Releasing Today, Feb 27 2024!
Alone in the Crowd is a puzzle point and click where you're in a room and you have to find people in a jail thing called "the box?". You're working with this weird AI named boxy. It's one of those Papers, Please kinda experiences so I totally feel like it'll go dark at some point.
Slippy The Frog is a minigame mashup in the style of WarioWare. It looks like there's a lot of good random heehoo in here.
Guragura Oden is a stacking puzzle game that makes me hungry. It's not a Suika Game clone surprisingly.
Next Sweetstop is a psychological horror came where you have to survive your job in a gas station - at night.
Code Zodiac is a boss rush beat-em-up with fighting game mechanics like move canceling. It's got a full story and world attached so it's got some atmosphere to deliver.
Hey, a city sim ^
Terror at Oakheart is a side scrolling horror game that has a LOT of story going on it seems. It's like they took the normal slasher tropes and mushed them all into a new story. Don't get attached to anyone, they probably all die.

Builders of Greece due to let you display your strategy on Linux
Tumblr media
Builders of Greece city builder game is running tests for Linux with Windows PC ahead of the Prologue. Which is the result of the work from BLUM Entertainment and Strategy Labs. Working to make its way into a Steam release. As announced in the recently published Content RoadMap. Now Blum Entertainment moves on to the next stage of its project development. Due to open a dedicated Builders of Greece: Prologue Steam Page. From now on, players from all around the world can add the Prologue to their Steam Wishlist. Due to try their hand as a ruler of an ancient Greek city state. This is also a pre-release version of the game due in Q2 2023. The Prologue will be based on a story scenario. One whose main goal is to introduce the player to basic mechanics. Which also includes the managing systems and the general vibe of Builders of Greece. But we also have news regarding Linux, in the works.
As for the Linux support - we are still running tests. But rest assured that we will do our best to provide such support.
The development of Builders of Greece looks like it may have a Linux build. Thanks to a community forum comment, the developer is running tests. As for myself, I hope the Prologue will include Linux support. This would be a welcomed addition for the community.

Okay so since we did Chinggis, how about the other Big Conqueror Generals? Alexander of Macedon, Attila, Timur, Napoleon?
(Several asked for some of these in other asks)
Alexander the Pretty Good: So at this point I think everyone knows that his father Phillip was the "state builder", who created the new systems of Macedonian drill and mobilization infrastructure, handing Alexander a strong army he did not build. And Greece really was hitting a nadir of power, the post-Spartan era fragmenting alliances and exhausting the stronger city states. So it is fair to say that Alexander is overvalued, any Macedon king probably could have taken over Greece at that time. Additionally, when you study his "vast" conquests, its actually really just Greece & then Persia like five times, its him beating one opponent and then mopping up, and having the material advantage most of the time once you get rid of the hagiography.
But starting from Alexander the Great's height gives you an extremely long way to fall; he is overvalued, but still incredibly high VOR. He has the irreplaceable synergistic value of ambition & charisma; he decided to conquer the world, and got a huge list of allies, often ones he had himself fought in battle, to help him do it. Most people never conceive of that as actually being possible - in particular Alexander was not provoked or forced into his confrontations with Persia (establishing hegemony over Greece was more of a coincidence, but I think he would have found an excuse). And while his military achievements are exaggerated he obviously was talented, particularly at logistics - projecting power that wide is a nearly unparalleled feat in his time, and not something Macedonia was built to do before him. So I will go with A+
Atilla is discussed here, weak, C-/D+
Timur - never studied him actually! Its my issue being a Europe & East Asia guy, I know Gengis/Temujin because he is tied up with the Jin, but Timur never quite got around to the Ming conquest
Napoleon: Very complicated, provisional opinions. The Napoleonic wars scope is in fact quite contingent; its a constant back and forth of revolutionary ambition from France to spread itself, reactionary forces in the monarchies to fight back, rebellions and opportunities. Napoleon was not someone who engineered the whole thing by any means, he was given a chance to shine and he took it. Revolutionary France, constantly at war, was pretty much always going to arrive at something like a military leadership.
Additionally, he often gets too much credit for civil reforms of things like the Napoleonic Code; the process for formulating the Code started in the first National Assemblies in 1791, and multiple drafts of a new, universal code had been made when Napoleon was in power. He ordered it to stop dillydallying and make it happen, don't get me wrong, that is points. But its also the kind of thing dictators can do, right? So its a bit of a question of how likely a military ruler centralizing authority at all in France was. I think kind of high? I don't view Napoleon as an Augustus figure. So I think his VOR would have had kind of similar power. Napoleon did not have grand insights into what the legal code should, from what I know. On things like these I think he is getting credit for the fact that his name in in the title that maybe he shouldn't.
But there is a reason he became Emperor of France - he is a grade A military genius. His rep here is deserved - of course he was taking advantage of smart officers, existing innovations, etc, dude ain't forging cannons himself. But he put it all together, truly did push the use of artillery forward, and he was tirelessly creative on the battlefield. He was a famous workaholic, memorizing every map and coordinating every part of the battle himself, in ways that just put him ahead of the curve of his opponents. He is a classic OODA loop guy - he is getting information, putting a plan forward, getting new information, and pivoting the plan faster than everyone else, and he keeps winning on the back of it.
And then the rep you get from that string of wins inspired morale, commitment, diligence, and more from his men and officers that compounds. That last part is important - making an army takes time, its about relationships. You couldn't just slot the Duke of Wellington in as commander of the French and expect it to work the same. Due to that, the VOR for having Napoleon leading your armies in 1805 is literally irreplaceable. There is not single other person in existence who can deliver greater value, and I think that is very clear - and at margins that are very rare.
But of course he has his share of mistakes, particularly in naval affairs, over time his enemies internalize his innovations, and his reach exceeds his grasp. In particular he had multiple opportunities to "settle" for gains where France is first amoung equals, and he doesn't take it, and it all comes undone. He could have been S tier if he learned that. But alas, I think it puts him at A.

Decorative Sunday!
These beautiful engravings are from the first volume of The Antiquities of Athens by Scottish archeologist, architect and artist, James Stuart (1713-1788) and British artist and architect, Nicholas Revett (1720-1804), printed in London by John Haberkorn in 1762.
The Tower of the Winds is an octagonal marble clock tower in the Roman Agora of Athens. It was designed by Andronicus of Cyrrhus around 50 BC. It was a functional structure that contained sundials, a waterclock, and a wind vane. It is an ancient equivalent of a modern day meteorological station. The building became more widely known outside of Greece because of Stuart and Revett, who were among the first to document the antiquities and monuments of Athens in great architectural detail. Their work is noted for fueling the Greek Revival, an architectural movement in northern Europe, the United States, and Canada in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. When the first volume was published they had more than five hundred subscribers, mostly architects and builders.
The engravings were made by the British engraver James Basire (1730-1802), who specialized in prints depicting architecture. Artwork by Basire is held in museums throughout the world. He is also known for having the young William Blake (1757-1827) as an apprentice for seven years.
The well known artist William Hogarth (1697-1764) published a satirical print called The Five Orders of Periwigs in which he classifies the ridiculous wigs that were in fashion at the time into “orders” with greatly detailed measurements. This was a direct satire of Stuart and Revett’s work and similar work of which he said “It requires nor more skill to take the dimensions of a pillar or cornice, than to measure a square box.”
The tower’s frieze depicts the eight winds in bas-relief represented figuratively as gods, the Anemoi: Zephyrus, the West wind; Boreas, the North wind; Kaikias, the North East wind; Apeliotes, the East wind; Eurus, the South East wind; Notus, the South wind; Lips, the South West wind; and Sciron, the North West wind.

Another weird question when did the….uuuh…glamorization of the Roman civilization began? I thought the Roman Empire was a abusive regime (especially towards provinces like Britannia) to Western Europe. So when did the Europeans decided to romanticize the Romans?(pun intended)
Because Rome went from being one of many city-states in the Italian Peninsula to being the center of the most powerful empire in the world between the fifth century BC and the first century AD.
From Rome, Europe got its languages, law, philosophy, and most importantly Christianity, it was viewed as Europe's own cradle of civilization along side Greece.
Rome was no more abusive than any other regime back then, even the Gauls and other tribes were as bad, or worse, however, the people's conquered by Rome and living in its provinces enjoyed a much higher standard of living than those living outside of its borders.
Roman citizens paid taxes and in return enjoyed safety, stability, increased commerce, and the technological benefits of Roman roads and Roman aqueducts. Roman sanitation systems not only created a more pleasant environment, but also drastically reduced disease.
While some civilizations are remembered for massive monuments, the Romans are remembered as builders of civilization. We still use Roman numerals, and our calendar is almost exactly the same as the Romans. Our planets are named after Roman deities.
Rome’s advances lived on in the countries and regions that would come to dominate the world in a few hundred years.
Yet none of the successors of Rome were as grand, and as large and powerful as Rome in the period following the decline of the Roman Empire.
But to answer the question of when this started, it began immediately after the collapse of Rome, when the German chieftain Odoacer deposed the last Roman emperor of the West, Romulus Augustulus, 476 AD.
Odoacer became the first barbarian King of Italy, initiating a new era. With the backing of the Roman Senate, Odoacer thenceforth ruled Italy autonomously, paying lip service to the authority of Julius Nepos, the last Western emperor, and Zeno, the emperor of the East.
Rome never truly fell, its influence and name carried so much weight across Europe no nation or people would declare it was dead, instead each nation that gained power would declare themselves Rome's successor.
The most enduring and significant claimants of continuation of the Roman Empire have been, in the East, the Ottoman Empire and Russian Empire, which both claimed succession of the Byzantine Empire after 1453; and in the West, the Holy Roman Empire from 800 to 1806.
Separately from claims of continuation, the view that the Empire had ended has led to various attempts to revive it or appropriate its legacy, notably in the case of Orthodox Russia.
There's also Imperial Spain, Fascist Italy which was called Third Rome, Napoleonic France, Austrian Empire, the Greeks in 1844 through the Byzantines, and the German Empire.
Hell, Rome held so much weight that the Church is considered a continuation of the Empire, even Constantinople was considered the second Rome.
Today only one entity is trying to be like Rome today, and it isn't the US, it's the EU.
Memories of the Roman Empire have accompanied the European Union since its inception with the 1950 Schuman Plan. The Roman Empire has provided the European Union, like many countries, with Roman legal concepts and their language, Latin.
As such Latin has been used as one non-official lingua franca in the European Union, for example by EU Institutions using Latin concepts in texts and titles.
The comparison of the European Union with the Holy Roman Empire, in a both negative and positive light, is an all too common trope of political commentary.
The EU has been viewed as a reincarnation of a foreign and overbearing Roman Empire in some European countries, particularly the United Kingdom.
The 2020 withdrawal of the UK from the Union, or Brexit, has been variously compared with the Rebellion of Boudica or the end of Roman rule in Britain.
A different negative view of the EU as a new Roman Empire has been used in Christian circles in the US.
According to that view, the EU, like other supranational endeavors such as the United Nations and World Bank, by attempting to revive the Roman Empire, signals the approaching end time, rapture or Second Coming, these Christian circles are usually fundamentalist in their teachings.
Occasionally, the EU is portrayed as a Fourth Reich. This critique is often portrayed as fringe in media despite the fact the EU is Hitler's wet dream.
Oh yes, and we can't forget, the League of Nations, the UN's predecessors were seen as the start of a new Roman form of rule.
The French historian Louis Eisenmann, in a 1926 article titled The Imperial Idea in the History of Europe, chose to portray the newly created League as the modern expression of an imperial idea that had been degraded by the German Empire, Habsburg monarchy and Russian Empire.
He argued that the three empires' final demise and the League's establishment represent a renewal of the Pax Romana.
In a sense he was right, since the end of WWII, we have been living, at least in the west, in a pseudo Pax Romana, an era of unprecedented peace, though I suspect it won't last the 200 years required to be the Golden Age of Roman Peace.

St. David’s Day Special: The Dragon Prophecy
~ ~
Welcome to Celtic Month! For the entire month of March, the Spring Vignettes series will be dedicated entirely to Celtic homage vignettes. Non-Celtic pieces will resume in April.
Quick clarification: It’s pronounced Keltic, unless it’s a sports team; and even then, any linguists in the room will cringe if you pronounce it Seltic.
Our first Celtic Month piece celebrates St. David’s Day, on March 1st, the national day of Wales. Have some cheese toast! Pet a dragon! Kiss a Welshman, if you can find one.
Before you read what the piece means to me, share what it means to _you_. I’m just the artist; you’re the beholder.
~ ~
The Welsh are the survivors of the Celtic Britons, who were the inhabitants of all southern Britain before the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes invaded and established what became England. “Welsh” is an Anglo-Saxon term; it means “other people” or “foreigners”, which is ironic, considering the Germanic-speaking peoples were the foreigners in the native lands of the Britons.
There is certainly no more famous Welshman than King Arthur Pendragon, a legendary king of yore who supposedly ruled Britain between the retreat of the Romans and the invasion of the Saxons. His legend, much-developed over the centuries, became well-known throughout Europe in later times.
A notable legend tells of the building of Dinas Emrys, a castle on a hill by the Glaslyn river. By some accounts, it was built by Uther Pendragon, father of King Arthur; by other accounts, it was Vortigern, the same foolish king of the Britons who later invited the Saxons into Britain as mercenaries to defend the Britons from the Picts.
After the king had chosen the hill on which the castle would stand, his builders went to work; but every day, they built up the walls, only for them to topple overnight. No progress could be made. At length, the king asked his wisemen to find the cause and the solution to the problem.
His wisemen told him that for the building to succeed, a sacrifice would be necessary; and the sacrifice must be a boy not sired by mortal man. Such a boy existed; a young boy named Merlin, or Ambrosius, the baptized son of a devil, who would go on to be known for his abilities in the magic arts.
(Foundation sacrifices were once an incredibly widespread custom; we know from archaeological evidence that the burying of a human victim under the foundation of an important building was practiced in ancient Ireland. Similar legends are told in Romania, Greece, Japan, and elsewhere. Animals were later buried under foundations after human sacrifices ceased.)
The boy was brought to the hill; and the king’s wisemen told the king to sacrifice him to appease the heathen gods so that the castle could be build. But the boy laughed at their advice, and told the king he knew much better. He told the king that if a hole were dug, there would be found a deep, dark pool; and in that pool, there would be found two dragons, one red, one white; and it was the fighting of these dragons that shook the hill each night and made the walls collapse. The king had a deep hole dug; and indeed, there was found a deep, dark pool; and from that pool indeed emerged two dragons, one red, one white.
Freed from their imprisonment, the dragons fought viciously, until, despite being the lesser of the dragons, the red dragon defeated the white dragon, and drove it out of the land across the sea.
The boy then prophesied that, just as the red dragon triumphed over the white dragon, so the Britons would triumph over the invading Saxons.
And they did; until the death of King Arthur at the hands of his son Mordred, whereafter, the Saxons finally defeated the Britons, and drove them into the western mountains.
The great Welsh sagas, the Mabinogion, tell about how the two dragons originally became trapped under the site of Dinas Emrys, when an ancient Welsh king intoxicated them with a cauldron of ale and buried them to silence their deafening shrieking.

Sims 4 Disney Ancestor Challenge (Choose Your Own Adventure)
Sims 4 Disney Ancestor Challenge (Choose Your Own Adventure)
Welcome to the Disney Ancestor Challenge! There are a lot of Disney Sim Challenges, but none fit exactly what I wanted. I created a challenge with the legacies in historical era order and with multiple generation characters from which you can choose to play! This is a very long challenge, but no worries you can always cut movies you don’t want to play (Just make sure to check any requirements from the previous generation). Each of the 37 Legacies (number subject to change with future movie additions) offers 2-3 characters to choose from. I am very excited to play and hope you enjoy it! To see the full challenge click the link to the google Doc.
RULES:
Always read ahead one generation so you don’t miss anything while playing the current generation. This is especially important when choosing the different character options. For Example: If you play as Ariel for Gen 14 then Gen 13 needs to have seven children, but if you choose to play as Eric then they only need to have one child. This will also help in not having repeat aspirations and careers if you pick the character you want to play beforehand.
Must Complete Aspirations and Careers unless specified.
If you are playing for historical accuracy then you may change the aspirations and careers to better fit the era, but must still complete these.
If your sim is an orphan then they start with no simoleons.
Some categories do not specify marriage. If it is unspecified then it is up to you to determine what fits your storyline best.
Have fun! Remember to play the game in a way that makes you happy. If something doesn’t work for you or you don’t have a pack then change the rules to better suit your gameplay!

A cyclops (meaning 'circle-eyed') is a one-eyed giant first appearing in the mythology of ancient Greece. The Greeks believed that there was an entire race of cyclopes who lived in a faraway land without law and order. Homer, in his Iliad, describes the Cyclopes as pastoral but savage, typical of the strange creatures the Greeks created to represent foreign societies not regarded as civilised as themselves.
The Cyclopes are not without talents, though, and are credited with manufacturing the thunderbolts which Zeus used as a terrible throwing weapon and as the builders of gigantic fortification walls such as those still seen at Mycenaean sites today. The most famous cyclops is Polyphemus, who captured the Greek hero Odysseus and his men only for them to escape by blinding the poor giant. Cyclopes, and particularly the Odysseus story, were popular and enduring subjects in all forms of Greek and Roman art.

Legendary Warrior Women of the Ancient World
Once upon a time, there were women who challenged the might of empires and the laws of men.
They beckoned a world where the whisper of a woman's voice could quake the thrones of tyrants.
Let's delve into these legends from antiquity. 🧵⤵️
Tumblr media
Hatshepsut
The fifth pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt, Hatshepsut reigned longer than any other woman of an indigenous Egyptian dynasty.
She was one of the most prolific builders in Ancient Egypt.
To legitimize her reign, Hatshepsut claimed she was divinely conceived by the god Amun, who appeared to her mother in the guise of the pharaoh Thutmose I, her father.
Tumblr media
Sappho
An ancient Greek poet from the island of Lesbos, Sappho is celebrated for her lyric poetry, which explores love and passion.
Legend says that Sappho leaped from the Leucadian cliffs due to her unrequited love for Phaon, a ferryman, demonstrating the depth of her emotional expressions that permeated her work.
Tumblr media
Artemisia I of Caria
A queen of the ancient Greek city-state of Caria and an ally of Xerxes I during the Second Persian invasion of Greece.
In the Battle of Salamis, Artemisia was so cunning in combat that she intentionally rammed her ally's ship to escape the Greeks, convincing them she was an ally and thus avoiding capture.
Tumblr media
Hypatia
A mathematician, astronomer and philosopher in Alexandria, Egypt, Hypatia was a renowned teacher and thinker.
Hypatia was known to drive through Alexandria in her chariot to deliver public lectures on philosophy, defying the gender expectations of her time.
Tumblr media
Boudicca
The warrior queen of the Iceni tribe who led a major uprising against the occupying forces of the Roman Empire in Britain.
After the Romans flogged Boudicca and raped her daughters, she rallied her tribe and neighboring tribes for revenge, resulting in the destruction of Roman settlements and the decimation of the Roman Ninth Legion.
Tumblr media
The Trung Sisters: Trung Trac and Trung Nhi
Vietnamese military leaders who rebelled against Chinese Han dynasty rule, becoming enduring symbols of resistance.
The sisters, after witnessing the suffering of their people under Chinese rule, famously declared their independence by proclaiming:
"All the male heroes bowed their heads in submission; only the two sisters proudly stood up to avenge the country."
Tumblr media
Khawlah bint al-Azwar
A legendary female Muslim warrior, she fought alongside the early Muslims in the battles against the Byzantine Empire.
Khawlah famously donned male warrior’s armor to rescue her brother from a Byzantine prison camp, charging into battle with such ferocity that opponents assumed she was a supernatural entity.
Tumblr media
Joan of Arc
A French heroine and saint of the Catholic Church, Joan led French forces to victory over the English at Orléans.
Joan persuaded a skeptical Charles VII of France of her divine mission to save France by correctly predicting a military reversal at the Siege of Orleans, before any messenger could have reached them with the news.
Tumblr media
Zenobia
The third-century queen of the Palmyrene Empire in Syria who challenged the authority of the Roman Empire.
Zenobia was so bold that she claimed descent from Cleopatra, positioning herself as the Egyptian queen's successor in defiance of Rome and marched her armies as far as Egypt and Anatolia.
Tumblr media
Cleopatra VII
The last active ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt, Cleopatra is known for her intelligence, political acumen, and dramatic love affairs.
In a famous encounter to secure her alliance with Julius Caesar, Cleopatra had herself wrapped in a carpet (or linen sack, according to some accounts) and delivered to him, emerging to charm Caesar with her wit and beauty.

Thank you for asking lovely xx
2) Do you drink tea or coffee? How do you take it?
Both. Tea I usually drink builder's tea with lots of milk. Coffee - my usual order is a hazelnut latte but depends on mood / place where I am ordering from.
3) What was the last song you listened to?
Now and for always from the LotR musical, which I am seeing in a couple of weeks :)

9) When is your birthday?
December 21st :)
14) What’s your favorite color?
Blue.
25) What’s your favorite decade?
I don't think I would want to live in any decade in the past but in terms of aesthetic... oh actually I am not sure about that either. I think I like and dislike things from all 1900 decades lol. But in terms of historical fashion the late 1700s knew what they were on about.
32) If you could go anywhere right now, where would you go?
Probably Greece or Spain or something completely different like Alaska or Iceland or Norway. Any trip sounds pretty good right now tbh.
40) Do you like the beach? Do you prefer it sunny or cloudy?
