with him. "And you didn't think to give me a warning before yanking on my arm?"
"Yes, you have to, and maybe if you weren't listening to that shit so loud, you would've been in the loop." It comes out far more harsh than he intended, and that was exactly what he was afraid of happening in a confrontation with you. His brow softens, and the tension in his upper back and jaw dissipates into his own self-pity party. "And I didn't yank on your arm. Or at least I didn't mean to, so I'm sorry for that much."
Steve hops up into the truck and offers you a hand you don't take as much as you both wish you would have. Because he looks like a kicked puppy, and you have to stop yourself from cheering yourself on. Maybe this will be your first literal step towards getting over him. Once and for all.
After about fifteen minutes of heaving and ho-ing, the two of you manage to haul the shelf into the office as per Keith's request. He was right: it was unwieldy. The awkward grip spots caused a lot of overlap, and you both flinched away from the physical contact in a matter of milliseconds. But Steve couldn't deny he felt bad, and you couldn't deny that you definitely still had feelings for him.
You grab your previously abandoned stack of tapes to scurry out of the office, but Steve stops you by the elbow. And you glare back at him.
"Sorry. The... yanking, I know"—he shoves his hands in his pockets and looks down—"Look, I'm not entirely sure what happened last night in the car, but it clearly made you uncomfortable, and I'd like to apologize."
He can see the neurons firing when he looks you in the eye, but he can also see that his apology wasn't effective in the slightest. Because you're still anger-ridden and fuming at him. You put your headphones on and go back to restocking shelves.
He checks the digital clock above the door. Two hours till eleven. Great.
And they creep by like refrigerated molasses. Second by second. Every time he glances at the clock, only a minute has passed. Eventually, though, he starts cleaning up for closing: vacuuming, cleaning the windows, fixing the display. And he finds himself getting a little more efficient at checking tapes back in and rewinding them only so you'll cruise by the front—scowling at him, but nonetheless at him—to grab a new stack and shelf it.
Five minutes to closing and a sleek, blue sedan pulls into the parking lot, and you practically beam at it, grinning and skipping to the front. You grab your bag from under the counter next to Steve's hip and shove your Walkman into it.
"You know, my car works perfectly fine," he grumbles, "don't have to replace me with some football jerk." He knows that struck a nerve because your smile immediately flickers away into a squint.
"That football jerk is bilingual, a painter, and lets me listen to the music I like in his car."
"But that's not the rules," he whines, desperately defending himself against some sports guy who's probably taking advantage of you.
"Well, I like him and he's nice to me." You sling your bag over your shoulder triumphantly, marching towards the door.
Steve is aghast at the implication. He thought you liked listening to the radio. Plus he took Spanish and art for the required two years, it's not that great of an achievement.
Still, he sputters out, "Yeah, well—"
You wave over your shoulder. "Later, Steve."
Since when did he become such a loser.
He watches jerk-face open the car door for you then glance over to wave at him with a perfect smile and perfect hair and perfect manners. What an asshole. Steve does not wave back.
"That's the kinda guy she likes?" he fusses into the phone, palming his face while Robin chuckles on the other line. This whole time he thought for sure you liked the self-assured, cocky, college-age boy type. And now you're dating a high schooler. Come on, jerk-face is not even that good looking.
"First of all, they're not dating. Second of all, don't lie to make yourself feel better; even I can admit he's basically a Greek god," Robin says, shoving a handful of popcorn into her mouth. "Third... why do you care? You’re acting like it’s your job to protect her, but it’s not. She’s an adult now, you know, she can take her of herself.”
He lets out a puff of air through his nose, blinking hard and leaning into the pale yellow receiver. Then mumbling: "She told you."
And she replies, cheerily: "Yup."
"Well—! I just... don't want to see her get hurt. I know that type of guy. I used to be that type of guy. He's bad news, I can tell."
"Right,” Robin scoffs, “It's definitely not because you love her.”
"I don't love her. She's just a baby, and we don't even like the same things. It would never work out between us, there's no connection." They both know it’s a lame excuse, but it’s worked up until this moment. It’s worked since the day you met. You’re too young, the end. Sure, you can be cute sometimes, but you’re also a pain in the ass and you two could never get along long enough to stitch together a real relationship.
But Robin sees through all of that shit. And she’s over it.
“Okay, maybe, but she listens when you talk about cars, and you buy the albums she likes even when she only mentions them once. Plus, you both love Dustin like he's an extra limb”—she’s right, you love that kid to death and Lord knows Steve looks after him like a son—“I think as much as you wretch and complain over her being too young and the connection not 'being there', it seems like you try an awful lot to get her to like you."
He immediately rejects the idea with a scoff.
"Of course I’d want a cool person to like me, old fuckin’ habits die hard. But that's all. She's cool and has a good sense of style and tells the best jokes and makes me feel smart and listens to me, and right now I'm feeling pretty crazy because maybe I do love her and I blew it because... because? Because I don’t know why—but she's probably sitting in some jerk's car listening to her favorite songs and watching him paint the sunset while speaking Spanish or whatever."
Robin closes her eyes, and Steve’s annoyed by the fact that he can hear her smirking. "Jesus Christ, I need to start charging you idiots for my time"—and she sighs—"Just... tell her all that cheese. And maybe throw in an apology or two. I don't know, do what you usually do when you pick up girls.”
He’s frustrated. And annoyed. But he throws a thanks at her anyway and stomps down the stairs and to his beamer. It’s not until he’s shrouded in the piercing light of the convenience store that he realizes three things: he’s still in his work uniform, it’s midnight, and he’s pretty sure he does love you. He grabs a bouquet, not even realizing it’s a bouquet of amaryllis and baby’s breath—he’d prefer roses, but ‘tis not the season, as the cashier told him.
Minutes later, he’s muttering under his breath like he’s mad, waiting for someone to answer your door. And thank God you do.
“Steve—?”
“Oh, shit, did I—were you—?”
“Oh, no, I was just…”—thinking about him—“nothin’. What’re you doing here?”
He pushes a furious hand through his hair, then tucks a chunk behind his ear, worrying at his bottom lip. More nervous than he’s been in his whole life. Then he flashes those soft brown eyes at you, and you’re toast. You step onto your doormat and shut the door behind you because he starts into his sentence like a blazing fire:
"I feel so stupid, and I’m sorry for saying you're like a little sister to me; I don’t believe that, and it couldn’t be further from the truth. You're not like a sister to me, you're like the only thing that matters and I feel like I wanna learn another language for you and take a cooking class for you and listen to your music with you. I just, I mean I’m trying to say you make me want to be a better person, and I feel like I’m already a better person whenever I’m around you. I... what I’m saying—and I promise I’m getting to it—is that I’m sorry for being so stupid and not seeing it before, but I think you're beautiful and I'd be honored if you'd forgive me and maybe consider letting me take you out sometime. Like on a date."
He’s breathing heavily, looking and feeling manic, and your eyes are wide as you slowly process his confession. It goes down like sweet wine, floral down your throat and settling in your tummy like candy. But still: what the fuck? Is he insane? Are you insane?
His hair is flopped to one side, and his work vest is snug around his shoulders. You step forward slowly, and the creases in his forehead seem to go smooth. And you point to the bouquet.
“For me?”
Steve glances down. "Oh, yeah, got em for you. Sorry they're not roses, it's not—"
"I love them, thank you."
He nods. And you smile. And despite how beautiful the soft pink and white flowers are, you’re not particularly focused on their safety when you hook your arms beneath his and rope him into a hug. It’s clearly just what he needed when he goes pliant and heavy against your chest, smiling into your neck as his hands wrap over your shoulders.
"I think we might both be stupid,” you whisper.
He chuckles. "Yup. Just a couple of stupids. Geez, what kinda pair are we?" You both pull away. Only to look at each other squarely. To see a smile creep and creep across the other’s face. And he cocks a brow and says, "By the way, worst twenty-four hours of my life—"
And that’s saying something after the last three years.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, Steve, I was just so—"
"I know."
"So confused and disappointed, it was—"
"Torture, yeah, don't even think about doing that ever again,” he teases, pinching your side and scrunching his nose when you pinch him back.
"Yeah. Well, never tell me I’m like a little sister to you ever again.”
Gross.
"I don't plan on it"
With the slow bat of your lashes, and the tender curve of your lips, he can’t not think about kissing you. Not in this light. Not under the meddling moon, and not holding your waist like cupping pools of honey.
Then you look away. For all the shit you talk, he manages to make you far more shy than he ever anticipates. And it gives him butterflies to see you duck away.
"You know, I think you're pretty beautiful yourself, Harrington.”
Oh, he’s blushing now. The blood gushes hot to his face, he could sweat buckets right here and now. You can probably hear his heartbeat. Jesus Christ, what’ve you done to him? You can tell he’s nervous when he chuckles softly. "Does this mean I can start giving you rides again?"
You pretend to weigh your options. As if there would ever be a better alternative. "Only if you let me play my music sometimes.”
"Absolutely. I never liked the radio much anyway."
You let go of him only to cradle your bouquet in both hands, admiring the petals while Steve puts his hands back in his pockets.
"Then I'll see you later," he says. Grinning ear to ear, mind you.
"Yeah,” you coo, “I’ll see you."
With one hand on his shoulder, you plant a kiss on his willing cheek and let him go. But before he can make it to his car you holler, “Wait!” and he jogs back over to you.
"Did I forget somethin’?"
“Yeah,” you poke, "you forgot about our date."
He tilts his head a little, brows furrowed. "Our... our date? What do you mean our… Ohhhh”—he nods in understanding, suddenly hit with a wave of excitement and embarrassment—"Does tomorrow work? We could grab lunch or dinner or something and maybe stop by the arcade or—oh, the fair's in town, that could be kinda fun, unless you don't want to, I mean—"
"Steve?" you hum.
“Mhm?”
"I'd love to."
And suddenly his ego is miles through the roof; he's nodding and grinning and it’s like he can’t wait to wake up tomorrow just to see you again.
"Me too. Okay. Yeah! I'll see you then."
"Bye, Stevie.” You give him a small wave, and the shroud of plastic around the bouquet crinkles like the corners of his eyes at the idea of tomorrow.

(I only mention the first song but the other two are more for the… spicy scene😏)
——
The only escape from reality you had was the small moments of disassociation you had between the screaming of your children and the-
"Are you fucking kidding me?!"
The shouting of your overgrown child of a husband playing his stupid games on his stupid PS5 that you wanted to set on fucking fire. This is not the life you pictured as a stay-at-home mom, yes the piles of dirty laundry were expected, and the mountainous dishes in the sink but you never predicted you'd be doing this alone. Your own mother stayed at home with you and your two brothers but your dad would still help her around the house so that she got the time to kick her feet up and relax.
You never got that.
You were living with this dark cloud over your head and deep regrets in your mind, why did you marry this man? You did think he was the love of your life, three years together before you got married proved your theory but never did you think it was going to end up like this. The amount of work you did was overwhelming, just one look at the number of toys on the floor made tears sting your eyes. You were tired, exhausted, drained and absolutely depleted.
If this was a job, you'd quit, you would take your children and quit. You wanted to so badly but the small hope of him changing clung to you like a piece of lint. You sighed holding your eleven-month-old on your hip while you made him a bottle, anything to keep him from wailing in your ears-- Jesus, half the time you couldn't hear.
"Babe!"
Your eyes rolled, you loathed his voice at this point. "What?"
"Can you pass me a water bottle?"
"Get up and get it, I'm making Malakai a bottle."
He groaned. "For fuck sake, you're in the kitchen already."
Your nostrils flared, and your eye twitched. You wanted to cuss at him, shout at him until your voice box shattered but you kept whatever calm you had left and ignored him. A small hand landed on your nose and you smiled kissing the tiny palm. "I love you too bubba."
He flashed a little smile and your heart sobbed at the fact that your last baby was growing so fast, teeth already emerging from his gums when just months ago he didn't have any. You could never regret your three little creatures, you loved them dearly, so much so you were willing to put up with the man that helped you create them just so they could have a two-parent household but you didn't know how much longer you could take this.
Heavy footsteps trailed inside the kitchen, you could tell he was angry at the fact that he had to pause his little game just to grab some water. He looked over the sink, utterly disgusted by the site in front of him and instead of just keeping his mouth shut or for once volunteering to do them he decided to spit out a sentence that made you want to knock his head off with the glass bottle you were holding; "You need to wash the dishes."
Your blood was boiling, if life was a cartoon you'd have steam coming out of your ears. "Why don't you get off of the game and do them?" You bit.
He cracked open the bottle cap. "Hey, I'm the one that works all week, you just stay home and do nothing."
Nothing? NOTHING!?
That was it.
That was the tip of the iceberg.
Your shoulders dropped and he left the kitchen, there was that ringing in your ears again that came and went every time you zoned out. Ever since you got married you'd felt nothing but unappreciated by him, you quit your job to stay home with your children and not even a thank you, you made sure he had a good meal when he went to work and all you got in return was an "it was okay." And the disgustingly dirty dish tossed right in the sink you'd just emptied. You were at the end of your rope.
You held back your tears and lightly kissed your son on his head handing him his bottle and putting him on a beam bag so he could lay down and drink. You trotted upstairs to check in on your oldest twins who were in their room colouring and getting along for once. Then you headed to the bathroom locking the door behind you, your body sliding down to the floor, you curled up in a ball burying your head between your knees you let out a long and heavy sigh before your river of tears took over.
A cry session your body and mind were so used to. You wailed into the void, muffling your weeps so that your children wouldn't hear you and come asking what was wrong, a question you couldn't answer without them turning on their father and you didn't want to ruin that relationship they had with him.
You were just so tired.
--
As night fell you remained mute when it came to your husband, whatever he had to say you didn't respond to, you were just happy that it was Sunday and soon he'd be out of your face for a few hours.
With the kids all asleep you were in the kitchen on FaceTime with your older brother. "The kids are great, they're sleeping." You conversed.
"And how have you been?"
There was no hiding how you felt when it came to your siblings, you were the baby and the only girl so when you were hurt they knew and they'd do whatever they could to fix it. "I'm okay... I'll be okay." You reassured. He was the only one who knew some small details about what you were going through and you begged him not to say anything not even to your mother until you figured out how to deal with everything yourself.
"Hey, listen, Jordyn is going on vacation next week, she's hitting Fiji, and I think you should go with her."
You squinched up your face, you didn't have a problem with your brother's wife, always so thankful for the sister you never got but what about your kids? Could you even trust that man to take over your duties even for a day?
As if he read your mind he continued. "I mean it'll be summer break next week, and they can stay by me if you want. I just, I really think you need time away from life. I want to see my little sister happy."
You pouted, it really touched your heart how concerned he was. A vacation would be wonderful, it was all you could dream of after the kids were born, you loved them but you just wanted to be by yourself.
"I'll think about it."
"Well, don't think too hard." He joked. "Whatever. I gotta get their lunches together, I'll call you when I make my decision."
"Sounds good, night."
"Night."
The call ended and you finished packing the twins' lunch placing the bags on the only empty spot on the counter. You huffed at the dishes and your husband's words replayed in your head. Nothing. You do absolutely nothing.
The longer you stared a vengeful plan began to brew. You were about to show him what doing nothing meant.
--
You decided you were going on that trip, Jordyn was excited and your brother was happy with your choice. The week flew by quickly, you kept up your normal appearance of keeping the house clean and to your husband's liking and by each day you grew more distant from him not like he cared in the first place.
On the last day of school you explained to the twins that you were taking a trip with Aunty Jordyn and they, unfortunately, couldn't come but they'd be staying with their uncle and they'd loved that man to death so they were excited either way. Your house was a mess and for once you smiled at it, you'd been letting everything pile up for the last two days, packing the clean clothes they did have in advance. The only explanation you gave your husband was that they were all staying by your brother for the week but you didn't mention that you weren't coming back.
You were leaving tonight and there would be no stopping you. You loaded the van with their stuff and yours and hollered for them to get their little butts in the car. "Last one in the car has stinky feet!" You laughed at the building volume of stomping feet coming across the hall and down the stairs, your twins were out and your youngest sat on your hip giggling at their antics. You happily wrote a short note.
Bye.
That's it.
You showered your baby in kisses and grabbed your keys before heading out the door, you locked it and made your way to the car, buckling in your baby and making sure the other two were in securely. You closed the door and first time in a long time you felt a weight off your shoulders, you smiled in satisfaction at how you left the house knowing you were not going to answer a single phone call from that man.
--
Jordyn squealed. "Ugh! I am so excited I don't even know what to do with myself!" You laughed at her enthusiasm as you put your hair up in a ponytail. It was day 2 of your trip and you were living life, you couldn't remember the last time you felt this relaxed. Now, of course, you missed your children it'd been the longest you'd ever been apart from them so you were a bit clingy with the calls but it was all understandable.
You two were hitting the beach today and you were a bit nervous, nobody had seen your body in almost a year not even your husband but Jordyn had persuaded you to find your behind in a two-piece bikini and you argued that you'd wear it as long as you could wear a cover-up so it was a deal. You looked yourself over in the mirror, you felt oddly confident. You looked fucking good. Three kids did your body right.
"You sure you want that cover-up?" She teased watching you admire yourself. "Hmm," You angled your lower half so you could check out your bum, how plump it had become over the years. "Maybe not."
She winked. "That's my girl."
You two grabbed what you needed and headed down to the beach which was right in front of the hotel you were staying at. The slight wind brushed against the water sending a cool and comforting breeze your way, your ears wiggled at the sound of the waves, and the giggles of other vacationers enjoying their time like you were.
The cushiony sand had greeted your toes after overflowing onto your sandals. You two travelled until you found a decent spot, it was close to the bar and the body of water. You set up your area as best as you could but you were in a battle with the beach umbrella Jordyn insisted on bringing. She watched with her hand covering her mouth to camouflage her laughter. "Okay, you know what, I'll handle this and you go handle us some drinks."
You childishly stuck out your tongue and strutted your way over to the bar, you hopped on an available stool. The bartender noticed you asking for you to just give him a minute. "No worries." You responded. You went on your phone and checked the many pictures your brother sent of your children, you smiled and a bit of sadness tugged at your heart. You missed your babies dearly.
The number of messages went up and it could only be one person. You promised you wouldn't look but you just had to, you swiped and tapped on your husband's name.
Where the fuck are you!?
The house is a fucking mess!
I'm not cleaning up, I hope you know that.
Baby, come on, we can work this out. Please.
You scoffed at the last message and put your phone down casually being greeted by the bartender who watched your various emotions while you went through your phone. "Everything's okay?"
Oh. Wow.
He presented a sweet smile, your eyes slightly widening at the sight in front of you. He was handsome, scratch that, he was fine as fuck. The shaved head didn't usually work on a lot of men but it did him justice, the scattered tattoos on his pretty and tanned skin, his broad shoulders that looked like they were made for legs to be hooked on and not to mention his big arms that looked like they could hold you snug and tight all through the night.
"Uh, yeah, everything's... everything is good." You stammered, a queasy feeling crept through you as it settled in your lower stomach. Butterflies? But you couldn't even remember what that felt like in order to come to that conclusion.
"Good to know. What can I get you, ma?"
You shuddered at his voice. He could talk to you all day.
"One Long Island, and one Piña Colada please."
He nodded. "Starting off slow I see." He chuckled. "Eh, we're on vacation, gotta soak it all up before we go back."
"I see," He multitasked making your drinks and conversing. "And when does the pretty lady go back?"
You blushed, should you even tell this literal stranger when you're actually leaving? But he felt... comfortable, easy to talk to and it's not like you'd ever see him again. "End of the week."
"Oh, you have plenty of time to get shit-faced." He encouraged. He'd finished your order and placed the liquored-down drinks in front of you. "Don't worry about paying yeah? It's on the house. Enjoy your vacation pretty lady."
"Y/n... you could just call me Y/n."
Not like you wanted him to, pretty lady was working just fine
"Nice to meet you. Oscar... Diaz." He winked. "Thanks, for the drinks."
"Anytime, pretty lady."
Your legs felt wonky as you walked away, and your breathing quickened. You did your best to walk back to Jordyn without looking back, if you did you were pretty sure you'd fall, just clumsy as fuck. "Girl, that man was watching you walk away." She whispered. "Stop." You poked, shoving her drink toward her. "Oh please, his eyes were on you." Jordyn gazed over to the bar, "He's still staring."
You casually whipped your head around and sucked your teeth when you noticed he wasn't. You glared at her. She snickered taking a sip from her Long Island. "Makes good drinks too."
You sighed, "Shut up."
The topic was silenced, you downed a few more drinks but sent Jordyn to get them instead while you swam around in the cooling water, floating around enjoying the peace the water brought you. But you couldn't help but occasionally look over to the bar. Oscar Diaz... nice name. Nice face. Cute little moustache that sat above his lips and a goatee that sat below. Pretty rosy pink lips...
Your eyes darted away. You're married.
Are you though?
You swam back up to the beach, it was beginning to get dark and the patrons on the beach became scarce. You wrapped yourself in a towel and collected anything Jordyn hadn't packed up yet. "You want one more drink before they close up? Maybe your new friend will allow it." She teased. You took off your flip-flop and threw it at her but your reaction only made her laugh.
A familiar voice was heard behind you. "So she's beautiful and she's got good aim, better watch out."
You quietly gasped. "Hi... Oscar."
"Hey, uhm, listen I own a club not too far from here and you know it's a decent hangout for the locals... and the visitors." He winked. "Wanted to know if you two would like to come check it out?"
You fought back a smile. "We could try." You answer without even thinking. "I'll take that," He reached into his pocket handing you a folded piece of paper, you assumed had the address of the place he owned. Your fingers brushed against his, prickles felt like they were forming on your skin and those weird feelings returned in your lower stomach.
He sent you another wink and headed back off to the bar to close up.
--
Of course, Jordyn was down to go. You groaned internally as you two pulled up to a crowded place, looking up at the illuminated sign reading Cloud 9. Hmm, cute. You pulled down your dress as it rose up with each step, your heels clicking against the cold ground, the music booming so loud you could feel your body vibrating the closer you got to the entrance, flashing lights of different colours beamed through the door every time it opened blinding whoever entered. "Where's your friend?" Jordyn asked. "Have patience, I just told him we got here."
"Mhm." She sassed. Your heart thumped in your ears, it pounded against your chest. What were you doing? It was a question you asked yourself from the moment you got back to your room and began to get ready for tonight. You shook off your thoughts and shifted your eyes over to a black door that slowly began to open. "Hey, over here." Oscar waved you two over and you followed. "What's going on, pretty lady?... And pretty lady's friend."
Jordyn nodded at him as a silent greeting, she was just here to observe your anxious behaviour for her entertainment. "Come on," You followed him through a dimly lit hallway and up a flight of stairs, your nerves building and sudden regret forming in your bones until you entered a brighter atmosphere, the loud music returning to your eardrums. He had led you two to a section that only had a few people, you could assume it was the VIP section.
"Anything you two want to drink just let me know and I got you."
Jordyn raised her eyebrows at the tempting bottle of unopened champagne sitting in a bucket of ice. Oscar chuckled granting her permission to open it, she shimmied her shoulders in excitement and got to work. You shook your head at her, you travelled over to the balcony and looks down at all the patrons having the time of their lives, a few familiar faces from the resort and others that weren't recognizable which you could only assume were locals.
Oscar found his place beside you and nudged your shoulder with his. "You want anything to drink?"
"No, not yet, I'm good."
He slowly nodded. "So, what are you doing in Fiji? Besides vacationing."
You huffed, "I just needed time to myself... to get away from shit."
"I hear that." You could just feel those sweet and curious brown eyes boring into the side of your head, you poked the inside of your cheek with your tongue and looked down at your shoes, just anything to not make eye contact with him. You were shy, you were never shy not even with your husband when you first met him. It's like this was a new feeling, you were queasy and nervous and it honestly felt good in a weird way-- it felt good to not be comfortable, to get all flustered over someone like a schoolgirl crush.
"You really own this place?"
He scrunched up his face. "Half own, I guess. My brother and I came here for an escape just like you and we ended up staying. Now, we own Cloud Nine and I work down at the resort once in a while."
"Oh, you're a busy man."
"I try to be." Oscar chuckled. He was so easy to talk to, why was he so easy to talk to?
You found yourself moving a bit closer. "What were you trying to escape from?"
"Life. I wasn't happy where I was living and I wanted better but... given the circumstances, we just couldn't get it. So I threw a dart on a map, so to speak, it landed on Fiji and we've been here ever since."
"Where are you from then?"
"Originally born in Mexico, we moved to LA, and then out here."
"Would you ever go back to the States?" You asked finally looking up at him knowing he hadn't taken his eyes off you all night. He leaned forward, officially entering your bubble. "If I had a good enough reason... yeah."
You looked up at him through your lashes and softly smiled, meanwhile, Jordyn sat on the couch sipping and shaking her head at the sight in front of her. She would playfully scold you in the morning but tonight she'd let you have your harmless fun.
As the party went on you were getting a bit bored being upstairs so you grabbed your girl and headed downstairs to where the crowd was and of course Oscar was right behind you, he felt a sense of protection over you two tonight given this was your first time out here and inside his establishment. You had found enough confidence to start dancing around, a little two-step from left to right to get you going, but soon the constant flow of drinks Jordyn handed you helped you loosen out of that as well.
The DJ was beginning to play all the oldies, and that was your specialty. Oscar watched in adornment as you killed every lyric, every adlib and every beat to whichever song came on. It had transitioned from a bit of Hip-hop to something a lot slower.
"Right now, we're gonna slow it down a bit, so grab your lovers and take your time."
The lights changed to blue and a recognizable first note had you close your eyes.
Mmm ooooh, my my my my my my my babyyy ouuuuuu
Jordyn had already found herself dancing with a random woman. She looked widened her eyes at you and quickly flicked them over to Oscar, trying her best to encourage you to make your move. But he was faster. You felt yourself being pulled into his warm embrace, his strong chest against your exposed back, his hands carefully snaking around your waist as if he was worried about you rejecting his touch but you gladly welcomed it.
Melting into his hold you two swayed side to side, he leaned down comfortably nuzzling his head into the crook of your neck. You were lost in the vibes of Keith Sweat's Right and a Wrong Way. You reached back hooking your arm around his neck lightly scratching his scalp with your nails. "You smell so good, mamita." He whispered, it was a miracle that you heard him. Your lips parted slightly as you felt his warm breath tickle your skin. His swift hands ran up your sides resting right under your breasts and gliding back down to your hips.
A thumping began between your thighs, now that was something you hadn't felt in a long time. You put that feeling to the side no matter how hard it was to do so. The rest of the night it felt like all the songs were targeted for just you two, you hadn't eased up on him once-- always in close proximity to him. He touched you in simple ways, ways you hadn't been touched in almost a year.
It was getting super late, almost three in the morning and you couldn't recall the last time you were out like this, it'd give you hell when you woke up but it was worth it. You and Jordyn rode back to the resort with Oscar, she exited the car first thanking him for the night out and wobbling her way inside. You giggled watching her walk away, "I should get in there before she tries the key on the wrong room."
But you didn't want to leave him.
And he didn't want to leave you.
"Thanks for tonight, I had a lot of fun."
"No problem, anything to help a pretty lady escape." He bit his lip. "What are your plans for tomorrow?"
"Recovering," You laughed, "But other than that nothing."
"Can I see you again?"
You gulped and nodded. "Mhm."
He laid out his palm your eyebrows furrowed as you rested yours on top of his, he brought the back of your hand to his lips and placed such a gentle kiss on your skin. "Goodnight, mamita."
You wanted to scream. You left the car putting a little swing in your hips as you walked away, you looked over your shoulder and sent him a cute little wave before disappearing behind the doors.
— —
And that's how you spent the rest of your trip, shamelessly flirting with Oscar. You got to know each other a lot more, when you weren't spending time with Jordyn you were with him. Giggling like an airhead and blushing red like Rudolph's nose.
Jordyn constantly teases you about the crush you'd seem to quickly develop.
"Is this stupid?" You ask shoving your face in the pillow. This all felt too good to be fucking true, a guy that you met only four days ago was treating you so much better than the man you married four years ago. Oscar had flowers for you at the front desk of the resort every morning and sent you the sweetest messages throughout the day about how he was thinking of you, how he caught a glimpse of you today and you looked stunning, calling you the prettiest woman he'd ever seen step on this island.
You convinced yourself they were all lies, sugarcoating you like he probably did every woman but who were you fooling? Certainly not yourself and certainly not Jordyn.
"It's not."
"I'm married." You argued tiredly to which she fake yawned. "I don't see a ring on that finger and I don't see that man treating you any better than Oscar has. Just saying."
The fingers on your right hand brushed your vacant ring finger, you'd taken it off the minute you got on the plane, you didn't want to be reminded of him on this trip at all and yet there was that piece in the back of your mind that reached out to him. Checking his messages once in a while but never responding, he was giving you the attention you wanted but it didn't feel right.
The fact that you had to spontaneously leave to get even a fraction of what you were asking for was bullshit. Downright bullshit.
You groaned sitting up the pads of your fingers now rubbing your temples, tired and stressed. The trip was almost over and you dreaded going back to that house that was no longer a home. He'd sent you pictures that he'd finally cleaned up but you had a feeling once you returned home things would go back to the way they were and you did not want that.
"I think your brother would agree with me, you've smiled more in these past few days than I've seen back home, I mean you two are always so distant when you come over. And don't think I don't hear your rants when you and your brother are on the phone. Now I don't condone cheating but, hey, I didn't see shit."
You sighed checking your phone for any recent texts from your husband but Jordyn caught wind of what you were doing and snatched your device. "Enough with him. Flirt and have fun before you have to go back to normalcy."
You heard your phone buzz in her hand, she looked at the message for you. "Speaking of, someone is downstairs."
You felt nauseous. "Where are you two going anyway?"
"Down to the beach, said he has to restock the bar... and I wanted to spend time with him so I offered to help."
"Mhm." She winked. You grabbed your phone back from her grasp and told her you'd be back soon. You left your room, entered the elevator and headed downstairs where Oscar was happily waiting for you. "Hola querida." He become more comfortable speaking Spanish around you, especially when he noticed how the little nicknames got a reaction out of you.
"Hi," Oscar noticed the shaky tone in your response and made note of it You had comfortably slipped your hand inside his, he immediately hooked his fingers in the spaces of yours. Like he was your puzzle piece.
You two headed down to the decent-sized Hut, your eyes widened at the number of boxes sitting on the sand. "Don't worry, I got the heavy bottles, you just get the small ones." He reassured pressing a kiss to the top of your head. You loved those, so innocent and sweet, although you wish sometimes he'd kiss you on your lips or you had to courage to kiss his. "Think I can't handle the big boxes?" You scoffed walking inside after him.
"I think you can, I just don't think my pretty lady needs to."
My pretty lady.
ugh!
With music playing in the background you two got to work, "Do you still think about running your own restaurant?" You asked sparking a conversation, you squatted down to the lower shelves and propped the glass bottles in an organized fashion, eyes tearing through the material of your sundress and you could feel them. "I do, yeah. Why?"
You bit your lip. "Would it still be down here?"
There was a beat of silence. "Most likely."
Another pause in the moment aside from your soft humming to the music. "You excited to see your kids?" He asked. You smiled at the mere thought of them. "I am. My three little headaches." Oscar found himself next to you, leaning against the counter, you stopped your movements and looked up-- he had one arm folded over the other and a bit of a scowl on his face.
"What?" You innocently question standing up to match his eye line, well more-like chest line. "Nothing, just trying to take my time to remember this face." He reached for your cheek, his fingers ghosting your flesh. "You flirt like this with all the girls here?"
A question that was supposed to come out jokingly but you were a bit serious. "Nah," You squinted at him watching his lips press together, his chest stuttering as he held back a laugh. "You asshole, I knew it." A dramatic hand to your heart as you playfully pouted at him and fake cried. Oscar's arms enveloped you in their warmth, you attempted to push him off but it was no use, your feet suddenly off the ground, you squealed and giggled as he switched positions with you plopping you on top of the counter.
He placed his palms flat on the side of your thighs while he was positioned comfortably between them. "To be fair, hermosa, it is kind of my job. But believe me when I say I've never spent any time with them. And I've definitely never brought them back here after hours." His thumb and pointer finger pinching your chin. "Just you, princesa."
You melted, your whole body could be seen physically slumping in his hold. His eyes sparkled while he looked at you, the crinkles in his eyes appearing as he smirked. Before you could comprehend anything his lips brushed yours, your head suddenly becoming foggy with the inappropriate images of him that you'd conjured up these past few days.
His nimble fingers danced along the hem of your dress, a rush of heat passing over you as he hiked it up further exposing more of your flesh.
This was no longer a want... it was a need.
Your hands landed right under his jaw as you pulled him in crashing your lips onto his and he happily reciprocated your energy, his hands wandered up to your hips tugging you closer to him as if it were possible. Your lips moved as one, tongues passing by in the heat of the moment, the only thing on your mind was him and you wanted it to remain so for as long as possible.
Tingles scattered around your body, both of you flushed with lust and arousal. Your hands travelled to the bottom of his shirt quietly begging for him to take it off, you needed to feel his skin, thankfully he got the message-- pulling away for a brief moment to remove his top. Your eyes glazed over his lightly tanned skin, little scars here and there you can only presume he earned before he got here.
You smiled at the strewed ink on his torso, chest and ribs. "What are you thinking about?" He inquired. You looked back up into his brown iris'. "I wish I had met you first." You mumbled drawing him back down, this kiss was a lot more passionate and slow unlike the first.
Oscar's hands gently tugged at the neckline of your dress, your breasts spilling over and his calloused hands finding them. You softly moaned against his lips, your nipples hardening from the cool breeze and his fondling. He pinched and rolled them between his fingers, your head tipped back and his teeth nipped at the column of your neck.
You were forming a small pool in your panties at his teasing. His tongue grazed your neck continuously licking and sucking a specific spot that was getting a squirming reaction out of you. You felt his devilish smile, he knew what he was doing to you and he liked it.
His hands moved from torturing your swollen breasts back down to your thighs shoving your dress up until your little black panties were on display. You sat on the edge of the counter making it a bit easier for him to remove them, the cool air hitting your soaking slit.
"Touch me, please, touch me." You whined not caring about how desperate and needy you sounded. Oscar listened to your pleas and dipped one hand between your legs, his fingers quickly finding your slick folds. You shuddered as he glided two fingers up and down, dipping them inside you once in a while.
You were soaking, you were throbbing, and you just wanted him inside you where he fucking belonged. He slowly plunged his fingers inside, you clench around them happy to have something pleasuring you. Your eyes are closed and your legs spread further for him, nails digging into his shoulder blade hopefully leaving little indents.
He pumped them in and out of you with the squidgy noise of your wetness to follow. "Yes... oh yes, like that."
Oscar felt himself twitch under his boxers using his other hand to undo his belt and pulled down his materials. His dick is hard and his tip a rosy pink turning cherry red oozing with a bit of cream, his hips buckled once his hand brushed over it-- equally as desperate as you were. Your erotic moans were like music to his ears, so much sexier than he could've pictured. You whined once he removed them your hole flexing around nothing as you caught your breath.
Oscar hooked your legs over his arms spreading you to his desire, you reached between your bodies firmly (but not too tight) grasping his length and guiding it to your entrance, his swollen head prodding inside you as the rest of him followed.
Your jaw slacked at the feeling of him deliciously stretching you out, he was so thick and it felt so nice. Oscar croaked out a moan while burying himself deep inside your warmth-- coating his dick with your sticky walls, so slick and welcoming that he didn't want to move.
You caressed the back of his neck as he pressed another kiss on yours, trailing it up the side and finally landing on your mouth. You giggled into the kiss, Oscar pulled back with a questioning look. "I can't tell the last time I felt like this." You mumbled under your breath but he heard you. He didn't want you to leave, hell if you didn't have kids he'd probably try to convince you to move out here with him.
He didn't say anything in response just pulled out and pushed back in. "Fuck." You both moaned.
His head dipped back down, nibbling on your sweet skin.
You whimpered through every tantalizing stroke he gave you, his tip poking right at your hot spot and you knew you wouldn't last. "You feel so good!" A sentence broken by little gasps. Oscar grunted, violently gripping your thighs as he pounded you, pulling the filthiest sounds from your pretty little throat. So loud and erotic he was sure they could hear you back at the resort.
Your eyes squeeze in absolute bliss, your head hazy from the constant pleasure you received, quickly feeling a sensation in your lower belly a wave of heat threatening to take over. Your palm lay flat on his back while the other gripped the edge of the counter.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck! Oscar!"
He lifted you off the counter a bit, relentlessly slamming into you now. Your high getting closer and closer. "I can, shit, I can feel you mamita. So fucking tight."
Your toes curled and your eyes rolled. "Baby, ohhh, I need to..."
Oscar smiled. "You wanna cum for me, baby? Come, mi amor, all of it."
His words tipped you off the edge, your back arched and your body trembled from the shockwaves of your orgasm, he held you closely revelling in your pulsating pussy dripping down his shaft.
He quickly brought you off the countertop, your wobbly legs barely holding your support. He turned you around, you barely recovered from the first position.
You were sensitive and extra wet just how he wanted you. You flinched when he pressed himself against your entrance once again, pushing in ever so carefully. "Fuck... you."
He laughed menacingly, his hands squeezing your hips. "That's what I'm doin' pretty lady."
You wanted to give him a smart-ass answer but it was cut short when he began to move. Your nipples were hard against the surface, you rested your head down and whined. "So fucking good."
"Yeah?" He chuckled spanking you. He was enjoying the pornographic sounds that you provided, all going straight to his dick.
He wrapped his arm around your waist pulling you up against him, back pressed on his chest, his warm breath in your ear. "Can't get enough of you I swear." He admitted.
He poked and prodded against that familiar spot, tears of overwhelming pleasure threatening to spill when he pinched your nipple. "Fuck! I'm gonna miss you, so fucking much."
"You gonna think about me?"
"Yes! Oh!"
You felt him twitch inside you, you smiled egging him on. "I won't stop thinking about you, when I touch myself I'll picture it's you-"
"Fuck, cariño,"
"Ou, you're the only one I want inside me."
You convulsed around him feeling another orgasm quickly building and getting ready to fall apart. A few more thrusts and Oscar held himself still inside you, your body shivering at the warm cream he just spilled inside you. His high triggering yours. You reached behind hooking your arm around his now sweaty neck.
The sound of the wind against the water and the waves crashing describe exactly how you felt right now.
"Oh... my god." You said breathlessly.
"You're okay?" He asked with a laugh. You giggled tipping your head back on to his shoulder. "Better than okay."
He sighed kissing your back. "I meant it..." You said.
"What?"
"I'm gonna miss you."
He smiled sheepishly. "I'll miss you too."
--
Those moments replayed in your head constantly, it was the only thing getting you by once you came back home. You two still talked every day, called and FaceTimed but it wasn't enough. You would stare at the prices of tickets and sigh, you couldn't afford to go back right now.
Your life was the same, unloved and unappreciated, despite the embarrassingly desperate messages your husband had sent when you were on your trip. You stared at another pile of dishes, your shoulder sinking with exhaustion. With your two older ones at school and your son almost an hour into his nap you decided to just relax. You clicked on Netflix and attempted to finish Bridgerton's, Queen Charlotte.
Your eyelids felt heavy, sleep threatened to take over but the doorbell had them shoot open. It wasn't just one ring it was multiple and it was annoying so you assumed it was your brother. You groaned trudging to the door. You swung it open aggressively, ready to give him a piece of your mind. "You're going to wake-"
There he was. Standing in front of you, on your doorstep... at your house. "O-Oscar..." You poked his chest to see if he was really there. "Said I'd come back when I have a good reason." Your eyes softened, your arms reaching for him. His lips immediately find yours. "I," kiss, "fucking," kiss "missed you."
Your legs wrapped around his waist as he stepped inside closing the door. He carried you over to the couch and plopped you on the cushions. You laughed, your mood immediately changing with him around. "Jordyn told you where I lived didn't she?"
He nodded. You rolled your eyes. "Of course."
"Not happy to see me?"
You pulled him down for another kiss.
"Beyond happy."
I was going to wait until the weekend to post this but I am a little too excited to get this out.

George Harrison remained an enigma to many people, even those who were close to him. For a man who lectured passionately about karma and the meaning of existence, he seemed self-protective and closed off. Witty when called upon, there were also moments when he could be quite boorish. Perhaps it was because he was only twenty years old when the Beatles became a global sensation. That might not seem particularly young in today’s world of social media fame, but at the time, it was uncharted territory for the kind of adulation he was experiencing.
It was also difficult living in the shadow of Paul and John. In the beginning, they were openly dismissive of him. Paul said he always thought of George as a little brother. At first, John pretended not to know his name and sardonically referred to him as “that kid’’. Ironically, one of George’s compositions, Something, became the most covered song in the Beatles catalogue.
This interview was conducted at George Harrison’s palatial home, Friar Park, in Henley-on-Thames, on November 5, 1980. George was gracious but cool. He made a pot of tea in the drafty, vast kitchen of his 120-room estate, and spent two hours lecturing about Transcendental Meditation and the details of a limited edition of his autobiography, I Me Mine, which is certainly how he must have felt getting out on his own.
In 2000, George was diagnosed with oropharyngeal cancer. George died on November 29, 2001, in the company of his wife, Olivia; his son, Dhani; musician Ravi Shankar; and Hare Krishna devotees who chanted verses from the Bhagavad Gita. He was 58 years old and left nearly $100 million in his will. George told Olivia that he didn’t want to be remembered for being a Beatle, he wanted to be remembered for being a good gardener.

‘It was a transcendental experience that was beyond the mind’
On taking LSD
LSD was just such a violent, big experience. Before it I was totally ignorant, and afterward I knew I was totally ignorant and I was now on my way to having some sort of knowledge. I related it to the childhood experience of Catholicism and going to church on a Sunday and seeing all that phoney baloney. The moment I’d taken LSD, it just made me laugh because I understood it inside, just in a flash. I understood what the whole concept of God or religion was just by seeing it. I could see it in the grass in the trees.
It was an absolute truth; like a light going ching. I took three very powerful trips — big, very important — and then it left me a bit unsure because I had to try and figure something out. By that time I had gotten into Indian music and spent time in India, [and] there was so much about it that felt like home to me. Not the surface that you see — all this poverty and the flies and the shit everywhere — [it] went beyond all that. Smells in the atmosphere and the people’s attitude and the music, the food, the religion, everything about it … home.
‘I’d hear his voice wailing at five in the morning’
On the death of Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones
I liked Brian a lot, and later on, I realised it was probably because we were both Pisces. We both had similar natures. He was also similar in that he had a Keith and a Mick, whereas I had a John and a Paul. We both had that problem of two mighty egos to deal with in order just to try and survive. I was very susceptible to dope, and Brian [Jones] was even more susceptible. He’d come [to my house], and I’d just hear his voice wailing at like five in the morning: “George, Geeooorrgggeeee.” So I’d wake up, see what was going on, and I’d look out the window, and he’d be all white and just shattered walking around the garden — just looking for somewhere to be.
I would always meet him at that time of day and just try to calm him down. And I saw him a lot before he died in that sort of circumstance. The last time I saw him, I think, was when I’d been in hospital to have my tonsils out and he came to see me in hospital and the next week he was gone. He was like all of them who kicked the bucket — it was sad because there were too many pressures, really. Not just the pressure of being famous and having the press hounding you day and night and young fans hounding you day and night. Plus the drugs hounding you day and night.
‘F*** it — I could do better than that’
On his childhood inspiration, Cliff Richard
I remember being a kid of about twelve, dreaming of big motorboats and tropical islands and things which had nothing to do with Liverpool, which was dark and cold. I remember going to see Cliff Richard and thinking, f*** it — I could do better than that.
‘I think being Elvis was lonelier than being one of the Fab Four’
On fame — and Elvis Presley
We kept realising we were getting bigger and bigger until we all realised we couldn’t go anywhere —you couldn’t pick up a paper or turn on a radio or TV without seeing yourself. I mean, it became too much. We became trapped, and that’s why it had to end, is what I think … We were like monkeys in a cage. I think it was helped a bit by the fact that it was four of us, who shared the experience. I mean, there was more than four of us, there was Peter Brown and Brian Epstein, but there was only four of us who were actually the Fab Four — whereas Elvis had an entourage and maybe 15 guys, friends of his, but there was only one man having that experience of what it was like to be Elvis Presley. I think that was far lonelier than being one of the Fab Four because at least we could keep each other laughing or crying or whatever we did to each other. It was definitely an asset being in a group.

Oh yeah, time for a big rant about Hazbin Hotel!!!
I haven’t really had much of a chance to sit down and write about this since I watched the episodes, so things I say are probably going to reflect what others have said. I’m just writing this to gush about the things I love about some particular songs in HH.
I didn’t have any big expectations going into the first episode, because I’d mostly heard negative reviews of the show so far. I had heard that the songs, however, were bright spots, so I really looked out for the songs and listened in every time we were graced with one. The characters are truly the best versions of themselves whenever there’s a song going on, even if they aren’t the main focus of the song. It’s amazing to see, especially since my favorite thing about this show is the characters themselves.
My favorites are “Loser, Baby” & “Stayed Gone” and will probably be the main focus of this post because <3333
“Stayed Gone” is sung by Christian Borle (Vox) and Amir Talai (Alastor) and I could not be happier about it. Their voices are amazing here, and my favorite bits of this song are on repeat in my head.
I also love little visuals like the mug Vox has in the talk show format, the scrolling text in the news show format, or Vox’s error message toward the end of their bantering.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The scrolling text says: “I’m totally not worried about this guy and neither should you be. I totally wrecked his sh*t last time he tried me.”)
Alastor really gets under Vox’s skin and it makes me kick my feet every time. Their dynamic truly is everything, and I’m so excited we got this song that showcases it perfectly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He clearly enjoys it too, what a little jerk.
Speaking of these two, Vox definitely had/has a thing for Al at some point, right? I mean…inviting him to the Vees for a start. Not to mention just the v i b e s. Poor guy though, it’s definitely one-sided.
Tumblr media
I love Al’s use of…modern…lingo. Truly a spectacle. That on top of it being a reveal of Al’s rejection to Vox’s offer 💀 I love this man <333
Last thing about this song, promise, but also I love the casual little lore drops and more pieces to the puzzle of the past that we get. Very exciting! Can’t wait to see how everything fits together once we find more pieces.
Okay okay, moving on. “Loser, Baby” is amazing musically as well as visually.
First things first, I LOVE JAZZ OMG AND IT FITS HUSK’S VIBE AND EVERYTHING SO PERFECTLY???
Keith David’s voice definitely fits Husk in my eyes now, I see it, it works. He’s amazing. Does a fantastic job.
Not to mention Blake Roman’s performance was, of course, incredible as well.
The big, upbeat, brassy sound in this song is amazing and I’m loving the trumpet in it especially (any fellow trumpet players? no?)
I love everything about this song. The visuals, voices, instrumentals, lyrics, message, all of it!
Tumblr media
Husk slowly going from “yeah you kinda suck lmao, but so do I” in order to not make Angel feel like he’s not being genuine, to sneaking in a better message of “we’re not perfect but it’s okay, don’t be so hard on yourself” (and getting Angel to believe/go along with it too!!) is amazing. It’s a perfect example of these characters being the best versions of themselves during musical numbers.
Tumblr media
This song is what solidified Husk as number 2 in my rankings (and I’m sure I’m not the only one). I mean…just look at the way he moves, it’s so silly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(We’re going to ignore the Videoshop watermarks, okay?)
Overall, I’m loving this show so far despite some obvious issues with pacing n such and an overall rocky start. Especially loving the songs, which I think kinda make the show rn.
If anyone wants to add anything (because I definitely didn’t cover a whole lot, just surface level stuff because even this took a while to type out) then please feel free to! Also ask me any questions you’ve got for me concerning stuff that has/will happen(ed) in Hazbin Hotel. I love HH discourse!
Thanks to those of you who read all the way through, sorry for such a long post lol <3

warnings: a terrible date (he gets really touchy but nothing happens), and fluff!!
a/n: sorry this one took me so long, but it’s finally here!!! i’m not the happiest w it but it’s taken forever and i hope u guys enjoy it <33
Working at Family Video wasn’t all that bad. It certainly got better when Robin and—though you’d never tell anyone—Steve joined the staff.
Keith was quite the character, but as a manager, he was mostly chill. He didn’t really care what went on in the store as long as it was still running. But, when you were working there with only him, it got boring, and sometimes weird. Having more people your age there really was great, even if you weren’t one of their biggest fans.
It’s not that you disliked Steve, per say, it’s just that he got on your nerves in such a unique way and you couldn’t stand it. He was an absolute asshole in school, too, which didn’t help his case. You put up with him the best you could, because you enjoyed Robin’s company so much.
She quickly became a really close friend to you, brightening your days when you shared a shift. It was just unfortunate that Steve Harrington came along with that.
You couldn’t deny the boy was pretty, the prettiest ever, probably, but that didn’t mean anything. It didn’t. He was a dork, a huge flirt, and he teased you relentlessly. You gave it right back, and still, he never gave up.
You sighed when he walked into the store for his shift.
“Hey, babe! How’s it goin’ today?”
“Great until you got here, Harrington.”
“Ouch! You wound me, princess.”
“Would you stop calling me that?”
“No! It gets you all flustered and mad.”
God, he was so aggravating.
Steve loved to bother you, loved to have your attention on him even if it wasn’t positive. He didn’t know exactly why you hated him, and he wanted to change it so badly, but he didn’t know how. You were a stubborn person, and no matter what he tried, you still rolled your eyes at the sight of him. So, instead of pouting about it, he forced his way under your skin.
From his place leaning on the counter, he observed you as you restocked shelves. He liked watching the stretch of your arm when you had to put something on the top shelf, the way your hair fell around your face when you bent to a lower shelf. He liked you, really. Robin would tease him for it constantly; having a crush on someone who couldn’t stand him was very Steve of him.
When you finished unloading the box, you walked over to where Steve stood behind the counter. You perched yourself on the small stool near the computer, sighing in boredom and drawing Steve’s attention over to you once more. He didn’t say anything, only eyed you softly, and you took notice.
“What are you looking at?”
“You. Duh.”
“Can you not.”
He’s about to reply, to egg you on, when the bell above the door rings signaling the entrance of a customer. She’s young, about your age, and Steve walks around the counter, saying a quick, ‘duty calls!’
You roll your eyes because you know he’s just going to flirt with her, that he’s just going to get himself another date that won’t work out. You ignore the small punch in your gut at the thought, the irritation you feel at the image of him bringing her flowers and driving her around in his BMW. You hate that image.
He doesn’t notice when the bell rings once again, too busy with his conversation. You notice, though, because the person walking in is Ryan. He was in school with you and Steve, and lately, he’s been trying to get you to agree to go out with him.
“Hey, y/n.”
“Ryan, how can I help you?”
“Well I’m not looking to rent a movie. I’m looking for a date to go see a movie.”
“Are you ever gonna quit?”
“Nope. What do you say? Tonight?”
You spare a glance back at Steve and the customer he has giggling, she’s pretty, you think. There’s that pinch in your gut again and you decide, yes, this time you will agree to go on a date.
“Okay. Fine.”
“Cool. See ya.”
Then, he was walking out.
You felt weird about saying yes, no excitement, no giddiness. But, when you saw Steve ushering the customer out with a hand on her back, you felt better about it.
By the time Family Video was closed and you and Steve were finishing up, you were eager to get out of there, to leave and get your date over with. He noticed your picked up pace, the way you moved quicker than usual.
“What’s with the fire under your ass, princess? Wanna get away from me that badly?”
“Maybe. Or maybe I have a date to go get ready for.”
You don’t know why you told him. It could be because you had to tell someone, or because you wanted him to hear about your plans for once. He’s always mentioning his dates, rubbing it in your face, even. So, it’s quite possible you wanted to get his reaction for once, a taste of his own medicine.
“Really? With who?”
He didn’t mean to sound so shocked, but he hadn’t seen you entertain any flirtatious advances, let alone agree to going out with someone. He was surprised, and, yeah, he was jealous. He wanted to take you out, to pick you up with flowers and compliment you right away. But, he knew better than to hope for that.
“Is it really so hard to believe I’d go out with someone?”
“No! No, I’m just taking it in. Who is it?”
“Ryan.”
“Absolutely not. He’s an asshole, seriously.”
“So were you.”
Were. Like you were finally admitting to having seen the change in him since school. For as much shit as you gave him about ‘King Steve,’ you weren’t blind, you knew he was different. But, that didn’t erase his actions. Not for you.
“I know that. But he still is!”
“Whatever, Steve. I’m gonna go now.”
-
The date was going horribly.
Ryan took you to the movies, which wasn’t bad, but his car was messy and he drove a little too recklessly for your taste. You were tense the whole drive, hands gripping the sides of your seat, deep breaths puffing out of your mouth.
Then, he made you pay for the tickets, even though he’s the one who asked you out because ‘you’re a working lady!’ and stuff like that. The last thing you wanted was for Steve to be right, but he was.
Ryan was still an asshole.
You were kind of grateful he’d chosen the movies, because it meant less talking and getting to eat popcorn. You could put up with that and pretend it went just great when Steve inevitably asked you about it tomorrow. No worries.
As you walked up the steps to your seats, Ryan behind you, no doubt looking at your ass, you were trying to force yourself to have a good time. To really try to have fun even if it wasn’t an ideal situation. Ryan couldn’t be that bad, you could handle him.
You didn’t see it when your date high fived a random guy in the theatre for being there with you.
As the movie went on, Ryan kept trying to hold your hand, to put his arm around you. You weren’t a fan and he clearly wasn’t taking the hint. At some point, you thought he’d finally given up, that he’d just leave it alone.
Unfortunately, you were wrong.
One second, you were just eating popcorn with an annoying date next to you, the next, he was putting his hand on your thigh. You tried shaking your leg to get him to take it off, and it didn’t work. You were getting uncomfortable, so you stood up quickly and muttered a quick excuse that you were going to the bathroom.
He waved you off.
Your heart was beating quickly as you made your way out of the screening room. You needed a way out of this date and you needed it now. You paced in the hallway of the theatre, deserted and warmly lit. Before you could even think about a plan, Ryan was there, grabbing your wrist too tightly.
“Got lost on the way to the bathroom there?”
“No. I actually have to go.”
His grip tightened on you when you tried to walk away, fingertips pushing into the delicate skin of your wrist, bruising and painful.
“You sure about that?”
“Ryan, let go. That hurts.”
“You’ve been teasing me all night. Wearing a fucking skirt and you want to leave?”
“What?”
He threw your wrist out of his grasp, and you massaged the area he’d been holding with your other hand. You knew he was an asshole but you never expected it to be this bad. Your hands were shaking and your breaths weren’t steady. You needed to leave.
“Fucking bitch. You can walk home.”
He stormed off after that, getting in his car and driving off. You watched him go through the glass doors of the theatre. At first, you were one hundred percent happy he was gone, then you remembered you didn’t have a way home anymore and the walk would take you eternity.
The only number that came to your mind was Steve’s, which was odd considering you never used it before. You only knew what it was because of work, having to know all of your coworkers contact information was annoying, but you supposed it worked out for you in the end.
You found the nearest pay phone, shaky hands inserting a coin and dialing Steve’s number. Sighing as you heard the dial tone, cursing yourself for calling him when the phone started ringing. You hadn’t even considered the possibility that he wasn’t home, but you didn't need to because he picked up on the third ring.
“Hello?”
“Steve?”
He was shocked to be hearing your voice on the other side of the phone. He couldn’t figure out for the life of him why you would be calling him. Didn’t you hate him? Or was he wrong about that? His mind was reeling all because of a phone call from you. Maybe he felt something for you that was stronger than like.
He was snapped out of it when you said his name again, quiet and barely there, but he heard it.
“Yeah. Hi. It’s me. Why are you calling? You never call.”
“I know… I just, um, I didn’t know who else to call. I need a ride. Please?”
He noticed the way your voice cracked, the way you had to pause between words like you were trying not to cry. He racked his brain trying to remember where he put his keys.
“Are you okay, princess?”
“Guess you were right. Ryan’s still an asshole. Can you come get me?”
He was standing before you even finished the question. He’d do anything for you.
“Where are you?”
You told him, and he hung up with a promise of being there soon.
-
You all but ran to Steve’s BMW when he arrived, eager to escape the nightmare that was this night. You were so relieved to see him for once and your mind was too frazzled to think about that.
He unlocked the doors for you as soon as he saw you stand from your seat on the curb. He went as far as leaning over the console to open the passenger door for you, giving you the quickest way into his car.
Your mood was evident as soon as you took your spot in the passenger seat. Your leg immediately bouncing up and down, hands fidgeting with the hem of your clothes. Being calm was not happening for you, still on edge from being grabbed and talked down to the way you were.
“Want me to take you home?”
Steve spoke in an almost-whisper. It was like he didn’t want to scare you, to cause you any amount of distress. He could tell that you were anxious, uncomfortable about what happened. He wanted to take it away so badly.
“Yeah. Thanks, Steve.”
Your voice was small, shaky. Your eyes seemed to be permanently teary and the last thing you wanted to do was cry in front of Steve. Over a date.
“Do you wanna talk about it?”
He spared a quick glance over at you as he drove. He noticed the way your bottom lip was wobbling, the way your eyes were squeezed shut so you wouldn’t cry. The car was pulling over before he even realized. The boy just wanted to comfort you, and he couldn’t do that if he was focused on driving.
“Hey, princess. It’s okay. You’re okay. Talk to me.”
“You probably think I’m so stupid.”
The tears were falling now, and you couldn’t stop them. You just felt like an idiot, like you deserved everything Ryan said to you. You felt gross and dirty and all you wanted to do was curl up into a ball on your bed and sob.
“Look at me. I do not think you’re stupid. What happened, sweetheart?”
“He, um, he kept trying to put his hands on me and stuff and-”
“Did he hurt you? Oh my god.”
“Steve. No, nothing happened. He just grabbed my wrist kinda tight and said some stuff and it was humiliating.”
“Your wrist? Can I see?”
You wiped your tears away with the back of your hand before holding it out to Steve, letting him hold your forearm in his gentle grasp.
“Shit. He left bruises.”
“I’m fine.”
He shook his head, a small frown on his face at the image of fucking Ryan hurting you. Steve brought your wrist up to his mouth, kissing your marked skin so lightly you almost missed it.
“You don’t deserve anything he did or said to you, okay? None of it. You’re a great girl.”
He was so soft with you at this moment, so caring and it was like your whole view on him just shifted. All this time you thought he was this egotistical ass, you were too distracted by the banter between the two of you to see how good he was. Maybe the irritation was something else, buried under the false pretence of dislike when in reality he made you smile. He made you think about him constantly.
You get jealous when he gets dates, for fucks sake.
“I’m sorry I’m so mean to you, Steve.”
You felt awful because of it. He deserved more than what you were, better than how you treated him. All this time this pretty, sweet boy was right in front of you and you couldn’t stop teasing him long enough to see that.
You were crying more now, the tears a constant stream down your face leaving small tracks in your makeup.
“Hey. Shhh. No, stop that. It’s okay, listen to me,” he was holding your face in his hands, thumbs swiping at the wetness on your cheeks. He forced you to look at him with his hold on your face, your sad eyes blinking up at him.
“I’m so sorry.”
“Stop, sweet girl. You’re not mean to me, okay? It’s okay. Do you want me to take you home now?”
He was so shocked at the apology you gave him, the genuine sadness he could see all over your features at the idea of hurting him even after the awful night you had.
“Okay.”
“Okay, I’ll drive you home. Please stop crying.”
“I’m sorry. Thank you for getting me.”
“You call me anytime you need to. I’m there.”
As he drove the rest of the way home, your small sniffles breaking the silence in the car, he couldn’t help but think about what you said. The fact that you were taken on this awful date and that wasn’t even what you were the most upset about was killing him. He wanted to hold you and never let go.
He loved you. He knew that now. And you called him when you needed someone.
You called him. Not Robin, not anyone else. Him. That had to mean something.
-
You and Steve were both working the next day, which was going to be awkward.
You cried in front of him. He wiped your tears away and cared for you while you were hurting even after everything.
You did a lot of reflecting last night, after showering off the disgusting feeling of Ryan lingering on you. You realized that all this time, you didn’t actually harbour negative feelings towards Steve, only to the person you once knew him to be.
As soon as you opened your eyes to who he is now, to how you felt when he was around, you realized you liked him. A lot. Maybe more than liked, even, and it was scary.
The decision you made to show up way too early for work paid off because Robin was there, and she’s exactly who you needed to talk to. She was confused to see you an hour before yours and Steve’s shift started, but she welcomed you all the same.
“Hey! Why are you here so early?”
“I really need to talk to you and you can’t say anything until I’m done, okay?”
“Okay, shutting up now!”
“So last night I went on the worst date ever, it was awful and I freaked out and called Steve to come get me because Ryan left me there-”
“Why would you go out with Ryan?”
“Robin!”
“Sorry! I’m actually shutting up this time.”
“So Steve took me home and I cried in front of him in the car. He literally had to pull over and he wiped my tears and stuff. I’m just so confused because I thought I didn’t like him but I was so wrong. So, so wrong. I really like him, I think I love him and I’m freaking out.”
She just stared at you blankly, absorbing everything you just said and making sure you were done talking before she responded. When you simply nodded at her to let her know she could reply, you were surprised with all she had to say.
“Finally!”
“What?”
“You two have had feelings for each other for so long it’s been driving me insane! I mean, seriously, all the teasing and glances. You’re so oblivious to it all, seriously.”
“Why didn’t you tell me!”
“Tell you how you feel? Come on! Steve’s liked you forever, too. Can't you just suck it up and tell him?”
“No! I’ve been so mean to him and why would he want that around him? He’ll never believe me or want to be with me.”
“God, you two are so annoying.”
“Robin!”
You couldn’t believe the idea that Steve liked you a fraction of how much you recently discovered you liked him. After everything you’ve said, everything you put him through, how could he?
You and Robin changed the subject after that, deciding that it was better for you to just think about what was said and what you wanted to do from there. The rest of the time before your shift flew by, and before you knew it, Steve was walking through the door to get to work.
Mostly to see you, though.
Steve’s mind was reeling ever since last night. Thoughts about you, wondering if you were okay, analyzing everything that was said. He couldn’t stop thinking about how you cried, how you let him hold you and how you apologized to him even though he didn’t need it. He was already in love with you, sorry or not.
He decided he would tell you how he felt sometime soon. The time was wasting and after everything he’d been through he couldn’t imagine letting it keep ticking by without trying.
As soon as you heard the bell above the door ring signaling Steve’s entrance, you looked over. His eyes locked onto yours and the seconds seemed to slow then. The world pausing for the two of you.
Robin noticed the moment. She just rolled her eyes and excused herself saying, “that’s my cue!”
You both snapped out of it when she called out a ‘bye lovebirds!’ before walking out of the store, leaving you alone with Steve. He walked behind the counter, leaning on it beside you.
“Hi, princess. How you doing?”
“Steve, I’m okay. Thank you, again. I’m really sorry I made you come get me… and that I cried. That was really embarrassing.”
“Nothing to be embarrassed about. I’m here for you, I mean it.”
“But, I’ve been rude to you.. judged you because of high school. I just feel awful. I don’t deserve your kindness.”
He hated how sad you looked over his feelings. You were the one who had an awful, scary night. Not him. The boy wanted you to be okay, to forgive yourself because he forgave you the second your gaze softened towards him.
“Stop it. You deserve everything good. Everything. I’m gonna go put these returns back, okay? Stop beating yourself up. We’re okay.”
He touched your arm softly as he passed, the small brush of his hand sending waves through you. Mind, body, and soul. He affected you and you wanted him. You loved him.
You never thought you would be one to call for Steve Harrington, but here you were. You had probably been falling for months now, never even knowing it. This was crazy.
To make everything even crazier, the next time the bell above the door rang, it was none other than Ryan. Your nightmare date. Absolute asshole. You were not ready to deal with him.
“y/n. Hey.”
“Go away Ryan.”
Steve was in the back now, organizing movies and trying to give you space. He didn’t hear the bell jingle and he didn’t know who was out there. If he did, he’d have some choice words and maybe even a punch to give.
“Come on. Let me make it up to you.”
“No. Please leave.”
Your eyes were searching around the store for Steve, for an escape from this guy and this conversation. You couldn’t see him, though. All you could do was hope that he would come back soon, that some kind of intuition would lead him to find you.
“Babe, seriously. One date and I’ll prove to you last night was a fluke.”
“Don’t call me ‘babe’ and stop asking me out. No.”
“Such a bitch.”
Steve chose that moment to walk out of the back room, brows furrowing at the sight of fucking Ryan talking to you. He could tell you weren’t having it, that you weren’t comfortable with it. Your hands were fidgeting, shaking.
“I think she told you to leave.”
“Steve Harrington! A hero!”
“Get the fuck out, Ryan. Seriously.”
Steve was talking slowly, menacingly. His voice a demand that you’d never heard come from him before. He was always soft, light, and right now he was anything but.
“Jesus, Steve, you really fell off since school.”
“No, I’m better now, thanks. You can leave now.”
You stood watching the two of them, not able to utter a word. You were nervous to see what would happen, hoping that Ryan would just leave and no punches would be thrown. As much as he deserved one.
“Whatever,” Ryan turned to you then, eyes scanning you up and down in anger, disgust. “You’re lucky King Steve was here to save you. You’re a fucking bore anyways. Bye.”
You let out a breath after he left, one of relief and shock. What the fuck. Steve defended you. Ryan came back and was just as horrible as you remembered. Why was this all happening to you? There was so much confusion and self-doubt running through your head.
“Hey, sweet girl. What happened before I showed up?”
“He tried to get me to go out with him again. Redemption or something.”
“Fuck that. Don’t go on that date.”
The atmosphere seemed to shift. You were standing really close together. When did that happen? Steve was holding both of your hands in his, stopping your nervous fiddling and soothing you. He looked all over your face, eyes scanning and sweet and captivating as ever.
“Steve…”
“Don’t go.”
“I wasn’t going to. But why? What’s it to you.”
“You know why. Don’t make me say it. Please.”
Was this really happening? Were things about to be confessed in the dingy space that was Family Video? You really hoped it was. That you weren’t dreaming some kind of crazy realistic dream. Because Steve was the most real you’d ever seen him now.
His eyes pleading with you, trying to find any sign that you would relent, let him save his words to himself. It was too early. He still didn’t know if you felt the same, and no matter what he convinced himself earlier, he was scared. So scared to admit his emotions.
You let go of one of his hands to push his hair off of his forehead, “tell me.”
“Fuck. I can’t.”
“Steve. Tell me.”
Your hand grasped his face, coaxing him to keep his eyes on yours. To see how serious you were. You wanted to hear this and you wanted to say it back. All this considering he was going to say what you thought he was.
“I’m in love with you and I'm terrified. I’m so scared because for a long time I was convinced you could never feel the same and then last night you called me. You called me, and all I wanted to do was hold you and kiss you and make sure you were okay and I still do. I still do and I’m scared. I don’t deserve you, I don’t think I ever could-”
You cut him off by kissing him, too overwhelmed with everything he said to say anything back before pulling him into you. Steve reciprocated right away, his free hand wrapping around your waist to hold you as close as possible.
He was dreaming. He had to be. His dream girl, kissing him. You were perfect, and he was kissing you.
You pulled away after a bit, needing to say it back.
“I love you, Steve. I’m so sorry for how long I’ve been blind, I haven’t been fair to you and I want to fix it. But I love you, and I want you to let me prove that to you.”
“Maybe you can just kiss me again? Think that’ll work.”
You did, impossibly grateful that it was a quiet day in Family Video. You supposed you should be grateful for this job. It ultimately brought you and Steve together.

Cool fingers press lightly into his skin, yanking him from sleep. A hand shakes his shoulder. He clings stubbornly to the last dredges of unconsciousness, desperately trying to ignore the disturbance.
“Keith. Keith. Keith, baby. Get up.”
Unfortunately, this disturbance cannot be ignored.
G-d, Keith fucking hates Halloween.
“What, Lance,” he groans, flailing around blindly for a pillow and smacking it over his head. Lance waits a second, allowing naive hope to bloom in Keith’s unmoving chest, before wrenching the pillow away. Keith opens his eyes just to glare at him. “It’s one in the afternoon!”
Lance’s smile is bright and beautiful. It’s too early for that kind of shit. Keith can’t tear his eyes away.
“I changed my mind about tonight.”
Keith blinks. “…Really?”
That’s…unusual. Lance loves Halloween. Keith has been grumbling about it for decades, but his husband has never swayed, dragging Keith gleefully to pumpkin patches and Target and various thrift stores to prepare for a night of handing out candy to demanding children and teenagers alike. Keith carves a stupid pumpkin every single year. He flies up to the roof to overdecorate and Lance’s fathoming. He dumps overpriced and overpackaged candy into a stupid novelty bucket. He refrains from tearing the doorbell off the doorframe in flinging it into space. He caves, essentially, to every single one of Lance’s whims.
He used to make entire nations cower by baring his teeth. What has become of him, truly.
“I don’t. Actually. Detest this stupid holiday down to my bones,” Keith admits hesitantly, dragging himself so he’s sitting upright. “I mean, well. I do. It’s dumb and cheesy and stupid. But. You love it, so.” He is suddenly sick to his stomach, realizing that all his grumbling might have actually dimmed Lance’s adoration for Halloween, his love for all the silly traditions. As much as he’d rather not have Twilight wannabes and plucky princesses stomping all around his house all night, he will endure it for the way Lance bounces with excitement every ring of the doorbell. He has for over half a century. He thought Lance knew that.
But thankfully there is no heaviness Keith can find in Lance’s expression, no sadness dropping his shoulders. His brown eyes sparkle with the same flash of mischief they usually do; if anything they glow a little brighter, shine a little more golden in the late afternoon sun.
“Oh, please,” he says warmly, flicking the bridge of Keith’s nose. Keith’s affection, however masked, is noted. Keith lets out a sigh of relief. “If the entirety of the western world up and forgot Halloween had any meaning then you would be smug for the next two centuries, you scrooge.”
Keith inclines his head. This is true. “Then why don’t you want to hand out candy this year?”
Too energetic to be still any longer, Lance brushes his knuckles against Keith’s cheek and gets to his feet, spinning towards the window and resting dramatically upon the frame.
“Well,” he says, hand brandished theatrically on his hip, “you know how Pidge can change her appearance for tricks?”
Understanding dawns on Keith. He groans, loudly, falling back onto the mattress and throwing the duvet over his face.
“No, Lance.”
His husband isn’t deterred in the slightest. “Yes!”
“I refuse. Pidge will refuse!”
“Think of Hana! You know Shiro has her dressed as a fat baby pumpkin. You know it, Keith. Think of how cute that will be.”
That will be cute. This is true. But, as Lance so often likes to point out, they live in the age of technology. Keith is sure he will get a slew of pictures of his niece in a pumpkin costume in the next few hours.
“I’m going back to sleep. Good night.”
“Sun’s high in the sky, Count von Count.” Lance yanks the blanket from Keith grip. His smile is wide and victorious when Keith looks at him, because he knows damn well the only reason he could pull back that blanket was because Keith let him.
He knows he’s won. Keith hisses at him.
“Come on,” Lance coaxes, leaning down to kiss Keith gently. “Don’t think of it as us trick or treating. Think of it as…stealing candy from babies! We’re taking the opportunity from some kid, no? Making less to go around?”
“That’s a horrible way to put it,” Keith grumps, even though it isn’t and it’s actually really funny and Keith is furious at himself for the laugh he chokes down. “This is so stupid. We can buy our own candy, Lance.”
“But trick or treat candy has —”
“Do not say there’s magic in it.”
“—magic in it,” Lance finishes, snickering. “And lots of it.”
He shrieks as Keith lunges forward, jabbing him in the ribs until he’s breathless with laughter and protest and pinning his wrists to the mattress. He struggles against Keith’s hold, uselessly, because Keith’s grip is stronger than iron shackles and he’s too weak from giggles to put up a fight. Keith rolls his eyes at his own smile at the sound.
“That is such a dumbass reason,” he says, exasperated.
“It’s real, though,” Lance insists. “The act of freely giving a possession —”
“—imbues it with the power of good will, yeah, yeah, I know.” He leans down and bites the tongue Lance has stuck out on him, smiling slightly at how quickly the witch relents, how quickly he melts into him. Affection bleeds from him in full, Keith finds. Sometimes so potently it changes the weight of the air.
“We can gather everyone up and look like a whole crew,” Lance mumbles against his lips. “Hana in her little pumpkin. Pidge can probably pull off a ten year old without even shifting. Allura and Hunk technically haven’t aged past their teens.”
“Allura is five thousand years old,” Keith grumbles. “At least. She’s an empress. She’s too dignified for this bullshit. She houses Ra.”
“She’ll think this whole thing is funny and you know it.”
Keith sighs. “Yeah, I know.” He kisses Lance one last time before sitting up, letting his husband wiggle out of his hold and buzz around their bedroom to get ready. He draws a line through the air, pulling back the fabric of space with sparks of electric grin, and digs around the little pocket for a moment. It becomes quickly apparent as he extracts two intricately made, exaggerated costumes of a cartoon witch and vampire, that this has been the plan for a while and his husband had no doubts about Keith’s begrudging acceptance.
“I have more costumes for everyone else,” Lance says excitedly. “They’re stereotypical and gaudy and horrible. They took me hours. I can’t wait.”
“You’re a goober,” Keith says fondly. Lance beams back at him. “Let’s go get some stupid candy.”

Ikeprinces As Ranked By Gilbert
Tumblr media
**Best enjoyed after reading Gil’s route. There are also spoilers of varying degrees from some sequel routes (Chev, Licht).
1. LUKE
Luke: I’m surprised I got the top spot. Don’t you and Chevvie go way back? Gilbert: That’s true, but you’re my adorable little kid brother. I’ve carried you on my back. You’ve carried me on your back. Good times. Luke: Aw, Dad… (bear-hugs Gil) Gilbert: (pouts as he struggles to breathe) Did you even… hear a word of what I said… Luke: I heard ‘kid’. That makes ya my dad, right?
2. CHEVALIER
Gilbert: So? What do you think? Chevalier: (ignores him and continues doing paperwork) Gilbert: (high-pitched voice) “Please, oh please, Gil! Please trample my country to the ground, rebuild it in your image and then run it for me!” Something like that, right? Gilbert: (dodges pebble) Ahh, sorry, sorry. It would probably be more like “Please, oh please, Eyepatch!" Gilbert: (dodges another pebble) What is going on here? Do you roll around in the garden before coming to work every day?
3. CLAVIS
Clavis: (stiff smile) I baked you one of my most sought-after creations as thanks. I’d be honored if you’d try it, Lord Gilbert. Gilbert: Hmm, it looks as unappetizing as I expected but smells delicious. Oh, and... (sniffs) ...you even infused it with my favorite poison! Clavis: Hahaha! Well, I didn’t want you to get the idea that I’d learned nothing about you during all our years working together. Gilbert: Of course, of course. Would you like to share this with me Clavis: (stiff smile) No, no, no. It’s best enjoyed alone. Please, I insist.
4. RIO
Rio: If you’re trying to use me to get to my mistress, then I’ll— Gilbert: You misunderstand me. (Sets down two plates of pain perdu and places his hand on Rio’s) I really do commiserate with you, you know. It’s not easy seeing the one you love go off to be with another man. And yet you gladly sacrifice your own happiness. As though it were someone else's joy to give away. Rio: It is. My joy belongs to my mistress. Gilbert: Hmph? Let's see. Pain perdu means ‘lost bread’, right? Poor, poor abandoned little toast, molding under the table. Gilbert: Oh, by the way. I asked the little rabbit if I could bring these to you on her behalf. (Proceeds to eat all the pain perdu himself) Rio: (smiles brightly) So I’ve heard you love exercising!
5. SILVIO
Silvio: (kicks down the door) Where's the list? Gilbert: (innocently sips tea) So you can tear it up? Did you think I didn't make copies to send to every one of your little merchant friends? Silvio: My real friends know what's up. Gilbert: What a hurtful thing to say. I’m just honoring our friendship. And buttering you up for future manipulation. Silvio: Tch. I don’t know what game you’re playing— Gilbert: Human chess. Silvio: —but I’ll buy up every damn piece before you can get your filthy little mitts on 'em. Gilbert: Hehe, splendid. (Sits back with a smile) What’s more fun than controlling someone who controls everything else?
6. KEITH
Keith: Picked me over the other guy, did ya? Gilbert: Oh, he’s on the list too, of course. But I can’t stand how much of a do-gooder he is. And besides, you’re much more fun to play with. Keith: That right? I’m usually the one doing the teasing around here, though. Gilbert: (looks around dramatically) Around here? Where only a handful of people even know you exist? Tell me, if a tree falls and no one’s there to hear it, does it make a sound? Keith: >:0
7. KEITH
Keith: (hangs head) So you know… about him… Gilbert: Ahaha, there's no need to look so down! You haven’t done anything wrong, have you? It’s all him, right? If only he’d just disappear and stop taunting you from Spot #6. Keith: N-No! I don’t want that! I don’t… think I want that… Keith: Yes, I’m sure of it. He and I can share our friends. Gilbert: (stops smiling) Sharing only works if you can fully trust the other person to not take advantage of your kindness. You may think you can do that now, but people change. Circumstances change. The galette must one day burn. Keith: :’(
8. JIN
Jin: (thoroughly unamused) How kind of you. Gilbert: Isn’t it? But you should know that I’ve got nothing against you personally. Whatever enmity there is between us stems primarily from you. If you weren’t royalty, we might have even co-brothered Luke together. Jin: (throws up in his mouth) I don’t see how that has anything to do with this. And you’re the most detested royal figurehead on the continent. Gilbert: (shrugs) I’d say I’m sorry you can’t see past that, but I’d be lying if I claimed there was anything there to be seen in the first place. Thanks for the lollypop. Jin: What? HEY—
9. SARIEL
Sariel: (stops as soon as he enters his office) What are these vermin doing here? Gilbert: (sitting in Sariel’s chair) Just a little gift I brought so I could congratulate you for making it onto my list. Would you like to do the honors? Sariel: (plucks him up by the fur) Am I to understand you’re giving me a chance to correct my oversight before you take things into your own hands? Gilbert: (brushes himself off) I expect you to do most if not all of the work since my hands are tied while I’m a visiting guest here. But I’m happy to take them under my wing if you can’t even do that much. Sariel: “Kill them, or be forced to kill them,’ is it? (glances at the tied-up assassins) I wonder which one of us they would consider a fate worse than death.
10. LEON
Leon: (glares) I take it you only stuck me on here out of diplomatic courtesy. Gilbert: Haha, maybe. But there’s something about you that’s always reminded me of someone I know. Leon: Whoever it is, I feel bad for the guy. Gilbert: (bittersweet smile) You might be right. Maybe I need to do better by him…
11. LICHT
Licht: Do I know you? Gilbert: I was wondering the same thing, to be honest. But I’ve seen you around the palace enough times that I figured I might as well throw you on here. Gilbert: Nice eyes by the way, hehe. Licht: Oh no you don’t. My only family is Nokto.
12. NOKTO
Gilbert: Oh. There are two of you. Must be nice having an identical twin. (Resting his chin in his hand) Do you two switch places a lot? Nokto: You never noticed before today? Never received a report from one of your spies about it? Gilbert: Oh no, what sort of boring activities do you think I have my spies do all day? Nokto: Well, for starters, you sure seem to have paranormal insight into the contents of our kitchen at any given moment. Gilbert: So you'd rather I left all the carrots where they are? Nokto: ...
...
.......
................
Yves: Prince Gilbert!
Gilbert: (stops but doesn’t turn around)
Yves: I saw your list, and I couldn’t help but notice—
Gilbert: No, I believe you noticed everything you were meant to.
Gilbert: (leaves to go find the little rabbit to fix his bad mood)

Steve was working his way through putting the returns away on the shelves at Family Video. He was also counting down the hours until his shift was over. It was his last shift of the week before he had two days off, and he intended on spending as much of that time as possible with Eddie.
Eddie, who had been away with the rest of the Corroded Coffin boys for the last two weeks.
Eddie, his boyfriend, who he missed far more than was probably healthy.
They had spoken a few times in those two weeks, mostly Eddie griping about one of the other guys snoring in the shitty motel rooms they had been staying in. There had been a few late night calls where Eddie was clearly just getting back from a gig that had gone well though, the sheer joy and excitement in Eddie’s voice on those calls made the time apart worthwhile.
Despite being happy for Eddie and his friends for putting themselves out there and trying to get more of a following for their band, it had not been the easiest time for Steve.
Find it here on ao3
In the six months since Vecna’s defeat and Eddie’s miraculous survival after almost being torn apart by demobats, the pair had grown steadily closer. Three months ago they had admitted their feelings to one another and within the last six weeks they had been sleeping in the same bed almost every night. So two weeks of sleeping alone had Steve feeling exhausted and run down. The nightmares that had dwindled, or at least seemed easier to cope with when waking to find Eddie beside him, were back in full force and he had woken up to more than one panic attack in the two week’s Eddie had been gone. While he couldn’t wait to see Eddie and kiss him and do all sorts of things with his boyfriend that he probably shouldn’t think about while working, he truly just longed to be held in Eddie’s arms as they fell asleep.
After fourteen days of minimal sleep and feeling generally awful, when he began to feel more unwell than he had previously he ignored it. He shrugged off the mild nausea he had been feeling all day, putting it down to needing to sleep and probably eat something more substantial than a microwave dinner, and pushed through his shift. The sooner the day was done, the sooner he’d be with Eddie.
Finally 4pm came and Keith showed up to take over for the rest of the afternoon and evening and Steve was out of there.
He sat in his car only to realise that he and Eddie hadn’t had a chance to work out whether they were staying at Eddie’s or Steve’s tonight.
“Fuck it,” Steve muttered to himself, turning the key to start the car and pulling out of the parking space. He would head over to Eddie and Wayne’s two bedder that the government had coughed up for as compensation for Eddie being accused of murder, and worst case scenario he’d head home if Eddie wasn’t there and maybe he could at least leave a message with Eddie’s uncle.
To his relief, Eddie’s van was out the front and Steve pulled up behind him, putting the car in park and turning the engine off.
He hadn’t even opened his door and Eddie was already opening his front door and waving to Steve.
“Hey Stevie! Miss me?” Eddie called, walking towards the beemer.
Steve rolled his eyes but couldn’t suppress his grin.
“Now, why I would I have missed you Eds? You been gone or something?” he replied as he got out of the car. His smile fell for a moment as he felt an ache in his guts as he stood. Before he could think about it Eddie had slung an arm around Steve’s shoulders and was leading him into the house.
“You wound me Stevie!” Eddie put his free hand to his chest and threw his head back. “To think, you didn’t even know I was gone! For shame!” Eddie continued to sigh dramatically until they were in the house.
Eddie entered slightly ahead of Steve and once the door was closed behind them he quickly turned and braced both hands against the door, effectively trapping Steve.
“Hey baby,” Eddie said softly before pressing himself against Steve and kissing him, Steve practically melting into the kiss as Eddie moved one hand away from the door and cupped Steve’s cheek instead.
They spent long moments just kissing each other, relearning the taste and feel of one another's mouths and teeth and tongues, before they finally pulled away for air.
“Of course I missed you,” Steve finally whispered, lips pressing against Eddie’s once more, less urgency and more soft sweetness this time.
Eddie just groaned and buried his head against Steve’s neck when they finally pulled apart once more.
“Alright come and sit,” Eddie finally said once he had a proper look at Steve. “You look exhausted sweetheart. Long day?”
Steve shrugged but followed Eddie over to the couch anyway.
“Kinda, I guess I just haven’t been sleeping well.”
Eddie pulled Steve down onto the couch beside him and wrapped an arm around Steve. Too tired to fight it and still not feeling well Steve just let himself be tugged against Eddie’s side and lay his head on the metalhead’s shoulder.
“Alright well how about you sit here with me for a while and just relax, close your eyes for a little if you like. We can see what’s on the tele and have an easy evening yeah? Wayne’s already gone to work so we have the place to ourselves. I can make us some food a little later too if you’re hungry.”
Steve shifted further into Eddie’s embrace, wincing a little as the movement made the pain his middle flare. He ducked his head to hide his face, not wanting Eddie to worry further. If he didn’t know better he’d have assumed that Eddie would be disappointed in Steve feeling under the weather and would have tried to fake it so they could have a nice date night. He knew his boyfriend well though and Eddie would be more upset if Steve lied about feeling up to something he wasn’t and not taking care of himself, than about having to have an easy night.
Once he was comfortable Steve relaxed and let the tension of the last two weeks slowly leave him. Eddie was slowly rubbing a hand up and down Steve’s arm, the motion soothing him further. Before he could even pay attention to what was playing on the small T.V. Steve was asleep.
______________________________________
He woke up what must have been at least a couple of hours later to Eddie saying his name softly and mumbled something incoherent in reply once he became aware enough. He felt both better and worse than before. He was no longer so tired he felt he might drop from sheer exhaustion but the pain in his stomach was worse, the ache spreading across to his side more now than it was earlier. He was cold too but at least Eddie felt warm along one side of him.
“Sorry baby, I didn’t want to wake you but I think we should eat something and then you can get some more sleep. Feel like anything in particular?”
Still half asleep Steve just groaned and shook his head.
“Aw come on Stevie. How about I just make some grilled cheese? Won’t take long and then we can get back to snuggling and you can sleep, ok?”
Steve really didn’t want to eat. He felt sick and he was hurting. He didn’t want to upset Eddie, or make him worry over what was surely nothing so he just agreed, Eddie pressed a kiss to Steve’s forehead and as he pulled away he stopped to look him over rather than heading to the small kitchen to make their dinner.
“Are you feeling alright? I know you said you hadn’t been sleeping well but you feel kinda warm. Are you sure you aren’t getting sick?”
Eddie looked so genuinely concerned that Steve wanted nothing more than to ease his worry.
“Hey yeah I’m ok. I’m just tired, not too hungry either so grilled cheese sounds fine. Thanks Eds.”
With one last worried look Eddie stood up and went to make dinner.
Steve settled back into the couch in Eddie’s absence and the ache in his side only seemed to grow worse. Before he realised he was doing it he found himself holding his right side and curling in on himself.
Eddie came back to find Steve huddled up on the couch shivering slightly with his hands pressed to his side.
“Stevie? What’s wrong?”
Steve looked up at Eddie standing in front of him with a plate in each hand and tried to straighten up, but instead found himself wincing in pain at the movement. He knew Eddie had seen and there was no point in lying.
“Sorry, guess I’m not feeling the greatest after all. I”m sure it’s nothing, just been a crappy week and I’m a little run down. Let’s eat, yeah?”
Eddie sat down beside Steve, handing him one of the plates. “Alright, but tell me if you start to feel worse.”
Steve took the plate and sat it in his lap, straightening up as much as he could. “Of course. Some food and some sleep and I’m sure I’ll be fine.”
They ate in relative silence until Eddie finished and then he started to tell Steve about his time away. Steve made all the right, encouraging noises and said the right words but he was struggling to eat. He was happy to let Eddie lead the conversation while he picked at the sandwich on his plate. As the conversation went on he was feeling steadily worse and by the time he had forced down half his dinner he was dangerously close to throwing it right back up. He tried to ignore it, sipping at some water that Eddie had gone to get them both once his own food was finished. He felt himself shiver a little and almost dropped his plate. Eddie stopped mid sentence and grabbed the plate before it could fall with one hand, reaching out to steady Steve with the other.
By this stage Steve had broken out into goosebumps while his face felt far too hot. The nausea was building to a point where he could no longer ignore it and before Eddie could speak Steve was bolting off the couch and to the bathroom. He barely made it in time, dropping hurriedly to his knees, the pain of hitting the tiles secondary to the sharp pain rippling through his side as he threw up his meagre dinner.
Eddie was there moments later, running a cool cloth over the back of Steve’s neck as he continued to heave long after there was nothing left to bring up.
When he was finally done Eddie’s hands were on him, pulling Steve away from the toilet and helping him to rest his head on Eddie’s shoulder. Gentle hands brushed his now sweaty hair from his face and pressed against his forehead before the cloth that had been pressed to his neck was used to help wipe his face. They sat in silence until Steve finally felt able to move and then Eddie hurried to his feet so he could help Steve to stand. With the toilet flushed, hands washed and teeth brushed Steve let himself lean into Eddie, the older boy helping him to the bedroom.
“Well I think it’s safe to say you’re sick baby,” Eddie finally said, breaking the silence that had fallen between them for the last few minutes.
“I guess. Sorry, I should go home, don’t want to get you sick,” Steve wanted nothing more than to stay. He hadn’t had anyone to take care of him in such a long time but it wasn’t fair to Eddie.
“Don’t be ridiculous. You aren’t going anywhere Steve. Now let’s get that cute little butt of yours into bed and I will get you some water and a bucket just in case we have a repeat performance. No arguments. Just rest, I will take care of everything else.”
Too sick and tired to argue, Steve just let himself be led to Eddie’s bed.
“Now, you seem to have a fever as well as nausea. Anything else wrong?” Eddie asked once Steve was situated in bed.
“Stomach hurts, but that explains the whole puking my guts up. Otherwise I’m just tired. Promise.”
Eddie stared at him before nodding, seemingly satisfied with Steve’s answer. “Alright, well I will see if we have some tylenol for your fever and we just need to keep you hydrated. Hopefully this is just some 24 hour bug.”
Sure enough Eddie managed to find something to help with the fever and some water to take it with. Once medication had been taken Eddie helped Steve change into a pair of sweatpants and an old t-shirt. Eddie quickly changed as well, plaid pj bottoms and a black shirt so worn out he only used it for sleep. Clothes changed, he got a bucket and put it beside the bed, got a fresh glass of water and then turned the light out and climbed into bed with Steve.
“You don’t have to come to bed yet Eds, it’s like eight at night.”
“Closer to nine now honey but I want to be with you. It was great spending time with Gareth and the guys and we met some awesome people but I missed you. I sleep better with you too Stevie so I think we should just call it a night alright?”
Too tired to argue, Steve just nodded sleepily and let himself be pulled into Eddie’s arms. He was asleep within minutes.
___________________________
Sometime during the night Steve woke up, side throbbing and feeling so sick he hardly made it to the bucket beside the bed, nevermind the bathroom. He was immensely thankful for Eddie’s forethought, or he would have been if he wasn’t so busy throwing up to think about it.
Eddie woke up moments after Steve had dropped to the floor. “Shit, Steve you alright? Of course not, fuckin’ stupid question,” he was half asleep and worried and the words just kept coming.
Just like earlier in the bathroom Eddie knelt beside Steve on the floor trying to soothe him through his dry heaves. Eddie rubbed Steve’s back and began to whisper comforting nonsense to Steve until Steve spat into the bucket one last time and moved back from it and into Eddie, trembling with fever and exhaustion.
“Fuck baby you’re burning,” Eddie said with a wince. “Let’s get some water and I’ll see if you can take some more tylenol yeah? Just gotta check the time first, don’t want to give you too much.”
Steve was too out of it to really answer but he tried to nod and hoped Eddie understood.
Eddie got up first and flicked on the bedside lamp, before helping Steve up off the floor and back into bed. Steve cried out at the movement, hand clutching his side and almost crumpling back to the floor.
“Fuck!” Eddie cursed as he grabbed hold of Steve, keeping him upright as much as possible. Steve's eyes were closed, a few tears escaping, and Eddie wiped them away with one hand while keeping the other arm wrapped around his waist. Steve finally tried to get his feet back under him and Eddie helped him back to the bed. "Alright, shit. Ok, Stevie you with me?"
Steve just groaned as he dropped down onto the bed, trying to lay back on the pillow but instead more or less collapsing where he fell.
"So-sorry Eds," Steve finally managed to get out, teeth chattering like it was the depths of winter rather than just the beginning of fall. He had never been in this kind of pain before while sick. He'd been beaten and chewed up by bats but this was different. He just felt wrong and he wanted it to stop.
Eddie leaned down to kiss Steve's burning cheek before pulling away. "Nothing to be sorry for. Now I need to go check the time and see if we can get you more meds. I'll be right back."
Before Steve could even try to think to reply Eddie was gone. Steve pressed a hand to his side, the pain growing steadily worse until he couldn't think of anything else. His side felt tender but kind of hard. He felt so sick but the fever made it hard to think.
When Eddie came back he had more tylenol and a damp cloth which he put on the bedside table while he helped Steve sit up. Steve cried out before biting his lip at the movement, the pain almost enough to make him throw up again though he was sure there was nothing left to throw up at this point.
"Come on baby, let's get these meds into you and some more water and try to sleep. It's almost 3am, Wayne will be back soon and in the morning we can go see a doctor if you aren't any better."
Steve lay his head against Eddie's shoulder, letting his boyfriend help hold the pills to his mouth followed by the water. Steve was fairly sure he'd have dropped the glass if he had tried to hold it. As it was he could hardly lift his head to take the tablets he was given.
"This sucks Eds, hurts and I-I don't wanna get you sick," Steve was crying, he had been freezing only moments ago and now he felt like he was on fire. He tried tugging at the shirt he was wearing but Eddie just grabbed his hands and moved them away from his clothing.
"I know it sucks but there is no way in hell I'm leaving you alone like this. You ready to lay back down?"
"Think so," Steve muttered. Eddie manoeuvred them back onto the bed properly, Steve's burning forehead pressed against Eddie’s collar bone as more hot tears fell and dripped onto Eddie's skin.
Steve slipped into a fitful doze and Eddie lay beside him just holding him. They didn't get much of a reprieve before Steve sat up again with a moan, Eddie grabbed for the bucket that he had emptied while organising more meds for Steve and just managed to get the younger man upright enough to throw up into the bucket rather than the bed. Not that there was anything coming up but bile at this stage along with a little water.
Steve was clutching his side now and was too out of it to do anything but lay back down as soon as he was done. Eddie got up and emptied the bucket once again before hurrying back to Steve's side. He got as far as putting the bucket beside the bed before he heard the front door opening. Eddie took one more glance at his pale, trembling boyfriend who was once more curled up on the bed holding his side and hurried out to find his uncle.
"Eddie? What are you doing up son?" Wayne asked, surprised to see his nephew awake at just past 3am. It wasn't unheard of, but he didn’t usually look so upset.
"It's Steve, he's really sick Wayne. I thought I'd just get him to a doctor in the morning but he's not getting any better…he actually seems worse," Eddie was tugging at his hair and pacing the small living area until Wayne put a hand on Eddie's shoulder to stop him.
"Alright, what kind of sick are we talking 'bout?" Wayne's brow was furrowed with concern.
"Um well…he said he was tired at first, he had a nap when he got here, but then after dinner he threw up and he had a fever. Said his stomach hurt which made sense, what with the puking and all…he threw up again about an hour ago and his fever seemed super high. He crashed out but then he just woke up and was sick again, he's holding his side like it hurts and he's still burning up. What do I do Uncle Wayne?" Eddie was starting to cry as he spoke, getting more and more worked up.
“Sounds like we might need to take a trip to the emergency room with him. Let me see him and we can go from there. Stay here and give yourself a moment. You’re no good to anyone if you’re panicking Eddie,” Wayne gave Eddie’s shoulder one last comforting squeeze and quickly headed to the bedroom to check on Steve.
Steve was laying on the bed curled in on himself and crying softly. Everything hurt but especially his side. He didn’t feel like he could move but he was starting to feel sick again, not that he thought there was anything to come up but more burning bile. He was so hot and he could feel himself sweating through his clothes but it was more effort that he could manage to take anything off. Eddie would help, except when he opened his eyes to look for his boyfriend he couldn’t see him anywhere. The hall light was on though and he tried to call out only what came out was a pained moan.
Then Wayne was there, pressing a calloused hand to his sweaty brow. He was asking Steve questions and he tried his best to answer.
“Where does it hurt Steve?” Wayne was asking.
Steve tried to answer but just pressed his hand against his aching side and hoped Wayne understood. Gently hands pulled his own away from the source of his pain and felt around the area, Steve crying out as the pain got worse when Wayne’s hands moved away.
Wayne muttered something to himself and then before Steve could really comprehend what was happening Eddie was back and he was trying to help Steve to sit up. Steve shook his head, tears falling unchecked as he tried to pull away from Eddie. He didn’t want to move, he couldn’t move.
“Sorry baby but we need to get to the hospital. This might hurt,” Eddie explained, his voice shaky as he tried to suppress his own tears. Then Eddie was lifting Steve and Wayne was there to help as well and somehow they made it to Wayne’s truck.
Steve didn’t really remember the trip to the hospital but he did finally become aware of what was going on when he was helped out of the car and taken through to the emergency department. He was quickly taken from Eddie and Wayne, settled into a bed and given some morphine. The drugs helped ease the pain enough that he was coherent again and then doctors were explaining to him that he was going for surgery to have his appendix removed.
Eddie and Wayne came into the room and the doctor left them briefly, presumably to start preparing the surgery.
“Hey Stevie, how are you doing now?” Eddie asked, grabbing hold of Steve’s hand, carefully avoiding the IV line that had been inserted when he’d arrived.
“Hmm they gave me morphine Eds, it’s helped but I’m still sore,” Steve whined a little and Eddie pressed a quick kiss to Steve’s cheek.
“I know, but they are gonna take your appendix out and then it won’t hurt you anymore. You can stay with Wayne and I while you recover, right Uncle Wayne?” Eddie glanced at his uncle and Wayne nodded at the pair of them.
“Of course, you’re always welcome Steve. Come on now Eddie, they'll be here to take him to surgery shortly. Say goodbye for now and you can see him later.”
With one more quick kiss, this time pressed to Steve’s lips, Eddie pulled away and left the room with Wayne.
Before too long a nurse came and got him ready for surgery, then Steve was in theatre with a mask over his face and counting backwards from one hundred.
The next time he opened his eyes he was in a different hospital room with Eddie on one side of him, holding his hand and Wayne snoring softly in a chair on the other side of the bed.
Eddie became aware of Steve looking after only a few moments and gave him a warm smile before sighing with relief.
“Hey baby, good to see you awake. You are now appendix free and will have a shiny new scar to commemorate the event. Now, let’s never repeat this again, yeah?”
Steve smiled sleepily, he was pretty sure he was still on some painkillers because he couldn’t really feel anything and felt better than he had in days.
“Hmm pretty sure you only have one appendix Eds.”
“Oh that’s how it is, first words outta your mouth and they are to mock me!”
Steve just gripped Eddie’s hand tighter in his own and tried to pull the older boy down towards him on the bed, Eddie gave up on the dramatics and moved in to press his forehead against Steve’s.
“Please don’t scare me like that again?” Eddie whispered, his voice breaking slightly as he spoke.
“Promise I’ll try,” Steve whispered back.
“That’s all you can do baby. Now, I better let the nurse know you’re awake,” Eddie pulled away reluctantly to press the call button before starting to ramble at Steve asking far too many questions for his still drowsy mind to even think about answering. “Are you hurting at all? Hungry? You haven’t eaten in a while and you threw everything up so I guess you might be?”
Despite the drug induced sleep of the last few hours he was exhausted so Steve just let Eddie fuss over him and closed his eyes. He was alright, Eddie was there and Wayne was nearby. Everything was going to be fine now.

Lances ex was terrible
He was the kind of ex that was really full of themselves, cruel, didn't like Lance spending too much time with anyone else (not that his ex girlfriends were any better).
So when they finally broke up everyone rejoiced. The demon had been slain!
Until...he came to get his shit out of Lances apartment because not only did he take his shitty wardrobe he also stole Lances precious baby blue!
His beautiful baby, his sweet meow meow, his darling princess.
But because Lance had no proof the asshat got off scott-free!
He'd cried for hours not knowing what to do and his stupid ex blocked him so Lance couldn't even attempt to beg for his cat daughter back. So he did what anyone would do, he complained online.
The comments flooded with people trying to come up with ideas until one stood out. Some guy with a photo of a motorcycle asking what this ex looks like.
Lance sniffled sending pictures in the replies and waited. He wasn't sure why anyone would want a picture but maybe the guy wanted it so he could keep an eye out? The reply didn't take long at all and it only baffled Lance further.
The guy, Keith K, responded in seconds "dw I can handle this."
Before Lance could even question anything Keiths status had switched to offline leaving Lance to read through other comments as possible solutions.
~•~
At 1am Lances phone lights up with a call. Now, normally Lance would ignore these, who responds to random calls especially at 1am?
But he looks down and it's the same name of the guy from earlier, Keith K. Lance will admit first a foremost he doesn't always think things through and come on now, he was curious to know how this guy got his number at all.
So lance picks up, groggy with sleep "hello??"
"I got ur cat back, do you wanna meet up for her or would you like to wait until later?"
That got lances attention. Now more awake he scrambles to get dressed "are you sure? Like ur sure it's my cat?"
"your name and number are on the collar"
"Where do you wanna meet?"
"Shouldn't I be asking you that? I am the stranger."
"Yeah but ur a stranger that apparently saved my darling daughter!?"
Lance hears a small laugh on the other side of the line "I'll shoot you my location?"
"Sounds good to me."
The second the call ends Lance receives directions to a place 15min out and a picture of blue safe in a cat carrier. He's more than relieved to both see her and have proof this wasn't a dream, though he is still weary.
He shoots off a text to Hunk and Pidge with his location/tracking on in case something went wrong and Lance rushes out the door to go meet this stranger. They'll likely wonder what he's up to at this hour, maybe even spam call him in worry. However, Lance doesn't have the patience right now now when his baby is in some randos hands.
Pulling up to the 24hr McDonald's he doesn't even care that he's meeting a stranger anymore the second he sees his baby blue through the window. Lance rushes inside and the second she spots him she paws at the carrier door with a sweet little meow. He's cooing over her and letting her out to make sure she's safe when he finally looks up to see her knight in shining armor.
And wow....this guy is hot.
Dark hair, deep eyes, leather jacket and gloves.
Dude looks straight out of a Harley magazine despite the beat up pick-up in the parking lot Lance is positive belongs to him.
As blue snuggles into Lances hold he looks at Keith with the first genuine smile he's had in days "thank you, I-I don't even know what to say? I can't thank you enough how on earth did you manage this?"
Keith just gestures for lance to sit down across from him, so he does, and smiles "I have my ways."
Oh? Well Lance has to know now "go on share the deets. I can offer you whatever you want off the menu as payment."
The other man snorts "it's fine I'll share without pay...This time."
"Oh? How generous of you."
Keith leans forward on the table "your ex was already on dating apps. I pretended I'd take him on a good date and went home with him. The second he left to get pretty for me I took the cat and ran, he's a douche."
That...what not at all what Lance expected to hear. His jaw was on the floor. He laughed in surprised awe "you...you got my cat back by luring him into false security??"
Keith's brow lifts "what like it's hard? He's the one that fell for it and got uno reverse robbed. I don't know what you saw in him."
That only gets lance to laugh harder "yeah, I don't either."
They spend the rest of the early morning chatting and eventually exchanging phone numbers.
On the way out Keith stops him though "actually, I changed my mind I do want payment."
"Oh yeah? Like what"
He smiles "how about a date?"
Lance is left breathless in the light of the rising sun "you won't be robbing me now, will you?"
"and if I say I am?"
"what do you aim to steal from me mr.criminal?"
Keith leans in just slightly "your heart? If things go well."
Lance gives him a quick peck on the cheek "yeah, yeah I can do that."
No one believes Lance when he says he got a new boyfriend because the guy stole his cat back from his ex.

Mayday Hayday Gift Exchange
Tumblr media
I had the absolute pleasure of participating in this years' Ikeseries gift exchange hosted by @olivermorningstar and @lorei-writes, and I got the wonderful @tulipsaisle for my giftee. She has a wonderful OC that was fun to write about and I hope I did her justice. Thank you all for the opportunity to join in on this amazing experience!
Fox Fashion
Shiloh scratched the tabby cat’s back, taking a break from running her stall at the day’s slow peak. It was so heartwarming for her attention to be rewarded with purring delight and affectionate head bumps.
Paying attention to the cat also had the added benefit of Shiloh being able to ignore Nokto Klein.
“Shi-loooooh,” Nokto sing-songed as though he’d not been yapping for the past five minutes about his latest conquest at some ball he just attended. Couldn’t he have picked a more interesting topic? It’s not like Nokto wasn’t a great storyteller: the way he could draw in a crowd as he utilized his honey-smooth voice and descriptive embellishments was near unparalleled, but he so often wasted his talents by telling tales no one wanted to hear, least of all Shiloh.
“Did you hear something, Minou?” Shiloh cooed at the cat, “All I heard was the wind. If only it would blow its hot air somewhere else, huh?”
“Come now, I’m sure there are better ways for me to put my mouth to use than just blowing air, hmmm?” Nokto purred. Shiloh clucked her tongue and turned her face away so he couldn’t see her red cheeks. She always struggled to think up a good comeback when he toed the line of vulgarity like that.
“Be honest, dear,” Nokto said, angling his body to try and catch a peek of her face, “is a cat you see every day really more interesting than a prince specifically stopping by to visit you?”
“Oh, of course not,” Shiloh waved Nokto off. She took a small toy mouse out of the pocket of her dress (it was worth  making friends with the best seamstress in town) and tossed it on the ground for Minou to play with. “If Licht were to stop by, I’d be happy to sit him down for some tea and snacks.”
“Just Licht?” Nokto prompted.
“Well, there’s also Leon, Jin, Yves,” Shiloh counted on her fingers as she listed everyone aside from Nokto, “I heard Prince Keith is a good conversationalist and knows a lot about flowers, I wouldn’t mind picking his brain about them, and there’s-”
“I think I get it,” Nokto said dryly, “so foxes rank pretty low under cats with you.” He reached out to boop Minou’s nose, causing the cat to scrunch her face adorably. “What am I going to have to do to make you change your mind?”
Shiloh raised an eyebrow at him in disbelief. “Do you really think you can compare with Minou’s gentle sweetness? Her precious curled feetsies?”
“I don’t think any human can compare to that,” Nokto admitted. That was suspicious. Usually he didn’t give up so-
“But I can show you a different kind of pleasure that’s just as delightful.”
-soon. “Unless you’re talking about the pleasure of silence, I’m not interested,” Shiloh said, dusting her dress as she stood up, ready to refocus on her shop.
Nokto laughed and said, “I’ll get you to admit my charms one day, Miss Hayes.”
* * *
“Ugh!” Shiloh groaned as she fanned herself with her hand, “Why can’t spring last longer?” Maybe she should upgrade from an outdoor stall to a shopfront-then she’d have more than just shade to protect herself.
At least she wasn’t suffering alone. Nokto had shown up minutes ago, having heard the same thing from Celine, the seamstress, about a surprise showing up around now. And Nokto wasn’t any better in the heat than she was. “I can easily say this isn’t my preferred method of working up a sweat,” he agreed, asking for the second time, “Are you sure you don’t want to close up and go to a cafe? I’d never imply you were anything other than a delight to look at, but you’re turning a shade of red that even I normally can’t get out of you.”
“No thanks,” Shiloh stood her ground, though there was a part of her that couldn’t deny being tempted, “but if you can’t handle it, I won’t think less of you for needing to escape to safety.”
“Such a kind offer. But I’m not callous enough to leave you out here all by yourself. Why, what if you were to feel faint under the-” Nokto sputtered a bit when Shiloh frantically shushed at him to be quiet, flapping her hands in his face. She’d just spotted Celine’s surprise trot around the corner.
“Oh. My. God!!!” she shrieked, taking in the sight of Minou in the most adorable little getup Shiloh had ever seen. Never in a million years would Shiloh ever imagine she’d see Minou in a dress, but here she was, watching the tabby proudly prance over to her, wearing a tiny, flowery-there were roses! And junipers!-green sundress, perfectly sized and aimed at making Shiloh lose her mind with cuteness overload.
“Well, that’s certainly something,” Nokto observed over Shiloh’s gushing, “That must have been a struggle, to wrangle a cat into that outfit.”
“It’s worth it,” Shiloh declared in awe, “she’s the most precious thing I’ve ever seen. And such a good idea! How many people would jump on the idea of outfits for their pets? Celine could start a whole line of clothing for pets-the fabric and labour costs would be much lower, too. Oh, she’s brilliant!”
Nokto watched on as Shiloh began muttering about the process of the fashion industry and how it can accommodate Celine’s project. “This is what gets you going, is it?” he chuckled in amusement, “Regular clothes just aren’t enough for you anymore so now you need a tiny version to get excited over?”
Shiloh cut off her rambling, a hand on her hip as she addressed Nokto, “When a new line drops, I’ll be all too happy to talk your ear off about it. Don’t for one second think I’ve given up one of my big loves in life. But come on!” she gestured toward Minou, who was in the middle of grooming herself, “I challenge you to find anything cuter than a cat in a dress.”
“Sounds like a tough challenge,” Nokto said, a sudden gleam in his eyes, “what do I get if I win?”
That didn’t sound good at all. Shiloh eyed Nokto warily, wondering what the tricky fox was up to. But it wasn’t like she could take it back-withdrawing now would just make it look like she thought Nokto could actually do it. She would have to face this head on. “If you can succeed, I’ll take you up on one of your non-sexual! invitations.”
Nokto’s grin made her immediately regret her words. “Sounds like a deal. I hope you keep to your word.”
Ah, great. Shiloh blamed her poor decision on the awful heat.
* * *
Well, today was the day. Nokto had messaged Shiloh to let her know he was ready to show her something cuter, and Shiloh could only hope that he came up with something perverted; it would be a pain to deal with, but at least she lose and be dragged along on whatever plan he had up his sleeves. All Shiloh could do was count down the minutes until the time Nokto promised to arrive, her eyes boring holes at the street corner he should come down.
She’d wracked her brain, trying to think of every possibility available, but when Nokto finally rounded that corner, she realized nothing could prepare her. Shiloh slapped her palm over her mouth to stop herself from bursting out laughing at the sight before her.
“Well?” Nokto twirled for her, the hem of the dress he wore flaring out with the motion, “What do you think?”
“Wh-why?” Shiloh wheezed behind her hand, still struggling not to laugh despite the realization that the dress actually looked good on Nokto. He’d gotten it tailored to his measurements and picked a colour that went well with his skin tone, so he was clearly taking it seriously . . . kinda. Nokto hadn’t passed up the opportunity to be as, well, slutty as possible: the dress was a slinky little number, the neckline was cut as low as physically possible, and there was a slit along his right thigh nearly to the waist, revealing pantyhose of all things! Why was he like this?!
Nokto struck a couple of unnecessarily sexy poses, “Because it’s clear that the only thing cuter than a cat in a dress is a fox in a dress, wouldn’t you say?”
Shiloh had a lot she wanted to say, such as “but you’re not an actual fox” and “then why didn’t you wear a cute dress?”, but none of that mattered more than telling him, “There’s no way this counts.” Nokto just smirked, like he was prepared to debate this all day if he had to, and Shiloh knew, with a dawning sort of horror, that she’d sealed her fate the moment she set up that condition.
Maybe she could still get something out of it if she convinced Nokto to wear a dress to whatever party he wanted to drag her to-at least that would give her something positive to look forward to in the face of her crushing defeat.

If it isn't too much could we get a little story about the boys being jealous from Mc bumping into their ex (Mc ex that is)
All His (GN!MC x Keith)
You and Keith are walking home hand in hand. You stopped by his workplace after running an errand around the time his shift would end. And now you get to return together.
The weather is nice, which makes the walk pleasant. And you get to listen to Keith telling you about his day. Apparently, he got a fun order today.
As he's about to tell you which flowers he picked for the center of the arrangement, you notice someone familiar walking towards you from the opposite direction. You try not to visibly cringe at the realization. You want to think of an attempt to go unrecognized, but it's already too late. He saw you.
"Y/N! It's been so long!" your ex says as he stops in front of you, forcing you and Keith to a stop as well.
"Oh, hi," you say a bit awkwardly.
"You haven't been answering my texts."
Oh no. He'd always been the insistent type. Part of you had hoped he'd notice you're holding hands with someone, take a hint and go on his way.
"Excuse me," Keith cuts in before you can respond, probably having noticed that you're not very happy to see this person. "I don't believe we've been introduced."
"Right. This is Keith, my boyfriend. Keith, this is Andy, my ex." The word "ex" comes out as if it's painful to pronounce.
Neither of them seem to take the information well. Andy's eyes go wide, while Keith's features subtly harden.
"Oh, you got a boyfriend." There's a poor attempt at sounding casual and not at all disappointed. It fails miserably at convincing Keith.
"They did."
Keith slips an arm around your waist, pulling you towards him. "Now that you know this, perhaps you'll stop texting them."
The tension is thick enough to cut with a knife. The normally timid and sweet florist is doing a pretty good job at intimidating the other guy.
"Chill, man. I wasn't trying-"
"You weren't? Then what business do you have texting them multiple times?"
Keith regular soft and gentle features are now held in a stern gaze that could make the sea freeze over. Andy doesn't enjoy it much. He holds his hands up.
"If you're gonna be like this, I'll go. It was nice seeing you, Y/N."
Keith doesn't take his eyes off him as he walks around you two and goes on his way. You feel like you can breathe again now that he's gone.
The rest of the walk isn't as pleasant as it started. Keith doesn't continue his story about flowers. His grip on your hand is a little tighter, though not enough to hurt you or feel uncomfortable. His features have softened, too, but a small frown remains as he stares at his own feet.
"Has he been bothering you for long?" he asks, just as the two of you reach the door to the apartment complex.
"Huh? Oh, he sent a few messages a few weeks ago, but I ignored him."
"Why didn't you tell him you're seeing someone?"
"I didn't really want to talk to him. I just hoped he'd give up. If he didn't, I would've just blocked him."
Keith doesn't say anything else as you two make your way to your apartment. Once inside,  you both busy yourselves with different tasks. You know by now that it's better to leave Keith alone for some time when he is angry, even if not with you.
Half an hour later, you notice he is still quieter than normal, so you join him in the kitchen, where he's started making dinner.
"Are you still upset?" you ask.
"What? I'm not upset." He looks at you with mild offense.
"Yes, you are. You still have your jealous face on."
"I- I have a jealous face?"
The fact that he can stutter and sound surprised means he's at least calmed down to a great extent.
You laugh. "Keith, you're the only one for me. Andy is just some idiot that I couldn't care less about."
He sets down a spoon as you walk up to him and place a hand on his cheek. The frown on his face relaxes and a tiny smile replaces it. Only to return a moment later.
"I don't like how he talks to you, like he still has a chance."
"He doesn't."
You pull him in for a kiss. As soon as he notices what you're trying to do, his slips his arms around your back and attacks your mouth with his. Most of his kisses are gentle, but this one is desperate and possessive, like an angry cry towards anyone and anything that might want to take you from him.
He presses his forehead to yours when you break away from the kiss. Greed glistens in those blue eyes.
"Will you block him? And tell me if you run into him again."
"Alright, I will. But you have nothing to worry about. I'm all yours."
He kisses you again, softer this time and lingers there for a moment before speaking. "I'll never get tired of hearing that." More kisses trail down your neck.
"Hey. Weren't we going to make dinner?" you remind him.
The attack on your neck stops, followed by a small sigh. "I suppose we shouldn't skip a meal. Alright, let's do that first. But afterward..."
You give him a sly smile in response to his unvoiced question. It satisfies him, because he turns back to the counter.

I guess I should discuss the AU that's been rattling around in my brain in a little more detail, rather than just making shitposts about it. So here's the basic gist of it:
We all know there was one surviving universe at the end of Honerva's rampage in VLD's (pretty bad) finale before everything was restored to normal- but could it really survive everything that happened around it unscathed?
The answer is no. Of course it's no.
In a twist of irony, given Honerva's goals, Lotor is deleted from a universe that would have otherwise been very close to the canon universe as we know it- which is... kind of a problem, actually. As in 'the universe could fall apart if this event doesn't happen' problem. But don't worry. The cosmic forces of the universe has a stopgap measure of its own in place to protect itself.
After all, what could go wrong with the universe using one half-Galra to replace another?
Keith is born to Zarkon and Honerva in Lotor's place. He's always felt out of place in a way that simply only being half-Galra can't quite explain. He has a strong sensitivity to quintessence, and knows from a young age that his father and the witch that stands by his side are corrupted.
He knows he's corrupted too. he can hear things that are not him whispering in his head sometimes, telling him things. he ignores them.
(this is sometimes harder than he would like)
(on very rare occasions he hears a different voice from the rabble- one that calmly tells him not to do things. he listens to this one a little more.)
He grows up loathing his father- it's a mutual feeling. He knows that even before he was born, his mother loathed him as well. He grows up with no strong connection to their either side of his heritage.
(perhaps honerva subconsciously realized the child she was carrying was not her own)
He breaks away from the Empire on his own at an early age- he knows in his bones this is wrong, and wants no part in it. He ends up safeguarding a pocket of space from the Empire, but his motives remain erratic and he stays aloof from the other forces against the Empire, so he's not exactly trusted by them.
After all, he's not exactly not still a part of the Empire himself. Zarkon's not going to let his only heir walk away that easily.
He still ends up meeting Acxa, Narti, Ezor and Zethrid.
He's born with the Altean talent of shapeshifting- though he's better at it than most. He wears three faces- the Galran prince, the Altean wanderer, and then a third face, one of a race he has never seen before, yet feels oddly familiar to him.
(Sometimes it feels more natural than the one he was born with.)
He later learns of a planet called Earth, and its people known as humans, who so resemble his third face- and the blue lion with them. He decides to keep an eye on the planet with the excuse of trying to protect the lion... which is surely the only reason he feels such a strong draw to this otherwise backwater planet.
Which is great, because it turns out replacing Lotor with Keith created another problem the universe has to deal with- there isn't a Keith anymore to pilot the red lion.
He just kind of gets swept up in everything when the blue lion awakens, and before he knows it, he's on the Castle of Lions, and Princess Allura of all people is telling him he's a paladin. They all seem to think he's human.
Somehow, he senses it would be a very, very bad idea to tell them all he's actually Zarkon's son.
Great job Keith. You signed up for the universe's most stressful double life. I'm sure this is going to work out real well.
(I am lying.)

Compromised - Platonic Yandere! Voltron x Reader
Tumblr media
This was a lot longer than what I intended it to be but whatever🔥
Tumblr media
The rapid sound of footsteps echoed through the hallways, a sense of urgency present with each step taken. As the door came into view, the one door that held the most important thing in the universe, a sigh of relief was heard in the now quiet hall. He tried listening through the door for any signs of life, in which he received none, causing him to abruptly open the door.
There you laid on a bed, eyes tracing the ceiling blankly, ignoring the intruding figure at the entrance of your room. “Why didn’t you respond to the communicator Y/N?”
Turning your head, you stared at Shiro for a few seconds before ultimately deciding to stand up. “Sorry Shiro, I was just having so much fun. In this empty room. Doing absolutely nothing. Dying from absolute excitement.” The sarcasm seeped out like venom with each word, causing the man to wince.
Sighing, he responded, “I know staying in here isn’t an exactly ideal situation, but it’s the best way in keeping you safe.” Hopefully you would understand this time.
“Keeping me safe from what? The Galra? Space? You guys aren’t protecting me from anything, you’re only scared of what could happen to me.”
“Y/N.” Shiro just couldn’t understand how you didn’t see all the dangers that lay beyond the castle walls. How they’ve faced death on so many occasions just so they could continue saving the universe.
“No! It isn’t fair that I’m stuck locked in this stupid room with you saying you’re protecting me when you guys willingly throw yourselves in the face of danger! I can defend myself, I’m a paladin of Voltron too!”
“No you cannot Y/N. Remember how Keith had to save you from that Galra soldier who tried slicing you in half? Or how you lost your bayard because you were too busy trying to escape one of the sentrys’ shooting at you? Everything we do is for you, whether you choose to see that is on you.”
In frustration, you grabbed the nearest item (aka a pillow) and threw it against the wall, watching the feathers explode from its case. This wasn’t fair.
“I got my bayard in the end though! And if I lose my bayard again I can always try to summon it back like you did! I’m more than just some item to be kept away forever. I am a part of this team as much as anyone else!”
Dragging his metal hand across his face, Shiro had to take a deep breath before walking fully into the room, sitting on your bed after locking the door behind him. He patted the spot next to him, urging you to sit with him, which you reluctantly did.
“I was only able to get the black lions’ bayard by chance Y/N. In a real situation, if your bayard was taken from you, the chances of you successfully summoning your bayard is extremely low.” This caused you to deflate a bit.
“We know how bad you want to join us during missions, but putting you out in the field is too much of a risk we don’t want to take. Y/n, please, you have to see how important you are to all of us. The thought of you getting hurt physically pains me.”
This caused you to hang your head low, making Shiro think he finally knocked some sense into you. “But you guys get hurt too. Why am I the only exception? If you just give me the opportunity to show you all I can be helpful then I wouldn’t constantly fight against you.”
“You don’t even have a lion Y/N. You know yours was destroyed during the creation of the lions, so even if we were to allow you on missions you wouldn’t be able to do much. It’s better to have you away from battle.
Finally getting fed up, you sprang from the bed onto your feet which surprised Shiro. You didn’t care if they didn’t allow you into battle. You didn’t care if you had to stay with Coran watching and aiding from the sidelines, you just wanted to be out of this room.
Suddenly Allura’s voice rang throughout the castle and in your room from the speakers. “Shiro we need you in the bridge immediately.”
You watched with intense eyes as the man got up from your bed, heading towards the door of the room. “Shiro if you leave without me right now, I promise you I will do everything in my power to leave by myself.”
Shiro hesitated for a moment, hearing how bitter the words were. Looking back, all he could see was the anger in your eyes, as if you already knew what he was going to say.
“I’m sorry Y/N, we’ll continue talking about this when I come back.” This caused you to flop on your bed staring straight up at the ceiling once again, just like how he had originally found you.
Opening the door, he looked back once more, departing with his final words, “Please make sure you respond to the communicator on time.”
Receiving no reply, Shiro walked out, locked the door, and began heading to the control room, completely unaware of your quiet plans.
Sitting up, you listened as Shiro’s footsteps became quieter the further he walked away from your room until there was nothing but silence. Closing your eyes, you began focusing on the one thing you’ve been training yourself for after all this time. Shiro was able to summon the black lions bayard from a vast distance, who’s to say you couldn’t do it either.
Despite Shiro’s past words echoing in your mind, you brushed it off, almost feeling like this will finally be the attempt that will succeed. Having your bayard would mean being able to get out of the suffocating room, and a chance at freedom. You were taking a huge risk in attempting this but at this point, nothing else really mattered. Only the thought of freedom was keeping your fire burning.
Concentrating hard, you began slowing your heartbeat, taking deep breaths, and trying to connect yourself to your bayard. Searching, it took a while before you found the resembling energy of your bayard. It was faint, very faint actually, showing the distance between you and your beacon of hope.
Opening your hand slightly, you began imagining the feeling of the bayard, remembering how it weighed in your hand and remembering the energy it had given you in the short moments you had it.
It was yours, it’s energy finally connecting with your own. The feeling was uncomfortable at first, it was almost like something was being shoved into your body, making you feel a whole new energy present.
A bright light flashed causing your heartbeat to accelerate, praying that the light was really what you thought it was. Slowly opening your eyes, the heavy weight in your hand confirmed your prayers. The bayard was clutched in your hand, gleaming under the light of your room.
“YES! YESYESYESYES YEEESSS!” Jumping on the bed with joy, your eyes slightly filled with tears. You knew you could do it! Everything they’ve said about you was wrong!
“Oh my gosh I actually did it! Haha suck on that Shiro!” Your bayard transformed into your weapon, the feeling of your dagger familiar and comforting as you ran to the door. Forcing the dagger between the wall and the door, you grunted from the force you applied as you tried opening it.
Slowly but surely, it slowly began to slide open, the small opening being forced wide enough for your whole body to fit through.
You needed to get to an escape pod immediately before any of them noticed you were running around the castle freely. You’ll figure out step two once you’re out of the castle.
Sprinting through the corridors, you realized you were on the opposite side of where you needed to be. You could only hope you made it far enough before one of them took notice.
While the others spoke of their next move against the Galra, Coran was busy loading up information onto the system, when he got a small pop up of a small dot traveling quickly through the halls.
“Uh guys? I think we may have a problem.” Quickly tapping around, he pulled up a camera to your room first, eyes widening as he saw the forced opening of your door.
“What’s going on Coran?” Hunk moved next to the shocked man, his own eyes opening wide while the rest of the group gathered around quickly. Keith was the first one to dash out of the room not wanting to waste another second as you ran through the halls of the castle.
“How did they even do that?!” Lance quickly grabbed his bayard, anxiously waiting for instructions. The group watched as Coran replayed the video, seeing you struggling while trying to open the door with your dagger, the one thing their eyes focused on immediately.
“Alright team let’s move out! Coran do you have any idea where Y/N could be heading?” Hunk and Pidge went to retrieve their own bayards while Allura stared at the screen with a blank face.
“Uuummm from what I’m seeing, they’re trying to get to the opposite side of the castle!”
“Y/N is trying to get to the escape pods.” Allura was awoken from her trance like state, running towards the doors of the control room, everyone following after her.
“Here you go paladins! Y/N is a bit ahead of you all but it seems Keith is near them.” A map popped up in the group’s helmets, the red dot a stark contrast against the six blue dots that moved across a map of the castle.
“Alright listen up! Our best bet is to try and cut Y/N off from their path. We need to lead them back to the control room, there we’ll have the upper hand in a more enclosed space!” Shiro’s voice was strong and powerful as he spoke, the others grunting in agreement as they all continued running down the corridors.
“Found them!” Keith yelled out as the group followed to where his and Y/N’s dot were shown on the map.
Quickly turning the corner, Pidge was abruptly shoved into a wall as Allura saved her from the flying knife heading her way.
“Keith!”
“WHY CAN’T YOU GUYS JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!” You yelled out in frustration, blocking Keith’s attacks with your much smaller blade. Kicking him back, Keith stumbled onto Lance, causing both of them to tumble onto the ground.
Running around the next corner, the rest of the team followed after you.
“Remember the plan guys! Left!” In confusion, you looked back only to see a blast coming straight for you on your right. Quickly jumping to the left, you turned the left corner in order to avoid Lance and Hunks’ nonstop firing.
Running down the hall, you were about to make a right until Shiro yelled out, “Left!”
You watched with wide and shocked eyes as Keith’s sword flew straight past your head and into the wall in front of you. This caused you to stumble a little into the wall, running towards the left once again.
“WHAT THE HELL KEITH! ARE YOU ACTUALLY TRYING TO KILL ME?!” After running down multiple hallways, it didn’t take you long to figure out they were trying to lead you somewhere as you began recognizing some of the rooms you ran by.
Were they trying to herd you into one of the rooms?! Looking back once again, you noticed how concentrated all of them looked as they followed you down each turn. Deciding to take the ultimate risk, you headed in the opposite direction Shiro yelled out. “Left!”
Taking a breath in, you ducked past Allura’s whip as she threw it rather aggressively, instead heading towards the right. You needed to get to a pod asap, you were beginning to grow tired.
You used your advantage to put as much space between you and the paladins as they stumbled confused into a wall after you didn’t turn into the direction they were leading you to.
“Uh guys! I think Y/N found out what we’re trying to do!” Hunk yelled out as he quickly pushed himself off the wall, huffing a bit as exhaustion began seeping through his bones.
“No kidding! What do we do now?!” Lance could only run so fast before he began falling behind with Hunk.
“Run!” Keith could feel his heart thumping against his chest, watching as you turned the final corner before disappearing from their sight. Pushing harder, he, Allura, and Shiro swiftly followed after you with Pidge close behind.
You finally had made it to one of the escape pods, quickly trying to open it before hearing a loud shout.
“I’m sorry Y/N!” Next thing you knew, a wire was wrapped around your leg and you were yanked off the pod. Grunting out in pain from the harsh landing, you quickly in return yanked Pidge’s cord with all your strength causing her to lose her balance.
“Y/N please! What has gotten into you?!” Allura was huffing a bit yet she was filled with enough energy to fight if needed.
“What has gotten into ME?! I absolutely refuse to be locked up again!” At this, Lance and Hunk busted through and into the room where all of you stood tensely, waiting for someone to make a move.
You stood your ground, clutching onto your dagger tightly, watching silently before noticing Keith eyeing your weapon.
“How did you get that?”
“Doesn’t matter how I got it. Let me go.”
Furrowing his eyebrows, Keith began to run towards you before he felt a hand clamping over his shoulder. You stood in a more defensive position after the abrupt movement. Keith’s angry eyes made contact with Shiro’s narrowed ones.
“You can’t leave Y/N. Even if you get into the pod you won’t be able to get out of the castle.”
You wouldn’t let them see how your hands shook, you won’t let them know that you knew Shiro was right. Not after you came this far. Not when you were so close to freedom.
That’s when an idea came into your head.
Quickly, you pointed the dagger straight over your heart, now knowing you had the upper hand as you heard the gasps coming from all of them. You were only bluffing but with the state you were in, they didn’t know that.
“Y/N!” Hunk gasped in shock, hands suddenly trembling with fear. Allura gulped audibly, her hands now tightly clutching her weapon, hoping that’ll lower her nerves.
“Y/N please. Please take that away from you.” Keith’s voice strained in anxiety, eyes wide as he watched you take a few steps back. Lance lowered his gun, hoping that that might calm you down.
“There’s a better way this could end.” Shiro looked at the group, fear present in all of their eyes. Pidge was the first one to drop her bayard, almost sensing that was the only way to pacify you.
“Thanks Pidge. Now the rest of you, drop your weapons.” They all hesitated until you threateningly moved the dagger closer to your chest. Quickly, Lance dropped his weapon with Hunk following after him. After intensely staring at you, Allura threw down her bayard, hearing it clank loudly against the floor.
Being the last one, Keith looked over to Shiro, seeing the man nod, he dropped his sword, watching it turn back to its original form. You had completely forgotten about his knife, seeing as you soon began to relax a bit.
“We’re willing to work with you Y/N. But not if you’re openly threatening your own life.” Allura’s voice was sharp, yet you could hear the slight tremble in her voice.
Glancing at all of them one last time, you slowly lowered you weapon, letting your arms fall to your side. Walking over to the spacecraft, you leaned against it and had to hold back a chuckle as you saw all of them flinch the closer you got to the ship.
“I don’t want to be locked up anymore.” Was the first thing you said after a few moments of silence. Shiro clenched his jaw, already knowing where this was heading.
“You all say this was for the better but I was slowly going insane trapped in there. You all seem to know me well. You know under normal circumstances, I would never go against you guys.”
You slowly walked up to the group, glancing around to find a camera pointed directly at you all, knowing Coran was watching how this all went down. Like a predator stalking its prey, you circled around them, kicking their bayards further away from them, one by one.
Now standing in front of them, at a distance, you looked at them each in the eyes.
“Now let’s talk.”

Yayyy!
Guys, I completely forgot that yesterday was @lilcatastrophe's birthday!
Tumblr media
You are absolutely amazing!!!! Imma make myself write something in your honor, thank you so much for being so kind and encouraging!
Have I written a birthday themed thingy yet?
(My brainstorming process is saying, 'What's a stupid thing we can do to Keith' until I have an idea.)
I love the word extravagant. Flamboyant is fun too. It sounds like flamingo.
-------------------------------
Lance is distraught.
He had been planning to throw Keith a surprise birthday party in honor of their unexpected friendship. He'll never say it aloud, but Keith might actually become a closer friend to Lance than Hunk.
It's hard to say when that started.
Maybe it was late at night in the kitchen when nightmares kept them both up, and they talked for hours just to avoid sleep.
Or it could be seeing Keith laughing on some distant planet somewhere in space, after they had pulled a prank on Shiro out of boredom. (They may have switched his shampoo out for hair dye. Shiro is still quite intimidating with a neon-pink hair floof.)
There's a million tiny moments with Keith that Lance could list, but regardless, he wants to show his appreciation towards Keith in some (extravagant) way.
However, the red paladin had pulled him aside just a couple days before to request that Lance wouldn't do anything big for him.
So now Lance is having a crisis.
Shiro is no help, he apparently finds the whole situation funny, chuckling lightly anytime Lance paces past him.
Keith’s birthday comes too soon. And all Lance has to show for it is a badly wrapped knife, some alien bananas that taste like strawberries, and a cupcake that he made under the careful guidance of Hunk.
They didn’t celebrate, Shiro respects The fact that Keith hates attention, and everyone else kind of just forgot.
Lance taps his knuckles softly to Keith’s door, and there’s a muffled clamor from inside the room before Keith comes out.
Keith scans the tanned boy in front of him wearily before asking with a raised brow, “Can I help you?”
For some reason, Lance clams up and just shoved the gifts into Keith’s face.
At some point, they’ve both ended up in Keith’s room atop his bed.
Keith’s eyes widen when he sees the gifts, and for a moment Lance is ashamed. He feels pretty shabby giving Keith such generic gifts, but his spiraling thoughts are cut off by the other paladin leaping into his arms.
“Thank you. You… I didn’t know I needed this until you gave it to me.”
For a second, Lance thinks Keith is talking about the knife, but then he notices sincere amethyst eyes trained on him.
“You always know what I need, even before I do.”
The warmth that fills Lance is like summer rain and sunsets over the glittering ocean, but more importantly, it’s being here with Keith in his arms.
He stands suddenly and grabs the cupcake before carrying Keith all the way to the observatory, ignoring any protests.
Lance loves this room becomes of its lack of walls. The whole ceiling is made of a glass dome, and the only actual wall is the one with the door.
It’s almost scary, and Lance feels almost lost surrounded by the cosmos like this.
He turns to Keith and hold the small cake up.
“Happy birthday, Love. You deserve every one of these stars and so much more.”
Keith dismisses the random pet name and curls up at Lance’s side.
“Nah. This is all I need.”
They split the cake and stare up at the stars (and Lance graciously ignores the fat, happy tears rolling down Keith’s face).
And you know what? Like this, Lance really does feel like he has absolutely everything.
———————-
You’re the greatest, Kay! Once again, have the happiest happy birthday!

Please
i reblogged that literally four seconds before you sent this ask
Lying face-down on couches brings Keith a lot of joy. He couldn’t tell you why, but something about his nose being tucked between couch cushions is soothing.
Keith has had a long couple of days. Mission after mission of dealing with anyone and anything that could possibly get in his way. Red was pissier than ever, jostling the cabin in response to his own aggression.
So he tucks his face into the couch cushions late into the night, so late it was considered morning, and heaves out a breath to try and catch some modicum of sleep.
“Hey there, Ace.” Lance says above him.
Keith murmurs something hateful into the couch, something about Lance fucking off and dying. Unfortunately, Lance does not catch this and if he did, he does not take the hint, because he can feel the slight warmth radiating off of the blue paladin’s thigh into the top of his head.
Lance goes quiet, the only sound coming out of him is the slight whistle and heave of his breathing.
Resettling back into the cushions, Keith tries to go back to sleep.
Key word: tries.
Amidst all that trying, ignoring Lance’s thigh nestled against the top of his head, Keith feels crafty fingers built for a blaster start to thread into his hair.
His breath hitches and Keith feels something in his spine yank tight, looping around the gaps in his vertebrae and squeezing until he can’t breathe.
The fingers don’t pull away from his hair. Mussed and sweat-ridden from hours beneath a space helmet as it was, Lance’s careful fingers don’t stop moving through the dark strands with a careful, practiced ease.
It’s not…world-ending. Keith finds himself inching a little further into it, his nose leaving the safety of the crack in the couch cushions just a bit so Lance can rest his palm on the top of Keith’s head.
Touch is seldom-known to Keith who grew up bounced between houses, never homes, who would rather tuck his knife up his sleeve than take off the jacket. Shiro did his best to initiate physical contact, but after The Incidient, touch fell off the table.
The two of them go on like this for hours, Lance playing with the strands of Keith’s hair and Keith relishing in it like a cat lying on a rock in the sun. Keith shifted his cheek onto Lance’s thigh, moving his arms so he can hold onto his pillow’s other leg. He falls asleep like this. And its the best damn sleep his ass has ever had in his life.
Everyone on the castle takes a scrapbook’s worth of pictures. Lance’s are the most coveted, taken one-handed as Keith sleeps contentedly in Lance’s lap.
i hope u like this i think i cooked

“I know, buddy, I know.” Keith scratches behind his big dumb dog’s ears, pressing a million kisses to his forehead because he’s got Black to himself for the next day and there’s no one (Shiro) to clown him for it. Kosmo barks excitedly, wagging his floofy tail so fast it beats against the dashboard and system controls. Keith laughs, moving his scratching fingers down the wolf’s head and neck and to his back, where he likes to be scratched best.
“I know you’re hyper, huh?” he coos, blowing a raspberry. “But that’s what you get. You know you always get too excited when you hang out with Lance. You should have stayed with me.”
At the mention of the Red Paladin’s name, Kosmo starts howling, bounding out from Keith’s lap and tumbling to the floor, nails clacking against the metal as he flips around Black’s cockpit.
Keith huffs. “You raise a wolf from a pup, showering him in treats and affection, and you still fall second best to the first guy he meets who teaches him to fetch. Figures.”
It’s ridiculous, is what it is. Two straight years together on the space whale, but Kosmo lays eyes on Lance for one measly second and falls in love. He’s genuinely obsessed with the guy, and it doesn’t help that Lance is unbelievably smug about it, indulging Kosmo’s every whim and burst of affection just to grate on Keith. He has on twelve seperate occasions radioed the Black Lion to talk to Kosmo only, completely ignoring Keith.
“I can’t blame ya,” Keith says quietly. His voice is still a little teasing, still a little exasperated, but even he can hear the gooey fondness in it. “Lance is just that good, huh?”
Kosmo barks again, loud and fast, then flashes as he blips out of existence then back into existence right on Keith’s lap. Keith chokes as 200 pounds of floof is suddenly deposited on his person, but recovers quickly. (Kosmo will never remember that he is no longer a little puppy. Keith is just going to have to get used to having his lungs crushed.)
He starts to stroke Kosmo’s fur again, gently this time, calming him down.
“I should say something,” he says, more to himself than to his dog. “Ugh. I mean, it’s Lance, right? He’s my best friend. He’ll most definitely tease me, but he won’t, like, mock me or anything. He’s good like that. He knows exactly when to be serious, like during that last gala thing we had when we landed on a planet a while back. He just knew I was feeling off, just like that.”
Keith buried his face in Kosmo’s fur, hiding his smile. “He’s just…everything, you know? I’m always thinking about him. I have been for years. Hell, I talked about him so much on that stupid whale that you recognised him before you even met him, buddy. That’s objectively bonkers. But I can’t…” He sighs, leaning back in the pilot seat and staring unseeingly through the windshield. A red dot flashes gently at the bottom corner, but he pays it no mind.
“He’s sweet when no one’s looking. And even when people are looking, sometimes. And I’ll die before I even imply it in his direction, but he’s funny, too. And his fucking brain, dear God, that man could outwit anyone if he was under enough pressure. He saved our asses more than once when we were stumbling our way through this co-leading thing in the beginning. And anyone with eyes can tell that he’s hot.” Keith’s ears burn a little, thinking of the Coalition videos. “Seriously hot. And…leggy.”
He cracks up, embarrassed giggles bubbling up his throat. His next words are muffled by the hand he has pressed to his face. “God, I want him to fuck me up.”
Kosmo raises his head from where it was resting on Keith’s knee, staring at him in what Keith can only assume is judgment.
“Shut up,” Keith says hotly. “You once farted so loud you scared yourself and cried for ten minutes. You don’t get to judge me about being embarrassing.”
Keith is losing it. He is defending his character to a dog. He groans loudly, dragging his hand down his face.
“I should tell him, shouldn’t I,” he mutters. “Just — come out with it. ‘Leandro Esposita-McClain, I am in love with you.’ Straight to the point. Rip off the band-aid.”
Kosmo yips quietly. Keith snorts.
“Yeah, you’re right. That’s crazy. He’s my friend, I don’t want to ruin things. I’ll just suffer in silence the next time he looks at me and the fuckin’ sun bleeds into his eyes and makes them look like golden honey or whatever. Jesus.” He reaches for his book and props it open, muttering to himself. “It’s always the fuckin’ pretty ones that get me, huh?”
Kosmo barks loudly in what can only be agreement, and Keith scoffs, flicking him on the shout. “Yeah, yeah, you lug. Bug off with the teasing and let me read in peace, alright? I’ll tell him someday. He doesn’t need to know now.”
.
.
.
(A beep echoes through the Red Lion’s cockpit as her paladin slams on the ‘call end’ button, eyes wide and chest heaving, having listened curiously when he’d been radioed out of nowhere mid-conversation between the Bladk Paladin and his dog. And then listened in shock as the Black Paladin had brought up him. Brought up being in love with him, with his heart and his eyes and his legs, apparently.
Red blooms on his cheeks.)
