This was such a lovely story!!! I really appreciated the detailed descriptions of the coronation ceremony. How they are both feeling at key moments, their clothes (I love the symbolism behind Alex’s gown), their lovingly honest confessions…

I adore that Nik is always preoccupied with Alex’s well being, he wants her to be happy, safe, loved.

It was time. Today was the royal coronation ball of Nik's girlfriend, Alex. Lady Alexis Clarissa Fontaine, soon to be the new Duchess of Lamrian. Nik Ryder arrived at the ball, wearing his most elegant suit as he was greeted by Lady Thalissa and some guests while most of the other nobles didn't show any interest in him. Nik's hands were in his pockets, he looked relaxed but the same way alert. As the rest of the guests arrived, he spotted Lady Alex in the crowd. He watched her from a distance, with both tenderness and pride. When he approached her, he greeted her as he gently took her hand and kissed it.

"Hey, love. Well, how does it feel to be a Duchess?", he gave her a half smile.

"Weird.", she answered which made him chuckles a little.

"And what were you expecting to feel?"

"Also, weird. I think."

"Rook, you're so adorable, you know that.", Nik smiled softly at her without taking his silvery-gray eyes away from his beautiful partner. She was wearing an elegant cream-colored gown which symbolized pureness, light and harmony. After all, a dress wasn't just a dress but also delivered a message which is very important for royalties.

"And how does it feel for you now suddenly dating a duchess? A royalty."

"Well, I... sometimes I feel a little overwhelmed, the idea... I mean, I'm dating someone much higher in status than I am. But then I look at you and forget everything.", he shyly answered.

"Oh Nik, I'm still your Alex and it wouldn't change that, my love", she confessed which brightened his face and a smile spread across his face as he placed both hands lightly on her cheeks.

"You're right, we're both lucky... you with your beauty and me because you chose me.", he leaned towards her and gave her a sweet kiss on the lips.

Before they both could continue enjoying their sweet moment and little chat, it was already time for the ceremony. Everyone took their places. Nik stayed in his place with the crowd of guests, carefully observing the ceremony. The crowning began and he watched Lady Alex attentively as she received her title and crown. Nik's eyes glimmered with pride, his heart beat so fast as he could feel his pulse pounding in his ears. Her beauty touched him deeply. From far away, Alex's eyes met his and the two exchanged a few smiles with the understanding of a strong love. The entire room held their breath, witnessing the coronation of the new Duchess of Lamrian, Lady Alexis Clarissa Fontaine. The ritual reached its climax and after Alex's name was announced, everyone applauded. She seemed to absorb all the attention of those present. Alex, the new Duchess was a combination of beauty, elegance, and dignity. Nik felt his heart beating faster the longer he gazed at her. She decided to hold a short speech which was already enough to say.

"I, Lady Alexis, new duchess of Lamrian swear to the be loyal and rule with heart, pride and justice over our Land."

The crowd burst into applause again, this time with more intensity. Lady Alex turned to look at Nik with a satisfied smile. She winked at him. Nik reacted by raising an eyebrow at her and showing her an affectionate smile. He was really proud of her, the new Duchess of Lamrian looked absolutely majestic. And the royal ball began.

The guests went over to congratulate their hostess. Nik decided to stay by her side with a little distance from the other nobles, in all cases, and made sure she felt comfortable. Then, the young Duchess turned to him with a mischievous smile and he knew perfectly well what she meant. She wanted to spend time with him and they finally had a chance. While the guests enjoyed the party, they both went to the garden to enjoy a few moments together.

He took her hand and led her to an isolated area in the garden, there he could not get interrupted by anyone and they could talk quietly. He wrapped his hands around her waist and gazed lovingly at her.

"Alex, how are you?"

"I'm glad you came to support me."

"Damn, I wouldn't miss an important occasion of yours just like that. Do you feel comfortable? Are you excited about today or do you feel nervous?", he asked and squeezed her waist tighter.

"Overwhelmed. I think that's a normal feeling, Nik."

"Well, just don't pay attention to the court gossipers. The important thing is that you are here and that you are happy. I'm gonna stay by your side and nothing can go wrong."

"People will get so jealous of you, Nik. For dating a duchess now, lol.", she laughed and then he was along with her.

"You're probably right. And to be honest, I'm looking forward to seeing their reaction when they find out that I, a Nighthunter, am the partner of a Duchess."

Their laughter faded after a short moment. Nik decided to take her hand and started circling it with his thumb before he spoke again.

"Nik, are you even allowed to make out with a duchess?", she joked. He looked at her with a mischievous smile on his face and pulled her even closer.

"My love, the truth is that I feel very proud. Proud of the woman you are

and most of all proud that you love me. You are so damn special and unique. No one would ever replace you in my heart.", he whispered in her ear while placing his other hand on her hip and then caressing it.

"Well, I must confess that I haven't read the manual. But I don't think that the code of conduct prohibits showing affection to a lovely lady."

Nik looked at her as if asking her for permission. The look on his face said it all, he wanted her. Now.

"Nik, my royal chambers are upstairs.

"But rook, there's no need to go to your private chambers. Here is fine.", he answered, then brought his face closer to hers.

"Nik, I'm the star tonight. The guests would notice that I, Their Duchess and Hostess was missing."

"Yes, everyone will notice that you are not around but that will cause even more curiosity later.", he smirked and lowered his head as he leaned closer to her lips.

"Hey, don't tease me. Or are you trying to seduce a duchess?", she asked as they parted for a second.

"Yeah, I'm trying to seduce the Duchess of Lamrian herself. Gonna be such a scandalous duchess affair indeed.", he joked with her. Moving her long, black-silvery hair behind her ear and caressed it again. She was actually right, maybe he shouldn't be kissing her here but he just couldn't resist the longing he felt now. So he began to kiss her slowly, gently, and with passion. The young man enjoyed the feeling of her girlfriend's lips and felt her increased breathing as he continued kissing her. He took a step forward and held her by the waist tightly, so she wouldn't try to stop him because she actually liked him taking the initiative. Nik kissed with a lot of passion, pressing her close to him until they were almost like one single person.

"Oh, Nik..."

He pulled her tightly to himself by her hips and continued with more passion. With this, she also found it very difficult to pull away and the kisses became more passionate and more prolonged. He ran his fingers through the curls of her hair and kissed her neck and her ear too.

Suddenly the Royal Guards were being heard, marching around which forced Nik and Alex to make out somewhere else. Somewhere hidden. Their kiss broke as a few of the guards moved closer towards them. Nik got immediately aware of what was going on and he took this as an opportunity to surprise his partner even more. With his body turned away from the guards, he took Alex's hand, pulled her behind the bushes nearby and then pushed her against the wall.

"Scared to get caught, my daring lover?", she giggled.

"Shhh, quiet. Or they'll catch us like this."

"But I... I... I can't. Okay, okay, I'll try.", she almost couldn't stop laughing and tried to suppress it. After a while, she got totally quiet. She was in a position with her back to the wall and her arms against his chest. Her lover leaned on top of her and looked into her eyes. Their faces are very close. He held Alex so tight against him that she could feel his heartbeat. The young nighthunter gazed longingly at the beauty in front of him, kissed her neck and then her cheek, before taking her earlobe between his thumb and index finger and nibbling it. Her breathing became even heavier as her heart started pounding faster again. She wanted to move away but something kept her there, and in the end, she allowed him to continue. They continued kissing feverishly with even more passion, their breath became hotter.

"Mmmmmhhh..."

He took Alex's hand and placed it against his chest, so she could feel the heat of his body and the beat of his heart. Kept her hand there, kissed her neck and her throat, nibbled the lobes of her ears, let his tongue wander and wander... "Nik, let's get quickly back. You don't want to end up in prison for seducing the new duchess, so let's get back. But I do will miss our hot moments.", she smiled. When she said that, he looked at her with a mischievous look on his face and grinned.

"Yes, my love. We must finish it in the right place, your private chambers. That's why you are my duchess so that you can share all the moments with me that your heart desires. We'll enjoy the next round, I promise to take you to the edge of insanity."

"Why do I have a feeling, you're going to sneak away with me very often, Nik?", she guessed which made Nik laugh and leaned closer to kiss her cheek again.

"Hey, why not? The desire to be with you every second of the day is so strong that I often think like that. I would sneak away with you as many times, and I promise that every one of these clandestine moments would be more amazing and thrilling than the last."

"Well Nik, if you would marry me which you don't want to anyway nobody would care what we're doing and when we're romancing. But you're not the guy who wants to get married, right.", she tried to convince him to finally marry her.

"Well, it's kinda true the idea of marrying isn't in my head at all. But I am curious if I wanted to marry you, do you think your court would approve of the union? It seems that my position of Nighthunter and yours as Duchess of Lamrian are rather..."

"Oh, they will have to!!! I'm the duchess!! I love you, Nik. Even my stepmother, Thalissa feels impressed by you. And... And if they won't then... Ugh, whatever. Nik, let's... let's just enjoy tonight. I don't want to get sad. We... We should head back inside.", she almost freaked out.

"Hey, relax. Don't get too stressed. I just want you to know, that even though I'm not the guy who thinks about getting married. But being married to you would be a dream come true.", he confessed and tenderly kissed her.

"Awww, my Nik. I love you."

"I know. And you're right, we should go back. I mean, I don't want anyone to see your beautiful neck full of red marks and people wondering what happened or what I did to you. Let's go.", he chuckled. Both hand in hand, went back to the ballroom.
