Thanksgiving Preparations
Pairing: Miranda Priestly x Fem! Reader
Summary: You are Miranda's wife, and it's your first Thanksgiving as a married couple. As the two of you navigate, the chaos of holiday preparations with Miranda's twin daughters, laughter, love, and playful banter ensue. Showcasing the beauty of unexpected connections and the joy found in the simplest moments.
Word count: 1,496
Authors Note: Turns out... I'm a sucker for holiday romances. I started out writing Christmas oneshots and imagines... but as I went to post one, I quickly realized it's too early for that. So, to fill my nagging itch for posting a holiday story... I decidedly set my mind on writing for Thanksgiving! So enough of my blabbing, I hope you enjoy! Happy reading! ♡
Tumblr media
You stand side by side with Miranda Priestly in the spacious kitchen of your shared townhouse, the warm aroma of Thanksgiving filling the air. The gentle hum of laughter echoes as you and Miranda prepare a feast for the special day. Miranda, elegant as always, expertly handles the turkey while you focus on the side dishes.
As the two of you work in tandem, Miranda glances at you with a soft smile. "You know, darling, I never thought I'd find such joy in preparing a meal. Especially with you."
The twins, Caroline and Cassidy, burst into the kitchen, their excitement palpable. "Mom! Mama! Can we help?" they chorus, eyes sparkling.
You look at Miranda, who nods with a bemused smile. "Of course, my darlings. Your mama and I could use some skilled assistants."
The mention of "mama" and "mom" is a sweet reminder of the unique family dynamic you've all created. The girls, and now Miranda, referring to you as "mama," have seamlessly woven you into their lives. It's a title that carries love and acceptance, surpassing any conventional labels.
Caroline, always the more adventurous of the two, eagerly grabs a mixing bowl. "I call dibs on making mashed potatoes!"
Cassidy, with a mischievous twinkle in her eye, reaches for the cranberries. "And I'll handle these. Watch out, world, Cassidy Priestly is a cranberry master!"
You share a knowing look with Miranda, appreciating the liveliness the twins bring to the kitchen. The banter flows seamlessly, filled with laughter and playful teasing. Miranda, usually composed, even allows herself to be the target of a well-placed joke.
"Mom, remember that time you tried to make stuffing and forgot the stuffing part?" Cassidy grins, stirring the cranberries.
Miranda raises an eyebrow, a rare amused expression on her face. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
Caroline chimes in, "Oh, come on, Mom. The infamous 'bread casserole' incident? Classic."
You join the teasing, "Well, Miranda, I'm just glad you have me to save you from any future culinary mishaps."
Miranda smirks, a glint of mischief in her eyes. "Indeed, I am truly fortunate."
Seeing the twins eager to help, you pause the bustling kitchen activity. "Alright, my little chefs, let's make sure we don't ruin those lovely outfits of yours." With a gentle smile, you reach for two aprons, each adorned with playful patterns.
Caroline and Cassidy giggle as you slip the aprons over their heads. "Now, my culinary wonders, you're officially ready for action."
The girls exchange excited glances, apron strings trailing behind them like little tails. They return to their tasks with renewed enthusiasm, focused on creating their culinary masterpieces.
Turning your attention to Miranda, you approach her with an apron in hand. "Even the queen of fashion needs a touch of practicality in the kitchen," you jest, a playful glint in your eyes.
As you position the apron over Miranda's head, she turns to face you, an eyebrow raised in amusement. Before she can say anything, you lean in, capturing her lips in a soft and tender kiss. The warmth of the moment lingers as you break the kiss, both of you sharing a knowing smile.
Miranda smirks, "I wasn't aware apron application involved such a delightful distraction."
You playfully respond, "Consider it my secret technique. Now, let me just tie this securely." Your hands deftly work to fasten the apron strings, the closeness between you and Miranda adding an extra layer of intimacy to the festive atmosphere.
With the apron securely tied, you give Miranda a gentle pat on the back. "There you go, ready to conquer the culinary world."
Miranda smirks again, a rare twinkle of playfulness in her eyes. "With you by my side, I believe I can handle anything, even in the kitchen."
With the heavenly aroma of the Thanksgiving feast now wafting from the oven, the twins, Caroline and Cassidy, abandon their kitchen duties with a burst of giggles. Aprons discarded on the floor like little breadcrumbs, they scamper off to enjoy their playtime.
Seizing the opportunity for a moment of tranquility, you and Miranda find yourselves alone in the kitchen, still clad in aprons. The air is filled with a quiet anticipation as the oven does its work.
Miranda turns to you, a soft smile playing on her lips. "Alone at last."
You share a knowing glance, and with a gentle touch, Miranda pulls you closer. The warmth of the aprons contrasts with the cool grace of the kitchen surroundings as you share a tender kiss.
As you hold each other, Miranda murmurs, "I am thankful for moments like these, away from the chaos, just you and me."
You reciprocate, "I feel the same, Miranda. Grateful for the life we're building together, especially moments like this."
The quietude of the kitchen allows for whispered confessions, and you take turns expressing your gratitude. Miranda's eyes soften as she admits, "I never thought I'd have a family like this. Your love has brought something extraordinary into my life."
You respond with heartfelt sincerity, "And I'm thankful for the laughter, the warmth, and the love we share. It's more than I could have ever dreamed."
The sound of muffled laughter from the twins playing in the next room adds a joyful background melody to your intimate moment. Miranda's fingers trace circles on the fabric of your apron as she leans in to whisper, "They truly adore you, you know. It's evident in every 'mama' they say."
You smile, the warmth of her words settling in your heart. "And I adore them. I never knew family could feel like this."
Miranda tilts her head, her eyes reflecting a mixture of gratitude and affection. "Nor did I. You've brought a kind of love into our lives that I didn't think possible."
As the timer on the oven ticks away, the two of you linger in the kitchen, enjoying the rare solitude. The scent of the roasting turkey and the simmering side dishes becomes a backdrop to your whispered conversation.
"I'm thankful for you, Miranda, for the unexpected joy you've given me," you confess, your voice carrying the weight of sincere appreciation.
Miranda's gaze softens, and she responds, "And I, in turn, am thankful for your unwavering support, for the love that has made my world richer than I could have imagined."
The twins' laughter grows louder, a testament to the happiness that fills the home you've created together. Miranda places a gentle kiss on your forehead, a silent acknowledgment of the bond that transcends titles and roles.
As the oven continues to work its magic, you and Miranda stand in the kitchen, wrapped in each other's arms and aprons, grateful for the love that has blended your lives into a beautiful tapestry of shared moments and genuine affection.
As you make a move to join the twins, Miranda surprises you by smoothly backing you against the counter, a playful glint in her eyes. "Leaving so soon?" she quips, her tone filled with mock disappointment.
You chuckle, unable to resist her charm. "Well, someone has to supervise the post-cooking activities. Can't let the kitchen turn into a battlefield."
Miranda smirks, her fingers tracing light patterns on the countertop. "Supervision is overrated, darling. I much prefer a bit of chaos."
You play along, raising an eyebrow. "And here I thought you thrived on control. Are you admitting to a love for chaos?"
Her lips curve into a sly smile. "Only when it involves you, my dear."
You laugh, teasingly responding, "Smooth as always, Miranda. I should have known you'd have a plan to keep me right where you want me."
Miranda leans in, her breath warm against your ear. "Oh, you have no idea how much I enjoy having you right where I want you."
The banter between you takes on a loving and playful rhythm, each remark laced with affection. As Miranda continues to playfully corner you against the counter, you can't help but marvel at the unexpected and delightful turns your day has taken.
"So, do you have any more smooth moves up your sleeve, or is this the grand finale?" you quip, your tone filled with a playful challenge.
Miranda smirks, leaning back slightly. "Darling, with you, every moment is a grand finale."
Your laughter fills the kitchen, blending with the sounds of the twins' joyous play in the background. The playful banter between you and Miranda weaves a thread of intimacy that adds a layer of sweetness to the Thanksgiving celebration. As the banter continues, you realize that in this unscripted dance of words and affections, you've found a home within the heart of your uniquely loving family.
As the playful banter subsides, you find comfort in the warmth of each other's presence. The kitchen, once a hub of activity, now holds the quiet promise of shared moments and the enduring bond you've created. Hand in hand, you leave the playful banter behind, ready to join the twins and savor the Thanksgiving feast that awaits.

(BIG SPOILERS FOR RUIN DLC. IT'S OUT NOW GO WATCH/PLAY IT)
Anyway I'm gonna thought-dump about my thoughts and speculation the dlc gave me with various confusing details.
- The sword sticking out of the princess quest game. That implies Cassidy was released and is out there somewhere.
- The continuous mentioning of Cassie's father. When Cassie comments on him having a fazwrench, the Bonnie lunch box being labeled as her dad's favorite, the Chica lunch box being labeled as something her dad is collecting. This mostly has my interest because, how do Cassidy and Gregory know each other? Everyone presumed it's cause they're from the same orphan home since Greg is homeless, but this disproves that.
- Also Cassie's dad having a fazwrench and Bonnie being his favorite is an Elizabeth parallel for Cassie.
- The continuous split parallels with Cassie towards Charlie, Cassidy, AND Vanessa. And a little bit of Elizabeth too. Who is she? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?! This only just made me realize how Vanessa parallels both Elizabeth and Cassidy (Princess Quest and the mask)
- Roxy is hunting Gregory, and Gregory only. She's nice to Cassie. This implies the same with the others. Gregory is their focus. They want to kill him. Why?
- THE WHOLE FUCKING BETRAYAL AT THE END, but especially the quote "we can't have it tracking us". If Greg was referring to him and Cassie, he wouldn't have dropped her. That means he's referring to someone else with him.
- Freddy?? Where's your head man. Why you evil now. What's with the stomach mouth paralleling Nightmare Fredbear. You were the only good dad of the franchise why you do that : (
- But also doesn't that mean the Princess Quest ending is the canon one? Since Freddy doesn't have his head.
- I seriously doubt that's all we're seeing of Eclipse. He's such a cool character give me more than 7 second screentime.
- The Vanny mask. Everything about the Vanny mask. I don't even have the time OR mental capacity to go over that. How? Why? Where? When? What???
- The Fredbear ending. What does it mean? Is it an illusion? Cassie just runs towards a cardboard cutout and supposedly reaches the "good ending." And Vanessa being in the background. Does that mean Cassie also knows Vanessa? Weird. But also lets keep in note how Van is in that ending but Freddy's head isn't.
- sssc. Sccoopp?? Scoping???? Sceep ending??!?@?$? Dnenfnrnnenfndn. Whyyywh?!?!??!? WHAT
- I feel like deactivating the haunted wet floor bots has to lead to an ending. The children voices, the fact they exist at all. Feels too important.
- Roxy still lived after the deactivation?? What does that mean? Did it not work? That has to mean something.
- If Mimic Greg is against the weird bunny guy in the Vanny mask, does that mean bunny guy could be an ally?
- Candy Cadet story.
I'll update this as more thoughts come to me. Tell me yours.

I've put this off for too long but here are my thoughts on the how the MW!Junker characters ended up in Junkertown;
Winston - The Tinker
Winston's probably the easiest, he just crashed in Australia after escaping the Lunar colony. Though I do think that though he considers Junkertown his home, he does travel a lot more and did actually reach out to Hammond when he saw Wrecking Ball on the news. I like to think that they are still close friends in Mirrorwatch, just living different lives. I also think Winston would still be very similar to canon, or at least he's like that with the other Junkers. With everyone else he's a bit bitter and short with.
D.VA - The Champion
D.Va is also pretty easy for me, as Junker D.Va already has voice lines with that skin and Hana in general is just an easy character to reverse. My HC is that Hana ended up in Australia after a really bad fight with the Gwishi. Unlike in canon where hiring the best gamers for the MEKA piolets, despite their age, worked immediately. It didn't in the Mirrorwatch timeline. Hana loosing D.Mon and Dae-hyun is a particularly brutal fight against the Gwishi. After that fight she ran and ended up in Junkertown. Which was good for her as Junkertown was probably the most off the grid place you can be. Most of the public think that Hana died in the same fight that took her friends. After that Hana became the champion of Junkertown. Personality wise, there is already hints in the Junker skin voicelines that this Hana focuses a lot more on mechanics. There is also hints that she's a more Han Solo like character. I also like to think that she holds bitterness towards both MEKA and her old fans, seeing them see all the heart ache and trauma she went through and choosing to capitalize off it, not only making her a soldier but also using her as a way to make money.
Genji - The Junker Ninja
Now I'm not sure if this Genji skin has voice lines with it but I'm going to go off of what information we do get, and by that I mean I'm going to look way to much into the Name Card Genji gets. So I've already talked about how I think Genji was initially a part of Talon but escaped thanks to the help of MW!Cassidy. Basically with Vengeance she went to saving Genji expecting to get a living weapon out of the situation. After Genji escapes he basically has to go completely off the grid or Talon will find him a recapture him. So he eventually ends up in Junkertown. He then meets Symmetra who replaces his prosthetics both to make Genji feel more comfortable and to make sure Talon can't track him. With the Name Card, to me he looks like he takes the role of Junker towns protector, keeping what little peace and order there is. Basically he's a Batman like character in Mirrorwatch. He would also be a lot more chaotic, basically imagine Blackwatch Genji but a little less angry and mixed with what Genji most likely was like pre-cybernetics.
Symmetra - The Innovator
Now Sym was one I was excited to get to because I genuinely think she would be a mix of Lifeweaver and Lucio, her having been taken in by Vishkar but leaving as soon as she realized that Vishkar only wanted control. Rebelling in anyway she could. There is also the fact that with the voicelines Junker Sym gets it implies that she has been in Australia for awhile, meaning she likely left as soon as she was able to. I also think that Symmetra is the leader of Junkertown in this universe, specifically with how hard light technology would innovate the technology in Junkertown. For what this means for Junkertown itself, I still think it's incredibly chaotic, but I also think that it would be healthier, more plant life being around the area, maybe even some animals too. Again the politics and general vibe would be the same. There's just more of an effort to resort the environment within Junkertown. The only thing society wise that I think would change is the view on Omnics, them being welcomed in when Sym took power.

MAD QUEEN
- A Five Nights at Freddy’s Elseworld -
————————————————————
The incident that should have killed Elizabeth Afton in 1980 when she was 8 only crippled her left arm beyond repair. She lived, and eventually grew up to inherit her father’s company, Afton Robotics Inc., and continue his monstrous legacy.
With her father, now Springtrap, she searches for the spirit of her little brother Evan to bring him home, but her twin brother Michael refuses to let that happen.
Tumblr media
————————————————————
Some things canon to this Elseworld:
Michael and Elizabeth (Lizzy) are twins in this AU. She initially dies in 1980 at 8 years old, and Michael is 10-ish in 1983, when Evan dies. (Recycled idea from Freddy & Friends, my main FNAF AU)
It’s partially inspired by the old theory that Elizabeth was speaking through the Fredbear plush to Evan in the FNAF 4 ending, promising “I will put you back together.” Because of this, it is Lizzy’s goal to fulfill her’s and her father’s desires and bring Evan back from the dead.
William trains her to be the next head of Afton Robotics, and she continued his legacy after he was spring-locked. They concluded their experiments and completed his new body years ago, and now they’re on the search for his spirit, nowhere to be found. He’s hiding from them.
On this note, Android Theory is partially canon here, but not in its entirety. They’ve built an android body for Evan so that they can “revive” him, but they need his soul to do so. So no, there is no android Evan running around.
She never kills anyone directly, but I imagine she either reopens Circus Baby’s Pizza World or creates the Twisted ones for experimentation (or both). One thing’s for sure: she’s just as psychotic as her father. That’s why Evan doesn’t want to be found. He knows they’re monsters.
GoldenDuo is for sure canon to this, but in a different way. Instead of the two spirits inhabiting Golden Freddy, Evan isn’t tethered to any specific character (not even Shadow Freddy). However, Evan tends to cling to Cassidy because she’s his friend, and Cassidy protects him from the rest of his family, including Michael (though she still has an ego that only a child can have).
Michael has a… complicated relationship with his family. William and Lizzy are convinced that he hates them, just like he hated Evan, but they never saw—they refused to see—that he loved Evan as much as anyone else in that family. He wants to love them too, but they won’t let him. They hate him.
Michael does NOT get scooped in this AU. Because Elizabeth is still alive, there is no reason for Michael to be sent to Sister Location.
Elizabeth doesn’t hate Circus Baby for what happened because she knows it was an accident. It was supposed to be anyone else, and she was unlucky enough to be the one kid that was alone. Michael has some distaste from her not seeing it the same way with him.
Evan used to hate Michael, but Charlie (The Puppet) eventually helped him realize that Michael was a good person, and wanted to help Evan more than anything in the world. So Evan revealed himself to Michael, and they both worked together to put an end to his father’s sick game.
Lastly, this is NOT canon to Freddy & Friends (my main FNAF AU). This is a sort of “what if” on the OG FNAF timeline, with a few of my own takes in there (with the help of a friend). If you wanna do something with this—make fan art, fanfics, animations—go right on ahead. This was just me writing these ideas down and seeing how they flow.
Be sure to give credit if you do anything with it, though.
—————————————
MORE INFORMATION + ISOLATED SKETCHES UNDER THE CUT
—————————————
Canon Event - The Night of the Fire:
March 16, 2007, Michael sets fire to an Afton Robotics warehouse where Springtrap and Evan’s new body are being kept, but not without interference from Elizabeth. She almost kills him, holding him at gunpoint, but she realizes that she has some semblance of a heart after all. They both escape the burning building together.
Michael and Elizabeth have a heart to heart outside as they watch the building burn: Elizabeth learns that Michael never hated them. He’s always loved them, and wanted nothing more than to be her brother, but they refused him; it was easier to believe that he meant to kill Evan than to believe it was an accident. Learning this, Elizabeth’s view of Michael shifted into something kinder.
Springtrap (who escaped the fire before it got bad) meets them back there. Michael tells them both that Evan doesn’t want to be found. He saw what their father did, and was horrified. Evan sees them as monsters. Elizabeth realizes that it’s true, but Springtrap starts laughing with pure joy, now that he knows that Golden Freddy was the only suit in the room when he did what he did. He now knows how to find Evan now but, Elizabeth finally realizes how much of a monster her father is.
William doesn’t actually care about what Evan wants, and he never did. He only cared about how Evan made him feel—Evan was his favorite child, and he only gave the twins attention when they were useful. William only cares about himself, and it’s only now that Elizabeth sees that. All she ever was to him was a tool to help him get what he wants.
Elizabeth on the other hand DOES care about Evan. He was her brother, and she loved playing with him. He was the light of the family, and the twins knew that better than anyone. Her whole plan for him hinged on him never having to learn what she and her father did to bring him back, but he knew the whole time. She was heartbroken, ashamed of what she had done—what she became in order to please her father.
Springtrap and Michael start fighting, just like they used to. But this time, it’s the last straw. Elizabeth tries to stop him, but Springtrap backhands her across the cheek, and he throws Michael back into the fire as the building explodes, forcing Elizabeth to watch her brother scream in pain as the fire begins to consume him. Filled with rage, she punches Springtrap in the face, shattering the prosthetic arm that he made for her. Springtrap abandons her, coming to realize that he no longer needs her.
Michael would have been dead if Evan didn’t convince Cassidy to save him. Michael had severe third degree burns across most of his body, but he survived. Afterwards, Mike is treated by a nurse friend of Elizabeth’s (gay?) in her home because Michael hates hospitals (they bring back bad memories).
Michael and Elizabeth now work together to bring their father down once and for all, helping the other spirits find their happiest day.

I’ve been stuck in the urgent care waiting room for the past hour and I have nothing better to do so here’s a rant about how my most pathetic character became my most badass character for what is quite possibly the stupidest reason.
So I created this character named Cassidy and her deal is she has a power that is useless. She can reverse time, but that amount of time is taken off her life. I did this so she wouldn’t be too powerful and it became a huge part of her character because she hated her power and worked hard at everything else to make up for it. Still, she never used it.
I always planned to kill off a main character and I chose Cassidy because I thought she was the most deposable. I told myself years ago that I would never change my mind and had to go through with this.
So anyway I changed my mind. Why? Because I realized she had a lot of chemistry with another main character. It wasn’t even intentional—it just happened. The one thing in this world that kept Cassidy from dying was a ship.
Then I thought “if she doesn’t die then what do I do with her?” The answer was still let the antagonist nearly kill her, but out of revenge she finally accepts her power and uses it to sabotage her. She’s willing to shorten her own lifespan to get back at the antagonist and protect her friends.
This is so much more interesting right? I’m glad I realize the shipping potential because that tiny change improved this character so much.

in my expanded Hogwarts Mystery fics, there is one theme that i particularly love to write about and it's the fond relationship between Cassidy and Percy
by the time Percy comes to Hogwarts, he keeps hearing great stories about Cassidy Mercury who protects the school from the dangerous Cursed Vaults. also she's one of the best students in her age, good friends with his two older brothers and later, she becomes a prefect.
so naturally he looks up to her.
but Cassidy wins his loyalty on one thing and that is because she saved him from Rakepick in Year 5 and 6. you read that right, Cassidy saved his life twice.
at this point, she has become like a big sister figure for him. she doesn't brush him off because he's younger, but she sits down and listens to him. she pays attention to him. she respects his opinions and doesn't make fun of him.
for example, when they first met in Year 5;
Percy: We haven't been properly introduced...I'm Percy Weasley, future Gryffindor Prefect, Head Boy and eventual Minister of Magic. Cassidy: Sounds like you have your entire life planned out. :)
we know that the Weasley siblings would poke fun at Percy for saying that, but Cassidy doesn't and respects his ambitions. she has treated him like an equal since day 1 and that's why she won Percy from the beginning.
in-game, they have gone even on adventures with Percy. like when the twins disappeared in Year 6 and we're looking for them with Percy who is, understandably really worried (caused there is a dangerous Cursed Vault at the works!) and even ventures into the Forbidden Forest with Cassidy.
and in the sidequest where there is a party in the Borrow while the parents are away on business, Percy choses to lie (it's a white lie to spare Charlie and the others from trouble) when their mum asks them if there were any trouble.
Percy: It's true! I even organized your sock drawer! (when Molly asked if it was true everyone did chores and did not do anything suspicious)
also when finding out that dark artefacts were moved to the Ministry, Cassidy goes to find Percy (and Tulip, but she isn't really fond of talking about the Ministry). the minute Cassidy asked for Percy's expertise, this is the first time we see him so openly happy and excited.
Cassidy Mercury (the MC): Tulip, Percy. I need you to tell me everything you know about the Ministry of Magic headquarters. Percy (excitedly): Merlin's bread, where do I begin?!
clearly, Cassidy trusts his judgement and knowledge more than well enough to ask him about his input and Percy becomes to happy about being important enough to be asked for his expertise. that is really heartwarming.
not to mention in that same scene, Percy agrees to help Cassidy break into the fucking Ministry because she helped him finding Fred and George.
and in my stories, Rakepick actively manipulates and endanger Percy because of his Seer abilities (yes, Percy has strong Seer powers in my fanfics, but he's not strong enough for a full prophecy). he has a bigger role in my HM stories since Rakepick is more villainous and she ends up using Percy as a leverage to get to Bill, Charlie and Cassidy.
the section below is spoilers for year 6 in my HPHM fanfiction
[in one of my fanfic stories (during Year 6), Rakepick takes him as hostage to the Forbidden Forest. Percy had, by this point, become used as a tool to "predict" the future of Rakepick and the Cursed Vaults. his Seer power (which Percy has named as "foresight") isn't strong enough for a full prophecy and Rakepick decides to use him as a bait for the Cursed Vaults.
back at the castle when the gang is preparing to infiltrate the meeting Rakepick is having with 'R' in the forest, they find out from Oliver Wood that Percy has gone missing and his "rat" is acting weird as in full panic. Cassidy then realizes that there is a connection between Percy's terrified behavior for the past months and quickly deductes that Rakepick has him.]
Cassidy saved Percy's life twice and she has promised him that no matter what happens to her or in the future, she will always return to save him. so his feelings about Cassidy is nothing but pure love and loyalty, like how a younger brother sees his big sister. with Cassidy in the picture, Percy is no longer the odd one out in his family (where everyone are paired with someone except him).
in my Wizard Archivist series, the theme of their friendship is especially in focus because Cassidy is, since before the HP book events starts, locked in a hellscape world beyond the real Cursed Vault and Percy struggles to re-open that vault to bring her home with risk for his own life. '
conclusion? Percy genuinely loves Cassidy, as if it was his big sister and she has always been there for him, wheather it's saving his life or just listening to him rambling. it's an innocent and pure love. Cassidy, who is the younger sister to Jacob and has no younger siblings, adores him in the same way.
in a way, Cassidy became a substitiute when Bill and Charlie were too busy with their lives and a source of unconditional love for Percy.
and the kicker is when Cassidy came to save him the first time, she had just smiled and told him that everything would be alright because she was there now.
thanks for coming to my TED talk about Percy and his inofficial "big sis" role model Cassidy Mercury

Sisterly advice
Wake the Dead fanfic
Pairing: Brynn Archer / Eva Archer (sisters)
@choicesfebruary2024 Prompt: Family
Summary: Eva and Brynn Archer enjoy a rare day off in the Tower.
Word count: 1,200
Rating: Teen
Tumblr media
Today has been an almost perfect day, Eva Archer reflects.
She’d had the day off from pest control. Brynn and her crew were also on a rare break from scouting.
She and Brynn had woken up late, enjoyed a half decent meal for a change – scavengers had brought back apples from a nearby grove – and spent the afternoon playing cards with Cassidy, Dirk, Troy and Mack.
Even Troy had refrained from cheating, mostly. He’d slipped her a couple of aces under the table when her pile of chips had run dangerously low, grinning charmingly at Cassidy’s amused smirk, the others oblivious to the maneuver.
This was about as perfect a day as she could hope for within the confines of the Tower.
Her wandering thoughts sour at that.
The Tower.
Forever cooped inside a large, windowless, oppressive bunker. Surrounded by too many people, all busy eking out a living, oblivious to the world around them, living and working under the flickering of artificial neon lights.
Of course, there were bright spots in that otherwise bleak world.
Her Sister Brynn and her scouting crew, Cassidy, Dirk, Brianna. Their quirky friend Mack. And Troy, her best friend and partner in crime. They had become her adopted family. Made her existence in the Tower more bearable.
Eva dreams of being able to head out and see the world. Feel the grass between her toes again. Visit some old world relics she faintly remembered from her childhood and would avidly read about in Troy’s magazines - amusement parks, libraries, museums... She wants to swim in the sea. Feel the warm, salty breeze on her face.
Eva barely remembers life before the drones, before the Tower. She had been so young when people had started to change, when they’d lost their fathers and had been forced to flee. Brynn, still a child herself, taking on the parenting role.
“Hey! Earth to Eva! What are you daydreaming about?”
It’s the main reason she wants to become a scout so bad. To Brynn’s immense displeasure. Too dangerous, she’d growl, shutting down every attempt at a conversation.

Brynn pulls her out of her reverie with a light tug. Both sisters are sitting cross-legged on Brynn’s bottom bunk, the older sister’s hands nimbly working on braiding Eva’s fiery red hair.
“Nothing... I just.. I’m realizing, I’m starting to forget what the outside world looks like, feels like...” Eva murmurs, looking at her hands.
Brynn freezes, a pained look on her face.
“Eva...”
“And I know what you’re going to say, outside is dangerous, full of drones. And I know you’re right, I’m not trying to minimize the danger. But still, you get to actually leave this place for a while, breathe fresh air, feel the sun on your face... The last time I saw any of the outside world was when Troy ...”
Eva clamps her mouth shut, realizing she’d said too much.
“When you what? Eva, when the hell did you see the outside world with Troy?!” Brynn rounds on her, furious.
“It’s not like we left the tower or anything, Brynn! A... a few months ago, he took me to see the northern lights up on one of the top floors. We may have snuck back up a few times since... but only at night, with no one around to see us, I swear!”
“Are you kidding me, Eva?! Do you have any idea what’ll happen if Blackstock’s people find you sneaking into off limit areas? And after curfew at that?! God, I don’t know who's the worst influence between the two of you.”
Brynn stares at her, furious, then lets out an amused chuckle.
“You know, I thought the two of you were sneaking around making out or something. Was working myself up to the birds and bees talk. I definitely did not suspect late night stargazing. You’re such dorks!”
“Making out?! Birds and - what on earth gave you that ridiculous idea?” Eva splutters, face heating up.
“Oh come on, little sis, I’m not blind. I can see how you look at each other. And the not-so-subtle flirting.”
Wait, what does Brynn mean about Troy looking at me like… Eva’s mind spins as she thinks back to their daily interactions. His charming smile, his soft brown eyes sparkling with mischief and affection…
Nah, he’s just being friendly, as he’s always been. My best friend, nothing more, nothing less.
Could they ever be something more?
She shakes the thoughts away.
Brynn smirks, enjoying her sister’s discomfort a little too much.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Eva mumbles, “Troy's just a friend. Besides, he’s a huge flirt. And a goofball. And an ass more often than not. He’s really not my type.”
“Uh Huh. You keep telling yourself that.” Brynn smiles, amused.
“Okay, since we’re going there, what about you and Dirk? I see the way he looks at you. The guy worships the ground you walk on!” Eva turns towards her big sister, a mischievous sparkle in her eyes.
Brynn becomes serious, a little hesitant.
“Dirk and I... It’s complicated. I know he cares about me. And I do have… feelings. But when you’re out with someone risking your lives on a near daily basis, you need to fully trust them. Right now, we have a great dynamic going with him, Cassidy, Brianna. We have each other’s backs, but we also know none of us will hesitate to do the hard thing if one of us got bit. If Dirk and I became something more, I’m worried it’d cloud our judgement if things went south...”
Eva takes in the admission, brows knitted, then grabs her big sister in a crushing hug.
“Brynn, you deserve happiness. And love - even if it’s with someone as grumpy as Dirk.”
Brynn scoffs at that, but Eva continues.
“I swear, you’re always putting everyone’s needs and wellbeing ahead of yours. Even the damn job. You’re always looking out for me -”
“It’s my job, even though you don’t make it easy, you brat!”
“Well, if you weren’t such a stuck-up ass all the time ...”
“Watch it, lil sis...” Brynn growls, eyes narrowing in warning.
“Or what? You gonna -”
Eva squeals as Brynn lunges at her, jumping off the bed. She ducks as a pillow sails right above her head.
“I swear Eva, I don’t know how I even put up with you.” Brynn mutters, getting up to grab her boots.
“’It’s cause you loooove me!”
“You’re lucky we’re related or you’d be out on your ass. Now get a move on or we’ll miss evening rations.”
“Yeah yeah.” Eva smirks.
She suddenly turns serious, pensive.
“For what it’s worth, Brynn, I get your concern that letting someone in may… complicate an already good thing. But if you don’t, you can also miss out on the chance of something amazing.”
Brynn stops to ponder. Then smirks.
“Wait, actual words of wisdom from my little sis? I guess you did learn something in between all your suspensions. Any chance you’ll follow your own advice?”
“… I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Riiiight.”
Eva rolls her eyes, wrapping an arm around Brynn to give her a hug.
Brynn reaches up and playfully rubs her knuckles on her sister’s head.
“Ouch! Brat!”
Both sisters giggle and tease each other as they head out into the labyrinth of neon-lit hallways.

(lol btw this is overwatch ask anon) May I suggest a solid "reacting to their s/o having a nightmare"? The contents of the nightmare aren't super important but I just love the fluff of it. Cassidy, hanzo and maybe genji? Plus anyone else you want to add (I really liked the ashe one you included on the last one btw :] )
(BTW I am adding Ashe again and soldier 76)
(Btww I have so many nightmares it's not even funny😔)
Overwatch s/o has a nightmare😞
Cassidy
Immediately pulls you into him
He doesn't know what happened but he heard you scream and his mind just goes "protect y/n"
After he realizes what happened he'll comfort
If you can't sleep he'll tell you stories from when he was in Blackwatch or stories of Deadlock
He will make sure you comfortable before you go back to sleep
He'll even joke that he'll stay guard so no bad dreams get to you
Hanzo
He also has nightmares a lot
Mainly about Genji
So when he hears that you had one he goes into caring boyfriend mode
He gets you blankets, a movie, and some hot chocolate
You know comfort stuff
He will cuddle you and whispers that its okay and he's here if he feels you shivering
If your crying because of the nightmare he might panic a little bit but he handles it pretty well with more cuddles and forehead kisses
Genji
He's gotten a lot better about handling nightmares from Zenyatta
So he's got you
He'll take you outside to look at the stars and calm down
He'll also do some meditation or breathing exercises to help
If your crying he'll wipe your tears away and tell you stupid stories from when he and Hanzo were kids to make you laugh
Cause if you laugh he'll laugh and then your both giggling like psychos outside
But happy psychos
Soldier 76
Automatically panics
If you scream he'll spring up and grab his emergency gun from under the bed
When you say it was a nightmare he'll apologize
He didn't mean to overreact :(
After he calms down he'll cuddle you and read you a book he has to help
If you cry he panics and rocks you back and forth whispering in a panicked voice "don't cry its okay"
He's trying but it's kind of hard when he's on high alert from your scream
Ashe
She ALSO has an emergency gun under her pillow
When you scream she jumps up and yells "Where!?"
B.O.B also comes rushing in to see if your okay
When she sees you tear up she rushes over immediately
She hates seeing you cry and will do everything to stop it
She'll male you food or read you a book whatever you need to help calm down
If it makes you feel better she'll post B.O.B outside the room for extra measures
Whatever you need she'll get after all she leads Deadlock might as well use that title
Hope this works I'm not sure I got the personality right for hanzo but oh well I tried

What's the Moira/kiriko dynamic in ur mind? I've never really considered them as a couple before
Kiriko is the inexperienced young adult still discovering herself and Moira is the much more experienced, accomplished woman who knows exactly who she is. I think Kiriko would be a bit ignorant regarding exactly who Moira O'deorain is, and just sees this very confidant older woman and is a bit idealistic and what exactly this relationship would be (she's thinking like, this is an older lesbian who can tote me around and spoil me sort of thing. A typical experienced older lesbian teaching an inexperienced younger lesbian dynamic.) I definitely see Kiriko being into older, kind of meaner, women.
Also, I always kind of saw Kiriko as a more rebellious kid. I could totally see her dating Moira because that's exactly the kind of person she shouldnt be dating, yknow? I can see such a funny scene, where she takes Moira to her apartment, but her mom is there (not expecting Kiriko to bring home company) and Kiriko scrambling to come up with a reason why she's brought such an older woman to her apartment. Not like it should be any of your business mom! But she doesn't see the big picture, that Moira isn't just some serpent tongued, wise and handsome woman. She works for talon, she experiments on humans, she can and has done genuine harm.
I also think Kiriko is way too confident, and is definitely the one to initiate anything, asking Moira out, wanting to take her on a date. This is unusual for Moira, who is typically the one to start anything (She often fills the stereotypical 'man' role in relationships, taking women out on dates, paying, driving them around, being the more dominant, that sort of thing.) I think the only reason Moira even agrees to a date is because she wants to humor the idea of not having to lead for once. Kiriko is very different than the women Moira usually dates. Moira is used to michelin star dinners and formal events. I have this funny scenario in my head where Kiriko asks her out, not realizing she would need transportation to take Moira somewhere, and Moira having to ride on the back of Kiriko's motorcycle (side note; I like to think Kiriko has a motorcycle) and Kiriko takes her to some hole in the wall dinky walk up she likes to go to. Some place with greasy food and bench seating. Not exactly Moira's scene, but she finds it endearing, I think.
Thing is, Kiriko is expecting a real relationship out of this, and Moira? Well, like previously stated, she's humoring it. I think, like with Cassidy, they have these funny little bonding moments, where Moira talks a little more genuinely, softly, maybe even opens up a little bit. I'm workshopping a little comic with them together, so I wont go into too much detail about what exactly I think they bond over. It makes Kiriko feel a little special, like, wow, im getting the mysterious one to open up, I must be different! But really, it's just Moira being confusing. She can go from being nice to callous very, very quickly. When Moira is done playing dress up and grows tired of humoring relationships, she's quick to end them, and not nicely. Probably ends it when Kiriko makes the mistake of alluding to the fact that she wants more, and Moira probably, genuinely, laughs at her. Theyre relationship does not last very long and it does not end well, like most of Moira's relationships.

PART II of the short story inspired by @connectionterminated13 !
Here is Part I
---
The way to Henry’s house is too far from here. Freddy’s; he has to be at Freddy’s.
“Cassidy— Have you been to Freddy’s?” She seems so familiar, she has to have been there before.
“Freddy’s…?”
“Freddy Fazbear’s. The pizza place.”
She nods. “Are we going—?”
“Yep, that’s where we’re going. We’re going to go find a good friend of mine.”
“What about my friends?” Her big green eyes stare up at me.
“We’ll find your friends.”
It doesn’t take too long to run over to Freddy’s. It’s just out of the woods near my house… which makes it all the more easy for my father to find us. Henry has to be here. He has to help.
While all the lights at Freddy’s are dark, I know that not all hope is lost. Henry works security when my father neglects to do his job.
We reach the back door illuminated by a single yellow light. “Help me pound on this door, Cassidy— Ready?”
She nods excitedly, not waiting for a cue to start banging on the door and I join her.
“Henry—! It’s Mike— Open the door—!!”
Cassidy and I practically almost fall through the door when someone swings the door open.
“Mike? What are you doing here?”
“Henry— Dad— He’s been hurting kids! Like this one— This is Cassidy—” I pick her up again, “She says he hurt her friends, and I don’t know where they are and if they’re even still… you know—”
But Henry’s already walking away.
“Hey, are you listening to me—?”
“I’m listening,” He sighs, retreating back into some back room.
“No, you’re not!” I follow him. “Do you even care?”
“Of course I care, Michael,” He retorts.
“Then act like it— He can’t find us or he’ll kill us both—”
“Feel free to hide here, then… That’s what I do.”
“Hide? No, we need to do something—” I put Cassidy down in an area not crowded by animatronic parts.
“No, Mike… I’m done with trying to ‘do something’.” He sits behind a desk full of papers and small parts; I can barely see him over the mess on his desk.
“So you’re just going to keep sitting around letting kids die— Let her friends die—?!”
I stop, realizing what I’ve said and turn back to Cassidy, who’s looking at me with wide, panicked eyes before it hits her. Her big eyes fill with tears.
“No, no— Cassidy— That’s not true, they’re okay—”
“Don’t lie to her, Mike,” Henry sighs. “I know what he’s done—”
“And you did nothing?!” I can feel my own face and ears getting hot with frustration.
Henry slams his hand on the desk, “Don’t be ignorant, Michael, of course I tried to do something, but it’s no use! Ever since Charlie died I’ve been trying!” He turns away from me again, scoffing, as if I’m the one bothering him about this.
My throat clenches and my ears get hotter. Don’t cry.
“Come on, Cassidy.” I offer my hand to her again, which she gratefully takes, still crying a bit.
“Listen, Mike.” He says when I’m already almost at the door. “If you really want to change things, do something about it. I know you’re determined. I know you want this resolved more than anyone, believe me. But not me. I’m done. I can’t go on trying to fix his mistakes.”
Before I can answer, he tosses me some keys.
“My house. Go there until we can all figure this out.”
“...Thanks for nothing.” I mumble, pushing the door open with more force than intended.
“What are we going to do?” Cassidy asks me, her expression full of worry a four year old shouldn’t have.
“I don’t know.” For someone as stubborn as I am, someone would assume I'd have some kind of rebellious scheme up my sleeve like usual. But I don't. And that's what scares me the most.

Review #7: Rumours, Fleetwood Mac
I might have met a person who hasn’t listened to Rumours, but I’ve never met a person who has listened to it and was like “no thanks”. Never. If anyone hates this record get in touch, I just want to talk.
So interesting that such an incredible piece of work that holds up decade after decade, represents a band that during its creation was a damn hot mess. It’s not just a breakup record. It’s a double breakup record. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham had called it quits, and John and Christine McVie were circling the drain, divorcing while they toured Rumours. Hoo-boy can you feel it all. Never has such an overall cheery and upbeat record been so deeply filled with resentment, anger, heartbreak, defeat and getting the fuck over it. You’re just trying to keep up with which song is a fuck you from which band member to the other. Except you can’t, because you end up just getting lost in the music.
Never mind that before all of that, the drummer had an affair with Mick Fleetwood’s wife and all hell broke loose. Line up changes and whatnot. They started as a blues band, y’know? Yet, here we are, with this gorgeous thirty nine minutes of music and a group of people that arguably should seek therapy, rehab, and probably never see each other again. If David Attenborough is a Fleetwood Mac fan — and let’s assume that he is — he would say, “life… finds a way”.
As is often the case I had actually heard covers of a few of the songs as a young’un before ever hearing the originals or ever hearing the full album. Eva Cassidy covered Songbird. It was my childhood friend’s favorite song, and makes me think of her every time I hear it. The Corrs, Irish sibling band, covered Dreams in the late 90s. Their whole thing was a little weird. Jack Dee used to have a bit about the “odd” Corr brother that wasn’t invited to be in the band, Pat Corr. It was pretty funny. That old boss of mine used to say disparaging things about Andrea Corr as if she’d ever have given him the time of day. It makes me want to punch things, even now. I realize in hindsight he used to tear down any Irish woman musician that saw more success than him (see also: Sinéad O’Connor, Delores O’Riordan). They all did see more success, and they all deserved it, with two of them leaving legendary musical legacies even after death. He never made it past a breakfast show that had two knockoff muppets as presenters. I’m not joking.
Let’s talk about Second Hand News, what a charming and odd way to open an album. Buckingham wrote this and he’s generally acknowledged to be a real piece of work (allegedly, John McVie threw a glass of vodka in his face during the making of the record), even now. He insists he “ain’t gonna miss” Nicks when she goes, and that he’s been “tossed around enough”, but it’s pretty clear he ain’t over it. Boohoo, Lindsey. Such light acoustic riffs, luscious harmonies and hefty rhythm throughout with some outro guitar solo just to really make its point.
Dreams is a Stevie Nicks led classic. Let’s talk about Stevie. She’s been my hair inspiration for most of my life. She put out solo shit that was every bit as good as this record. Her voice sounds like that of a woman who has lived a thousand lives. An old, witchy, wise, woman, living in a young, exuberant, beautiful woman’s body. Like smoke on water. She warns Buckingham of his inevitable loneliness… “when the rain washes you clean, you’ll know”. Oof. For as tough and witchy as she is, there’s a real tenderness to her. I’ve always admired her ability to show the world all of her sides, the badass and the vulnerable. Pretty recently she showed us that vulnerable side when we lost Christine McVie. Stevie let her deep grief be known to the world. Whatever had gone on with that band, that was her best friend, and they’ll never sing together again.
This really is one of those where all of the tracks are amazing, but they’re all really different. Some are like standing in an open field of sunflowers, while some are like that part on a rollercoaster where you’re climbing slowly up the incline just waiting for the chaos. The Chain, I think, has to be my favorite for that reason. What I find so interesting is that they’re all credited as writers on this one, so it was an actual team effort, it would seem. First and foremost, the four (five?!) part harmonies in this are so incredible. It’s no softy squishy Simon and Garfunkel shit. These people are pissed, in different keys. It’s POWERFUL. But each instrument also has a voice of its own, the bass line, the guitar solo, the simple drum beat that evolves into a sprint. Whoever was on the tambourine even was going really fucking hard. It takes you on a damn journey. That rollercoaster was wild, let’s go again. And again. And again.
I used to have this record on vinyl and it sadly was one that got lost along the way between the UK and the US. I’ll say, it sounds mighty fine in that format. For a while in and after college, I lived in a shitty house in East London (it’s definitely fancy now but it was a rathole when I called it home). The kitchen ceiling literally caved in once. Anyway, it was me, my then boyfriend, my best girlfriend, and four other dudes. Sometimes we had just one rotating roommate. The point being it was some chaos, not unlike Fleetwood Mac in the making of Rumours. We were all a damn mess. But we were united any time I stuck this record on my turntable, or any time I was doing the dishes and one of the singles came on my absolutely adorable digital radio that looked like a teeny tiny Marshall Amp (add to list of things I wish I still had). I think of the good times in those kinda bad times when I hear Rumours, which is sort of the point of the album, as pointed out by Stevie in 2002:
“If you took out all the bad stuff in the band, the songs wouldn’t have happened. There simply wouldn’t have been a Rumours if everything had been fabulous.”
I’ll take her at her word, anyone with bangs that effortless can really do no wrong.

Eve Concept
In my rewrite/AU/whatever Eve ran away to the mortal realm after one too many put downs from the angels. She changes her name to "Evelyn Lambert" and takes up work in carpentry and repairs.
Avaline calls the business to fix a leaky faucet, Eve is sent and while working she notices that Flora bears a striking resemblance to her. She doesn't think much of it, later on Avaline goes to the shop to pick up an order, the two have small talk and find they have something in common.
Later on Eve discovers Ava and Evan are her great grandbabies, and strikes a reluctant agreement with Charlie and Lucifer to help train them.
Adam sees a chance to woo her back but she makes it clear she isn't up for his suave anymore...even if she hates to admit he still leaves her weak in the knees.
Red hair referencing clay/the red apple, and it's the color or love and passion
Her work outfit varies but she tends to wear comfy t shirts and overalls. Sometimes she likes to embroider with funky patterns
While passive and meek in the past, her time on earth made her more assertive
Thick brows like adam since she is made to be in his likeness somewhat
✨Curls✨ we bringing texture up in this BITCH
Hair used to be super long but over time she cut it short for manageability & to shed her old life
Used to wear pink blue and gold in heaven, now she wears variety of colors; essentially Rainbow/Multicolor themed
You can't see it but she has freckles
Definitely hippie/New Age vibes
Think of her as Miss Frizzle but more emotionally complex
Deeply regrets trusting Lilith and Lucifer so it was really REALLY hard for to accept Charlie
Her newfound independence terrifies and angers Adam...and arouses him....fuck...
Let's just say they're the most complicated exes ever
Dark brown eyes representing earth; also BROWN skin, I headcanon her to be MENA/african.
She eats just as many ribs as Adam.
Doesn't like apples but she do love oranges and honey on pears
Has a butterfly motif and wings symbolized her metaphorical death and rebirth into her own person
Thought about giving her a lioness motif to complement Adam's horns + lions protect the pride
Main flaw used her naivety and impulsiveness, now it's her distrust and low self worth; she's still kinda impulsive
Arc is realizing she has to accept her past and that she is allowed to find herself and breathe again, that not every mistake have devastating consequences
Mises Cain terribly, admits she forgives him for killing Abel
She's the one who gave Little Cloud (the purple lamb) to Abel
Bonds with Cassidy over their mutual interest in plants and religious trauma
Adores Flora, loves to talk about her kids with Flora and made sure Flora lives comfortably while temporarily stationed in heaven
Does stain glass projects too

Mcgenji/Spuriken x Reader relationship headcanons
(Cole Cassidy x Reader x genji shimada)
Tumblr media
You guys met during Blackwatch,Cassidy kept flirting with you, while genji was assigned to spar and trained with you.
Genji started getting close to you after many life or death situations during blackwatch.
Always fight for your attention,no matter what the situation is.
Genji smells like walnuts, certain fruits or nuts, while cassidy smells like cigars and cologne.
It's a weird mix honestly.
During blackwatch, genji used to come back from missions and give you a wilted flower or a pretty leaf.(IT WAS A CUTE GESTURE!)
Cole, whenever the mission succeeded,he would engulf you in a little hug once he came back.
When they realized they loved you, cassidy acted like a school girl, while genji tried to push away his feelings by avoiding you,it didn't work.
Blackwatch!genji would be the type to go to moira every week like a therapist, she gives great advice even though whenever he visits her in her office she says "I'm not a fucking therapist for your love issues."
Chaotic poly relationship.
If you met cassidy when he was in deadlock,he would act like his age and be so flustered around you. Like
Mccree:"Heyy....I'm yer huckleberry'"
Y/N:"Uh...thanks jesse..?"
Mccree but in his thoughts :"I FUCKED UP."
But if you met genji when he was young back then,he would try so hard to impress you.
Young!genji: Hey Y/N! Check this out!
Genji throws his sword at a dummy, stabbing it right in the middle,
Y/N:Woah! So cool!
Young!genji: "ありがとう (thanks) Y/N!"
Young!genji but in thoughts: "FUCK YEAH!"
Cyborg ninja dude and cowboy? A perfect duo.
Cassidy and genji are the type to get along with your parents and siblings.
They would question why the heck are you dating a cybernetic ninja dude and a cowboy that carries his peacemaker around everywhere. (THEY DONT MEAN IT IN A BAD WAY.)

Chapter 21
Pay For My Sins
What happened?
Ah, yes. He was in Shaggy’s body. And that was probably freaking her out just as much as her being alive was freaking him out.
Where was he even supposed to begin answering that question? Ricky was still working out ‘what happened’ for himself. And he didn’t even know where to start with what he did know. With waking up in Shaggy’s body? No - he needed to tell her about the sitting room. And to tell her about that he needed to tell her about Nova and the Annunaki. But wait - Nova had wound up in a coma after Cassidy left. So he’d need to tell her about the Horrible Herd… and about the fact that he’d nearly helped Pericles destroy Crystal Cove.
Uggghhhh there was too much… he didn’t want to talk about this. What he really wanted to know was, “How are you alive?” He croaked.
“You first,” Cassidy bumped the floor back to him.
“Well I don’t even know where to begin. You- *sniff* You died, Cassidy. You were dead. Velma told me how it happened. There was no way out of there, and yet you found one. So how?”
“Well I don’t know either and what I do know is a long story,” Cassidy retorted, once again bouncing the demand for an explanation back at him like a game of ping-pong.
“Try me,” Ricky dared, bouncing it back a little too aggressively.
“You- just- please Ricky,” She pleaded, raising their joined fingers to hold his hand with both of hers. “At least tell me why you look… not like yourself.”
Ricky swallowed down the butterflies dancing in his stomach and sighed. She’d been back from the dead for all of what? Fifteen minutes? And already they were… fuck, he didn’t want to argue with her. And she was right, really. Her being alive was unlikely. His current state was- should be impossible.
“I’ve been… body-swapped,” Ricky admitted. “With Shaggy and Arthur.”
Cassidy was so surprised she dropped his hand. “Shaggy… and Arthur?”
Ricky shook his head incredulously. “Yep,” he half-laughed, popping the p. He’d kind of gotten used to it, but explaining it out loud to someone really put the ridiculousness in perspective all over again. “I’m in Shaggy’s body, Shaggy is in Arthur’s, and Arthur is in mine.”
“Arthur was with the kids just now,” Cassidy said, thinking out loud. “So you mean to tell me that was-”
“That was Shaggy, yes.”
“Ohhh I was wondering what he was doing, and why he was wearing- where did you get this?” Cassidy asked, looking at his yellow and white striped shirt and lightly poking his jacket.
“Daphne,” Ricky replied, as if that explained everything.
“Ah,” Cassidy said, because that did explain everything.
“We kept getting called by the wrong names,” Ricky shrugged. “The shirts-” He cleared his throat, trying to remedy the hoarseness from all the crying. “-The shirts remind everyone who’s who.”
“Uh-huh… I can uh… see how that would be confusing but just- how did this even happen???”
“That is… a perfectly reasonable question,” Ricky said perfectly evenly, pointing at her with a shaking finger. “And I’ll tell ya,” he laughed in spite of himself, “I just need you to keep in mind here… that I am completely serious about everything I am about to tell you. And it’s gonna sound insane. I’m gonna sound insane. Just know that I am not fucking with you.”
“Baby. I survived killer robots and an exploding underwater lab, only to almost immediately meet a kitsune, a ghost, a girl with a magic ice bat, and a kid with a metal arm. Try me.”
Ricky sighed and nervously rubbed the back of his neck. “I… guess it all started-” But Ricky was cut off mid-sentence by his own stomach growling.
Fuck. Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuuuck! Not now! But his stomach growled again. Louder. Angrier. Hungrier. It was just like yesterday morning. In all the excitement, Ricky hadn’t realized just how hungry he was. It felt like his stomach was trying to eat itself. Was it like this for Shaggy every morning? Once again, his stomach snarled in ‘how-dare-you-go-this-long-without-food’. And Cassidy looked at his stomach like, ‘oh my God was that you?’ And his blood rushed to his face in ‘why-are-you-like-this?’ and his brain thought to itself: ‘can we just self-destruct on the spot please? Thank youuuu…’
“Uh… Shaggy’s body- comes with its challenges,” Ricky tried to laugh it off.
But that was when Cassidy’s stomach growled. “I uh… haven’t eaten since the meal they gave us on the plane.”
Ricky snorted. Cassidy giggled. And then they were laughing together in a way that they hadn’t since they were teenagers. Ricky doubled over, and Cassidy leaned back and clapped her hands.
“This- haha- this is ridiculous!” Ricky cried between his laughter.
“We’re ridiculous,” Cassidy agreed.
That only made Ricky laugh harder until before he knew it, his guffaws gave way into sobs and-
He was crying again.
Why the fuck are you crying again?!
And of course, Cassidy noticed.
“It- It really is you,” Ricky gasped, wiping his eyes. “I’m sorry- I don’t know- *sniff* I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Just- I’m sorry.”
“Ricky… it’s fine.” Cassidy put a hand on his shoulder, but he jerked away. He didn’t deserve it.
“It’s not fine, Cassidy! Wait- sorry. I- I didn’t mean to snap. That came out wrong. I just meant… that’s not what I meant. Sorry…” Ricky put his head between his knees, his fingers in his hair, and forced himself to take deep breaths.
You’re being ridiculous. You can’t talk when you’re hysterical like this. It’s stupid that you’re even crying. You’re a grown man, dammmit! Well- okay maybe not at this exact moment but on the inside you are what the fuck is wrong with you get a grip-
Cassidy was touching him. Her hand was on his back, rubbing circles.
He didn’t pull away this time.
༻˚⁺・⚉。○✼༓☾⦾♫෴♡💛♡෴♫⦾☽༓✼○。⚉・⁺˚༺
Another song had begun to play quietly from the dark recesses of the manor, harsh echoing beats of the keyboard like static with clashing crescendoing notes was the perfect accompaniment to the unease twisting her guts into knots.
What happened to you?
The question stirring in Cassidy’s mind had made its way into her very bones. It was like there was a shaken soda can in her chest, the pressure building, expanding, steadily making its way towards that inevitable explosion.
But she held it in. She watched. She listened. Because that was the only power she had right now.
He jerked away at first, but Cassidy could tell - because she knew him, she knew him better than she had ever known anyone besides herself - that there wasn’t any anger behind it anymore. He was hurting, and he was scared, but this time he was trying not to push her away.
“Ba-by, I’ve been tryin’ to make shit right… For eeevry-one I’ve ever lied to…”
His snarky mask was the only way Mr. E knew how to deal with his pain. But Ricky Owens - Ricky used to talk to her. And maybe it was because he was technically seventeen again, but right now…
Right now he didn’t look much like Mr. E at all.
“With Mom and Dad, it was all fights…  But in the end it’s family that we are tied to…”
She waited for him to settle a little. Then she put her hand on his back.
He jumped. But he didn’t pull away this time.
“Lately I’ve been thinkin’ I’ve been too far gone, uh
“See, I’ve been tryin’ to pay for my sins. But they won’t take my money, baby…”
“Oh, I’ve been tryna pay for my sins!  Mh, but they won’t take my money, baby, oooh~”
Ricky finally sat up and licked his lips, but he didn’t look at her. “What I… what I was trying to say was…”
“Oh, I’ve been tryna pay for my sins!  Mh, but they won’t take my money, baby, oooh~”
He swallowed and sniffed, then briefly wiped his nose with his sleeve. “What I um- what I said before… I’m sorry for exploding all over you like that. But uh… what I said. I know it didn’t come out right but… I need you to know. I meant every word.”
Then he looked at her… suddenly she could hardly hear the music at all. Puffy eyed. Flushed. Tear stained. Broken, yet still going. The way he looked at her… she could see his very soul bared to her on that face. Every crack, scar, and open wound. Burdens as heavy as the sky itself.
Most of them, Cassidy knew.
Some of them, she carried too.
But others… others were new.
She asked herself again: What happened to you?
“Cassidy I am so sorry,” Ricky said hoarsely, “For all of it. You were right about everything.” And the way he said it- the way he looked at her… as if he’d never meant anything more in his entire life.
“Just give it a chance. Just give me a chance. Just give me a chance.”
“I was- I was wrong, and I should have listened to you. I- I don’t know what happened. It all went from protecting the kids to fighting Pericles, and then suddenly it became about the treasure. Mystery uh… The Mystery Skulls keep telling me I’m cursed. Or that I- that I was cursed. But… I don’t think that’s an excuse. I was selfish. And stupid. So, so fucking stupid. And because of me, people got hurt. You got hurt. I… Hurt you…”
He trailed off, but she could see the horror written on his face.
One of his burdens gained a name.
Ricky shook his head and cleared his throat. “And there’s… there’s only one thing I said earlier that I’ll take back. And that’s when I asked you how you could ever forgive me. Okay? Don’t-... Don’t forgive me… Just don’t. Because I don’t deserve it. And I’m never going to forgive myself.”
Cassidy was so stunned that at first she didn’t say anything.
He apologized. He apologized! There was a time not so long ago when Cassidy thought she would never see the day.
‘Don’t forgive me. I don’t deserve it. And I’m never going to forgive myself.’
The latter, she believed.
But that face- ‘Don’t forgive me.’ His mouth said one thing but his eyes said something else. She could see guilt - but also that selfish wish we all have, for another chance.
Maybe he didn’t deserve it. And Cassidy was still angry with him. One apology, no matter how sincere, wasn’t enough to change that. So for now at least, she did not forgive him.
But if he kept up whatever this was… then maybe one day she would.
“Then I won’t.” And the way he deflated when she said it struck her right in the heart. But she wasn’t done yet. Once more, she took his hand in hers. “-But you’ve been one of the most important people in my life for over twenty years. I lost you for long enough - or maybe you lost yourself. Either way, I’m moving forward.” She lightly squeezed his hand. “-And this time I’m taking you with me.”
Ricky let out a choked, strangled noise and looked away, fast blinking before his emotions spilled out again.
Finally, not meeting her eyes he croaked, “... Why?”
Cassidy took a while to answer that. Finally, she replied. “There was this kid I knew once. But someone hurt him, and he lost… everything. And the person he became as a result was very different from the boy I loved.”
Ricky gulped. “... And what happened to that boy you knew?”
“The rest of the world forgot about him, as if the man he became just appeared from thin air one day. But I never forgot about him. And as different as he was… he was still important to me. That’s why I stayed. Even though he was… lost. And made some pretty dumbass decisions. But I had hope that he’d get his shit together. And now that I think he has…” Cassidy trailed off, unblinking, staring pointedly at Ricky. “He doesn’t exactly look the same as I remember right now… but I’d know him anywhere."
“... I think he’s gone Cassidy,” Ricky whispered.
“I don’t think that’s true,” Cassidy disagreed firmly. “You look more like the real Ricky Owens right now than you have in over a decade, Ricky. Twenty years, and you finally get your shit together? I know what you’ve done… But I did not just get you back, only to shove you away.”
“Maybe you should.”
“Maybe I know that. And maybe don’t give a fuck.”
Ricky looked away sharply. They didn’t say anything for a few seconds. Then he whispered, “I thought I killed you…”
Again, Cassidy had to take a minute before she knew what to say to that.
“... Mystery told me that you had nothing to do with it… Is that true? Did you really not know?”
Ricky shook his head, and his voice cracked. “No… And I swear I never would’ve let him if I knew. I’d’ve thrown him out… and he knew that.” Ricky’s voice hardened with rage as he gripped the edge of the step upon which he sat hard enough to turn his knuckles white. “He had to have fucking known that, because if he didn’t he wouldn’t have kept it from me!” Ricky started to shout, but he took a deep breath and checked his tone.
“Cassidy,” he began again, “I swear. On. My. Mother’s. Grave. I didn’t know. About the robots or the fact that he was using them to attack you. Hell - I bet that’s why he used the damn robots. They weren’t Destroido assets, so there wouldn’t’ve been any way for me to find out what he was doing with them until he barged into my company with them!”
Again, Ricky checked his tone. “-Sorry… the more I think about it, the angrier I get. But still… none of that changes the fact that your death… it would’ve been on me, Cassidy. You almost died. Because of me. And I’m going to have to live with that… for the rest of my days.”
“Then explain it to me,” Cassidy said. “If you didn’t know, then tell me how it was your fault.”
“I gave him the tools,” Ricky sighed. “He never would’ve had the resources to do what he did if it weren’t for me. The factory wasn’t mine and he did it behind my back, but he would’ve needed to use my assets to get it up and running again. Money, equipment, a submarine so that he could get down there to begin with… And secondly…”
His whole body tensed. “-Because he said something needed to be done about you,” And he refused, refused to look at her when he confessed this sin. “... And I agreed with him."
"I don’t know what the wool over my eyes was made of. Was I so hopeful that I had my friend back? Did I just want so badly to think the best of him? Was I delusional? Stupid? Cursed? I don’t know! But I swear Cassidy, I swear on everything I hold dear. Somehow, it never even crossed my mind that- that he’d…”
Ricky took a shuddering breath and swallowed before he continued. “I thought we were going to convince you to join us. Maybe threaten you. Convince you to leave town. And I know- I know how awful that sounds. It was awful. I’m awful. But at the time- at the time it seemed like what was best for everyone. But then he never said anything to me about it again, and eventually I noticed that it had been a while since I’d heard from you… then that you’d never gone so long without contacting me. And I- I was terrified, Cassidy. But for some reason I still told myself that you weren’t dead. That you couldn’t be dead. Because you’re… you’re…”
“... I’m what?” Cassidy demanded coldly.
Ricky’s face burned red with shame and as livid as she was, Cassidy couldn’t help but be reminded distinctly of how cute he’d once been - the way his whole face blushed when he was young. He looked away when he answered her.
“... Because you’re the most powerful person I’ve ever known.”
God. Fucking. Dammit.
I’m angry. So fucking angry. Be angry with him, dammit!
But fuck, he was making that difficult. Anything Cassidy had been bracing herself for, it wasn’t this. And he was still adding icing to the damn cake.
“I took you for granted Cassidy,” he sighed. “When we uh… before we broke up, I was… I was such a jerk to you. And still, when I asked you to, you uprooted the life you’d built and you came back here for me. I never properly thanked you for that. And I never told you… how much respect I really have for you. Because you really are… the most incredible person I’ve ever met. And I’m sorry, because I guess that I sort of had you on a pedestal. So it didn’t occur to me that you were just as human as I was and that you could-” His voice hitched- “That what I was doing could get you killed… and I know ‘sorry’ is just an empty word… but I am so, so sorry for that, Cassidy…”
STOP MAKING IT SO HARD TO BE MAD AT YOU!
Cassidy was just… stunned. It was such a drastic, drastic change from the man she’d left in the woods months ago. Once again, a question came to mind. And this time, she whispered it aloud.
“... What happened to you?”
He processed the question, and his face transformed. The sadness, the regret, the guilt all at once became deep shame and fear. Fear the likes of which she had only seen on his face a handful of times, even with how long she’d known him and all that they’d been through together. She could almost see the words forming on his tongue, but his lips just wouldn’t move.
He wants to tell me, she realized. But he’s terrified to.
༻˚⁺・⚉。○✼༓☾⦾♫෴♡💛♡෴♫⦾☽༓✼○。⚉・⁺˚༺
What happened to you?
Had he really been so changed that his scars were so easily visible to her eyes?
At once, Ricky’s whole body tightened as if he expected mutant venom to start coursing through his veins at any moment. Horrible images flashed before Ricky’s eyes, ghosts of cruel words echoing in his ears.
“Oh Ricky, Ricky…” “-an idiotic human mascot!” “-Anyone who crosses me gets-” “You are in charge of nothing!” “eliminated.” “-A shoulder for me to perch upon!” “You do. As I say.”
‘Tell her…’ A putrid, pitiful, desperate part of him begged. ‘Just tell her!... Please…’
And he wanted to. God, he wanted to…
But how could he?
“Perhaps… after breakfast, yes?”
Both of them jumped and turned around to see Mystery sitting on the steps above them.
Suddenly Ricky was back in the here and now. That frightened part of him went back into the box from whence it came and anger welled up instead.
“Youuuuu…”
“Good morning Ricky,” the kitsune said pleasantly with a flick of his tails.
“YOU COULD’VE TOLD ME SHE WASN’T DEAD MYSTERY!” Ricky shouted!
“You’re right. I could have,” Mystery replied calmly.
“SHE’S BEEN ALIVE THIS WHOLE TIME?! YOU KNEW THAT! AND I- YOU KNOW WHAT I WENT THROUGH! YOU WERE THERE!!!!”
“I was,” Mystery replied, his pleasant tone unchanging.
“YOU SHOULD HAVE FUCKING TOLD ME!”
“You’re right. I should have.”
“A FUCKING WARNING AT LEAST! What’s the use of having telepathy- WHYDIDN’TYOUWARNME?!”
“Because I was a coward.”
It was said with such ease and sincerity that it threw Ricky right out of shouting mode. “YOU- what?”
“I was a coward,” the kitsune shrugged with a sad smile. “And you’re right. I should have told you. In fact that was my intent. But I knew it would hurt you, and I was afraid. So in the end… For all my talk of lessening the shock for you, I let you see it for yourself. I shouldn’t have done that, Ricky. I’m sorry.”
Ricky blinked at him. Raised an indignant finger. Opened his mouth with a deep inhale as if he wanted to yell… then let it out, defeated. “There were literally dozens of opportunities yesterday for you to have told me, Mystery. For any of you to have told me! So why didn’t you?”
“Because we were worried about Arthur,” the kitsune answered honestly. “At least at first, that was the answer. We believed disclosing the fact that Cassidy was alive would hinder any efforts to rescue Arthur. But even after it became clear that no ‘rescue’ would be taking place, we knew we needed to come clean about our…” Mystery gave them a look and used a paw to gesture to himself and the very haunted mansion. “And if we told you about all of that and that Cassidy was alive, combined with everything else that happened yesterday, we believed it would have been too much for you. The plan really was to tell you about it this morning over breakfast. Cassidy wasn’t expected to arrive for almost another two hours.”
“Dog. Do not put that on me. Vivi made it sound like-” But Cassidy glanced at Ricky and nervously cleared her throat. “-She said it was urgent. So I took shortcuts. No breaks… may have taken the speed limit as a suggestion.”
“I wasn’t, as you say, ‘putting it on you’,” the kitsune sighed. “You’re both right. We should have planned for this. But we did not, and the result was a rather nasty shock. Vivi and Lewis will apologize personally as well, but at the moment they are in the kitchen with the kids, making breakfast. When you’re ready, I’d like very much for you to join us.”
Ricky was staring at Mystery, dumbfounded. “... What’s the catch?” he asked suspiciously.
“No catch,” Mystery said pleasantly. “I made a mistake. An apology is the least you deserve.”
“So… that’s it? You’re just… you were wrong?”
“I was wrong,” Mystery confirmed.
“And you’re just going to admit it and apologize just like that?”
“Just like that,” he nodded.
Ricky could scarcely believe it. Where was the digging in? The dismissal? The gaslighting? To just… receive a genuine apology like this so easily was… weird.
Dammit. Mystery had proven himself over and over again, and yet here Ricky was, once again comparing him to Pericles.
And clearly Mystery realized this, not that he took it to heart. But, he couldn’t resist the opportunity to insert a jab at the parrot. He tilted his head and asked passive-aggressively, “What kind of egotistical, feather-brained cockalorum would do otherwise?”
“Shaddup! I’m not used to this!”
Mystery just laughed, tails wagging. And that’s the moment Ricky’s stomach decided to roar in protest once again.
Uuuuugh… bury me… Ricky pulled his hood over his head with embarrassment and tugged on the strings to close it.
“Breakfast?” Mystery chuckled.
“Yez please…” Ricky grumbled, muffled through his jacket.
The kitsune laughed again and affectionately nuzzled him on the top of the head with his nose. “Come,” he said, stepping over Ricky and Cassidy to lead the way down the stairs. And Cassidy’s eyes followed him in utter amazement, hardly believing the interaction she’d just witnessed. But Mystery’s voice snapped her out of her daze.
“We’re in for a treat. Lewis is making crepes in honor of your return Cassidy, he began making preparations early this morning. The Peppers run a restaurant as you know, and the crepes are positively delectable. Lewis hasn’t told me what kind he’s making though. The nutella filling with banana is divine, but a bit too much sugar for my taste. Then there’s the more pleasant tang of lemon and blueberry, or the subtle sweetness of vanilla and strawberry. My personal favorite is chicken, spinach, and basil sprinkled with cheese, but then again I am primarily a carnivore by nature so it is sensible that my palette would lean more on the savory side. Then there’s when he substitutes chicken for steak…”
Smiling, Cassidy made eye contact with Ricky over Mystery’s tails as they followed him, and Ricky snorted when she shook her head and rolled her eyes fondly at the kitsune’s ramblings.
Crepes really weren’t what was important right now, but Mystery seemed to have a mysterious way of knowing exactly what to say to make his friends feel better. The talk of food was entirely irrelevant to the issues at hand, and if anything it was just making Ricky hungrier. But the kitsune seemed so nonchalant, his rambling so utterly domestic, that as uncertain as what lay ahead was…
He truly made it seem as if everything was going to be okay.
༻˚⁺・⚉。○✼༓☾⦾♫෴♡💛♡෴♫⦾☽༓✼○。⚉・⁺˚༺
Vivi and Lewis were waiting for them outside the kitchen area, and Cassidy went inside while Ricky stood, arms crossed, and waited for the inevitable apology.
They didn’t say anything for a couple of moments, the Mystery Skulls at a loss at how to begin, before Ricky grew bored of their squirming, pursed his lips, and said, “So. She’s alive.”
Both of them gulped. “Yeah. Yeah, she is.” Lewis said.
Vivi cringed, “We really did want to tell you-”
“Save it,” Ricky interrupted her. “Mystery already told me why you didn’t tell me. And I…” Ricky groaned, frustrated, and ran his fingers through his hair. “I get why you did it. And it makes- sense. But dammit the more I think about it the more opportunities I think of for you to have told me, and the madder I get at you!”
“Which is totally valid-”
“And you’re just- accepting that you messed up, and owning up to it, and it’s weird!”
Vivi and Lewis gave him a look. “Dude. Do the people around you usually… not?”
Ricky opened and closed his mouth, realizing there was nothing he could say without giving away yet another thing to make the Mystery Skulls feel sorry for him. So he just growled, frustrated, and marched into the kitchen.
As mad as he was at the Mystery Skulls, his brain compartmentalized his anger the second he walked into the kitchen.
Wow, am I happy to not be Cassidy right now.
No one was eating yet, as Lewis still wasn’t quite done with breakfast. But Ricky didn’t think they’d be eating even if the food was ready. Nope. Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby were doing the very same thing he’d been doing to Vivi and Lewis a moment ago: wordlessly glaring as both parties silently battled over who would talk first, and what would be said when they did.
Ricky knew the feeling. He’d been in that very same position this time yesterday, when he’d awoken in Shaggy’s body. And now, it was Cassidy’s turn.
The difference was that while they’d looked at him with confusion, anger, distrust, and dislike, the kids looked at Angel… hurt. Confused. Needing an explanation before they could move forward.
And honestly, Ricky felt the same way to an extent. She was alive. It was a miracle, almost too good to be true. But there was an explanation for everything, rational or supernatural. Whatever had happened, to allow her to remain alive on the same Earth as him, he was grateful for it.
And yet, he still needed to know: how?
As Ricky nervously approached, Cassidy was seated at the head of the table, and he got the impression that the kids had put her there based on the way they were sitting around her. Save one empty seat right beside her, which Daphne pulled out for him when he got close enough.
Oh dear, they’ve put me right at the heart of it, Ricky realized with a gulp, sitting down in the seat they’d saved for him. Ricky tried to appear small as the tension in the room mounted. He felt his stomach twinge. Please do not growl right now, he begged himself quietly.
Angel started to say, “Babies-”
“How are you alive?!” Velma demanded loudly.
Ricky jumped and suddenly didn’t feel quite as hungry.
“Yeah. Like, what gives? Like I thought you weren’t gonna lie to us anymore!” Shaggy said, hurt.
“Hold on guys, give her a chance to explain herself,” Vivi said, sitting at the table next to Mystery, who had turned back into a dog for the sake of fitting at the table.
“You have no room to talk!” Fred snapped. “You knew about this, too! You’ve known since before you came to Crystal Cove! Why should we listen to you when you’ve been lying to us since the beginning?”
“I don’t know. Maybe because the town is cursed and we’d literally just met you,” Vivi said pointedly. “It wasn't safe yet for Cassidy to come back into the fold. We couldn’t risk telling anyone until we were formally working together and had some trust built between us.”
“Fine. That I can understand,” Daphne sighed. “But Cassidy… we cried for you. We’d just started trusting you again. You couldn’t have sent us a message? Something to let us know you were okay? How could you do this?”
“I know, I know. Believe me, I had meant to never lie to you again. But then… you don’t understand-”
“Then make us understand.” Velma demanded.
Cassidy sighed, and began to tell her story.
Another short-ish chapter, but Chapter 22 is already well in the works and I've been working on something else as well that I really wanted to have done before I posted 21, but I'm at an art block rn and didn't want to make ya'all wait. I know a lot of you probably wanted to find out how Cassidy survived in this chapter, or for Cassidy to be caught up on a certain thing... but I thought that they needed to clear the air on some other things first. And the heartfelt reunion part 2/apology turned out a bit longer than I expected. So here we are. The next chapter tho, I will tell you, is dedicated entirely to how Cassidy survived and met the Mystery Skulls. It's going to answer a lot of questions, for sure... but will it raise even more? 😈 And uuuugh - again I need to write an entire post about why I picked this song for this chapter, but I just haven't! I haven't for 'God' yet either, but I really need to! Anyway - I hope you loved this chapter as much as I liked writing it!!! 😄
Chapters 1-20 of ‘One of Us’ are presently posted on Archive of Our Own!

Not that anyone asked, but I’ve been unhealthily obsessed with wrestling for a little over a month now (just AEW), and thought I’d share my personal favourites:
Favourite Trio: The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn, and it’s not even close. They’re just such a fun time. I don’t think there’s anything else to say.
Favourite Tag Team: MJF and Adam Cole. I mean, come on. I really didn’t care about MJF in the beginning (though I thought he was very good at what he did. Super talented), and I found Adam Cole kind of boring. But put them together and my god, it’s magic. Few things have made me as happy as the two of them together, and it’s going to shatter my heart when they get broken up. The bottom line, for me: MJF makes Cole fun, and Cole makes MJF a good person. It’s beautiful. I could talk about them all day, my god.
Top 5 Favourites in general:
CM Punk - I know opinions are very mixed on him, but it literally only took one Collision for him to become my favourite. Just so good on the mic, super enjoyable to watch in the ring, and he seems like a genuinely good dude. I just. . . I just love him. Nothing will ever change that. Plus, Cult of Personality is just fucking awesome.
MJF - Now, you have to understand, until these past few weeks this spot was 100% Orange Cassidy’s. But I realized just how happy seeing him every week makes me, and how all I really wait for every week is his next match or promo (with Cole, of course, but I think this will remain the case after they’re broken up). He’s just so entertaining, great in the ring and on the mic, and one of the few that I believe is truly a good actor. Just pure joy, every time I see him.
Orange Cassidy - Now, just because he got bumped down one doesn’t mean I don’t still adore him. I love his whole schtick, I really do. It’s very entertaining, at least to me. I really appreciate anyone who tries to be that different from everybody else. And Jane by Jefferson Starship as his entrance song? Goddamn.
Kris Statlander - The only woman in the top 5, for now. And only because there’s only one fucking women’s match every show, so I haven’t gotten to see them all or really get to know or like any of them. But Statlander. Wow. As with Punk, it only took one look at her to know I adored her. She’s just awesome, what else can I say?
Adam Cole - It took me a bit longer to love him than it did the others, but slowly but surely, over the weeks in his tag team with MJF, I began to just adore him. He’s great.
Ones that aren’t my favourite, but I do really like them:
Chris Jericho - Now, before anyone (rightfully) judges me, I will explain. I know that he’s a shitbag in literally every aspect of his life, but I can’t help but find him so goddamn entertaining. I like his whole thing, I just do. The hair, the jackets, the shoes, the arrogance, it just works. I also think part of it is because I grew up with my dad watching WWE all the time, and Jericho is his favourite wrestler of all time. And Judas is a damn good song, it just is.
Juice Robinson - A fucking nutcase who is entertaining as hell. I love watching him.
Christian Cage - What an asshole. He’s great.
Dustin Rhodes - Maybe just nostalgia from when I used to watch WWE as a kid? Even still.
Sting - Again, maybe just nostalgia, but I don’t care.
Keith Lee - I honestly don’t even have a reason here, other than that he’s just cool.
Komander - Cool as fuck! Super impressive.
Samoa Joe - Honestly, just very cool. He also really makes me laugh.
Willow Nightingale - So cute! I just love her, and was so happy she won the Owen Hart tournament.
Ones I could potentially like but just haven’t seen enough from yet in the time I’ve been watching:
Best Friends - I adore Orange Cassidy and Kris Statlander but I haven’t seen much of Trent and Chuck. I’m sure I’ll love them though.
Danhausen - I haven’t seen him at all yet in any of the shows, but I have seen a bit of him on social media and I’m fully prepared to bump him up into the top 5 once he comes back.
Britt Baker - I’ve seen a few matches but definitely need to see more promos to like her.
Adam Page, Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley - I kind of feel the same about these three, in that I just need to see more before I decide to like them.
* if someone isn’t on any of the lists I either a) forgot about them, b) haven’t heard of them at all yet, c) don’t know enough to categorize them, or d) really, really dislike them (I was going to make this a category but honestly I just want to talk about the ones I like).
Lastly, I am deeply obsessed with this shit now and have no one to talk to about it, so if anyone wants to talk, feel free to send me a message. I have many, many thoughts and nowhere to put them 😂
