A Hummingbird Clearwing moth is a rare and amazing insect to see.
Not only is it just about as big as a hummingbird and behaves in much the same manner - floating in the air as they do, but if you look closely, its wings are indeed, clear.
Amazingly, even in flight you can see right through them.
Watching one is mesmerizing.

Beebalm
Hummingbirds, bees, and humans rejoice - it is beebalm time! (shhh! we’ll sneak up on them)
There they are, just down by the stream!
Chance can ‘herd’ them our way.
So red! Beebalm (genus Monarda) has tons of wild species and human-derived cultivars. This batch I planted here from an aggressively-spreading cultivar I bought twenty-some years ago. There is also a wild clump that blooms white and a bit later in the month. I tried transplanting the pink ones that grow other places in the valley, but they did not like this spot.
Also saw many of the gorgeous iridescent dragonflies
Those guys color-shift from emerald green to electric blue. Also this little buckeye
The top of its wings are prettier than the underside, but both are spotted.
Baxter posed pretty, then got photobombed by a darned border collie. This guy. This guy has an orange cat spirit. His black and white fur is a mistake. Look at that empty head! Orange cat.

Bee balm leaves. Harvested and dried and ready to be made into incense. I use it as the main ingredient for my Ing/Freyr incense. I will add lemon balm and peppermint as well.
