where would you say is a good place to start off reading the bible? im kind of overwhelmed by just how much there is and im not sure if i should just start off from the beginning or not
Hey there lil brother/sister in Christ! Welcome to the spiritual family, I'm so excited to have you!
The cornerstone of our faith is Jesus Christ... because without His life, burial, resurrection and promise to return again... we have nothing. That being said, the Gospels are the best place to start. If you don't know, the Gospels are New Testament books called Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. They tell the story of Jesus' life through the eyes of different disciples who followed him and tried to put his teachings into practice. I would say the book of John is where you should start; learn about how Jesus lived his life as our example in the flesh and learn about how much He loves you.
The Bible tells us to pray for the wisdom to understand, so it may be helpful to do this before beginning your studies!
"If any man lacks wisdom, let him ask it of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."
James Chapter One, Verse Five
Please feel free to leave another ask or even DM me privately if you would like more thoughts, support or advice on your spiritual journey. I'm so excited for you!!!

The preaching of the gospel, the good news, God's word is the only antidote that God has prescribed regarding this world. He gave his Son. The Son gave his life. By way of our belief in the gospel of Christ, he save and deliver us from this present evil world.
The Son did not come starting programs, beginning a political party, or any other thing. He came preaching and teaching the kingdom. He came preaching and teaching the time to come. He came preaching hope, belief, and faith in God; that if we believe and receive the kingdom of God, we will be there in that world to come. (He's going to destroy this one.)
The gospel is for the purpose of calling people out of this world. The gospel, good news, or God's word is for the purpose of stopping the the works of Satan. The preaching of the Word of God torments devils. The preaching of the Word has become my hope.
However, despite the supremacy of God's word, in this age of the Church, the word of God is not going to appeal to the Church. 📜 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; [4] and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. - II Timothy 4:3-4 It is therefore going to take for us to INDIVIDUALLY respond to God. In this age of the Church, it will not be a corporate turning unto God to take heed to, believe in, and for the hearing of God's word. 📜‭‭Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. - Revelation 3:20
📖 ‭‭Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught. [22] And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. [23] Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, [24] saying, “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!” [25] But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” [26] And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him. - Mark 1:21-26
📖 ‭‭You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. - I John 4:4
📖 ‭‭He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. - I John 3:8
📖 ‭‭To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. [22] “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ’ ” - Revelation 3:21-22
📖 ‭‭Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. - Revelation 21:1

I am very concerned that much of modern evangelicalism has lost the clear biblical teaching of the Doctrine of Sin. We seem to see the source of sin purely in terms of the devil and the world. We see ourselves as good people who are victims of outside forces. We fail to see that we are born fallen.

Women Disciples: Jesus's Call to Mary of Magdala
John has put it on record that Jesus called women as his disciples and commissioned them to apostolic ministry just as he did with men, and we can do no less today. #MaryMagdalene #WomenDisciples #WomenApostles #John20
Though Mary of Magdala is a well-known figure in the gospels, she is not introduced by name until Jesus’s crucifixion in John’s Gospel (John 19:25). John doesn’t explain who she is, or what her relationship is to Jesus or his family, but there she is, with John and Mary, Jesus’s mother. That alone says how important she was to Jesus’s inner circle. The Morning of the Resurrection 1886 Sir Edward…

Eternal Assurance: Trusting in Christ Alone
Back in the early 90’s I faced a crisis as I held to a works-based salvation and constantly lived in fear of my eternal destiny. I had no assurance of my salvation because I never knew if I’d performed enough good works to validate my salvation. It was a terrible place to be. The solution came when I began to study the Scriptures carefully, stopped looking at myself, and fixed my “eyes on Jesus,…

So apparently, Charles Spurgeon's devotionals are not exactly biblical so I'm going to try not to study those anymore...
Now my bible study will be a record breaking 10 minutes until I find a biblical replacement 😞

📖 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. - Matthew 24:12
And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie ["the lie"]: that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. - 2 Thessalonians 2:11‭-‬12 📖
In regards to the last days, Christ says that the love of many shall become cold because iniquity shall abound . . . We live in a day where people don't relish genuineness, loyalty, love . . . Stuff like that gets used and abused. You're seen as a pluck, simp, a lame. It's either play or get played. . .
So many move not acknowledging their human quality . . . God designed for love, faithfulness (loyalty), truth (genuineness, love essentially) to be desired. But when one moves as if they're outside of those desires -- lit, living their best life -- as if they're heartless, savage, or whatever, they have believed "the lie."
"The lie" goes back to what Satan deceitfully implied way back in the garden of Eden: "You shall be a gods" . . .
So many move recklessly in these last days because so many move having this lie permeating their spirits and minds -- some even calling themselves gods. Thus, so many mishandle relationships, damaging others.

The High Drama of the Trial of Steven, 1st Century Church Leader and Evangelist (Acts chapter 7 part 2)
The High Drama of the Trial of Steven, 1st Century Church Leader and Evangelist (Acts chapter 7 part 2)
Steven, the Great Early Church Leader and Evangelist, Continues With His Response to the Court Acts chapter 7, verses 20-38 Last week when we concluded part 1 of Acts chapter 7, Steven had been asked for a response to the charges that had been leveled against him by the Sanhedrin, the Jewish ruling council. Namely, that Steven was guilty of blasphemy, inciting unrest and sowing discontent among…

Biblically, there are only two attitudes you and I can have toward one another: love or hate (see 1 John 2:9-11). There are no "isms" (such as racism, sexism, ageism). There is only love and hate. That's it. All that remains is how you and I choose to express those attitudes to each other.

From Patrick Weaver Ministries
“I’m not negotiating with you or begging you not to abuse me just because you’re family. I’m often asked, “But what if the abuser is a family member?”
My answer: But what if you had no respect of person concerning the behavior that you allow in your life, and your healthy boundaries supported the truth that a relationship with you comes with the responsibilities of you — family included?
See, the real question isn’t “what do we do when it’s family”. The real question is, what do we need to do inside of ourselves to build up the strength and the confidence to remove an abuser from our life regardless of who they are. Family is not synonymous with relationship…and once we allow ourselves to fully embrace this truth, the question of what to do about an abusive family member becomes less complicated — although it can be very disappointing, more so than if it were a non family member.
We have a false, emotionally engrained, expectation that says, “All people who share our DNA are required to be in a relationship with us and if their behavior prohibits their participation in our life, we are supposed to feel incomplete and incapable of enjoying life.” That’s a false emotional belief beloved, and we have all believed it — until we learned better.
Family is not defined by blood, family is defined by people whose behavior reciprocates, honors and respects love, and creates a safe environment to be in each other’s presence. Your DNA family members don’t have to be in your life to be loved by you, and your life is not diminished when they can’t be in your life because their behavior proves they can’t be in a healthy relationship with you. Your life is diminished only by the belief in the false notion that family and relationship are synonymous.
Jesus taught us to fully embrace and to be emotionally liberated by this truth: “Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother” (Matthew 12:49-50). In other words, when our emotions are reconciled to the truth, family or DNA doesn’t qualify an individual to be in a relationship with you, behavior does.
Embracing this truth and releasing the idea that you have to be in someone’s presence to be their family member, will begin to make this make sense: “You can keep people in your prayers and put them out of your life when their behavior threatens your safety, sanity or serenity.” Relationship is a powerful word, and it doesn’t apply to all people — family included.
Carry On!”

The God-Man: Understanding the Deity and Humanity of Jesus
At a point in time, the eternal Son of God added humanity to Himself, simultaneously becoming God and man, Creator and creature, the unique theanthropic person (John 1:1, 14, 18; 8:58; 10:33; 20:28; Col 2:9; Heb 1:8). Jesus is the God-man and exists in hypostatic union, as a single Person with a divine and human nature (John 1:1, 14; 1 John 4:2-3), both natures being distinct and preserved, not…
