sudden realisation that the thing holding my art back is that I never had an anime phase

#going to find a time machine and get my younger self into death note or smth #I have been driving myself insane for the past few years bc I wanna draw characters but all I know how to do is portraits #I’m trying to figure out how I could recreate smth similar now and tragically I think it does just come down to draw more :/#however! I am also going to try using brushes which will be bad for sketchiness and better for lineart bc I might need to force myself here #I just gotta simplify things down to basic shapes how hard can it be #[has been thinking this exact thing for years and it’s not worked]#I am getting better every time I do stuff I’m just not satisfied bc art is frustrating when you know what you want but can’t get there #god it’s 2am I should not be awake rn but I could draw again tonight so I was taking advantage #endlessly frustrated by hair. why is it so awkward. I need to understand hair better how do I do this #i have a feeling it’s bc I’ve not figured out how to apply the shit I figured out abt volume yet #I’m also getting impatient bc I’ve been trying to do a study thing for some art styles but I decided I wanted to draw ocs instead of that #when I hadn’t gotten to the actually important bit which was. making smth new. but I can still do that #and I ended up doing a different style anyway (someone pls stop me rounding everything make me use high opacity square brush for my health)#the Other problem is I never wanna switch brushes. like I want to use one brush for whole drawing bc the extra clicks annoy me #I wonder if there’s a shortcut to swap brushes #anyway I’m gonna stop complaining bc drawing is fun but god I wish I’d drawn some more pokey mans when I was a teenager yknow #ideally younger. would rlly like to not have to actually think to figure this out rn #I’m probably overthinking stuff anyway honestly and I KNOW I’ll get it if I practice enough but goddamn it is hard to practice #especially when my me insists on making the bad things look better by making it more realistic #instead of figuring out why the shapes aren’t working #OKAY IM DONE WITH THIS NOW. I rlly like doing detail work w pen and its looks #super cool but if ur doing color it has to be done before the pen. i thought bc watercolor is transparent u would be able to see but #i think it toned down the detail and texture a lot #also i need to work on backgrounds and like atmosphere i think i wasnt sure what to do w that and its hurting the composition a bit #overall i'm proud of this and had a lot of fun making it:)#i think i will do more wizards. i have done like. a couple before lol but this is my favorite so far #my art

(preface that i havent read the book so sue me or something) i dont even know if its justified cause i havent seen the movie in years (and i saw it maaaybe twice) but i fucking absolutely hatethe tim burton charlie and the chocolate factory so much. the original movie is the fucking best i love it so goddamn much. the musical (preferably the broadway ver)? amazing love it so goddamn much. the fucking stupid ass tim burton movie having that stupid ass conflict with wonka where his dad sucks or whatever is fucking dumb and it takes away from the message of the story. yea willy wonka isnt supposed to be perfect but like making charlie not want to come to the factory cause he doesnt want to let his parents in and theres a whole dentist toothpaste thing is fucking STUPIDDD like why would you make willy wonka this immature shithead who is like "hey boy come work with me but leave your dumb parents behind cause we have candy isnt that awesome" like HUH willy wonka is supposed to be weird but not A FUCKING CREEP and ik im like "hes not supposed to be a creep" and its literally directed by tim burton but like who fucking cares tim burton made a shit willy wonka thats not my fault. the fuckin musical where willy wonka disguises himself as the candy store dude and in that way learns more about charlie and his love for the chocolate factory is AWESOME thats actually adding something to the base story thats a good fucking idea cause it just expands on charlies character by showing his inherent caringness and imagination he is the best charlie imo and like building an actual relationship with wonka and charlie is perfect like it just shows whats to come. the original movie having charlie just be a good fit cause hes kind deep down and thats literally it is fucking great as well cause like thats just literally part of the message of the fucking story i guess charlie is good in the tim burton one but they spent so much time making me fucking hate wonka that i dont even remember cause all i can think about is that stupid fucking backstory where like his house disappears or something shit cause his dad is like how dare you want to consume sugar child im supposed to be abusive ig?? but in the most stupid ass way and in turn it makes wonkas trauma I GUESS?? fucking dumb and annoying at best

being an it manager for 4 offices is emailing someone less than 5 very specific, short, straightforward steps on how to do something trivial on a computer and sitting there in bewilderment when u get a response with them at an inconceivably different outcome like?? 😭 if u were in my office i could just walk over n show u but also WHAT are u talking about.

#@ english anon #pls don't ever apologize for ranting!!#am always here to listen!!#i completely understand the feeling of not clicking with or being able to fully understand a work that everyone else seems to love #this happens to me with books a lot especially classics which tend to have a lot of dense prose and complicated vocabulary #like you mentioned!!#and i'm not sure what author you're referring to although i might have a suspicion??#but at the end of the day i believe that reading should always be something that's FUN #and if reading something in particular is making you more frustrated than entertained #then i personally wouldn't force myself to keep reading it #the fact that you gave them a fair shot by reading multiple of their fics further solidifies that maybe #u just don't mesh well with their writing #and i just want to stress that that IS NOT A BAD THING!!!#it happens for everyone – i have a list of authors i consider talented but who i just don't click with in terms of writing #that being said i do also understand the feeling of missing out because you don't what everyone else seems to get :/#and that definitely sucks... but you have the make decision that's best for you at the end of the day!!#and the decision of how you want to spend your (valuable) time esp after giving it a fair shot as you definitely did!!#idk if i'm making sense shjskls i'm rambling now!!#but hopefully you get what i'm trying to say #and feel free to message me if you want to discuss further!#EDIT: just also want to further clarify and say that i kept saying 'writing style' specifically #but you mentioned not understanding the big picture either #and that has also happened to me a lot –– it's completely normal!!!#everyone has different interpretations and ideas about things #and sometimes your interpretations/perspectives match with someone else's and sometimes they don't #i can't count how many times the 'big picture' of a story has gone straight over my head #but i try not to blame myself for it because i know that it's just because people are all different + we have different ideas about things #okay stopping now for real!!
