Deep in Nobara brainrot rn all I can think is how Gege built her friendship with Saori from her very introduction just to randomly introduce Fumi in ch124 and have Nobara's emotional moment be about a promise we had never heard of to a girl we'd never met. Like my God this is such a weird creative decision? Saori is the ONLY person Nobara had ever mentioned from her past (mind you before ch125 we only knew about her grandma thanks to Word of Gege, Nobara had never mentioned her) then all of a sudden there's a childhood friend she treasured just as much?

Not to mention Fumi's POV in that flashback ACCOMPLISHED NOTHING. At the end of it we're left with way more questions about Nobara's past. What's the reason her grandmother isn't in one of her chairs? Where's the rest of her family? Why does she actually hate the village? We were led to believe it was because the villagers drove Saori away but Fumi's flashback stablished Nobara hated them BEFORE Saori came around so WHY? Why did she think everyone was crazy in that place and immediately latched onto the two outsiders? What could’ve happened that made a SIX YEAR OLD so adamant in hating everyone? And absolutely no insight on her being trained as a sorcerer in the countryside? Even when we know, per Nanako and Mimiko's backstory, how sorcerers can be persecuted by countryside folk because of superstitions? No? Really? None of that? Nothing at all? So we're just going to... introduce this random girl... instead of answering.... I see...

ANYWAYS either Gege completely lost it there or there is a plan that's going to make everything come together and blow my mind. I have my own theories about this and Nobara's comeback and her role in the culling games but that's a post for another day. In short—Gege gimme some info or ELSE

still kind of insane to me that people talk shit about jiang cheng without fully understanding what he has been through so lets just understand what his mental state is like BEFORE canon begins:

born via a dysfunctional marriage to be the sect heir

father doesnt care for him, mother expects too much from him/everything he does is not enough

has his three dogs just kicked out randomly with no notice because of some kid he's never heard of by the father who never gave him love and/or attention

said father then favours this kid more than him, to the point that the entire world basically thinks that this kid is biologically your father's son as well, which causes even more family dysfunction

despite this still learns to love this kid as his unofficial brother

works his absolute hardest but is always second-best because his new shixiong is naturally talented

nobody appreciates the hard work he puts in at being second place despite the fact wwx literally doesnt work hard for it

masks his emotions with anger as a coping mechanism to minimise the amount of hurt he feels

ok great so now lets actually take all of the above and apply this mental wellbeing to canon events FROM HIS PERSPECTIVE (keep in mind this is literally what jc is seeing/experiencing because he DOESNT KNOW what the reader knows):

brother is off being the protagonist and getting in trouble and gets their sisters marriage ruined

comes home from a year away and then almost immediately has to go and be a hostage where brother continues his protagonist behaviour

gets trapped and nearly dies in a cave with a 400-year-old monster, is in charge of finding a way out and making sure everyone else escapes

brother and a guy who maybe hates him get stuck behind in the cave so now jiang cheng has to boost it home ON FOOT, without food, to get manpower to rescue them, which takes a minimum of a few days likely without any food or sleep

no appreciation or thanks for doing that since brother was more heroic and killed the 400-year-old monster

gets scolded by his father for being annoyed by this

parents immediately get into another fight about father loving wwx more than jc

because of the above shenanigans their sect is targeted next

tries to defend brother against being whipped to death and/or having his hand cut off by mother

witnesses his entire sect being burned and murdered

loses both his parents

decides to sacrifice himself to save his brother's life, instead of dying he is tortured and has his golden core melted

on top of his inferiority issues, the ONE THING he was expected to do was be the sect leader for the yunmeng jiang. the sect that no longer exists. he is now a sect leader with no sect and no golden core. no shit he wants to mcfuckin die

miraculously gets a new golden core but loses his brother

immediately plunged into a war and he's only like 17

spends 3 months trying to find his brother only for his brother to show up doing the Forbidden Magic and necromancy which is Super Disrespectful in their culture like holy shit what are you doing

brother refuses to use his sword in favour of the Forbidden Magics and kind of keeps undermining jc's orders as sect leader which makes jc look weak in front of all the other sect leaders when he's actively trying to rebuild their sect and be respected as a leader

fights a war for [handwaves] an amount of time, certainly a few years minimum, while watching his brother descend further into Unhealthy Behaviour but brother refuses to do anything or talk about it

ends up lowkey being a war hero

the other three great sects (of which there are now only four) swear brotherhood, leaving out ONLY ymj/jiang cheng, which, what the Fuck dude

is now a teenager who has lost his parents who now has to rebuild his sect from scratch with fuck all money, supplies, and support

brother, who promised to always be at his side helping, is not helping, and in fact is actively just getting drunk and being a nuisance and STILL REFUSING TO SAY WHY

entire cultivation world starts to turn on his brother who is now looking like a loose cannon bc he has Forbidden Magics that are Terrifyingly Powerful and also it has been proven that he does not give a fuck about jc's opinion since he's constantly doing whatever the fuck he wants

literally out of nowhere said brother decides to piss off everyone, start fights, and then KILL JIN GUARDS at a camp and MAKE OFF with like fifty people who are part of the family that he just fought a war against and were responsible for slaughtering his family/sect

go to the terrifying haunted mountain where wwx and the wen remnants are and sees that he's essentially starting a new family with a kid and crops, doesn't seem to care that jiang cheng is still trying to keep the ymj afloat and look like they have any strength

brother is still doing Forbidden Magic and refuses to explain why, and now says he'll secede from the ymj so his bad reputation doesn't reflect on jc like he HASNT BEEN DOING THAT THE WHOLE TIME

so now shixiong wants to just abandon jc completely after jc has lost his parents, had to rebuild everything from scratch, while ignoring the promise he's made their whole life? ok fuck you

jc also can't defend him in public because that would turn the ymj into a target and please keep in mind he is a teenager who was expected to do this ONE THING by his parents and he has poured his heart and soul and blood and tears into rebuilding the ymj and they are So Vulnerable Right Now

uhhh what the fuck suddenly wwx kills their sister's husband ?? bro what the FUCK?

everyone rallies to go and attack wwx for this and again jc literally cant do anything about it and refusing to go will just make everyone assume he's on wwx's side and their sect can't afford to be attacked rn

bro what the fuck now THEIR SISTER IS DEAD?????

oh even better now said brother is DEAD

jiang cheng literally has NO ONE LEFT. no friends. no family. no parents, no siblings, everyone he knew growing up is dead. its literally just him and his infant nephew, who by the way, is living with the sect who are the most powerful and also most likely to be super fucking shady so jc has to tread very carefully

so jc spends over a decade raising his nephew ALONE while trying to make ymj powerful and also hunting/killing demonic cultivators that now p much only exist bc his brother invented/popularised the technique

oh yeah and also this whole time the guy who maybe hated his brother is now like EVEN colder and more antagonistic towards jc like it was HIS FAULT that wwx is dead? get fucked lan wangji you didnt even like the guy (or if this is cql/untamed canon: you literally did nothing either so where do you get off on acting like you're better than jc)

over a decade passes and suddenly his dead brother is alive again and causing more problems and acting like the things he did were not major contributors towards jc's entire family and sect dying

More Political Drama Happens and jc has to manage it

suddenly its revealed that the guy he's been co-raising his nephew with is the major villain who caused the entire world to turn on wwx in the first place oh and also it turns out that the fucking miraculous core jc has IS HIS BROTHER'S, WHO NEVER SAID ANYTHING, AND THIS IS THE REASON HE STARTED THE FORBIDDEN MAGICS AND STOPPED HELPING AROUND THE SECT, but he didnt even BOTHER to tell jiang cheng about it

by the way did i mention this was done via an entirely unconsented experimental surgery

and now the brother of the doctor who did the unconsented experimental surgery is ?? mad at jiang cheng about it ???? like he was supposed to KNOW ABOUT THIS when wwx was KEEPING IT FROM HIM ON PURPOSE???

and now theyre all nearly dying in this dumbass temple - and the ONE family member jc still has is literally being threatened with a garotte

i'll be honest here i'm just reading jjk because this is a hostage situation at this point but why does everything feel so low stakes after all the build-up and tension, first for the shibuya arc and then for the culling game and especially the 'true purpose of the culling game' and then it's just like. btw gojo's out again. oh yeah we put him in a trench 8000km below sea level but he's ok dw. gojo sees megumi who is practically his son being possessed by sukuna and is like "huh. rip". when did they even get the back of the cube? and all the drama with reuniting the whole cast and they're just chilling in a hotel or wherever. what is even going on

Sometimes I wonder how Nanami's life would have been if he had found happiness. Like, if he was able to truly smile, if he found purpose away from the Jujutsu life, if he had a job that could make him thrive instead of sinking into depression and despair.

He was just so ready to throw his life away because nothing truly fulfilled him. He didn't deserve that. It's so unfair how he had a little taste of happiness when his found family embraced him and then immediately lost it all

I know jjk is basically "everyone will suffer, no one will have a happy ending", but I can't help it. At least, other characters had their moments of fulfillment before losing everything. Nobara finally ran away from the country, Yuji made wonderful friends, even Megumi was able to smile. Nanami didn't have any of that. All he left was hope, but he took nothing. He deserved better :(

i forgot to make a post about this but one of the reasons i believe megumi will be saved and come back, and how that will tie with a major moment in the story (either related to sukuna or the merger), is because of his name. or, to be more precise, because of his father and the legacy he chose to leave behind. toji's character has been the catalyst for almost everything in the current timeline of jjk. he was behind gojo's awakening, riko's death, geto's spiraling and defection which ultimately led to kenjaku's possession of geto's body, the lack of options to release gojo from the prison realm when he was imprisoned by kenjaku, he was the object of yuki's study to break free from the status quo, etc. quite literally, if we do have a plot, we have to thank toji for it. toji, who turned the world upside down and changed everyone's lives by breaking the chains of fate - literal symbolism used in regards to him and other concepts within the story like binding vows, specifically the one sukuna made with yuuji. toji, the one who linked the six eyes, the star plasma vessel and tengen (subsequently relating to the merger) by achieving a state of no cursed energy and reaching something akin to enlightment. such a bringer of chaos who was looked upon as the key to save the world by yuki, who knew there would have to be a change in the souls of the population of japan and cursed energy as a whole to finally break free from the cycle of suffering (breaking from the samsara and achievement of nirvana). now, how does that relate to megumi? the irony in the role toji plays within this story as someone who was born without power. the fact his influence caused nothing but destruction yet he birthed a blessing. what if megumi's name meaning blessing isn't just a coincidence or cute detail symbolising toji's love for his family but a sign for what's to come? what if the blessing yuki saw in toji's achievements as well actually translates to something more meaningful. more precisely, what if megumi is, quite literally, the embodiment of it?

based on your asks responses & characterization of yuuta this is what i’ve gathered — yuuta is like that one high school senior who looked at the new coming freshman’s & just adopted them on the spot. there’s no out. now his friends sees the kid & adopted them too. it’s a family now. a very young, close in age family. (i was yuuta in this situation 😔 i was use to be megumi in this situation but i carried the tradition out. as i should. high school & middle school was wild.)

YUUJI THOUGH. we will probably never see him in your sea glass garden au but your asks is killing me. like his one sided beef with yuuta? he’s just like me fr. i too would fight over megumi if it comes down to it.

i just know yuuji thought that yuuta & megumi was a thing at first cause of the whole “his boy thing”. i know he screamed into a pillow about it. i know he went to gojo to ask for permission to court megumi & gojo was flabbergasted at such a medieval act so he had yuuji do the dumbest shit to get his blessing (ha).

i just know nanami is sighing at the idea of his son yuuji being a jealous little brat because of his other son yuuta. i just know yuuta was so confused until he witnessed yuuji & megumi awkward ass flirting. i know he acts like a little shit to get on yuuji (& sukuna) nerves.

you know what. this is my jujutsu kaisen. this is my sorcery fight. gege who? i only know you. PLS TAKE THE PEN FROM GEGE.

Yuuta is absolutely that senior who adopted that new student and made a little family. That is His Kohai now okay megumi is their collectively raised flour sack baby and they will kill for him.

Yuuji came back to life finally met the second years had just leveled up with his cursed energy and gained a new dad got his old friends back he was so so ready to go live his best life and then his new self appointed brother opened his mouth and started rhapsodizing about some impossibly beautiful and perfect man named okkotsu yuuta and yuuji is absolutely whacked in the face a la rubber squeaky hammer that there’s some gorgeous son of a bitch out there already living his best life.

His death sentence was overturned. He’s so powerful that he can save everyone if he wants. He is the legally adopted child of Nanami Kento. The curse attached to him 1) actually liked him and 2) moved the fuck on which some people (Sukuna) could take a few notes on.

Fushiguro Megumi is his boy.

This could not have devastated him more thoroughly. Even his newly acquired self appointed brother thinks okkotsu yuuta is the perfect man, which he manages to express at length in between warnings from the second years that Yuuta’s going to fly back from Africa purely for the sake of kicking his fucking ass for touching His Boy, which yuuji simply cannot handle.

Yuuji lowkey had a new lease on life and thought “hey! Fushiguro tried to kill someone with an elephant for me! Maybe I have a shot and he’ll let me hold his hand!” and then there’s god’s perfect man off in Africa who’s enticing megumi away from movie marathons with his fucking FaceTime calls right when yuujis almost hyped himself up enough to try the yawning arm stretch thing.

He spends at least three weeks trying to figure out if Megumi’s His Boy because they’re in a long distance relationship and it only ends because maki starts finding it more annoying than funny and establishes that it is not in fact a romantic arrangement. She thinks. (Okay it’s still kind of funny.)
