I recently watched “Little Women” and I didn’t know it would be that saddddd.
Also Jo totally should’ve been aroace! I related to so much she was going through just for it to (slight spoiler!) end in a romance again….
#starrytalking#like she could’ve been such great rep#and then she just isn’t and ‘finds someone who accepts her as she is’#this was so unnecessary‚ why couldn’t they just let her be happy without a partner but with ger writing and friends and family :/#second note‚ after some time: ok I know now that that’s not entirely true#so Jo (do I need to do a spoiler warning again) in the second Little Women book apparently marriages this professor dude but the author#originally said she wanted her to be a “literary spinster” kinda like herself but then got pressured by readers so much that she gave her#this rando as love interest#and the director wanted to stay true to what the author originally wanted so while we see Jo kiss this dude on screen and kinda live with#him in this idealised idea of the future she 'in reality’ doesn’t do that and that’s only what she wrote in her book#because the book is about her and her sisters life just like the overall movie but in the end we see the printing dude telling her to marry#her main character (basically herself) to someone for the book to perform better (sorta what happened to the author of little women herself)#so actually Jo doesn’t get married but gets to be happy with publishing her book and loving with her family ect. and the whole forced#“romance” with the professor is just a marketing thing for her book that she eventually agrees on#this made me feel very much better about the end of this movie that at first shattered me#and yes I just recently had a heavy discussion with someone who didn’t believe my theory of Jo not actually getting married but it being in#her book but luckily the internet and interviews with the director of the movie proved me right#aromantic#aro#asexual#ace#lgbtqia+#little women#movie#jo march#slight spoilers

Tell me about your Mycroft on Enola Holmes opinions please! I also have opinions about his characterization in the movie :) they’re not nice opinions but I otherwise enjoyed the movie
Yeah overall I enjoyed both Enola Holmes movies but this One Thing made me mad and I'm gonna bitch about it under the readmore.
I spent every scene he was in wanting to eat glass, his characterization made me so angry. It's almost impressive how they utterly failed to make Mycroft Mycroft-like at pretty much every possible angle.
Is Mycroft Holmes a misanthrope? Absolutely. But that doesn't mean he's an angry, hostile asshole who treats everyone like shit, it means he avoids people. Like here he is going out of his way to be unpleasant, as if Mycroft Holmes has ever in his life gone out of his way to do anything. This man has computer brain and lives at a club where he can sit in a corner and not talk to people because he can't be arsed to participate in polite society, and you want me to believe he's wringing his hands over his sister not participating in polite society? No sir I am not buying what you're trying to sell me.
Mycroft with a young lady in his charge would basically be Mr. Bennet from Pride and Prejudice--he'd be shutting himself away with books and puzzles and occasionally laughing at the antics from a safe distance.
Honestly the final nail in the coffin was when the maid character flat out told Sherlock that Mycroft didn't have the same spark of genius as him and Enola, he's basically a weird angry OC at that point because Mycroft's entire character is "smarter genius than sherlock, but lazy."
I also have a couple of minor gripes about Sherlock's character: First, Enola tells him that he can deal with the "hoits and toits" while she takes care of the common people, when in the original stories Sherlock's whole thing was taking cases from regular people with problems that the police either couldn't or wouldn't address. Second, the part in the first movie where Enola gets slapped by the school headmistress and immediately runs to her brothers and they blow her off? You're telling me Sherlock Holmes wouldn't take one look at her and know someone just hit her, or that he'd let it slide if he did? The man who told Violet Hunter in the Copper Beeches that Rucastle's job offer was shady as hell and he wouldn't allow a hypothetical sister of his to take it? That Sherlock Holmes???
Rest of the movie was fine though. And the second one was good because Mycroft wasn't in it.

I am going to watch all of the hunger games
Before the first movie:
I kinda know the plot but not really, girl gets chosen to fight weird tradition thing by a pink drag queen, older sister is like “fuck no” and some other shit happens.
My expectations for the rating: 7/10, really good but only the first movie so not amazing.
During first movie:
Why is this weird posh British (I think) person in pink drag?? Beauty full drag tho
It's not drag??
I didn't know Josh Hutcherson was in it T-T
Why is the solution to war to send a bunch of teenagers to fight to the death?? Instead of just resolving the issue like adults and talking.
The apartment Katniss is staying in is ugly as fuck.
Haymitch is kinda hot.
KATNISS DONT MESS WITH THE FUCKING BEES
Josh Hutcherson is also a bad actor..
I love Rue so much I just want to adopt her
NO RUE WTF
Why would they add two victors?? That's just dumb as fuck, it ruins the whole point of the games.
After the first movie:
I hated this. (/pos)
I Loved it but hated it cuz of Rue.
8/10 Better then I expected for a first movie.
Before catching fire:
I have no idea at all what this one is about sooo
During catching fire:
ooooo Kathrine? Kathleen? KATNISS (I forgot her name) has PTSD
Who tf is named *snow*???
NO MAGS
MAGS IS GONNA DIE AINT SHE
SHE DIDDDDD
Johanna X Katniss 4 life
After catching fire:
AMAZING DKDNDKD
THE GOVERNMENT CORRUPTION AND THE UPRISING AND JUST ARGHHH (/pos)
9/10, 1 point off because I really liked Mags and also cliffhanger
before Mockingjay part 1:
I have no idea what will happen other then a continuation of the last movie
during mockingjay part 1:
JOSH IS DEAD HAHA
NO WRONG DUDEEE
ITS THE SONGGGG GUYSSSS
after mockingjay part 1:
Pretty good, I didn’t peticularly like it though. It was kinda bland.
7/10 still pretty good but nothing really happened
Before Mockingjay part 2:
I really hope this one is better then the last but yk
during mockingjay part 2:
KATNISS IS DEAD??
NEVERMINDSD
KATNISS IS DEAD??? (Again)
NEVERMINDSD (Again)
team Finnick for life, screw Peeta and Gale
FINNICK DIED
NOOO PRIMMM
WHAT THE FUCK PRIMROSEEEE
THEY CANT KEEP DOING THIS TOO MEEEE
After mockingjay part 2:
Amazing movie oml much better than part 1
PRIMMMM
8/10, it was hard to follow and keep focus on but it was a really good film, 1 point taken off for Prim dying, that was just unnessecary.
overall:
8/10, amazing franchise but mockingjay part one really dragged down its rating.
great movies, very hard to stay focused on. I had to be doing something else while watching or else I would lose interest.
before snakebirds and songs:
I think it’ll be good
I know it’s a prequel
During snakebirds and songs:
WHO is this Wish.com Draco malfoy??
Holy shit Lucy grey…
HOLY SHIT LUCY GREY!!
Holy shit Lucy grey’s voice..
HOLY SHIT LUCY GREY’S GUITAR
Turns out I have a thing for southern accents.
after the ballad of songbirds and snakes:
OH MY GOD
I just, it’s amazing.
the powerful message underlying in it, everything about it.
I started tearing up in the theatre and I am going to sob into my pillow once I am done writing this. (/pos)
The fact that, that is happening in real life right now. The villain of a fiction story is happening right now in front of us. Just hurts so much.
And that there will be people who watched that movie and walked out of it all happy, as if nothing like that is happening in our world.
this movie made me better, and the direction was amazing.
ranking:
10/10, I don’t think I’ve ever given a movie a solid 10/10 before but this movie deserves it.
will/would I read the books?
probably, I think the movies were great and if the movies were a good representation of the books then I believe the books will be really good

Iron Flame - Review
Burn. It. Down. Indeed. No, but I really enjoy the second part of the Fourth Wing Saga Even though I have to forgive Rebecca Yarros that she killed one my favorite Characters. The only thing I criticize is that the Love story is in both books to much. And there’s pointless smut also, which for me personally doesn’t feel like a real romantic-releationship more like a physical one. People will I hate me if I say that, but I don’t care about Xaden Riorson. I couldn't form an emotional connection with him because when I look at him I’m just seeing Rhysand and Darkling again. And the Darkling and Rhysand are similar but are characterwise very different, Xaden is a decent character but he doesn’t have what grabbed me when I read about Rhysand or the Darkling. But there are more things I really like then dislike, Violet for example she’s still a very good protagonist and I like the things she’s going trough trough out the book. It’s always interesting with her because she’s smart but also really caring. Some people compare her to Hiccup from httyd, I get they are similar, but I think personally that Hiccup is more complex and more relatable than Violet, don’t get me wrong she’s cool but doesn’t stick out that much, than Hiccup, Celaena, Feyre, Nesta, Zoya or Inej does. As I said before I don’t really care about her Relationship with Xaden that much, don’t get me wrong I like Love-Stories and Romantic stuff in books as in movies very much but at some points I had the feeling that Violet was over focused on Xaden. I know there life’s where attached to each other thanks to their Dragons, but even Feyre from ACTOR wasn’t that over focused on her mate or want to fuck him before a fucking War starts. Their Relationship is definitely the weakest part of the book and should be more in the background, I think that would’ve done overall great story wonders. The political stuff and the Dragon stuff is actually more interesting. Maybe the other three books will get me invested in Xadens Character, if it’s not his Perspective. Apropos Dragons I have to give credit to Tairn and Andarna, they were fantastic. I also really like that we see the see more of the releationship Violet has with her Dragons. But overall I have to confess I like the Dragons from httyd much more, they feel more real. I also really Love Violet and Sloanes relationship near the end, I just wished Violet would be more of a Mentor figure maybe some kind of a sister for Sloane when they resolved their conflict. Syrena and Cat I also liked, but Cat was a bitch until the end happen. But I like that Violet and her now accept each other. I just wish the side characters weren’t that blend. You know very little about them. The political that was going on was also very interesting, Navarre is a very fascinating Kingdom. The ending is very dramatic with Violets Mom sacrificing herself. Sorry but Idk why but I would’ve leave it with this ending instead of Xaden again and his red eyes and the whole scene with Jack. But overall I can recommend it, it’s enjoyable but I personally prefer the first book more. I also never saw so many roasting Videos on YouTube that for 2 hours straight. I mean yeah the Emperyean Series is a little overrated but it has potential and Rebecca Yarros is talented, the only thing that holds the Books a little back is the relationship between Xaden and Violet and also Xaden. But I wish Rebecca Yarros still the best, because I know writing, figuring out where the plot goes, plant Plottwits in it and at the same time make the characters complex and compelling is hard work. But if I were her, I would have waited a little longer to develop and figure more things out and get more feedback.

- will’s love language is quality time and he loves to hang out; just playing dnd, catching a new movie, drawing and painting his loved ones
- mike’s love language is physical touch. hugs are so important to him, but he doesn’t like to admit it openly. cuddling with will makes him the happiest
- when they were younger, they would trade clothes and constantly be wearing each other’s shirts, sweaters, and shoes
- listening to music and watching movies really gets will and mike emotional. they both really try to protect their heart and so the moments when tears are shed and it’s just the two of them are special
- will loves to hold mike’s hand. it’s just the right amount of space and security for him
- mike and will love to bicker a lot and most of the time it’s started by will. he’ll typically make fun of something mike’s doing and it’ll go from there. the fights are usually lighthearted and they try not to get too heated because of what their parents were like and they did too much intense fighting before their relationship
- mike is the one to forgive first and apologize. he’s such a softie with will it’s hilarious. he’ll straight up call his sister a piece of shit for breathing wrong but if will starts feeling sad one day, he’s booking it over to his house and asking what he can do to help
- everyone in the party knew mike and will were the original friends of the group and that they had a special bond. when they figure out it’s more, they’re like “ohhhhh, yeah makes sense” and are so supportive
- they enjoy staring lovingly at each other. they just both are completely enamored with each other and can’t hide it
- hopper becomes overly annoyed at mike being will’s boyfriend. he tries his best to be intimidating and scary even though it doesn’t really work anymore. him and mike share a hug after about a week of the silent treatment being given
- will and mike always whisper around each other and it pisses dustin off because he wants to hear what they’re saying. it’s never meaningful enough to share so they both just laugh
- el loves both mike and will like family. she’s able to view romantic relationships a new way through them and appreciates the wonderful example of true love in her life
- when they’re old enough to drive, will is always the driver. overall just more cautious, less oblivious, and loves to take mike anywhere
- they both have a special love for sunsets and will always find new places to go to view them
- will hops on the 80s trend of crop tops and some athleisure while mike is more grunge with his style: loves the color black and gets a leather jacket
- mike gets scared so easily. he always flinches when there’s a loud noise, even during the fourth of july. will can’t help but laugh and roll his eyes
- mike learns the guitar and plays a few chords trying to make something of a song. he really encourages will to sing and helps him with lyrics. will secretly sings beautifully but only really does it with mike

palm springs starring Andy Samberg and Cristin milioti is such a great movie example of,
she's everything. he's just Ken.
and, and hits just the right spot between barbie (the movie by Greta gerwig) and Good Omens (the queer angel demon book turned show) (if this doesn't makes sense rn gimne a min I'll explain,,,
so this man (Nyles) has been stuck in a time loop for the longest time ever and he just takes it yk? like he's having a shitty ass life rn,, he makes a friend who wants to kill him, his gf is cheating on him, he's stuck on the day of the marriage of two people he doesn't particularly care or like and he's just having a bad time overall yk?? so he's just accepting of his fate and is just accepting of the sheer hopelessness of life and meaninglessness of his every action
and then, and then, comes our main female protagonist (Sarah) who's dealing with the consequences of her shitty choices, she's absolutely miserable at her own sister's wedding because she's slept with her fiance and she's considered a fuck up by everyone and her past is just fucking her up constantly and all that right?? and suddenly she mistakenly becomes a part of the time loop and now he has another person with him, she's not lonely anymore but she wants to escape it and they're having fun, feeling nice together and all that, and then she finds that the other mc lied to her and it's devastating ofc it is
and the way they behave is what I'm talking about concerning barbie and ken,,, because as soon as she leaves, the man Nyles is inconsolable, he tries to find her, goes mad doing everything in his capacity to find her, tries ways to kill himself just to find her again and that's it?? cause he's sorta grieving what they could've been and how he fucked up and all that,,,
but her, she goes and learns physics. like tf? every time the loop resets, she goes and sits at a cafe and learns quantum physics and figures a way out and experiments her way through it (is it a little convenient and far fetched that she could learn it this easily? with no previous background in it or anything else we know of? ofc yes? but is the suspension of disbelief similar to that in a barbie movie?? yk the answer is a yes 🤷‍♀️) and then she comes back with a way to get them both out of the situation that they are technically in because of him while he mopes around in the background waiting for her
the good omens thingy is the one that happens in the ending of season 2 wherein both Aziraphale and Crowley want to be together, but the way and the place they want to do it at is very different (gross simplification but essentially),,, and in palm springs (a movie that I watched for funsies and wasn't supposed to write this about) they both are essentially in a similar situation with Nyles wanting to be together w her but in the loop while she wants them to get out of it together and figure it out yk,,, it's also a nicer version of that conflict as they do end up agreeing on doing one of these things together rather than seperating (temporarily but still,, unlike some celestial beings 👀)
and yeah. that's it ig
PS,,, ik I'm talking about three movies here to get the full context of this but like it fits?! and I can't help it. (emphatic period and not an exclamation mark because I'm not desperate)
PPS,,, side note I feel so sad for tala (Camila mendes's character because she's like the only not shitty(ish) character out of all of them who ends up being married to a mf cheater who cheated on her a day before their wedding with! HER! FUCKING! SISTER! (AGAIN A DAY BEFORE THEIR WEDDING!)
PPPS,,, that's just the way I understand it and all of these movies together but yea,,, also it's fun to see men being 'rescued' and essentially just existing characters in place of women (but that could be just me 🤷‍♀️)

Oh hey, The Little Mermaid, might as well give it a go.
Hans Christian Anderson quote to start off, good choice.
This opening sequence feels long? I miss a song to deliver exposition.
Oof, the cgi is…not good. Disney know there are real life coral reefs they could have shot footage in, right?
Love the mermaid aesthetic! Shame about the cgi. The sisters sitting there mute and badly rendered doesn’t help.
Tumblr media
Ariel passes the MSR test - Flounder, not so much.
Why is the Scuttle sequence taking place underwater? No wonder the budget was astronomical.
It also undermines the scene with Trident and ironically makes Ariel less rebellious? She doesn’t break the rules by regularly going to the surface, her first time is rescuing Eric.
Halle Bailey has a beautiful voice - I actually really love the belting.
Oh I get it, they wanted this shot and reverse engineered Ariel never having been to the surface around it.
Tumblr media
Now we’re getting Fathoms Below. Ok.
Aw, I like Ariel helping Max swim.
Eric reaching for Ariel’s hand as she’s singing the reprise is a nice touch.
Why is the bulk of Ursula’s dialogue explaining the plot already happening? Lots of showing and telling in this movie.
Eric’s song is no Her Voice, but I get what they’re going for.
Javier Bardem is a very subdued Triton - maybe it’s a case of the greenscreens.
I do kind of love what they did for Ariel’s hair.
Tumblr media
This movie is 2 hours 20 minutes long, and it’s because half the scenes are twice as long as they need to be. I don’t want to get into the weeds with comparisons, but the animated film screenplay was tight. Not a word wasted.
Case in point, Ursula doesn’t just say she’ll make Ariel human, she then explains that she’ll lose her tail and won’t be able to breathe underwater. Trust the actors (and the audience) please! Not everything needs to be articulated.
So Ariel doesn’t remember she needs to get Eric to kiss her? Is this trying to fix a plothole that doesn’t exist?
Between this and Eric being adopted things are needlessly complicated yet have little bearing on the plot or characters.
Tumblr media
I do like Eric’s observatory visually mirroring Ariel’s grotto as well as thematically. It’s a cute bonding scene, these two have nice chemistry.
The market scene is nice, but has real filmed using covid safe protocols vibes. It’s begging for a proper song and dance sequence.
Ariel has never been to the surface, but can pick out star constellations?
The on land half of the film is overall more successful than the undersea half.
Tumblr media
Look. It’s fine. A compelling central performance from Halle Bailey, and once you get over the terrible cgi there are things to enjoy.
But it falls into the trap of much of Disney’s live action output - on one level it tries to add to the story, but on the other it’s slavishly devoted to recreating iconic scenes and lines, except most of the time they just don’t translate to live action, or the original voice performance/line reading was so strong tweaking it comes across as lacklustre.
Tumblr media
I really wish this had been in the vein of the live action Cinderella and The Jungle Book - inspired by the original animated film but creating their own aesthetic/take/interpretation. There’s a lot to mine in the story of The Little Mermaid, and there was almost the attempt here by making more of the land/sea old world/new world conflict but ultimately very little is done with it.

The FNAF Movie (no spoilers)
So, I just got back from watching the so awaited Five Nights at Freddy's movie, and boy oh boy... I can't even put into words how emotional I am. It was such a wild, crazy, amazing thing to actually be sitting down on a cinema and watch a movie I waited for- what, 8 years? I remember being a child and first learning about the game through ✨youtube✨ (as most of us did let's be honest), and I'm not exaggerating when I say that changed my life forever. I got into gaming and social media because of it, I made some of my best friends because of it (shout out to the gang I used to rp FNAF with on elementary school), I discovered my interests and passions that shaped who I was and who I am, and it all started out because of a silly horror game about haunted animatronics.
And today? Today it wasn't me that went to see that movie. It was the lonely, shy 9 year old girl that got bullied at school because she liked "weird boy stuff" and hanged out with boys because they understood her. It was the 10 year old girl that saw FNAF 3 and 4 come out and discovered she loved to uncover the lore of the franchise and watched about a million theory videos. It was the 11 year old girl that watched lived as two youtubers played Sister Location the day it came out. It was the 15 year old teenager that rediscovered her love for the franchise and found Matpat's channel and started to make her own theories. It was that 16 year old teen that read the first trilogy of FNAF books and from then on took it upon herself to know every single detail about the story, plus finding out about our beloved King Of Five Nights At Freddy's™ and watched his FNAF playlist top to bottom.
It was them.
So I went there- with my crappy Vanny mask I made in 3 days, with the Freddy pushy I've had since I was 11, with my dad' stolen purple shirt, and honestly? I had the time of my life. I was at the edge of my seat the whole movie, screaming and hitting (lovingly /j) my friends every time a very specific detail came out, giggling and kicking my feet once You Know Who appeared or when something that matched the lore perfectly happened. And once me and my friends came out, we were all still yelling and singing our lungs out to FNAF songs. It was more that I could've hoped for.
I won't go into much detail on this post, because I wanna keep it as much spoiler-free as I can, but I'm just gonna say this... This movie was a hug from Scott Cawthon to all fans of the franchise, especially those that have been here from the very beginning. It was his gift. His way of saying 'thank you'. Sure, some plot points were absolute bonkers, and to be fair it lacked a bit of the Spooky Factor and more gore. But overall... I FREAKING LOVED EVERY MOMENT OF IT. I felt the same excitement that when I first discovered the games and started to get into the lore. You can tell that a lot of heart and soul was put into this, and that it wasn't made for a quick cash grab.
Was it worth the wait? Well, that depends on how you wanna see it. Keep in mind that this is planned to be a trilogy, so it has to have some loose plot points in order to set the ground for a second movie- let alone leave stuff out from the games and books. Is wasn't groundbreaking, and no, it doesn't include every single detail about the story. But it was a perfect introduction to the universe, and I think that's all it's set up to be. But I personally thought it was SO worth it and, let's be real, we've waited 8 fucking years for this! Even if it turned out to be a piece of crap (which it isn't), I would still be excited.
Anyway, yeah, was the movie perfect? No. Was a bit weird and confusing at some points? Yes. But it was made for the fans, for those of us that FNAF played a huge role in our lives as kids, and for those of us who just discovered the franchise not so long ago. It was made with love- for the games, for the creator, and for all of us. The fans that have built an amazing community that still stands strong today, a community filled with incredibly talented people like artists, singers, animators, youtubers, theory crafters (you're doing God's Work jsdhsj), cosplayers, editors, writers, the list just goes on and on. It was made with all of us in mind. So as broken and confusing as it might be, is beautiful. What represents is beautiful. And hey, it wouldn't be FNAF if it weren't broken and confusing am I right fellas?
*cries in Theorist*
So I guess my final thoughts are just... Thank you.
Thank you Scott Cawthon for all those years of scares and joy you have given me, thank you for making the game that would shape my life forever, thank you for loving your fans as much as you do, and thank you for not giving up on this movie despite all the things that happened along the way. You might have fucked up big time on some things, but I would be lying to myself if I said I don't appreciate you. Thank you for the best moments of my life.
And thank YOU, Five Nights at Freddy's community for everything you have done these years. If the franchise is what it is today is because it always had an amazing and creative fanbase backing it up and making sure it never died, no matter what sticks and stones came our way. I am so proud to be a part of this, and I hope we'll still be together many years to come.
And thank me, for making it alive and in one piece to the FNAF movie. Damn it took a lot of pain to get here, but I did it... I survived this long. And I can survive even longer.
I hope you can stay alive 5 more nights for this :)

i p r o m i s e i will send you more of these tomorrow after i have slept but for now... what about 📚 🚫 💘 🎂 for my boys alexei and elijah????
Aaaaaah tysm for sending me this for my boys (and for all of your lovely asks) ily! I welcome anything else you want to send me about anyone.
📚 BOOKS — what level of education has your oc most recently completed/is currently in (GED, undergraduate, grad school, phd, etc)?
Alexei got his bachelor's degree in English Lit, then completed a teaching credential program. A couple of years after he started teaching, he went back to school to get his M.Ed because he's crazy like that. That's the last thing he's done although in the future he's going to do an MFA in creative writing. He enjoys being a student. Yeah, I don't know where he gets it either.
Elijah got through undergrad and got his bachelor's degree. He wasn't especially interested in going to college (he'd managed to build his streaming stuff up really well throughout high school, and was signed to a pro esports team), but his parents insisted and he wanted to shut them up. He majored in art partly because he's actually really interested in it and it would make the four years tolerable, and partly because he knew it would drive his parents up the wall (they really wanted him to major in something more serious and "grownup", and kept trying to push him into premed like his sister) and make his father's forehead vein pop.
🚫 PROHIBITED — does your oc drink/smoke? do they do it regularly, or is it more on occasion or for special events?
Neither of them are big drinkers. Elijah may have the very occasional hard seltzer if he's doing a fun, chill stream, or something if they're out on a fancy date night but he's just not a big fan of it overall. Alexei's pretty similar - might have a cocktail if they're out on a date or if he goes to a happy hour with his co-workers. If he does have a drink, he likes his sweet, fruity and preferably with a tiny umbrella.
Neither smoke, but they both enjoy edibles on occasion. It's usually a weekend thing - Elijah will make them some fancy snacks, they'll both have a gummy and spend the day catching up on a favorite show or watching movies together and just hanging out. Sometimes they'll go out for a walk in the park near their apartment and commune with nature, do a little people-watching, grab lunch together and chill.
💘 HEART WITH ARROW — what and/or who do(es) your oc consider the most important to them?
Elijah's absolute favorite people in the entire world are Alexei, and his older sister, Lucy. He's also ride-or-die for all of his teammates (Jude, Apollo, Omar, Flora, Nico and Noelle) and his boss, Rosa, who's basically a second mom to him (he's been working at her coffee shop since he was about 15 and she adores him).
Alexei is very family-oriented and, next to Elijah, his moms, younger brother and older sister are the most important people in his life. After that, it's Chase and Reiko. Chase is a teacher at the same school, and they've become incredibly close friends. He took a few of Reiko's classes in undergrad (and is going to take more with her when he goes back to get his MFA), she really took him under her wing and mentored him as a writer and they've developed such a close friendship.
🎂 BIRTHDAY CAKE — when is your oc's birthday? how old are they? what are their sun, moon, & rising signs (if known)? what about their tarot card, ruling planet, & ruling number (if known)? do they fit the typical traits of these sun, moon, & rising signs?
Alexei's 29 years old, and his birthday is on July 19th. He a Cancer sun, Libra moon with a Virgo ascendant. He embodies his big three traits pretty well. He's very family and relationship-oriented, is nurturing and compassionate, hates conflict and is a natural peacekeeper. He tends to be really well-liked no matter who he's around - he's just got fantastic, soothing energy and tends to be very diplomatic so he can get along with almost anyone. He's hyper-organized, especially at work. He's absolutely that teacher that has weeks of sub plans stashed away if he needs them, and they're all incredibly detailed. He can be a bit fussy sometimes, and a little indecisive when he's stressed. He can definitely be prone to having some very Cancerian big feelings, but the Libra moon tamps those down a bit and mostly keeps them on the inside.
Elijah's 26 years old, and his birthday is on November 18th. He's a Scorpio sun, Leo moon with a Gemini ascendant and he's classic. Think all of the Scorpio intensity and emotional depth, with the charisma, creativity, desire for recognition and self-confidence of a Leo. Throw in a twist of restlessness, curiosity, adaptability and such a way with words and you've got Elijah. Those traits can definitely clash a bit sometimes, and he has to keep himself from flitting from one thing to the next rather than being focused on one big goal, but he usually manages to strike a good balance and make it all work together cohesively.

Recap all da hungry gmaes
Okay, okay, this is going to be long as hell beware I am recapping four books here one of which is 500 pages long :) Bullet points bc paragraphs are annoying and slight inaccuracy is inevitable <3
The Hunger Games (Book One)
It's the morning of the reaping for the 74th Hunger Games and Katniss just observes her house for a while
Her sister Prim is with their mother so Katniss is like, she's been so nervous but there's no way she gets picked, her name is only in there once and mine is in there about about thirty times so...
Katniss leaves to go hunting and meets up with Gale (🤮) her bestie
They have breakfast in the woods and Gale is like lets take our families and run away together and Katniss is like nah lets not
Then they go back to town to sell their meat and they picked some strawberries too
They sell strawberries to the mayor and his daughter Madge is there and she's kind of friends with Katniss but Gale hates her cuz he's stupid
Madge's got this Mockingjay pin on her dress that is really pointed out because it's important later
Katniss goes home and her mother and sister are getting ready. Her dad is dead now btw so they're poor
Katniss's mom is pretty mentally ill, when her husband died she just shut down for months and left her ten year old daughter to take care of everything so Katniss doesn't like her too much
On to the reaping! (this is still chapter one)
Effie is there from the capitol so she's super eccentric and the district people think she's ridiculous which she is
Effie picks the girl's name first and what do you know, it's Prim
Katniss is like absolutely fucking not and volunteers which is a big deal because she's the first one to ever do that in District 12
Then Effie picks the boy's name and it's Peeta Mellark
Katniss is immediately like anyone but him please because he saved her life
So back when her dad first died a few years ago, the whole family was starving to death, Peeta threw them some burnt bread even though he would get in trouble and now she feels like she owes him something
She says goodbye to her family and Madge gives her the Mockingjay pin as a token
Then they're off to the capitol
On the train, they meet Haymitch who is always drunk and Katniss and Peeta make him stop drinking so he can mentor them properly
They get to the capitol and ride in a chariot while their stylist Cinna sets them on fire :D
Then they train and the career tributes (from districts 1 and 2) are laughing at Peeta and Katniss and just overall being bitches
Katniss sees Rue, a 12 year old girl being sneaky and hiding from everybody up high. She immediately wants to ally with her
Then they do their evaluations, so Katniss goes into a room and shoots an arrow at the gamemakers
Katniss thinks she's gonna be punished, but the gamemakers apparently liked it because she got the highest ranking out of anyone
Interview time!
Peeta wants to be trained separately, and keep in mind she's been mistrusting of him this whole time, so she now thinks he's plotting against her
At her interview, she's really nervous, but the crowd likes her dress and they think she's at least a little charming
Then Peeta goes up and does one of the most iconic things ever
He's being really charming on stage and laying it on quite thick with the host
The host asks if he has a girlfriend and Peeta's like no but I've had a crush on this one girl forever.
Host says something like win and she'll be in love with you instantly then Peeta says I can't because she came here with me
Katniss flips out and thinks it's a ploy to help them win the games (I can't remember if she attacks him in the book or if that's just the movie)
That night, Katniss and Peeta have a deep conversation on the roof and Peeta says that he doesn't want them to change him
Time for the games! Finally!
Cinna is really nice to Katniss and gives her Mockingjay pin to put on her jacket
In the arena, Katniss looks around her as the countdown starts for them to leave their podiums
Haymitch said don't go to the weapons pile but Katniss can't follow orders for shit and goes to fight it out in the weapons pile
She tries to get the bow, but only gets a backpack filled with good stuff before running away
She sets up camp in a tree for a while and slowly dehydrates
Then the arena around her sets on fire and leads her to water so she sets up camp in another tree where the careers find her
Not so good news, Peeta is with them :(
They have the bow, but can't shoot or climb for shit, so they can't kill her. Peeta suggests they wait until she has to come down
Rue appears in a nearby tree and points to a murderous wasp nest above Katniss and she saws it off to land on the careers and Peeta
Katniss is stung and hallucinates, but Peeta tells her to run away before the careers get to her
She passes out, and when she wakes up, Rue is taking care of her. They become allies from there out
She becomes really close with Rue and they spend a lot of time together. I can't remember any specific scenes, but Katniss does say that if can't win she wants Rue to instead
They come up with a plan to destroy the careers supplies pile which is quite literally a pile of stuff in an open field. They took the landmines that were around the podiums and rigged them around the pile
So Rue and Katniss set fires to distract the careers and leave the supply pile unguarded. Katniss then blows it up
She goes to find Rue, but the girl is wrapped up in a net. Another tribute comes by and throws a spear at her and Katniss kills him
As Rue dies, Katniss sings to her, and holds a small funeral for her by decorating her body with flowers
After, there's an announcement from the gamemakers that says there can be two winners this year as long as they're from the same district!
Katniss just shouts Peeta's name and goes to look for him
She tracks his blood to the river and calls his name. He responds and she's like where are you as she steps on a rock. He responds, don't step on me (this is my favorite part)
Peeta is badly injured, and is half dead as is. They make camp in a cave and she tries to nurse him back to health.
She kisses him so Haymitch will send them medicine and make the crowd sympathize with them
There's an announcement saying the remaining tributes can get a backpack with the stuff they need in it at the weapons pile
Katniss goes to get it and gets attacked by one of the remaining career tributes. A different tribute saves her life for what she did for Rue
Katniss brings Peeta the medicine and he heals
Last few nights of the games they wander out of the cave hunting Cato, the last tribute, and are attacked by mutts
Cato dies and they win yay!
EXCEPT the announcer reverses it on them and says there can only be one winner
So Katniss and Peeta prepare for suicide so they'll have no winner
The announcer stops them and says there can be two winners just this once
They get ready for their post games interview, and Peeta has lost a leg apparently
Haymitch warns Katniss that things are about to go to shit
On the way home, Peeta is like what do we do now, and Katniss says she wants to forget everything and Peeta gets upset because he realizes Katniss didn't actually have feelings and he did
And that's all I have the energy for sorry this took so long to get out I am just now clearing out my drafts :)

Green Giant Legend vs Moon Exploration
Something I thought about after watching Green Giant Legend a few months back really struck me, in that Moon Exploration feels very similar to it in a different flavor of sci-fi.
Of course, I think we all know by now Doraemon movies usually have a consistent thing they have going on in them. Like Suneo freaking out about life ending danger, common thread between most of the movies.
However, it feels like Moon Exploration follows the same beats as Green Giant Legend in terms of overall plot.
I wish I wrote this months earlier, because I feel my more detailed thoughts have vanished as I haven’t even watched Moon Exploration since last year. Maybe one day I can update this to be more precise.
KIBO AND LUCA
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The two central new characters in their respective movies, difference being is that Kibo is an actually cute mascot type fitting for the feel of it and Luka is a boy pulled from an entirely different anime movie with rabbit ears slapped on top.
Luka has an angsty vibe about him, the mysterious new kid energy- he wishes he was Riruru essentially. Kibo is a cute little tree with energy that reminds you of a little sibling, and he remains as one of the few mascot type characters in a Doraemon movie I like. Right up there with Piisuke and Fuuko, in my book.
The only similarity they truly share is that they are both essentially fuel for weapons, granted Luca shares this trait amongst all the Espal. Point being, they both befriend Nobita and have to be saved in the end from being used to destroy the Earth.
Also, while there is no equivalent to Princess Rire in Moon Exploration, it’s at least notable to say her and Luka both serve to be a leader for their people.
A CRUSH FOR SUNEO
I think this is what made me come to think about the similarities in the first place. In that both films decided that he should have some form of romantic interest, and that said interest honestly could not be in the film and it’d be no different.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However Mai and Suneo I thought were quaint, in the sense the plot knew she isn’t part of the grand scope of it. This movie carries a lot of small character moments that don’t add much to the plot, but are great in showing characterization and just being sweet. Mai may not matter overall, but all these small moments add an extra touch to the film that makes it charming.
When it comes to Luna, she is set up to be important to the plot just as Luca is, being his sister. Instead she’s sidelined just as Shizuka is, but remains a film constant. The crush, just like her, feels like it’s kind of just there to be there? Unlike with Green Giant Legend, the small bits of character flavor that do exist don’t feel all that charming. They serve it’s purpose, but it feels very baseline.
That, and when it comes to Mai I feel like I won’t be uncomfortable if she even looks at Suneo wrong. Luna is a thousand and if we aren’t counting that, fifteen years old.
At least the consistent thing is that Suneo likes girls with colored hair? That’s my takeaway.
THE PLOT
It’s about adventures in space, as many Doraemon movies come to be at times. Nobita want to help the Espal, and Nobita wants to help Kibo. Kibo and the Espal are both something far greater than they even want to be. The main crew has to save the earth from a type of world ending destruction powered by the new friends they made, and they all get a sort of match amongst the new characters. Except Shizuka, at least in Moon Exploration she gets the rabbit people Nobita made. I guess?
While I feel like Green Giant Legend has something to say about nature, life and environmental safety... I guess the lesson for Moon Exploration would be don’t use super powered rabbit children as fuel for your weapon? On a less joking note, I’d suppose it’s about appreciating and respecting life as at the end the Espal give up their immortality. I don’t think it really connects to the rest of the movie, or says anything new.
All this being said, I still enjoyed watching Moon Exploration but it really did strike me how it was a much less charming version of Green Giant Legend. You can still watch both and still be entertained, it’s just about how the core of it feels the same but it’s surface doesn’t.

Just one look and I can hear a bell ring. One more look and I forget everything.
Script below the break
Hello and welcome back to The Rewatch Rewind! My name is Jane, and this is the podcast where I count down my top 40 most rewatched movies. Today I will be talking about number 26 on my list: Universal Pictures, Littlestar Productions, Playtone, and Relativity Media’s 2008 musical Mamma Mia!, directed by Phyllida Lloyd, written by Catherine Johnson adapted from the stage musical book also by Catherine Johnson, and starring Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård, and Colin Firth.
Shortly before getting married, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), who was raised by single mom Donna (Meryl Streep), discovers that she has three possible fathers: Sam (Pierce Brosnan), Bill (Stellan Skarsgård), and Harry (Colin Firth). She decides to invite them all to her wedding, assuming that she’ll know her father on sight and her life will feel complete. Dysfunction, hilarity, and ABBA songs ensue.
Okay so I’m going to apply what my sister Rosemary said about Newsies to Mamma Mia!: this movie is objectively not good. The plot doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, most of the songs don’t really help tell the story in a particularly meaningful way, and the singing is not great. This is the kind of movie musical I was criticizing in the Chicago episode for casting stars who aren’t really singers and just letting them sing badly. Not that everyone in Mamma Mia! is a terrible singer; they’re just…not all great. I can’t say that every singer in Chicago is better than every singer in Mamma Mia! because then Christine Baranski would have to be better than herself. Anyway, while I recognize that this is not a good movie, it does make me feel good. Watching it gives me a rush of dopamine, and I think I was practically addicted to it for a while. Part of that is because it came out at exactly the right time for me.
I wouldn’t say that I was a particularly big ABBA fan prior to seeing this movie, but I did enjoy some of their songs. The main thing I remember about my senior prom – which, incidentally, was in May of 2008 – is that for most of the evening I didn’t recognize any of the music. I’m sure they were popular songs of the day, since a lot of my peers were singing along, but as discussed in previous episodes, I spent most of high school listening to Julie Andrews, so I was very out of touch. But toward the end of the evening, when most kids had left for afterparties or whatever, they started playing older songs for the chaperones, and I remember being so thrilled when Dancing Queen came on – finally, I song I knew!
A few months later, when I saw Mamma Mia! in theaters, even though I didn’t recognize a lot of the songs, I still felt a similar thrill at the uplifting tone of the music. And I really needed it. In addition to the whole “I just graduated from high school and I have no clue what I’m doing with my life and the world is dark and scary” thoughts that were dominating my consciousness, that specific weekend was particularly stressful. Rosemary and I were at this youth church retreat focused on service and social justice, which overall was interesting, except only one other youth from our church came with us, and he wasn’t even there the whole time, and our youth leader had a lot of other responsibilities and couldn’t spend a lot of time with us either, so I was mostly just hanging out with my sister and the assistant youth leader, trying to figure out what we were supposed to be doing. It was fine, but it felt a little bit like nobody wanted to hang out with us. But then at one point we had an afternoon of free time between retreat activities, and the leader who had barely been around decided we should go see a movie, but then she had trouble finding the theater. So we walked in a few minutes after Mamma Mia! had started. My sister had seen it before, but I had not. I was kind of frustrated with the whole dysfunctional youth group situation going into it, but it only took a few minutes of the movie to make me feel like I would never be frustrated again.
I saw it at least twice in theaters, and later got it on DVD and could not stop rewatching it. I managed to see it six times in 2008 and five times in 2009. And then, just like with Frozen a few years later, I hit the 11 views in a little over a year threshold and needed to take a break. Also like Frozen, there were a lot of people bashing it online, but at least with Mamma Mia! I didn’t care quite as much. With Frozen I deeply related to the characters and felt personally attacked by the criticism. Mamma Mia! hate irritated me, but if other people couldn’t handle its happiness and fun, that was their loss. Anyway, after 2009 I kept listening to the soundtrack, but I didn’t rewatch Mamma Mia! again until 2016, when I saw it once. Then I watched it twice in 2018, and once in each year after that. My love for this movie was revitalized in 2018 because that was when I saw the stage show for the first time, and then a few months later the sequel/prequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again came out. It’s weird because the story had already made very little sense, and then that movie directly contradicted so many things from the first one that the whole thing became even more utterly incomprehensible, and yet, somehow, that doesn’t really bother me too much. The plot is not the point; I’m here for the mood.
Watching this movie really feels like going on vacation. It was mostly filmed on location on a gorgeous Greek island, and the bright sunshine and sparkling sea mixed with upbeat ABBA jams really melt all worldly cares away. Which is a little odd because the characters go through a lot of stressful drama. But to the audience, the stakes never feel very high. Donna is stressed after seeing her three former lovers, but mostly because she doesn’t want Sophie to find out about them, when we know that Sophie was the one who invited them. Sophie is stressed because she doesn’t immediately recognize her father, and maybe some audience members do want to know which one it is, but ultimately it doesn’t matter, and she just needs to learn that.
It may seem a little strange that an aromantic asexual like me would love a movie so full of relentlessly alloromantic and allosexual characters, but I really enjoy that, even though most of them do predictably end up paired off romantically by the end, there’s a lot of focus on trios of friends. Sophie has her two bridesmaids, and Donna has her two best friends – arguably the best characters in the movie, played by the always fabulous Christine Baranski and Julie Walters. And then there are the three fathers, who don’t know each other at the beginning but develop a nice bromance by the end, when they agree to share the honor of being Sophie’s dad. These three friendship trios, along with the mother-daughter relationship between Donna and Sophie, seem stronger and more important than most of the romantic pairs, and as I’ve said before, that’s really what I want out of most movies. I’m never suggesting that romance should be eliminated entirely; I’m merely sick of romantic partnerships constantly being portrayed as the number one most important relationship in everyone’s lives. So I enjoy that Mamma Mia! focuses so much on non-romantic relationships, even in the midst of its romances.
I also appreciate the ways that the story challenges the traditional family structure of one man married to one woman, raising their biological children together. Not that there’s anything wrong with that; obviously, that works for a lot of people, and that’s great for them. But that’s not going to work for everyone, and there isn’t anything wrong with that either, but there’s a major stigma against wanting, or ending up with, any other kind of family structure, which goes hand-in-hand with the stigma against women having sex outside of marriage. When Donna got pregnant with Sophie, her mother disowned her – at least according to the first movie, when her mother is described as a deceased pious Catholic; not according to Here We Go Again, when her mother is a living eccentric entertainer played by Cher, who conveniently had a passionate love affair with a man named Fernando, but that’s not important. Sophie doesn’t seem to have been neglected or love starved in any way as a result of being raised by a single mom, and yet she is obsessed with finding her father simply so he can give her away at her wedding. And like, I personally have a problem with a tradition wherein one man essentially transfers ownership of a woman to a different man, but I can kind of see how, if the bride has a particularly close relationship with her father, this could be a meaningful moment. But in Sophie’s case, it makes no sense. What meaning is there in walking down the aisle with a man you met for the first time the day before? Once she thinks about it for two seconds, Sophie realizes that it makes way more sense for Donna – the person who raised her – to give her away, but prior to that she has been so steeped in amatonormativity that she not only thinks she needs to get married at 20, but also resents her mom for not settling down with a partner before she was born. Not because she really needed her dad to be in the picture, but because she thinks she was supposed to need that. When she finally realizes that she’s fine with not knowing who her biological father is, Sophie also realizes that she doesn’t want to get married yet. On the one hand, since she’s already at the altar at this point, and she’s planning on traveling with her fiancé (played by Dominic Cooper), it kind of seems like they could have gotten married and then done that, fighting the idea that married couples have to be boring and settled. But on the other hand, the main reason she wanted to rush into marriage was so she could meet her father and have him give her away at her wedding, which is a really bad reason to get married, so from that perspective it makes sense to postpone it. Now, would I like this movie better if Donna also didn’t get married? Absolutely, especially because she marries the rudest and most entitled of the possible dads. But if that’s what makes her happy, I’m fine with it.
It's worth mentioning that this is my 15th episode and it’s the first time I’m talking about a movie that was directed solely by a woman – Frozen was co-directed by a man and a woman – and that it was also written by a woman. I know I said that this isn’t a good movie, but Hollywood is so saturated with mediocre films made by mediocre men that it’s rather refreshing to see a big-budget blockbuster made by women that, if it’s a bit of a mess, at least is a fun mess. For once, the female characters are complex and relatively well developed, and the men mainly serve as eye candy for the straight women in the audience. Also, given the observations I made in past episodes about how much younger Cary Grant’s leading ladies were compared to him later in his career, it’s nice to see a movie with great roles for actresses over 40. Meryl Streep was pushing 60 when this movie came out, which made her about 15-20 years older than the character she was playing, but I mean, it’s Meryl Streep – she could play any character of any age convincingly. Dancing Queen is a song I used to associate with youth – the lyrics literally say “young and sweet, only 17” – but its context in this film turns it into a song about feeling young at heart regardless of numerical age, and empowering women to step away from their responsibilities and dance down to the water and jump in, for some reason. Like much of the movie, that scene doesn’t make a ton of sense, but I absolutely love it. I mean, yes, the fighting amatonormativity aspects are great and all, but let’s be honest, that has very little to do with why I love this movie. The real reason I love Mamma Mia! is because it falls into probably my favorite category of movie, which I like to call Everybody Making This Was Having Way Too Much Fun.
And nothing more perfectly demonstrates that than the end credits. I know that saying that my favorite part of the movie is the end credits sounds like I’m implying that it’s because I’m glad the movie is over, but seriously, the end credits of Mamma Mia! are EVERYTHING. They start with Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski, and Julie Walters in amazingly ridiculous 1970s costumes singing and dancing to a reprise of Dancing Queen, which is delightful in and of itself. Then after the song ends, Meryl asks the audience, “Do you want another one?” a few times, and then they start performing Waterloo. When they get to the chorus, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård, and Colin Firth join them wearing similar costumes, as do Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper a bit later, and the whole experience truly defies description in the best possible way. If you haven’t seen this movie, please, I am begging you, look up the end credits on YouTube, I promise you will not be disappointed. Colin Firth’s commitment alone is worth watching. In fact, Colin Firth’s performance is consistently one of my favorite parts of the movie. The way the clearly deliberate Harry tries to convince people that he’s spontaneous is hilarious and perfectly done. While I would prefer to see LGBTQ+ characters played by LGBTQ+ actors, I feel like Colin Firth does a relatively good job of playing gay in Mamma Mia! without being too disrespectful about it. And then he rocks his ridiculous outfit at the end and puts his entire being into that dance as if he has been waiting his whole life for an opportunity to do something like this. When asked in an interview, “If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?”, Colin Firth famously answered, “I personally thought you were very good in Mamma Mia!” Obviously I can’t speak for God, but I personally think that “very good” is an understatement.
I could talk about how Pierce Brosnan was miscast, but I think that’s been discussed enough, so all I’ll say is he tried. His character’s bad communication skills irritate me far more than the actor’s bad singing. Seriously, this entire situation could have been avoided if back in the day Sam had told Donna that he was going home to break up with his fiancée and then coming back to her, but no, he for some reason thought she would be waiting for him when all she knew was that he was engaged to someone else. And then in present day, he just lets her think he’s still married, and stands there silently while she sings the entirety of The Winner Takes It All, bringing the plot, such as it was, to a grinding halt, when it would have taken him like two seconds to say, “I’m divorced and I’m still in love with you.” He doesn’t tell her he's divorced until after he proposes! It’s like, dude, you can’t keep waiting until the most dramatic moment possible to tell people things! No wonder your first marriage fell apart! Even though I know that the story is nonsense, I can’t help overanalyzing it anyway, because as much as I don’t feel like I should, I really do absolutely love everything about this movie.
And the feeling that I should be ashamed of something I’m not actually ashamed of was particularly pertinent around the time this movie came out, because graduates of my high school are kind of expected to head straight to a prestigious 4-year university, and I was just going to a community college. I knew it was the right decision for me at the time, but other people made me feel like I should feel bad about it. I have this distinct memory, probably from late 2008 or early 2009, of standing in the aisle of a crowded bus heading to community college and listening to Meryl Streep singing the Mamma Mia! title song and just feeling so happy and at peace. There was nowhere I would have rather been at that moment than on that bus listening to that song. I felt okay with following my own path at my own pace, and I felt okay with loving a movie other people said was garbage. Sometimes I still struggle to maintain that mindset, but rewatching Mamma Mia! is one of the things that helps remind me.
Thank you for listening to me discuss another of my most rewatched movies, especially if you’re someone who does not enjoy Mamma Mia! I do sincerely hope that each and every person listening has at least one movie that they know isn’t good but still love anyway. It’s a very different feeling from loving a movie that is almost universally praised by critics and audiences alike, although they’re both great feelings. In fact, the movie I’ll be talking about next week falls into the latter category, so stay tuned for my thoughts on a much more highly acclaimed film, which is the shortest of five that I watched 19 times in the 20 years I was tracking. As always, I will leave you with a quote from that next movie: “Forgive me for not leaping for joy. Bad back, you know.”

sage, aloe vera, nutmeg! 🥰
sage ⇢ what ‘medium’ of art (poetry, music, fiction, paintings, statues etc.) is the most touching to you? why do you think that is?
Again, this comes as no surprise to anyone who has spent any length of time around me, but film <3 And also theatre and music of course but film is my whole world as an autistic person, always has been :3 It's hard to explain WHY I latched onto it so hard, but my parents have always affirmed that the first thing to REALLY hold my attention was Disney movies and that's kind of where it all started?
I mean, a part of this comes as self reflection that came with my love for the live action Little Mermaid, but it had me looking back at how the original animated film was my FAVORITE movie as a tiny child; but it really made me think about how even as a child, I saw so much of myself in Ariel and her obsessive, dare I say autistic, love for all things human even though she was limited in how much she could connect with that world herself <3 I'm sure there's a lot of other examples and it runs even deeper than that, but just the fact that film as a medium tells stories that both let you escape from the world and also let you see a part of yourself reflected back at you, even if you're not necessarily aware of it at the time?
And more than that, I add because of how movies like Hereditary and Bones and All and even Nimona made me reevaluate the possibilities of what film can be, it comes down to the fact that movies make you FEEL strong emotions and a really good movie should ultimately make you think to some degree and connect the dots as to the why and how, as part of the overall experience <3 just UGH, MOVIES!!!!!
aloe vera ⇢ what’s something (mundane) you really want to experience in life?
Dye my hair <3 It's something I've always wanted to do but never had the gumption or really gave myself permission to do, despite my parents finally having gotten over their reservations with it -- probably because my sister recently dyed her hair blonde and it looks fantastic :P I mean my mom also went blonde several decades ago but that's neither here nor there XD But I've always wanted to have red hair; again, going back to the Ariel thing, and other movies I adored as a kid like Anastasia :3 So maybe soon~
nutmeg ⇢ how’s your room/home decorated? do you have a specific theme or style going on?
Oh my room is a cluttered nightmare, my sisters gently call my a hoarder :P But as my therapist points out, it's hard to keep your ENTIRE LIFE contained in one tiny room; especially as a collector like me XD But it's largely movie themed; I have posters up everywhere that I brought home from the theatre where I used to work, and I have all kinds of other stuff on display that I've collected and I'm very proud of; like my POP figures, charms, pins, art prints, dolls, plushies, and of course piles of books I have yet to read XD
Thank you so so much for asking, Rook!! <3

1. What are you currently reading?
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. Not going to lie, I've really struggled getting into this book. Setting it up as a "80% of the trainees are killed by the time they graduate" (which is just terrible education and a horrible way of running a war) and our protagonist is a waify girl with disabilities who has only been training for 6 months when the rest of her classmates have been preparing for this for their entire lives - it just really is asking me to set aside all reality.
The Ladies of Grace Adieu, and Other Stories by Susanna Clarke (audiobook). I wanted something short to listen to and I wanted to get back into the world of Jonathan Strange.
The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher. I haven't been as fond of her horror stories as I am with her fairy tale retellings/fantasies, but it's off to a good start.
2. What have you recently finished reading?
The Anthropocene Reviewed: Essays on A Human-Centered Planet by John Green. I've always loved John Green's videos that he made with his brother and these essays read much like those videos - small bits of information, tied into how we live and connect in this world. These essays were heartbreaking and poignant and depressing and inspiring.
Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer (audiobook). An exploration of how science and indigenous husbandry can and should work together. While not mincing words about how we have destroyed so much of the natural world and its teachings, it was also inspiring for becoming the change we want. Lovely book.
The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman. Checked this out from the library back in August and it had just sat on my shelf (my library does automatic renewals if there's no waitlist). It was a light read and overall enjoyable (although if I had a boss who didn't pay the rent for 6 months straight and I was threatened with losing my job because of it, I wouldn't be all "oh she's just that way.")
3. What will you be reading next?
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir - I got it from the library and then my sister stole it from me. Sweet Like Jasmine by Bonnie Gray as part of my "friend recommendations for 2023" read (I'm not exactly looking forward to this one but I'm trying to keep an open mind), The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins (I had hoped to read it before the movie was released; we'll see if I succeed), Know My Name by Chanel Miller (book club).

JUST A CRAZY ROUGHNECKS DAUGHTER:
life isn’t much of anything when you’re the middle of 11 kids. on the farm it was early to rise and early to bed, everyone had a chore and unfortunately doris, the eldest of the kids, was given childcare duty more often than not. but the perk of being the middle of 11, is the ability to disappear. her father only cared about three (four) things; god, farm, family, whiskey. her mother followed a similar path and well...granny jo wasn’t the best idol according to her mother. and so ida decided to carve her own way in the world.
you see, the thing about being number six of eleven means you get exactly zero attention. and so you go seeking your attention elsewhere. and ida found that attention in the arms of bobby perkins. she was fourteen, him seventeen, and ida was smitten from day one. he talked her up, picked her up at the bonfires when she snuck out of the house, and promised that he would take her away from eastern tennessee. and then she graduated at 17 (a year early because to everyone’s surprise ida was actually quite intelligent), and took her to the majestic land that was florida.
living in a trailer park as bobby developed a bit of a following with his promise of love and freedom, and god-fearing community, ida realized just how much she liked the spotlight. she liked when people fawned over her, when they showered her with affection, and when they believed the words that left her mouth. it was easy work for her, talking to people, making them feel heard, inviting them in to the group. this was what she was made for.
but bobby didn’t like it. he didn’t like that others started to love ida more than him, that she would say something in opposition to him. always sweetly, always veiled as compliments and adoration for him. and so he came up with the plan to dump her, to leave her stranded, to get her away from his life, his goals.
and then suddenly ida was back on her parents front porch, saying she’d been accepted at ogden with a full ride, that bobby was still in florida and she had no idea what happened to him. and then she kissed her mother and father goodbye and moved to new hampshire for her future.
JUMPED HEADFIRST INTO THE WATER:
starting college as a freshman at twenty came with a whole list of questions. she answered them easily, she needed time between high school and college to get some real world experience. she wanted to travel, to work and save her money, but she always knew she would go, and that ogden was the place.
and then a year later greer started, and ida zeroed in on her. she was perfect for ida’s ego, for her life to befriend such a golden girl. to whisper words of wisdom. but soon greer, either seeing through ida’s facade or just over it altogether, gave ida the cold shoulder.
but she was undeterred, continuing on her merry way but always keeping an eye on the campus golden girl. she laughed when others needed the comedic boost, gave out compliments to those who needed it, and offered her support as needed. but it just isn’t enough is it?
BAPTIZED AWAY MY SINS:
looking forward, ida is hoping to continue to apply herself. charming anyone and everyone she can, collecting people in her pocket for when she needs them, making loyal friends and followers. currently she’s applying to master and phd programs, including the one at ogden, to continue her studies. and she’s keeping her eye out for the golden girl, curious to her disappearance, though a bit thrilled in the mystery. ida would never turn down the drama, and is not above going the extra mile when she’s a bit bored.
GREER:
ida entered college at age 20, with too much real-world experience it seemed. everyone was so boring at ogden, making problems out of nothing, feeding each other’s egos. and yet, ida knew what she could tap into while she was there, the wealth, the connections, the power. everything she needed, what she had never had. and enter greer, a beautiful eager girl with everything ida needed, everything she wanted to be. and so she quickly took to her side, hoping to offer friendship, advice, to mold her into the person that ida needed her to be. and it seemed to work for a while, greer maintaining her own self but still ida could clearly see her influences. until it stopped completely, greer icing her out of her life in one fell swoop. and in less than a year, ida went from building her empire and future on poor little greer, back to nothing. still she kept her tabs on greer, and she knew greer did the same. they acted polite and kind in public, a weird relationship of knowing each other but not really. ida played it off, acting as if greer was but a younger sibling to her. but to everyone else it was just an odd friendship that didn’t survive the test of time in college, nothing more and nothing less.
THE SIREN:
she pulls you in with her sweetness, but only when it’s too late do you realize her true colors. like sirens drown the sailors, ida isn’t afraid to take-down anyone she feels deserves it. Whether it is valid or not. she doesn’t care who it is, and sometimes she does it just for fun. breaking the hearts of boys and girls, dragging people's names through the mud, spreading a rumor to take them down completely. whatever it takes, she’ll do it. for her safety, for her entertainment, it doesn’t matter much to her. but even now, four years later at ogden, people haven’t seemed to really pick up on it. let’s face it, she won’t hesitate to push you in front of a bus, and will quite successfully convince you it had been an accident and she had been trying to save you from the bus.
extra:
previous tasks here
has a small shitty stick-and-poke tattoo of a cowboy hat just above her left elbow
has a small altar in her room decorated with random items that don’t make much sense to the outsider: a deer antler, a picture of a boy (bobby), a jar of ash, a few random stones, a small jar of honey, a jack daniels shooter

Brennus’ personal thoughts on the FNAF Movie
For those going into the movie for the first time: don't expect it to all be super serious
⚠️SPOILERS AHEAD⚠️
Overall, I think it's a fun movie. It's what I expected from a 15+ fnaf movie. Did I wish it could have been more brutal? Yeah, but I'm ok with the product as it currently stands.
Visually wise this movie is incredible from the animatronics themselves to the set. Absolutely great. Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, my beloved, you have brought the robots to life perfectly <3
My smallest visual gripe was for one of the kid jump scares in Mike’s dream where the kid’s eyes turn and cry black. You could tell it was like a face paint. It's a real child actor so maybe they couldn't get them to wear ‘better’ makeup but then again special effects could have been used the improve it, idk. I'm not a filmmaker I'm just a silly skeleton that draws.
One of the least believable kills was the one where Freddy bit a woman in two. That was really cartoony to me, I did giggle.
My biggest criticism of the movie is probably the story. But the more I think about possible “improvements” I think to myself… what else could they have done for a script for a fnaf movie? They need to balance a combo of digestible info to new viewers but also satisfy fans. I personally think they managed to cater more to the fans as seen with rotten tomato ratings. But I did watch this with my mother who only knows the story based on what my brother rambles about and she managed the understand the movie alright. However I don't know any opinion on the film from an individual who knows nothing of the franchise.
I personally really enjoyed the atmosphere in the first part of the movie. It was depressing and oppressive to watch Mike struggle through life. But that seems to change as the movie seems to shifts in tone when we discover the animatronics are nice to his sister Abby. I at first really didn't like this but seconds later I got swooped up by the wholesomeness. I was scared that doing this would remove the intimidation factor the animatronic built up during the run time. It did. But I think I understand the purpose of doing this. I still don't think it was a good idea but I think I know what the movie makers were trying to do.
They were trying to shift the villainy focus from the robots to Afton. Trying to say “Hey look they are on the good guy's side” even though they shift on a dime when they decide to kidnap Abby. We also see them brutally hunt down a group of thieves so the whole “look how cute they are being <3” is somewhat unbelievable. I see what they likely tried to do but I don't think it worked super wonderfully.
I like the foxy arcade machine reference. I don't remember if this is a scene in a Fazbear Frights or the Silver Eyes book. But in a book foxy in hunting an AFAB character through an arcade area, in the book he breaks the machines as he gets closer to his victim to build tension. I think that's what that scene with Foxy and Abby in the arcade was in reference to. Though he didn't break the arcade machines in the movie, I thought that added a lot to the original scene. However it's understandable because the robots in this depiction seem to like to keep the pizzeria intact.
Also I saw that theif who got killed by Chica was wearing a midnight motorist shirt, I see you.
Everyone expected the William Afton reveal. What I didn't expect was for VANNESSA to be AFTON’S DAUGHTER. It felt like a very less serious “I am your father” moment, except it's a “he is my father” moment. I did giggle when the reveal happened. For me, this was a signifier that the movie wasn't trying to be serious. The movie is trying to be fun.
Though with that twist it made me wonder what it was like for Vannessa to live with a father like Afton. That's when I wished they did more with her, that's when she got interesting to me. As the movie makes it seem Afton holds a lot of emotional power over her. She knows he is a killer, she is a cop, yet she doesn't report him or arrest him herself. Her standing up to Afton at the end really feels like an abuse victim standing up against their abuser and I kinda wish they made that so much more impactful.
