He feels like crying but why? This was the woman who killed Rodrigue out of revenge for the death of her father. He hardly knows anything about the ashen demon but why was there a hole now making its way into his heart? As if in another life, she was his BELOVED. There’s a voice in his head to avenge her by killing the one who took her life.

Wanna know a fun Edeleth fact that tears me to pieces :)???
We know that Edelgard doesn’t like to cry. According to how she reacts to Jeralt’s death, it’s mostly because she sees it as a waste of time, and that it’s much easier to just bury those emotions and move forward than it is to confront them.
Tumblr media
I was thinking about what Edelgard says before the final battle in Fhirdhiad:
Tumblr media
“Whatever happens, know that you’re very special to me,” definitely tells me that she’s gone over the possibility of Byleth dying several times in her head.
The probability that she tried to steel herself by reminding herself of that scenario over and over so that she’s numb to the grief is pretty likely, as it’s a very traditional (albeit unhealthy) way of coping with that particular kind of dread. So she steeled her nerves so she would be prepared to move forward if the worst happened.
Up until the very moment that it came to pass.
Tumblr media
She suspected it would happen, and she rehearsed her composure. But it didn’t work. Imagining the scenario was nothing like it actually coming to pass. The sheer despair hit so much harder, cut so much deeper than she could have ever possibly thought, so much so that she disregarded all of that self-talk to wall up and prevent herself from grieving.

You know, people forget that Soldier, Poet, King is a Christian song depicting different aspects of Jesus, but it sure is interesting to see that the fandom almost universally makes Dimitri the Soldier, Claude the Poet, and Edelgard the King
However, I argue a different order
*le gaspu*
Dimitri is still the soldier, but I think Claude and Edelgard should switch. I think Edelgard is the Poet and Claude is the King
Hear me out
Dimitri, we all know why he's the Soldier. I don't think we need to explain that. I don't need to get into the bible analysis, man LITERALLY tears cities down, oh lei oh lai oh lord
Edelgard is a very well spoken person. When she's actually given room to voice her ideas, despite being wrong because she's got just the tip of the iceberg of the true history, she can managed to convince almost anyone. In both games, she manages to convince most of her empire, which is FULL of very devout followers of Seiros and Sothis, to attack the Central Church and follow her lead. For a person who doesn't know much better, she's very damn convincing. She just doesn't do it very often, and she's terrible at listening when people try to counter her ideas (her argument with Dimitri and Azure Moon really highlights this when he tries to open a dialogue). But the important thing there is also that this is a role she chooses to take on in both games. If you look at the Poet, this easily relates to the start of Jesus's ministry in the bible, taking down establishments left and right on his word alone. Edelgard convinces her country to follow her on her accusations alone (as she was only 18 when she started the war and even as emperor she had to talk many ministers into following her lead or nothing would've happened without ministers like Count Bergliez and Count Hevring that she convinced), slaying the church with her tongue
Meanwhile, the King easily relates far more to Claude than the Poet. Claude doesn't really spend a lot of time convincing people of his ideals or talking them into anything aside from explaining his ambitions to Byleth and Shez, and depending on your supports in some ways to Leonie and Lorenz. Unlike Edelgard, Claude is in a situation he didn't ask for. He has a war thrust upon him and a conflict with a massive religious body that breeds prejudice to contend with. As an outsider who is deeply untrusted, he has to fight tooth and nail just to keep the Alliance whole. All the meanwhile he's constantly having insults thrust upon him by his own people, and in certain routes he's completely abandoned by one of the largest political players in his nation. The crown of thorns was not a burden Jesus chose to accept, like the burden of war Edelgard created and thrust upon the world, but was something thrusted upon him that he then had to deal with. It's easy to see that Claude never wanted to contend with this war and only stays because he HAS to, for the sake of both Almyra and Fódlan, despite knowing all he's doing is keeping things stable while not fixing the situation. But in the end he's still prepared to sacrifice everything to try and make the world better. In Houses, he even plans for his own death to protect the people of the Alliance, the people who fought against him and rejected him the most. In Hopes, he settles on working with people he fundamentally disagrees with and dislikes for the sake of protecting Fódlan. With a character progression like that, it just feels like the ruler who his brow laid in thorn, anointed in oil, that tracks to Claude much better than Edelgard
But hey, that's just my opinion. Wow, who knew being dragged to church kicking and screaming against my will would come in handy for a strategy JRPG

Golden Wildfire Ch 15 (Final)
Guys, I think this is finally it, the last chapter
MAIN STORY
We're . . . not going to get an answer about Shez, are we? Would I if I recruited Byleth?
Which, now that I think about it, that was really anticlimatic death.
Also, Claude wants Dimitri and Faerghus to survive, but Rhea to die. Edelgard doesn't want Dimitri and Faerghus to survive, but also wants Rhea to die. So why the hell is Claude letting Edelgard right Dimitri while he fights Rhea? What's stopping Edelgard from killing Dimitri and taking all the Faerghus land she desperately wants? He knows Rhea was only an excuse for her.
I guess just another "Claude is an idiot" point or the writers not giving a single shit about him or this route and only caring about Dimitri and Edelgard.
Claude is suddenly reading Dimitri's mind. He thinks Dimitri wants him to dissolve the central church. This is . . . beyond stupid. Claude is literally imagining the enemy wants he wishes the enemy would want. This is such a stupid thing to do in war. Dimitri has never showed signs of wanting the church dissolved.
Also, blaming all of Fodlan's problems on Rhea is so dumb and such childish thinking too.
They really were like, go Claude, we'll give you nothing! in the writer's room.
If I cared about Claude, I'd be livid. I doubt many Dimitri or Edelgard fans are upset though.
Man, the character list is so much smaller in this route.
MAP/SIDE BATTLES
So annoyed this one has a bunch of side quests. I'm sooooo close to finishing this game.
Aww, an Alliance NPC talked about how much she likes Seteth and hopes he survives.
Ouch! Yuri! When he questions the validity of Claude's plans, Shez assures him it's the only way to pave the future, and he has the audacity to say "I guess now isn't the time to be wondering who exactly is included in this future we're dreaming about." He's calling Claude out on his shit big time. Yuri just does not fit here.
Ashe keeps talking about Dimitri. He's miserable.
Hapi doesn't want to kill Rhea :(
Ohhh, interesting, so Raphael doesn't like how we've been fighting. Shez can agree or disagree. I agreed in both SB and GW. In GW, she says their actions are too haphazard, but in SB, she says they're being too brutal and not letting anyone surrender. Curious differences (ofc Raphael just wants to eat and party, that's what he disagrees with, it's Shez's perceptions that made me interested).
Gilbert and Dimitri talking. Dimitri arriving has boosted moral. But it's the same for his enemies.
Dimitri's concerned about Rhea and learns that they're prepared for battle. Dimitri can't help them :(
Dimitri ordered his citizens to evacuate because he's worried about what the Alliance will do, but isn't convinced Claude wants to destroy his Kingdom.
I love Dimitri doubling down on protecting his people above all else here. Gustave is upset about abandoning Rhea. Dimitri is too, but he's willing to be the bad guy if it saves a single life in Faerghus.
A side mission involved defeating Cyril :( And now Flayn :(
SHEZ & RAPHAEL A
Soldiers are happier. Shez can guess war turning in our favor or pay raise.
If you ever needed proof that Raphael is an idiot, he argues that wouldn't make sense because not everyone is motivated by money. Like, seriously, tell me a single soldier there who gives a flying shit about what some king says. The only route this wouldn't be true in is AG since they're fighting for their lives.
Anyways, it's actually the food.
Shez talks about how a good meal rather than scapes is a good motivator. And honestly, good point.
Raphael talks about being an innkeeper. Honestly, he'd be such a fun boss to have, but he'll need to hire someone to handle the logistics lol.
Raphael asks Shez to tag along. I can either be nice and agree or not make promises. Being mean to Raphael is basically bullying.
Shez either way still considers being a mercenary, but I love the idea of Shez and Raphael running an inn together.
LYSITHEA & RAPHAEL A
Wonder why they choose Lysithea of all people to reach A with Raphael.
She studied too long and is out after dark, so obviously scared. She tries to convince herself the weird noises is Raphael.
But it's not this time, bc he shows up and asks what's the creepy noise lol. Poor Lysithea.
Now she's properly freaked out. Poor girl.
It's probably just a cat, but she thinks it's a ghost.
Lysithea goes to investigate too or else she'll be alone.
I guessed wrong. It's a puppy, not a cat. Poor doggy is hungry, and Raphael knows the dog.
Lysithea is like, if you knew the dog, how come you didn't know that? lol.
HILDA & DOROTHEA B
A fan gave Dorothea a bracelet, and she appreciates the support. Hilda wishes she had one too.
Dorothea tells Hilda no one is better in the whole army at makeup and accessories.
The support addresses how Hilda makes her own accessories.
Dorothea talks about plant design trends. So like real life lol.
Hilda asks Dorothea about her makeup. She tries to stick for ones that are actually good for the body. Which, is really good considering what they used to use for makeup.
They want to keep chatting over tea.
Honestly, I love seeing two girls just chat about girly things without anyone putting it down.
It's nice, in general, how the Fodlan games don't put down the women who are really into fashion and the ones who don't care. Everyone is allowed to just exist, and it's great.
LYSITHEA PARALOGUE
Does she get her own because her paired up one is in SB?
She apologizes to Count Glouster for all the chaos Ordelia causes, but he apologizes for not taking care of it. She understands how important it is for him to protect the bridge.
Her father is buddies with Lorenz's father.
Shez comes with news about Ordelia under attack.
No one else can help. Lysithea says she didn't realize how Claude could be so cruel. Shez tries to defend him by saying she's all the way out here, and Lysithea claps back. Team Lysithea here.
Shez thought Count Glouster would we dead weight. She was right. Idiot almost died. Shez and Lysithea were fine.
He looks forward to the day both aren't leaders anymore so they can just be friends and thinks Lysithea would be a worthy heir :( Poor Lysithea, she faltered at that.
Glouster did nothing to help Lysithea's father because he led the pro-Empire nobles.
MARIANNE & YURI A
Yuri sees Marianne out late and worried that she was going to leave like she thought about, but she was just walking her horse.
Then we get the classic "..." and "..." response. Since the ye ole days characters have done that in FE supports.
Marianne is like, why were you worried, then goes off how she's just a burden, and Yuri is like stop that, now.
Yuri is allergic to horses and cats? :((( Poor guy. That would suck.
That's why he was always giving Marianne funny looks, because he was about to sneeze and she's always around horses, lamo.
It's nice seeing Yuri be nice. But if he was mean to Marianne, like how can you be mean to Marianne?
Yuri dreams of being able to spent time with the animals he's allergic too, so he accepts Marianne's offer to use magic to try to help. I hope it works.
HILDA & DOROTHEA A
Hilda is trying to figure out what's wrong with one of her accessories. She thinks it's missing something.
Dorothea offers to help out, and is really impressed with Hilda's craftsmanship. And honestly, there's a picture and it looks pretty.
Hilda likes Dorothea's suggestion.
Dorothea also offers to buy the accessories for the opera, and use that to advertise them too.
Hilda is more than happy with that suggestion.
Hilda actually wants to open her own school to teach people craftsmanship, and thinks she can partner with Dorothea on that too.
MARIANNE & IGNATZ A
A pegasus that Ignatz was helping said "bring me more hay, four eyes." to Ignatz, Marianne interpreted. She rightly called it rude lamo.
Ignatz used to ride pegasus with his mother, she used to be a pegasus knight. I wonder if that's why he wants to be a knight.
He was really impressed with the view, understandably.
It made him want to become a pegasus knight, but they're sexist lol. Women only.
That's why he wants to help with the pegasi so much, it's the closest he can get.
Marianne is like "I can feel your feelings in the paintings" and Ignatz freaks out until she keeps going and saying she can tell how much he loves pegasi. I wonder what he was so worried about . . .hmm . . . Liking Marianne just proves taste though.
Marianne thinks that maybe the pegasus will accept Ignatz. But I don't think it went well lol. She grabbed his clothing with her teeth, not on her back. OMG, poor Ignatz.
It ends with Ignatz begging for Marianne's help lamo.
MAIN (& FINAL) BATTLE
Alright, guys, this is it. 2/3 done once this battle is over. Sadly, I'll probably have to kill Rhea though. But who knows, she got to be the hero of SB in the end, maybe GW too, or is that asking too much?
Rhea's like I should've killed these bitches years ago (rather than protecting them after turning her genocided family into weapons, poor woman has seen some shit).
Rhea thinks she'll have the goddesses' protection. Too bad Sothis is dead :(
It seems like Rhea is expecting to die. She's telling Seteth and Flayn to run. And saying her time is at an end.
It's funny that Rhea also thinks she's fighting for the future and humanity because she thinks she knows what's best. She and Edelgard (and Claude in this route) are really the same. Then there's Dimitri, the only sane one who doesn't have a bloated ego that thinks he knows best for every living soul in Fodlan, in some case, without ever even talking to some people from a particular country (looking at you, Edelgard, ding dong thinks she can rule Faerghus better than Dimitri without ever even having bothered to TALK to someone from Faerghus).
OK, so why did Edelgard only get 40 points, but Claude gets 70?
OMG, one of Claude's tactics is to burn the enemies alive (elite archers turn enemies into ash, not sure how else to see that).
I don't want to kill Cyril two times in one night :( Thankfully, he retreated.
Great, now Alois is here, claiming he'll fight to the death, which seems major OOC even with Rhea under attack. This game really forgot that he had a family, didn't it? I think he, Claude, and Caspar got the biggest downgrades in writing.
Oh, shit, he died for real. And he mentioned his family this time.
I had to fight Seteth too, but he retreated, thankfully.
DON'T MAKE ME KILL MERCEDES!!!!
Oh, fuck, Cyril died :((( God.
Jeritza came to save his sister :(((( So he turned against the Empire in GW. That's kinda touching, much better than in Houses. Seems Mercedes is now flipping, better than having to kill her like poor Cyril and Alois.
Now I have to fight Flayn :( Thankfully, she withdrew.
Now I have to fight Seteth and Flayn again, but on the upside, Rhea did badass magic and took away my captured strongholds.
I'm not clear if Flayn died or retreated, but Seteth is pissed off at me.
Oh, thank God, they're both running away.
Time to kill Rhea :(
Cut scene time. Wow, Claude, that's rich. He's telling Rhea to go walk away. But, to like where? The guy's been hell bent on killing her and blaming her for everything from racism to arranged marriage this entire game?
Why the random flower getting crushed? Usually that's a sign of crushed renewal, not a brand new world like Claude's been blowing smoke about this whole route.
Lololol Idiot just realized Rhea's the Immaculate One.
Lamo, even in the final battle Marianne's not convinced Claude not coo coo for coco puffs.
More cut scene. Shez and Claude killing Rhea. Shez turned into Arval. Wonder what happens if you recruit Byleth.
This was such a watered-down version of SB's final battle. They both had Rhea as a final boss, but SB got Thales too and it was A LOT harder because of that. Either that or Lorenz is really that silly stupid good.
Another abrupt, non-ending.
Claude wanted the war to end, and shock of all shock, killing Rhea didn't work!!! The idiot. All those people died, for nothing. I also predict greedy assholes will still enforce hierarchies and be racist, even without Rhea.
This ending may have been even worse than SB's? Because at least Edelgard still has a goal she's working towards, it just cut off mid-way. Claude accomplished his and nothing changed - he only made the world worse.
Are either GW or SB better endings if you get Byleth? I'm betting that's what happens. Because that can't be the real ending, lol.
MVP time. Wonder when it'll turn into the Lorenz show. As soon as Ch 5, pretty much no one but Lorenz got MVP. He's just absurd, but in a boring way. He's invulnerable to damage, but doesn't play very fun. If I ever did GW again, I'd main Lysithea. She's a unit type I like way more, hella strong and fast, but low defense. Lorenz made GW super boring to play since I didn't have to think at all. He's that good of a unit.
It's funny seeing nothing but Lorenz's face on an endless scroll (except paralogues or like, women units only battles)
I can't believe I'm getting a letter from Lorenz. If I knew I'd get a letter, I would've picked a character I actually liked, like Marianne. Hubert's letter was better. Lorenz's was really generic.
Still pissed there's no paired endings.
And these endings are so bad, wtf. I'm glad I did this twice so I know AG is also just going to randomly end.
xxx

BYLETH EISNER is a man best kept alone to his devices. As a student, Claude didn’t know much about the enigmatic professor who could cleave mountains with his sheer might. As a man after your affections, he only knew that he was an obstacle to his goals. The Ashen Demon wasn’t that discreet when it came to his . . . attraction.
Opening up his journal to find out more on his rival, he knew what kind of horrors he’d find. But it still didn’t prepare him for the lunacy written upon yellowed parchment.

ENTRY 00 — ALWAYS & FOREVER
Why was it that you always, always landed out of my arm’s reach? Wasn’t this a game? A game made to fulfill my desires? A game made to help me escape reality and the agonizing lack of romance in my life?
So why did you always end up with someone else? No matter how many true resets I’ve made, no matter the different ways I’ve approached you and even the extent I’ve isolated you from the other house leaders, you always, always, ended up with one of them.
Hell, it didn’t matter that you assisted Edelgard with her acquisition of Fodlan one time. You still somehow found yourself in the bed of none other than Dimitri himself. The fool always took you in no matter what horrors you caused on him or his allies.
I stared at your old, frail body. Thanks to the Goddess’s aid in this timeline, I’ve never aged a day. I stayed youthful and spry as you and Edelgard grew to rule the new land I had acquired for her.
Your wrinkly skin still felt heavenly to caress. Each second of continuous contact filled me with more and more pleasure; less and less self-control.
Maybe if I were bolder, more radical with my approaches. Maybe if I had just eliminated them all before they stand a chance.
Maybe then I won’t have to just sit and stare but hold you close and cage you within my arms. My snowbird that always deserted me during spring, a being so allergic to sunlight that you ran away from him endlessly despite the warmth he devotedly provided.
I am the Sun. There was no room to argue with that fact.
And I will always be there, shining my unbearably powerful rays of scorching hot light upon you.
Tumblr media
1155 It seems that were born as snow and ice. The closest one might get to the term brigid. Quite fitting since you are set to rule a nation by such a name when your father, the current ruler, passes away.
You weren’t supposed to take the throne at all. Your older brother was a fit heir. He had spares in the form of his children as well. But, as your eldest niece Petra is too young, you had to take responsibility of an entire nation even though you weren’t much older.
1175 After the death of your brother, you were sent to Adrestia as a symbol of newfound trust. However shaky it might be, you had no choice but to fulfill your duties. It seems even from a young age you were already cold, as accounts of you described a mature, straight laced girl. You knew, much earlier than everyone else that despite your high stature in society, you were only but a pawn to time and destiny.
All this came in useful when it was discovered that all Adrestian royal children were kidnapped. So you did not only have to fulfill the role of heir apparent to a country but a country and an Empire. Those who slithered in the dark made your authenticity as new royal kin solid far too quickly. No one even got to question it as you replaced Edelgard’s older siblings in meetings and formal events.
A simple story of your own albeit feigned kidnapping years ago, plus a few spells here in there to change your eye color to purple, guaranteed you a spot next to the Emperor. You lost everything: your identity, your brother, your friends back home; only to have gained a small chance to even take the throne that oppressed you. The Emperor, in turn, also got to keep his position. His luxurious, heavy crown and clothing in exchange for continuing the façade and perpetuating the play.
After Edelgard’s return to the stage, a lot changed. Factions formed left and right on who should take the throne next. Would it be the bastard child that proved to be a worthy heir, or the true child of Adrestia who’s yet to prove herself? But in beyond the glitz and glamor of the stage, you two shared quite a strong bond. You taught Edelgard many of your secrets when it came to the act. How one would stay calm under pressure, and to keep an air of confidence when all you can think of is self-doubt. In exchange, the Agarthans saw you fulfilling your duty as their spy diligently. You rose in the ranks of both areas in the speed of light.
You were determined to free yourself from the shackles, a consequence of the ichor you were blessed with.
Everything had been set.
An escape cometh Spring.
1180 You, Edelgard, and your niece Petra are sent to be the representatives of the Empire in the Officer’s Academy.
I have already planned out what to do for this timeline.
And this time? You won’t be getting away.
Tumblr media
A/N: I couldn’t for the life of me find a Fire Emblem 3H fic that included both the three house leaders and Byleth as romantic interests so I decided to take one out of Thanos’s books and do it (make one) myself.
There will be other yanderes as well but the House Leaders + Byleth are the main ones.
Reader will be the horniest aro, just watch.
I already had a FE3H concept I could have gone to in my Quotev account but was like NAHHHH I WANT REVERSE SAGAU(ish) BUT FIRE EMBLEM. So here we are.
Unfortunately because of how this is formatted I’m not able to make individual chapter warnings but I’ll be making a masterpost where everything is listed.
Fun Fact: In Japanese, Fire Emblem 3H is called 風花雪月 literally translating to Wind (Claude), Flower (Edelgard), Snow (Rhea or in this case, [Y/N]) and Moon (Dimitri). So the white theme is based off of that. I’ve been working on this for so long and wanted to make a house named Ashen Scales to contrast Edelgard BUT NOPE WE GOT THE DLC AND AS MUCH AS I LOVE YURI- AAAAA.
This will be the first and last A/N so don’t worry about these long ass paragraphs happening again.

Rules: pick a song for each letter of your url and tag that many people. my url is too long for that lol
I have a playlist for songs I currently listen to, let's see if it's enought to complete this game… there's not a huge variety of artists tho ^^"
A - Appaloosa by Lor S - Sinktank by Inabakumori O - Overdose by Natori (hi minni!!!! I saw a cover of it in one of your asks lately!!! :3) F - fanfiction by Lor (yes, that's a lyrics video on their official channel xd) T - Tail by Sunmi (when will she come back to Poland TT__TT) S - Sweet Dream from Alien Stage by C!naH / by BL8M (I have both versions on my playlist, yeah) P - Post Shelter by Inabakumori O - Order of Silence from Genshin (ost from Cyno's demo) T - Trafalgar Square by Lor F - FightSong by Eve O - Overture from Jesus Christ Superstar 1996 R - Ruler Of My Heart from Alien Stage ( ‼ spoilers from Alien Stage here ‼ cw: blood, violence, death, panic attack) A - agaki (亜ガキ) by Ora (sometimes the background music skips between left and right side and I love it) N - Nonsense Bungaku by Eve G - A Gentleman's Fantasy from Honkai Star Rail (amazing boss theme!!) E - Ezra Was Right by Grandbrothers (this one starts quite slowly, if you're impatient you can start at 3:15 xD) L - Lagtrain by Inabakumori S - $hrek 2 by Lor (cw: guys without shirts fighting at school)
Lor is a Polish band that I recommend with my whole heart :3
many Eve's MVs are like short animes, I love them so so much
the whole Alien Stage is quite short, because it's basically made of music videos and there's less than 10 rn (here's a playlist for anyone interested) (but it can be quite triggering sometimes)
fuck gachas and their gambling, but genshin and star rail have amazing music
here's a very fun fact: I started listening to Eve and Inabakumori last year on April 17 and May 4 respectively, so about a year ago!!

list 5 topics i can talk on for an hour without preparing any material
this one's difficult!!!! because I can endlessly talk about my fandoms and blorbos........only. I don't feel knowledgeable on anything specific, but I could, however, ramble on about my interests
I'm back to that Stardew Valley Grind™ rn so I could talk a lot about my farm. my first farm. year three, winter, and it's probably the ugliest farm you've ever seen. and. and also. my cyhaino sdv au brainrot. 😳
genshin, especially my ultimate blorbo Alhaitham 🌱 idk, I just like this guy, I saw first leaks and I was like 👉 this guy. this is my dude.
my babeys blue lions from fire emblem 3 houses 😭 I chose them in my first playthrough and I still do NOT care about anyone else (that's an exaggeration, I care about others, but... not as much... 😔) also, Sylvain is there and flirty red guys are my ultimate weakness. I know he can, just, switch to your house if you're playing female Byleth (lol), but I don't want to separate him from his friends 😭 they're all traumatised and need hugs
painting and drawing! lately I fell back in love in traditional art and I picked up acrylic painting, and I'm watching a lot of videos and learning a lot - by my own trial and error too, but it's fun!
various handcraft I learned - embroidery, crocheting, knitting, punch needle, sewing - and stuff I created. I don't do all these all the time, only when I feel like it so.....irregularly lol! but I have lots of ideas and some plans, and unfinished works

pretty sure someone may have already said this but oh well:
AU where Jeralt finds a young Shez who's both still mourning their mother's death and was fairly recently kicked out of the village they were raised in, so he goes: "Well... shit, guess I have another kid now." And now Shez and Byleth are siblings.
However, this doesn't just erase the rivalry Shez and Byleth have in Hopes. If anything it makes it a LOT worse. The Cain Instinct + two brain gremlins who want to kill each other on sight (despite at least one of them not knowing why) is the perfect recipe for all hell to break loose.
Meanwhile Jeralt's just watching all this unfold and is actually proud of how strong his kids are. Though he's also fumbling through every single single parenting book he can get his hands on because he may have never been Dad of the Year, but 300+ years at the monastery and all the shit he's seen could never have prepared him on raising not just one but TWO kids with super powers.

It’s 11 in the morning, I haven’t slept, and I’m thinking about fe3h fanfic “what if” ideas
Like, Jeralt and Byleth were mercenaries. So naturally, when the Dagda and Brigid War in 1175 broke out, Jeralts mercenaries probably were located within the Adrestian Empire- after all, war is profitable for Mercs.
Sure, the conflict mainly targeted House Nuvelle and Barony Ochs territory. But considering the Adrestian capital of Enbarr is coastal, there would’ve been some level of concern to its safety.
So say that Jeralts Mercenaries are hired to patrol Enbarr- or better yet, the outside perimeter of the Imperial Palace.
What if Byleth, through happenstance, found one of the secret entrances to the Palace that led to the dungeons that Edelgard and her siblings were experimented on? Like one of the entrances the Prime Minister Aegir escapes out of jail from in three hopes.
We know Edelgard got out of her experimentations with the crest of flames somewhere around 1175-1176. So this would be the later end of the experiments- most her siblings would be gone, and those that remain would’ve likely be quite unwell. However, she wouldn’t have the crest of flames, and likely wouldn’t have the white hair either- I’m of the mind that it’s the second crest that turns the hair white, and so if the second crest isn’t there, then.. yeah.
Also, if the focus of experiments went by age, Edelgard and her two younger siblings would be alive. Fucked up, far from unscathed, but alive.
What if, upon finding these captive children, Byleth helps them escape? What if the three Hresvelgs go into hiding, by following Jeralts Mercenaries under different names?
And if events played out about the same past that point, what happens when Byleth and Jeralt gets summoned to Garreg Mach? There’s so many ways things would deviate.
Edelgard, at that point, wouldn’t be the flame emperor. Nor would her siblings. She wouldn’t have as heavy of a distrust in others, if she had family and friends in the form of her siblings and Jeralt/Byleth.
The Black Eagles would likely be led by Ferdinand. I think he’d still be a good person, but different focused as his mind would be to prepare to take over the Empire after graduating from Garreg Mach, rather than being a superior to Edelgard like he’s focused on in three houses.
Edelgard, driven not by a desire to destroy the church but to take back her nation from TSLITD, could possibly confide her identity with and ally with Rhea- considering her fondness for Wilhelm Hresvelg, and the whole ‘blood of my blood’ thing with the crest of Seiros. Though I believe she’d still have her strong anti- crest sentiment, she wouldn’t have the resources, the strength, or as much desperation to war with Rhea, and would as such have to find friendlier ways to find change on that front.
Monica wouldn’t have gotten kidnapped and killed- the only reason for that was to pave the way for Edelgard as the flame emperor. Without Edelgard, there would be no Kronya, at least no Kronya as Monica. Perhaps she’d be a library assistant to work under Solon.
There’s a possibility that the death knight, Jeritza, wouldn’t even be a factor. After all, it’s Edelgard that saved Jeritza and took him in.
Especially with the lack of hair change, there’s a good chance Dimitri would immediately recognize Edelgard- which he would’ve thought was a long dead step sister. Perhaps him refinding family could help the poor lad be a bit less traumatized. Dimitri would probably support Edelgards attempt at retaking the imperial throne, as well.
As for Byleth, she gets more emotional as the game goes forward- likely because she’s surrounded by people she deems family or friends. Having the three Hresvelgs in her Mercenary group could mean she finds her emotions sooner.
All that to say I’m *very* unwell, and will not be well until i get this out of my brain and into writing.

may i please request dimitri x bernadetta with the tiny hands and big hands hand holding prompt? (maybe pre timeskip for the extra cuteness/awkwardness) i love this ship so much but it's almost nonexistent T-T
It has been so long since I’ve done a story from Bernadetta’s POV! Time to fix that.
(Currently accepting rare ships! Click here for the info post!)
--
On her first day as the newest member of the Blue Lion house, Bernadetta had been on high alert for anything-- teasing from a certain redhead, more pushiness from a certain pegasus rider, even death.
What she hadn’t expected was for the Professor to hand her a wooden lance as soon as the Lions filed into the training grounds. “Your first assignment is to learn how to fight with this,” Professor had said.
And so Bernadetta claimed the bench furthest from the rest of the class and held her lance miserably. This was too much change for one day. How could the Professor be so cruel? Bernadetta had transferred so she could be more comfortable, not so she could navigate a brand new weapon! A melee weapon at that. Didn’t the Professor know anything about Bernadetta’s fighting style? Weren’t there records or files of this kind of thing?!
Loud footsteps made Bernadetta look up, and she gripped the lance tight on reflex. Prince Dimitri stopped a good distance away. He smiled at Bernadetta and waved. She just stared back, trying to guess what he could possibly want from her.
“Hello,” he said after some silence.
“Hi,” she replied automatically.
“I, um, see you have a lance.” He pointed at her lap.
“Y-Yeah.”
“That’s good. They are fine weapons.”
Bernadetta frowned. Were they? She had been all set with her bow. Maybe this was his way of ordering her to train-- Dimitri was the house leader after all, not to mention a prince.
Dimitri cleared his throat. “Would you care to spar together?”
There weren’t words to describe how bad an idea that was. Bernadetta could only shake her head, prepared to bolt if he insisted.
Instead, Dimitri gave a too-loud laugh and looked away. “Of course not, sorry. That is too much. Um, may I have a seat instead?” He gestured to the other side of the bench.
“Y-You can have it.” Bernadetta shot to her feet. “You can have the whole bench! I’ll find a different bench. Bye!”
Dimitri blocked her escape, both hands up placatingly. “Wait! Please!” Bernadetta took a few steps back and ended up half falling back onto the bench again. Stunned, Bernadetta dropped the lance. It rolled until it hit Dimitri’s boots. They both stared at it for a moment.
Lowering his hands, Dimitri spoke slowly, “I’m sorry if I offended you. I just wish to learn more about you.”
“W-Why?!” Bernadetta’s eyes darted around helplessly. If she could just get the Professor to notice she was in danger--
“Because Professor Byleth has explained that you scare easily, and I thought you might... like a friend.”
All of Bernadetta’s focus went back to Dimitri. She tilted her head at him. “You want to be my friend?” She repeated
He chuckled. “Was my attempt that clumsy? Yes, Bernadetta. I would like to be your friend. At the very least I would like you to be more at ease around me.”
“B-Because you’re the house leader?”
“Well, yes. But also because it’s hard to train with someone you are not comfortable with. I’m not sure if the Professor told you, but we train together a lot in the Blue Lions.”
Bernadetta looked down at her discarded lance. It seemed she wasn’t alone in valuing the comfortable and familiar. “I prefer fighting with a bow and arrow,” Bernadetta confessed. “It keeps me away from people, both enemies and allies. I don’t know how to use a lance and I don’t want to know. T-That’s why I don’t want to spar with you. I’m sorry.”
Dimitri bent and picked up the lance. “You know, the entire point of a lance is to put distance between yourself and your opponent,” he explained.
“It is?”
“See how long it is? This is not a weapon for close quarter combat, like a sword or an axe. It’s best suited for keeping the enemy at bay. I would think that makes it the perfect alternate weapon for you.” Dimitri held out the lance with a small smile. Bernadetta stared at it. Was all that true? It made sense, the more she thought about it. Perhaps she should have trust the Professor’s judgement.
Nodding to herself, Bernadetta stood, stretched out her hand-- and hesitated. What if this whole thing was a plot to humiliate her in front of her new classmates? There was no way she was as strong as the others here. Maybe her aim was good but she didn’t have muscles like Felix or Ingrid. She would make a fool of herself if she started swinging around a lance! Oh why didn’t she run away when she had the chance?!
Dimitri took her outstretched hand. Bernadetta tensed but didn’t pull herself free, too stunned to act. “You do not have to decide right now” he said. “I can speak to the Professor about letting you train with the bow and arrow today, if you like.”
Bernadetta squeezed his hand. “Could you? That would be great! I-I’m sure you’re right that I could use a lance but, it’s just, it’s too much today. I don’t think I can-- I’m sorry.”
Dimitri’s smile softened. “It’s alright. As I said, it’s important to be at ease with your partner. Once you are more comfortable with us, then we can see about getting you comfortable with a new weapon.”
“O-Okay...” Bernadetta looked down at their hands. His were so big compared to hers. It should have been scary, but it was surprisingly comforting. Like he could protect her just by holding her hand.
They stood there long enough that Dimitri cleared his throat again. She looked up to find him blushing. “I should-- I will go speak with Professor Byleth.” Dimitri said. But he didn’t move.
Bernadetta stared. He seemed nervous all of a sudden. What did a big guy like him have to be nervous about? Maybe it was the idea of talking to the Professor. It sometimes made Bernadetta nervous, that was for sure. “I-I’ll go with you! It’s only right, since you’re doing this for me.” Still holding his hand, she began leading them towards the far end of the training grounds where Professor Byleth stood with the rest of the class.
“Um, alright then. Thank you.”
“No problem. It’s honestly a relief to know I’m not the only shy one in this class.” She tried to smile encouragingly at him, but found his cheeks had grown redder. Oh no. Was she embarrassing him? Was she making things worse?! Way to go, Bernie, you just embarrassed the Prince of the Kingdom in front of the whole class!
Then Dimitri smiled down at her. It lit up his eyes and complimented his blush in a way that Bernadetta found almost maybe kind of cute. “I’m not sure if anyone has said this yet but, welcome to the Blue Lion House, Bernadetta.”
That smile caused Bernadetta’s entire face to heat up. She looked away, pushing back panic. “Ah, um, t-thank you,” she managed, squeezing his hand again.
Despite starting off the day in a miserable corner with an unknown weapon in a brand new class, Bernadetta felt strangely optimistic as they approached Professor Byleth. Maybe, with a friend like Dimitri, life as a Blue Lion wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Paladin Bernie
Basically just a mini AU idea I had where a confrontation in the Holy Mausoleum leads to the birth of a rivalry.
Basically I just wanted to let Bernadetta go rage mode and see what happens from there.
Warning: Depictions of violence.
Within the Holy Mausoleum, sounds of steel meeting steel could be heard as the Black Eagles faced off against the thieves from the Western Church.
Professor Byleth had entrusted her students to handle the more basic enemies as she held back the Death Knight, not wanting to let her students risk the armor-clad monster’s ire.
Bernadetta was practically crying as she shot down another Dark Mage with her bow while Dorothea used a Thunder Spell to pick off a Thief.
The Mage and Archer had grown used to working together, having been designated as partners by the Professor near the beginning of the year. Dorothea would be in charge of using her Thunder Spells to deal with enemies who were further away while Bernadetta would use her arrows to keep them from getting closer.
This partnership had allowed the two to become close friends, enough so that Bernadetta was willing to share some of the part of her past that she preferred remained forgotten, including why her fear of befriending Commoners existed.
“Nice shot, Bern!” Congratulated Dorothea with a weak smile. Bernie could tell she wasn’t the only one who wanted to be anywhere but here.
“Th-Thanks Dorothea… let’s just get this done so I can go hide in my room until the Horsebow Moon rolls around…”
“Amen to that…” Said Dorothea drily.
“DIE!” Both girls flinched as they heard the rumble of the Death Knights voice followed by a cry of pain. They turned and saw Byleth go flying through the air and land on her back, her clothes becoming stained with her blood. Slowly the Death Knight’s horse trotted closer as the armored man raised his Scythe, preparing to end their teacher.
“Professor…” Gasped Bernadetta. “No… she’s losing.”
There was a beat of silence before she heard Dorothea speak up. “Not if I have anything to say about it.”
“Huh?” Bernadetta barely had time to question what Dorothea meant before the songstress suddenly rushed in. She saw sparks form around her hand, before casting a Thunder spell that struck the Death Knight, distracting him from Byleth.
“Hey! Guy in the tacky armor! Get away from my teacher!” Shouted Dorothea.
“Do not interfere…” Growled the Death Knight before raising his scythe, which crackled with magic. Dorothea looked up to see a Thunder Spell forming above her, but she was fortunately able to jump out of the way before being hit. The Death Knight prepared to fire off a second bolt of Thunder, one which Dorothea wouldn’t be able to dodge. Fortunately she didn’t have to as an arrow shot through the air and struck the Death Knight’s forearm, throwing off his Counterattack just enough to make the spell miss its target and instead obliterate the shattered remains of a nearby pillar.
“Dorotheaaa!” Cried Bernadetta as she rushed over to her classmate, helping the girl to her feet. “Don’t just run off like that!”
Dorothea chuckled despite the circumstances. “Sorry about that Bern, and thanks for the assistance.” She replied.
“Get out of the way you two!” Byleth’s monotonous, but loud voice carried to the girls, who turned in time to see that within seconds, the Death Knight had turned to instead target them.
Bernadetta froze in place, unable to react in time as the Death Knight’s scythe raised into the air before coming down at her. Her eyes widened as she hear the sound of clothes and flesh alike tearing while blood splattered against the floor.
She then heard Dorothea let out a cough, her blood getting on the purple haired girl’s uniform as her legs gave out, collapsing against Bernadettta as her blood continued to spill from the injury on her back that she’d received when she decided to serve as a human shield to protect Bernadetta.
The weight of her friend caused Bernie to fall to the floor with her friend resting her head and body against her chest and lap while her skirt slowly became soaked with her blood.
“D-Dorothea… you… why…?” She asked, barely able to form words from the shock.
“Because… I’m your friend… silly…” Wheezed the girl weakly, unable to look Bernadetta in the eye as she lied against her, bleeding out.
Bernadetta felt her breath catch in her throat as tears welled in her eyes.
“One down… one to go…” Said the Death Knight menacingly as he raised his scythe to finish the girls off once and for all.
Little did he know that in that moment, everything Bernadetta had experienced up until now flashed before her eyes, including the friendships that she’d forged thus far. Most importantly, her friendship with Dorothea. And then, something inside Bernadetta von Varley snapped.
“DON'T YOU TOUCH HER!” The Death Knight physically recoiled at the sudden shift in personality from the timid girl as she suddenly shouted at him. She then raised her bow and fired off an arrow, managing to go through one of the gaps in his armor and pierce his flesh. He attempted to react with a Counterattack, but before he could he saw the Crest or Indech flash above the girl’s head as she drew her bow once again. “GET AWAY FROM US!” She shouted and fired again, striking another weak point, causing him to stagger back a little. But this time, he was able to react, summoning a Thunder spell and bringing it down on Bernadetta.
Her eyes widened, and in the last moment she managed to push Dorothea off her, sparing the songstress from the lightning, but not herself.
Bernadetta’s cries of pain as she was electrocuted echoed throughout the Holy Mausoleum, drawing the attention of her allies.
Bernadetta let out a pained wheeze after the Lightning subsided before gritting her teeth and drawing her bow again, her unique ability kicking in. “YOU'RE NOT GOING TO HURT ANYONE ELSE!” She shouted before planting a third arrow into the Death Knight, this one managing to hit even harder as the girl forced herself to her feet. Then, the Crest of Indech flashed once more as she drew her final arrow. “NOW DISAPPEAR!” She practically screeched as she fired one last arrow into the Death Knight, sticking it straight into his throat.
“You win this time…” The man’s voice came out slightly gargled thanks to the blood pooling in his mouth as he ripped the arrow out. “But next time will be different…” Then, with a flash of pink magic, he vanished.
Panting and exhausted, Bernadetta felt the effects of her adrenaline fueled rage amp fade away as she fell to her knees. Weakly, she looked over to see her friends still bleeding out on the floor of the Holy Mausoleum. “Doro…thea…” She said softly before collapsing to the floor.
As her vision began to darken, she could hear shouting. She was pretty sure she heard Linhardt’s name being tossed around as she lost consciousness…

Byleth, Ashen Teaching
Thanks for the support and patience as always, @xpegasusuniverse! I had a blast writing this, I hope you like it!
Summary: Byleth had been given the day to explore the Monastery -- the place he would be teaching at, in a few weeks' time -- so he could familiarize himself with the layout and meet the students so he can make a choice... But his answer does not conform to what was expected.
Commission info HERE and HERE!
__________________________
Living the life of a mercenary meant to be ready to face any kind of situation. It meant to be flexible in how to adapt to whatever might come one’s way.
But nothing really could prepare Byleth for the bomb Jeralt threw on his lap last night: not only would they indefinitely extend their stay in Garreg Mach Monastery, Byleth’s services would also be required… as a teacher!
Sure, people in Fódlan came up with monikers for anyone who was a little better than their peers in any kind of field, but just because Byleth was known as the ‘Ashen Demon’, it didn’t mean that he was going to be good enough to be teaching what he usually did in the battlefield.
Furthermore, whatever he knew, he learned from his father, so it made a lot more sense if Jeralt were the newest professor instead of himself, but…
A quiet sigh escaped Byleth’s lips as he made his way to the meeting room Jeralt had told him to go earlier that morning. He was supposed to meet his new “colleagues” and learn more what it meant to be thrown into academia without so much of a warning.
… However, apart from the information Byleth already had on the three young lords and leaders of their respective Houses, — information which they surrendered themselves as they led the march to the Monastery — there wasn’t much to be inferred after meeting Hanneman and Manuela.
They bickered at each other’s every word, so it was hard to maintain a conversation. Byleth actually felt thankful to be given free time to explore the grounds instead, because at least he would be able to be alone with his own thoughts.
Though that might not have been a good idea, either. Since a sudden responsibility had been thrown onto his shoulders, Byleth still felt a little flustered. Meeting the students and learning more about their Houses only confused him more.
What was he supposed to teach? How could he teach these bright-faced younglings anything at all?
The mercenary life was a hard one; one that was laden with death, dust and struggle. To wield one’s weapon against another person required a certain amount of resolve that was hard to find in these children.
The three lords from the previous day seemed used enough to fight so teaching them wouldn’t be a problem, but, as for the rest… Byleth wasn’t much of a feelings person, so he didn’t know how he could approach the issue with the students without being too blunt about it all.
He could clearly picture himself saying something in the likes of, “point the pointy bit of the sword to the enemy and stab. The blood takes a lot of effort to come off so you just get used to the smell after a while.” and traumatizing half of the school.
Many of the nobles enrolled here would inherit positions of power in which they’d most likely never touch their weapons for the rest of their lives, so, another reason for Byleth to be flustered with this entire situation.
Byleth can teach someone how to fight, sure, but what else? What could these kids need from a dusty mercenary that popped up at their front door by accident?
Thinking so deeply he didn’t see where he was going, Byleth didn’t find anything odd with the rugged entrance and uneven, downward pathway he found.
Everything was new, anyway, so why be surprised about a cave or an underground room or something? He didn’t even have a guide.
As the passageway grew larger and his steps echoed farther, Byleth snapped out of his deviations as the torches on the walls danced eerily to the cold wind whistling through the entrance above.
“... Huh,” was all Byleth had to say as he saw an underground city bloom in front of his eyes, the place he would soon know as the ‘Abyss’.
Despite being rather well-lit, warm and spacious, there was a kind of heavy air that only flowed through places dense with misfortune and suffering.
Everything was also much too quiet for the amount of people Byleth sensed around him. It was like the inhabitants minded even the sound of their own steps, as if the area was purposely left as a ghost town.
Looking around, Byleth saw a poorly-lit library, in which some readers minded their own business and never crossed each other’s paths; some kind of a tavern/bar, the noisiest room of the entire compound, though that only meant that it was the only place where whispering could be heard; two flights of stairs going down from each side, leading to some kind of sewer-like structure, with not-so-clean water flowing under a few thin bridges and many, many crates scattered around like a dumpster.
Byleth touched the walls, amazed by how some of them had been knocked down in some extreme ways, despite how sturdy they looked.
A chill in his spine warned him that someone was sneaking behind him, though he couldn’t feel any ill intent. He simply turned around to stare at the person straight in the eye, receiving an exclamation of surprise and a smirk in response.
“Oh-ho, sensed my arrival, eh, surface-dweller?” A too-pretty-to-be-real purple-haired boy approached, and Byleth gathered him as a student by his uniform. “Whoever you are, it doesn't matter much to me. But I do advise getting out of here before you get tangled up in trouble,” the boy said cheekily, checking Byleth out up and down.
“Hmmm…” Byleth took one hand to his chin. “From the looks of it, I wasn’t supposed to stumble down here, huh? It wasn’t that hard to find, though…”
“Hah!” The young man scoffed. “I find it hard to believe that you just ‘stumbled’ across Abyss, but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt, stranger. Are you perhaps… that mercenary-turned teacher I’ve heard whispers about?”
Byleth nodded languidly. “I suppose. I wasn’t assigned to, ah,” he remembered the strange freedom he had been given, “I haven’t chosen where to teach yet, though.”
“Your face’s kinda hard to read, Teach, but lemme guess: Those kids up there are too bright-faced an’ full of hopes about the world, aren’t they?”
“Yeah,” Byleth replied immediately, to which the young man snorted a laugh in response.
“Hey, I like the way you think. Why don’cha consider teaching us, instead?” He lifted his chin smugly.
Byleth looked over the boy’s shoulder to watch as three approaching figures revealed themselves.
“Who’s that, Yuri-bird? He’s too clean to be down here,” a red-haired, crop-top wearing girl leaned on the boy called Yuri with a bored expression.
“Another hapless denizen in needs of guidance? Fear not, poor soul, for I, Constance von Nuvelle-”
“Haha, wait a sec, ya’ll. I haven’t even told him our House name, yet.”
“Muh? Why does the brat need to know it?” A tall, burly man spoke, crossing his arms and creaking his neck as the blonde girl called Constance stomped her foot on the floor for being interrupted.
“Who knows? Maybe him knowing it will help us shed some light down here…” Yuri looked at Byleth with a growing smirk, then winked. “Keep it in mind, alright? We’re…”
The sound of someone slamming a desk echoed through the meeting room.
“You want to teach the Ashen Wolves?!” Seteth exclaimed. “That House was banned to the Abyss for—”
“Seteth, please.” Rhea lifted one hand to make Seteth stand down. “I do not see why not. If that is what this child wants, he can be the one responsible for the Ashen Wolves and Abyss.
“Rhea!!” Seteth hissed, “you cannot be serious! Abyss is a highly classified matter—”
“So no wonder I never heard about it despite being a teacher here for quite some time… I wonder what kinds of knowledge had been buried under these ancient bricks…” Hanneman mused to himself as Manuela frowned beside him.
“I can’t say I’m not appalled about these news, Lady Rhea, Seteth. A fourth house? In the sewers?! And a whole city right under our feet?! I’m not asking to be privy to all of the Monastery’s secrets, but a whole damn town…?”
“Manuela, woman, watch your language! You’re in the presence of the Archbishop!” Hanneman and Seteth both said at the same time, though with differing tones.
“That is alright, you two. I understand Manuela’s shock. Perhaps it is long overdue to allow those children to mingle with the outside world.” Rhea’s voice was calm and serene as ever, though she only smiled when looking at Byleth.
The man himself looked impassible as usual as he watched the scene play out like an unrelated spectator instead of the instigator.
Seteth watched in horror. “Rhea, you don’t mean…”
“Yes,” Rhea nodded. “I shall reinstate the Ashen Wolves as an official House of Garreg Mach Monastery and place Professor Byleth to be in charge of it. Although Abyss has grown now to be its own town separate from the monastery, it would not hurt to offer more of our support as its presence is revealed to the world.”
“Hahhhhhhhhh,” Seteth’s long sigh made all three Professors lower their heads in compassion. “Rhea, are you truly doing this on the whims of a mercenary you just met-”
“Byleth is now a teacher and your colleague, Seteth. Please, do try to get along.” She said with a warm smile, though her eyes were not smiling as much as throwing daggers at him instead.
After along, very long…
Very long pause…
Seteth sighed. “Very well.” he dropped his head in defeat, almost raising an imaginary white flag. “However, our shortage of professors still remains. With one more House to teach, we’re still one teacher short.”
“Jeritza was recommended by the Imperial Princess, was he not? He was supposed to be hired as a part timer only for the swordsmanship class, but if we make him lead the Back Eagles along with the princess…” Rhea mused, which made Seteth’s face distort more and more with each word that left her mouth.
Byleth almost snorted, but keeping his straight face was second nature at that point so he managed to hold it in.
Manuela face-palmed with both hands, but Hanneman seemed to nod and accept it all fairly easily, definitely not because he planned to steal away to the sewers immediately after the meeting, nope. Definitely not.
“Ahem, anyhow,” Hanneman called out, increasingly eager to leave, “seeing as our youngest Professor chose the Ashen Wolves and Jeritza was carefully selected—”
“... more like coerced…” Manuela muttered, downcast.
“... carefully selected as the representative of the Black Eagles, I suppose it is up to us two to choose from the Golden Deers and Blue Lions, is it not, Manuela?”
Mimicking Seteth’s earlier expression, Manuela finally took her face out of her hands. “Yeah. Okay. I’ll get the Blue Lions, then. You’re fine with whichever, right, old man?”
“Humph, more respect would be appreciated, but indeed, I do not mind. Then we are all sorted, Archbishop?” Hanneman tutted to Manuela then immediately turned respectful towards Rhea, who simply kept her smile through it all.
“Indeed. You all must be tired, so you can come back here tomorrow to receive the lesson plans. Until then…” Rhea bowed slightly to take her leave, being followed by a downcast, outright desperate-looking Seteth.
Hanneman left so quickly one wouldn’t believe those movements belonged to a man of his age, and Manuela trudged out with a headache approaching and a promise to drink her worries away tonight.
Jeralt waited for Byleth downstairs (hiding himself behind a pillar as Rhea passed by, just in case) and tapped him on the shoulder.
“Hey, you didn’t choose that house because of your—”
Byleth simply looked up at Jeralt and allowed the corner of his lips to rise smugly. “Who knows.”
“Hah, you funny brat! I’ll never understand your weird sense of humor.”

Challenges in Adapting to a New Life in Enbarr
Summary: Sylvain does not care too much about the Imperial capital. Things are hard to get accustomed to, but none moreso than his former professor.
Rating: T - Suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, minor coarse language, and minor suggestive adult themes.
Words: 1500
Notes: I kinda think that FE focus way too much on its own characters. Like, does the people that switch classes not miss anything else, just their high school friends? Not their parents, the weather, the food, anything else?
Tumblr media
Enbarr was different from Faerghus in every fathomable way. The good and the bad, the beautiful and the ugly.
It was mind boggling, as if Sylvain had fallen through a portal into an alternate universe. The accent, currency, weather patterns, customs, clothing, and religion were all foreign to his eyes and ears. Even breakfast was different, the smoked meats and cured cheeses of Faerghus replaced by waffles drowned in syrup and whipped cream, certainly not the hearty feasts he was so accustomed to.
He does not regret leaving the Kingdom behind, nor he has any misgivings about apostasy on the Church of Seiros, but he feels ill-at-ease. Adrestia is covered in fertile lands and crossed by trading routes into Dagda and Morfis; there is a bountiful to everything that surround him. It makes him think about the people he left behind in his territory, about the starvation and death that must be gripping his homeland. He supposes that it is even more reason to end this war as soon as possible.
Besides, he loathes the noble culture of the Empire. If he once found the Western Kingdom lords pouncy, the cabinet families in the capital are a nightmare. It all becomes a great dance, every choice becomes a great declaration of allegiance and it frankly tires him. Perhaps he is too much of a martial person, perhaps he is able to fall back in other attributes much too often to appreciate the art on it, but he could stand retiring from court every so often.
He feels too much like Felix these days. The next time they meet, he should apologise for all these years of torment, to tell him that his skittish behaviour was justified this entire time.
This whole endeavour has been an adaptation, but that is not even the most difficult part of his new life in Enbarr. It was her.
Byleth, the professor, with her stunning understated smiles and deadly knack for sword fighting, made his little frozen heart feel all loopy inside, as if he were soup stewing over a fireplace. When she walked into a room, in the palace and the tavern alike, smiling, waving to friends and avoiding large crowds, every bit of resolve in him melted away.
Sylvain would just sit there, waving dumbly with a love-struck grin on his face. To everyone else in their crew, the hearts practically blooming in the Faerghusi’s eyes were painfully obvious.
Not to her, though. The irony does not elude him.
He had always been… Attentive towards the buxom teacher, as he is wont to do in these situations, but he is actually, truly serious now. He also knows how Ingrid had advised her explicitly to ignore him, something she has taken to heart.
Now that he means what he says and tries to amend his behaviour into a proper contender, somehow, the professor missed it. Entirely. While, again, he became the talk of the company, it was as if she was blind to his now proper flirting. The pulling out of a chair for her, complimenting her new knives, having the cook prepare her favourite breakfast. He had heard a chorus of thanks drop from her lips, but they were friendly, always friendly.
So now here Sylvain stood, lingering along the wall of the seedy tavern they, along with the rest of foreign implants and commoners in the elite of the Imperial Army, frequent often, watching his friends and acquaintances celebrate the transition from fall to winter. He does not quite understand the festivities. To his eyes, winter is something to be feared, not celebrated, and Enbarr always seemed to have this golden sunshine glow that reflected on the terracotta and the murky channels leading to the harbour, no matter the season. The only change was maybe a temperature drop.
He showed up, nevertheless, a drink clutched in his hand and his eyes keen in watching her. Head tossed back, a slight laugh ringing out, she was in her element when in a small friend gathering. It is the one true time she emerged from her shell. Leonie held her hands, twirling their bodies in circles violently until they nearly wiped out, slamming into a stack of chairs.
Silent like a mouse, Dorothea slipped out from the shadows and into the empty spot by his side. Her eyes were trained on Ferdinand’s form, slouched over at the bar. He once would never think to catch this man in such a place, but it seems that infatuation is vexing even to prissy nobles of age-old dynasties.
“Go talk to him,” Sylvain whispered, trying his hardest not to smile like a fool.
The idea of the great scion of the Aegir family and Dorothea hitting it off was delightfully intriguing.
“And why don’t you go talk to the professor, hm?” She bit back in a sharp retort, the corners of her mouth cleverly turning up.
The little rapport he built with the former singer was the most meaningful relationship he managed to acquire in the city, and it was mostly built on their common ill-fate in their affections. Nevertheless, he appreciated her company greatly.
“She…” His words trailed off into thin air as he watched her, becoming entranced by the woman’s dance.
“I hope you know that she does like you.” The brunette provided, breezily.
“You don’t know that.” Sylvain whispered, squeezing the glass in his hand tighter with irritation.
“Oh, but I do!” Dorothea teased, elbowing him right in the ribs. “Byleth over there may be a bit of an oddity, but not so much so she is completely unrecognizable to her fellow women. Believe me, we have ways of figuring each other out. You would, too, if you weren’t so absorbed in yourself. It went right over your head.”
“But why…?”
“She doesn’t make a move because she thinks you’re just being friendly.” The singer cut him off, providing him with the answer he sook. “Our conditions changed, and it would be expected for your behaviour to change accordingly. The issue is that she is not experienced enough to understand what truly motivates it, and this is why you should be the one to make the move.”
Like she was simply an extension of the shadows, Dorothea slipped back into the darkness easily with a wink. Swirling his glass, Sylvain tipped back the remainder of his drinking, hoping it would act as a sort of liquid luck for him. He certainly needed it.
Steeling himself, standing just a bit taller and drawing in a shaky breath, he stepped out towards her. As if on cue, Leonie gave a mischievous grin and a wink, excusing herself to fetch a drink. He might be owing her the tab this evening.
Byleth sighed happily, running her hands over her face as if the long evening hours were finally catching up to her. He silently stood in place, watching her smile from ear to ear like a blithering idiot.
“Would you honour me with a dance?” He asked, despising the way his voice sounded so meagre and frightened.
Turning on her heel to face him, eyes wide like a startled deer standing before a rattling wagon, her smile softened shyly.
“Oh, hello, Sylvain. Do you want to dance?” She tripped over her words, the syllables tumbling and teetering upon her lips. Whether it is from nerves or alcohol, he could not say.
“If you’ll have me.” He replied, feeling a warm flush creep up his neck and onto his cheeks.
With a nod, Byleth carefully took his hand, her fingers shaking within his large hand. It reminded him starkly of the snow bunnies he had found as a child, little babies freezing in the frigid cold. Of course, he would wrap them up and take them inside, warming them beside the fire before they were free to go on their merry way.
In swaying with her, twirling with her as the others did, he swore he felt a bit of Faerghus itself in her. Her eyes gleamed like the sun reflecting off the ice, burning his eyes in the most delightful way. She was the pure white snowfall, small animal tracks zig zagging in intricate patterns. She was that untamed wild, all the best pieces of it: wildflowers sprouting after the last hard frost, icicles adorning trees, new pups born in the spring.
So, as Sylvain danced, fumbling along in the most gangly way possible, he found himself beginning to laugh. A smile stretched itself across his face mirroring the one she sported as she twirled around him losing herself to the music. There was some part of her, that timid and chilly portion that fell away once she found herself, that seemed so ethereal, so organically her.
Yes, it was just the beginning but somehow Sylvain just knew. He knew this type of love would not be like the seasons, coming and going and changing. It would be finally consistent.
His love for her would be forever.

What is your interpretation of the reasoning behind Dimitri leaving Edelgard behind like that in the ending of AG?
*cracks knuckles* It's all down to how different Dimtri's character arc in Azure Gleam is to his arc in Azure Moon, and how that shapes his mental state when he goes to fight Edelgard.
I could go a lot deeper into the nuance, but to put it very bluntly - Azure Gleam's Dimitri really isn't that different to the Dimitri we met in White Clouds. He's White Clouds Dimitri with a stronger support system. Which means that Azure Gleam Dimitri is the same guilt-ridden, suicidal revenge seeker as White Clouds Dimitri.
In Azure Moon, Dimitri falls on major hard times, loses Dedue, is framed for his uncle's death, lives in the slums for four years, has an atrocious life. His desire for revenge drives him in his war against the Empire, and he slams right into a brick wall when his revenge quest leads to Fleche's attempt to avenge her brother Randolph. Dimitri's revenge quest stutters to a halt when it gets Rodrigue killed, and his conversation with Byleth afterwards leads to him questioning how important revenge for the dead vs the value of those that are still alive, and what it is that he wants to live for.
In the end, he abandons his revenge and chooses to defend the Kingdom to protect the people living there. He enters negotiations with Edelgard, and though they fall through he goes to fight her in Enbarr with at least a shred of hope that there's still a chance they can work things out. Enough to offer her his hand, at the end.
In Azure Gleam, he has no such realisation. Though he is still a just and kind king, his drive for revenge carries him throughout the story. He executes everyone involved in the Tragedy of Duscar. His motivation to fight Edelgard isn't just to protect the Kingdom - it's to ascertain her role in what happened. And he invades Adrestia because the atrocities the Empire is committing are unacceptable. He goes to Enbarr well aware that he's going to kill her.
Though I don't find much value in the "secret chapter", it does establish a few things about Dimitri and Edelgard's current dynamic in their conversation.
One, is that Dimitri finds no point in trying to figure out Edelgard's goals or reason with her. He has not reached the point he did in Azure Moon that he no longer wants her as his enemy. Two, is that Dimitri gets some solid evidence that Edelgard at least somewhat remembers their childhood together. Somewhat. And three - that despite the fact he's aware that they are going to fight to the death once this is over, Dimitri still cares about her enough to reach out his hand to her when they aren't actually enemies.
Which leads into two very different frames of mind for Dimitri in the finales -
Azure Moon: Dimitri, hoping to find peace with Edelgard but prepared to kill her if they can't, fights an Edelgard that has turned herself into a monster for her own ideals. Despite her transformation, he still finds it within himself to offer her compassion. In the end, despite wanting to avoid it, Dimitri has to kill her.
But that death was Edelgard's choice, and Dimitri accepts that. And Dimitri mourns her. He really hoped they could be close again. He optimistically wanted to work with her again - but Edelgard refused.
Azure Gleam: Dimitri goes to Enbarr to kill Edelgard - no other options. He doesn't want to save her. He doesn't think they can reach an understanding. He doesn't even want to talk to her - "too many have died for us to have a meaningful conversation". At this point, she has to die.
But unlike Azure Moon, where Edelgard willingly corrupts herself here, Edelgard has been forcibly made some form of "pure" - a child that doesn't understand what she's doing and has no control over her actions. She is Thales' brainwashed puppet, mentally a child, and Dimitri is made well aware of that.
When Edelgard looks up at him and calls him Dee, when Edelgard has at that point potentially already told him she does not remember him - at that point, I'm pretty sure Dimitri has put two and two together and realised that this isn't Edelgard the Emperor anymore; this is El, the girl he used to love.
And despite wanting to kill her, he finds himself unable to. But at the same time, he no longer has any compassion for her and has no interest in making amends, renewing their friendship or working with her. So honestly, I think he just kinda. Shuts down. He wasn't prepared for this. So he just walks away. I think he just wants nothing more to do with her at that point.
tl;dr:
Azure Moon: Dimitri doesn't want revenge anymore, wants to work with Edelgard, is forced to kill her instead. Wanted to work with her, can't, mourns her death.
Azure Gleam: Dimitri still wants revenge, is ready to kill Edelgard, finds himself unable to. Never thought he could work with her, can't deal with her not being the enemy he expected, ollies out.
For a lot of reasons I think Azure Moon's Dimitri is a more powerful and engaging character, in that he tries to have compassion even for his enemies. In Azure Gleam he absolutely does not, and his revenge crusade just kind of awkwardly grinds to a halt lmao

Fate Is Not Done With You Yet
Day 3 Prompt: Crimson Flower, a ficlet for @claudelethweek2022
TW: death mention Pairing: mlm claudeleth
He watched helplessly as his soldiers were cut left and right by empire soldiers. Hilda’s corpse was drowned in a sea of crimson and gold banners and the cries of men. Sea water and blood intermingled into an unbearable scent. He knew that the might of the empire was not to be underestimated and so he prepared for the possibility of defeat. Even so, the swiftness in which Edelgard’s army overran his was surprising, his own reinforcements were not enough.
Eventually he came face to face with the emperor herself. But it was the man that stood next to her who his attention was focused on.
Byleth. In another time, he would have chosen him. In another time, they would have fought together, won together. Claude had long accepted that Byleth was interested in serving other people, but every now and then he entertained the thought of Byleth being by his side.
Reality was just too cruel however, only a defeated man stood in front of Byleth. Not an equal, not a friend.
They heard his pleas and they talked amongst themselves. Byleth turned back to look at him, his eyes and expression soft(or was he just imagining that?). Edelgard turned back as well, “You may go, as long as you agree to not cause more trouble in the future. Next time, I will not be so forgiving.”
And so Claude left, turning his back on Fodlan forever. Knowing that it would be unlikely that anyone he met here would come across him in Almyra.
-
Byleth watched as Claude boarded a ship onto an unknown destination. He was effectively exiled and Byleth wondered where that would take him.
The sails of Claude’s ships were being raised along with the anchor. Byleth kept watching. He tried to spare the lives of some of his former students, and Claude will certainly not be his last attempt if he could help it. He was no longer bound to the church like in his brief teaching period, instead he was bound by the empire and his desire to protect his former black eagles. But a part of that desire extended to all his students.
Claude’s ship had left the docks, becoming smaller by the minute. Shamir had once suggested to Byleth, long ago, that he should travel the world outside of Fodlan when he first inquired about Dagda. Now with Fodlan slowly coming into Edegard’s control, he wondered if he should take Shamir’s advice. When everything was over, he could go anywhere; do anything. He would be free. Perhaps he might even run into Claude.

Also, I would say... the ending for Golden Wildfire is not as bleak as it may seem? The ending text crawl says that Claude offers the Kingdom and Empire terms for a ceasefire, and on that the narration says that “the outcome remains uncertain.” However... we literally get several scenes of Dimitri chafing under his obligation to defend the Church, and right before the final mission, Dimitri literally tells Gilbert that if Claude kills Rhea, Dimitri is willing to cut the Church loose.
Tumblr media
It's good to know that there's more to the ending and its ambiguity! If it weren't for...certain things about this route that precede it, I'd actually be pretty intrigued and excited by the inherent possibilities of it!
Unfortunately I have to ask: can the three nations come out of this equally intact, when Claude has already restructured the governance of the Alliance? When he has used his agreement with Edelgard to quash dissenting nobles from Leicester attempting to defect? When he has killed a foreign prince, the consequences of which may yet be looming past the eastern mountains? The Leicester Alliance has already been irreparably changed, and he may have brought an even greater war marching toward their doorstep; we know he doesn't have full support for his whole "King of the Alliance" restructuring, and the last time Almyra invaded it took the Empire's support to drive them back, and they weren't coming off a war at that point. Even if Adrestia and the Kingdom pitched in to fight the Almyrans, if the attack comes on the heels of this war, how likely is it that they'll succeed against a force that has been waiting and preparing rather than mired in conflict?
It's not necessarily that I think Claude's faith has been misplaced. My biggest issue is that I feel they took entirely the wrong approach with his character. For Dimitri, it sounds like they chose to make his realization that his life has intrinsic value be the aborted part of his character arc: his strong focus on righting the wrongs of the past with respect to Duscur, social reform to uplift the poor and downtrodden, etc. all remain intact, but he never learns that lesson that the dead are gone and have no power over his life. With Claude, for some unknown reason, they chose to make him betray his core ideals of unity through diplomacy and building bridges through understanding: he kills his brother without considering the consequences, he apparently kills Rhea out of the unfounded belief that her death will end the war without ever trying to understand the deeper mysteries or machinations that brought them to this point (though in fairness I haven't heard a lot about the endgame)...sending terms for a ceasefire is all well and good, but by that point he's already burned his ethos and scattered the ashes.
I really, really wish that they'd held true to his core ethos from Three Houses and instead made his aborted character arc about his trust issues. One of my biggest complaints about the demo was just how fast he threw his trust in with Shez: it took him most of the Academy term to open up to Byleth in any significant way, but he's throwing his lot in with Shez after two to three months? I just don't buy it, with how his character was established in Three Houses. It feels like they minimized his trust issues, gutting the core of his actual character growth in Three Houses and leaving them with only his ethos to destroy. If they had bothered to keep the trust issues, they could have paralleled Dimitri's arc by having his core ethos and beliefs remain intact while keeping him from learning the most valuable lessons that he learned with Byleth -- for Claude, namely, learning to trust his allies with not only important tasks but with the dangerous truths of his background and heritage.
But maybe that would have been too subtle. I mean, Dimitri not learning to value his own life seems pretty subtle but powerful, so I'd think that Claude not opening up and trusting his allies with the fact that he's half-Almyran and a foreign prince would be equally telling, but what do I know.

Writer Never Have I Ever game! Hm hm hm time loop AU?
I have actually written two time loop fics! Unsurprisingly they are both for FE3H, since time travel and time looping is canon to that game and drives multiple plot points within it. The first one is about Claude navigating how to deal with a grieving looper who cannot stand to let go now that their family is gone after the events of the game are finished, and is now sucking them all into a continuous loop so that they can continue to keep everyone by their side, which was quite chewy to write. Claude is such a smart character, and the fact that he figured this all out when he doesn't remember the loops! I love him
The second one is a bit more traditional, retry until you get it right, loop where Byleth is attempting to avert Edelgard's death during an assassination attempt. Very tropey, but well received.
I did have another idea that I have wanted to write for years and years now, for FFXV, but it was just soooo niche. There's a character in the game with the moniker "the immortal" who joined the army at 14 with mega impressive skills as a gutter rat and ascended to be one of the king's most trusted advisors. The fic was supposed to be Cor landing on the field of battle and a la Edge of Tomorrow, being under prepared, unequipped, and completely unable to fight. During the ambush the prince would be killed, and the gods watching over him would not allow that to happen - and thus pick out Cor as their unfortunate looper, who has to figure out how the hell to fight and save the prince's life, which would then lead into how good he is, and how he meets Regis and becomes a part of the inner circle of the future king. I still love the idea!! But it never seemed to go anywhere for me, alas 😔
Fic never have I ever ask meme
