Why do you think John seems to get the least respect from everyone out of all the siblings? The NPCs seem to insult him the most and I think you've mentioned on here before how differently his death is treated compared to Jacob's or Faith's. Is it because people aren't that scared of him? Like sure what he does to people is fucked up but not nearly as much as what Jacob does to people or Faith turning some people into mindless creatures. So I would assume that lack of fear plays a big part in why John is treated so differently but I would love to hear your thoughts on it.
I believe people are less afraid of him, yes. What the Heralds do is brutal, but John is “just” violent when Faith and Jacob brainwash people and strip them of their free will until they’re not themselves anymore. Faith can also create hallucinations and magically appear from nowhere. In comparison, the Baptist doesn’t seem that scary.
Interestingly, Resistance members and civilians tend to humanize John more too. They occasionally call him a monster but that term is used more often to describe Jacob, and people don’t hesitate to call Faith a demon. Actually, because of the fandom’s reactions to the Seeds and popular theories about Faith, I expected a few NPCs to feel a little sorry for her or at least wonder how responsible she really was for her actions… but only one person does! Similarly, even though each Herald is mentioned hundreds of times, only one NPC says that Jacob probably feels misunderstood and that someone should just “talk to him”.
You might say it makes sense because non-cultists understandably hate them, so why would they care about the Seeds’ feelings? That’s what I thought too but, much to my surprise, several people make comments about John being stressed, and some even question the healthiness of his relationship with Joseph. They don’t say the Father must be ashamed of Jacob, for example, or that he doesn’t trust Faith, or that they have a “fucked-up sibling relationship”, but they say such things about John. Someone also wonders what happened to him that made him so “evil”, and another person goes as far as saying that his scars run so deep he probably “wants to die”. Most NPCs don’t feel sorry for him, of course, because they think seeing him suffer is funny, but my point is that they (or, I guess, the writers) still clearly humanize him more than the other two Heralds, and that’s something I wasn’t expecting.
So I think people disrespect John more because they see him as a human, know he has feelings, and don’t think he’s as dangerous as his siblings. The Baptist is described by NPCs as “super emotional” and “the baby” of the family when they say Jacob is an emotionless, cruel monster and, because of how powerful she is, wonder if Faith is even real or a supernatural entity. They’re more afraid of them and what they’re capable of, but John is “just a man”, to quote Jerome.

Every time I see a post that’s like “hey don’t do this behavior! It’s rude, and even quite toxic” there’s like 12 replies or tags that are like “um only NARICSSISTS do this, to MANIPULATE us 😡” and it’s like… first of all no?? Anyone’s capable of shitty behavior, stop arm-chair diagnosing anyone you don’t like with a real personality disorder people deal with. Second of all I promise you that not every single narcissist is some evil villain out to get you, and most are literally just?? Normal people?! Leading normal lives.

I’ve got this jjk au where gojo ended up with mimiko and nanako but doesn’t defect & geto ends up with megumi (and tsumiki but I’ll get into that later) but still defects
gojo does full girl dad and raises the twins because he wants to give them the childhood that was taken away from them but they both end up becoming jujutsu sorcers anyway (but they end up in nobara & yuji’s year because *looks at smudged ink on hand* plot reasons)
but geto takes care of megs and t except that because of him tsumiki gets put under the coma curse way earlier (like a year into being under geto’s care) and this wasn’t on purpose on geto’s part but also he could have done a little more right to protect this kid so he’s sorta just stuck with megumi but because the two don’t have the same connection that the twins and geto did in canon, they don’t really care about each other and are more trying to make the best out of a bad situation. Megumi reminds geto too much of toji and megumi doesn’t actually have anyone anymore because tsumiki’s basically gone.
But Because of geto’s powers being so similar to megumi’s, megumi’s training progresses waay faster than in canon & is able to master a majority of his shikigami the jjk movie goes down the same way Except now, megumi’s pretty op but doesn’t have much allegiance to geto (now kenjaku) & when kenjaku pulls up and is like hey wanna help out with this end the world thingy megs is just kinda like “no I’m good” & when he meets itadori and itadori’s like no we don’t have to kill non-sorcerers?? Megumi becomes like a very uninspired ally
and he would have joined jujustu high but when he asked if they could wake tsumiki up & they couldn’t he kinda just say fuck it I’ll just leave then but anyways the rest of the au is just the main trying to befriend megumi
also he’s like a triple threat to gojo because bam he reminds you of the guy that killed you and also his son that you failed because toji asked you to do something about it but the other person you failed royally fucked this kid up so he’s a constant reminder of literally all of gojo’s failures nicely wrapped into one fucked up kid who’s never really known what it means to be loved by a family or have any normal friends
At the end of the day though gojo can’t change the past and had to accept that the best he can do now is support him but also teach him a bit of empathy because that wasn’t really geto “i killed my parents” suguru’s priority with megumi
also megumi wears traditional japanese garb like geto but covers his lower face because geto didn’t like seeing him (he didn’t tell megumi to do this, meg just did it himself to avoid as much conflict as possible) and he has long hair with no bangs that he usually keeps in a braid because geto enjoyed taking care of meg’s hair and given that that was kinda meg’s only soft connection w/ geto he unintentionally leans into it
I think the difficult (read: fun) part of this au is that geto isn’t like actively a worse person than he is in canon and any abuse he inflicts on megumi isn’t malicious or on purpose, he’s just a super emotionally unavailable highly unstable racist cult leader, but also his actions still have consequences so megumi’s got this fun little eldest daughter syndrome type thing going on you know?

I feel like maybe in CRK the Witches are a bit too removed from the world and lore of the game. That’s not to say they’re completely absent, we know they’re worshipped as the Cookies’ creator, not to mention there’s a whole religion/cult (I’m not sure how much of it is one or the other) surrounding them, as well as the Common trio having met and escaped from a Witch, it’s just that the Cookies’ creation, as well as their initial interactions and relationship to the Witches feels so far removed from the current day setting
Like, maybe they could have had it so that the Ancient Heroes were from the time of the Witches? Like they have in fact interacted with Witches beforehand and were baked at a time when they were still a very looming presence and threat?
I mean sure you’d have to change a lot about White Lily’s/Dark Enchantress’ backstory and motivation, considering that in this scenario all the Ancients know what the deal is with the Witches and why they were baked, but still, maybe it would have been better?
Well maybe not better, I’m no game writer, but at least adhered more to how the series started with Cookies escaping from the Witch and her oven by having important characters who in this universe lived through that time period?

curious - why do you cover your nipples in your pics?
Because it was required by tumblr for nearly the last 5 years and, frankly, I’m not willing to risk my blog being deleted for the sake of my followers seeing my nipples.
My writing is what is important to me, and I will always prioritize its home on my blog.
Nudes and sexually explicit content is on twitter.
