Every blue-eyed person shares a common ancestor, as blue eyes are caused by a genetic mutation that occured long ago.

I'm currently watching a video about how a species of ant fully domesticated a species of fungi. Like, that fungi cannot live on its own and was bred to the point where it can't intermingle with other fungi species. Once again my mind boggles with yet another realization that humans aren't that unique from animals in most regards.
I knew about leaf cutter ants and how they grew fungi but this video is going into the history and extent of this relationship. Anyway everyone please watch PBS' show Eons

okay, so since there's interest in me throwing anthropology at star wars, here goes:
star wars headcanons, anthropology style: togruta skeletal anatomy
so this one was suggested to me by a friend, who proposed that togruta have a majority of their bones made up of cartilage, with calcium bones for the skull and spine and i thiiink legs? but everything else is cartilage. and to the best of my understanding, cartilage is not typically suitable for weight-bearing structures. it does better at shock absorption.
so, some bioanthro observations: togruta are traditionally hunters, both as individuals and in groups and hunting prey ranging from small to quite large, and so would have adaptations that suit the physical demands of a hunting lifestyle.
based on this info and some of the representations of them across star wars content, i'm going to infer that togruta are adapted for the speed and agility necessary for charging their prey with a spear or similar weapon.
as a gymnast, i know that sprinting speed, especially in the movement leading into a takeoff, comes largely from muscles around the thighs, so i'm gonna say togruta have strong, well muscled legs, which in turn tells us that the bones of their legs would have more visible evidence of muscle attachment, possibly even in individuals whose lives haven't followed the cultural tradition.
wookieepedia also tells us that togruta are spiritually connected with their planet, and prefer to go barefoot to allow that connection to be uninterrupted. from this, i'd gather that they probably have wider feet, with more splayed toes, and potentially lower rates of arch problems, bunions, etc, than humans who wear (often narrow and restrictive) shoes all of the time.

Wow that's such a cool thing to research! So are you like Dr Brennan from Bones?
😆In a way? Although when I started my undergrad my goal was to be a forensic anthropologist, by now I'm much more passionate about paleo anthropology aka human evolution, but that's something that is hard to study here, and osteology/bioanthro helps me with my goal! Although I wouldn't say no to ending up as a forensic anthropologist, it's still so strange to watch bones now that im doing my master in anthropology and have worked with skeletons when I first watched it in 7th grade and decided I wanted to be a forensic anthropologist 😅

dream job? — i loooooooooove the idea of both being a researcher or being a teacher, i would especially love to get to do primate cognition studies or any reasearch on the areas where bioanthro, cultural anthro, and neuroscience overlap but like when i tell someone about the science that im excited about and then THEY get excited about it too from what i told them about it?? like the most rewarding thing ever so i think i would like being a teacher and i think i would be good at it/.... also not necessarily a dream job but i do think it would be cool to work on anthropology documentaries bc i have so many pet peeves about anthro and nature documentaries that im always like i could do this so much better let me be the art director and trhe script writer and the consultant and let me make the documentrary.

i've pretty much offically decided (for now) what part of anthropology i'm planning on going into!!!!!!
PRIMATOLOGY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
primatology just seems SO AWESOME i'm super interested in everything to do with it, especially the relations between local people and the primates that live near them (and how that factors into conservation/how to use that to help conservation!!)
it's really complicated and has a huge focus on networking and prior experience which is........ terrifying......... but i think i can do it!! at least, i really want to do it!!

god i wish midoriya was real and studying criminal justice aka the same fuckin degree as me so i could find the loml in uni instead of being single :’)
me x100000 omfg pls. i want to minor in criminal justice but i literally have,,,, no fuckin room in my schedule rn bc of gen ed + degree classes, along with the pre med prereqs i’m not taking bc i literally didn’t have the room in my schedule.
part of me wants criminal justice major n anthropology minor izuku, his analysis turning into a fascination and curiosity befitting anthropology. of course, this is entirely self-indulgent because i like imagining college AU izukel tutoring each other for our minor degrees bc we’re majoring in them, and struggling in premed together SDHFRBF
why isn’t izuku real ;3;

Winter Studying Challenge - 12/12/2020
Gotta love finals week. Nothing is more interesting than the auricular surface of the ilium for determining skeletal age
(actually I do love bioanthro, my brain is just fried)
Dec. 12: Does your family have any odd traditions during the holidays?
Most definitely! We're an odd amalgamation of blended/broken family with a mishmash of cynics, agnostics, and ex-Catholics. One of the strangest things we do, though, is watch Terry Pratchett's The Hogfather every single year. Both movies. One sitting. Both ruining and reaffirming the entire concept of Christmas and commercialism and belief. Just casual things.
