OK, but hear me out
Say Ride the Cyclone were to be adapted into a film; imagine how much fun it would be to see it animated.
Because for the main plot, like the intro song and the mostly dialogue scenes in limbo, you could easily do a stylistic, but still grounded in realism style that a lot of modern animated projects are doing right now (think Arcane or Into the Spider Verse). But once each of the kids go into their respective songs/fantasies for what their life could have been? What if those were done in completely different styles?? Imagine the additional, visual storytelling that would tell about who they are as characters?
Like say, for Ocean's number, WTWN, everything became more simplified, and the characters (especially Ocean herself) turned into a more rounded, chibi-like style to enhance just how cutesy and likeable she's trying to portray herself throughout that number.
Or for Noel's Lament, everything goes black and white, and the characters become even more 2D stylized, and the film scales down to a smaller millimeter frame, more reminiscent of cartoons from the early 20's, when animation was just starting out, to enhance his idealization of "the olden days" (as Ocean puts it).
Mischa's song, This Song is Awesome could be animated with a more choppy frame rate, and the character designs turn a little more jagged around the edges, kind of like animated music videos (I'm thinking a Gorillaz band vibe). But as he transitions into singing about Talia, the colors start to bleed out over their lineart, and become more paint-like and Talia herself moves like a rotoscoped character (think Loving, Vincent that came out a few years ago) to enhance the sense that she's somewhere between a real person and a fantasy Mischa's built in his mind.
Ricky's song would, of course, be stylized after those sci-fi cartoons from the 90's, like X-Men or Captain Planet.
For the Ballad of Jane Doe, I would love to see something like what Wolfwalkers did back in 2020, where most of the characters (in this case, the other kids) are for the most part, animated like traditional, 2D characters with very clean lines and neat movements, whereas Jane herself stands out for having messier, sketchy line art, and looks more and more unfinished in her animation as the song goes on, because she can feel more and more of her own identity being lost.
Constance's Sugar Cloud I could see done in the classic 2D Disney style (i.e., the Renaissance era of Disney, like the Lion King or Little Mermaid days) because not only is it really smooth and colorful and just all around nice to look at, but it reminds the average moviegoer of their childhood growing up with those movies (among others, obviously), which ties in nicely with Constance's preceding monologue about remembering her own life, and the good that came with the bad.
I'm even tempted to envision the first half of the finale song in a different style, when the stage production would show a quick projection of Jane/Penny's life after she returned to the world of the living. Imagine watching this animated film, and for that segment alone, it becomes that really hyper-realistic, almost uncanny valley CGI animation style, to show that she really has joined the world of the living, i.e. our world, among us, the living breathing movie goers watching this, and watching the other kids still in limbo fade back to that main art style for the final number.
I don't know; it just feels like something that would be so engaging to see from an already compelling storyline and characters. Especially with more experimental animation projects on the rise right now

"why does this word mean multiple things in this language" vs. "why can't i use this word for all these different contexts it's so much more simple that way"

something that's been tickling my brain for the last couple of days and kind of bugging me is that seemingly from the extras (Xie Lian being powerless against the amnesia monster etc), breaking his cultivation really DID sap Xie Lian's power.
Like. Okay. So Xie Lian spends the bulk of the story with his power shackled, reliant on borrowing it from other people when he needs it. And then there's this huge pivotal moment when he is freed from those shackles by Hua Cheng's sacrifice, freed by love to be empowered and fight his own battle, etc etc it's very beautiful. And then Hua Cheng comes back and they get married and the consummation of that same love that freed him strips him of his power and puts him right back to having to borrow it?!?! (albeit sexily😆) As much as I love this story, I'm having a hard time being satisfied by that.
My instinct is to want something like this: We know that in this universe the beliefs of the worshipers have at least some impact on the gods they worship. Xie Lian hasn't had worshipers besides Hua Cheng in centuries. And the new followers he's slowly gaining worship him as he is, not as he once was. They're barely aware of him as a prince, or of Xianle at all. They don't know or care what his cultivation path was. They just know that he was with them in Banyue Pass and Mount Yujun and so on; that he faced the serpents fearlessly and that he fought off the ghost brides and that he is kind and compassionate and brave and also clumsy and a terrible cook. They know him helping in the fields outside Puqi Shrine with a handsome lad in tow. And so when he breaks his vows to seal new ones, Xie Lian expects to lose his power. But when he reaches tentatively for it afterwards, he finds it all still there. Because no one needs him to be a virgin anymore. No one needs him to be free from anger or competitiveness or sorrow or love. No one needs him to push aside every human impulse and desire and emotion. The worship of those who love him -- and most especially of the One who loves him most -- frees him to be the god he is, and to have power as he is.
Anyway. This isn't necessarily a critique so much as a question...am I missing something? Because I very much like MXTX's writing and it's generally very intentional so that's entirely possible. Is the way I would like just too obvious? Too happy an ending with no downsides? Is there some narrative theme I'm not quite grasping? I would love to hear (kindly voiced 😅) opinions!

Isn’t it kinda funny that the hottest tribute ever, Finnick Odair, is a ginger? I know that people are really opinionated when it comes to liking men with red hair -- it’s somehow not the same as liking men with brown, black, or blonde hair. Does this mean Finnick is a literal Adonis?

I am not a regular TCW viewer, was the whole 'Barriss Offee is a villain' reveal a natural character progression for her or did it come out of the blue?
Because Wookieepedia makes it look like it was a totally random thing for her to decide to do.
And were TCW fans mad at the time, or were they cool with it, what was the drama like?
(Also, I am now totally seeing why people thought Barriss should have returned in Rebels as an inquisitor. They apparently 'have plans' for her, and thus she never got officially killed, but I cannot find if they ever used her in any other materials, or if the character is still in limbo.)
I think they should have made her the top dog inquisitor. Though it would have made Rebels overkill-focused on Ahsoka, I guess.
P.S. I'm a little slow on the uptake, but it just struck me that they really did make a whole TCW arc where the headscarf-wearing Jedi turns out to be a bomb terrorist, wow.

... oh mygod,Link teaching Sidon how to shield surf.
Also, Link ending one of its surfing trips by dramatically jumping at Sidon, who ofc course catches him
Sidon: *gasp* Link! That's dangerous! What if I wasn't there to catch you?
Link: *kissing Sodon's cheek* I love you, too.
*flustered shark noises*

I dunno if this is just me but I think Omeluum is way more unhinged than the Emperor. When talking about "normal" illithid colonies I picture the Emperor going on with this lenghty speech, explaining all their flaws and restrictions of freedom and individuality etc while Omeluum is just straight up "FUCK THEM! We need an illithid revolution asap!"

Small update!
Tumblr media
So, I'm extremely amazed and lucky to have gotten lots of support on my art lately.. thank you so much ;; Admittedly I'm pretty behind on looking at the notifs, and notably for asks: i want to answer them all in a single post, so it will be a little longer til there's a response there. I appreciate the patience :")
Lots more art incoming as well, I just like to spread my pieces out a bit.
Thank you. Hope you're well :"D

Hooo look mom! I'm back on the camera! It's been a while since the last time! It sure makes you feel something everytime.
Actually i'm really glad people like this kind of doodle and if it even inspires them. They're far from being masterpieces or complex but that's exactly what it means to scribble for fun, so if it makes you want to do the same and enjoy it as it is with the aesthetic and flaws, that's great. Go on, grab that pencil or pen and have fun! After all we like cute or cool content even when it's not perfect and that's the very proof of it

Not me still thinking about that one interview with Courtney Eaton where she confirms everything she does as Lottie stems from that one scene in the pilot that shows her sitting all alone in her parents' house. Still thinking about that shot, and Lottie's line in the pilot, "[paying for large things] is dad's only form of parenting". How both of these elements indicate that much of Lottie's home life was incredibly lonely. How, in the same interview, it's indicated that Lottie doesn't believe she has anything to go back to when they get rescued from the wilderness. Thinking about how insistent Lottie was to be a martyr (i.e. food) for her friends when she thought she was dying after Shauna beat her. Thinking about how even as an adult, Lottie is shown to be the most willing to offer herself to the Wilderness for the sake of others. How Lottie probably believes that by having a meaningful death, she could finally give her life meaning, too

just spent the last half hour watching otters playing in the pond in my pasture!!! it is a pretty small and shallow little pond and i NEVER would have expected to see the otters come up this far from the creek. they were splashing and squealing and churning the water up like little sea monsters. watched them until it was too dark to see.
rip to all the minnows i put in there a few years ago haha

tfw you play a whimsical fashion dress up game where everyone solves conflict through dress up battles but the canonical lore reason for those dress up battles is a blood curse inflicted on everyone in the land that prevents anyone from physically harming another individual lest they be put through unbearable pain themselves

i keep thinking about 40-year-old law.
his jet hair has whorls of white—glimmering sea salt deposits—and is cropped, neatly kept. simple, gold-rimmed glasses perch on his tawny nose at all times (no doubt from countless late nights in his office, amber eyes straining over medical books and paperwork).
he gets his tattoos touched up regularly so they don’t fade, and while he wears more shirts than he did in his youth, they remain half-buttoned, swirls of ink always on display. he quit his nasty smoking habit years ago, but he continues to drink more caffeine than he should—it’s probably why he stays so lean.
as for his heart? it’s still beating steadily, if not a little quickly, thanks in part to you. shachi and penguin give him a hard time for “going soft,” but if law has learned anything during your time together, it’s that vulnerability isn’t weakness.
cora-san would be proud of the man he has become.
