I feel like Odysseus tied to the mast when I go buy food for my animals in April, because I have to cross the area of the agri store with all the new seedlings and flowers and they’re so tempting. Also there’s a little free library in the nearby plaza... I always leave my house full of resolve like “chicken feed and a salt lick, nothing else” and come back with armfuls of books and plants. (I have to leave them out on the table for a little while so the cats can conduct their mandatory New Thing analysis.)

I got some strawberry plants yesterday even though I already have too many (but they’re not the same variety!) and a raspberry + blackcurrant plants. And I found a physics textbook from the year 1896 in the book box! I love to buy old school books in secondhand bookshops, they’re fun to leaf through, especially when they authoritatively state long-disproven facts, or when bored early-1900s students scribbled in them...

"TURNABOUT," an Ace Attorney-inspired collection!!

This collection features 8 scents inspired by Ace Attorney characters, available both as candles and snap bar-style wax melts.

Scent descriptions and more photos under the cut!

"Objection!" - Phoenix Wright: A woody, slightly spicy scent that opens with peppercorn, cedar, and orange zest. Heart notes of sandalwood, jasmine, neroli, and cashmere are followed by a resinous base accented with vetiver and Cabernet grape.

"Unnecessary Feelings" - Miles Edgeworth: A rich, luxurious blend. Top notes of orange bitters and rock salt ease into freshly waxed mahogany wood and pink pepper, all wrapped up in a smooth base of oakmoss, paprika, bourbon, and tonka bean.

"Hamburgers and Ramen" - Maya Fey: Sweet and girlish, this scent begins with grapefruit, bergamot, thyme, and sweet pea. White tea, nutmeg, rose, and honey form the heart notes, and are followed by tuberose and jasmine.

"Chords of Steel" - Apollo Justice: A strong scent with a kick of spice. Top notes of bergamot, ginger, and lemon mingle with cardamom, nutmeg, rose, and incense. Woods, labdanum, amber, and musk linger at the base.

"Courtroom Air Guitar" - Klavier Gavin: A balanced scent reminiscent of expensive cologne. Sea spray, eucalyptus, and citrus zest provide an ozonic opening combination, warmed by heart notes of cashmere, florals, and earthy mint. Cedar, sandalwood, vetiver, and amber musk complete the blend.

"Impromptu Psychoanalysis" - Athena Cykes: Bright notes of lemon, lime, citrus peel, and lemongrass jump-start this blend, followed by a calmer heart of jasmine, sugar, and blackcurrant. A simple patchouli and powder base holds the medley together.

"Gallery Fopdoodles" - Simon Blackquill: An earthy blend that opens with palm leaf and coffee, blending into oak, leather, patchouli, and caramel middle notes. Bottom tones of smoked vanilla, whiskey, and dried woods leave a lasting impression.

"Weaponized Prayer Beads" - Nahyuta Sahdmadhi: Soft and delicate, this scent's top notes of aloe, citrus zest, and milky ambrette unfold into a smooth heart of bamboo, green leaves, tuberose, and temple incense. Tonka bean, vanilla, sheer musk, and teakwood add depth for the finishing touch.

This collection has been bouncing around in my noggin for about two years, and now it is finally time to release it into the wild.

Andy is a classy man. He also likes to smell expensive. A scent that is all his own. One that is clean and fresh. People know it's him, and they know when he's been in a room. It's both sexy and warm. Manly and soft. Sounds like Andy.

Curtis - Tom Ford Ombre Leather $155 Top note is Cardamom; middle notes are Leather and Jasmine Sambac; base notes are Amber, Moss and Patchouli.

So let's pretend that Curtis isn't on that stupid train. He is the epitome of manly. He's strong, a bit of an anger problem, but he's soft with the people he cares about. I think that he would wear leather quite regularly, so he wants a cologne that compliments his clothes

Lloyd - Parfums de Marly Layton $490 Top notes are Apple, Lavender, Bergamot and Mandarin Orange; middle notes are Geranium, Violet and Jasmine; base notes are Vanilla, Cardamom, Sandalwood, Pepper, Patchouli and Guaiac Wood.

Lloyd is a man that makes an entrance! He wants you to smell he's coming before he gets there. He does not want anybody around him to have his scent. This is also a unisex scent, which completely suits Lloyd's feminine qualities. The throw of this scent is quite nice, and it's dry down is nice and warm.

Mace - Atlantis by Blu Atlas $100 Top notes: bergamot, lemon, blackcurrant Mid notes: lavender, clary sage, peach, apricot Base notes: orris, oak-moss, violet, ambrette seed, musk

Mace is one of the younger in this group. He is a bit more vivacious and brighter. He doesn't want something heavy. He wants it light and fresh. Something that will linger, but not be overpowering.

Ransom - Indonesian Oud Eau de Toilette Ermenegildo Zegna $260 Main Notes: Amber, Bergamot, Oud, Patchouli, Rose

I have said that this is Ransom's cologne for about two years now. Nothing has changed. This cologne isn't for everyone (most oud based fragrances aren't) just like Ransom. He is a bit spoiled, and a bit stuck up. This fragrance is dark and smoky, but it has that light Rose base note. This is one of my personal favorite scents, and I use it as a pillow spray, don't come at me.

Steve - L'Homme by Yves Saint Laurent $119 Top notes are Ginger, Bergamot and Lemon; middle notes are Spices, White Pepper, Basil and Violet Leaf; base notes are Tonka Bean, Tahitian Vetiver and Cedar.

Alright, so Mr. All American, himself, of course is going to have a traditional scent. Clean, slightly warm, but also sweet. Sounds about like Steve, doesn't it. The smell is the best when it lingers on your skin.

Notes: spices, aldehydes, narcissus, lavender, orange, peach, bergamot, coca-cola; spicy notes, cloves, cinnamon, rose, ylang-ylang, jasmine, lily of the valley, blackcurrant leaf, orchid; incense, tolu balsam, Peru balsam, oakmoss, patchouli, amber, vetiver, vanilla, musk

I remembered Youth Dew, back when I was less experienced with perfume, as a spicy, warm balsamic Oriental. And it *is* that, but what I’m noticing most this time around is how floral it is and how much air there is in the middle.

It goes on with a boozy, bright-brown slug of ambers and resins, and keeps on buzzing with warming autumnal spices and a crackle of incense —really on the dry side as things go. But the heart of Youth Dew is really this lovely complex vintage swirl of aldehydes and florals. It’s regal. Queenly. But perfectly approachable and grounded. A Demeter fragrance. It makes me feel like a grown-up lady with a full life.

The core, bright-brown, spice-and-aldehyde scent chord is distinctive and hard to place — I think of it somehow as the olfactory equivalent of a French horn. It sings out; it’s bright but with some richness and solemnity. it’s got a bit of a cognac or whiskey quality. And then there’s a soft cloud of flowers trailing underneath it.

A lot of people can’t tolerate Youth Dew because it’s strong and it *does* smell like your grandmother (if your grandmother was American and around in the 1950s.) It’s very much a feminine scent, also; my guy friends who experimented with it uniformly found it unwearable. But I love it. It *is* strong; it’s warming, invigorating, fortifying. And it packs a dose of vintage glamour.

Fairytail Parfum revealed on Twitter earlier today that they will be releasing a perfume set inspired by Shinku and Suigintou. It will cost 8,250 yen (tax included). Pre-orders are now being accepted, and the set is scheduled to be shipped August 29th, 2022.

Bad news gang. Ive had this sample of frederic malle une fleur de cassie that fully bewildered me bc the name and notes sounded like maybe my kinda floral (mimosa,blackcurrant leaf, jasmine, woods, musk) and its such an expensive and allegedly selective brand, but out of the atomizer it stinks horrifically like the worst kind of "flower" scented air freshener. I just assumed i was once again failing to understand florals. I think i remember spraying it on once and needing to wash it off immediately.

but bc im on my flower journey i decided to bite the bullet and try it again just to make sure, smelling the atomizer made me retch once again, but 30 seconds on my wrist it is heartbreakingly beautiful. Has that yellow flower pollen-like quality, and the sweet-fresh thing that reminds me of spearmint gum. Quite sweet and old-fashioned feeling but so so beautiful. Not that i know a lot about perfume history and fashions, but i just picture this on an older lady, and it triggers a heart-wrenching nostalgia. reminds me a little bit of hair spray, maybe thats it?

The worst thing is Frederic Malle do sell a bunch of small sizes so i could just drop too much money on a strangely beautiful little thing.

I was planning on a simple Insta post of this bottle, but there is just too much to say. Shed 1 kindly [gifted] me this bottle of their new Ulverston Gin. I sat down to taste, and several tastes later, I'm still finding new things. This gin is a real beauty, the epitome of a local gin, one that is of course made with locally foraged botanicals, but one that is very much a community project. And the flavour? Well it is probably one of my favourite herbaceous gins out there, for the experience of tasting it. Every time I taste it I find something new, I identify more of the blackcurrant leaf, I find a brighter note I hadn't detected before. Tasting this is like a hedgerow walk, like picking botanicals and squishing them in your fingers and essentially, how that sensory experience is ever changing, ever growing like the plants themselves. The gin launched last week with a limited edition run of 300 bottles. I think they're going to go quick and i just hsd to say something. So this post is more a holding message. I'm working on the article, and it will be published soon. love when plants just go So Fast!

my maranta had two buds this morning and they're both fully bloomed perfect little purple flowers now, and I had to remove some leaves from one of my blackcurrant cuttings bc of The Bugs, and what was a tiny hit of a bud this morning is now a teeny tiny unfurling leaf.

like damn these babies sure are alive!
