Worldbuilding/Etc: My Soulmate AU [2]
-Metas with long lives, especially speedsters, with mortal soulmates often get another soulmate later on.
-^These tend to be people who never had soulmates/soulmates died when they were very young. It's basically never "a baby got born and they're this immortal's soulmate now". Because this isn't Twilight and when I say I like age difference that's not even a little bit what I mean
-In one of the many now-erased timelines, Eobard Thawne did have another, platonic, soulmate, whose name was Dawn West-Allen. NO ONE was happy about that, and it's better for everyone that didn't happen
-^I mean, Iris and Barry were not in a happy marriage and that timeline was a trashfire, so it's so good in general that it got replaced, but also like, Eobard Leave Barry And His Kids Alone
-But yeah it is very much more likely that a speedster's second soulmate will be a speedster as well. It's actually pretty common in the future and taught in schools as the "Speedster Effect"
-If Snart died, Barry would never get a second soulmate tho. That one's it for him
-Becky Cooper, Barry's high school ex, is bi like Barry and is now dating her soulmate, who is a woman! She met her at a concert, because the girl started having trouble breathing bc asthma, and Becky could feel her getting nervous/freaking out before it actually kicked in badly
-No one wanted the Becky Cooper lore, but I do have it
-In this timeline, Iris and Barry are never ever together. That's simply not a thing
-When Barry was in high school, he briefly thought Tony Woodward might be his soulmate. Thankfully, he was not
-The day two people confirm they're each other's soulmates is often called a "Union Day" and is often celebrated similar to an anniversary

If you like non-fiction and true crime books I really recommend this one. The author is investigating a murder case from the 60s. A young woman was murdered and no one really bothered to find the person responsible. Men in power failed her, but decades later another woman is trying to bring her justice. Becky Cooper did an enormous amount of research to investigate the victim's (whose name is Jane Britton) story. Unlike many true crime authors, her main focus isn't on the murderer. She's interested in who Jane was as a person. The more she learns about her, the more she feels connected to her. It's a great example of women caring for other, forgotten and silenced women, even though the two lived decades apart.

Totally Random Non-Fiction Tuesday
Tumblr media
I’m always a sucker for a True Crime book that takes place somewhere that I have been around, know of, and so, this book about the murder of Jane Britton a Harvard Anthropology student in 1969 written by a Harvard graduate Becky Cooper decades later.
It’s a typical sort of true crime on the one hand, there’s lots about the time (misogyny and that sort of thing that could happen at Harvard) and I could definitely tell that Cooper did tons of research on the crime, but, it’s also a bit of a memoir about Becky Cooper herself at times too which made it a slightly less typical true crime book.
It was definitely an interesting read, and, through every word I could tell that Cooper had really really been into this case. The end was a bit surprising to me, just as it has been to many others, and, definitely don’t Google the case if you don’t want to be spoiled (It was closed in 2018). An intense, but good read.
You may like this book If you Liked: Notes on a Silencing by Lacy Crawford, I'll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara, or Blood & Ivy by Paul Collins

It took me almost two months to finish.
We Keep the Dead Close: A Murder at Harvard and a Half Century of Silence by Becky Cooper
It wasn't boring or slow. In fact, for such a lengthy book, it's a real page turner. And it's a fascinating blend of true crime, non fiction and memoir-- how Cooper finds her own voice in the story of Jane Britton's murder.
Cooper explores every twist and turn of the case, every loose end, and puts everything and everyone under the microscope, even Harvard itself. And yet she never loses sight of Jane Britton herself, and the tragedy of her loss. 5 stars.

Becky Hammon sees herself as the eternal underdog. She's got this life-long persecution complex. And maybe that's warranted. She's been through some shit.
But at a certain point, she needs to take a look around and recognize that she's a multi-millionaire superstar coach. She's made it. And she's not persecuted anymore. Her "me against the world" outlook is now turning her into an asshole.

It’s always people who are very disgusting who should not be raping or rating who do this kind of shit and as far as my writing is concerned, I am actually still a brilliant woman inside of here so I will get out of this mess. I will be paid all royalties, and you will actually consume your penis and it will be a very painful ordeal.

Cade's Cove, Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee
I found myself mesmerized by the playful shadows fading in and out upon the Smoky Mountains.  Surrounded by clouds, the rolling hills were dense with firs and oaks, rising up in the distance from the valley of Cades Cove.  I decided to take an early morning drive along the 11-mile loop, one way auto tour to visit this informative living history museum.  Picking up the brochure, I began my…
