Hey :) I've only been in the fandom a few months and I mean it when I say I haven't read much Merlin fanfic (I've spent way more time here on tumblr than on AO3).
But since you asked me, personally my recommendation for a starter Merwenthur fic would be Choose and Choose and Choose by fleete.
I think it's the fic that got me actually interested in this ship in the first place, and also probably the only longish Merwenthur fic I've read (though it's only about 11k word).
You might have read it already, because it's the one Merwenthur fic I keep recommending – in which case you can skip the next few paragraphs (sorry). But I'll put another couple of links at the end if you want to check out more stuff.
fleete's fic is about the three of them getting together, and the "triggering event" is Gwen jokingly confessing to Arthur how she kissed Merlin after he almost died from drinking poison that one time. And Arthur has... an interesting reaction to that revelation.
You know when you read a fic and it just makes something click for you? This fic did so for me, and it just happens to tick many of my boxes in terms of tropes, too.
I love the characterisation; the three of them didn't feel too OOC even when they were doing things they never would in canon.
I liked the slight awkwardness around sex of Arthur and Gwen, because they're medieval 20-somethings who only recently lost their virginity to each other, and I found it realistic and also kind of endearing. I liked the tenderness and the vulnerability of it.
I liked the dynamic of the whole triad, but especially between Gwen and Merlin because in this fic it feels like their S1 friendship again and it's clear that they care about each other a lot, and in some Merwenthur I've read their relationship feels a bit like an afterthought at times, coming second to Merlin’s relationship with Arthur, or Arthur’s with Gwen.
I don't know, I guess The Vibe in this story just felt right to me, and I loved it to bits.
A lil excerpt:
Before this, Merlin was a comfortable presence at Arthur’s side. He was like Arthur’s right arm. Or maybe, more precisely, like one of Arthur’s old battle wounds: occasionally annoying, but a familiar part of his body. And now.
Merlin seems to have acquired his own body. And a pair of lips.
Lips that Gwen kissed. It’s absurd how little time it takes for his mind to spin Gwen’s original, innocent story into something more tawdry. He pictures Gwen sitting in Merlin’s lap, rubbing her thumb under his chin, pushing up until he consents to let his head fall back. Gwen would pull down Merlin’s stupid scarf, admire his Adam’s Apple, feel the beat of his pulse under her fingers, and stroke up and down his throat while Merlin breathed open-mouthed at the ceiling, probably aroused and nervous. Would Merlin be nervous? Arthur thinks so.
@merlinemrys has also published some Merwenthur fics on AO3, as well as @flight-of-fantasy, who's recently updated their Merwenthur fic. They both might have more to rec.
If you've read or will read fleete's story, I've tried my hand at a sequel, because personally I needed more.

First post. Sort of a hello.
I'm pretty sure the only people following are the ones who I followed, so not sure if anyone will see this. But that's fine. Gotta start somewhere!
So for the last year and a half, I've been developing an interest in wearing diapers. It's a longish story on how it started, but I've been wearing them on occasion over that time period. Finally talked to my boyfriend about it, and while he doesn't seem to have an interest in it(which is fine), he doesn't mind that I do it. So I figured might as well use this account for more than just looking at other guys on here.
Im personally not into the age play aspect of things, and don't consider myself an AB. Just the DL part. However, obviously no judgement to those who are AB. But I probably will be wearing some of the AB diapers, both because of quality, and becaus eit can't hurt to have some fun patterns on there.
Also, any advice will be appreciated. I've already learned some things from online, such as fluffing them, but there will probably always be more to learn. For starters, any place to order sample packs and stuff from. That way I can try out different ones. Like I was looking at wearingclouds.com, which seems to have an awesome deal where I can order all sorts of different diapers. Not sure how good that site is, but will probably order from there on Fri when I get paid. But things like that would really helpful at the beginning.
Anywho, once again, not sure if anyone would really read this, but I figured might as well start with something.

1) What’s your favorite genre to write?
I don’t know? I sort of vary between canon-typical stuff, bleak little present tense things, and humorous fic.
2) Do you pull inspiration from real-life, or do you pull things from other books/ fanfiction you’ve read?
Both. I mean, writing is such a mix of everything that’s gone into my head, real or fictional, that it’s very hard to say where anything came from, save for the few things I use deliberately (and that would usually be sneaking rl incidents in). For fanfic, I like writing for live action things, anyway, which helps having actual physical people to look at for mannerisms etc. but I don’t know if that counts as real life inspiration or not! It helps add reality, anyway.
3) Do you tend to write one-shots, short stories, or longer things?
Mostly short things, although before I was so ill, it was a mix of short and long (or longish).
4) Do you prefer to write description or dialogue?
Dialogue!
5) Favorite fic/book of all time?
Impossible question! The one I tend to come back to for the book, because I do love it, and it is very good and very layered and I have read it so many times and realised new things about it every time, is Fire & Hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones. But I don’t know if that’s strictly true. It’s so hard to tell.
And for fic, I don’t know, and I have read so many wonderful stories and almost instantly forgotten most of them, because I have a brain like a sieve. (I bookmark to make up for it, but erratically, and mostly in Doctor Who, and am then like, why do I have so little B7 fic in my bookmark library?? Why do I always forget to bookmark gifts for me in exchanges? etc.) But this is still very funny and plausible and clever - Just Impediment by Doyle which is a Blackadder/Doctor Who crossover that explains exactly what happened with Queen Elizabeth I that made her so angry in the S3 Shakespeare ep.
But I don’t know if that’s my favourite. I’ve also had some lovely gifts just for starters. It is brilliant, though, so you might as well have it instead of “I don’t know”.
6) Favorite trope?
Um. I do seem to like accidental marriage things. But that happened by accident, really.
I think my favourite thing to do with a trope is put it in Sapphire and Steel and watch them destroy it. So... trope subversion?
7) Are you the kind of person to work on more than one wip?
Yes. I mean, sometimes I’m too ill to be working on anything, but usually I will have some Rainbowfic (origfic) going, various prompt lists, an exchange fic and so on.
8) How long have you been writing for?
Since I was at least six. At that age I had a story (about a knight and a princess) published in the school magazine and a poem published in the North Devon Journal-Herald (my Grandad was proof-reader and compositor there, I was not actually a wee genius; he was just a fond Grandad), which was, as it turned out, the height of my fame and success, alas. (So much of my life peaked by age 7. It’s just as well I didn’t realise this at the time.)
9) Do you tend to write more during the morning, afternoon, or evening?
Evening. I mean, that’s due to first work, and then that’s when it works out for where I have sufficient energy (and also all night to recover) being ill.
10) Do you prefer to post and update your wip chapter by chapter, or do you prefer to wait until your wip is 100% finished before sharing it?
It’s been a while since I’ve done anything long enough to publish in installments. (Only one S&S fic, I think, since I’ve been more ill.) However, what I always used to do was make sure I had the handwritten draft almost complete, or virtually complete/plotted out, and was at least a chapter ahead of myself typing up and then post, so a sort of mix of the two. Which allowed for the fun and flexibility of interacting with readers and seeing what they reacted to/what worked and what didn’t with the possibility of tweaking future chapters without risking abandoning it.
I have one abandoned WIP (on Teaspoon) but I was writing that before I was ill. Everything else I’ve finished, even the one I started before I lost internet access for years after I left uni - I came back into fandom to finally complete it because it bugged me. (I think I’d be more ruthless now about giving it up for lost, but in general I’m a dogged finisher if nothing else. If my illness permits.)

Cracking Eggs and reinvention
So, on one of my workout pictures, someone commented on my mismatched shoes, and that got me thinking.
Those shoes are left over from before I even knew I was trans. But I think they may have been the sign of the egg cracking, if only a little bit.
For most of my life, I have bought the cheapest, simplest clothes (including shoes) I could find.
Shirts: solid color t-shirts. Occasionally a short sleeve button down. In winter, mostly the same with a button down long-sleeved shirt worn as a jacket. (For the month or so it's actually cold, I'd wear an axctual coat on top of that.)
Pants: Shorts most of the year. Jeans when necessary to keep from freezing.
Shoes: The cheapest white sneakers I could get.
But six years ago, it ws time for me to get new shoes. And I went to Target, then something inside me said "No." I didn't want to buy ugly white shoes. And cheap shoes wear out so fast, maybe it would be worth the money to buy something decent. And I wanted something bright. Something colorful.
So I went to a shoe store. And I saw a pair of red Nikes and I tried them on. They were perfect. They were also three times more expensive than my previous shoes. I had just about convinced myself it was okay to buy them, when I noticed a blue pair that were otherwise identical. I thought, "I could get those and wear one of each color." But I definitely was not going to spend six times the cost of my previous shoes. So I just bought the red ones.
At work, people commented on my shoes. They liked them. I tend to try to fade into the background, but I liked this. I kept thinking about the blue shoes, though. I really liked the idea of wearing one of each. After a couple of months, I finally convinced myself it would be okay to get them. After all, with two pair, they'd last twice as long. So I bought them.
For a month and a half, I wore the blue shoes. I wanted to keep the wear even between the two pair. Once they felt the same, I started wearing one of each. I got a lot of comments. Some people were confused. Others just thought it was neat. I liked that. I'm crap at approaching people, but I like conversation. This was an automatic conversation starter.
From then until I transitioned, I wore shoes of two different colors. When those started getting a little ratty, I bought another two pair. Sadly, I couldn't find the same ones, and the next ones were much blockier. Still, wearing shoes like that was a way to stand out, a little.
I'm keeping my eyes open for some women's shoes that I can do something similar with. I do have a red pair and a plack pair of sneakers of the same make, but tI haven't worn them together. I haven't found an outfit that that feels right with. It might still happen, though.
Somehow all tht feels like an expression of the fact that I knew I wanted something different. A way to break out of the rut I'd trapped myself in. It wasn't the first time, though.
Back just before the turn of the century (I'm old, remember), I decided I needed a change. My clothes were as described above. My hair was longish and unstyled. Just a short cut that I let grow out. I needed to change. I couldn't change the way I wanted to (or so I thought), so I did something else.
I cut my hair. I bought a few pair of slacks, some decent shirts. I didn't go for ties. I wasn't crazy, after all. But I did get some comfortable dress shoes. At the time I was a working as a supervisor of a tech support team for a major computer company. My team was really confused when they came in January 2nd, 1999, and saw me. One of my team members was actually worried. He took me aside and asked if they were making me do this.(The supervisor title was still new, I'd been a lead before that). I assured him that it was of my own free will.
For a little while , it felt good. I enjoyed the change. But it wasn't what I was looking for, and after a half year or so I drifted back into old habits.
There's not really a point to all of this. I just needed to write something to distract me from some other stuff that I can't write about here. That, and remind myself that I am happy so much of the time now. I can deal with the crap that life throws at me, because I get to be me.

Ninety percent of the time I just get carried away or I’m setting up something. I really don’t want that to be a deterrent to interacting with my muses...! If I toss you a wordy reply, please don’t feel like you have to match my word count! It really, really doesn’t bother me if I get a shorter reply back to one of my longer ones, and I really don’t want anyone to feel pressured about that??

The Last Jedi Rant (SPOILER WARNING)
Oh my...
So...
I’ll admit it’s been a few hours since I left the theater, so I already am fuzzy on a few things, but there are criticisms I have of the movie, both plot and the actual filming. Get ready, this’ll be a longish one and it’s kinda gonna go all over the place. Bear with me.
OH! And before I start tearing this thing apart, let me first say that the soundtrack was spectacular and fit the movie amazingly, and visually it was gorgeous.
SO FOR THE PLOT: Okay, so there were things I liked; I liked the first probably... ten minutes? Space battle was good, but seriously, what was up with those bombers? Their design was so flawed in so many ways, from the fact they were large and cumbersome to the fact they had to be directly over their target for them to be able to drop their payload. Now, I’ll admit I’m basing my opinion off of Star Wars Battlefront II (2005) so it might not be entirely accurate, but Y-Wing bombers were much more maneuverable, had a rear gunner, and did NOT have to be directly over their target to perform their bombing runs. I know the Resistance wasn’t exactly, you know, well stocked with a massive fleet and whatnot, but I feel like if they had X-Wings and A-Wings at their disposal, they should be able to get their hands on some Y-Wings. OH YEAH, AND WHEN THEY WERE DROPPING THEIR PAYLOADS THEY HAD A FRICKIN’ REMOTE CONTROL BUTTON ON A HANDHELD REMOTE? AND WHEN THEY OPENED THEIR BAY DOORS THE MEMBERS IN THE BAY WEREN’T CAUGHT IN A VACUUM AND SUCKED INTO SPACE?? Also, what happened to X-Wings having Proton Torpedoes...? All in all, if the Resistance is able to have X-Wings, A-Wings, the same sort of Medical Frigate, etc., then they should be able to have B-Wing Fighters.
Okay, continuing on.
So, Snoke’s ship was the one tracking the Resistance Fleet, right? That’s the whole big thing? Snoke’s ship wasn’t at the initial encounter, so how’d they get a lock on the ships in order to track them? And it wasn’t even the first ship to catch up in the second encounter? Seems a lil off to me.
I did like how Kylo Ren was flyin’ round, messin’ up the ships. I liked how he blew up all the Resistance fighters. I understood why he hesitated in destroying the bridge and his two fighters following him ended up doin’ it. BUT HERE’S MY PROBLEM WITH THE LATTER: LEIA SHOULD BE DEAD. SHE HAS NOT BEEN TRAINED ENOUGH TO HAVE SOME SORT OF ABILITY TO CREATE A FORCE BUBBLE THAT WOULD SAVE HER FROM DEATH IN SPACE. I mean, for starters, that bridge BLEW UP. MASSIVE EXPLOSION! How was she whole? And how, again, did she get back into the ship without the doors opening causing a vacuum and sucking others into space? Also, we never knew that that was Admiral Ackbar on the bridge until they were like “Oh, we lost Ackbar”, and then he was never mentioned again! That just seemed... weird? And back to the hangar exploding. Flynn and Rose definitely able to find another ship so they could fly to the Casino place, right? And their were like... visually, it looked to me kinda like 20ish smaller freighter ships somewhere in that ship? So like, did they have NO OTHER FIGHTERS IN ANY OTHER HANGARS, ‘CAUSE THAT JUST SEEMS STUPID TACTICALLY!
Okay, so, another thing: The TIMING of the whole movie was off. So, ship gets attacked, has 18 hours of fuel left, right? In the time of 18 hours, Flynn and Rose was able to fly all the way to another planet, spend time there, fly back, and then spend time on Snoke’s ship? And then, other side of the spectrum, Rey spend DAYS on Luke’s planet. I understand that I don’t know that planets night and day cycle, but for her to spend DAYS on that planet, and then fly all the way to Snoke’s ship within the ship’s 18 hour fuel limit? No.
SNOKE WAS SO RIDICULOUSLY STUPID! He was worse than Palpatine, and I’m not talking in a “Oh, he was so much worse than Palpatine, he did so many horrible things” sort of way. He was supposed to be this incredible villain, super powerful, right? Yet he was less of threat realistically than Palpatine was. I mean, compare the Snoke-Kylo-Rey situation to the Palpatine-Vader-Luke situation: Palpatine ALMOST KILLED LUKE whereas we never saw Snoke do anything but sit. His confidence in his invincibility and his trust in Kylo Ren’s loyalty was ridic. Palpatine knew Vader would try to kill him one day to try and take his place and Snoke didn’t even seem to consider it a possibility.
Lightsaber Hilts do NOT explode and you cannot convince me otherwise.
How did BB-8 get into an ATST, which you have to enter from the top?
How did Rey get to Snoke’s Personal Escape ship and then to Falcon so fast?
I thought that there was a lot of hype because Phasma was going to have more of a role in this film, but I’m pretty sure she was in it for MAYBE the same amount of time as in The Force Awakens? And I thought they were going to make the BB-9E more of an important droid, like maybe even Kylo Ren’s personal droid? That droid was barely relevant in the slightest.
Did DJ make it off Snoke’s ship? We never actually saw him leave.
Those ridic “speeders” the Resistance had? Those were busted, converted B-Wings. Why not have ACTUAL B-WINGS? You know, actual fighters that could put up a fight?
How did Yoda, A FORCE GHOST, have the ability to produce a lightning storm that lit an ancient Jedi Location (which probably had some sort of Jedi protection on it (I mean, how else would it have been undetected by Palpatine, Vader, Snoke, Kylo Ren, etc. for all those years)). And if he could do that, how could he not have helped Luke all those years ago with Vader and Palpatine?
And I can kind of believe Luke being able to Force Project himself across the galaxy, but only because he’s spend years and years alone, meditating, and he’s definitely the strongest person in the galaxy at that point in the force (though in that case, I feel like Jedi in the past should have been able to do this and we should have seen it before (again, like Yoda)). But Rey and Kylo doin’ it? No. Even if Snoke took credit for doin’ it with them, it continued on after his death, and I doubt that either of them (at least not Rey) would have that sort of ability.
And if Admiral Holdo had a plan to save everybody, why then would she keep it a secret from like... everybody? That helps absolutely no one strategically.
Rose went from like... thinking of Flynn as a hero, then thinking he’s a traitor and a coward, then she suddenly trusts him again and basically skips friendship and goes straight into falling in love with him? Not impossible, I guess, but seems strange.
That’s everything I can think of on the fly, but trust me, there’s more. Only other thing I’m going to say is that if they try to kill of Leia off screen in the next movie, they’re gonna have a tough time of it, even if they try and just leave her clothes in a room and say she passed and became one with the force (which it seems like only incredibly gifted Jedi have been able to do (But apparently she’s awesome enough to save herself from an explosion and space, so who knows!)).
So, filming-wise:
They tried too hard. I feel like they tried to fit way too much into one film, and it’s a film that took way much from Empire Strikes Back. Trailers are saying “Best Star Wars movie since Empire Strikes Back”? That’s because in so many ways it’s the meme of “Let me copy your work” and then shows a product that’s almost exactly like the first example.
Movie starts off with the evacuation of a Resistance Base. They made changed it from the ships escaping with cover from an Ion Cannon on the planet, but it’s basically the same. And they took the Ground Battle of Hoth and threw it into the last part of the movie (Which by the way, when they mentioned they had speeders at the base, I thought they were going to pull out some T-47 Airspeeders and was sorely disappointed by their B-Wing wannabes). Rey’s “training” by Luke was done on a remote planet, where there was life and there was also a place incredibly made up by the Dark Side. And Luke was just as reluctant to training her as Yoda was initially to train Luke.
The Studio seems to be trying to show off “Hey, here are some new characters you’ll love alongside all of the original heroes that you fell in love with!” but how many scenes have they used Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2 in? Chewbacca was literally in a scene eating, but otherwise he was literally just around to cart Rey around, R2-D2 was only around to convince Luke to train Rey (Won’t lie, I did like him pulling the old Leia hologram for Obi-Wan to convince Luke (Though, continuity-wise, the hologram didn’t move when his projector moved, so that bothered me)), and C-3PO was legit only there for people to yell at for comic relief. OH! And why’d they even have DJ in there? They kept talkin’ ‘bout a Codebreaker that hung out in a Casino and I just kept thinking “Lando? Is Lando Calrissian gonna show up?”. They really missed an opportunity with that if they’re wanting to show off all the old actors reprising their old roles.
Speaking of comic relief, there were too many attempts at throwing in cute and funny moments. Parts of the banter between characters seemed more like Marvel’s Avengers than Star Wars. They even threw a “your mom” joke in there. And the Porgs? They were adorable, I won’t lie, but they were added in literally to make the audience go “AWWWWWW”. At least Ewoks had a role in Return of the Jedi.
Do not get me started on how bad the Yoda looked and how corporeal he apparently was, despite being a Force Ghost. Just don’t get me started...
Disney is, in my opinion, trying to milk the franchise, and they’re attempting to make their movies gigantic films that people will want to come and see because they’re huge and fantastic. They’re forgetting that Star Wars was already huge. Star Wars wan’t completely like huge movie franchises, like Marvel’s Avengers. They’re trying to modernize them for the younger generation, which I understand, but in doing so they’re also turning it into something much different than it was.

Storytime: D&D fun with teens
Hey everybody, this is a longish post about me having some fun with a new D&D group (@bywandandsword shame you're so far away, I think you might fit right in!). It doesn't really have a point I think. Also there's mention of fictional violence. Read on if you're curious :-)
Okay so my wonderful husband has recently given my oldest daughter a D&D starter kit for her 13th birthday. In English, because he ordered the German version before her birthday in June and it still hasn’t arrived. They tried it out on their own first, she picked one of the default characters (human fighter, lawful good), and he modified the starter campaign to fit one player. She was given a quest, got promptly ambushed by two goblins on her way, killed one of them pretty thoroughly (oh those dice rolls) and made the other give her some crucial bits of information before he escaped with an arrow in his shoulder. Thus ended her first taste of paper-dice adventuring, and she liked it a lot.
All of us felt that a bigger group would be very nice to have, so my husband told her to go find some players. She got her two best friends to join (12 and 13 years old). I needed to discuss my personal issues regarding D&D with my hubby (slaying dragons, generally slaying everything, racist caricatures, stories catering to a male audience yadda yadda), who fortunately feels much the same about these things and intends to mitigate them wherever possible (he already genderswapped a bunch of people in the starter campaign). So she also asked me to join her group and I am very honoured!
We’ve had two afternoons of play so far, and it was so much fun. We didn’t get very far the first time around because we spent a LOT of time explaining basic concepts, choosing a default character for everybody, and then translating all the stuff on everyone’s character sheets. (While my daughter’s English is sufficient for most of that, the other two are struggling and STRUGGLING.) Basically we followed a not very long trail and found the entrance to the goblins' hideout, managing to dodge two (crude) traps on the way. We each got 75 experience points for this accomplishment (and we all glowed).
So yesterday, we were this raggle taggle group standing in front of a cave entrance, with no plan or strategy and none in sight, BUT we had a mage character, played by my daughter's friend and parabatai (read: fellow die-hard Cassandra Clare fan) who had JUST learnt about her spells – we only got around to translating those on the second round, because it's a lot to read and understand and while I've dabbled in roleplaying games myself many years ago, I've never played D&D before and needed to study the rulebook for a bit. And do you know what happens when a teenage fantasy fandom girl learns that her character can do magic? Yes, exactly. The moment the scouting rogue reported two goblins talking in the brambles near the cave entrance, she had her character rush forward and cast Burning Hands on the whole area. (While cackling madly, at least in my imagination.) And what does she do when only one of the goblins is charred to cinders, and the other puts his burning hair out in the convenient stream between them, and proceeds to aim his shortbow at her? Right, she runs straight at him and fries him with her Shocking Grasp. To death, because magic.
And then she, that is, the actual girl sitting in our living room, spent the next fifteen minutes or so with an absolutely MANIC PIXIE GRIN on her face and a faint "oooooooooooohhhh let me storm in and I'll burn the whole place down" – "we have to rescue someone in there" – "but but but" – "AND YOU ONLY HAVE TWO SPELL SLOTS FOR THE ENTIRE DAY AND HAVE JUST USED UP ONE OF THEM!" – "… magiiiiic… I can do magiiiiic…" (entire group facepalms, but grins) (By the way it was mostly my daughter talking her down, hehe.)
It's really fun, and nice, to play with these girls though. I'm a little torn between letting them make their own mistakes, thus not being a Boring Adult (or worse, a Condescending Adult), and not getting our group wiped ;-) but as I ended up with the Dwarf Cleric, I'll be the one healing people up anyway. Of course, I also only have two Level 1 spell slots! And I used up one of them so I could cast a Blessing on three of us (which was a Good Idea that our fabulous DM kindly reminded me of). I had a moment there when he asked me to actually act that blessing spell out, call on my deity etc., when I complained that I still didn't know my assigned deity grumblegrumble – but I quickly reminded myself that "o Great Light" will do in a pinch for any healer. (And it did. Plus my husband later alerted me to the fact that everything was actually written on the back of my character sheet – I had been so busy studying and translating everyone's stuff that I had missed much of my own! A lesson in humility, all good.)
We can't play next weekend as my husband is on the road, which we all regretfully accepted. When we play in two weeks time, however, this will be the longest time I've played any table top game with any group. That's pretty cool :-) I may very well write some more about this, because it's so much fun and I haven't even started on the halfling rogue with fabulous, thick, bright green hair and a hood to hide it all. Yay D&D, and playing with friends!

sachiko 'about' post, aka, if this doesn't appear under a read more i accept being killed
would your oc know sachiko?
you know when two highly famous people appear to get together, and then those famous people wind up with a child who becomes famous by association, and THEN that child heaps on more fame by going off and doing something themselves?
anyway, even if you know nothing about badminton, unless you live under a rock it's kinda hard to miss hearing about sachiko mori if you have your eyes open like at all.
buckle up this section's longish.
for starters, sachiko's mother is rina mori; formerly a beloved idol in the group WL❤️Y (one of those groups with a metric fuckton of members compared to any typical sized girl group, and brings in new members for replacements when older ones leave), she took herself below the radar for a few years upon her choosing to leave to enjoy a more private life before resurfacing as a film actress, a profession which she began to flourish in and make a respectable, post-idol life for herself in dramas that she still holds today. she also had a partner who was much less out there than his wife, on the level of always being captioned as 'and her husband' with his real name being shoved in the middle of some wikipedia paragraph, though it was quietly reported that the two had split shortly after the birth of their child sachiko due to believing he was incapable of living in this continued spotlight.
rina's current 'partner' is misaki watanabe, a rather big name film director for dramas (quotes because rina and misaki have never officially confirmed that they're together or anything of the sort, but it's an assumption some find easy to make, especially due to their penchant to showing up together at film premieres with sachiko in tow and regularly being seen together outside of work). she's famous in name, mostly, as behind the scenes film people tend to be; not recognisable to the every day person, but you expect to hear their name on award nominations and tend to nod understandingly at posters with their name on in the vein of 'a [insert name] film'.
(if your oc is the kind of person to dig more into these kinds of fields with super big questions, hit me up and i can shoot you some more specific deets. her guardians are pretty damn famous, tbh, so that's chill.)
SACHIKO HERSELF THEN. at first she was merely a famous child, life in a spotlight since before she was really born; showing up with rina at film premieres in a tiny dress before she even properly knew how to talk and such, cropping up in film set photos with misaki, that kind of thing throughout all the years of her life thus far. she got into badminton young though, playing primarily singles and winning a fair number of smaller tournaments (first inter-school ones that were dutifully reported locally, and then some bigger ones that went a bit further), and currently holds the record for the youngest person ever to win the badminton junior world championship gold- something which gave her a massive amount of attention in the sporting world. from this it's been long rumoured that sachiko's going to be receiving an invitation to join the japanese national badminton team, if she's not a member already, and is a prime contender to represent japan whenever the next olympics past her graduation rolls around.
she's not amazingly sheltered, considering. if one of her guardians is with her and someone's been pressing a little too much they may sweep her off with a smile and 'that's enough now'. but somehow only a few people have cracked that sachiko is very forthcoming with talking when pressed by herself, and that's allowed now she's older. she's been open for public attention since she was a goddamn baby basically you have QUITE POSSIBLY seen her. nothing bad or embarrassing thus far at least, she's always come across remarkably cheerful and enjoying of it all.
honestly if your oc isn't that deep into sport, they may know sachiko exclusively for being rina and misaki's charge. there's enough publications that open with her being described as their daughter before actually saying she won a big badminton tournament or something, anyway, how's her being away going to affect rina showing up for the premiere tonight?
also she travels a lot, but sachiko is primarily based in tokyo, because of course she fucking is

in an amazing turn of events, i'm going to say from the outset that sachiko- is likely shippable! i much prefer ships that just kinda happen naturally if we discover that our ocs just kinda gel (this goes for all relations tbfh), but yes, she's open to being shipped with. she has no particular leaning.
(also: i'm 21 years old, and i'm not gonna write the Nasty with minors.)

sachiko mori is a girl that develops crushes on people VERY, VERY EASILY. she drops them as soon as she knows a person is taken, but the fact remains. i'm never going to push for anything to actually HAPPEN on the back of these unless we're Both Really Feeling It so to speak, and she's not the type to aggressively come on to someone or anything (honestly her behaviour won't even noticeably change) but the fact remains.
regardless if you're uncomfy with sachik crushing on your character at all please let me know ! it's nbd honestly i would rather people be comf.

A Zippity Doo Dah Day
As been the norm for this vacation, we were up early. We always worry about oversleeping, never want to be too late for breakfast and have had scheduled activities a lot of mornings. Saturday was our final trip “add on” and girl, it was a doozy!
The winds were so scary during the night. We do not know how the folks living here can stand it and worried if it would impact our plans. Also being at a higher elevation, we layered up. A medium sized bus picked up a full load and took us back through town and back on to the bumpy unpaved roads to Selvatura Adventure Park.
They emptied us out in to the ticketing area where there were four longish lines and they kept announcing to people to have their vouchers or receipts ready to exchange for passes. Of course we had neither, thanks to the terrible lack of communication from Exottica travel. Once we were the counter, we told the guy we had nothing. He asked our first names, checked the computer and handed us our tickets. This country loves going by first names and not last names.
We felt a bit like cattle being herded to market but I think we were among the first groups to arrive and they want to get us going before we had a chance to change our minds or get nervous. (The former wasn’t going to happen but the nervous bit had been building since we booked the trip!) Properly fitted with harnesses galore, a helmet, and heavy duty gloves, off we went to the zip lines! Yes, to zip line.
They took a beginning photo of us before we boarded the bus to take us up to the start of the zip line course and they took photos of us on a platform and along two of the zip lines. Of course I totally forgot to “look left and smile” at number whatever and they didn’t remind us before sliding off so I look worried and serious in almost all of the photos.
After the short bus ride, we had to hike up to the instruction area where we were shown where and how our hands should remain on the line. We did not have to ever clip on or un-clip anything. There were guys (yes, all guys) at every platform, doing all of that. We, nor they, were ever not hooked to either a zip line or one of the ropes around the trees. They never faltered in their professionalism and performance of their duties and I never witnessed them joking around. I felt very safe.
It was fun but just slightly uncomfortable on my legs. We both had to keep tightening our helmets because the wind would catch them a bit and they would tilt back. There was also, surprisingly, right much hiking between platforms. Oh, and speaking of the wind, except for on the final zip line, which was over one kilometer long, did we feel any. I think the mountain and trees shielded us.
I tried to remember to look around but then it would be time to think about landing on the next platform. They had a built-in braking system so we were not levied with that responsibility, thank God! The only thing was the loud “clank” of the brake right above your head every time which was always startling but surprisingly, it did not jerk you. (When my “copy editor” read this, she said, “Speak for yourself!”)
Janet says she never remembered to look around. There were two of the lines, including the final one, where we went in tandem because the extra weight was needed so we did not stall out along the way and have to be rescued. At the final platform, we all had to wait until everyone was in and we watched several retrievals. A staff member would hook on, slide out, wrap his legs around them and then come back backwards hand-over-hand. I am sure those guys have nice six-packs!
And just like that, it was over. We had survived! Woo hoo!! And of course we had to take off all of our equipment and pass through the photo sale area before getting to the locker where we had stored our camera. We did not buy the souvenir packet but paid $20 ($10 per person is how they worded it) for electronic access to about 240 photos they took of us in action.
Even though we had worn several layers of clothing, we had otherwise packed very lightly, not realizing there would be lockers available so we didn’t have snacks with us. We were a captive audience and had to eat at their restaurant which had the slowest service ever for just two bowls of chicken tortilla soup and positively sloth-like delivery of Janet’s coffee! But we needed some nutrition because we still had to walk their hanging bridges course.
In hindsight, we wished we had paid for a guided walk — not that we had that option when booking this excursion. We walked the entire course and saw nothing. This was the right time of the year to see the quetzal and hard as we tried, we could not find one. We probably heard them from time to time because we heard a beautiful birdsong but with only my camera and not super-duper birdwatching binoculars, we had no luck in spotting them. Near the end, we caught up to four seasoned birdwatchers from England who of course had seen not only the quetzal but also another beauty, the bell bird. Lesson learned.....and more fodder for our evaluation form at the end of the trip.
For the return trip to town, we could catch any bus that was leaving. We thought we had to wait for the 3pm run but at 2:30 a bus pulled up so we hopped on and rode it in to town and then walked again up to our hotel.

We took TripAdvisor’s advice and booked a table at the number one rated restaurant, which happened to be in a hotel not far from our own. A little higher and further west than us, we timed it so we could watch the sunset while walking there, but not before we stopped by the cafe for a cocktail and a refreshing glass of mint lemonade. With a high enough vantage point in Monteverde, in the distance, you can see The Gulf of Nicoya, positioned and shaped very much like our Chesapeake Bay. The sunset was pretty spectacular.
In the reviews of the restaurant, people had recommended arriving early in order to walk the beautiful grounds of the hotel. So we did that but oh, how we wished we had been staying there. Beautifully landscaped, taking full advantage of the hillside it was built on, there were designated reading, meditation and yoga areas and a butterfly garden. Just when it was almost completely dark, I looked ahead and saw a critter sitting on its haunches in the middle of the walkway. I had no idea what it was but looked it up later and it was an agouti, another animal new to me and a word that could come in handy one day in Scrabble. (Too dark to photographic but this is what an agouti looks like.)
Well, I am not sure about El Jardin’s position on Trip Advisor because there were only two other tables occupied. It was still a little early for non-American diners or maybe the the Collette and Tauck groupies are skewing their ratings. We ordered a charcuterie board to share as a starter, particularly because we wanted to try the local cheese. We waited and waited. We knew the dairy was just down the road but a charcuterie board should not take long to prepare. Then, as you have already guessed, our entrees arrived. When we asked about the appetizer, she said her English was not good. The menu did not have any Spanish words listed for charcuterie or appetizer, as we would have tried to use them so that was not a translation issue. When she finally understood, poor thing was horrified and got permission from her manager to comp the entire meal! However, we insisted on paying for our entrees (J had tenderloin with blackberry and coffee sauce; I had beef on a sugar cane skewer.) But Janet accepted a glass of wine and we let her buy us dessert (ice cream cake with and without chocolate rum sauce) with ice cream from the local dairy which was quickly delivered. It must have come on a zip line!

Fic: A Helping Hand From Beyond (1/?)
I said I would post the start of something new tonight, so here it is. I’ve been sitting on this one for a while.

Summary: “You know, sometimes the deceased stay with us, waiting until they’re sure we’ve moved on before they can move on themselves. Giving us a helping hand from beyond, as it were.”
When Gloria Rush and Rum Gold meet one cold October morning, they quickly come to the realisation that they share a common goal – to help those they left behind in life to move on and find happiness again. Using what little means available to them, the two lost souls team up to ensure their widows’ future, and find their own peace.
Rumbelle, Rushbelle, Gloria/Nick.
Rated: T for now, but it might go up in later chapters. I have not yet decided.

A Helping Hand From Beyond
Chapter One
Two Meetings
There is a man sitting in her seat. Gloria tilts her head on one side, sizing him up. Late forties, early fifties, a few years older than her Nicholas. Clean-shaven with longish hair: brown fading to grey at the tips and temples. He is sitting very still, unnervingly still, legs apart like all men with a degree of self-confidence about the size of their package, gold-handled cane resting between his knees, hands clasped in his lap.
She doesn’t begrudge him the seat. It is there to be sat on, after all. She has no special claim to it. But usually her very presence is enough to keep people away. Even the least psychically inclined can still sense someone watching them from the other side, and it is a sensation that unnerves most. It just so happens that this particular seat gives her the best view of Nicholas’s office window, the best vantage point from which to look out for him. She could sit right there in the room with him if she wanted, but she prefers not to get too close. She doesn’t like to crowd him, to, well, haunt him. He needs his space, just as he always did in life, and Gloria respects that. She just likes to keep an eye on him. Make sure he’s ok. Make sure he’s still eating and sleeping, even if he is subsisting on caffeine most of the time. She won’t deny that it was hard in those first few months after she passed and woke into this new… it can’t really be called a life, more a plane of existence. She spent so many long nights sitting here, watching the light in the window of his office as he worked and worked and worked to bury his grief, and she could only watch him, unable to console him as she so desperately wanted to do.
Gloria pushes the thought away; she doesn’t want to dwell on those first few painful months. They do say that the only death you can never recover from, never get over, is your own, but it has taken Nicholas such a long time.
Presently the man looks up and looks Gloria straight in the eyes, startling her.
“Can I help you?” he asks.
Gloria looks around but there is no-one else to whom he could feasibly be speaking.
“Me?” she squeaks eventually.
The man nods.
“I do believe you’re the only one who can see me. And I do believe I’m the only one who can see you.”
There’s no doubt of it now, and Gloria wonders why she didn’t see it before. She’s had so little contact with others of her kind that she can’t recognise one right in front of her. But she sees the telltale hallmarks now. He seems fainter than the other shapes that move around them in the early morning light as the campus slowly comes to life. He makes no impression on the world, because he’s only half here, half moved on. He’s dead like her, watching over his unfinished business until his loved ones move on, and allow him to move on, too.
“You’re in my seat,” Gloria says, not the best conversation starter but the first sentence that pops into her head in the circumstances. She expects some kind of dry retort, but instead the man simply slides over on the bench and indicates for her to sit beside him. Gloria curses her own obtuseness because she could have simply sat next to him on the bench before, but she takes the offered seat anyway.
“Thank you.”
They sit in silence for a while.
“I’ve not seen you here before,” Gloria says presently, by way of small talk, but there is deeper meaning behind it because there has to be a reason why he is suddenly here. Why they are both here in this same spot.
“I moved recently. From Maine. California is new territory for me.” There’s another pause. “Raymond Gold. Heart attack, three years ago.” He holds out a hand which Gloria shakes.
“Gloria Rush. Bone cancer, two and a half years ago.”
It’s a brutal introduction, but a standard one amongst their sort. They’re both dead before their time or else they wouldn’t be here, so there’s no sense in skirting the issue. Introductions made, they sit in silence for a while longer.
“Who are you looking out for?” Gloria asks eventually.
“My wife,” Gold replies. “She needed to get away from it all, from all the memories in Maine. So eventually she cut all the ties and moved here. She’s working in the college library, taking some classes on the side. You?”
“My husband’s a professor. Astrophysics.”
“My wife expressed an interest in astrophysics,” Gold muses. “She was an English major, library science post-grad. She said that if she was having a fresh start then she wanted to have a part of her life, however small, not taken up with books.”
Something’s going to happen. Gloria can feel it. Why else would they both be here, in this exact spot at this exact same time? And as she sees Nicholas wander down the street absorbed in his notebook, and a lovely young woman with rich chestnut curls and her nose in a book coming in the other direction, she knows exactly what’s about to happen and why they’re there to see it.
It’s about to begin, the event that they’ve both been waiting for, and all she and Gold have to do is wait and watch and, maybe, just maybe, lend a little helping hand to make sure that everything continues on its path as it should.
She turns to Gold.
“That’s her, isn’t it?” she asks at the same time as he says “that’s him, isn’t it?” and they both know where they stand, and they share a wide smile.
This is the opportunity that they have been waiting for – Gloria here in California and Gold up in Maine. It’s almost time to move on. Almost time for that journey to begin.
So Gloria and Gold watch on tenterhooks as Nicholas Rush and Belle Gold bump into each other outside the University of California math and physics department, neither looking where they’re going, and notebook pages flutter to the ground and takeaway cup lids fly off and tea and coffee is spilled down shirts and skirts. Gloria groans, burying her head in her hands, because this really isn’t a very auspicious start for her poor husband. Beside her, Gold just chuckles.
“Oh Belle,” he says fondly. “Never change, sweetheart.”
Apologies are exchanged and the first contact is made as the two scrabble for notebook pages. So far, so good.
“Part of me feels like we ought to be eating popcorn,” Gloria muses as Belle hands the fallen papers back to Rush and they get up off the pavement, taking in each other’s beverage-stained clothing.
“If I wasn’t so concerned with watching how this plays out, I would offer to go and get some,” Gold agrees. “I suppose there’s little hope that it’ll all work as well as it does in the cinema and we’ll go straight from meet-cute to declarations of undying love?”
Gloria snorts. “You’ve obviously never met Nicholas,” she mutters, and Gold smiles.
“Belle’s very impulsive, but not usually in that way,” he concedes, and Gloria turns her attention back to the two figures on the street in front of her outside the physics building.
“Dr Rush, isn’t it?” Belle begins. “I was in your lecture on black hole theory the other day. It was fascinating.”
Rush nods. “Thanks.”
Gloria scrubs the heel of her hand over her forehead. “Is that all you’re going to say, Nicholas? Really?”
“I, erm, I’m sorry about your coffee,” Belle continues, looking at the dark stain down his white shirt.
“It’s ok.” Rush takes in her own dirtied clothing and looks away hastily when he realises, unbidden, that her little floral skirt is actually quite short. “I’m sorry about yours.”
“Let me get you a fresh one,” Belle says.
“No, really, it’s ok. I should be going, I have a class.”
“Yes, yes, of course.” Belle opens her mouth as if she’s going to say something, but no words come out. “I’ll let you get on,” she finally finishes, and they stand there for a moment before each giving an awkward cough and hurrying away in opposite directions.
Gloria lets out a long sigh and leans back against the bench, closing her eyes.
“You know,” Gold remarks, “I think they’re going to need a bit of help.”
“Tell me something I don’t know,” Gloria mutters. She finally opens her eyes as Nicholas enters his office and sets his now empty coffee cup on the desk. She expects him to look at his many whiteboards or launch straight into his equations, but instead he looks down at his coffee-stained shirt.
For the first time in far too long a time, Nicholas smiles. Just a small smile quirking at the corner of his lips, but a genuine smile nonetheless, and Gloria has to give a smile of her own. Progress has been made, at least. Belle has left an impression, although the extent of it remains to be seen.
