Watson: I have an errand on Oxford Street. Let us go out for some fresh air and a sandwich.
Holmes: I am not hungry.
Watson: We will enjoy the Yuletide decorations. The lights. The shop windows.
Holmes: You are arguing against your case, Watson.
Watson: I insist. Or I shall go alone—but trust me, I will make you pay later.
...
There is so much to unpack here. JUST WHAT IS HE IMPLYING?? 🤣

What Child is This? by Bonnie MacBird
I really enjoy these full length Holmes and Watson adventures, and though this was a little shorter than the others, it was still a nice read.
And my favourite quote...
Tumblr media
It's a little sad but also a little funny

sorry if this has been asked already, but do you know of any decent pastiches that involve holmes getting put through the wringer? (mentally or physically, i'm not picky). i know that watson being kidnapped or otherwise put in a position of distress by some baddie is a fairly common trope, but i haven't seen much of the reverse.
Good question! Let's see... I'm going off memories here, which might not be 100% accurate, but here are the ones I can think of:
The Seven-Per-Cent Solution by Nicholas Meyer -- the obvious one lol
Sherlock Holmes and the Plague of Dracula by Stephen Seitz -- this one is extremely silly but Holmes does go through some shit in it
The Thinking Engine by James Lovegrove -- another one that's very silly/cracky, but IIRC has a part where Holmes gets addicted to a new drug and starts spiraling down mentally before begging Watson to "save" him
Art in the Blood by Bonnie MacBird -- has Holmes getting tortured by the baddies
Dust and Shadow by Lindsay Faye -- I think this had a certain amount of Holmes angst?
I'd love to read more though, if anyone else has any recs!

((I’m the same way, Anon! I’m always on the lookout for new things to read! I’m happy to help out with this. This is one of those kinds of things I always love to help with lol.
I compiled a list with variety, so hopefully you’ll find something here that you would like. And a lot of these are the starts of series as well! I put a ** by ones that are of a series.))
The June Boys - Court Stevens
We Were Kings - Court Stevens
Thr3e - Ted Dekker
Obsessed - Ted Dekker
Stalking Jack the Ripper - Keri Maniscalo**
Magpie Murders - Anthony Horowitz**
The House of Silk - Anthony Horowitz
The Tarleton Murders - Breck England
A Study in Scarlet Women - Sherry Thomas**
The Stuff of Nightmares - James Lovegrove** (not technically but he writes a lot of books in this category)
Comes a Horseman - Robert Liparulo
Art in the Blood - Bonnie MacBird**
Vicious - V.E. Schwab** (not really a mystery but worth the read)
The Gray Man - Mark Greaney** (not really a mystery but worth the read)
Hope this helps! And this is just a fraction of my little library, so if you need more I’ll see what I can come up with.

[1] “I see that you doubt me, Mr. Holmes. Then tell me this: how do I know that you drink your coffee black? That you eat very little? That you play a stringed instrument? That you care very much for the man sitting beside you? Too much, perhaps. It may be the death of you.”
[2] “Ah, Doctor Watson! The fourth observation? Correct, as were the others. You did not see the expression on Mr. Holmes’ face when I struck you on the side of the head.”
I was inspired to read The Three Locks by Bonnie MacBird from this post by @nessahero!
Context – the speaking character is a perceptive stage magician. He hits Watson on the side of the head (quite hard!) as part of his sleight of hand. Holmes (the cad that he is) states that only three of those deductions are true, which this character quickly disproves. I wanted to draw “the expression”!

HELLO FRIEND :D @thebraxiatelcollection
1. a book close to your heart: I’m gonna say the night circus because I read it for the first time around the end of 2017. It’s the book that really started my book collection so I have a special place for it in my heart 😊♥️
15. a book rec you really enjoyed: ohhhh so many!! I recently read Art in the Blood by Bonnie Macbird and that whole series was incredible— definitely some of the best mysteries I’ve ever consumed. I highly recommend!, Also gonna recommend an adult fantasy for you: Rage of Dragons (by Evan Winters)
38. your favourite series: well, technically my favorite series is gallifrey whahah, but for books i have a few favorites such as the shades of magic trilogy, arc of a scythe trilogy, lord of the rings, the stormlight archive, and anything by elizabeth lim (I also read the gilded wolves trilogy and the shadow of the fox trilogy this year which were both very enjoyable series!)
40. a book with a black cover: piranesi by Susanna Clarke or Frenchman’s Creek by daphne du maurier (both have beautiful writing and black covers)

Was that [MATTHEW GOODE]? Oh no no, that was just [SHERLOCK HOLMES], a [CANON CHARACTER] from [SHERLOCK HOLMES]. They are [FORTY-TWO] years old, use [HE/HIM] and [ARE] aware that they are not actually from Washington DC. Too bad they can’t stray from this city for long.
LAST  UPDATED march 2024
BASIC  INFO
date of birth: 6th January 1854 age upon arrival: 37 height: 6′2″ hometown: nr Corfe Castle, Dorset, UK significant other: John Watson species: human
QUESTIONS
how long has your character been here? Sherlock arrived in the city in April 2019
what is your character’s job He’s still working as a consulting detective, though he doesn’t quite have the volume of cases that he had back in London.
where has your character been pulled from in their fandom Post-The Final Problem. After fleeing from the Reichenbach Falls he ended up travelling whilst the world presumed that he had died alongside Professor Moriarty. Some months into his travels through Europe, he woke up in present day Washington.
has any magic affected your character No
and any other information you might find useful for us and the other members to know!! - I’m basing Sherlock off of the 1984-1994 series because the vibes are immaculate and also the original stories, along with some aspects from pastiche novels incl. the novels by Bonnie MacBird and the Enola Holmes series - He hasn’t been able to give up smoking, although he has somewhat cut down on it. Sherlock has however managed to give up his drug habit, and no longer relies on his seven-per-cent solution of cocaine or on morphine. - He’s adapted pretty well to the time jump all being said, and no longer wishes to return to his original time. - In late 2021, after the engagement, Sherlock moved back in with John and they have a pet cat, Nellie. He and John eloped on New Years Day 2022, 141 years to day after they met - Sherlock has a younger sister, Enola, who’s twenty years younger than him.

Happy 71st birthday to Bonnie MacBird - born on Nov. 5, 1951
Bonnie MacBird, along with Steven Lisberger, is the co-creator of TRON (1982). She co-wrote the story for TRON with Lisberger - and is also credited as creator of characters for TRON: Legacy.
Her [future] husband, computer engineer Alan Kay, was the inspiration for TRON character Alan Bradley.
The character of Alan Bradley was based in part on Kay, and, along with the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Lab, the lab in the film was based on Kay's lab at Xerox PARC. Kay and MacBird married in 1983.

Disney's Tron is Now 40 Years Old
Disney’s Tron is Now 40 Years Old
Image: Disney Another week in July, another momentous anniversary for a sci-fi IP. This weekend, the movie celebrating a big milestone is Disney’s Tron, which released on July 9 all the way back in 1982 and is now 40 years old. Let’s do some reminiscing, shall we? Directed and written by Steven Lisberger from a story he conceived with Bonnie MacBird, the film starred Jeff Bridges as a game…
