I'm convinced that all of these I'm a stomach problem girl, I have ibs, all the hot girls have IBS jokes that are going around are somehow related to the fact that those of us born in the '80s and '90s and early '00s were subjected to so much diet culture propaganda. And we tried so many diet fad bullshit shakes and drinks and pills and Weight Watchers and all of that shit fully fucked up our digestive systems and now we are in our 20s and 30s and 40s with horrible stomach problems

Remember- as we enter 2024, Diet Culture is a scam.
Health is not determined by your weight alone;
health comes in many weights;
Looking good comes in many weights;
Feeling good comes many weights;
Happiness comes in many weights;
weight is not a sign of virtue;
health is not a sign of virtue;
Food is a gift.
Your body has carried you through another year.
On the first day of 2024, eat something delicious, clean something cluttered, do something outside, do something you've been putting off. But you keep that fucking diet culture bullshit out of your mouth and out of your mind.
馃挅 Enjoy 123123!

The amount of self-fatphobia I encounter in my female friends regarding holiday treats is too damn high and it pisses me off. Twice this week I have told friends that it's okay to eat more in the winter (or when the fuck ever) because we are mammals and that's what we're supposed to do and both of them were like, "Teehee oh that's a great excuse!" And I'm like NO IT'S TRUE your body is responding to rhythms deeper than our modern concept of shame and it's absolutely fine to honor them and listen to your body! You don't need to generate some excuse in order to justify eating and being hungry and enjoying food.
I have had to do so much self-work regarding food and permission to eat and learning to be okay with enjoying food beyond its purpose as mere fuel. Like that was such a huge part of my recovery. My nutritionist once held my hand while I ate cheesecake and cried. And every time I encounter (milder versions of) those same food-phobic fat-shaming feelings in people I love I want to burn down the whole world because WHY ARE WE MADE TO FEEL LIKE THIS!?
Can we as a society just. Shut. The. Fuck. Up. about dieting and thinness and the morality of certain body shapes and just live in these physical bodies with their needs and desires and cravings!?!??

Your January reminder that two people who "work on their body" and "eat right" in the same exact way can look entirely different. Thin people justifying thin pride or thin privilege by "just being proud of the body I worked so hard for" is utter fatphobic tosh and bullshit. Happy New Year!

Pressuring anyone to diet or lose weight is abusive, regardless of whether that person is your partner, your friend, or a complete stranger to you. Apparently, a lot of people in the community are genuinely unaware of this. But an even greater and alarming number of people out there just pretend to be unaware of this fact so they don鈥檛 feel guilty about fat-shaming and food policing someone they claim to care about. 馃

A few years back I stumbled across intuitive eating/no food rules stuff on Instagram and had a startling moment of "this actually seems legit? this is a non-insane approach to food?" which means a lot to me as someone who needs instruction on how to not be insane.
So I heard the theory that if you want to stop bingeing on a food every time you have access to it, you should just... let yourself have as much as you want. Obviously this only works for certain things, and a more careful approach to this would be more helpful for many people. But I like to live dangerously so I just started buying chips whenever I wanted chips.
(You would not believe how much I like a potato chip. It is a notable feature of my personality.)
I let myself eat the whole bag of chips. I could open a second bag if I wanted to, though I don't think I ever got more than three chips into the second bag before going urgh. The only restriction on how many chips I could have was my willingness to acquire chips.
Slowly the bag of chips went from lasting thirty minutes, to lasting the day, to lasting two days. Now I have a (clipped-shut) bag of chips on my desk that I opened on NYE and I don't really want any. I know they taste incredible but every I eat one I go "blerh."
The best part of this whole thing is that I can just keep chips in the cupboard now. When I actually want chips, I can simply go to the cupboard and get them, because past-Ruin did not eat them immediately. When I'm nauseous and nothing else sounds edible, there are chips in the cupboard waiting for me!!

Some day, people will look back at the fatphobia, built around mere correlations, in the same way people used to believe tomatoes were poisonous.
Being fat is the tomato, being fatphobic is the plate coated in lead
