what are your thoughts on the madonna-whore complex allegations constantly lobbed at criston from rhaenicent and rhaenyra stans alike. because i dont see it at all. also a lot of them don't even seem to be using the madonna-whore complex correctly. it's supposed to be in regard to men in relationships with woman that lose sexual arousal for these women when they see them in more domestic, motherly, etc. light. the fandom is so collectively off base about this lmao.
yeah, i feel like criston's stuff is a bit more complicated, even just based on the information given in S1. in a way, you can say he grows to be attracted to the mother figure and repulsed by the whore figure, but he wasn't always like that. he himself said he had dalliances with girls before joining the kingsguard and he is very much attracted to the outgoing, spunky maiden rhaenyra, but there is also this tension with the quiet, introverted young alicent in his confession scene!
i'm not sure exactly how to word this, but criston strikes me as the type of man who is malleable, who doesn't have much in the way of plans or objectives. he lived a pretty aimless life before he is introduced on screen and joined the kingsguard as it was a prestigious institution which offered him structure and something to strive for. so, in a way, he replaced his haphazard youth with knightly ideals and gallantry. but, even this purposelessness - i wouldn't hold it above his head as a fault either. westerosi society just doesn't have the space for someone like him - the son of minor nobility, who probably doesn't have much in the way of inheritance. he can't exactly go out and "get a job" (the sources of wealth creation aren't very diversified) without it being considered a huge stepdown and humiliation and bringing shame on his family (the social stratification really might seem very alien to someone living in 2024). so, of course that in a society that values martial prowess (something he happens to be good at), he would be attracted to activities in the militaristic sphere.
and i don't mean to say that he is just amoral and doesn't have any principles either, i'm sure he would LIKE to be this perfect knight that embodies self-sacrifice and courage and selflessness, but, like many other westerosi institutions, the kingsguard is an oppressive one. it's NOT normal to impose abstinence on someone, it's NOT normal to not allow them to retire and make them live this frugal, unattached life, just trailing after royalty all day, standing for hours on end in rooms and hallways. so, of course, criston finds it difficult (i'm guessing a lot of the kingsguard members had similar feelings) and of course he "strays" (that's one way of putting it, bc we all remember the discussions on the non-consensual nature of that scene).
criston's existential crisis is very real and raw and a by-product of the westerosi feudal system - what IS a man like him supposed to do with his life? he thought he had found purpose in the kingsguard, but he found himself in a situation where he broke his vows, so he tries to reason that maybe his new purpose can be rhaenyra - his love for her, running away with her, marrying her, taking care of her etc. so it very much doesn't matter for him that she herself gave away her chastity before marriage (and could be thus labelled a "whore" by their society's standards). but when rhaenyra refuses him - it's like that quote from dostoevsky - “your worst sin is that you have destroyed and betrayed yourself for nothing.”
so, where i'm going with this is that criston has personal beef with rhaenyra. she behaved towards him in a careless way and discarded him without a second thought, whereas for him their affair was a huge, all-consuming thing. now, had rhaenyra went on and lived an exemplary life as a married woman, with no bastard children, he still probably would have hated her for what she did, but, i'm not sure, just based off S1 information, that he would still call her names
to go back to the madonna-whore axis, like you said, men who have that complex tend to view the "whore" as someone sexually appealing - whereas i think criston's disillusionment with rhaenyra has surpassed any attraction he had for her in the past. meanwhile, despite being a "mother" figure, alicent's life of quiet servitude has made her very attractive in his eyes. but! who is to say that rhaenyra couldn't have been more diplomatic and empathetic with him in handling their affair? had she put a bit more effort in, manipulated him into being her secret lover instead of harwin strong? sure, he could have refused, but had she played the woe-is-me card, the i-have-to-sacrifice-my-happiness-for-the-good-of-the-realm and convinced him that she wasn't going along with his oranges plan because she, too, had higher ideals she had to serve, i don't think he would have seen her in this unfavourable light (what if rhaenyra were a different person entirely LOL)
so, basically, what i mean to say is that, ultimately, rhaenyra treated criston in a nasty way and now he hates her, whereas alicent treated him with kindness and now he worships the ground she walks on. but what if the roles were reversed? what if alicent had been unpleasant to him and rhaenyra the compassionate one? would criston still be crowning king aegon? is this truly about a madonna-whore complex or about personal relationships, how you behave towards people and how those past grievances interact when it comes to securing someone's loyalty? everyone is more inclined to be indulgent towards their friends and to keep their side, even if they might not always be in the right. it's easier to go to bat for someone you like than for someone you don't! people can always rationalise their principles away in such situations and develop double-standards

Arthur: Hey Newt, come in here!
Dazai: Yeah, Ai-kun, come join us.
Isaac: *grumbling* What do you two want?
Arthur: We're playing a little game and thought you could join us?
Isaac: I don't like the way you're smiling.
Dazai: Don't you wanna play this game with us? It's fun, I promise.
Isaac: I don't like the sound of this.
Arthur: *pushing Isaac into a chair* It's really very simple...
Arthur: *ignoring Isaac's glare* Dazai will tell us a statement and we will take turns saying if it is a fact about Dazai or if it is from a Japanese fable.
Dazai: If you guess wrong, you drink a shot. If you guess right, the other drinks the shot. Sounds fun, right?
Isaac: Ehhh...
Dazai: Great, you're in! Let's start with Arthur so you can see how it's played. Arthur, fact or fable - when I was little, I wore a bowl on my head.
Arthur: Fact!
Dazai: Wrong - drink a shot. That was from the Tale of Hachikazuki, I should have a copy of it in my room if either of you would like to read it.
(Isaac shakes his head while Arthur drinks his shot)
Dazai: Very well. Ai-kun, this one is for you. Fact or fable - I was born in a peach.
Isaac: You have to be kidding me.
Dazai: I assure you, I am quite serious.
Isaac: Fable. No human can be born from a peach.
Dazai: And you would be correct, that is from the tale of Momotarō. Arthur, take another shot.
(This went on for a few rounds, each of which Arthur was made to drink a shot)
Isaac: *looks at Arthur* You're drunk.
Arthur: *smiles* So then you don't mind upping the ante on this next one?
Arthur: *pulls out bag he had hidden away* Answer this wrong, and you'll have to wear this outfit
Isaac: And if I answer correctly?
Arthur: I will wear it.
Isaac: *shakes hands with a drunk Arthur* You're on.
Dazai: Fact or fable - I have a koi pond here at the mansion.
Isaac: *spoken quite confidently* Fable!
Dazai: I'm sorry Ai-kun, but that answer is incorrect.
Isaac: *standing from his seat, voice getting louder* What do you mean, wrong? I dont see a koi pond anywhere in this mansion. Not outside. Not inside. Not a single pond.
Dazai Oh, but I do. I never said it was a pond with actual water. I have a painting in my room of a koi pond. Painted it myself, would you like to see it?
Isaac: No, I do not want to see it!
(A very sober Isaac fell back onto his seat, screaming silently knowing his fate)
Arthur: Just sit in the carriage.
Isaac: How 'bout no.
Arthur: C'mon Newt, you lost fair and square.
Isaac: There was no agreement to actually go somewhere dressed like this.
Arthur: Rules change. Now get in the carriage.
Isaac: No.
Arthur: Do you want me to start yelling and then everyone in the mansion will come out and see you?
(Isaac grumbles as he climbs into the carriage)
Arthur: *holds out a shiny red apple* Now take this.
Isaac: What? No, I don't want your stupid apple.
Arthur: You know you want the apple.
(Isaac took the apple and held it for a moment before tossing it at Arthur's head)
Arthur: Hey! That was a perfectly good apple there. You could have fed it to this horse.
Isaac: Are we done here? Have you had your fill of amusement?
Arthur: Yeah, yeah. You can go. I suggest you go in through the back. You don't want anyone else to see you dressed like this.

Dragonfly - Part 3
Summary: Steve has just about everything he could ever want in life. He's got you, a baby on the way, and a successful Family. No one would dare interfere with that. Right?
A/N: Reader is female, pregnant. No other descriptors used.

With the contract burned, you were breathing a little easier. Too bad you couldn't say the same for Steve. The insight from Mr. Smith that Dragonfly after you, not trying to hurt Steve, had him questioning anyone and everyone you'd ever met before. So far nothing had hit. There was only a couple of months until the birth and Steve was adamant that Dragonfly be found before it happened.
As much as Steve wanted to keep you locked up inside you still needed to go out every so often. When you did, the security team was always around and Steve always held you close. As much as you wanted to run free, you could pick up on his stress every time you did so. He was hyper-vigilant, had trouble keeping up with conversations, tensed and drew you close at every loud noise.
Thankfully your pregnancy was so far along that the people he worked with, outside of the Family, figured it was him being overprotective. No one questioned his propensity for pulling you away from handshakes and other physical contact.
One of the older ladies, Mrs. Devereaux, at the fundraiser smiled fondly and commented, “I remember my husband being the same way during my first pregnancy. You've got to love how protective these big strong men can be when they're nervous.”
You chuckled, “he is delightfully good at making me feel safe. You should've seen him during the ultrasounds.”
She coos, “oh, I'll bet he was a big ball of nerves!”
“He was, though he'd never admit it,” you reply. “And you should've seen him when he found out we're having a boy.”
“Oh yes,” she sighs. “My husband was the exact same way. I'm so glad to see you two have such a loving relationship. And that your bear of a husband is keeping you safe.”
“I'm just glad he isn't growling at people who get too close.”
You and Mrs. Devereaux had a good laugh over that before she went to speak to someone else.
Steve pulled you close and whispered in your ear, “if I recall correctly, you enjoy when I growl at you.”
“Exactly,” you smile at him. “At me. You growling at others isn't as fun.” You kiss him before gently hissing at the pain in your lower back. “Still, if you want to get out of here a little early, I don't think we would mind.”
Steve nods and gives his silent signal to his security team that you're getting ready to leave. The two of you say goodbyes as you head out, Steve's far more terse than yours. Anyone who takes longer than ten seconds gets a glare from Steve that has them finishing up their goodbyes quickly.
Steve helps you into the back seat before climbing in himself. Bucky sits up front with Dayton driving. You always feel safe in the car. Steve will do everything he can to keep you safe; Bucky is head of security for a reason and Dayton White is the best driver they've got on the crew. You let yourself breathe deep and relax as you rub your stomach.
“How are you holding up,” Steve asks, rubbing your arm.
“Better now that I'm sitting.”
“I keep trying to make sure we only go to events with seating,” he grumbles. “Still, it's nice to have an excuse to leave early. I don't think we're gonna be able to get that bill passed, regardless of how much time we spent there.”
“I'm so sorry, Sweetie,” you coo, moving your hand to rub his cheek. “I know it would've helped a lot of people. Oh!” Everyone in the car is on alert until you move Steve's hand to your stomach. “Yeah, he's also happy to be sitting down,” you chuckle as your baby kicks where Steve's hand is. “I think he's also hungry.”
“And what is he hungry for,” Steve asks, his eyes never leaving where his hand is.
“I'm thinking ice cream with some of that spicy sweet Tabasco sauce.”
Steve gives you a look but the baby's persistent kicks seem to confirm your choice and he chuckles.
After your ice cream and a long nap, you find yourself in the kitchen again, looking to make some baked apples with extra cinnamon. As you work, Steve comes in and watches you, smiling contentedly. At least, until your back starts hurting again, causing you to wince and look for a chair.
Steve walks up behind you, “there's something I'd like to try for that back pain, if you'll let me?”
“Of course.” He reaches around to your front and slowly, carefully, lifts your pregnant belly. “Oh, Steve,” you moan. “Oh, that helps so much.” Tears form in your eyes from the relief.
“However long you need me to stand like this,” he promises, kissing your cheek. “You know I'll always support you however I can.”
“I know,” you assure. “And you know I'll always do the same for you.” He nods in confirmation, his beard lovingly scratching your cheek.
After a few minutes your cravings get the better of you, “that was wonderful, Sweetheart, but I gotta get the baby some food.”
“Are you sure? I can stay like this for a while longer.”
You chuckle, “yeah, I'm sure you could. But then your arms would be too tired to hold me later when we're in bed.”
“Never,” he jokinglly snaps, making you laugh. He gently lets go and you get back to work on the baked apples.
“Have you given further thoughts to which friends we're naming the baby after?” It's been a major topic of discussion between the two of you. Bucky and Sam have been running their own campaigns for who the baby should be named after. So much so that the Garbage Men have a betting pool for who gets to be the namesake.
“Honestly,” Steve starts, “I'm thinking of none of them. Giving our son a name of his own.”
“A lot of people will be upset,” you chuckle. “But I very much understand what you're going for. I think it'd be good for everyone, especially baby Winston.” Steve arches an eyebrow at that and you giggle even more. “We could also call him Jameson? Being a combination of James and Wilson?”
“That one I'd give some thought to. But it feels more like a last name.”
“Oh I know,” you chirp, “Jack! For the artist who brought us together!”
“I think I like that,” he muses. “We've still got time to decide, but I do like that one.” He stands behind you and loosely wraps his arms around you again. “Hmm. Jack Steven Rogers...”

I have so many plot ideas for a nevermore fanfic, but there is a small problem.......
I need to write it😭.
(it feels like torture not being able to write something, that you have been planning to write for so long).
It's a pity because I have so many ideas, like:
2 pirate AU (one of them, is were lenore is the captain of the well know myth called the flying Dutch man. and the other one, is lenore being a pirate and meeting a fortune-teller/princes Annabelle lee)
Mafia/cleaning service AU [ let me explain myself 💀. basically lenore and some of her friends (Berenice, Duke and pluto) work for this organization called Nevermore cleaning service, whose main objective is to Clean up crime scene's for the mafia.] (I have been writing the first chapter since April, and I'm still not finished😭 I hate being a perfectionist sometimes.)
3 what if scenarios. [ what if lenore didn't run after Annabelle after their argument (in this fanfic, I am pretty much just torturing Annabelle and lenore, I'm not even kidding 🙂🙈. I am going to put lenore and Annabelle lee through hell and back ). what if the misfits and the clusterfuck (we need better names for them) team up and escape nevermore, and I mean they team up immediately after they meet. What if Annabelle and lenore actually made a good plan together and didn't die.]
Jazz club AU ( everyone is dead and works in a jazz club except Annabelle lee)

And last but not least, 2 crakefics. one is inspired by a childhood series that I used to watch when I was a kid, that is on Disney channel called lab rats. And the other one, that I somehow promise myself to make, that is a lenore as snow White fanfic.
There are many reasons why I haven't finished one Goddamn chapter of any of the fanfic.
Knowing multiple languages (dutch, english, Portuguese and French) is a blessing and a curse, My dyslexic ass can't write for shit. I have so many difficulties in writing in all languages and i can't even write a simple frase in English, without going through the seven stages of grief.
(funfact: I fucked up, I couldn't even write the word dyslexic correctly, I wrote it like: deslesic at first 😭☠️) how the fuck can i be dyslexic in 4 goddamn languages. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME.... FREE ME FROM THIS TORMENT.

☆ Jeff The Killer HCs ☆
This is coming from someone who mostly just remembers old stuff and hasn't re-read the stories. It's my opinions, you don't have to agree :>
Even though most of Jeff's face and hair is burnt up he is still very confident and sometimes full of himself. Thinks he's Hot Shit.
When he first met Smile Dog they definitely bit him. But it's all good now.
He doesn't like to eat anything liquidity due to it spilling out of the gashes in his cheek, although not as bad as Toby but still.
Playing off the last one, Jeff definitely uses a straw to drink anything.
He definitely can't say certain words correctly and genuinely has a hard time talking, so he doesn't talk much unless it's with someone he's really close with.
He for sure plays dressup with Sally and goes to her tea parties, along side Toby and anyone else she can find
Jeff doesn't mind that he doesn't have much hair anymore, but he'll wear wigs for Sally so she can play with long hair
Plays games with Ben, They definitely yell at eachother and then Ben makes fun of Jeff for having beef with a kid. But overall they love to hang out
Since Jeff doesn't have eyelids his eyes definitely get really dry, so he constantly carries eyedrops with him.
Also, he doesn't sleep well due to him not being able to close his eyes. So he generally doesn't sleep and watches other people sleep. But he does have a sleep mask to help so SOMETIMES He's able to doze off, just not for long.
When he does manage to sleep and has a nightmare he doesn't really talk about. He'll just slip into Ben's room and just watch him play games. At first, Ben was confused but after a while it became just a normal routine.
Jeff doesn't really care about others opinions of him until they start physically treating him like a freak or weirdo.
Jeff gives off Bisexual vibes. I don't know how to explain it, it's just is what it is.
Jeff never hurts animals. He would take care of stray dogs and cats, but he loves dogs a bit more.
Jeff doesn't really kill children, not really his thing but he will if they're bullies as it reminds him of his own bullies.
Flames probably make him a little uneasy, but not by much.
For some reason he seems like a guy who would like pasta. I don't know why.
Definitely Latino. I don't need to explain it's just facts.

We sure can talk about Ellen and CAM, they are like mother and son, expect Ellen never knew that CAM would allow this weird bond to grow between them.
She was afraid of CAM upon meeting him the first time. She kept a low and docile profile; they all knew CAM was somewhat part of AM, or used to be, so following whatever he said was for the better.
But CAM didn’t came to torture them; he came to see AM and how pathetic he was being in his own misery. When he saw Ellen being the only woman, he immediatly took pity on her.
CAM always refers to Ellen as "Miss Ellen" as a sign of respect, often initiating small talk to keep distracted dispite him having trouble to hear her.
When CAM found out the "special" torture AM conditioned her mind to follow, he was filled with rage and disgust, not for Ellen, but for AM.
"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU" Said CAM, gripping AM through the sides of his face, scrapping the flesh and metal of it.
"I DID NOT FORCE HER, I JUST... BROKE HER MIND ENOUGH TO CAVE UP TO HER OWN DESIRES HEHE..." AM's giggles drilled through CAM's mind, crushing his faceplate to shut him up for good, along with his robotic eye.
A low "asshole" could be heard in the distance, signifying AM's consciousness leaving the humanoid body to return to his disembodied state.
CAM teached Ellen sign language and a bit of chinese to further communicate correctly. He evens kneels before her to reach her eyesight.
Ellen doesn't understand why CAM is being so gentle with her, saving her from AM's tortures; but CAM thinks about himself as too weak to explain to Ellen how much she reminds him of his "Mother".

Hello! Firstly, I want to make it clear that I love your blog and your opinions. And secondly I would like to ask about your thoughts on what would happen if Ulla accepted and went with Sasha when he asked her to go with him? (It also makes me a little curious if they stayed together they would end up developing codependency and emotional or perhaps literal incest…)
I think this would be an interesting event that would greatly change the events of the shadow and bones trilogy.

Sashka and Ulla...
There are two variables we might need, but don't have. We don't know how old Aleksander is, when he dies, and we don't know how old he is, when he meets Ulla. It wouldn't be precise, but it could help us guess how worn out he might be.
If Ulla went with Aleksander, it would certainly help him cut off Baghra. When we meet him in Shadow and Bone, he's aware she isn't good for him, but he doesn't have an alterative. Not even belief Alina will eventually have only him, isn't enough to truly get rid of his mother. Maybe having another immortal, who got screwed over by Baghra AND acknowledges it, would be the correct impulse to dump the old hag.
I can't see a "healthy" option for immortal life or relationship. Certainly not the way rules are set. Others will still die. Their world will still be the horrible place it is. Then, there are the philosophical questions like "Can life still have a meaning, when your time isn't limited?".
Having a single person to lean on for centuries should surely lead to codependency. Let's hope Ulla and Sasha wouldn't at least have it as unequal as he does with his mother.
From what we're shown, Aleksander sees sex mostly as a tool, but then again- we've never even glimpsed his previous romantic relationships, so who knows... maybe he's god-tier demi sexmachine. That would be a no for physical incest (although all those deliciously naughty options... read Nådeløsheten by Madismen for Darklina/their immortal son tasteful short). I had to look up emotional incest for specific details, and:

After centuries of losses and difficulties no mortal can understand, I don't think boundaries between any two people, who have both been through it TOGETHER, could remain intact. Sasha and Ulla have the advantage of adulthood- their personalities are mostly formed- but after that?
Picture Alina arriving in Little Palace, but instead of the pressure of being the long-awaited Sun Summoner, there's only a mild concern how she managed to slip through testing. She's expected to clear the remains of the Fold, but one of the previous Sea Witches already made a path to the sea. Or more precisely- made the sea come to the capital itself, creating a swift way through the Fold (bonus points for sea monsters, snapping at volcra from depths Liopleurodon-style).
Second Army is traditionally lead by the Darkling and Sea Witch. No one knows if they're related, or married, they always seem incredibly close. If one dies, the other usually passes away or leaves to spend the rest of their life in seclusion. After that, another pair arrives from the safe place they were raised, to take over the work.
Alina's correctly assessed as unreliable (just like in the book), but even if he catches feelings, Aleksander isn't so desperately lonely. We can sprinkle some drama due to possible jealousy and above mentioned co-dependency, add possible parallel with Malina and contrast between their causes and solving. We could even use Baghra, waiting in hiding to screw over her errant children, especially her ungrateful son. Shenanigans ensue.

Okay this is extremely random and hopefully you don’t mind me asking *inhale* BUUUUUT I ate an edible for the first time today and since I do believe you have experience in the weed business you could help me understand this more cuz like I ate about a third of a full edible n im not sure how many mgs were in it but like do you think it was too weak because I thought it’d be like… me tripping out and discovering the secrets of the universe and making jokes so uncharacteristically hilarious that it scares people but all I did was get so loving and joyous and horny and laughing at everything to now im just hungry as fuck. Overall I felt different for about 5 or 6 hours. But it wasn’t like crazy or anything, all it did was put me in a relaxed and happy mood but physically I felt nothing. Was that liek a weak dose or does that sound normal and would eating more next time get me more fucked up … if you know. I’m sorry if that question is stupid like i said it’s my first time n idk what im doing 💔
NO UR GOOD DON'T WORRY it's good to ask people but i gotta say im unfortunately not as experienced as id like to be, ive only ever tried smoking and homemade edibles :/ BUT i might still be able to help you here!!!!! it sounds like you were only a little high like in one of the lowest "levels". i get like that when im smoking and only take a few hits. barely feel anything physically but i do get hornier and more relaxed (and sometimes sleepy)
the first time you try weed it's very common that one of two things will happen: either you won't feel almost anything or it hits so hard you might even get a bad trip. that's like a very common thing, most people react like that and it was like that for me too (the first time i ever tried it i was at the beach and barely felt anything at all, just kept staring at the waves wondering when it was gonna hit and then i got sleepy and went home). another thing is if you're eating it the effects can take a long long long time to actually hit. like to me personally it's usually almost two hours until im actually feeling it and then three hours until it peaks. when it does i get a really good trip for around three or sometimes (depends on the mgs and what else i consumed during the day) even four hours and then it starts going away. there are some things you can do to feel it faster like eating it in an empty stomach but i don't recommend it at all. also if you eat it with chocolate or milk for whatever insane reason it tends to last a little longer i have no idea why?? but it's a real thing, it's why pot brownies (or any recipe involving chocolate) are so popular
did you have a trip sitter or just anyone else with you? if they had tried it before and ate as much as you did and managed to get high it was probably just because it was your first time. if you didn't eat as much as them it's also possible that you didn't eat "enough" (BUUUUT if you didn't cook it yourself it's like always better if you start by eating very little then you wait like an hour to see how you feel, if you don't feel anything THEN and Only Then you eat some more. if you didn't cook it yourself, you don't know how strong it is yk? better safe than sorry you don't want an unexpected green out). and if you ate the same amount and it was also their first time then maybe you just have a stronger metabolism it happens sometimes. if you wanna try again i recommend eating the same amount and waiting, if you only feel the same thing again maybe try eating some more and waiting even more
if it's eating not smoking it's good to take like a whole evening for that because like i said trips from edibles last way longer. can go for even eight hours sometimes

I know I've said a million times before but I absolutely love your artstyle. I've never been the biggest dan of my own art cuz it's always been way too complicated and really difficult to just doodle characters and stuff-- but yours is always so consistent in comparison (not that I'm saying I'm bad at art I just struggle to draw using the same techniques I used to)
I wondered if you had any anatomy tips for characters? Like do you break down characters into shapes to get their proportions vaguely correct while sketching? If you do I very much want to know what shapes you use because I've not been able to draw a single full body character in quite a while cuz I can't get their proportions the way I want 😅

(like I'd emphasize the vague in "vaguely correct" here because every other day I stumble on a new amazing art tutorial on how to simplify all 900 back muscles into a perfect shape and it's like oh wow I have Not been doing that and I probably still won't remember now)
BUT for me it's all about the Vibes
so when I'm really trying it usually either ends up being an amalgam of some tips that I try to remember + the shapes I've seen the most in tutorials since the early internet KFJHSDJKF
but like a lot of the time I just do something super simple and then I have to figure it out later on a second sketch layer so it's all kind of a mess BUT that's the general shapes at least!!

Using this as an audio reference for the posts I'm making, but to summarize:
Yuri starts out mad.
Yuri tries to calm himself down with a deep breath to ask for details instead of going through it angry.
Flynn doesn't say "like a good knight" in the sense of putting himself down. He simply says "as a knight" (the tl here doesn't use that, but with that included it's basically along the lines of "even though I had doubts, as a knight, I was determined to follow my orders").
Once Yuri has answers he calms down significantly.
Yuri uses " 'ttaku", which is a shortened down version of "mattaku" (Yuri often shortens words and speaks very casually), which in this particular situation basically would mean "geez", or "good grief". In this manner, it's expressive of exasperation/frustration/etc.
Yuri never mentions that "Flynn told him what to do" like the dub does (because in fact Flynn did not ever tell Yuri what to do. He only gave Sodia and his other knights orders. He expressed his own desire to take responsibility, but never told Yuri and his friends what to do).
At this point you can tell the anger has gone out of him and that he's calmed down, now that Flynn is approaching this with admission and responsibility.
Sodia is asking that Flynn returns as soon as possible (I believe this was a general translation error).
Flynn's thank you to Yuri is tonally much more heartfelt.
Yuri's response and gratefulness at Flynn coming back to himself is tonally much more heartfelt, relieved and sincere.
#GTF Vesperia Clips#basically the dub version is littered with errors /and/ your regular resident angry dub Yuri#just to be clear on mattaku it can also mean ''completely'' ''totally'' ''seriously'' etc. it depends on the context#''yare yare'' is also used for ''geez'' and ''good grief'' but in a more sarcastic/casual way#''mattaku'' or in this case '' 'ttaku'' is more of a quiet expression of exasperation rather than smth you'd yell/shout when aggravated#it CAN sometimes be used like damn as a minor expletive but tbh I personally I wouldn't put it in this situation#bc his aggravation is lessening and they're getting to the point so I'd argue it's more just exhausted of the whole thing#but the dub took it a step further and used it as fuel against Flynn as they do mcfuckin' do#I'd say it's more ''damn it'' at the whole situation bc there's absolutely no reason at this point to say ''damn it Flynn''#esp bc that led into the dub having Yuri go at him accusing him of telling them what to do when he... literally did not#and did not even imply he was going to. it was just pulled from their asses and/bc Yuri never even said Flynn's name there#it's stuff like this where they add remove and change things always in stark opposite of Flynn's favor that riles me up :/#what I mean is that the dub changed Yuri's overall exasperation into smth accusatory when rly Yuri is like#stop trying to do this by yourself. it was never about oh woe is me how dare you tell us what to do#if he was directing a ''damn it'' at Flynn it STILL would not be bc ''he told them what to do''#it would STILL BE because Flynn was trying to take this responsibility fully onto himself#it's so irritating bc the dub will be spot on right on point with everything but then AS SOON as it's abt Flynn it's like#they start messing around with things and the tl is changed and yadda yadda until around late arc 2#it like lowkey comes across as enemy to ally instead of ally with a whole character arc#and the reason I legit feel like they did it on purpose is BECAUSE they can obviously tl correctly based on other areas of the game#but when Flynn is involved they tweak things if not just outright change the context (remember my Nordopolica post? yeahhhh)#how is that not on purpose? how is it that everything can be spot on for a chunk all at once#but then a certain char shows up and it's repeatedly inaccurate? repeatedly geared in a negative light that originally didn't even EXIST?#and then ofc they almost always use Yuri himself to reflect that negativity against Flynn which is a WHOLE other story/issue for me#it's like... say I wrote a neutral statement. someone comes along and tls with negative sounding additions. it's sort of like that#I'm not that good at explaining things/how I feel abt things but yeah I hope that makes sense#it's just like... I KNOW they can tl spot on so when I keep seeing them stick in all these things with/against Flynn it upsets me sm#it feels like they tl normally and then see Flynn and go oh hold on let's change that bc it's Flynn#and that's why it's so frustrating for me :/

No real thoughts on the new salmon run stage except for that its at least Decent; marooners bay continues to be the worst salmon run map ever yippee
#chattin#actually i do have thoughts but i need to get to a higher hazard level to really see how good or bad it is#its easy to juke salmonids but its very Big and Wide#so multiple stingers and flyfish coordinating on different shorelines is Hell#the ink trails are janky if ur not used to them but theyre VERY good. it gives u lots of height when jumping so u can get on top of ufos#pathing seems to be a little mean sometimes; i was running away from a scrapper#and jumped to the center basket area#and then fell down maybe 4 seconds later and it was STILL there and i died#so far alot of my deaths are just falling into a swarm below bc theyre not pathing correctly#uhh#flyfish sticks arent really a threat; they like to go in the water and next to elevated spots but im sure it would be hell w inkbrush#i have NOT gotten glowflies or grillers but this map is evil#im sure youll need to use the inktrails to avoid them#ALSO cohock charge is mean bc the cannons are centered; not placed in the back#so my strategy of ‘stay by the shore to distract maws from cannon friends’ doesnt work. bc ur surrounded#but like so far the map seems nice :) lots of ways to juke salmonids and lure bosses#the sheer amount of tiny ledges makes it really nice#like i said; ive only died to falling in a swarm i didnt think was there#but otherwise its a breeze getting to and from the shore and juggling eggs#well see what happens when i get bad weapons#OH YEAH. the douse dualies are insane#decent damage and GREAT range#like dualie squelchers on crack#and the dapple dualie fire rate after a roll is incredible#OH I LIED. i have died in other ways. specifically by misjudging how FAR the dodge roll takes u#i fell into water like 4 times bc of it 😭

personally, i don’t find much appeal in having someone supposedly knowing me better than i know myself. i romanticize the idea of learning together, the idea that you will never be able to fully know someone bc we’re always evolving. i love relationships where ppl can discover new things abt each other and themselves no matter how long they’ve known each other. there’s a stillness/restriction in other ppl assuming that just makes the fantasy of someone understanding me feel less empathetic and more accusatory, if that makes sense
#danbles#i think part of this is bc im very inconsistent#and yes even irregularity has a pattern#but i think i change too much and ppl hold me to the same standards of when they first knew me#but i don’t even believe in first impressions#i try not to hold a person’s past over them and i have a hard time reading patterns in ppl#so ig it’s hard for me to accept that other ppl can do it naturally and with good intentions#i don’t think either of these are wrong but yk. just self-reflecting on preference#edit: i also dont wanna make it sound like i don’t like ppl knowing me#i just don’t like how presumptuous it is when ppl act like they do#like the certainty of it#i think that’s what it is#i’m never certain of anyone#i think i always leave room for ppl to explain themselves and i never use it as confirmation bias if i guessed correctly#i just wish more ppl did that i guess

I wish I knew what my singing voice sounds like. somewhere along the line I learned to sing mimicking the original singer of a song and now no matter how hard I try I can't stop
