“um yea!” that was way too enthusiastic, you clear your throat, “yea me and my parents just moved here a few days ago.”

“why would you call yourself pogues? it doesnt sound very nice.” your face is screwed up as he drives you back to your home, it’s dawning on him that that he may have just saved a sweet kitten like you from the lion’s den.

“it just is what it is, people like us dont exactly have a pool house.” he pointedly nods at the massive building behind your main house, “besides, im just happen to give you a real warm welcome, not everyone’s as nice as we are.” he can tell youre still confused. “kooks sweetheart, the upper crust in figure 8– thas technically what you are, with the pool house and all.”

“oh…but that doesnt mean we cant hang out does it?”

“oh fuck no are you kiddin me? just means we have to hang out more so you dont get corrupter by anyone other than me.” he teases. “just let me know what youre doin tomorrow aight? ill come pick you up”

this time you cant contain yourself and you give him a kiss on the cheek, yelling “bye jj!” as you run up your driveway, too giddy to look back.

unfortunately the next day, you dont get to see jj. instead your stuck on the golf course with your dad as he schmoozes with a man named ward cameron.

you dont pay much attention to what theyre talking about, instead choosing to listen to music and daydream about what you’d rather be doing.

“ah there’s my son! a whole half hour late just as i expected, glad to see you could join us rafe.” ward’s mention of his son just made you huff and roll your eyes, you could only handle so many bratty kooks— you were starting to see what jj was talking about.

“it’s nice to meet you son, this is my daughter.” you lift your head prepared to plaster another fake smile on your face when your freeze.

you weren’t expecting rafe to be so hot. and i guess he wasn’t expecting you to be either.

dumbly, you reach out to shake his hand, “nice to meet you rafe.”

before he can respond, ward speaks out, “hey rafe, why dont you take her to that party you were talkin about later?”

i dont ship juliayne (juliayne shippers i do not hate you please do your thing i love you), but goddamn i want more interactions between theyre sooooo silly

ep 13: listen, i think wayne winning is fine. do i love himbos? yes. was i rooting for him in the finale? yes. in the grand scheme of things, do i think he is a good finalist? no. we can all agree that hes very much an owen, and i dont mind that!! i actually think having a fan favorite, comic relief, underdog third party winning makes sense in this season, because i dont think caleb or julia winning would be a satisfying end (especially how they were handling them by the end)

caleb's story was messy, and at the end of the day (and i know that the intentions changed), he did start his alliance with priya to use her. him winning, after all of the drama, after priya was gone, wouldve just idk felt shitty. he did get the girl in the end, which concludes his story better than him winning it. (if im comparing this to the tdi 2007 final three,, i guess hes the gwen)

as for julia, she had two seasons to be villain, and it was amazing. she is so good at what she does and she is such a joy to watch. and we all know how total drama handles its villains, they need to get their comeuppance. did bowie double cross her last season? yes. and she came back still was the main villain and was AMAZING at it. but she was still the villain for another 13 episodes, AND HER GETTING PRIYA OUT LAST EPISODE, she cant win. was her just desserts satisfying? meh. nice callback to heather (we all know julia is the heather of this comparison), though i can understand people who dont like this callback and think its tiring or something. they couldve done something else, but im not mad (i kinda fuck with the mullet). i just see no satisfying way for julia to win with how she was presented in these seasons: she was not world tour heather, with three full length seasons and a greater threat to overcome; she was island heather, and therefore could not win.

overall thoughts of the season:

im someone that thinks the hockey bros jokes nearly always land, so i enjoy the shit out of them (i think im in the majority?)

im someone that did not like priyaleb at first, grew to being more neutral about it, but still found it to be a bit tiring. i like priya, i like caleb, i dont like tiring romantic subplots, and it sucks that that was the entire thing for these characters this season

the julia mk duo was AMAZING, one of the highlights of this season and one that i never wouldve expected to be real. mkulia wins in my heart and i hope they start their podcast (JULIA WAS GOIGN TO USE THE MONEY TO START THE PODCAST WITH MK HOLY SHIT GIRL IS IN LOVE)

it sucks that certain characters really got nothing this season (millie, nichelle, emma, and even axel to an extent).. but i get that characters like millie and emma already had a lot of screentime last time and someone has to be an early boot (just realize the ones i listed off were all women,, damn the writers fr just hate women)

at the end of the day, i really enjoyed this season. and i think the most important part of that enjoyment was this was the first time i got to watch a season and have no idea what was going to unfold. i watched the first four season of total drama when they were airing, but i was a little kid with poor comprehension skills. the first three seasons aired before i knew how to read (i learned to read late). and with tdpi, rr, and tdi 2023, i watched them after the fact and knew who the winners were going in. this was the first season i watched were i truly did not know the winner, and that added to my enjoyment. not to mention this being the one and only time i was present in an online space to talk about show as the episodes dropped. this season was a bit messy here and there, but it delivered some great stuff. i found myself laughing out loud and just having a good time, which is all i need out of my silly little cartoon

Rose Quartz

It’s all “more morally grey women in media!” but when the mom from the space rocks singing and crying show turns out to not be the saint she was made out to be in the early seasons, suddenly she’s The Real Villain Of the Show and a Bitch and all the good she did in liberating the gems and saving the earth is completely erased. Yes! She was a diamond! She did some evil shit without understanding the consequences! She was once entitled and bratty and unempathetic. She got a lot of people hurt! But she also gave all our gems their freedom! She gave up her status and family and slowly tried to fix all the damage the diamonds had caused. She didn’t have Steven as a means to escape her past, she had Steven because she saw in humans everything she always wanted to be- something free and forever changing. You are allowed to not forgive her but claiming her to be inherently evil even after all she went through is flat out wrong. Imo you all just cant handle a bbw.

So many people absolutely DESPISE Rose Quartz. The show showed her character arc in reverse order, and when the show started, she was seen as this perfect being who was wise and kind and a rebel hero and utterly flawless. But then we find out that she wasn't perfect, and she was one of the tyrannical Diamonds the show has as the main antagonists. She used to be a spoiled brat who threw tantrums, hurt one of her servants, and left her friend/plaything Spinel to stand in a garden for thousands of years. She discovered the beauty of earth and rebelled to save it from being destroyed, even faking the death of her Pink Diamond identity so the rebellion could win. She works her entire life to change and become a better person from who she was. Ultimately she gives up her gem and life so Steven could live before the show begins, and the show has Steven gradually learning about her. She is often hated and seen as a villain and worse than the other Diamonds, who are genocidal tyrants until the very end of the show.

Steven Universe shows Pink Diamond’s arc in reverse. At the beginning of the show, all the characters see Rose as this great hero, this perfect unimpeachable goddess, and over the course of the show we learn that this is a lie — Rose was just as flawed as anyone else, in many was immature, lied to all of her closest friends, was at times very cruel to her loved ones, and spent most of her life unlearning the privilege and entitlement and cruelty which her youth taught her. The last things we learn about Pink Diamond (her abandonment of spinel, her treatment of volleyball) are perhaps the worst things she ever does. But these are also some of the *earliest* things she ever does — this is where she STARTS, and we see in the show that Pink spends a lot of time trying not to be the person who did those things, even if she never undoes them, so that by the end of her life she’s far from perfect but is also in many many important ways not that person. Her decision to become Rose Quartz is in part an attempt to remake herself, to *not be* the childish, callously cruel pink diamond she is meant to be. And rose quartz *is* kind, and works to be good, but she cannot truly stop being that person. In the end, I think we are meant to understand that Rose Quartz decided to become Steven because she wanted to grow and improve in a way she felt that she couldn’t — she KNOWS that she isn’t a good person and can never truly be a good person, so she destroys herself so that Steven can be the good person she can’t be. And her decision to bring steven into the world caused a lot of pain, and maybe it was selfish, but it’s also a fascinating expression of Rose’s self-awareness about her own flaws!!!! I love Rose/Pink for how flawed she is and how much she tries not to be flawed. Anyway a large portion of the SU fandom thinks Pink Diamond is an irredeemable monster. So that’s cool.

Chara Dreemur

There's a lot of bias against Chara for appearing at the end of the Genocide Route, but there's so much more to them than "I want to murder everyone". They're a kid!! They made mistakes and they felt bad for them, and now they're stuck following the player and watching their every move... The fandom misrepresents them very badly imo

Somehow people forgive Asriel for everything he's done as a soulless being after his death, but when it comes to Chara, it's like they're the devil incarnate.

Chara is a character commonly seen as guilty for the genocide run or harmless disregarding them only appearing at the end and posioning Asgore

Poor kid called themselves a demon ONE TIME and then got misrepresented so badly as immoral killer with no sympathy

People constantly blame them for the worst ending of the game, even though the entire point of the game is that the player has a the opportunity to choose senseless violence and that it is the player's fault for killing the characters. They are a troubled child, and while they do some bad things, like taking the player's violent example at the end, most of what the fandom pins on them is in the hands of the player.

ugh one thing i dislike about under the oak tree is how riftan and maxi have like,,, no friends. like riftan is such a fucking asshole to his knights and has such a stick up his ass that i have to wonder why do these other knights follow him ??? his entire character trait is being a downright asshole to everyone but maxi and it gets tiring to read at some points bc to me, it really flattens the world.

because personally, even when i read a romance, i want the main leads to have an enriched life outside of their love interest! i always hoped to see a scene of riftan having some form of camaraderie w his knights and treating them with,,, at least a little bit of friendliness, perhaps ??? bc i want there to be a reason these knights are following riftan, other than just him being a good warrior. i know riftans general disposition is very reserved and rigid but good god how many times has he gone to war w these guys??? and yet he cant even return a modicum of the affection and respect ruth and the other knights give to him smfhhhh

and as for maxi. i have a less of a grudge w her bc of her backstory obviously but i wish the author couldve shown her finding some solace in friendship as part of her journey in healing. its beautiful that she comes to see riftan as a source of home and safety, but i also wanted to see her dynamic w ruth deepen, along with Agnes. *especially* Agnes, actually, i want Maxi to slowly but surely stop feeling insecure and threatened around her. the little nuggets of her interacting w them and the maids and other knights are so charming and heartwarming to see. I want to see Maxi LOVE the people in their house and form genuine connections with them beyond surface level.

I do think the author does a good job of that when it comes to maxi and the household staff but.. the most disappointing part and the entire reason of this post was how utterly disappointed I was with maxi going to Nornui for three years and not making any fucking FRIENDS. like BRUH. do you know how desperately i wanted to see Maxi in Nornui, thriving despite herself, socially thriving and loving magic even while she's missing riftan. Like I haven't read book 3 yet but that little sneak peak we got of the first few chapters where some of the other students treated her like shit and she only had surface level friendships with some other wizards was sO FRUSTRATING TO READDD. l

like you're telling me maxi left home for THREE YEARS and she spent that ENTIRE TIME missing riftan and keeping everyone at a distance ???? didn't she leave bc she felt suffocated by riftans obsession and she wanted to become more of her own person ??? what the hell was the point then if she made no real connections and just wasted it thinking about riftan lmfao. they'll just go back to where they started- two people who are obsessed w each other w no other companionship, except now maxi just knows how to throw magic rocks or whatever lmfao.

sigh. im being being a bit nitpicky but i just really really wanted to see maxi in nornui making really good friends and building up confidence and pride- and then i wanted her to come back to anatol and for her riftan to see her and see how she's more at ease, maybe even a little more charming, and more confident after spending time in the towers and gaining the admiration and respect of other wizards, and coming back w her own allies and supporters. people whose companionship she forged on her own instead of what was forced onto her (like her marriage). like if it had been up to me i wouldnt have even had any of the wizards at the tower be rude to maxi- i wanted her leave in the tower to be one where she found herself and who she was, beyond her marriage, beyond even her magic.

like even though maxi is shy and reserved i wanted to see her come out of her shell a little bit is that too much to ask? and i wouldve loved to see that kind of transformation in her and how riftan wouldve handled it. of course its not to say that maxi shouldve come back from nornui as an extremely confident outgoing girl with no fears, in fact i think having a significant change but then her returning to anatol and bringing up her old habits and characteristics against who she's become wouldve been so delicious to see , but alas, i dont think thats where the story goes at all.

I know it’s late and I know you don’t want to hear from me but one thing that I want you to know is that I’ll always be there for you. No matter the day or year say the word and I’ll be there. Sent.

Fuck I really messed this up. That sounds so stupid. Texting people has always been hard for me. I just wanted to tell him one last time before we go our separate ways.

Jake and I had been dating for 4 years prior to this. I thought he was going to propose yet he told me that he was going away. Jake said not to wait for him but I’ll always wait for him. Mind, body, and soul I belong to him. Like the stars belong to the sky and the waves belong to the ocean. He wouldn’t listen to me and already packed his stuff out of my tiny apartment before I got back from work. But even then I couldn’t hate him.

His eyes were misty no matter how much he blinked and his voice had a tremor to it. “Why,” I cried out. “Why are you breaking up with me? I told you I would stand by your side through anything.”

“Becca,” he whispered, “I don’t want you to stand by my casket. I fly out tomorrow. Get over me. Hate me. Please.”

“Jake,” I croaked out, “I could never hate you. Not a single bone in my body could ever hate you in the slightest.” I reach up to try and hold his face in my hands one last time.

He pushes my hands away, for the first time ever. Tears slip down my eyes unbeknownst to him.

I collapse onto my couch we were hovering next to. The sobs break out of me once I hear my front door shut.

“Is this real,” I cry out. It simply can’t be! I wanted a life with him. Children, a house, a dog, anything. I wanted our futures to be inter winded. I need our futures to be intertwined.

As hours pass I find myself growing calmer but increasingly concerned for Jake. Why did he feel the need to break up with me? Is the mission that serious? It has to be. He loves me. He wanted to be together until our last breaths.

Is this some sick joke, I ponder. Tears quietly escape my eyes and trail down my face falling onto my now damp sweater, that Jake bought me. He said that it was his favorite color; baby blue. I break down again. Struggling to handle what happened I call the one person who could give me more insight, Allie. My lifelong best friend who is married to a Navy Seal.

After calling my best friend, Allie, I decide that he needs support. Allie spoke about what went through Alex’s mind every time he was deployed. He was scared to lose her, to lose his life, and never see her again.

Although this didn’t calm me down I decided o would just have to accept this as a known fact.

I draft multiple messages never seeming to be good enough. How could they be good? What requirements does a message like this need?

Thoughts race and race in my head until I write the best one. It should be good enough. My hand hovers over the send button. I close my eyes and tap it.

I open my eyes to check, it was sent.

I regret sending that so much. What if it was too much? Or even too little? Anxiety bubbles up in my stomach.

Fuck I really messed this up. That sounds so stupid. Texting people has always been hard for me. I just wanted to tell him one last time before we go our separate ways.

Shit! I forgot that Jake has his read receipts on. To calm my anxiety I turn my phone on do not disturb. I cant see his rejection to my pathetic text. Maybe he broke up with me because of how clingy I am? God, I can’t handle this.

I rush into my bedroom and pack up a few things. I can’t stay here. Not without him. Not in the ruins of us.

I call my parents to let them know what’s happening. They’re as confused as I am but not even the same but distressed. After our phone call I know that I have to go to the only place that will make me happy: California.

Back home surrounded by family and friends is what I truly need. So I gather my bags and lock up my apartment.

I pack my three bags into the trunk of my car. I check the time on my watch. It’s currently 6pm and 4 hours since Jake left me. The drive home is 20 hours long without stops. I have to leave tonight.

Pulling out of my parking space I make a quick stop at a coffee shop drive through. I get 3 iced coffees and some food for the drive.

The car connects automatically to my phone. And plays the last song I had on:

I Will Spend My Whole Life Loving You by Imaginary Future and Kina Grannis.

Oh my love, how you have hurt me. But oh baby, please come home to me. Love’s knife twists away at my heart.

I allow the song to play. As I drive down the highway I realize that I have no idea what my life will be like anymore. But loving Jake was so worth it even if I end up single forever. I slow down as I pass by a sign on the highway. It reads: thank you for staying in Texas.

I gently whisper, “goodbye Texas, I’ll miss you.”

Thancred and Minfilia/Ryne tragic sibling relationships fuck me up Im constantly writing them already myself and getting to ShB and seeing the sort of "my sister died and Im looking after her kid" vibe Thancred and Ryne had going and how Ryne's relationship to Minfilia also REALLY felt to me like the kid who's mom died giving birth/when she was young and she only grew up hearing about her from everyone else I just-- damn that's some good dynamics

Q'ihnn Tia and G'raha Tia this was a joke initially, it was a "hey wouldnt it be funny if they were ex boyfriends" when I was running the raids and then I got to ShB and got hit over the head with THAT and well now they're getting married aha they're just really sweet and they deserve the happiness of being together

Zana and Alphinaud Leveilleur these two stupid teenagers are in love and they're adorable. I would die for them. I'd kill for them without hesitation. he immediately had a crush on her and she immediately threatened to kill him and then their character arcs just lined up in a way where they're inseparable now and I love em a lot, they're real cuties. also they're like a mini Q'ihnn and G'raha too which I always think is funny to have like father like daughter shit with Q'ihnn and Zana lmao

Kerrich Drachman and Ophianne Vilauclaire I actually hadn't thought about these two much until recently but the dynamic is deeply compelling to me now - Kerrich and his adoptive kids as a whole vibe was always only ever something I really thought about with Estinien and Q'ihnn, with all three of them being dragoons, but Ophianne is the kid MOST like him and also the one he just... kinda ignored. didn't worry about. he wasn't training her and she could handle herself, he didn't feel like he needed to worry about it, but now she's grown and she just... doesn't want anything to do with him. she never did, she never wanted a father figure even as a kid, but she certainly doesnt want one now. and Kerrich is my canon's 1.0 WoL so his entire dynamic with Bahamut is, well, complicated... and Ophianne is a summoner. in fact she's more closely tied to the actual dragon that was Bahamut than the primal. the symbolism alone in that in their relationship is driving me insane and im really gonna hammer into it going forward as much as I get the chance

thinking about how i hated the ending of last kizuna

which sucks because i love the idea of “digimon adventure series but theyre older grown up now!”, and i liked literally everything EXCEPT for how they handled the main theme/plot.

(rant below, disclaimer: i watch the dub, dunno how different the plot is from the original/sub. also its been a hot sec since i watched it but it pissed me off so much i remember the main details dw. spoilers btw)

the theme in last kizuna fucking sucks. It’s all about like. letting things go as you grow up, which is fine, but they do it in the stupidest, most untrue way possible.

theyre trying to say that like. the digimon “die” (or at the very least disappear forever) as a digidestined grows up and “loses all their potential” because kids have more potential than adults

but that is just. straight up untrue? True, theres a whole idea about how kids have the potential to grow up to do anything. but its not like all your choices in life end when you hit 22 (i say this because thats around how old they are in the movie, early 20s 💀). You have the potential to: Learn new things/take college classes, get new jobs/pursue new careers, hell even smaller things like getting new hobbies or just. There’s so much potential in life for you to do things that make you happy. and I’d argue adults have more potential than kids, as they have more freedom and more of the ability to actively work towards change and work towards whatever potential they have (kids cant exactly pursue new careers or something like that)

And whats even stupider than the bad message is: they chose the two kids with THE MOST potential to kill of their digimon because of this stupid explanation. Think about it: Mimi has started a start up business, Izzy is already the president of a tech company, Joe is a doctor: most of the kids have careers now. But then they chose MATT AND TAI (Matt is in school still. Tai literally spends the whole movie not knowing what he wants to do with his life, he’s struggling in school and finding a meaningful career/what he wants to do with his life). And they say “oh those two have lost their potential so their digimon are disappearing” WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? THEY HAVE ALL THE POTENTIAL IN THE WORLD TAI LITERALLY DOESNT EVEN KNOW WHAT HE WANTS TO DO WITH HIS LIFE 😭😭

My personal theory is that the villain was wrong. She lost her digimon when she was like, a little kid still, and it was after a great achievement in her life. So she goes “oh, it must be because I lost all my potential :( “ and thats the explanation they go with for the entire movie. But it is like. Likely that shes wrong purely because that doesnt make any fucking sense 💀

I don’t know exactly what the true explanation is, but heres me taking a shot in the dark with a guess (which could be wrong): I think that its a metaphorical “destiny” death. Digimon never really die for real, we know this since theyre originally just a tamagotchi (which resets when it dies), and even though in the movie they say that theyre gone forever, the ending implies theyre not (and if the 02 ending is canon: then we KNOW theyre not since they were way older in that and still have their digimon). But I do think that like: its the death of their destiny duties. The whole god damn series these kids havent had a break from constantly having to save the world with digidestined madness. But its getting to a point where theres enough new digidestined to where: the older ones might not be needed to save the world anymore.

its a “death” from having to deal with the responsibility of the digital world and all the destiny shit that comes with it. And I think that if they seek out their digimon (who are implied to still be around based on the ending, also the villain definitely tried seeking out her digimon. while we don’t know fully what happened, its clear menoa lost sight of herself, perhaps her digimon got corrupted/dark digivolved into the eosmon we see throughout the film, since eosmon is DEFINITELY the evolution of morphomon.) If they do seek out their digimon without losing sight of themselves, i believe could still have a happy life together (as we see at the end of 02). Just without any of the holds to destiny they once had. Theyve lost their old responsibilities, and have new ones in their own, adult lives.
